AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods completed four rounds at the Masters, leaving Augusta National after “a good week,” but not before providing a brief update about ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudis Public Investment Fund that owns LIV Golf.

Tiger Woods finishes last, gives Masters update on PGA Tour-LIV Golf negotiations Back to video

Woods met with governor of PIF Yasir al-Rumayyan last month in the Bahamas. On Sunday, he shed some light on the meeting.

“I don’t know if we’re closer, but certainly we’re headed in the right direction,” Woods said. “That was a very positive meeting, and I think both sides came away from the meeting feeling positive.”

The two sides of golf’s battle for the future of the game have been in negotiations since shocking the golf world by announcing a framework deal to work together with the goal of bringing all the best players back under one entity.

This week’s Masters is the first time the game’s top players have competed against one another since the Open Championship last July in England. LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau led the Masters at times this week and began Sunday’s final round in fifth position, trailling World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by four.

Woods hadn’t completed an official tournament in more than a year, and despite finishing at 16-over par and in last place among players who made the cut, he saw some positives in his game.

“It was a good week. It was a good week all around,” he said. “I think that coming in here, not having played a full tournament in a very long time, it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately yesterday it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to.”

Woods set a Masters record on Friday by making 24 consecutive cuts at the storied tournament.
