We simulated Newcastle vs Tottenham to predict huge Premier League clash

Tottenham travel to Newcastle on Saturday as Spurs look to continue their hunt for a Premier League top-four spot

Tottenham can go three points clear in fourth place later today with a win away to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

After Aston Villa's 3-3 draw with Brentford, Spurs overtook the West Midlands side into fourth place on goal difference following the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend. Spurs still have a game in hand over Villa, and with Ange Postecoglou's side involved in the early kick-off, it means they can take an advantage over their top-four rivals before they clash with Arsenal tomorrow.

Next up for Spurs is a tough trip to Newcastle, with the Magpies having lost just three times at home all season. The last meeting between the two saw Postecoglou's side win 4-1, though the clash at St. James' Park last season ended 6-1 to Newcastle, a result that Spurs fans won't want to be thinking about ahead of kick-off.

We simulated Newcastle United vs Spurs to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 24 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Newcastle could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Anderson; Barnes, Isak, Gordon.

We predict that Spurs could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Son, Werner.

Spurs started on the front foot at St. James' Park, and they almost went ahead in the third minute when Heung-Min Son picked out the run of Timo Werner, but the German sent his shot the wrong side of the far post. The pressure continued from Postecoglou's side, and in the 23rd minute, they took the lead.

Rodrigo Bentancur made it 1-0 to Spurs

Some nice footwork from Rodrigo Bentancur saw the midfielder push through the Newcastle midfield with ease before firing a pass out to Brennan Johnson on the right. The winger beat his man before lifting a cross into the box, and unmarked, Bentancur met the ball with a powerful header to put his side one goal ahead.

The visitors then grabbed a second just before the break, this time Bentancur the provider as his flicked pass to Son inside the box was slotted into the far corner from close range. Newcastle had barely threatened the Spurs goal all game, and just 10 minutes after the restart, Spurs scored another.

Heung-Min Son made it 3-0 to Spurs

James Maddison fizzed a pass into the feet of Werner who picked up the ball with his back to goal, and a clever backheel from the German picked out Son on the overlap. The striker surged through on goal before opening his body up to shoot, and he fooled the 'keeper by firing the ball in at the near post instead to make it 3-0.

Newcastle almost pulled a goal back in the 88th minute when Alexander Isak beat the high line to go one-on-one with Guglielmo Vicario, but the 'keeper was alert enough to make a top save and preserve his side's clean sheet in a big win on the road.

EA FC 24 predicted final score: Newcastle 0-3 Tottenham

Newcastle vs Tottenham: Prediction, kick-off time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h results, odds today

Tottenham travel to Newcastle in the Premier League this lunchtime as both teams look to keep their quests for European qualification on track.

Spurs are now in the driving seat in the race for the top four, as much as Ange Postecoglou claims he does not care for constant analysis of it.

CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW NEWCASTLE VS TOTTENHAM LIVE!

Sunday night’s win over Nottingham Forest keeps them ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference but, crucially, Spurs also boast a game in hand.

Fifth place may still be enough to qualify for the Champions League but Postecoglou will be keen to ensure his team are not relying on a co-efficient they can do little about.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have been in good form since returning from the international break. While Eddie Howe’s side are not totally convincing, their win over Fulham on Saturday made it two victories from three as they look to make the Europa League.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Newcastle vs Tottenham is scheduled for a 12.30pm BST kick-off time today, Saturday, April 13, 2024.

St James’ Park in Newcastle will host.

Newcastle to use groundbreaking shirts which allow deaf fans to feel stadium atmosphere

Haptic technology transforms noise of the stadium into real-time touch sensation and will be debuted at Spurs game on Saturday

Newcastle's new groundbreaking haptic shirt

Newcastle United are introducing groundbreaking haptic shirts that will allow deaf fans and those with hearing loss to experience the atmosphere at St James’ Park for the first time at a live match.

The haptic technology transforms the noise of the stadium into real-time touch sensation and will be debuted at the Tottenham game on Saturday. Fans and the matchday mascots, who are deaf or have hearing loss, will be wearing the shirts in the stands.

The idea comes from the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor Sela, a Saudi Arabian events company. Sela is paying around £25 million a year to the club, which is majority owned by the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund.

As part of its ‘Unsilence the Crowd’’ campaign, Sela has donated its player shirt and pitch-side branding to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) during this weekend’s Premier League clash at St James’ Park. They will also be making a cash donation to the charity.

The idea is to improve fan accessibility to football through the new technology, as well as showcase the work done by the RNID.

“One in five adults in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss,” explained Teri Devine, Director for Inclusion at the RNID. “But people often face barriers in everyday life – including in live sports events.

“It’s fantastic to see Sela and Newcastle United leading the way in championing this technology which has the potential to have a real and lasting impact on how people who are deaf and have hearing loss experience live sports.”

“We’re excited to be part of this collaboration and we hope this exposure opens up conversations amongst football fans about hearing loss and encourages other football clubs to raise their game and make sure deaf fans are fully included.”

There has been criticism of Newcastle United’s ownership, with accusations of sportswashing levelled at the takeover back in October 2021.

Sela were brought in as shirt sponsors at the start of this season, with Newcastle having to prove the deal represented fair market value to satisfy Premier League rules on related party sponsorship because of the link up with another Saudi Arabian company.

Some will react with similar cynicism to this initiative, although it is potentially game-changing for thousands of fans who cannot usually hear the action at live games.

“St. James’ Park is renowned for its noise and passion,” said Ibrahim Mohtaseb, senior vice-president of Sela. “Through this initiative we hope to enable deaf fans and fans with hearing loss to feel a part of this.

“We would welcome the whole football family to join us by adopting the technology. By acting now, we can collectively make watching live football matches an incredible experience for everyone who loves the game.”

The initiative has been warmly embraced by the Newcastle hierarchy, and chief commercial officer Peter Silverstone added: “Newcastle United’s partnership with Sela continues to provide spectacular experiences for our fans.

“When Sela shared the idea and technology behind the haptic shirts, we supported the concept immediately. We knew it would have a profound and lasting impact on supporters who are deaf or have hearing loss.

“The atmosphere our supporters generate at St. James’ Park is famously powerful and being able to bring that experience to life in such an accessible way, is very special. We look forward to playing our part in this initiative and hope it inspires fans of other clubs, sports and entertainment properties.”

London Marathon alternatives: Where to run if you didn't land a spot in 2024

T his year, the London Marathon is bigger and better than ever. Runners are vying to make and break records during the race, including one man dressed as a giant poo emoji who is raising awareness of Crohn's disease.

London Marathon Events (LME) also revealed last year that it was introducing carbon dioxide (CO2) removal initiatives in an effort to achieve net zero by 2030. It'll be funded by a £26 ‘climate levy’ introduced for international runners.

The London Marathon has been awarded gold certification status by the Council for Responsible Sport following assessments of its planning, communications, and community access.

The results of the ballot were already emailed to everyone who entered, and those who put their name forward will now have found out if they were successful. Entrants should have paid the entry fee before the start of August last year.

But if you didn't get a place in the London Marathon ? Fear not. Here are some alternatives.

Newcastle-Gateshead Marathon

Taking place on Sunday, May 5, a brand new marathon is coming to the north-east. As you run, you'll see the famous landmarks of Gateshead including Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Sage Gateshead, Baltic, Tyne Bridge, and Swing Bridge – and you'll end the marathon in the iconic Gateshead International Stadium. And it's not too late to book your spot.

Find out more here .

Helsinki City Marathon

If you fancy getting outside of the UK to get your fitness fix, look no further. This marathon, taking place on Saturday, May 11 is in Helsinki , Finland. It's the largest running event in Finland, attracting 15,000 runners from over 80 nations and combining five running distances in one day. Why not use this as an opportunity to explore another country?

The Yorkshire Marathon

You'll be running through the beautiful city of York , taking in historic sights and along scenic country lanes, making it an attractive prospect for runners of all abilities.

The London Marathon 2024 will weave through the streets of the capital from Greenwich to Westminster on Sunday 21 April, and thousands of spectators are going to be lining the route for a glimpse of their running friends.

Over 50,000 people are expected to take on the mammoth two-foot tour of London landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Cutty Sark and Tower Bridge.

Since the inaugural 26.2 mile event in 1981, the fundraising race has raised millions for charities each year, and, with sunshine on the forecast for now, celebrations of the charitable and physical feat will take place across the city.

Here’s everything you need to know to plan the day if you’re running  or  supporting this year’s London Marathon.

London Marathon 2024 start time and date

  • The best luxury hotels in London for a stylish city break
  • The best spa hotels in London for pampering and indulgence
  • Best boutique hotels in London 2022

The London Marathon 2024 will take place on Sunday 21 April.

Exact timings for this year’s races are yet to be confirmed but staggered start times from around 8.30am are the norm, with the masses setting off in waves at 10am and all start lines closed from 11.30am.

The finish line on The Mall closes at 7.30pm and is then moved to St James’ Park until midnight.

London Marathon route

Largely unchanged since 1981, the start line for the race is in Blackheath at the top of Greenwich Park .

From here, a leg to Woolwich, jog past the Cutty Sark and stretch around Bermondsey takes runners to cross the river over Tower Bridge .

After a ring around the Isle of Dogs, it’s a relatively straight stretch along the Thames through the City of London to the Westminster finish line on The Mall.

Will there be train and tube strikes?

There is a planned overtime ban for Aslef members working for LNER on Friday 19 and Sunday 21 April (marathon day), as well as strikes on Saturday 20 April, so those travelling into London from the northeast will likely face cancellations.

Substantial road closures across the capital to make way for the race mean spectators should travel on foot or by tube – roads will reopen as and when all runners have cleared the area.

Marathon participants will receive free travel home up to 6.30pm on marathon day on the London Underground and Overground, buses and DLR.

TfL said that a modified DLR service will start at 5.30am from Tower Gateway to Lewisham so runners arrive on time to the start line.

Rail services out of London to the midlands and the northwest are also expected to be extremely busy from 6pm due to an FA Cup semi-final taking place at Wembley Stadium.

The best spots to watch the London Marathon in person

If the live BBC coverage won’t cut it and you’re coming to support from the sidelines, spectators can watch along most parts of the route, including The Highway in Wapping, where runners will pass twice.

To be in the heart of the action, the halfway point of Tower Bridge at mile 13, and the finish line at The Mall are bound to be exciting but busy. For a quieter spot to cheer, stay east and line up in Deptford or the Isle of Dogs.

Track friends and family taking part using their marathon number on the TCS London Marathon app to best position yourself to catch them on the go.

Marathon organisers advise that some areas, including those by the Cutty Sark and St James’ Park, are likely to be very busy on the day.

Five accessible viewing areas also dot the course for those with disabilities: in Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf, Rainbow Row, Tower Hill and Victoria Embankment.

Where to celebrate along the route

London has plenty of pubs and bars to quench the post-marathon thirst, whether you’ve been running or cheering.

In Greenwich, The Gipsy Moth has Cutty Sark views, The Angel in Bermondsey sits on the Thames and halfway pub, the Tower Bridge Arms, raises pints of IPA to passers-by.

Wet your palette in Wapping’s local Turner’s Old Star, ride the high at Pergola on the Wharf for city views, or refuel at Hung, Drawn & Quartered in Tower Hill with pies and ales.

At Victoria Embankment, board pub boat Tattershall Castle to cheer runners on for the final mile and savour a cold one at The Westminster Arms just before the finish line.

Once the race has been run, Inn the Park restaurant in St James’ Park is ideal for a light bite or head into Mercato Mayfair for a street food party in a restored church.

How to sign up for the London Marathon 2025

After a  record number of entries  signed up for the 26.2-mile race in 2024 – 578,374 applicants according to event organisers – next year’s London Marathon is bound to be another popular event.

To take on the challenge, entry is available through a ballot, international tour operators, charity spaces and athletics clubs.

The public ballot for the 2025 TCS London Marathon will open on Saturday 20 April and close the following Friday (26 April). Winners will be drawn at random and emailed in July ahead of the 27 April 2025 marathon.
