Lord Huron announce three Australian shows for next summer
- X (formerly Twitter)
Experience an evening of dusty Americana, folk rock, and spaghetti western guitars with Lord Huron .
The last time the US group were in Australia was 2018, but they're returning early summer for a run of shows on the East Coast.
Arriving January 2024, Lord Huron headline venues in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, bringing their vintage-spirited brand of storytelling and four-album strong discography with them.
Named for one of Michigan's Great Lakes, where frontman Ben Scheider spent much of his childhood, Lord Huron have been releasing a steady stream of music since 2010.
Since their last visit Down Under, Schneider has released his score for 2023 film The Starling Girl (starring Australian actress Eliza Scanlen), which included the Lord Huron feature ' Ace Up My Sleeve ', and 2021's Long Lost , a Double J Feature Album that toyed with time and nostalgia.
A concept album centered around a fictional band lost in time and the ghosts that haunt Whispering Pines – the real-life studio/HQ of Lord Huron – Long Lost was rich in tales of heroes and villains, love and loss, and emblematic of the classic themes that have drawn a global fanbase to the group's songcraft.
In a compelling contrast to their love and celebration of old-timey art forms, Lord Huron are huge on streaming services. Songs like 'Ends of The Earth', 'Not Dead Yet', and 'Meet Me In The Woods' cracking a combined 292 million plays.
But that's nothing compared to 'The Night We Met', with its whopping 1.6 billion combined Spotify streams.
Australian fans will get to soak it all up when the band arrives early summer.
Tickets are available Friday 1 September, 9am AEST, and a pre-sale kicks off 31 August. Find more info at the Destroy All Lines website .

Lord Huron Announces 2024 Australian Headline Shows
By Jules LeFevre
Lord Huron will be heading back to Australia for a run of headline dates in January 2024. The band will play three shows on the country’s east coast, first in Brisbane on Wednesday, 24th January, and then Sydney and Melbourne.
The dates mark the band’s first trip to Australia since 2018, when they were here for Splendour in the Grass and a fistful of headline sideshows in support of their album Vide Noir. They’ve released a new album since then, 2021’s Long Lost .
Lord Huron: ‘Mine Forever’
Long Lost, which was widely acclaimed by critics, is a concept album revolving around a fictional band lost in time, and ghosts that haunt a studio. The studio was based on the band’s own, Whispering Pines.
“It’s like our clubhouse,” frontman Ben Schneider told Atwood Magazine about the space . “It’s a very haunted feel, it’s very stuck in a time warp. The decor is all the original stuff from the ’70s, and we had to replace a lot of the electronics and equipment, but it has this very haunted, trapped-in-time feel.
“So, we’ve invented characters that we imagine haunting it, or people who have passed through in the past, and writing from their perspective became the concept of the album.”

Australian Tour July 2018
Handsome Tours is proud to announce Lord Huron will perform in Sydney and Melbourne , with support from Carla Geneve this July. The LA based band will return to Australia to headline the Factory Theatre in Sydney on Sunday, July 15 and at Melbourne Recital Centre on Wednesday, July 18, before heading to Byron Bay for a special performance at Splendour in The Grass .
Lord Huron was last in Australia for Bluesfest in 2016, and a sold out run of headline dates to support the release of their break out album Strange Trails (2015) which included the hit single ‘ The Night We Met ‘ as feature in the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why .
Joining Lord Huron for main support at both Sydney and Melbourne shows is 19-year-old Albany-born singer-songwriter Carla Geneve, who 2017 bursting through the WA scene with her unique brand of brutally honest indie/folk and captivating live show, which saw Carla named as Pilerats’ One To Watch in 2018, triple j Unearthed feature artist, winning the inaugural Mojo Rising Band Competition, and taking out the Best Regional Act at the WAM Award.
New record Vide Noir was written and recorded over the past two years at Lord Huron’s Los Angeles studio and informal clubhouse, Whispering Pines, and was mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips / MGMT). In conjunction with the album announcement, the band released ‘Ancient Names (Part I)’ and ‘Ancient Names (Part II)’, which received critical praise from NPR Music and SPIN who called them, “an eerie, unresolved tale of a crystal ball vision that amplifies the band’s characteristic thematic darkness into distorted garage rock.”

Live Review: Lord Huron @ The Tivoli, Brisbane
“There’s gonna be ups and downs and twists and turns, high fives, pats on the back… pats on the butt…”
Lord Huron (Supplied)
Quarter to eight on the dot and the lights vanished, plunging the world into a cold and abrupt darkness that was only alleviated by the sudden presence of Brisbane’s own Asha Jefferies and her partner in crime Jo Davie. It’s not difficult to appreciate the intimacy of a stripped-back set when greeted with a vocal tone as pure and clear as Jefferies’s. Though her guitar was right there, it certainly adopted a secondary role as it gradually became more evident that the instrument of her voice was the most mesmerising; she could’ve walked out there on her own with nothing and delivered an entirely acapella performance. And it would’ve been just as powerful.
In anticipation of the upcoming April release of her debut album Ego Ride, Jefferies played an unreleased song that while remains reminiscent of her other indie-pop singles, was simultaneously able to tap into a rich and inventive new style that is distinctively hers. If the flashlights swaying across the room were indicative of anything, it’s that she walked off that stage with 1,500 new fans.
With a discography as impressive as Lord Huron ’s, attempting to imagine which song of theirs would be the perfect soaring opener was virtually impossible since, well, you could play Russian roulette with Spotify shuffle and be guaranteed an anthem for the ages. In this case the band opted for Love Like Ghosts, the first track off their 2015 album Strange Trails. The lights changed from stock-venue-standard to a bright alien green, and six figures materialised on stage.
A rather similar chord progression in the album’s eighth track Meet Me In The Woods made for a seamless transition, except unlike Ghosts it stays in that lower, deep pocket of notes which orchestrates a siren call, a plea if you will, from the band who are calling out from the lichen asking you to meet them in those woods and damn it if we weren’t trying. It was only the second song and already people were moving as if they’d been drawn into one of the faerie revels from Celtic folklore where one dances endlessly and for eternity. Out of all their albums, there’s something mystical and uncanny about Strange Trails in a way that is as uplifting as it is unnerving. Listen through from track one to fourteen and afterward try to convince yourself there’s no such thing as magic, with ‘try’ being the operative word.
Mine Forever , the second record from their 2021 album Long Lost , introduced the classical blend of ethereal, dreamy melody and country blues that is intrinsic to the Huron soundscape. In a suit not dissimilar to the one in the cover art of this album, frontman Ben Schneider ceased dancing long enough to greet everyone with a charming smile and some recording trivia.

“It’s our first time in Brisbane, and I’ve gotta say we came into this whole situation with a lot of preordained love for this city. A very special guy who engineers all our records is from here, and he’s been telling us all about it…actually he won’t shut up about it.” Everyone laughed. Hard. Probably too hard for him to fully grasp the reasoning. Brisbane? The last people you’re going to convince that Brisbane is magical are the people from Brisbane. Nevertheless, he persevered. “But! Finally we’re here and we can’t tell you how good it feels to have this many people here. I won’t talk too much, but I just like to say hello ya know, sorry it took so long we were kinda feeling it.” He then broke into an Elvis impersonation so brilliant it would send Austin Butler crying off the red carpet. “Now what we’re going to try and do for you tonight is take you on a musical journey… there’s gonna be ups and downs and twists and turns, high fives, pats on the back… pats on the butt… laughs, tears, all that stuff. So if you find yourself saying this isn’t for me, well just wait a couple of songs.” Schneider resurfaced again. “If you came to be happy, we got ya! If you came to dance, we got ya… a little I think. If you came to be depressed well…” Everyone laughed again. “Anyway that’s all I got for now, we’ll check in on you later!”
The World Ender saw Schneider don a skull mask and wide-brim hat – a truly gothic western illustration that was as visceral as it was entertaining. A skeleton reaching from the depths of the desert out of its yawning grave. Speaking of it, Yawning Grave was arguably one of the most powerful songs of the entire night because Miguel Briseño decided to show everyone just how talented he was at playing the theremin. He plucked long, drawn-out notes from thin air (literally) and wove a yearning, dark melody into the night that was nothing short of haunting.
Schneider popped up again: “Hopefully we’ll be back sooner because right now we’re on a five year kinda plan… which is a little too long we miss you we miss Australia! Tonight there’s a band called NOFX playing, and I was walking around here the other day and I saw the lead singer of that band. So once we’re done here, I might see if I can jump over there and relive my punk rock days.”
Never had so many people opened their phones to Ticketek that quickly in unison. Fortitude Music Hall was about to have a whole other concert at their doors.

I didn't much care for the venue, Sokol Auditorium. The group was in great form a lot of energy and sounded as good live as they do in the studio. I will certainly attend any concerts they have in the area. The audience was very enthusiastic ( rightly so !) I have recommended to my daughter that she attend one of the upcoming shows in Denver . I attended the show alone and was a little wary being in a General Admission audience following fairly recent major back surgery, not a problem though people were extremely courteous. I hope they might consider The Rococo Theatre in Lincoln for their future shows in Nebraska .

Underwhelming and Generic.
Probably the most disappointing performance that I’ve seen in years. The band, who chose to remain nameless throughout the show, treated the audience in an equally disinterested manner. Yes, any band can say, “It’s great to be here in _______”; but a cliche is better than nothing. Really good performers make that interaction unique (e.g. John Flansburg’s comments during They Might Be Giants’ performance on Friday night or come to think of it, just about any band you hear at a local bar). Also, really good musicians usually use live performances to showcase their abilities with their instruments; but except for a very brief drum show at the end of the normal set and perhaps the unnamed guy who played the Theremin, none of the performers broke script and gave us something we don’t already have on the albums.
The canned nature of the performance was so profound that by the final song I was beginning to wonder if L.H. was pulling an E.L.O. on the audience. Did anyone else think that Ben's strikes on the drum during the final song were just a bit off from the actual rhythm?
To be clear, I still like their music; but unless they up their game considerably, you should just skip the show and listen to their albums at home.
Upgraded the venue instead of playing to a packed audience. We were able to relax in comfortable seating and I am thankful for that. Additinally they sent is a full album which is a veteran and classy indication of how well they consider us. The band was polite and enthusiastic, good and fun. I liked every single one of their songs and loved the ones I already knew. Their opening act was Liz Cooper and the Stampede and they rocked, classily then accelerating into a climax of twin guitars and well timed percussion.
I will recommend Lord Huron to anyone who asks and try to describe our great 2 year anniversary date celebration experience.
