Movie lovers, a new TCM Classic Films Tour is rolling at the Warner Bros. Studio backlot

Call it a fresh way to time travel: the lot look-around will include deep peeks at the golden age of hollywood., by alysia gray painter • published april 19, 2024 • updated on april 19, 2024 at 5:13 pm, what to know.

  • TCM Classic Films Tour at Warner Bros. Studio
  • The new tour celebrates the 30th anniversary of Turner Classic Movies with lot stops spotlighting treasures of Hollywood's Golden Age
  • Tickets start at $95; find yours on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood site

Time travel machines, at least in the movies, often boast blinking knobs and glowing wheels and the truth is this: You're never sure where they'll take you, once they're off and flying.

But what if you could board an open-air vehicle that also services as a time-traveling device, the sort of airy auto that takes you to stops and spots where some of Tinseltown's titans once worked, created, dreamed, and occasionally lived?

Such a wondrous mode of transportation exists, and you won't need to pass through a silver screen to reach it: It's located at Warner Bros. Studio, where the brand-new TCM Classic Films Tour is now on the movie-loving move.

Get Southern California news, weather forecasts and entertainment stories to your inbox. Sign up for NBC LA newsletters.

The tour was unveiled just ahead of the TCM Classic Film Festival , which is shimmering in Hollywood through April 21.

Launched to honor the 30th anniversary of Turner Classic Movies, the tour is putting "a focus on the studio's early days, delving into the timeless allure of classic cinema and feeling the magic of Hollywood’s rich history firsthand."

Television will also receive its due, as well as the many films that famously found their first footing at the Burbank studio.

The Eastwood Scoring Stage, which will celebrate its centennial in just five years, is on the tour, as is a look at the exterior of an apartment that James Dean once lived in, a nearby abode he could retreat to while putting in the hours on a film shoot.

And a rose garden isn't just about the flowers but also love, in the tennis sense: A court once stood there, and none other than Jack Warner, one of the studio's founders, enjoyed some time at the net.

The Property House — the name reveals the structure's purpose — will also be visited, and prop mavens will get to check out artifacts seen in some of the cinema and television's best-known works.

"For 100 years, Warner Bros. has stood for the very best in moviemaking and TCM has continued to spotlight the legacy of the studio with incredible program offerings throughout its 30 years," shared Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

"We are thrilled movie lovers from around the world can visit the iconic Burbank lot to experience the TCM Classic Films Tour and celebrate the rich history of the studio's contributions to cinema."

The tour begins with a welcome video from the TCM hosts; look also for historical snapshots, iconic costumes — including outfits seen in "The Music Man," a beloved musical that is synonymous with the lot's charming Midwest Street — and other treats for those who regularly revisit some of the starriest cinematic offerings of the past.

Tickets start at $95 and are available on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour site.

Ellen DeGeneres riffs on getting ‘kicked out’ of showbiz after toxic-culture allegations

For Ellen DeGeneres, toxic-workplace allegations that clouded her long-running daytime series marked the end of an era. This week, the comedian’s public fallout became comeback material.

Two years after “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” aired its final episode in 2022, its 66-year-old host re-entered the spotlight with a Thursday night set at Largo at the Coronet Theatre. During her set, the first on her Ellen’s Last Stand … Up Tour, DeGeneres joked to her audience, “I got kicked out of show business,” according to Rolling Stone.

“There’s no mean people in show business,” she said sarcastically.

How Ellen DeGeneres won, and then lost, a generation of viewers

Battered by scandal, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” ends its 19-year run on Thursday. Its host is no longer the queer celebrity we can all agree on.

May 20, 2022

Multiple outlets reported that DeGeneres’ set revolved heavily around the controversy that colored the final year of her Daytime Emmy-winning show and soured the public’s perception of the “Finding Nemo” comedian. In July 2020, an investigation by BuzzFeed News detailed allegations of intimidation and racism on the long-running show that challenged its host’s “Be kind” mantra. A second report detailed instances of alleged sexual misconduct involving the show’s three top producers.

The fallout resulted in the departure of three members of the show’s production team and the announcement that DeGeneres would end her show in 2022 , after 19 seasons’ worth of memorable celebrity guest interviews, pranks and dance breaks.

DeGeneres reportedly lamented how she became the “most hated person in America” after the allegations dropped, People reported. She also acknowledged that she “didn’t know how to be a boss,” especially one for a production as large and popular as her talk show, Rolling Stone said.

Ellen DeGeneres has left the building: ‘When we started the show, I couldn’t say “gay”’

Jennifer Aniston, Pink and Billie Eilish were the final guests on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ which ended Thursday after 19 seasons.

May 26, 2022

DeGeneres is no stranger to causing a stir in the daytime talk TV space. She reportedly reminded audience members Thursday about how her career suffered after she came out as lesbian in a 1997 episode of the sitcom “Ellen.”

“This is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business,” DeGeneres said. “Eventually they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old and gay.”

Despite cracking jokes about her most recent fall from grace, DeGeneres said “it’s been such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem,” before criticizing the “extremes in this business” of being either idolized or hated. DeGeneres also contemplated who she is without her show and expressed gratitude for wife Portia de Rossi’s ongoing support, Rolling Stone reported.

DeGeneres concluded her evening at the Largo answering questions from her audience. One fan reportedly asked how her 2022 scandal compared to the 1997 backlash, and DeGeneres responded, “It was so hurtful.”

Ellen DeGeneres called up her celebrity friends while in quarantine this week, telling John Legend and Chrissy Teigen how bored she is.

Warner Bros. examines complaints of toxic culture on ‘Ellen’ TV show

After several reports of a toxic working environment on the set of the comedian’s show, distributor Warner Bros. has brought in consultants to examine the claims.

July 27, 2020

She added: “I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”

DeGeneres returns to Largo on Friday and will perform several other shows at the West Hollywood venue through early June. In the summer, she will take her comedy to San Diego, Portland, Ore., and Santa Rosa, among other cities. More information about her Last Stand …Up Tour can be found on her website .
