2009 G COLLECTION RED LABEL

To mark our 20th year of winemaking, we decided to expand our traditional blends. This fine wine is a result of combining grapes from our Malibu Hills Vineyard with other equally outstanding grapes from California vineyards.

Red Label is 95% Merlot and 5% Grenache

It is my pleasure to present to you our exciting new blends. Enjoy in good health!

Regular Price: $62

Wine Club Price: $49.60

This wine is available for purchase at our tasting room or you can email [email protected] to place an order for delivery to your home or office.

2020 CHARDONNAY

Subtle oak. Barrel fermented. 9 months in 30% new French oak and 70% neutral oak. A dry Chardonnay with no malolactic fermentation – a French style Chardonnay, not the typical California “buttery” style Chardonnay. Crisp acidity with warm oak characteristics. Our barrel fermented Chardonnay instead goes through oxidative aging.

Notes: Honey and pear on the nose, vanilla, toast, and cedarwood on the pallet. Structured acid balances out with nuances of oak. Becomes nuttier as it ages

Glass: $17.60

Regular Price: $53

Wine Club Price: $46

G COLLECTION RED LABEL

Regular Price: $68.50

Wine Club Price: $54.80

G COLLECTION

Copper label.

To mark our 20th year of winemaking, we decided to expand our traditional blends. This fine wine is a result of combining grapes from our Malibu Hills Vineyard with other equally outstanding grapes from California vineyards. Copper Label is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah.

This is a complex and balanced wine softened by aging. Dried cherries, fig, and prune on the nose followed by cherry juice and violet. Allow this wine time to breathe after opening, and you’ll experience a dynamic play between soft rich cherry and a robust oak texture.

Regular Price: $75.50

Wine Club Price: $60.40

2016 Block M (100% Cab)

Single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Malibu’s Newton Canyon. Limited production from our marquee block. Aged in French oak. Older vintages will take on a dried fruit and leather aroma. By producing a wine from a single vineyard, you get a pure and authentic representation of the microclimate.

Notes: Hazelnut on the nose. A silky texture with soft tannins. Warm vanilla & dried berries.

Regular Price: $105

Wine Club Price: $85

ROSENTHAL MERLOT

A California classic – Merlot grows in places with ample sunshine. The cool ocean breeze allows for canopy cooling and a dynamic acid structure. The result is a soft textural red wine.

Notes: Woody sugar plum and cherry on the nose. Soft medium tannin and balanced acid. Blueberry and earthy notes brought together by smooth oak.

Regular Price: $57

Wine Club Price: $45.60

2017 Cabernet Franc

The parent varietal of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromatic and powerful. Fruit forward and savory.

Notes: Cedar and blackberry on the nose/ Black cherry and delicate chili pepper. Soft minerality on the palette.

Regular Price: $63

Wine Club Price: $50.40

2017 Petit Verdot

One of the 5 great Bordeaux varietals. Ours is 100% Petit Verdot. This vineyard is planted at the highest elevation on our estate, which is extremely steep and hard to farm. Deep inky purple in color with great aromas of toasty oak and violet. Finishes with lush tannins.

Notes: Currants and blackberries on the nose, and a spicy finish with hints of sage and mint. Beautifully silky and rich.

Bottle: $63

Club Price: $50.40

NV SURFRIDER

2018 mourvedre (chilled red).

Often used as a blending grape. Originates from Spain and France. Substantial acidic foundation with full flavor of dark berry. Sometimes described as meaty or gamey.

Notes: Berry on the nose, Soft mid palette. Dark chocolate and cooked red fruit come through on the end. Essence of light wood shavings.

Bottle: $55

Club price: $44.

malibu wine and food tour

2014 Toscana Italian Red

The first and only wine in our portfolio made outside of California. A red blend of mainly Sangiovese and Merlot, made in the Tuscany region. Smooth, bold, and dry. Deep ruby red in color.

Notes: Bright tart cherry, with aromatic herb notes on the palette. Lingonberry and subtle cinnamon with soft acidity.

Glass: $16.50

Bottle: $49, club price: $39.20, 2019 pinot noir.

The most predominate red varietal in Burgundy. With smooth spice and subtle fruit, this wine is the perfect example of a light bodied red. Silky subtle oak.

Notes: Elegant notes of Strawberry jam and cherry cola with a hint of cinnamon on the nose.

2019 Reserve Pinot Noir

Medium bodied Pinot. More rich and fuller bodied than what is typical in a traditional Pinot Noir. Low tannin. We get a bolder, more concentrated wine by using the “saignee” method, which encompasses ‘bleeding’ off liquid from a tank of juice for red wine in the early stages of the winemaking process. This can help to produce more concentrated flavor and color in red wine. This is from the Sta. Rita Hills region of Santa Barbara County – a very exclusive region producing some of the best Pinot Noir grapes.

Notes: Velvety smooth on the pallet. Rich dark cherry, and smooth leather on the palette. Juicy and vibrant.

2018 Opening Scene

Stainless steel aged Chardonnay. Falls in the neutral category – between dry and sweet. The Opening Scene is a low sugar, low carb, and low alcohol wine coming in at .1% residual sugar, and 9% alcohol. Perfect for a hot summer day.

Notes: Delicate floral aromas, and a bright low acid finish.

Bottle: $50

Club price: $40, 2019 gruner vetliner.

An Austrian grape that benefits from close proximity to the ocean. Similar to a dry and crisp Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. There are very limited amounts of Gruner Vetliner vines available in California. This one is from the Central Coast region – Edna Valley area.

Notes: A spicy, crisp overlay to ripe citrus, apple, stone fruit, and a solid and crisp minerality. A slight background of white pepper. Candied lime on the nose.

2019 Orange Muscat

A medium sweet wine popular in California and Australia. This wine maintains a richer, more fruit forward profile with lower acid. It can be a dessert wine or paired with food.

Notes: Beautiful notes of sweet honey and orange blossom.

2018 Hang Ten Rose (Grenache)

A rose made similarly to those made in the South of France. Lighter in body, on the dryer side, and maintains Provencal Characteristics. Well balanced and fruit forward but keeps a zesty acid for a dry finish. Made from Grenache grapes.

Notes: Subtle profile of strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry balanced with minerality and asvory notes of herbs de Provence

Bottle: $51

Club price: $40.80, nv sparkling rose.

This refreshing treat is the perfect wine for celebrations. The rose color of this sparkling wine gives the pop of surprise and delight in every glass!

Notes: Not too dry or sweet, this delightful sparkler features notes of strawberries and violets with a light toasty finish.

Bottle: $54

Club price: $43.20.

Our first venture into the world of unfiltered natural wine! “Pet Nat” is short for the French term “pétillant naturel”, which roughly translates to “natural sparkling”.

Unlike the Champagne method, the “méthode ancestral” used here allows the initial fermentation to finish in the bottle without any additives (sugar, yeast, sulfer, etc.), imparting a gentle carbonation by trapping the CO2.

A healthy amount of sediment will be found in each bottle, making this a hazy wine with plenty of complex flavors and aromas!

Our Pet Net explodes on the palette with bright acidity and soft aromas of pink lemonade. Apple and pear notes lead to a soft puckering finish reminiscent of a sour ale.

Top Wine Tasting Experiences in Malibu for 2024

For Winetravelers keen on wine and waves, Malibu is the place to go. What’s more, you’ll have opportunities for celebrity spotting, surfing, beachcombing, hiking, cycling, yoga, and of course wine tasting.

Malibu Wine Hotels

Classic vw bus malibu wine tour or 4×4 vineyard tour, malibu rocky oaks estate vineyards, malibu farm pier cafe, malibu wine tasting travel guide.

If you’re picturing vineyards and wineries along the beach, you’re in for a surprise. Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains between the Pacific Ocean and the Mulholland Highway lies the Malibu Coast AVA. This 46 miles long and eight miles wide terrain rises to above 3000 feet and is home to 198 acres of vineyards and 52 vignerons. While the Woolsey Fire burned many of Malibu’s vineyards, this is still a robust and beautiful wine touring area.

The Malibu Coast was granted AVA status in 2014, but wine grapes have grown in the area since 1824. Interestingly enough, before Prohibition, Los Angeles County was California’s largest wine producer. The first contemporary vineyard was planted in 1985 by restaurateur Michael McCarty, under one of California’s most respected wine professionals, Dick Graff of Monterey’s Chalone Vineyard.

Where to go wine tasting in Malibu California

Fun Fact: Much of the Malibu AVA sits on highly coveted red lava soil formations. This is similar to deposits on the Sonoma Coast, making the soils of the two regions nearly identical.

Only recently has Los Angeles County permitted the combination of vineyards and wineries, so “at the vineyard” tasting rooms are relatively few. Compared to larger California wine regions like Napa or even Santa Ynez, you can’t really bike from one winery to another or walk through the front door of a Malibu winery’ tasting room.

In fact, a Malibu winery is not necessarily the best place to sample Malibu wines. Instead of driving to visit the handful that does, head to Cornell Winery & Tasting Room , an Old West-themed wine bar on Mulholland Highway. Although initially planned as a winery, zoning laws couldn’t be changed, so it’s a retail and wine tasting hub featuring almost all wines in the Malibu wine scene. Here you can order Malibu wine tasting flights, wine by the glass, or purchase a bottle of wine to take away. You can also check in to the neighboring Old Place Restaurant next to Cornell, a legendary Malibu restaurant hangout.

As Malibu evolves from celebrity sand and surf local into an A-list wine region, you don’t have to look far for activities to pair with its wines. Hiking, cycling, yoga, al-fresco movie-going, and of course, beachfront wine tasting are all part of Malibu wine country’s one-of-a-kind personality.

Travel Logistics

 • Dunb22m 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Los Angeles Cruiseline. A Hollywood Tour worth taking! This was my first time in Los Angeles and of course I was looking forward to a tour of Hollywood. I was not disappointed! Gavin was the most attentive tour guide I have ever come across. When we first arrived, my husband called him and he directed us exactly where to park and Gavin met us. When we boarded his tour van, we were so glad that we had so much space to relax and kick back. Gavin provided snacks and water for us and we were well on our way on an exciting tour of Hollywood, sunset, and farmers market. My favorite was getting to see some hotspots from famous current TV shows that I watch. I love that we were able to get in so many attractions in such little time. We even were able to take pictures with some of the murals there in LA. Gavin was also open to suggestions of what attractions we wanted to see. We are planning a trip back very soon and for sure, Los Angeles Cruiseline will be our guide. Gavin, thank you for an excellent time! If you’re looking for a Hollywood Tour unlike the cookie cutter ones, this one’s for you! Read more Written May 19, 2022

A few friends and I decided to take the night off from driving and booked a Hollywood Tour with Gavin. I got to tell you, it was really a blast. There are so many things that I never knew about and I'm a local! Gavin had an understanding of the life and culture in Los Angeles that was actually legendary! The music and videos he played were really entertaining. There are ambient lights, and he even had a mini turn-table set up! I'm telling you, legit L.A. local!! And the spots he brought us to were really a lot of fun. Mix all of that with some behind the scenes history of the places we stopped or drove by.. a great experience. Highly recommended! The Best Vineyards In The US For A Vintage Wine-Tasting Vacation

Posted: April 20, 2024 | Last updated: April 20, 2024

The USA is home to more than 11,000 wineries, a number which has more than doubled in the last 11 years. From family-run vineyards which have been going for decades to newcomers offering biodynamic and sustainable blends, there are places for oenophiles (that’s wine-lovers to you and me) of all stripes. We’ve picked out our favorite destinations all over the country, as well as some more unexpected wine-based experiences including spas, 4x4 tours and even hot air balloon rides.

Early Mountain Vineyards, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

One of the hottest emerging wine regions in the country is Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, which owes its great growing conditions to high-elevation vineyards and limestone soil. Located at the foot of the Blue Mountains, Early Mountain Vineyards is a stunning spot to unwind and try some of the area’s delicious wines, which range from French-style Cabernet Franc and Merlot varieties to newer grapes and blends. Pop in for a tasting flight, which features four different wines, or try a 'Best of Virginia' selection to see what makes the local viniculture so special.

Rosé lovers should look no further than Malene in San Luis Obispo, which focuses almost exclusively on pink wines (there's one token red) with differing complexity and depth. Among the delicious options to try here are a classic, Provençal-style wine; a rosé made from old-vine Grenache; and a delicately meaty Mourvèdre. The setting couldn’t be better either: the outdoor bar is housed in a converted Airstream and you can soak up the sunshine at outdoor picnic tables as you sip.

Try either (or both) at its scenic bar, which offers a bargain '8 for $8' tasting experience, accompanied by live music and freshly made flatbread pizzas.

De’Longhi Just Released an Espresso Machine That Has Only 5-Star Reviews—and It’s Under $400

The best part? You can choose between semi-automatic and manual modes.

malibu wine and food tour

As an espresso lover, I occasionally — and begrudgingly — shell out the increasingly and all-too-common $6 for a latte. But that adds up, and coffee shop prices aren’t slowing down any time soon.

I’ve dabbled in a few budget semi-automatic espresso machines over the years, and I love my Technivorm Moccamaster for drip coffee, but I’ve been looking to upgrade my espresso set-up — without the steep price tag that typically comes along with it.

So, when I was offered the opportunity to try out De’Longhi’s new Dedica Maestro Plus , I jumped at the chance. After using it for a few weeks, I can say I would’ve easily spent the $399 if I knew it would be this great.

De’Longhi Dedica Maestro Plus Espresso Machine

The beginner-friendly machine offers a far less intimidating experience for espresso-curious people who want to invest in a quality machine from a known brand like De’Longhi without spending upwards of a thousand dollars. The newly launched machine is priced at $399 and is an upgrade to the brand’s Dedica Arte Pump Maestro Machine . From the moment I unboxed it, its quality was evident, and it was up and running within minutes.

As an apartment dweller, my limited countertop space is prime real estate. The Dedica Maestro Plus is only 8.5 by 13 inches deep, which is actually thinner than my already-compact Nespresso machine . Its sleek chrome exterior looks sharp next to my Moccamaster , and I love that it’s not the main focal point of my kitchen by being overly bulky or deep.

Besides its small footprint, the best thing about this machine is that it offers a semi-automatic and a manual experience, so I can either get really into dialing in my espresso, or just be super lazy with it depending on my mood. The machine heats up quickly (within seconds) and has a powerful 15-bar pressure and a three-holed steam wand. While I’m still dialing in my preferred grind size and amount, each shot has been better than the last, and I found that pre-ground espresso beans still pull a fantastic shot.

To toggle between settings, you simply pull the side lever back and forth. When frothing in manual mode, an ultra-convenient light will indicate when the milk has reached optimal temperature, making it nearly impossible to burn the milk. I’m no barista, and I’ve often struggled with hitting the sweet spot when it comes to reaching the perfect temperature when frothing, but not with this machine.

On weekdays or quick mornings, the automatic mode has been my go-to. Even in this setting, the machine offers a pretty customizable experience that feels indulgent. Depending on whether you use nut milk or dairy milk, you can choose between three different temperatures and foam textures, which is not a luxury I’ve had with previous machines. Oftentimes, standard preset temperatures will burn almond and other non-dairy milk, but I’ve found that a cooler temperature setting really does make a difference when steaming my oat milk.

Despite the machine’s smaller size, the removable 54-ounce water tank holds more water than typical machines of its size (translation: less back and forth trips to the sink!), and it has slits on each side, which provide an ergonomically clever way to make pulling the tank out to fill a bit easier. The wide drip tray comfortably holds the milk pitcher when auto-steaming, and it comes with an espresso lift that is easily perched on top of the drip tray when just pulling shots. This is all to say, the machine is very well designed when it comes to the details.

For first-time espresso machine owners, it comes with everything you need to complete your station, including single and double-wall filter baskets for the portafilter, a tamp, and a coffee scoop for perfect portions. It even comes with a tool to clean the steam wand if the wand holes get clogged and has a small compartment on top to keep the filter baskets in one place. Disassembling it is easy, and most pieces can be thrown in the dishwasher. It also indicates when it’s time to descale .

Of course, no machine is perfect. Some machines I’ve used have typically had a hot water spout, which was convenient for making hot teas or Americanos. It’s also loud when frothing, so be prepared to wake up your household when it’s time to turn it on.

But even with those small downsides, the convenience and quality of the Dedica Maestro Plus make this a great purchase whether you are just starting your espresso journey or are already a seasoned pro.

At the time of publishing, the price was $399.

Our fleet of VW busses are available in fun vintage colors—classic teal, bright sunshine yellow and more. These vehicles are known as the “first van” and were once a symbol of protest and counterculture in the 60s and 70s, often transporting marginalized members of society to rallies and polling stations during times of great political and cultural upheaval.

Then, they became trendy in California because of their usefulness to campers and outdoor enthusiasts, who enjoyed the simple styling and roomy interior that made transporting people and equipment easy.

Now, they have a new purpose– transporting wine lovers at Malibu Wine Tours who are looking to have a fabulous day in Malibu wine county and try some of the most outstanding vintages Malibu has to offer!

Experience Malibu Wineries on our VW bus tour

Embark on a journey with up to five friends or family members, chauffeured through the scenic vistas of Saddlerock Ranch . Begin your day with a stop for delightful wine tasting experiences before venturing into the captivating Malibu Canyon. Here, you’ll explore another remarkable Malibu winery, capturing beachside photos, grooving to fun tunes on the vintage VW bus’s radio, and sharing laughter with our lively and passionate tour guide.

Continuing through the winding Malibu canyons, you’ll arrive at another nearby winery. Here, immerse yourself in guided tastings led by knowledgeable wine experts, with opportunities to acquire additional bottles of your favorites.

To cap off your day, your tour guide will escort you to a picturesque beach overlook for yet another tasting, complemented by delightful chocolates, all against a backdrop of breathtaking views. Afterward, the tour goes out onto the roads to visit other wineries that will have the option to purchase food, tastings, and bottles of wine. These items are not included in the tour price, and all purchases at other wineries go directly to the wineries themselves.

The tour will conclude after some sightseeing around Malibu and stops to take pictures by the beach or other possible overlooks.

Meeting times will be on the hour or the half-hour at the check-in cabin at 32111 Mulholland Hwy, Malibu, CA. The check-in cabin is found down the wooden steps in the parking lot. Tours end either in the parking lot where you first arrived or at a location requested by guests and agreed upon by the tour guide, such as at a nearby restaurant. The tour will end approximately three hours after beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions

The VW Bus Tour will take approximately 3 hours and includes 2-3 stops.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing, closed toed shoes, and bringing a jacket just in case! It is a very windy tour. Also, it gets pretty sunny up in the mountains, so a hat is always a good idea, but make sure it fits tightly so it won’t blow away!

We do not allow guests under 21 on the VW Bus Tour.

No. Additional tastings must be paid directly to the winery. They are not included but are available for purchase upon arrival.

Shopping bag labelled our 'Our favourite shops' bulging with fresh bread, lettuce and pineapple

Welcome to April’s Observer Food Monthly

Enjoy a tour of chefs’ favourite local shops, discover what’s new about the latest generation of wine bars and try Georgina Hayden’s moreish Greekish recipes

“I think of it as a fairyland of deliciousness,” says food writer Bee Wilson, author of The Secret of Cooking , about Culinaris, a Hungarian-owned deli in Cambridge. In this issue, we have asked chefs and cooks to tell us about their favourite local food shops . Not so much their everyday food shops, but where they go for something special, a perfect sourdough loaf or a bunch of Vietnamese greens. They lead us to hand-churned butter in the Tyne Valley, water spinach and chrysanthemum greens in Islington and Chinese aubergines in Glasgow, and tell us where to find smokies in Devon, fabulous croissants in York and a van selling fish fresh from the boats in Derry.

The reinvention of the wine bar was well overdue and is probably one of the best things to happen to eating and drinking in years. New wines, new food, new attitude. Tomé Morrissy-Swan has been watching the phenomenon and brings us up to date with the latest and best openings countrywide.

We have a whole host of recipes for you including an extract from Georgina Hayden’s new book, Greekish . We love her sticky aubergine and pomegranate tart, barbecued sea bass with pistachio and caper pesto and her phenomenal feta and white chocolate baklava cheesecake. The recipes are here and we have an interview with Georgie where she tells us, lovingly, about cooking for her sternest critic.

I have a collection of recipes for you too, for those spring days that turn out a bit chilly towards the end: baked tomatoes with chickpeas and curry leaves; a potato, salmon and spinach pie; pork with apples and cider; and onion soup with cheese toasts. We also have lunch with the globetrotting Simon Reeve, and Esme Young from the The Great British Sewing Bee shares her Life on Plate . And Jay has been researching the what, when and why of food crazes and explains why they are actually nothing new , just perhaps a little more crazy.

A new Wilmington wine bar is coming this fall in the site of a former comedy club

malibu wine and food tour

A new wine bar next to FranksWine shop in Wilmington is planned to open this fall on the site of a former comedy club.

Business/building owners Frank and Colleen Pagliaro say they hope to open Anura Wine Bar in October after renovating the interior and exterior of the space at 1206 N. Union St., near the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue. It had last been the home of the House of Laffs comedy lounge

The comedy club closed in November 2022 when the owner was evicted from the Wilmington building for failing to pay $270,000 in back rent and other fees such as legal, utilities, water and sewage, real estate tax and insurance.

Frank Pagliaro has owned the building that also houses his wine/liquor store for 37 years. It was known as Wilmington's longest-running nightclub spot and was once the home of The Alley.

Pagliaro has leased out the 6,500-square-foot space to 12 tenants over the years — the best-known nightclub was probably the former Porky's Dance Club in the 1990s — and he said he no longer is interested in offering long-term leases.

Pagliaro said he and Colleen, a pediatric pharmacist who has worked in restaurants and as a bartender, gained the confidence to open a wine bar after the success of outdoor cafe events they hosted that included live music and food trucks in the parking lot of FranksWine shop during the pandemic.

The Anura name is a nod to the frog logo at FranksWine, known as Jeremiah. Anura refers to any of an order of amphibians comprising frogs, toads, and tree frogs.

The wine bar has a license to serve alcohol, and the Pagliaros plan to serve food. Since June 2023, the kitchen of the space has been used as a commissary by Chef Robbie Jester for his thriving catering business. Jester is known for winning competitions on the Food Network and the Netflix series Pressure Cooker .

New in Delaware: Restaurants offer BYOB social club, dumplings, smoked cocktails and hot chicken, more

The building was originally a bowling alley that opened in 1941. The space is getting a complete interior and exterior overhaul that includes remodeled restrooms, more space for kitchen preparation, a patio that's compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and a new bar that will offer a Cruvinet wine system similar to a beer tap.

"We're going to pull out everything and do it the right way," Pagliaro said, adding, "No nightclub."

He said the space could be opened before and after theater events in nearby downtown Wilmington and used for parties, wine tastings and pop-up events.

"There's no way to just do a wine bar and sustain it. We're going to have to have other events here," Pagliaro said.

Upcoming events that the Pagliaro say will give people a glimpse at what's coming this fall include a five-course May 17 wine dinner with food prepared by Jester and beverages from California Winery Owner & Winemaker Gus Kalaris of Axios Napa Valley Winery . The cost is $125 per person and includes gratuity. Visit frankswine.com
