Apparently there are 6 injured as well.

What an awful end to an exciting day. Thoughts with the family and friends of those injured and who lost their lives. RIP.

I’d advise people to Google just how many deaths have occurred on these trips before booking one

The video is extremely graphic. Turkish tv news footage of accidents does tend to be far more explicit than here in the UK. I notice that quite a number of the FB groups have already said they won't share the clip because it is so graphic, which is a good thing.

I remember the Father and his young daughter killed in a Jeep Safari accident in Fethiye

Our comfortable jeeps are in good condition and regularly maintained. Every member of the family can part on this appealing trip among the serene atmosphere on a mountain just above the town. Guests of all ages can participate in our interesting Marmaris Jeep Safari . Youth, children, and senior citizens are all welcome to this engaging journey. The actual tour site is just a few kilometres away from Marmaris. Our well-kept jeeps, around 5 to 10 all line up one after another and form a convoy. This is not a racing day, but we move in an orderly fashion at safe speeds (within 50 Km/h) over the beaten muddy tracks among the mountainous terrain. The course of our jeep safari includes the pine forests, off road area, waterfall, muddy tracks, jesus beache and everything that our jeeps can move upon! You will love the splendid scenery as our experienced drivers take you high over the mountainous tracks. Don’t forget to take photographs of this unforgetable day.

During our Marmaris Jeep Safari Tour , we visit one of the nearby villages and provide delicious lunch, cooked and served by the locals. The special BBQ lunch on our jeep safari trip has an authentic local flavour; and we are sure you will like this food and remember the taste for long! After the lunch break, our journey continues among the country side of Marmaris and there is lot more to see. The best day of our holiday!

The Marmaris jeep safari was honestly the best part of our holiday to Turkey this summer. Extremely good fun from7 to 77 and great value for money. Marmaris Travel is the best safari company in town and they are brilliant. The safari takes up full day day, but is well worth it. They picked us up from our hotel with some other guests and then taken from an introduction chat with the other jeeps. The guys in the team are very friendly, great with their English skills and informative. The safari tour involves driving through villages with the mountain scenery around you will stop at the waterfall, Jesus beach, lunch, local villages. Some little tips that will help you: take a towel and sunglasses for the dirt track - you will get wet and a little muddy! Also, take a camera, but (don't forget to protect it from water and mud) if you want as there are so many photo opportunities. There's a photographer taking photos of you the entire safari tour and you can buy all your pictures and videos on a CD. I would highly recommend Marmaris Jeep Safari to anyone staying in the town, whether it's couples, families or groups of friends.

One of the best day out during our holiday in Marmaris this summer, getting soaked with water guns, to swim in the waterfall. You see some beautiful scenery out in the country side when out on the jeeps. Lunch was very good then off to Jesus island to walk in the ans relax. Great day !!!

There no animals on this safari tour but the water fight can bring out some competitivenessIt was the best fun ever! They stop off for waterfall which is really good and Jesus Beech was cool too. Note of warning if you do decide to go on this trip bring a towel, perhaps a spare tshirt. if you have phone with you, it is worth while bring a plastic seal-able bag to protect it from the water!

Jeep safari was one of the best excursions I've been on, our driver Ahmet made our day he was like a big kid and Rambo was always about taking pictures and joining in the fun, if u like water fights, waterfalls and beach this is for you. His wife wrote in the British Press that she was amazed their travel insurance did not cover hiring a quad bike.

The man’s Mother paid £29,000 for a medi-vac back to the U.K. but, sadly he died, soon after he was returned to the U.K.

For what is called hazardous sports, an Extreme Sports Insurance must be taken out before you travel, from the U.K. to Turkey. It covers Paragliding, but, you would need to check if quad bikes, Jeep Safaris etc., would be covered. Some normal Travel Insurance covers Horse Riding (some does not). However, you have to abide by all the Insurance Policies terms and conditions and one includes wearing a proper fitting riding hat.

Eddiebear, I remember the woman on the banana boat, wish I did not, makes me go cold to think about it.

F-J, that's a good point about the horse riding. I frequently see photos of people on the horse riding trips and some are often not wearing hats and wearing totally unsuitable footwear. I've been around horses all my life and I know how easily accidents can happen - even the most placid horse can be spooked by something unexpected.

I know people are on holiday and want to enjoy themselves, but would you do some of the stuff you do on holiday in your own country? Personally I think insurance should be compulsory when travelling abroad.

Let’s hope all that survived are well soon and the unfortunate families have the help they may need.

Not sure or confused, ?don’t understand small print on your insurance ? write down your questions pick up that phone and dial your insurance company and get it made clear what you are covered for, we all know what these companies are like and “ I didn’t know that “ is not a excuse, these last few weeks should be more than a warning to tourists please check before you go and do not take any notice of tour operators selling these products about cover.

Eddie reading through these new rules I wonder if any will be implemented it amazes me when I see 4 people on a scooter at night and 2 of them are kids 1 standing at the front and the lights no brighter than a candle if lights at all They go past police and nothing is done about it. That’s the mentality of some of the people do they not stop and think am putting my kids life’s in danger not just my own sadly this is how they or most have been used to all there lives so won’t change them

I would also add that if you are going on any organised excursions, then at least make sure your trip company is properly licensed and insured (on top of your own travel insurance, of course). I know in the Marmaris/Icmeler area for example, there are several guys who are offering transfers, trips etc and are not licensed or insured to do so. One guy in particular is clearly pushing his services very hard this season and getting people to recommend him all over social media - but if the worse should happen, what then? He may be undercutting the reputable guys pricewise, but cheapest isn't always the safest option.

Two British people killed while on Jeep safari in Turkey

Two British people have been killed and two others injured in a Jeep safari crash in an area popular with tourists close to the coast in southwestern Turkey .

The incident happened near the Sakliken Gorge as the group were returning to the city of Fethiye on Sunday, according to local reports.

Those who died were said to be two British women, a 53-year-old who died at the scene, and another who died later in hospital. As well as two British men who were injured, the Turkish driver and two Turkish passengers were reported to have been hurt.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of a Jeep safari accident near Fethiye in Turkey involving four British nationals, two of whom have died and two of whom have been hospitalised. We are providing consular assistance."

Safaris are popular in southwest Turkey, although there have been fatalities and serious injuries as a result of accidents in the past.

A British man and his eight-year-old daughter died in another Jeep crash in southwestern Turkey in 2012. They were on holiday with six other members of their family, who were all travelling in the same open-topped car when it crashed into a tractor.

In May of this year, another British holidaymaker who was on a break in Izmir was left with serious injuries after she was thrown over an 870 feet (265 metres) cliff in a crash in the countryside.Bryony Fitzpatrick was reported to have been flung from the vehicle after it slewed off the road, hit a tree and her seatbelt opened – although trees broke her fall.

Seven British passengers suffered slight injuries in August 2009 when a jeep carrying them was involved in a crash in August 2009 while on a trip to the Saklikent Gorge. The vehicle was hit from behind by a Turkish car.

Apparently there are 6 injured as well.

What an awful end to an exciting day. Thoughts with the family and friends of those injured and who lost their lives. RIP.

I’d advise people to Google just how many deaths have occurred on these trips before booking one

The video is extremely graphic. Turkish tv news footage of accidents does tend to be far more explicit than here in the UK. I notice that quite a number of the FB groups have already said they won't share the clip because it is so graphic, which is a good thing.
