Metallica Stream 1983 Show From Their Kill ’Em All-Era Tour

Metallica have been digging up some absolute gold for their concert streaming series at the moment, with their latest instalment dating all the way back to 1983 on a Kill ’Em All-era tour.

This week's Metallica Mondays sees the group hit The Metro in Chicago while on tour supporting Raven, with drummer Lars Ulrich contextualising the gig in the video's introduction: “This was nine days after James Hetfield’s 20th birthday, I was 19, Kirk Hammett is 20 and Cliff Burton is 21.”

Reflecting on that time, Lars explains, “This goes back to the summer of 1983, so about 400 years ago on our first tour with our buddies in Raven. We were going across America, just trying to figure it all out.

“Two of the clips appeared on the Cliff ’Em All collection and the full gig was included in the Kill ’Em All box set. The audio didn’t start recording until after Hit The Lights!”

The short but sweet video kicks off with Jump In The Fire, before ’Tallica run through Phantom Lord, No Remorse, Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), Whiplash, Seek & Destroy and Metal Militia.

Watch this week's ace Metallica Mondays below:

Recently , Lars spoke of how coronavirus has affected live music, revealing that he’s “super bummed” about not being able to play shows right now.

“Obviously, these are unprecedented and challenging times for everybody all over the world,” he said. “I’m super bummed that we can’t get out and connect with all our friends and our fans, we’re bummed for the state of the world, but at the same time, I think that we will get back to it at some point.”

Metallica have once again raided the vaults for their weekly ‘Metallica Mondays’ series, this time revisiting their ‘Kill ‘Em All For One’ tour.

The band have gone all the way back to 12 August, 1983, selecting a gig from The Metro in Chicago, from the ‘Kill ‘Em All For One’ trek – the titanic metal outfit’s first-ever national tour, during which they supported Raven. The setlist features tracks including ‘No Remorse’, ‘Whiplash’, ‘Metal Militia’ and ‘Phantom Lord’ and you can check the show out below.

Metallica: Live in Chicago, Illinois - August 12, 1983 (Full Concert... Mostly)

Introducing the set, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says: “This goes back to the summer of 1983, so about 400 years ago on our first tour with our buddies in Raven. We were going across America, just trying to figure it all out.

Black Knight: The Enduring Rock Legacy Of Ritchie Blackmore

“Two of the clips appeared on the Cliff ‘Em All collection and the full gig was included in the Kill ‘Em All box set. The audio didn’t start recording until after Hit The Lights!”

Ulrich adds: “This was nine days after James Hetfield’s 20th birthday, I was 19, Kirk Hammett is 20 and Cliff Burton is 21.”

The band have been uploading some of their favourite shows to their YouTube channel over the last two months, including sets from Slane Castle in Ireland, their 2012 tour in celebration of their ‘Black Album’ and their set at London’s House Of Vans in 2016 .

Elsewhere in Metallica news, the band have just launched Batch 100 of their Blackened whiskey, with a limited edition package featuring two picture discs, a fanzine and more.

Earlier this month, Metallica announced their ‘Month Of Giving’ charity drive in association with their All Within My Hands Foundation . The band are also selling a range of items on their online store which are marked with the tag ‘Month Of Giving’. Proceeds from sales of these items, which include t-shirts, caps, hoodies and more, will go to parter organisations throughout May.

Metallica Post Video of Full 1983 Concert From First-Ever Tour

As part of their ongoing #MetallicaMondays series, which has found Metallica posting complete concerts from across their career, the band has just shared a one-hour video from 1983 when they embarked on their first-ever tour.

The concert, which took place in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 12, 1983, captured a moment in time when a young Metallica were finding their way in the early metal scene, unaware of the thrash movement they'd spearheaded and their soon-to-be major impact on the genre.  At the time, James Hetfield had just turned 20, as was Kirk Hammett . Lars Ulrich was only 19 and Cliff Burton  had celebrated his 21st birthday earlier in the year.

In the video below, Ulrich provides a quick introduction before turning the clock back 37 years to the club show where Metallica pounded out seven original songs in addition to a guitar solo near the end of the set with the spotlight placed on Hammett.

The set was naturally fixed on Metallica's debut album, Kill 'Em All , which had just dropped a couple weeks prior to the Illinois concert, where the only tracks not performed from the record were "Hit the Lights," "The Four Horsemen" and "Motorbreath."

Watch the complete concert below and see the full set list further down the page.

Tour Notes: In April 1983 Venom play two nights at Paramount Theatre in New York supported by a young bunch called Metallica. This Venom extravaganza was masterminded by Rock And Roll Heaven organization consisting of the two crazies, Jon and Marsha Z and Harold and Sherry Risch. The second gig went well in comparsion with Friday night's show in which power failures interrupted the crushing of bones and sacrifices of non-believers. With the audience screaming in pain, Venom's American assault had been a success. Hell had truly paid a visit to Statan Island . As for the Paramount Theater, when the battle was over and  the rubble was cleared away, it was discovered that one of abaddon's nuclear warheads had blown a four-foot hole in the stage and one fireball had been orbited across the building coming to rest in the upper balcony. Cronos had dealt a destructive blow to his speakers, totally wasting his stacks. When the technician assessed the damage done, the total cost for repairs amounted to "666" dollars!

The songs that were planned for the encores that night were: Bloodlust, Schizo and In League With Satan.

The two groups are running back their Kiss of Death Tour

Ice Nine Kills live

After their wildly successful co-headlining run last year, Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment are running it back. The two acts announced the Kiss of Death Tour Part 2. The two bands will join forces once again to bring their spectacular and highly acclaimed live shows together this summer in 21 cities across the country. Very special guests for the trek will be Avatar and TX2. The run begins on August 6 at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York, and Thursday, September 10 at The Factory in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Speaking on the announcement of the tour, Ice Nine Kills frontman, Spencer Charnas, shares, “The Kiss of Death tour with our friends, In This Moment, last year was one for the books… We’re excited to continue the body count this summer when we do it all over again, only bigger, bloodier and without being on parole… See you there Psychos!”

“We are thrilled to announce we are joining forces once again with the one and only Ice Nine Kills and special guests Avatar. We all knew after finalizing the first leg of this tour that there was no other choice than to bring it back for more dates. It’s a visual and audio experience that people will never forget. Get your tickets now!”

Tickets for the Kiss of Death Tour will go on general sale at 10am local on Friday, April 19. Pre-sales start today at 12pm. Check out the full tour itinerary below.

Since the release of ‘ The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood  ‘, Ice Nine Kills have seen phenomenal growth. Throughout 2022 they toured the US extensively on 3 legs of The Trinity of Terror. During 2022 and throughout 2023 they supported Metallica in packed, sold-out stadiums around the world on their M72 World Tour. They toured the US with Slipknot and launched their enormously successful horror convention, The Silver Scream Con, which just celebrated it’s second, sold-out edition in the fall of 2023. Spencer was featured in the music video for the official song from Scream 6 – Demi Lovato’s “Still Alive,” an Ice Nine Kills flyer was used in the movie and featured a Spencer-recommended easter egg.

Maria Brink In This Moment live

Beginning in the spring of 2023, as well as wowing packed-out stadiums around the world with Metallica, Ice Nine Kills headlined numerous sold-out shows on their Wurst Vacation European tour and thrilled tens of thousands of fans at Download Festival to huge acclaim from both critics and fans alike. They then toured the US with Falling In Reverse on their Popular Monstour run and hit the road for ‘ Fear The Premiere ‘ US headline shows in August. Ice Nine Kills closed out 2023 on a high with the release of ‘  Welcome To Horrorwood Under Fire  ‘, an exclusive VIP event in Hollywood for the debut of new single “Meat & Greet” and the premiere of the full “Welcome To Horrorwood Saga” movies (featuring all music videos from the album as one chronological clip) and the phenomenally successful, inaugural run of the Kiss of Death co- headline tour with In This Moment.

In This Moment are returning to the road this spring. The band is embarking on The Godmode Tour in support of their latest album of this same name. The run includes more Dark Horizon co-headlining dates with Motionless In White. The album was produced by Kane Churko (Rob Zombie, Disturbed, Papa Roach) and Tyler Bates. Bates produced, wrote songs for, and played multiple instruments on albums by Marilyn Manson, Bush, and Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell. He is best known, however, for scoring the box office smash  300 , the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series  Californication , the  Guardians of the Galaxy  and  John Wick  film franchises. In This Moment’s song “I Would Die For You” appeared on the soundtrack for  John Wick: Chapter 4 , for which Bates wrote the score.

In 2020, In This Moment released their latest album  Mother  (Roadrunner Records) with longtime producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch). The record featured the GRAMMY® Award-nominated single “The In-Between .”  Last year, In This Moment released  Blood 1983  (BMG), a reimagined EP commemorating the tenth anniversary of their gold-selling album  Blood .
