51 Meals I Ate on my P&O Cruise (Photos and Menus) – Food Review

If you have ever considered a cruise with P&O Cruises you may be wondering about the quality of the food.

P&O cruises are widely regarded as having high-quality food and in this post, I share photos of everything I ate on a 12-night P&O cruise.

Each photo is accompanied by the menu description as well as dietary information.

Main Dining Room Meals – DINNER (Included in Cruise Fare)

The below photos are food examples from dinner on board P&O’s Ventura. Lunch choices are also featured later in the post.

p&o cruises food reviews

Notes: The middle eastern dips may not look like much but it was really tasty!

p&o cruises food reviews

Note: The lentil spaghetti bolognese was brilliant. I loved the number of vegetarian options available onboard!

I am vegetarian so have included some meat dishes from others (as seen below) as examples.

p&o cruises food reviews

Note: The steak was always available on the menu and many family members of mine tried it during our cruise. They all agreed that the steak was well cooked and was of good quality.

Note: I LOVED these Tacos! The portion might not look huge but I was really full after eating the meal.

Christmas Dinner – P&O Cruises Main Dining Room

We spent Christmas day on board P&O’s Ventura and the photos below are of our Christmas dinner.

Note: I didn’t particularly enjoy the amuse (green drink) but I did feel healthy for drinking it.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: Although not amazingly presented my family all agreed that the traditional roast turkey was good. I had a mushroom pie and although I would have preferred a traditional roast with some sort of meat substitute, I was very happy with the meal.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: The breaded brie was one of my favourite foods from the entire cruise, it was just like a giant cheese nugget. Yum!

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: My tart was more wobbly than expected but it tasted good. We experienced quite a bit of bad weather during this cruise and the tart was wobbly as the ship rocked!

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: Without a doubt, the Tofu and broccoli stir fry was my favourite meal of the cruise. It doesn’t look like much in the photo but I’d be happy to eat this day after day! I didn’t like the pudding, but the other 5 people I was cruising with did, that one was just due to personal preference (a bit too soggy for my liking)!

Main Dining Room Meals – LUNCH (Included in Cruise Fare)

The below photos are from the main dining room lunches we had onboard.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: The pasta was the perfect lunch when I wasn’t feeling like eating a huge portion. The chocolate brownie was a little dry and could have benefited from some extra chocolate sauce.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: The great thing about cruising is that if you can’t decide between two dishes, you can order both! Everything I had during this meal was great. I particularly liked the granola on the fool.

Beach House Dinner (Not Included in Cruise Fare – £7.50 Per Person)

The Beach House is a speciality restaurant on P&O Cruises cruise ships. To eat dinner here costs £7.50 per person and there are a couple of items on the menu which cost a few pounds extra.

The Beach House is a converted section of the buffet which changes into an independent restaurant in the evening. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere here.

If you are taking a P&O cruise and don’t want to take part in formal nights, the Beach House is a great alternative. To learn more about how to avoid the formal night dress codes on cruise ships, check out this post: You Can Skip Formal Nights on a Cruise – Here’s How

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: If you are considering dinner at the Beach House, make sure you come hungry. The portions are HUGE. I was looking forward to my nachos all day and they did not disappoint.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: My brother and boyfriend had the double-decker burger and both said it was great. It was difficult to eat due to the size but well worth it. My chocolate cake was HUGE but well worth making room for.

Buffet Meals – (Included in Cruise Fare)

The buffet is a self-service restaurant that is free for all guests.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: I did have some strange combinations when it came to meals from the buffet but that is the fun of a buffet. I particularly liked the ready-made salads and desserts which came in little bowls or on small plates.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: The chocolate cakes and cookies onboard were always tasty. The buffet would open again at 11 pm for late-night snacks so this is where we would often find treats like these.

Costa Coffee Snacks – (Included in Cruise Fare)

On most P&O cruise ships you will find a Costa Coffee. Drinks here must be purchased, either on a pay as you go basis or by purchasing a drinks package.

The cakes, cookies and sandwiches here are always free of charge.

p&o cruises food reviews

Review: I’ve been searching for the best cruise ship cookies for years and these are my favourite. Technically I’d say they’re biscuits not cookies, but even still. These were SO GOOD.

Sindu Dinner (Not Included in Cruise Fare – A La Carte Pricing)

Sindu is a speciality restaurant that serves Indian food with a British twist. We had a great meal here.

Each item on the menu has a separate price, as it would in a restaurant on land.

p&o cruises food reviews

Note: The meal that we had here was so good that I actually forgot to take a photo of my main. Oops! You’ll have to trust me on that one.

Pool Side Grill – (Included in Cruise Fare)

Besides the pool is a poolside grill that serves burgers and hot dogs. The food is made to order and the food is some of the best quality I’ve ever found beside a pool.

Usually, the food at the poolside grill isn’t as good as the food in the buffet or main dining rooms but I have always been impressed with P&O’s poolside food.

Pictured below is my veggie burger and my brother’s cheeseburger, both are served with fries and ketchup.

P&O I will never cruise again

Problems with P&O: .Horizon never loads . Very poor and limited standard of food that is cook awfully . Excursions well over priced and can book cheaper when at destinations . Staff with bad language barriers . Very unhelpful at answering queries . Poor entertainment for anyone below 40 . Very unorganised and dissapointing . Arcadia needs a refurbishment . Too many "black tie" and stupid events

Very Good Call Centre Experience

Booked two cruises this morning on the first day of general sale. Given that the call centre staff must be under a lot of pressure today, I did not feel rushed, everything was explained to me as if I was a first time cruiser. Unfortunately I did not catch the name of the person who completed my booking but she was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Just been to Norway on the P&O IONA

Just been to Norway on the P&O IONA. Overall the ship is OK. There is nothing wrong with it as such, just a little vanilla. It is very annoying that you cannot get doubles on the classic drinks packs or simply pay for the extra shot. No you have to pay for the entire drink. All pretty pointless, especially as the drinks are limited. So MSC really do win on this. We went to most of the paid restaurants, though the menus are very limited and I had Steak most of the time. The steaks were generally cooked great. I love ships that have the large "street" in the middle. This ship seems a disjointed. with venues and restaurants all over the place. Finally one of our excursions was cancelled and for some reason the other paid trip was little more than a map for us to go look around by ourselves. Anyhow it was a decent cruise and we will go on P&O again, but I feel MSC have more to offer.

Shuttle bus charges

We have just returned from a very enjoyable cruise on the Arvia. The only down side was the extortionate charges for the shuttle buses out of the port. Shuttle buses were always free years ago.

Affordable fun & friendly

We had a fabulous experience at a price that was affordable. The ship is beautiful and well kept. Food was of good quality and cabins clean and adequate. We worked out it was cheaper to cruise than to stay in a hotel in the UK and we got to visit 3 ports. No brainer, really.

Susie was so patient and helpful with the 2 queries I had. She went out of her way to correct my partner's loyalty tier which was was incorrect due to an error on my part whilst booking. I didn't feel at all rushed or just 'one more in the queue'. Such a lovely lady and a great P&O ambassador.

Very poor customer service

I have been trying for over one week to contact P&O by phone to order a bunch of flowers to be delivered to a cabin pre cruise. On one occasion I waited 28 minutes on the phone before giving up. It is infuriating and says a lot about how P&O regard their customers. They need to hire more call centre staff or else allow for these purchases to be made on line. I am already disinclined to sail with them again and I haven’t even boarded the ship yet

First time cruising Britannia…

First time cruising Britannia Northern Europe 21st April. Apart from the entertainment there was nothing on this cruise we enjoyed. We stood in a queue for over a hour to board, under cover ok if raining but a wind tunnel and protected from the warmth of the sun so very cold. Unfortunately the weather was terrible so we could not use the balcony. The buffet was on the open pool floor so cold wind blowing through by the end of the cruise they decided to close the doors! Our cabin was A307 appeared to be under the hot dog eating area so dragging the heavy chairs noise could be heard until 5pm. The air conditioning in the entire ship was so cold needed to wear a coat. Presumably this is to stop viruses spreading but being cold can lower your immunity. The buffet hot food was always cold and at peak times was crowded. If you wanted to eat in the restaurants you had to walk from one restaurant to another around 5pm to see menus and online queuing started at 5.45pm no choice of booking an actual time slot just told when a table was ready and you needed to get there in ten minutes. The food in the Peninsula Restaurant was mediocre and in most cases the same as the buffet but food was warmer. The glass house was additional charge but food marginally better than a Beefeater. The top entertainment was La Voix which coming from Aylesbury we had seen enough of at our theatre and at Thame so we didn’t pay the £42 pp for this restaurant. The free talks and activities were either hard sell or diy. On the day visiting Bruges there were so many coaches leaving in the afternoon the tour guides did not know the ticket system. On returning our coach managed to leave 10mins early. When we got back the driver was instructed to park up. We were told this was to avoid queuing in the rain. While we waited 6 other coaches turned up and dropped passengers at the only gang way that was open. We had then been waiting on the coach half an hour. As everyone was complaining the guide got the p&o blonde women in charge of organising the coaches to get on and explain why we could not get off. I would have expected her to apologise that one gang way was not working and the reason why other coaches had priority. But she shouted to everyone on the coach what is your problem if you keep moaning I will take your cruise cards off of you. Enough said I have spent 30 years in the travel industry and sent many people on P&O cruises some world cruises I feel terrible that I had not tried this myself previously.

I have been on six cruises with P & O

I have been on six cruises with P & O, just returned from cruise number 6 (Azura - Mediterranean 7 nights). Met lots of lovely people at dinner, some of whom have been cruising for years. We have noticed small drops in the quality of service and food choices. 25 years ago, a cruise felt like complete luxury and now its just another way to holiday. It hasn't put me off cruising in future, but will definitely try another operator when I book again. It is still a perfect way to see lots of different places in one trip and I would recommend sightseeing independently as P & O charge a lot for their port trips. We had an inside cabin on Azura which was really poky and difficult to get around the bed area due to the bunk beds stored on the walls at either side (which were not flush to the wall but protruding around 8 inches meaning you had to side step and bend forwards to avoid them) - we wished we had booked a larger room, but was ok for a 7 night trip. Love the My Holiday app, which you can use to join a virtual queue for dinner as it saves hanging around the restaurants and you can just go and get a drink while waiting. Its difficult to get a sunbed when the sun is out, and you can't reserve a spot, so best to get out early if you want one. Years ago, you were offered cheese and crackers after your meal in the restaturants and could choose what you liked, now you just get a pre-prepared plate which always includes blue cheese so if you dont like that, its tough, and you have to order it as a desert now. A cruise is still good value for money but I would say that its not really a luxury holiday anymore..

Highest Quality provided

Highest Quality provided. This was our 6th and best cruise. Cabin clean spacious and well equipped for a wheelchair user with electronic doors, adjustable hand basin, wet floor shower. Staff all friendly and helpful. Good entertainment provided. Good selection of food on menus. Virtual queueing avoided delays in getting a table. journey very smooth.

I'm a Disable pensioner...p&o .at Christmas to carrabian cruise...food was not good. Over 300 guests queing out the restaurant for Xmas dinner with people trapped in the lifts as no room outside them to get out. . doors open 6.30 free for all for a table disabled pushed over in the rush...unbelievable....Had to book to go to see a show .. some 701 club booked up before you got on . NEVER AGAIN. SHIP WAS THE .IONA ..

Disappointed- previous staff member

I use to work for this company a few months ago and I must admit, I regret it. I booked a cruise in April 2023 whilst working for the company, which meant we got 75% off. The cruise was for May 2024. I was offered another opportunity in July where I had to leave the company. 3 weeks before the cruise, the company cancelled my cruise without me knowing. All I got was a cancellation invoice and I thought it was a scam. Until I rang the company, they said the policy has changed and how I no longer work for the company. I can only join the cruise if I pay an extra £2700. This was 3 weeks before the cruise! I had booked my train tickets to Southampton and insurance. This company does not give a s***. Then they said they will refund me the money, they’ve only sent me less than 25% of the amount I paid! I am disgusted with this company and will take them to court if I don’t receive my full refund. This has put me off cruising with them and I would give zero stars if I could.

Cruise Fremantle to Broome

Went on cruise Fremantle to Broome. Missed 2 stops because of illness (which is not fault of P&O) but nothing offered ie future cruise. Have been on P&O cruises 5 times now but never get anything for past passengers. Went NCL twice and got drinks and restaurant upgrade for us and 2 guests on cruise Athens to Israel. Bit weak.

I had a reply from P&O which was funny because when I emailed their Customer Services before I wrote my report on Trustpilot they totally ignored me! See below... Very disappointed Very disappointed! Customer Services are useless. Please read their unfair T&C's before you book with them, or via a cruise agent! I had to cancel my solo Fjords cruise 5 months in advance due to personal reasons, so tried to move my deposit to another cruise with my wife. I checked the price which was going to be £600 more but P&O said I could only move my deposit to another solo cruise and then add my wife on. This was £800 more on top of the already more expensive cruise. Ridiculous as my deposit was £175 so it was much cheaper to lose that and re-book a new cruise. Unfortunately due to the unfair pricing I cancelled and lost my deposit rather than book with P&O. Very stupid on their part as we usually cruise once or twice a year with Celebrity and I was giving P&O cruises a go to see what they were like. Their loss as I will not be booking with P&O again. To make things worse I had to pay an extra £25 to Iglu cruises for an admin fee. They are not too clever because I will not be booking with them again either due to poor communication which was caused due to impossibility to contact them once you are booked. Standards have dropped a bit and the clientele has definitely dropped off a cliff. A lot of Northerners on these cruises which wasn’t the case pre-Covid. Biggest gripe on my last Caribbean cruise was the sheer number of passengers walking into the restaurants not bothering to wash their hands, simply walking past the wash basin. Even saw one man cough into the food at the buffet.

Wouldn't give any stars but can't

Wouldn't give any stars but can't. On Caribbean cruise at beginning of year flying with maleth aero. Like everyone else who had to suffer this charter company we are still awaiting compensation. There not answering anything now and would appear not to be flying, last attempt out of Gatwick was cancelled, and passengers left sitting in airport. PO are not honouring there package holiday bookings criteria, not answering emails. ABTA &CAA have both had report but have also not responded. I have totally lost faith and respect with P O.

Love to cruise

Love to cruise. Enjoy visiting new places, sight seeing and experiencing new things. I enjoy having the formal days, makes the holiday experience special as don’t have many occasions to get dressed up. Also like that I can dress casual if I want Enjoy the fun of the sail away Like having the choice of waiter service or buffet. Like that my holiday experience is personal to me

First cruise was amazing

First cruise experience and overall we had an amazing time. A couple of negatives - the first and main one being the time taken to get a drink in any of the bars onboard - lack of staff and having to sit at a table and wait for a waiter to spot you and come over means that by the time you’ve finished your first drink it’s then another wait to get a second one. Second minor gripe is that the lifts take forever and are often full. Whilst this doesn’t overly affect me people with reduced mobility would struggle and are ok for a fairly long wait. Everything else was perfect, staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us.
