How To Enable Sidetone On A Poly (Plantronics) Headset

Sidetone is one of those subjects that causes people to stop, and scratch their head. That is, unless you’re a savvy audiophile who’s knowledgeable about all things audio related. 

For the vast majority of people, the term Sidetone is one that probably leaves them wondering. 

• What is sidetone? 
• What does it do? 
• Why would sidetone be important, or even a topic for discussion? 

All good questions. 

The shortcut answer about sidetone is that it’s the ability to hear your own voice when speaking. If you cannot hear your voice when talking to someone for example, it makes it hard, or even nearly impossible to know what volume to speak at.

You might end up yelling at someone while thinking you’re speaking normally. Or, you might find yourself speaking quietly to the point where it’s hard to hear you. That’s where sidetone comes into play. 

There’s a fair amount of information on the subject, some articles get into a lot of technical details, while others maybe leave you wanting more. Here’s an article written by Iron Horse Trading that discusses sidetone , that I think you might find interesting and informative on this subject.

If you’re still reading this blog, then here’s the 411 on how to adjust sidetone on your Poly headset. 

Download the Poly Hub Software

Connect your Poly headset to your computer 

Once your headset is connected to your computer, go to “settings” within the Poly Hub software 

Go to Ringtones 

Go to Volume 

Go to Sidetone. Here you will have the option of selecting low, medium or high. Make your selection 

Once you’ve made your settings selection (L, M, H), click Apply 

That’s it. You’re now a Poly Headset Sidetone Dojo Master, or Guru. Now you can boast to your fellow coworkers of your new status with glowing pride. Well done!

Voyager Focus Audio not working when connected to a computer.

For best performance, ensure your headset's firmware is up to date using the Poly Lens application .

• Connect the headsets to the computer using a USB cable and run the Lens application.
• Under available headsets, select the Voyager focus.
• Under the Overview menu, verify if there is any available update
• If yes, then proceed.

Update the headset using the USB cable, or when is paired to the Poly BT USB adapter.

• Ensure that only one application is opened at a time
• If you are listening to music and you received a call, stop the music first for better audio.
• Configure the headset sound on your computer.
• Go to Start menu > Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab
• select Poly BT700 or Plantronics BT600, set it as the Default Device and click OK.
• Go to Start menu > Control Panel > Sound > Communications tab.
• select the desired parameter.
• Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound.
• On both the Input and Output tabs, select Poly BT700 or Plantronics BT600.

Teams audio drops with Plantronics Voyager Focus Bluetooth Headset.

Greetings All,

Currently trying to find a fix for an issue with teams that has popped up recently (within the past month) with multiple staff using Poly Voyager headsets.

When running teams and using the headset as Speaker & Mic as default, During the call when another sound is generated from outside the teams app (Outlook popup, system sound etc), Teams will disconnect the headset entirely and it disappears from the Team devices as well. The headset is still primary for Win10 and can still be used as normal. Can hear any other app audio with no issue.

This doesn't happen in any other video conferencing app (Works fine with Zoom and Webex).

Troubleshooting done:

Uninstalled and Reinstalled Teams - Issue persistent.

Firmware updated the headsets and docking stations - Issue persistent.

Removed the appdata for teams and reinstalled teams - Issue persistent.

Setup the headset app to teams settings - issue persistent.

Tested other headset/Earbuds - teams works fine.

Updated Win10 and PC model Audio drivers. - Issue persistent.

out of ideas on how to fix it, I have also opened a ticket with Poly.
