Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 193 With Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview , the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed the ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

The current ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ release is compatible with machines running macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma , the latest version of macOS that Apple released in September 2023.

The ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser . Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website .

Apple's aim with ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

Africa safari with 5D IV

It was April and May. Went to Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Lens was 100-400 II. Took 1.4 EX III, but never used it.

I thought the lens and camera combo was fantastic.

I didn't get lots of dust, although safari was mostly in open vehicles (except Kenya, they are still old fashioned). On few occasions I wiped the camera and lens though, just out of habit.

Sensor was safe as I only changed lens on few occasions.

Buy one of those cheap camping towels that are about 1m by 50cm but crush up to almost nothing. Wrap it round the gear, usually 1dx 500ii in my case, and no problems!

Great set! That reminds me last trip of Mara years ago with 5D III and 1D III.

Did you feel 100-400L IS II is a bit too slow and not long enough (in eastern Africa usually)? Usually game rides are in early AM or late PM that sometime under dim light. These were the concerns I left 100-400L IS (mark I) at home then. Nevertheless the big advantage is that It's relative compact and light (compared to 500L) if you just use one lens on one body.

Good idea. Recently was photographing  a large group outdoor hiking event in the Sierra mountains (California). I got a ton of dust on my 5D4 + 24-70/2.8LII combo. Decided not to change lenses because if it. Cleaned everything on the outside back home before taking the lens off. I think everything cleaned up ok but a little concerned about dust getting into the lens barrel.

This incedeny make me think that on a dusty safari I would probably want to stick with one body per lens. Nice thing about the big white primes is that they are fully enclosed (barrel does not extend).

Two lenses I used in last trip are all protected by respective Lenscoat that also can prevent dusts from penetrating into the lenses. Once returned to tent each time even in lunch break (still a few hours), cleaned lenses and bodies, so basically twice each day.

On my experience swapping lenses on bump truck is very risky. Therefore I carried two sets for safari photos - 500L IS on 5D3 and 70-200L/2.8 IS II on 1D3 and never swapped lenses, another set 24-70L II on 5D2 for landscape snapshots. Will still carry two sets in future trips.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  I've never been on a safari but hoping to do so in the next year or so if I can find the time.  I want to be as prepared as possible because I can't imagine having opportunity to do this more than once.

Wonderful images! And nice job proving the great IQ and versatility of the 100-400. I have the same match with 5DIV, great combo.

Just want to add that when it does get dusty (depends on weather obviously) it does get real dusty and I mean really dusty so you are right to prepare.

i took 3 bodies 1dx 500isii, 5d3 usually with 72isii but also 16-35ii and 7d2 with 70-300. The last was never used. The first was used 80% of the time of which about 20% was with 1.4iii.

took 2000 photos a day which is not normally my style.

this was Masai Mara and we were lucky enough to see the crocs come in for the wildebeest for several hours... that kept me clicking!

Yes. 600 would be perfect and you would use 1.4 for 10-20% of time.

i took 500 simply because I thought it would be easier to manage but actually if I did it again I would take 600. Everything is so catered for that it would not be a problem.

also I found the local customs at the airports were more in awe of all the equipment - never had a problem. Though one did ask if he could have my watch....
