Friendly staff, fun activities and lots of great food. And the water taxi was wonderful

Beautiful resort, clean, quiet and convenient. We will definitely be back again soon!

The hotel property is beautiful. There are a lot of great food options both at the hotel and just a ferry ride away. The pool was amazing. Getting to and from the parks was easy. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

The facilities were nice - the perks were also nice- early admission to the park. Great pool, and little market for quick breakfast or snacks on the go. Close proximity to all the parks Our room was great

Everything!! From the lobby to the rooms and the restaurants, and staff was super friendly and helpful. All the water taxi captains were awesome too. Some of the staff that stood out by name were Nico and David (from the Kanteen), Alessandra (from Amatista), and especially Mark Huurneman (Director of Food & Beverage). However, all were extremely kind and helpful.

The room was perfectly clean and in order, the staff went above and beyond to be kind and help wherever possible and it's the perfect location to stay for visiting Universal. The boat ride to CityWalk was so easy and made our trip so enjoyable.

Loved the boat shuttle to the parks, pool was amazing and the hotel is beautiful!

Beautiful grounds and right by the ferry boat to take to City Walk LOVE that the grounds aren't overwhelming to walk, EVERYTHING you need right there:)

It was an exceptional stay at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort for a President’s weekend break, and visiting Universal Studios theme park could not be easier with an early admission to skip the lines. The water shuttle is a great way to bring the guests - the kids enjoyed it so much! Will definitely be back there again!

Excellent location!

Why is it a good idea to look for the best hotels near Universal Studios Orlando? Certainly there’s a lot of lodging to choose from in the area. The answer is the best hotels at Universal Orlando offer a variety of perks that are only available to its guests, such as:

Ease of access. By staying close to Universal, you don’t lose time in transit — and the commute can even be fun. Exclusive passes. If you book a Premier category hotel, you also get a complimentary Universal Express Unlimited pass. These are available with a qualifying reservation at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort properties and allow you to skip the line altogether.

Of course, proximity is not paramount for everyone. If you’re looking for a good bargain while redeeming points, there are loads of options in Orlando. Among them are several familiar favorites.

DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando

Hilton Honors fans will love this property, which is literally at the entrance to the parks — and mentioned in the official name of the hotel. While redemption rates vary by night as part of the brand’s dynamic pricing model , it’s a great option for those who want to cut down on costs by using points, but who also prefer to reach the parks on foot.

Residence Inn Near Universal Orlando

At this hotel, you can count a free shuttle among one of the many perks for guests. Marriott Bonvoy members may already know that Residence Inn properties offer extra living space, in-room kitchenettes and living areas with sofa beds. Complimentary breakfasts are yet another benefit of a stay at this hotel, which also has a pool and fitness room.

Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, across from Universal Orlando Resort

safari hotel universal studios orlando

The Hyatt Place and Hyatt House across from Universal Orlando Resort are both great points redemption options. Hyatt Place is a category 2 property with rates starting at 6,500 points for a redemption night. Hyatt House is a category 3 property with redemption rates starting at 9,000 points. Both include free breakfast and a shuttle to the parks, which are also within walking distance.

Redeeming points this way can represent a big value for guests. If paying for a stay, consider using the World of Hyatt Credit Card to earn bonus points for every dollar you spend — up to 9x points on Hyatt stays.

Whether you want to stay at a luxury resort, a spot where you can redeem points or a budget- and family-friendly hotel, there’s a property for every kind of traveler near Universal Orlando.

These suggestions provide a brief rundown of hotels that meet several types of travel styles and budgets, but in the end, the best Universal hotel for you may just be the one where you enjoy time with the ones you love.

Best Universal Orlando Hotels

Over the last ten years, Universal Orlando Resort has dramatically expanded its on-site hotel options. With most resorts within walking distance to the parks , a variety of perks for staying on property that rivals its main competitor Disney (often at a cheaper price ), and immersive theming, staying at a Universal resort is a great option when planning your Universal Studios vacation . So what are the best Universal Orlando hotels?

The best hotels at Universal vary depending on the type of traveler you are and the experience you’re seeking. For example, Hard Rock Hotel® is best for adults, while Cabana Bay Beach Resort is best for families. Not sure how to pick the hotel that’s right for your trip? We’ve got you covered with our list of the best Universal Orlando hotels for any Universal vacation.

Benefits of Staying at a Universal Hotel

Before we dive into our list of the best Universal Orlando hotels, let’s discuss the benefits of staying onsite at Universal property.

Early Park Admission

One of the greatest advantages of staying on property is Early Park Admission for select attractions during your stay. Early entry is available up to one hour before the park opens for the rides that tend to have the longest waits at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. You can also enter Volcano Bay, Universal’s water park, up to 30 minutes before the general public. Early Park Admission attractions rotate every few weeks (view a current list of what’s offered here ) but generally include popular attractions within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, including Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts™, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™, Flight of the Hippogriff™, and even Ollivanders™ wand shop. Other popular attractions that may be included with Early Park Admission are Despicable Me Minion Mayhem™, VelociCoaster, and The Incredible Hulk Coaster®.

Free Transportation

Another benefit of staying onsite at a Universal resort hotel is free transportation between each hotel, the Universal theme parks, and CityWalk. Every resort includes shuttle service or a water taxi. In addition, most hotels (except for Endless Summer Resort) have walking paths that connect the hotel to the theme parks. Since most hotels are close to the theme parks, utilizing the provided transportation is the quickest way to get around Universal property.

Complimentary Universal Express Passes

Guests staying at a “Premier” level resort (the most expensive pricing tier) enjoy the added benefit of free Universal Express Unlimited Passes included with each night of your stay. The express pass allows you to skip the regular lines at many attractions at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Now that we’ve covered why it’s beneficial to stay at a Universal Resort, here are our top picks for the best Universal Orlando hotels for any type of vacation:

Best Universal Orlando Hotel for Adults

The best Universal Orlando hotel for adults is the Hard Rock Hotel®. This resort is a dream come true for any classic rock lover. Themed after a California mission like the one profiled in the classic Eagles hit, “Hotel California,” the Hard Rock Hotel pays homage to the greatest musicians of all time. The walls are filled with autographed photos and musical artifacts from the most incredible acts of the 20th century and beyond. Get inspired for your own songs when you sit in John Lennon’s love seat, catch a glimpse of Elvis’ pajamas, or spot a guitar signed by Jon Bon Jovi. You can even arrange for a free tour of the resort’s music memorabilia in the front lobby.

For the ultimate, immersive musical experience, you’ll want to check out the free Sound of Your Stay® program (teens will love it too). This program allows hotel guests to rent free musical equipment like Fender guitars, Crosley turntables (with a collection of curated records), and download exclusive playlists through Spotify. For those worried about noise complaints, headphones are also included with the rentals.

Adults will also enjoy the musical events that occur throughout the year, like Velvet Unplugged, featuring new and well-known artists playing acoustic sets in a cabaret setting.

Don’t forget to check out the world’s largest Hard Rock Cafe, located a short walk from the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal CityWalk.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort at Universal Orlando

Best Universal Hotels for Families

Cabana Bay Beach Resort is one of the best Universal Orlando Hotels for families. Cabana Bay is Universal’s largest resort, offering plenty of space for groups traveling together. Its bright and bold retro-theming is reminiscent of Florida’s family-friendly motels of the 50s and 60s.

There are plenty of things for the entire family to do, from the lively pool area that features two pools and a lazy river to the on-site bowling alley. Universal characters may also appear from time to time on Friday nights. Adults will love the nostalgia of the resort, right down to retro touches like the Zest and VO5 brand toiletries in the bathrooms.

Another added benefit for families is Cabana Bay’s proximity to Volcano Bay. Some rooms offer views of the waterpark—and what kid wouldn’t love looking out their window and seeing a volcano?! For parents with young children, you’ll enjoy the walking trail that connects Cabana Bay to Volcano Bay. That way, you don’t have to load all your water gear onto a cold shuttle to get back to your resort after visiting the water park.

For extra space, check out Cabana Bay’s family suites . These suites sleep up to six guests and include two queen beds and a pull-out sofa. The bathroom is also designed so that three people can get ready at one time.

Honorable mention for families: If Cabana Bay doesn’t have you jumping, jiving, and wailing, we recommend checking out the themed family suites at Universal’s Preferred and Premier hotels. These include Despicable Me rooms at Loews Portofino Bay, Jurassic World suites at Royal Pacific, and Future Rock Star rooms at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Best Universal Hotel for Couples

The best Universal hotel for couples is Royal Pacific Resort . This resort offers guests the ultimate tropical getaway while being close to the fun and thrills of the Universal theme parks. The resort whisks you away with cool palm breezes, a lagoon-style pool with a white-sand beach, and plenty of places to enjoy a tropical cocktail, like the Orchid Court Lounge and Sushi Bar or Jake’s American Bar. Take a water taxi to CityWalk for added ambiance to your South Pacific retreat. Book a garden or water view room for more tranquility and stunning tropical views.

Most Luxurious Hotel at Universal Studios Orlando

Portofino Bay is the most luxurious hotel at Universal Studios. Themed after the small waterfront village on the Italian Riviera, Portofino Bay combines beauty, romance, and elegance. Portofino Bay is Universal’s original and most expensive on-site hotel. There are other ways this resort takes “big” to a new level: the rooms are the largest on property (averaging 450 square feet each), it has the most suite categories (five), and the largest amount of on-site dining locations (nine). It is also the only Universal hotel to include a full-service salon and spa. Guests of all ages will enjoy the three themed pool areas, including a family pool with a waterslide, a pool with cabanas (available for rent), and a secluded, private pool. For the most luxurious experience available at Universal, check out the Governatore or Presidente Suites , which are 2,265 and 2,725 square feet, respectively.

Most Affordable Hotel at Universal Studios

The most affordable hotel at Universal Studios is the Endless Summer Resort. Endless Summer consists of two sister hotels: Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites. These two resorts make up Universal’s “value” category, with room rates starting at $91 per night in 2023. Both Surfside and Dockside feature beach theming and pools. The resort shares a food court, cocktail bar, and two Starbucks locations. A pizza delivery service is also available. The accommodation savings come with a price: this resort is furthest from Universal property and is not within walking distance of Universal. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to take guests between the hotel and the theme parks.

Best Pool at Universal Orlando Resort

The best pool at Universal Orlando is at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort . Why? It is the largest pool out of any Universal hotel(coming in at a gigantic 16,000 square feet) and includes several play areas, whether you want to splish and splash or dip your toes in the sand. For the family, there’s a water splash area, a waterslide, and poolside games like water balloon tosses and a pool table. For teens and adults looking to relax, there are two sand beaches and private cabanas available for rent.

Universal Studios Orlando Hotels: Everything You Need to Know

U niversal Studios Orlando has 8 on-property hotels that are close to all of the theme park action! There is a hotel perfect for everyone's budget.

Trying to pick the best hotel for your family, though, can seem overwhelming. Our guide to all of the on-site hotels at Universal Orlando helps you choose the best one.

Universal Studios Hotel Perks

Time is money. And when you are on vacation, you want to enjoy every single minute of your getaway. Choosing to stay on property at Universal Studios Orlando will save you a lot of time in transportation, parking and waiting in attraction lines.

The perks you get with your hotel will vary depending on the category that you choose (there are four different categories, which are described below). Generally, the more expensive the hotel, the greater the perks that you will receive.

The following perks are for  every  Universal Orlando hotel.

Early Park Admission

All on-site Universal Studios hotels offer guests Early Park Admission to  The Wizarding World of Harry Potter  and Volcano Bay water park. This means you can enter the Universal Studios theme parks up to an hour before everyone else.

Since The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the most popular destinations at all of Universal Studios Orlando, this perk can save you a lot of time in your day.

This is one of the  best tips for saving time at Universal Studios .

Complimentary Transportation

Every hotel offers at least one mode of transportation to get to Universal Citywalk, as well as the two theme parks.

The hotels have  shuttle transportation , usually a large bus, that brings guests to the theme parks, CityWalk and the water park, Volcano Bay.

Some hotels offer a free water taxi shuttle to get to Universal CityWalk. From there, you can easily walk to the two theme parks.

These hotels include Sapphire Falls Resort, Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Portofino Bay Hotel.

It is wise to avoid parking at Universal Studios Orlando. Parking rates are crazy high and range from $30-$60. Unless you use our tips for  free parking at Universal Studios .

Then, you park in one central parking deck and have to hike through the parking to enter Universal CityWalk. From the entrance, you then have to walk around the lake to go to either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.

It takes a LOT of time, you'll be in huge crowds, and there is almost no reason that you would want to drive your vehicle to park in the parking garage if you are staying at a Universal Orlando hotel.

Airport Transportation

Though not complimentary, shuttle service is available to and from the  airport  when staying at a hotel at Universal Studios.

Universal's SuperStar Shuttle Program can be booked with your Universal vacation package. See all of the ways for  how to get from the Orlando Airport to Universal Studios .

Airport transportation is not available from Sanford Orlando Airport. This is only available from Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Luggage Storage

For the days when you need to check in or check out but you are going to the theme parks during the day, Universal Hotels will  store your luggage  for free.

Complimentary Wifi is available in all guest rooms and most common guest areas.

Package Delivery

Another perk offered by all on-site hotels is the convenience of sending in-park purchases back to your room. You won’t have to carry the souvenirs that you are buying with you all day.

Easy Hotel Room Key Charging

Simplify your traveling by making all of your purchases with your hotel room key. The charges will be put to your credit card on file at the hotel.

Premiere Hotel Guest Perks

The most expensive hotels at Universal Studios Orlando have even better perks. These hotels include:

  • Loews Portofino Bay Hotel
  • Hard Rock Hotel
  • Loews Royal Pacific Resort

Universal Express Unlimited

The biggest perk is  free Universal Express Unlimited Ride access . With this pass, you can skip the lines at some of the most popular attractions in Universal's two theme parks (but not Volcano Bay water park).

With a value of $129 a day per person (or much more!), this is a pretty huge perk for Universal's Premiere hotels.

Priority Seating

Premiere hotel guests also get priority seating at select restaurants.

If you plan ahead and make  dining reservations , then this might not be a big deal to you.

However, if you are visiting during peak travel times and don't like to be locked in with a dining reservation time, this perk can help you get seated faster at some of the most popular restaurants.

The 8 Hotels at Universal Studios Orlando

There are four different categories of hotels at Universal Studios Orlando. They include:

  • Premier : Loews Portofino Bay, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando. The premier hotels begin at  $267+  per night.
  • Preferred : Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. Loews Sapphire typically begins at  $181+  per night.
  • Prime Value : Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Aventura Hotel. These budget friendly options begin at  $131+ per night.  (See our  comparison of Cabana Bay vs. Aventura )
  • Value : Both Endless Summer Resorts, the Surfside Inn and Dockside Inn. These are an amazing deal at  $91+  per night.

Premiere Universal Resort Hotels

Loews portofino bay .

5601 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819

This resort will make you feel like you are staying in Italy! Loews Portofino Bay is beautiful and instantly transports you into another world. The entire resort, including the large guest rooms, are decorated in a classical Italian theme.

The Harbor Piazza is one of the most popular places to be outside and enjoy the weather. Grab a cone of gelato from the Gelateria and enjoy watching the water taxis arrive or bask in the Florida sun. At night, classical opera performances are held in the Piazza.

There are 5 on site restaurants and 2 on site bars. This resort offers a full service spa, and 3 Italian themed swimming pools to help you beat the Florida heat.

Loews Royal Pacific Resort

6300 Hollywood Way, Orlando, FL 32819

The Loews Royal Pacific has a luxurious South Seas theme. The lagoon-style pool has white sand beaches lined with palm trees. There is a Royal Bali Sea interactive water play area for kids.

The rooms are spacious, and some have beautiful tropical garden views while others have spectacular water views. Royal Pacific does offer suite options including the fully immersive Jurassic World Kids Suite.

There are 5 onsite restaurants including the Island Dining Room that serves delicious Pan Asian cuisine.

Hard Rock Hotel At Universal Orlando

5800 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819

You don't have to be into rock music to really enjoy a stay at the Hard Rock Hotel! But it does help to enjoy and appreciate music across the decades if you are staying here.

There is an incredible collection of rock and roll memorabilia throughout the resort. And everything is music themed, which is a fun and different decor compared to most area hotels.

The hotel has several bar options including the Velvet Bar for relaxed cocktails, or you can have poolside drinks at the Beachclub. The fun California-mission style can be seen in every facet of the property.

There are 4 onsite restaurants and bars at the Hard Rock, including The Palm, a famous New York Steakhouse with a fun uptown atmosphere and delicious food.

The Hard Rock Cafe is NOT at the Hard Rock Hotel Universal Orlando. The cafe is located in Universal CityWalk on the opposite side of the lagoon, and offers concerts at that location.

Hard Rock Cafe at Universal CityWalk is not located at the Hard Rock Hotel

At the pool, you will find DJ’s, live music and an underwater sound system!

The rooms are a unique blend of modern style and comfort.

Preferred Universal Resort Hotels

Loews sapphire falls resort.

6601 Adventure Way, Orlando, FL 32819

Both Lowes Sapphire Falls Resort and Universal's Aventura Hotel share the same entrance and are located side by side.

Located across from Aventura Hotel and Cabana Bay Beach Resort, this island-themed resort is the only preferred hotel on site at Universal Orlando. There is one entrance for both Loews Sapphire Falls and Universal's Aventura Hotel.

They are literally side by side, to put location into perspective.

You will enjoy waterfalls cascading on the tropical grounds of this hotel. The Caribbean theme carries over to the 16,000 square foot pool with a sand beach and its lush green gardens.

Rooms are large with fun tropical themes, you can easily upgrade to lagoon or pool views. Kids suites are available.

There are 4 restaurants and bar options at the Loews Sapphire Falls, these include Amatista Cookhouse that features Caribbean inspired cuisine.

Or you can check out the Strong Water Tavern where they have rare vintage rums, as well as their own rum specialist. There are even Rum Dinners to enjoy at the hotel.

Prime Value Universal Resort Hotels

Cabana bay beach resort.

6550 Adventure Way, Orlando, FL 32819

If you are looking for fun colors, happy theming, and a ton of water-activities, then this prime value hotel if for you! With a 1950's and 1960's retro vibe, the Cabana Bay Beach Resort is family-friendly and reminds you of old-fashioned travel.

What we absolutely love are the mini-suites that have a small living room and kitchenette area. They make the room feel so much bigger, and you can keep food in the refrigerator and cook food in the microwave.

There are so many activities at Universal Studio's Cabana Bay that you might not even leave the resort to go to the theme parks. Which is the perfect for a budget-friendly stay in Orlando!

There are 2 huge swimming pools, a lazy river, a bowling alley and an arcade, along with lawn games to play. This is the only Universal  Orlando hotel with a lazy river .

If you are going to  Volcano Bay water park , this hotel is located adjacent to Volcano Bay. In fact, you can even request some cool rooms overlooking the volcano.

The Bayliner Diner is like a large food hall, with diner fare and a large movie screen to watch retro films.

There are a variety of places to eat at Cabana Bay, including in the bowling alley, poolside cafes, or the Swizzle Lounge where you can enjoy retro cocktails.

As a value resort, we think it goes above and beyond with theming, amenities and large spacious rooms that you can't find in other budget-friendly hotels. Be sure to check out our extensive  Cabana Bay Beach Resort Review and Room Tour .

And  watch our Youtube video  to see what the rooms and resort look like.

Aventura Hotel

6725 Aventure Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819

This prime value, mid-range hotel option is located across from Cabana Bay and next to Sapphire Falls. One of Universal Orlando's newest resorts, it was built in a minimalist, modern style.

Thanks to its unique (and towering) design, this hotel provides amazing views of all 3 Universal parks. Aventura is also within walking distance from Universal’s Volcano Bay water park.

From this vantage point at Cabana Bay, you can see the towering Aventura Hotel in the distance on the left.

Bar 17 Bistro is a rooftop bar with spectacular views.

Urban Pantry, located just off of the lobby, is like a modern food-hall with a variety of different cuisines.

Value Universal Resort Hotels

The newest hotels at Universal Orlando are not located near any of the hotels mentioned above. Endless Summer hotels are located nearby the theme park area (in the former Orlando Wet n' Wild location), but you won't be walking to the theme parks, Universal CityWalk or Volcano Bay. You will need to use a shuttle service or your own vehicle to get to Universal Studios.

However, even with the lack of convenience for walking or water taxis, these hotels are highly rated and among my family's favorite picks.

Endless Summer Resorts: Surfside Inn

7000 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819

Surfside Inn was the first value category hotel at Universal. The surfer vibes here are definitely relaxed. This is a great budget friendly option for families!

You’ll find the rooms to be beachy and soothing, but not kitschy. There are 2 bedroom suites available for larger families.

Surfside Inn has 4 on-site dining options that include the Surfside Pizza Delivery that will deliver freshly made pizzas to your hotel room. Or try the Beach Break Cafe, a casual food court that has all of your SoCal favorites.

The hotel has a great surfboard shaped pool, full fitness center and arcade games for the whole family.

Endless Summer Resorts: Dockside Inn

7125 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819

The newest resort at Universal Orlando takes its inspiration from the sunset, sand and sea. Dockside Inn’s sister hotel is the Surfside Inn and they are directly across the street from one another.

The comfortable rooms have tranquil decor and colors. Dockside Inn has 6 bars and restaurants on site including The Wave Makers Pool Bar that features signature cocktails and frozen poolside drinks.

Or check out Pier 8 Market, where you can grab quick bites all day long. There are 2 large pools complete with sand beaches and a kids splash pad.

Transportation Options at the Universal Orlando Resort

by Whitney Littlejohn · January 31, 2022

safari hotel universal studios orlando

One of the amazing benefits of staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel is leaving your travel worries behind and hopping on a water taxi, shuttle bus, or taking a short walk over to one of the three spectacular theme parks.

Universal

Check out this helpful guide to plan your travel times to the parks.

My favorite and most relaxing mode of transportation is the water taxis. Water taxis are available exclusively at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Orlando, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, with an average travel time of less than 10 minutes and beautiful views to enjoy along the way. The water taxi takes you straight from the hotel to  Universal CityWalk . From there, you can choose to head to Universal’s Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios Florida.

Shuttle Bus

safari hotel universal studios orlando

Another option for transportation to our parks is the shuttle bus. The shuttle bus is offered at all of our hotels, runs consistently throughout the day, and will take you to either Volcano Bay for a day of thrills and chills or to CityWalk where you can easily walk to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

  • Universal’s Endless Summer Resort : Shuttle bus arrives every 15 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort : Shuttle bus arrives every 15 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Universal’s Aventura Hotel : Shuttle bus arrives every 15 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Portofino Bay Hotel: Shuttle bus arrives every 30 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Hard Rock Hotel: Shuttle bus arrives every 30 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Royal Pacific Resort: Shuttle bus arrives every 30 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes
  • Sapphire Falls Resort: Shuttle bus arrives every 30 minutes starting one hour prior to park open until CityWalk closes

Walking Path

Sapphire Falls Resort

Photo: Loews Hotels

The last method of transportation is also the oldest mode of transportation… by foot! Most of the hotels offer a connecting walking path that takes you from one hotel to another or to CityWalk, Universal Studios Florida, or Islands of Adventure. One of the really cool benefits about staying at Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Aventura Hotel, and Sapphire Falls Resort is that these hotels offer a dedicated walking path straight to Volcano Bay. This beautiful path is just a short walk over to the thrills of the slides and the relaxation of Waturi Beach under the Krakatau volcano.

Each transportation option is only 10 minutes from step-one, getting-on-the-bus, or coming-aboard to our destination. Need some help deciding which mode of transportation is best for you? Here’s a handy guide with details on all three options.

Itinerary for the Ultimate Jurassic World Experience at Universal Orlando Resort

safari hotel universal studios orlando

This article was originally published in January of 2022 and then underwent extensive updates and editing in September of 2023 to remain current and relevant.

If you’ve clicked into this blog, it seems you’re looking for that Ultimate Jurassic Park and Jurassic World experience at Universal Orlando Resort. Well, you’ve come to the right place. I, myself, am a  huge  Jurassic Park — and now Jurassic World — fan. I grew up wishing I had a pet dinosaur in my backyard and walked down the aisle at my wedding to the classic score. Not only am I a committed Jurassic Park fan but as a Virgo, I take great joy in planning my trips and creating the perfect way to experience the theme parks. I’m excited to bring you the ultimate Jurassic Park experience in Universal Orlando Resort .

WHERE TO STAY

Jurassic World kid's suite hotel room

If you have little Jurassic World fans or dinosaur fans, I HIGHLY recommend booking a  Jurassic World Kids’ Suite at Loews Royal Pacific Resort . These suites are, in my personal opinion, the COOLEST hotel rooms I’ve ever seen. The suites have a main room where adults can sleep and a conjoined room with a paddock door that opens up RIGHT into a room that looks like a scene straight out of Jurassic World. The kids even get to sleep in gyrosphere beds.

Staying at  Loews Royal Pacific Resort  allows you to really immerse yourself in the tropical scenery of your ultimate Jurassic World getaway. It feels as if you’ve stepped into a tropical oasis with the greenery and even a waterfall next to one of the restaurants near the pool. Another great benefit to staying at the hotel is being able to utilize Early Park Admission to get into the park up to an hour before it opens. Be amongst the first to ride Jurassic World VelociCoaster with this incredible perk. Plus you’ll get a Universal Express Unlimited pass, which lets you ride the rides with Express access, over and over again.

WHAT TO PACK

Mr. DNA Waist Bag - Universal Orlando Resort

Before making your way to the park, I recommend packing light clothing to keep you cool in the Florida sun. I like to stay in the theme of Jurassic Park and wear clothes to blend into the tropical surroundings. I highly recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting wet and bringing a light rain jacket or umbrella so you’re prepared for whatever you may encounter on your Jurassic adventure. If you’ve seen the films, you know what I mean…

CHECK LIST:

  • Themed Shirt
  • Shorts
  • Rain jacket or umbrella
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Small bag or fanny pack

Need more tips on what to pack for your trip to Universal Orlando Resort? Check out our complete guide here.

CHECKING IN | LOEWS ROYAL PACIFIC RESORT

Royal Pacific Pool

I recommend taking some time to head to the pool for some relaxation before a full day in the park and to keep immersing yourself in the tropical paradise vibe that Loews Royal Pacific Resort brings you. There’s even a little beach you can sit at if you prefer to just sit and take in the view of the lagoon.

For dinner, head over to  Jake’s American Bar . The homemade pretzel rods with tangy mustard and four cheese fondue are out of this world and I highly recommend them! I’m also a big salmon gal, so I usually go with the Sixty South Antarctic Seared Salmon. It comes with a rice blend, green beans, blistered tomato and a citrus butter sauce.

I also absolutely love  Orchid Court Lounge and Sushi Bar  for some incredible sushi and drinks. I’m a nigiri and sake lover myself.

PRO TIP:  If you get to the hotel a little early, you can always drop your bags off with luggage services and head straight to the parks.

HEAD TO JURASSIC PARK

Jurassic Park Arches

As you start your day at Loews Royal Pacific, you can grab a quick bite to eat at Tuk Tuk Market before taking the Water Taxi over to CityWalk . Once you’re at CityWalk, you’ll want to head toward Islands of Adventure and then make a right when you enter the park. Heading right is pretty crucial to the day as it will give you that ultimate Jurassic Park entrance. You can get to Jurassic Park by going right or left in Islands of Adventure, but I prefer right. I don’t know if it’s just me, but the music always starts to swell as I step through the archway. You can’t help but to hum along to the song.

TAKE A PHOTO WITH A SPINOSAURUS

Once you make it into that area, you’ll come across the first moment you’ll want to take a photo. To your right, you’ll find the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3 peeking out from the bushes.

RIDE JURASSIC WORLD VELOCICOASTER

Two women on VelociCoaster

Head to the all-new Jurassic World VelociCoaster . It’s the incredible new roller coaster that puts you right in the middle of a Raptor paddock. The ride’s backstory places you into Jurassic World before the arrival of the Indominus Rex (right before the first Jurassic World movie). Claire Dearing has been tasked with adding more teeth to the park…. so she’s had this incredible roller coaster built. And boy, is it thrilling! 10/10 for me. I even wrote a complete guide to this ride you should definitely  check out .

PLAY IN JURASSIC PARK DISCOVERY CENTER

A woman stands next to a dinosaur statue

As you exit VelociCoaster, you’ll make your way inside the Jurassic Park Discovery Center where you can take your time to explore some exclusive Jurassic World VelociCoaster merchandise and play around in this interactive play center. You can learn about dino DNA, take photos with some life size dinosaurs (my favorite dinosaur is in there), and maybe even catch a baby Velociraptor being hatched right inside the lab. This is such a great moment to stop and take in all that this area has to offer.

STOP BY BURGER DIGS/PIZZA PREDATORIA

A burger from Jurassic Park Burger Digs

If riding Jurassic World VelociCoaster made you work up an appetite by this point, you can grab some food over at Burger Digs . Or if burgers aren’t your thing, you can check out Pizza Predatoria on the way to your next destination.

PRO TIP: As you make your way up the stairs in Discovery Center, there will be another gift shop you can check out called  Dinostore  where you can actually even purchase some fossils.

SNACK AT NATURAL SELECTIONS

If you’d rather skip lunch and get some snacks instead, I’d recommend heading to Natural Selections near the entrance of Jurassic Park River Adventure for some quick bites like an absolutely delicious blue Dulce De Leche Churro, Guava Pastry (pictured) Papa Rellena, Beef Empanada (yum), Chicharrones, or you can also go with some fresh fruit like pineapple with tajin, watermelon with tajin or some simple grapes, orange or apple.

MEET VELOCIRAPTORS

A group of three pose with a raptor

Get up close and personal with Raptors at Raptor Encounter . Here you’ll meet a Raptor expert who will guide you through meeting one of the Raptors, including Blue from Jurassic World as well as a baby Raptor that comes out from time to time. You’ll have the opportunity to pose for a perfect picture and you might want a video, too. If you’re looking for a good holiday photo or even just a nice family photo, might I recommend one with a Velociraptor?

RIDE JURASSIC PARK RIVER ADVENTURE

River Adventure

After meeting a Velociraptor, it’s time to visit some of the other dinos on the island. This is also about the time you’ll want to prepare for a little bit of a splash. Jurassic Park River Adventure is one of my favorite rides in the park as it is a nice boat ride next to some incredible dinosaurs. But of course, it isn’t a theme park ride if it all goes according to plan. Toward the end of the ride, you’re bumped off course and end up meeting with some more Raptors before coming face to face with a Tyrannosaurus rex AND an 85 foot drop on Jurassic Park River Adventure. If you want to learn more about this ride, check out this  Complete Guide to Jurassic Park River Adventure.

PRO TIP:  If you want to dry off quickly, there are huge dryers you can purchase time in at the exit of the attraction  or  if you want to get more soaked, you can head to the side of the attraction for a huge splash zone.

PLAY IN CAMP JURASSIC

Pteranodon Flyers attraction

Across from Jurassic Park River Adventure is Camp Jurassic. This is a perfect place to take the little ones who have a lot of energy. It is a mult-level, prehistoric playground with dark caves, amber mines, climb dinosaur-capture nets, and swaying suspension bridges. Listen close for the roar of dinosaurs!

This is also home to an exclusive attraction at Universal Orlando Resort called  Pteranodon Flyers . This ride is perfect for the little ones as they soar high above Jurassic Park on a slow moving ride. The kids are buckled in and lifted up in the air with their feet dangling as they smoothly glide over Jurassic Park. For this two-seater ride, an adult must ride behind with a child so if you aren’t visiting with a child under 48 inches, you won’t be able to ride this attraction. But if you’re able to, it’s an absolute blast. My 4-year-old nephew absolutely loved taking turns with me and my sister as he took in the views of Jurassic Park.

PRO TIP:  If you do have little ones who aren’t tall enough for Jurassic World VelociCoaster or Jurassic Park River Adventure, I’d recommend doing your own version of child swap. One adult can take the little ones to Camp Jurassic while the other adults ride Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Jurassic Park River Adventure. It’s a great way to let the kids run around and let out some energy. (Each attraction does have their own child swaps if you prefer to stay together all day.)

CHECK OUT JURASSIC OUTFITTERS

Jurassic Outfitters in Universal's Islands of Adventure

Camp Jurassic is located across from the exit gift shop to Jurassic Park River Adventure,  Jurassic Outfitters  and while my nephew rode with my sister, I ran inside the store to buy him a little dinosaur plush that he absolutely loved. I also personally love the merchandise we offer in the stores. You can see a shirt we have for sale in some of the photos in this blog. I’m sporting the yellow “They Were Here First” tank top. I also have the cutest Jurassic World cup that I love to put my morning coffee in as I head to the parks. For more details about the merchandise, you can  check out this blog .

Another fun thing to do in this area is challenge your family to a little rock climbing with an amazing view of the splash down at Jurassic Park River Adventure.

DINNER AT THUNDER FALLS TERRACE

JP Thunder Falls

By this point, it might be close to a late lunch or early dinner and I highly recommend eating at  Thunder Falls Terrace . It is located right across from the splash on Jurassic Park River Adventure and I think it has some of the best food in the whole park. My go- to is an amazing rotisserie chicken salad with fresh green vegetables and citrus vinaigrette. The perfect amount of food to still have room for a Dulce De Leche Churro or Guava Pastry from Natural Selections after. They also have some unique offerings like a big turkey leg platter or Pernil.

TAKE A PHOTO WITH THE TREX

Two people pose with a dinosaur statue

Once you’re finished eating at Thunder Falls Terrace there’s an opportunity for another great family photo with the dinosaur looming from the bushes.

THE WATERING HOLE

A woman holds a drink

By this point, you’ve made it to the other side of Jurassic Park but instead of going home, I recommend heading back toward Jurassic World VelociCoaster for a second ride on the thrilling coaster and ending your day with a tropical drink from  The Watering Hole.  They even have an exclusive beer made for Jurassic Park called the Isla Nubar IPA. I personally love the Bird of Paradise drink that comes in a souvenir tiki cup. It’s a great way to end the day before grabbing some more merch on your way out for the day.

What are you most excited to experience in Jurassic Park? Let us know in the comments!

Wild Florida Drive-Thru Safari Park

safari hotel universal studios orlando

SAFARI PARK TICKET

Some road trips take you across the country, but ours will take you across continents.

Buckle up for your wildest car ride yet! Travel down gravel paths within our Drive-thru Safari Park and discover more than 100 native and exotic animals roaming freely. During your journey, you’ll have the opportunity to observe a variety of animals often only found around the world. Enjoy identifying species from as far away as the African savanna to others from the deciduous forests of North America, all from the comfort of your own car.

Expanding across 85 acres of untouched scenic landscapes, our wildlife and safari park presents a unique opportunity to bring you up close and personal with wild animals such as giraffes, zebra, eland antelope, scimitar oryx, American bison, mouflon sheep, and more! As you travel down our two-mile “unbeaten path,” you and your family can enjoy an exploration just feet away from animals you normally only see on TV.

But the fun you’ll have isn’t confined to your car. Inside our drive-through wildlife park, you can meet, greet and feed giraffes on our elevated giraffe feeding platform. (Talk about the perfect Facebook profile picture!).

After you’ve had your “four-wheel-fun” inside our drive-through animal park, stretch those legs inside our Gator Park. Admission to our Gator Park is included in the price of our Drive-thru Safari Park tickets and allows your family to view more than 200 additional animals, as well as enjoy a variety of educational animal shows.

Meet Crusher, our biggest American alligator (weighing just over 1,000 pounds). During the Crusher Show, you’ll learn more about American alligators and how Crusher stands out from the congregation. Watch a hands-on demonstration with some of our favorite Wild Florida residents during our Exotic Animal Show. And witness the power and speed of the American alligator during our Gator Feeding Show as you learn how strong their bite is along with how high they can jump out of the water.

Whether you’re a Florida resident or just visiting the Sunshine State, our wildlife safari park will give everyone in your family the opportunity to explore their wild side.

Universal Orlando water taxis: This complimentary transportation is one of Universal’s best-kept secrets

Casie Shimansky | October 15, 2018 October 15, 2018

When planning a trip to Universal Orlando, one of the main concerns is, “How do I get around?” Universal actually makes this a breeze by offering quite a few different methods to explore.

One of our favorite ways to head out for the day is the resort’s water-taxi service that brings guests from its on-site hotels ( Sapphire Falls Resort , Royal Pacific Resort , Hard Rock Hotel , and Portofino Bay Hotel ) to a central loading dock at CityWalk and back again.  Each of the venues has a dedicated taxi that floats along on their specific route (so no extra stop for the other hotels!).

What you need to know

Here are some basic facts for you:

  • The water taxis start 30 minutes before Early Park Admission
  • They run every 15 minutes until 2:30 am, 365 days a year
  • Each leg of your expedition takes anywhere from five to 15 minutes
  • They are free to every guest who visits Universal Orlando!

Let’s repeat that last one: Universal Orlando’s water taxis are free to every guest who visits. Day guests, that means you, too – so, what are you waiting for? Hop on to one of the water taxis and experience a bit more of the Universe. This is encouraged by Universal, as it wants you to experience its on-site resorts with the hope that you’ll book your next stay right there on property.

Do you need a reason to go to one of the on-site hotels?  How about  Strong Water Tavern at Sapphire Falls,  Orchid Court Lounge and Sushi Bar at Royal Pacific, The Palm at Hard Rock, or  Thirsty Fish at Portofino Bay?  Don’t forget to check out (though not swim in, since only on-site guests are able to do so) each hotel’s incredible pool – or, in Portofino’s case,  pools – and feel out each unique atmosphere before planning your next vacation.

Water taxi tips

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0AE4sEcCow

During the very late evening hours, the water-taxi captains will begin to ask for room keys, simply to keep off any revelers who may have wandered down to the docks from the CityWalk nightclubs.  Additionally, if you are looking to hop between on-site hotels, we recommend using Universal Orlando’s shuttle buses, as it usually is a quicker journey.

And here’s a good one: w hile the water taxis are a great service, did you know that you can easily walk from the parks and CityWalk over to any one of the on-site properties?  If you have never done this before, we strongly recommend it. The path runs adjacent to the waterway, is filled with lush landscaping, and is really an adventure in its own right. If you need a reason to add to your step count for the day, this is the path for you!

In fact – and surprisingly – it can actually take longer to wait for, board, and ride the water taxis from CityWalk to Royal Pacific or Hard Rock than it does just to walk (though if you time it perfectly, the boat is still faster).  It’s about a seven-minute walk from Royal Pacific to the CityWalk entrance by Margaritaville ; it’s only about a five-minute walk from Hard Rock over to the gates at Universal Studios Florida ; and it’s about a 15-minute walk from either Portofino Bay or Sapphire Falls to the front gates.

From the water taxis and walkways to on-site shuttles, there’s no mistaking that Universal makes it easy for its guests to navigate and explore with ultimate convenience.
