Nestled in Egypt's Theban hills west of the Nile River, near today's Luxor, stands the Valley of the Kings – where, between the 16th and 11th centuries BC, complexes of tombs were cut out of the rock to house the remains of the Pharaohs and other nobles of Egypt's New Kingdom, and prepare them for the afterlife. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains more than 60 identified tombs and chambers. While many were once filled with treasures, most have been plundered through the ages… with the exception of that of the famous tomb of Tutankhamun, discovered intact in the 1920s, whose artifacts and remains have been removed and preserved. Explorers and intrepid travellers alike have been touring  Egypt  for centuries – the centrepiece of which was a classical cruise down the  Nile  aboard  a  s team ship or exclusive sailboat . Major cities such as Luxor and Aswan are home to beautiful Victorian-style palaces built in the 19 th  century that bring a level of opulence and grandeur reminiscent of the golden-age of expedition travel.

There are also a number of traditional 19 th  century riverboats (known as dahabiyas) that take just 14-20 guests and offer a personal and intimate experience.  Most  Nile  cruises are aboard larger vessels with   air-conditioned rooms, restaurants ,  sun decks and  rooftop pools . Whilst on board guests enjoy daily guided excursions to visit the sites along the Nile, mainly between  Luxor  and  Aswan .

The best way to discover  Egypt ’s tombs and temples is by cruise boat. The  Nile   River  is the life-blood of the country and its banks are an oasis within a sea of desert landscape. The river has been the centre of life within Egypt for millennia and as a result most of the country’s fascinating cities, temples and ancient ruins are within just a few kilometres of its banks. You will also see picturesque villages, local farmers on donkeys and buffalo coming down to the water to drink. The most popular section to cruise is between  Luxor  and  Aswan . Cruises between these two cities can range from between 2 to 5 nights.   

How long is a Nile River Cruise?

Most Nile cruise itineraries operate between  Luxor  and  Aswan  and range from between 2 to 5 nights. For avid cruise enthusiasts there are a handful of longer cruises between  Cairo  and  Aswan  of up to 14 nights in length.   

When is the best time to visit Egypt?

Egypt is best explored during the cooler months from October to April, however you can still travel during the summer season (May to September) but temperatures are at their highes t – often well over 35 degrees Celsius . The Christmas/New Year period is particularly busy and this is also the most  expensive time of year to travel (booked well in advance). The best time of year to visit is from mid-to-late January through to March when the days are usually sunny, warm and crowd numbers are a little down on their peak. 

Why should I visit Egypt? 

Egypt  is a destination in itself; offering travellers a mouth-watering combination of ancient history, diverse cultures, awe-inspiring architectural wonders and relaxing river cruising.  This  exotic  destination  is also perfect for sun-seekers with warm, dry days for most of the year.  The scenery is unique, with the mighty  Nile   River  creating swathes of lush greenery amid vast expanses of stark desert.  

What is the climate in Egypt? 

Cairo  has a milder climate than the southern part of  Egypt ; however temperatures between May-Oct may reach 30°-36°C. The rest of the year is warm to mild, and it can get quite cold on winter nights. Although  fairly  hot all year round,  Luxor  and  Aswan  experience their most extreme temperatures from June-August (30°-45°C). Nights are cool in winter and hot in summer (24°-26°C).  

What can I combine Egypt with? 

Egypt is best combined with neighbouring Jordan and Israel. Both countries compliment a visit to Egypt with further historic Middle-Eastern sights such as Petra, Bethlehem and Jerash. A little further afield, the United Arab Emirates and Oman are other popular destinations to visit. Alternatively Egypt can be combined with a safari in Tanzania – perfect during the months of December to March.

How to get to Egypt? 

There are regular flights between Egypt’s capital Cairo and the Middle East as well as many major European cities. The country’s chief carrier – Egypt Air – also fly to North American cities including New York and Toronto. Egypt Air also offer internal connecting flights to major hubs including Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel.

US  – There are plenty of options to choose from when travelling between North America and Egypt. Egypt Air offer direct flights to Cairo from both Washington DC and New York. Alternatively European airlines to consider with just one stopover include British Airways, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.

Europe  – Egypt is easily reached with direct flights between Cairo and almost every European airlines major carrier. Alternatively Egypt Air fly to over 20 cities across Europe.

• Cancellation after confirmation with payment before 30 days of the commencement of the tour: 10% of the value of the tour package.
• Canceling the tour 30 to 20 days before commencement of the tour: 25% of the value of the package
• Canceling 19-15 days before commencing the tour: 50% of the tour cost
• Canceling 14-11 days before commencement of the tour: 75% of the tour cost
• Canceling before 10 days or less before the tour date: No refund for the tour

DAY 1 – Your Egypt and Kenya Safari Tour Begins

When you arrive in Cairo for the start of your Egypt and Kenya Safari tour we will have a company representative and a driver waiting for you at the airport, regardless of what time your plane lands. They will assist you with your luggage and then drive you to the luxury hotel where you will be staying while you are here with us in Cairo.

After you have checked in, your tour manager will discuss your itinerary with you and answer any questions you might have. He will also confirm pick up a pick up time for the next day, and then you will be left in peace to enjoy the rest of the day as you wish.

DAY 2 – Giza Pyramids and Cairo Sightseeing Tour

Day 2 of your Egypt and Kenya Safari tour is going to be a busy one, so be sure to take full advantage of your hotel’s generous breakfast layout. Shortly after you have enjoyed your breakfast, your guide and driver will fetch you and then you will be taken to see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple, all of which are at the same historical site.

After visiting and exploring these amazing monuments which have existed for thousands of years, you will be taken for a nice lunch at a good local restaurant, and from there you will make your way to the world-famous Egyptian Museum where you can see thousands of ancient artifacts, including those which were recovered from the tomb of King Tutankhamen.

Following your visit to the museum, you will be taken to an area known as Coptic Cairo where you will visit the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar where traders have been trading and selling their wares ever since the 14th century.

Finally, after a long and thoroughly enjoyable day, our guide and driver will return you to your hotel, and then the remainder of the day and evening will be yours to enjoy as you wish.

DAY 3 – Flight to Luxor, Nile Cruise Embarkation and East Bank Tour

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel and then at the agreed time, our tour representative and a driver will collect you from the hotel, and then transfer you to the airport where you will board a flight to Luxor. When you arrive in Luxor, one of our Luxor-based tour managers will once again meet you, and then you will be driven to the port area where you will be boarding a 5-Star river cruise ship for your spectacular Nile River cruise.

Shortly after boarding the ship, you will be served your first on-board lunch, and then you will disembark along with a small group of passengers, and you will be taken to visit Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. Both of these sites are among the most treasured and most visited ancient sites in all of Egypt so you can be sure that this is one afternoon in your life which you will almost certainly never forget.

After you have finished exploring these two incredible sites, you and your group will be escorted back to the ship where you will then having some time to relax and freshen up before sitting down to a fine dinner on the water at Luxor where you will also be spending the night on board the cruise liner.

DAY 4 – Luxor West Bank Tour and Cruise to Edfu

Today, once you have finished enjoying your breakfast on the boat, you will head off to see three of the most treasured historical sites located on Luxor’s West Bank. First, you will be taken to see the Valley of Kings, an ancient sprawling necropolis which once served as the final resting place for several of Ancient Egypt’s rulers, and also for other royals and privileged nobles.

To date, more than 60 tombs have been discovered in necropolis, including the tomb of King Tutankhamen which was discovered in the early 20th century by Howard Carter. Today, nearly all of the artifacts that were recovered from his still intact tomb are on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, but his mummy is carefully preserved and displayed inside his tomb.

A special ticket is required in order to enter the tomb, and only a very limited number of tickets are issued each day. Because tour operators are not allowed to buy tickets on behalf of their clients, and because all tickets are usually sold out very early, package tours, including this Egypt and Kenya Safari tour do not include entry to Tutankhamen’s tomb.

After exploring Valley of the Kings, you will then be taken to visit and explore another magnificent ancient site, the mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. This vast temple which was carved into the surrounding mountainside is also one of the most impressive and most visited ancient monuments in the country, so be prepared to be mesmerized.

Next up will be a brief but thoroughly enjoy visit to the Colossi of Memnon, two giant statues with a truly fascination history. After this site, you will head back to the ship, and shortly after everyone has boarded, lunch will be served while it is sailing to Edfu.

Enjoy an afternoon of blissful relaxation, then sit down and enjoy another wonderful 5-Star dinner on the quite waters of the Nile at Edfu where you will be spending this night of your Egypt and Kenya Safari tour.

DAY 5 – Edfu and Kom Ombo Excursions, and Cruise to Aswan

Wake up in a world of luxury and tranquility and enjoy another fine breakfast on the water. Shortly after breakfast, you and the other members of your group will disembark, and you will then be taken to visit and explore the Temple of Horus. This ancient temple never fails to astonish visitors due to its unbelievable state of preservation.

After the Romans abandoned this temple, the desert sands slowly but surely engulfed it, and for more than 2,000 years it remained completed buried beneath the sand. Thanks to Mother Nature, it is today the world’s best-preserved Ptolemaic Temple ever discovered.

Following your visit to the Temple of Horus, you will head back to your luxury cruise ship, and it will then navigate its way to Kom Ombo where you will be taken on another unforgettable excursion, this time to the Temple of Sobek.

While the Temple of Sobek may appear to be a single temple, it is in fact two identical temples, with one being a mirror image of the other. This complex was built to honor two gods, Sobek the crocodile god, and Horus the falcon-headed god. Because of this, great care was taken in order to ensure that neither of these two gods would feel as though one was favored more than the other.

After your visit to this remarkable site, you will once again return to the ship, and it will then begin sailing to Aswan. Enjoy a delicious lunch on board; a free afternoon to enjoy as you wish; another excellent dinner, and another wonderful night’s rest in your cabin on the water at Aswan.

DAY 6 – Aswan Sightseeing and Leisure Time

Start the 6th day of your Egypt and Kenya Safari tours with another hearty breakfast, and then it will be time for you to visit two of the best historical sites in Aswan. First, enjoy a visit to the ancient stone quarries to see the Unfinished Obelisk, the biggest such statue ever discovered. It is believed that this giant obelisk would eventually have been transported to the Karnak Temple complex in Luxor, but when a major crack appeared in the statue while it was being made, the project was abandoned.

Next, you will be taken to see the splendid Temple of Philae. The temple originally stood on a small Island in the Nile River, in an area which now lies below the water of Lake Nasser, and was considered to be one of the most religiously significant places in all of Egypt.

Fortunately, this magnificent ancient temple was meticulously dismantled and then rebuilt on higher ground. If this had not been done, Philae Temple would have vanished beneath the waters of Lake Nasser following the completion of the Aswan High Dam.

Finally, you will head back to the cruise ship in time for another delectable lunch. Enjoy the remainder of the day relaxing and enjoying the vessel’s many amenities, and spend another blissful night in your cabin, this time on the water at Aswan

DAY 7 – Flight to Cairo and Free Time

Enjoy another superb breakfast on the cruise ship at in Aswan, and then it will be time for you to check-out and disembark. When you leave the vessel, one of our tour representatives will be there to escort you to Aswan Airport where you will then board a flight back to Cairo.

On arrival in Cairo, you will again be met at the airport; you will be assisted in every way possible, and you will be transferred to the 5-Star hotel where you will be spending the night. There are no outings or tours scheduled for this day, so once you have checked in and a pick up time for tomorrow has been confirmed with you, you will have the remainder of the day for yourself.

DAY 8 – Flight to Nairobi in Kenya

Wake up and enjoy a good hotel breakfast, and then at the appropriate time one of our tour managers and one of our drivers will fetch you from the hotel, and they will take you to the airport so that you can board your flight to Kenya.

On arrival at the airport in Nairobi, one of our tour representatives will be standing by to meet and greet you, and to escort you to the luxury resort hotel where you will be staying for the night. Once you reach the hotel, you will be assisted with check-in, and then our tour representative will confirm a pick-up time for the next day. After this, you will have the remainder of the day to yourself.

DAY 9 – Amboseli National Park

After you have had time to enjoy your 5-Star hotel breakfast, you will be picked up, and then you will be driven to the beautiful Amboseli National Park which is located on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This will almost certainly prove to be a thoroughly enjoyable drive, given that the area is very well known for its sizable elephant population. The resort where you will be staying is well and truly fantastic, and as an added bonus, you are likely to witness a sunset which is truly beyond words.

DAY 10 – Day of Leisure at Amboseli National Park

The Amboseli National Park is a place of incredibly natural beauty, and it would be a great shame if you were in the midst of all this beauty without having any time to actually admire it and appreciate it. For this reason, after you have finished enjoying your breakfast, you will have almost the entire day to yourself so that you can relax in the sunshine. Your hotel has all the amenities you would expect at a luxury resort and you are welcome to use them, although we strongly recommend going for a nice walk in nature.

DAY 11 – Scenic Drive to Lake Elementaita via Nairobi

Shortly after you have had your breakfast, you will check-out and your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel, and then your will enjoy a wonderfully scenic drive to Lake Elementaita. On your way there, you will stop in Nairobi for some lunch and some free time before continuing on your way. In the later part of the afternoon, you will arrive at Lake Elementaita and you will check-in at the wonderful Lake Elementaita Serena Camp where you will be staying for this night of your Egypt and Kenya tour.

DAY 12 – Game Viewing at Lake Nakuru National Park

Enjoy a good breakfast at your hotel at Lake Elementaita, and then your guide and driver will drive you to the absolutely wonderful Lake Nakuru National Park which is famous for its flamingos. You will be heading into the very heart of Kenya’s wildlife population so you can expect to see lots of wild animals. On arrival at the park, you will check in at the beautiful Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, and then you will enjoy some game view until lunch.

Enjoy a lovely leisurely lunch, and then you will head out for even more game viewing which will generally last until just before dinner. Enjoy another good night’s rest in the African wilderness.

DAY 13 – Maasai Mara National Park

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, followed by some free time for yourself, and then around mid-morning you will check-out from the lodge, and you will enjoy some more game watching at Lake Nakuru before beginning the journey to the country’s famous Maasai National Park. This is by far Kenya’s most famous and most visited national park, and it is home to an abundance of wildlife, including Africa’s Big 5 and more than 450 different bird species. If you visit at around June, you are also likely to see something which is truly unforgettable: the annual migration of millions of gazelles; wildebeests, and zebras.

You will arrive at the park in the late afternoon and you immediately be taken to check in at the wonderful Mara Serena Safari Lodge where you will be spending this night of your Egypt and Kenya tour.

DAY 14 – Game Viewing Drives

Today you will wake up quite early and you will be served some fresh muffins and coffee before heading out for an early morning game viewing drive. These drives only include a small group of people so they can be tailored to meet your group’s preferences. For example, if you happen to come across a lioness hunting prey, your driver and guide will gladly stop the vehicle so that you can witness the hunt.

At around mid-morning, you will then be driven back to the lodge where you will be served a late brunch, after which you will have some free time for yourself. Enjoy a good lunch and some more free time in the afternoon, with another game viewing drive in the late afternoon. When you reach the end of the drive, you will stop to watch nightfall descending over the Maasai Mara while enjoying a drink, and then you will return to your lodge for the last night of your Egypt and Kenya tour.

DAY 15 – Egypt and Kenya Safari Tour Ends and Final Departure

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever, and the same applies to your magical 15 Day Egypt and Kenya Safari tours. At the time that was agreed with you yesterday, you will be met at the resort again; you will be assisted with check-out if need be, and then our tour representative will escort you back to Nairobi so that you can be at the airport in time for your flight back home.

A-list guests have been traveling from NYC to Egypt, Page Six has noticed on social media, for the wedding of Bilt Rewards founder Ankur Jain and Erika Hammond, the creator of Knockout at Equinox.

“Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary, Fox 5 anchor Bianca Peters, Equinox executive chairman Harvey Spevak, developer Mitch Moinian and “The Points Guy” Brian Kelly are among the guests, we hear, who were on a safari this week with the couple leading up to the big day in Cairo, Egypt.

An attendee told Page Six “It’s been a truly phenomenal affair. This is going to be the wedding of the year . . . We can’t wait to get to Cairo and see what else Ankur and Erika have planned.”

A source also told us, “The wedding is at a secret location in Cairo — and a few guests went on safari with Ankur and Erika before the big day later this week.”

Peters posted safari pics with the caption, “The most incredible pre wedding festivities ever,” while O’Leary posted images of himself in shorts and a blazer look — alongside his wife, Linda O’Leary — with the caption, “I’m sure we will win the mood board award tonight.”

Points Guy Kelly posted pics of lions, snakes and other animals, while Jain posted a video of the mogul and his group getting off a private plane and heading on their safari adventure together with the caption, “six days until our wedding.”

A wedding photographer also posted a “behind-the-scenes” video with images of the bride-to-be in a bikini, as well as other fun shots from the trip.

Also this week, Forbes put the Bilt tycoon, 34, on its cover and wrote, “With support from American Express’ longtime CEO Ken Chenault, the founder of fintech Bilt Rewards has become a billionaire creating a membership rewards program for house and apartment renters across the country.”

A Billionaire Tech CEO Is Throwing the Most Epic Wedding Ever in Egypt —And He Nearly Missed It! (Exclusive)

Billionaire tech CEO Ankur Jain and his bride, fitness guru Erika Hammond, got stranded in South Africa after their charter flight couldn't get a permit

Billionaire tech CEO Ankur Jain and Erika Hammond nearly missed their own epic wedding celebration in Egypt!

The founder and CEO of Bilt Rewards, 34, and his bride, 32, who is a former WWE wrestler and creator of Equinox’s Knockout class, planned to kick off their four-day extravagant wedding in Cairo with a welcome party at the Muhammed Ali Palace — but they didn't make it to the celebration until 2:30AM thanks to a complication with their chartered plane.

Jain tells PEOPLE that the flight fiasco began when the couple and their friends were preparing to jet off to Egypt from South Africa where they had been on safari. “Everything was smooth. All of the checked bags were loaded into the vans ready to go when we get a phone call that our Egypt Air flight had been turned away by the South African government,” says Jain. 

Despite weeks of negotiations and planning in order to get approval for an overnight departure, the charter flight that they had booked ultimately wasn’t able to pick the group up in South Africa due to a permit issue.

The news sent the bride and groom to-be “scrambling” as they tried to figure out what to do next. Jain and Hammond worked all evening to try to figure out a way to make it in time for their wedding celebration party, and even considered booking a commercial flight to another city in South Africa to get to Dubai and then to Cairo. 

“We were gonna miss for sure at this point, the whole opening day,” Jain recalls. “We were even worried about making the second day and you can imagine, we planned this for a year. Erika was in decent spirits… I was devastated.”

It wasn’t until 8 a.m. the next day that they finally received a pdf with the transport authority’s signature on the permit allowing them to take off. However, with the new schedule, they wouldn’t arrive in Cairo until 11:00PM — three hours after their opening party was scheduled to begin.

“We sent a message to the group like ‘Hey, we’re not going to be able to make the party tonight… You guys go have fun. We’ll see you tomorrow,’ ” Jain says. “And right away, our friends were amazing."

“Everybody rallied on that group chat and said, ‘Nope, we’ll push the party, we’ll stay up…. we’re going to keep the party going and you guys come when you land, and we’re going to celebrate together,’ ” he continues.

However, that still wasn't the end of their complications. During a stop in Nairobi to refuel, the ground crew didn't show up for two hours. By then, their flight schedule was pushed back even further and they weren't expected to land in Cairo until nearly 2:00AM.

Still, Jain says their guests in Cairo happily waited until they arrived. Despite the 12 hour journey, the wedding guests on board with the bride and groom hyped themselves up by playing music as they all changed and got ready for the party while up in the air. They even did an impromptu “fashion show” while Hammond's Bridal Glam Team Dawn artists Kelly Dawn did her makeup while Jackie Seabrooke did her hair at the back of the plane. 

“While we were on our way, everyone in Cairo was at the bar together, sending us photos, rallying us to get there," says Jain, adding that Lance Bass kept the dance party going until their arrival.

They finally made their grand entrance at around 2:40AM. in the morning and the entire wedding party stayed up all night celebrating as a DJ played music while belly dancers and fire dancers performed. 

Jain tells PEOPLE that despite the “chaotic” start, they eventually were able to have fun the way they planned. “We partied until 5:00AM having just the best opening night,” he says.

The pair, who first met when Jain started working out at Rumble Boxing where Hammond — who is on the founding team of the celeb-loved gym, was an instructor at the time — will tie the knot in a private ceremony in Cairo over the weekend.

“There's something so special about being in a completely different world environment. So we decided, our wedding is about having a moment together to celebrate the new beginning, having a really special party with our friends somewhere where you're in a different world,” says Jain.

Adds Hammond: “It’s a once in a lifetime experience!”
