Further things to consider when writing cancellation letters to schools

Cancellation Letters

Cancellation letters are letters you write to a service provider, company or institution, informing them that you are dissatisfied with their product, service, or membership and that you wish to discontinue it. Cancellation letters can be written for several things such as canceling an insurance policy, a cable service, rental agreement, a magazine subscription, a bank account, order, credit, etc. The reason why people issue cancellation letters is mainly due to unsatisfactory or poor performance, not meeting the expectations, and at times unavailability of funds. Cancellation letters are written in a clear and a concise manner. Go straight to the point and suggest actions you expect to be taken. Clearly state what you are canceling and explain you reason for it. Where necessary, include the details of what you are canceling, for example, account details. Mention that you wish to receive confirmation that the cancellation was effected. State clear steps that you would take if cancellation is not put into effect within the specified notice period. End the letter on a positive tone and request the reader to acknowledge receipt. Send the letter well in advance to give enough notice to the reader.

Letters to Schools

Letters to schools are letters written to institutions designed to provide learning environment and spaces to pupils and students. There are many times when you may feel the need to write to a school administration. Maybe you want to recommend a student or employee or want to apply for an academic program. Perhaps your child has a disability, and you want to make sure that he/she is receiving special education services. Whatever the issue, putting your thoughts in writing avoids confusion since it provides you and the recipient with a record of your request. It is, therefore, crucial to keep a copy of any letter you send. All letters to schools must use the standard business letter style. Start your letter with the proper address and salutation. Introduce yourself and explain the reason for your letter clearly and concisely. Depending on the content of your letter, provide any documentation that gives the recipient reference to the case or clarifies your concerns. Keep the tone polite, respectful, and professional. Close by thanking the recipient for his/her time and with a note of anticipation of positive feedback. Sign off and proofread the final draft before sending it.

How To Write A School Trip Letter To Parents

But, after you have gained approval from the necessary channels, there comes a time when you must start promoting your school trip to your students and their parents – after all, planning can only go so far without their buy in.

The most common way to spread word about an upcoming trip is to send a letter to parents. But what should you include, and how much information is too much?

To help, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide of how to write a school trip letter to parents. Take a look below for inspiration, including a downloadable school trip letter template.

What To Include In Your Letter

1. what are the benefits of a school trip.

The main aim of your letter should be to convey how enriching a school trip can be for any student.

School trips are a fantastic way for students to learn – seeing new sights and experiencing unfamiliar cultures can be a great way to stimulate the brain, while creating a memorable case study to aid their learning.

In your letter you could make parents aware of exactly how beneficial and enriching a school trip can be for students. This will help to build a case for parents to see the how a trip will aid their child in the long term.

2. The trip logistics

As with any investment, parents will want to know precisely where their money will be spent before making a decision on whether to send their child on a school trip.

To put parents’ minds at ease, you  can inform them of the logistics of the trip. Make sure to include the trip’s price , dates , what the deposit will be , how many places there are , when a response is needed by , and a general outline of what the trip will include (if possible). Make sure to include which subjects or modules the school trip will be beneficial towards.

A slip  can be also provided along the bottom of the letter which can be filled out by parents to secure their child’s place. This will help to garner how many students would like to attend the trip.

3. Your school trip provider

Finally, when writing your letter, you should make an effort to introduce the school trip  provider  you have chosen. This will allow peace of mind for parents wishing to find out more about their child’s school trip.

When introducing your school trip organiser, it is often beneficial to mention their point of difference. What was it that made you choose them? Put their minds at rest by confirming that the company has all the  accreditations to keep their child and their money safe.  Your school trip organiser should be able to help you with this.

It will ensure parents are fully informed before committing, helping them plan and reduce the number of dropouts moving forward.

Lastly, you need to explain to parents all the steps they need to take if they want to sign up their children on your school trip. In most cases, the inscription comes along with the first deposit and a permission form. We recommend adding the permission slip at the end of the letter to make it as accessible as possible for them.

Also, you should include the details of when the parents’ evening or info session will be arranged. In addition, if the school has any social media accounts, you could share updates and additional information.

In conclusion, a well-written letter to parents about your school trip abroad can help ensure that parents are fully informed about the trip details so they can decide to sign their children up. Using a template and following the guidelines we provided above can save time and promote the trip effectively, turning your planning and preparation into a successful and valuable learning experience for your students.

Letter to Camp Families

by Ariella Rogge on May 06

Egreenberg 56 .jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Dear Friends,

It is with great sorrow that we are writing to let you know that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 summer camp season of Big Spring, High Trails, and Sanborn Junior.

Coming to this decision has been incredibly challenging for our year-round staff and for our small business, and we know that it is a sad day for you as well. We have been so grateful for your patience as we all monitored and evaluated the information about the virus and hoped for a better outcome. We know that this is the best decision for the well-being of our campers, our staff, and our camp families.

The latest guidelines from the federal government, the CDC, and our own state government have made it clear that to bring campers and staff from multiple places into a camp community based on social interaction and group living would create an environment so regulated that it would not resemble previous summers at Big Spring and High Trails. Our primary objective has always been to create a community of the safest environment possible and, with many factors still unknown about COVID-19, we do not see a path forward for camp this summer.

Sanborn Camps has always been a place of expanded freedom where children can be children, sing, laugh and explore the natural world together. Our community is based on hugs, pats on the back, sitting on a friend’s bed, and helping each other saddle a horse or make it to the top of a mountain. The very essence of our program is incompatible with the limited group sizes and strict form of social distancing which are, for the next few months, the primary methods of slowing the spread of the virus.

We know your camper/s have been asking you questions about camp over the last few weeks. In an attempt to speak directly to some of the new questions campers might have regarding the cancellation, the Sanborn directors have created video messages for campers to help explain the impacts of social distancing on our community and camp programs.

We will be back in 2021! In the meantime, our directors are working on a variety of ways to stay engaged with your campers over the summer through interactive online and social media events. We will continue to serve our mission and our camp families in ways that fit with the realities of our current situation. We will be working throughout the year to evaluate and improve all of our programs so that the Sanborn experience will be better than ever in the summer of 2021.

We will reach out individually to campers who would have been Junior Counselors or Outbackers this summer and will invite them to return in these leadership roles during the summer of 2021. We also will extend scholarship commitments made by the Sanborn Scholarship Committee into next summer. We will open enrollment for 2021 in the late summer and spaces will be protected for all of our 2020 camp families.

Knowing that many people have suddenly found themselves in difficult financial positions, we have modified our deposit refund policy. Please follow this link to view our policy and let us know your preferences on the form which is now available through your CampInTouch account .

You are constantly in our thoughts and we cannot thank you enough for your support and commitment during these difficult times.

Sincerely, Mike MacDonald

‘This is unacceptable’: FDOE gives Duval schools 5 days to respond to concerns over student safety issues

Dcps says it is improving training, misconduct reporting as douglas anderson investigation continues.

Anne Maxwell , I-TEAM and general assignment reporter

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) sent a letter to Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) on Thursday expressing concerns over what it calls a failure of school leaders to respond to student safety issues.

“It is clear more work needs to be done in your district,” FDOE Commissioner Manny Diaz wrote in a letter to the district. “Your failure to address these pressing concerns reflects a lack of prioritization for the well-being of students, parents and the educators who rely on you to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.”

This comes as an investigation into Duval County Schools continues to look at the district’s handling of complaints following the arrest of a longtime teacher at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.

Last month, the DCPS superintendent apologized for leaving another teacher in the classroom for weeks after he was arrested in Orlando .

“This is unacceptable,” Diaz wrote about the incident involving teacher Chris Allen-Black, who was arrested in February and accused of exposing himself in a Disney hotel room in view of the resort pool. Allen-Black wasn’t removed from the classroom until April 11. Parents of students in his classes were notified of his arrest and removal on April 17.

Allen-Black was the fifth teacher to be removed from the classroom at the school since 2023 amid different investigations.

Diaz said in April 2023, DCPS reported 73 cases to the FDOE Office of Professional Practices Services because those cases, which dated back as far as 2020, were not previously reported to the department.

Duval County School Board members said they are taking steps to strengthen the processes for reporting misconduct.

During the DCPS board meeting Wednesday, Interim Superintendent Dr. Dana Kriznar told people in attendance improvements are being made to stop inappropriate student-teacher relationships.

“We’re working on policy and procedure recommendations initiated by the board including strengthening procedures to ensure employees alleged to have committed certain types of misconduct are immediately removed from the classroom. That’s a policy that they initiated last week,” said Dr. Kriznar.

Some of those procedures include new training guidelines and policies and procedures emphasizing that allegations of misconduct must be reported. Students are also being taught about ways to recognize and report sexual harassment or misconduct.

District officials are hoping staffing improvements will make it easier to conduct investigations quickly. The district’s reporting system for cases being sent to the FDOE also switched from a mailing system to digital in the hopes of speeding up the process.

After more than a year, the investigation into misconduct by Douglas Anderson music teacher Jeffrey Clayton is still ongoing. He pleaded guilty to crimes involving a student in April.

He will be sentenced in June and seven people are expected to give impact statements.

A Ft. Lauderdale-based firm is investigating misconduct allegations in Duval County Schools. City of Jacksonville Office of General Counsel Deputy General Counsel Jon Phillips said the investigations will take months to complete.

“The goal of this investigation is not only to just get to the bottom of what happened, it’s also to fix the problems,” said Phillips.

But, as the investigation takes more and more time, frustration at district school offices is growing.

“We’ve waited long enough,” said Duval County School Board member Dr. Kelly Coker.

Madison Bergmann, teacher busted for ‘making out’ with 11-year-old, allegedly moved his desk so she could rub his legs during class

M adison Bergmann, the Wisconsin teacher busted for allegedly “making out” with an 11-year-old in her classroom, allegedly moved the victim’s desk next to hers so that she could touch him during class without the other students seeing.

“My daughter thought he was a problem kid,” another student’s mom told The Post. “She said that his desk got moved next to [Bergmann’s] a couple of months ago, and she just assumed that he was in trouble.

“When it was time for lunch, she’d ask him to stay after class,” the mom continued, “so that just fed into the idea that he was constantly getting into trouble.”

The alleged victim told cops a similar story.

According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in St. Croix District Court, the fifth grader told sex crime investigators that Bergmann would rub his thigh and calves during independent reading time.

Due to the strategic placement of his desk in her classroom at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, “he did not believe any of the other kids would see it happening,” the complaint alleged.

The boy also confirmed to police that Bergmann would have him stay after class. He claimed that Bergmann kissed him several times in her classroom, either after school or while the other students were at lunch.

Bergmann, 24, is charged with first-degree child sexual assault of a child under age 13.

The boy’s family had befriended Bergmann, even going with her on a ski trip to Afton Alps, a nearby resort. Bergmann told authorities she received the boy’s number during that weekend.

Last week, the boy’s mother overheard a troubling phone call and alerted the boy’s father. According to the complaint, the father confiscated the boy’s phone and read his text messages.

In one text, according to the complaint, Bergmann told the boy that she “wanted to just grab your face and push you to the floor and make out with you.” In another text, she allegedly told him that, “I almost kissed you when you were on the ground today, but I got distracted by your stomach.”

The boy’s enraged father printed out the texts and took them to the school. Authorities immediately opened an investigation.

Cops searched Bergmann’s backpack and allegedly found a folder with the victim’s name on it. Inside were several handwritten letters.

“In her notes she tells him that she loves him, wants to kiss him, he turns her on, and that she is obsessed with him,” the complaint says.

Bergmann is free on a $25,000 bond. She has disabled her social media and is not allowed on school property or at school events. It’s unclear if she has yet hired an attorney authorized to speak on her behalf.

Additionally, Bergmann, who was engaged to be married to Sam Hickman,  will no longer be walking down the aisle in July .

“It’s been indefinitely postponed,” a pal of her fiance told The Post Saturday.

“And it probably won’t happen. He is really upset and heartbroken. He’s embarrassed and pissed. He didn’t deserve this. Everyone is pissed.”

Judge Postpones Start of Trump Documents Trial Without New Date

Judge Aileen Cannon had previously made clear that the trial would not start as scheduled this month but she declined to set a new timetable, saying many pretrial issues still have to be resolved.

school trip postponed letter

By Alan Feuer

The federal judge overseeing former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case formally scrapped her own May 20 start date for the trial on Tuesday but declined to set a new one, saying there was much more work to be done before a jury could hear the charges.

The decision by Judge Aileen M. Cannon to delay the start of the trial was more or less a foregone conclusion given the number of legal issues that remain unresolved less than two weeks from the date she had originally set.

In a brief order , Judge Cannon wrote that picking a new date at this point would be “imprudent and inconsistent with the court’s duty to fully and fairly consider” what she described as “the myriad and interconnected” pretrial issues that she had not yet gotten to.

Those included several of Mr. Trump’s pending motions to dismiss the case and a host of thorny questions surrounding how to decide what sorts of sensitive information can be revealed at the trial under a law known as the Classified Information Procedures Act.

But while Judge Cannon’s stated reason for putting off the trial indefinitely was that a large number of legal issues remain up in the air, she never mentioned that she herself helped allow the logjam of motions to pile up .

Mr. Trump is charged in the case with mishandling and illegally holding onto classified material after leaving the White House and with obstructing the government’s repeated efforts to retrieve it from him. Prosecutors have indicated that some of the material he was found to have kept included information about military plans and American nuclear capabilities.

Judge Cannon first signaled that she was inclined to make some “reasonable adjustments” to the timing of the trial as far back as November. Then in March, she held a hearing in Federal District Court in Fort Pierce, Fla., specifically to discuss the trial calendar.

Even though Mr. Trump’s lawyers told her on the eve of that hearing that they could be ready to go to trial in August if necessary, Judge Cannon made no further decisions about scheduling matters until her order issued on Tuesday.

The decision about when to start a trial is an important one for any judge to make, but the timing of Mr. Trump’s classified documents trial — and of his other federal case, in which he stands accused of plotting to overturn the 2020 election — has more than the usual significance.

That is because if the federal proceedings are pushed until after the election in November and Mr. Trump were to win the race, he could order the Justice Department under his control to drop the charges.

As part of her order on Tuesday, Judge Cannon, who was placed on the bench by Mr. Trump in his waning days in office, laid out a series of hearings and filing deadlines that reached into late July. The calendar she set made it all but impossible that the case could go in front of a jury even by August, the time frame to which Mr. Trump’s lawyers had already agreed.

Throughout the case, Judge Cannon has given Mr. Trump’s legal team wide berth in defending him, often granting an audience to legal motions that many federal judges would have rejected out of hand or decided on the merits of written filings alone.

One of the most surprising hearings she included in her newly issued calendar was a three-day proceeding in late June to decide who should be considered as part of the prosecution team. In January, Mr. Trump’s lawyers filed court papers suggesting that a vast swath of the U.S. national security establishment — including top intelligence and defense officials — were part of the team.

The point of that move by Mr. Trump’s team was to seek additional discovery information about any contacts that those officials may have had with prosecutors in the office of the special counsel, Jack Smith. Mr. Trump’s lawyers were seeking to bolster their defense strategy that members of the so-called “deep state” had colluded in bringing the classified documents case against Mr. Trump.

Judge Cannon also scheduled a separate but potentially explosive hearing in late May to consider arguments about whether Mr. Smith had launched what is known as a “selective and vindictive prosecution” against Mr. Trump’s co-defendant, Walt Nauta. The hearing is likely to include Mr. Trump’s own claims of selective prosecution because Mr. Nauta, one of his personal aides, included them in his own filing.

Echoing one of Mr. Trump’s political talking points, his lawyers have been claiming for months that the special counsel unfairly brought an indictment against him even though other public figures, like President Biden, have been found in possession of classified materials but avoided being charged. Another significant aspect of Judge Cannon’s new schedule was her decision to postpone until mid-June the deadline for Mr. Trump’s lawyers to submit a critical filing containing a detailed inventory of the classified materials that they intend to introduce at the trial.

That inventory is consequential because it will set in motion what will eventually be a pitched battle between the defense and prosecution over what sorts of classified materials the jury will hear about — a fight that will involve balancing issues of public access and national security, and that could take months to complete.

The initial filing deadline for that inventory was supposed to have been Thursday, but late on Monday night, Judge Cannon set aside that date without picking a new one .

Her decision came directly after Mr. Trump’s lawyers asked again for the deadline to be pushed back, saying they needed more time and raising allegations that Mr. Smith’s team had failed to preserve the integrity of the boxes of documents that sit at the heart of the case.

An earlier version of this article misstated the expected duration of a hearing about the prosecution team. It is scheduled for three days, not two.

How we handle corrections

Alan Feuer covers extremism and political violence for The Times, focusing on the criminal cases involving the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and against former President Donald J. Trump.  More about Alan Feuer

Our Coverage of the Trump Documents Case

The justice department has filed federal criminal charges against former president donald trump over his mishandling of classified documents..

The Indictment: Federal prosecutors said that Trump put national security secrets at risk  by mishandling classified documents and schemed to block the government from reclaiming the material. Here’s a look at the evidence .

The Co-Defendants: While Trump plays the leading role in the case, the narrative as laid out by prosecutors relies heavily on supporting characters  like Carlos De Oliveira  and Walt Nauta .

Obstruction: The Mueller report raised questions about whether Trump had obstructed the inquiry into the ties between the former president’s 2016 campaign and Russia. With prosecutors adding new charges  in the documents case, the subject is back .

The Judge: Judge Aileen Cannon , a Trump appointee who showed favor to the former president earlier in the investigation, has scant experience  running criminal trials. Can she prove her critics wrong ?

A Slow Pace: Cannon has allowed unresolved issues to build up on her docket, and that appears to have kept her from making a prompt decision on the timing of the case. It is one of several factors that have stirred concern about her decision-making .
