Anden runde af Bravo Tours Open by Enjoy Resorts på Rømø blev afviklet under mildere forhold end første runde. Gennemsnitsscoren i går var 77,77, mens den i dag er 76,02, hvilket viser, at banen stadig er svær at score lave runder på.

Rasmus fører i Abu Dhabi

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen vandt for nogle uger siden på Challenge Tour i Indien. Sidste uge opnåede han en 7. plads i Abu Dhabi Challenge, hvilket førte til, at han overtog førstepladsen på ranglisten, Road to Mallorca. I dag har den 24-årige Furesø-spiller lagt sig i spidsen for UAE Challenge.

God dansk start i Japan

Både Søren Kjeldsen og Marcus Helligkilde er med helt fremme i ugens turnering på DP World Tour, ISPS Handa Championship i Japan. Helligkilde nåede alle 18 huller, mens Kjeldsen (billedet) stadig mangler tre huller af første runde, der fra morgenstunden blev forsinket med tre timer på grund af tåge.

‘Good for the game’: Copper Rock welcomes women’s golf legends to historic LPGA Senior Championship

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — Southern Utah’s golf landscape is about to evolve in a major way with the arrival of the fourth annual Copper Rock Championship and Utah’s first-ever LPGA Senior Championship in back-to-back weeks. And it’s all happening next month at Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane.

“It’s two weeks of professional women’s golf at the highest level, and you get to see it all right here in Southern Utah,” event coordinator Penny James-Garcia said. “It’s a double-header of events not to be missed by anyone who is a fan of golf, because these ladies are the past, present and future stars of the LPGA.”

The Copper Rock Championship , a sanctioned event on the LPGA’s developmental Epson Tour, is set for May 16-18, followed immediately by the LPGA Senior Championship on May 23-25. While the Copper Rock Championship highlights ambitious young golfers chasing their dream of earning LPGA membership, the LPGA Senior Championship will showcase the enduring talents of legends of the game. An international field of approximately 75 players will compete for their share of a $400,000 purse, with $60,000 going to the winner.

The draw is led by Angela Stanford, winner of the 2023 LPGA Senior Championship and two other titles on the Legends tour. Stanford launched her career on the Epson Tour (then known as the LPGA Futures Tour) back in 2000, winning the season-ending event to earn LPGA membership. She has played on six Solheim Cup teams and holds seven LPGA titles, including one major at the 2018 Evian Championship.

“The LPGA has done a great job of growing the game, and I hope people come out and watch,” Stanford said. “Anytime you can showcase women’s golf, either amateur or professional, and you have women and girls who want to come out and watch, that’s good for the game.”

Southern Utah golf fans will also have the opportunity to watch trailblazing champions like Laura Davies, the first woman to win on all three major tours (the LPGA, the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA of Japan Tour) in the same season. In 1994, Davies became the first golfer, male or female, to win on five different golf tours in the same year. She holds 87 titles, including four majors, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

Prior to finding success on the Legends tour, including winning the 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open, Jill McGill etched her name in history as the 1993 U.S. Women’s Amateur and 1994 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links champion. She joins Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, JoAnne Carner and Carol Semple Thompson as the only players to win three different USGA championships.

Juli Inkster, a name synonymous with golf greatness, has also committed to play at Copper Rock. A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Inkster has seven majors and 31 LPGA titles as well as the most Solheim Cup match wins of any American. She’s the only golfer in LPGA history to win multiple majors in three consecutive decades.

Cristie Kerr, who recently became eligible to join the Legends tour, will be making her first appearance in an LPGA Senior Championship. Kerr has won 20 LPGA titles, including two majors, and played on nine Solheim Cup teams.

Other notable names in this year’s field include Hollis Stacy, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame who holds 18 LPGA titles, including four majors, and Sherri Steinhauer, who has won multiple majors on both the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour.

Copper Rock will host a qualifying tournament on May 20, with the top two professionals and the top amateur receiving entry into the LPGA Senior Championship later that week. Nuny Kham-One Khamken, the 2023 Utah State Women’s Senior Amateur Championship winner, will also be eligible to play through a sponsor exemption.

Additionally, Utah’s current first lady Abby Cox and former first lady Jeanette Herbert will be playing in the senior championship pro-am during tournament week, and Cox will address the guests of the pro-am luncheon following the event.

“This is a big deal,” James-Garcia said. “Having this championship here is something recognized at the highest levels of our state, and we’re amazingly honored to welcome our first ladies.”

The LPGA Senior Championship is one of two major tournaments organized annually by Legends of the LPGA, the official senior tour of the LPGA. Legends of the LPGA was established in 2000 to provide competitive opportunities for LPGA Tour professionals and eligible amateurs ages 45 and over. The tour’s membership, which includes 15 LPGA Hall of Fame and World Golf Hall of Fame members, have collectively earned over 750 LPGA Tour victories, including 84 majors. 

“This is the first major golf event of any tour played in Utah,” James-Garcia said. “Spread the word, and let’s show these ladies that Utah loves women’s golf!”

As a proud member of the local community, the Copper Rock Championship is committed to making a lasting impact on Southern Utah. This year, they’re asking golf fans to help them give back by participating in Birdies Fore Charity, a fundraising initiative that benefits Hurricane City’s future Veterans Memorial Park and the Dove Center, a nonprofit organization aiding survivors of domestic violence.

PGA Tour executive Tyler Dennis details Player Equity Program, payouts and more

Tyler Dennis called the moment historic.

That's what the PGA Tour's Chief Competitions Officer said Wednesday when speaking to Golf Channel's Anna Jackson discussing the PGA Tour Enterprises Player Equity Program, which was introduced Wednesday.

The program, which is a joint venture between the PGA Tour and Strategic Sports Group, will reward 200 PGA Tour players with $1.5 billion in equity. The program rewards players based on career achievements, future participation and services and more. The grants are only available to qualified players.

The program gives players the opportunity to be owners of the organization, which is unique since there are so many Tour players with their hands in the pot.

"There's no other sports league in the world that has this significant number of their athletes as owners of their own sports organization," Dennis said. "And we're really excited about it because ultimately, we want to do what's right. We want to grow the PGA Tour in many different ways and having the alignment of our pleasures as player odors with the organization is going to allow us to drive that quickly forward. We're really excited about it."

Dennis said there has been a lot of positive feedback about the Player Equity Program among the membership since the announcement. He said it has grown in positivity since the announcement of SSG getting involved in creating the for-profit entity, PGA Tour Enterprises, earlier this year.

"We want the players to be fully aligned with their organization," Dennis said. "It's something no other sport has done before and we're seeing an incredible amount of excitement about that."

Dennis also said this investment will be extremely beneficial to the fans, which has become a big talking point in recent months regarding discussions of the state of professional golf.

"Fans want to see the PGA Tour leap forward," Dennis said. "We're really focused on innovating. We haven't stood still, we've done a lot over the last few months to have the players directly engaged in that."

Not every player is included in the equity program, but that doesn't mean there won't be ways to get involved or for younger stars and rookies to get their hands in the pot.

Toward the end of the interview, Jackson asked whether players will be expected to contribute to the growth to increase their value beyond just playing PGA Tour events.

"Well, ultimately, we have an incredible sport and that our athletes really care about," Dennis said. "They're constantly every day thinking about how to improve our platform about our products. That's a unique thing in sports and our athletes are out entertaining clients and sponsors that help us put on this tournament and ultimately drive a significant amount of charity, so it's sort of built into the sport.

"Our players are highly engaged. We had a great advisory council meeting, where we talked about things from other sports that we've learned. I think what we want them to do is play golf. You know, fans want to see them display their incredible skills on the course. But being aligned with the overall goals of the organization is really what this latest announcement today is about."

Dennis said he wasn't able to discuss whether players who return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour would be able to be a part of the program, but he did mention talks continue to accelerate with the PIF.

In the roughly 10-minute interview, Dennis mentioned the word "exciting" nine different times in addition to "historic." Although nothing major is changing in terms of the schedule, Dennis said the players are striving to deliver the best product for fans.

"We want to make the PGA Tour as good as possibly be," Dennis said.

Over 434 senior players from 27 Local Tours competed in the 2023 Senior National Championship!

Hilton head island, s.c.  – this year’s tournament marked the 25th anniversary of the senior amateur tour. in all, 434 players competed in the two-day event and each one of our 27 local tours was represented. in the championship flight ,  chad frank  won his first senior national championship, but he is no stranger to being a national champion since he earned the title in 2007 as the golfweek amateur tour champion.  frank  opened the 2023 tournament at golden bear with a three-under-par round of 69 and a two-shot lead over bill shufelt and don o’malley.  the players all went to oyster reef for the second day to determine our 2023 senior national champion. going into the back nine trent gregory , bill shufelt , tony burbridge and ernie watson all put pressure on chad frank . frank stood on the 17th tee box with a comfortable lead until he double bogied the hole and shufelt only trailed by one shot. shufelt hit first and piped it right down the eighteenth fairway while frank hit his ball right and landed almost out of bounds under a bunch of trees. frank punched out and landed about 70 yards from the green while shufelt hit it on the green about 25 feet away for birdie. frank then hit the shot of the day going from 70 yards away to about 5 feet. shufelt rolled his putt and just missed on the low side before he tapped in for par. despite the pressure, frank found the cup and completed the amazing up and down for the victory. congratulations to all that battled on the back nine before we crowned chad frank with his first senior national championship., chad frank , orlando, fl (69-75—144) trent gregory , central, nc (75-70—145) bill shufelt , orlando, fl (71-74—145) tony burbridge , columbus, oh (75-71—146) eddie watson , michigan (73-73—146) in the a flight,  the field was close, and three players battled it out throughout the second day ( mike dowless, ronnie fowler and ronnie averett ) at the robert trent jones course in palmetto dunes . at one point, dowless, fowler and averett were either tied or held the lead outright.  in the end, on the final hole of the round, dowless finally won and earned bragging rights. fowler fired a 75 losing by one stroke while averett posted a 76 and lost by just two shots.  dowless now has the pleasure of being the 2023 a flight senior national champion., mike dowless , eastern, nc (75-73—148) ronnie fowler , nashville, tn (74-75—149) ronnie averett , mississippi (74-76—150) scott ide , charlotte, nc (76-76—152) kevin martin , charleston, sc (79-74—153) steve evans , jacksonville, fl (77-76—153) dana shoulders , columbus, oh (77-76—153) in the b flight,   amalaraj irudayaraj played consistently both days and finished two-strokes ahead of the field with a two-day total of 160. gil ro finished second at 162 and chris rogers placed third with a 163. once again, congratulations to amalaraj irudayaraj on his first ever win to become our 2023 b flight senior national champion., amalaraj irudayaraj , indianapolis, in (80-80—160) gil ro , central, nc (82-80—162) chris rogers , augusta, ga (82-81—163) jamie branham , central, nc (79-85—164) michael anderson , cincinnati/dayton, oh (84-81—165), the c flight saw the only sudden-death playoff of the week as john bowman and dennis guerriero remained tied after 36 holes. in a one hole sudden-death playoff, bowman was victorious. and took home his first-ever senior national championship with a two-day score of 171. guerriero cashed in second and mike grant finished third with a two-day total of 176., john bowman , charlotte, nc (82-89—171) * sudden-death win dennis guerriero , michigan (85-86---171) mike grant , charlotte, nc (89-87—176) john kline , columbus, oh (92-85--177) terry lawson , (90-87—177) in d flight,   roberto benavides came from behind to beat both stan lee ( by three shots) and les tice (by four shots) to become the senior national champion with a two-day score of 181. benavides had quite a week as he also finished in third place in the golfweek national championship. lee fired a two-day total of 184 and tice finished at 185 with benavides taking home the hardware and the title of 2023 d flight senior national champion. roberto benavides , columbus, oh (96-85—181) stan lee , cincinnati/dayton, oh (92-92—184) les tice , orlando, fl (93-92—185) benton smith , central carolina (93-93—186) mel portalatin , new jersey (93-94—187) central carolina got their name back on the team cup trophy with a two-day total of 1669.  finishing in second, and only two shots back, was last year’s cup winner jacksonville, fl at 1671. charlotte, nc  took third place with 1676 shots followed by  columbus, oh with 1680 and augusta, ga at 1694., turning to the edwin watts 2 man team challenge , be sure to congratulate the following teams for winning their flight with the two-day totals listed below:, champ flight: chad frank (orlando, fl) and bill shufelt ( orlando, fl ) 289 a flight:   ronnie averatt (mississippi) and tim rusk (louisiana) 306 b flight:   dave parker (indianapolis, in) and amalaraj irudayaraj (indianapolis, in) 331 c flight:   dennis guerriero (michigan) and scott holland (augusta, ga) 349 d flight:   benton smith (central carolina) and richard pfister (central carolina) 377, thanks to  palmetto dunes  and the arthur hills course for being host again for this year’s national championship. the senior amateur tour grew 2500 members on 27 local tours in 2023 and we are excited to add two more for 2024, this season marked the eighteenth year hilton head island hosted our national championships. our 1245 competitors (434 senior amateur tour/791 golfweek amateur tour) collectively played on nine courses: country club of hilton head, oyster reef gc, bear creek, golden bear, robert cupp at palmetto hall, hampton hall, atlantic dunes at sea pines and robert trent jones and arthur hills at palmetto dunes..
