Star trek picard season 3: release date, trailers, and where to stream.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming third season of Picard.

Patrick Stewart got to step back into one of his most iconic roles in 2020, with the release of Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access (now Paramount+ ). Now, the second season is complete, and Paramount has already announced the cast, a release date, and even an official trailer for season three. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming season three of Picard.

Picard season 3: What to expect

The first season of Star Trek: Picard dealt with two events that were actually holdovers from different Star Trek films in the past: Data's death in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis (Picard struggles with this throughout the first season), and the destruction of Romulus in 2009's Star Trek (which was used to introduce the synthetic humans that helped prevent the rescue of Romulan refugees and ultimately set the stage for Picard to resign from Star Fleet). The synths are subject to a ban, and Picard is pushed to help them because of two synthetic twins that are related to his old friend Data.

Spoiler alert: This all culminates in Picard finding the home of Data's original creator and himself becoming a synthetic at the end of season one to prevent his own death.

This brings us to where we last left Picard - blasting off on the ship La Sirena with a new makeshift crew, heading toward whatever new adventure awaits. The second season starts with Picard transported to the year 2024 along with some of his old friends from Star Trek: The Next Generation series (such as Jerri Ryan’s Seven of Nine and Michelle Hurd’s Raffi Musiker). Picard and friends must discover what the omnipotent Q (John De Lancie) has done to change the timeline that has created a xenophobic version of Starfleet - the Confederation of Earth - which is out to destroy all aliens.

The first teaser for season three sees him rummaging through his old Star Trek: The Next Generation gear, and then we see him and his old partner Riker (Jonathan Frakes), standing side by side, pointing phasers at someone. The teaser also promises more returning characters in season three such as Brent Spinner as Data and Levar Burton as Geordi La Forge. The official trailer for season three is also vague on plot details, but it does show a new ship: The USS Titan, commanded by Captain William T. Riker. We also see Dr. Crusher fighting off masked enemies with a rifle, and a Federation building exploding.

Picard season 3: Release date

  • Star Trek: Picard season three release date - 16 February 2023

A release date for Star Trek: Picard season three is set for 16 February 2023.

Keep in mind the production and filming of seasons two and three all began simultaneously in 2020. The second season of Star Trek: Picard premiered in March 2022 - two years after season one ended - while season three is releasing in early 2023.  Jonathan Frakes and Terry Matalas are directing the final season, with 12 Monkeys creator Terry Matalas stepping in as showrunner for the season.

Picard season 3: Cast and crew

LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner have been announced by Paramount to join Patrick Stewart in the cast of Star Trek: Picard season three.

For reference, below is the confirmed cast for season two of Picard:

  • Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard
  • Alison Pill as Agnes Jurati
  • Isa Briones as Soji Asha
  • Evan Evagora as Elnor
  • Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker
  • Santiago Cabrera as Cristobal "Chris" Rios
  • Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine
  • Orla Brady as Laris
  • Brent Spiner as Altan Inigo Soong
  • Whoopi Golberg as Guinan
  • John De Lancie as Q
  • LeVar Burton as Geordi Le Forgee

Picard season 3: Where to stream

The third season isn't yet available. Below is where you'll likely be able to stream it when it does release.

The second season of Picard took Discovery's Thursday timeslot on Paramount+ . It premiered in March 2022 and is still airing. The third season hasn't yet premiered but will obviously be a Paramount+ exclusive.

Amazon Prime Video is Picard's home in the UK, with new episodes airing a day later starting on 4 March 2022. One has to assume season three will also come to Prime Video in the UK, but it's not confirmed.

In Canada, season two is available on Crave. We suspect season three will also be available via Crave once it premieres in early 2023.

Picard season 3: Trailers

One official trailer is available for the new season -- below. It shows Patrick Stewart back for a final adventure, paired with his original crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation. We see LeVar Burton's Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn’s Worf, Gates McFadden's Dr. Beverly Crusher, and Marina Sirti'’ Deanna Troi. Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner also return to the series, alongside Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd.

Two other teaser trailers have been released for the third season. You can watch them both below, to get a look at a few returning cast members from The Next Generation.

The trailer above debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, while the one below came out a little earlier in 2022.

Both confirm that we're going to see some familiar faces in the last season of Picard.

Picard season 3: How to catch up

In order to be fully prepared to watch season three, you really should watch seasons one and two. You can stream them on Paramount+.

‘Star Trek: Picard’ Season 3 Review: A Highly Satisfying Final Adventure

The end is nigh, and the “Next Generation” gang is back together

star trek picard 3 trama

Nic Cage, when asked if he would ever join the “Star Wars” franchise, emphatically responded: “I’m not in the ‘Star Wars’ family. I’m in the ‘Star Trek’ family.” This third and final season of the “Star Trek: Picard” is for the faithful, the sci-fi humanitarians who venture boldly from their couches, for folks like Cage.

The series once again rallies around Patrick Stewart’s Shakespearean now-retired Admiral Jean Luc Picard, reprising his role from “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Loyal, egalitarian, lover of Earl Grey tea, and stuffed full of wisdom gleaned from his many travels on the U.S.S. Enterprise, Picard’s a born leader winding down. But the explorer isn’t quite ready to wrap himself in the robes of past accomplishments. There’s talk of relaxing with his books, brandy and penning a possible memoir beside the still thriving career of his Romulan love interest, Laris (Orla Brady).

But wait…what’s that sound? That S.O.S. from a distant ship under attack beyond the borders of Federation territory in the 25th Century? Could it really be the siren call of one-time love Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) – reaching out to Picard over the universe as the last possible hero to rescue her from a dire situation? Um, yes.

With a fond good-bye to Laris, Picard, his voice no longer as strong as it once was, begins a final, and unsanctioned, mission to find out if it really is Crusher on the other end of the line. And, in the process, he gets the band back together in a highly satisfying, and clearly final, adventure.

star trek picard 3 trama

Enter Riker (Jonathan Frakes, who also directed two episodes), and Worf (Michael Dorn) and La Forge (LaVar Burton). Onward Lore, the android formerly known as Data (Brent Spiner), and Troi (Marina Sirtis), and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and Raffi (Michelle Hurd).

Think of this as the reunion Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young would have had if their interpersonal squabbles hadn’t outlived the late David Crosby.

Picard gathers his team, starting with Riker (“old farts going boldly,” he wisecracks). The still-evolving plan is to go out and check the verisimilitude of the distress call. Untethered by Federation directives, Picard discovers that his kind of cowboy spontaneity in a vast untamed universal frontier has given way to bureaucracy and caution. But that never stopped him, no matter how properly he pronounced his vowels, and carefully he contained his anger.

Over 10 episodes, the Trek Expendables rescue Crusher and her first mate (“Downton Abbey’s” Ed Speleers), only to discover that there are much larger, more destructive forces at play with newly developed weapons of mass destruction that threaten the Federation down to its very shiny medals.

Stepping in as one of many antagonists is the ever-freaky Amanda Plummer as Vadic, captain of the superpowered starship Shrike. We won’t give away the scorched universe villain’s secret power, but she goes toe-to-toe with Picard on the Shakespearean asides. She’s a credit to her late father Christopher Plummer, a Trekkie who himself played villainous General Chang in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.”

The ships, the sky battles, the views of space all dazzle in a visionary series that once used handheld communicators long before the birth of the cell phone. The adventures meld visceral danger with the intimacy of familiar characters, struggling with love, loss, addiction, power and father issues.

Despite addressing the inevitability of aging, there’s nothing creaky in the third and final season of ‘Star Trek: Picard.’ It comforts, and challenges, the audience’s knowledge of these characters that were drawn over decades, and are drawn together one last time. When this band gets back together, it really sings.

“Star Trek: Picard, Season 3” debuted on Paramount + on Feb. 16

This Star Trek: Picard review contains spoilers.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 10

All good things must come to an end. Even the things we might wish wouldn’t. Such is the case with Star Trek: Picard , a series that, to put it mildly, struggled to find a coherent identity and purpose during its first two seasons, but which blossomed in its third and did so by finally embracing the very legacy it at first tried so hard to run away from. I’m as surprised as anyone to find myself wishing this story could last just a little bit longer, that we could somehow spend a little bit more time with these people, that we didn’t have to say goodbye to this piece of Star Trek: The Next Generation , grown older alongside us in rich and fascinating ways.

Look: If you, as a viewer, haven’t been enjoying the purposeful fan service of Picard season 3, you probably aren’t going to like this finale all that much, which aims itself like a laser directly at the heart of anyone who loved The Next Generation and its characters. Yes, there are some narrative hiccups and shortcuts, but if you ask me,  “The Last Generation” sticks the landing in nearly every way that matters.

The final confrontation with the Borg and the assimilated Starfleet armada is pure spectacle, dotted with the sort of ’90s-style action movie hero moments that exist for no other purpose than simply to delight viewers. (Seven’s captain’s speech to her ragtag new Titan crew! Beverly Crusher’s surprising tactical skill with photon torpedoes! Worf refusing to fight with phasers because swords are just more fun!) Yet, as has been the case for most of the season, the hour’s best moments are its most emotional ones, each grounded in the decades-long relationships between the Enterprise’s legacy crew.

Ad – content continues below

From Picard’s choked-up inability to express what his Number One has meant to him over the course of their lives together, to Riker’s wordless telepathic goodbye to Deanna and Geordi’s wonder at Data’s enthusiastic embrace of the new emotions he’s only now finally experiencing, these are all moments that carry extra weight simply because these are relationships we’ve spent literal years watching grow. We love these people as much as they love each other, and the result is a climax that feels both utterly earned and deeply satisfying.

Picard , of course, knows that the specifics of its conclusion aren’t all that important in light of these facts, but it does manage to (mostly) tie up its larger story in a generally solid way. (Certainly, it does a better job here than in either of its previous season finales.) Picard’s willingness to risk becoming Locutus again in order to save his son is the thematically rich stuff that Patrick Stewart lives to play, and seeing him face off with the Borg Queen one last time is probably where this series was always destined to end. Do the specifics of Jack Crusher’s assimilation and rescue—including his sudden ability to throw off Borg control—really work? Not entirely. But Picard leans fully into the cheesy heart of the moment, and Stewart and Ed Speleers sell the heck out of Jean-Luc’s decision to finally choose his son over everything he’s always put before things like family in the past.

To the episode’s credit, “The Last Generation” also features some remarkably tense moments, despite all of us essentially knowing going into this that there was no way anything irrevocably awful would happen to any of our The Next Generation faves. Yet, at various moments I was genuinely nervous about the fates of several characters, particularly when both Riker and Picard got the whole “tell your loved one how much they mean to you just in case” treatment on the Borg cube. (Riker did it more than once!!) But, thankfully, this isn’t a bleak and gritty sci-fi drama, it’s a warm fuzzy affirmation that love is still humanity’s greatest achievement. (And a story in which its central romance just happens to share a telepathic bond that conveniently allows one to somehow emotionally track the other in a moment of great distress. We love love!)

Picard Season 3 Finally Reveals the Future of a Beloved Original Series Character

Perhaps the most unexpected part of the Picard finale is how quickly the episode wraps up the threat of Borg invasion . “The Last Generation” clocks in at over an hour’s runtime, but the last quarter of the episode is basically devoted to giving us a last few moments of our faves together and determining what’s next for all of them. (And maybe setting up an unexpected spinoff in the process.) Geordi returns the Enterprise -D to the Fleet Museum, where she’s given pride of place among the other classic Starfleet ships and a proper goodbye from the three men who loved her best. (Which includes a callback to The Next Generation ’s very first episode.) Data’s talking out all his new Big Feelings extremely extensively during sessions with Deanna. The Troi-Rikers are planning what’s likely their first vacation together since their son’s illness forced them to retire to a planet it turns out they both actively hate. And, of course, everyone’s getting totally bombed together at 10 Forward, playing poker and quoting Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar just like the good old days and reminding us all that these are the sort of relationships that, once again, will keep going on long after the series’ final credits roll.

In many ways, Picard’s finale doesn’t feel as much like a definitive ending as it does a “to be continued,” the conclusion of one adventure in the lives of these characters and the start of many others, whether we ultimately see them play out onscreen or not. It’s incredibly heartfelt and lovely, and maybe the best thing any of us could have asked for from this series’ conclusion. If that is, in fact, what it is. Star Trek: Picard may be over, but if the finale’s credits sequence is anything to go by, there’s plenty of story to tell in this corner of the Star Trek universe.

Jack Crusher, as we all likely expected, ends up in Starfleet, and is assigned to the newly rechristened Titan —now the Enterprise -G, in honor of Picard—under her new captain, Seven of Nine. (Sorry, Enterprise-F, at least that one shot of you last week was a banger!) Raffi’s her First Officer and while there’s no direct confirmation that the two are back together, if hope springs eternal anywhere, it’s probably going to be on this show. But what will inevitably leave everyone talking is the incredibly welcome reappearance of John de Lancie as Q (with predictably incredible outerwear), a twist that not only wipes out his season 2 death but appears to have extended his original obsession with Picard to his son. And I…surprisingly don’t hate it.

Yes, the one-year time jump to what appears to be happy families between Jean-Luc, Jack, and Beverly speeds us past all the difficult and necessary emotional work it surely must have taken the group to reach this point. (And, personally, I’m taking the utter lack of any mention of Laris as a hopeful sign on the Picard/Crusher romance front, do not judge me.) But it’s such a natural extension of the Picard universe that I’m eager to see where it all might go next.

Fandom’s clamoring for a Star Trek: Legacy series, after all. And even if I’d personally rather see Jonathan Frakes get his shot at the captain’s chair—No, Star Trek: Lower Decks doesn’t count—I’m definitely not averse to the idea of a series in which Jack’s established relationships with his father’s former crewmates and BFFs are part of the larger world of his story either. After all, Picard Season 3 has taught me nothing so much that sometimes, impossible things can happen if you want them bad enough. But if this is the true end of an era, and our time with The Next Generation crew is over, I’m grateful this is how they got to go out, and that we all got the chance to be part of it.

Picard Season 3 is Star Trek’s Biggest Comeback Yet, and Its Most Radical

For the latest Star Trek series, the stakes are bigger than you think.

Gates McFadden as Dr. Crusher in 'Picard' Season 3

The future of Star Trek isn’t just nostalgia. Although the buzz around Picard season 3 focuses on the reunion of the Next Generation , and the season is replete with callbacks to the classic feature films, the most striking thing about this season is that it looks forward.

If you think Picard Season 3 will be a warm, fuzzy trip down memory lane, think again. What makes it work is that this is a sequel to the most famous era of Star Trek . And this time, everything is on the line.

What makes Picard Season 3 so compelling — and just plain watchable — is that none of this continuity matters as much as you might think. Back in 1982, The Wrath of Khan promised the return of Khan, a villain who had only appeared once in the 1967 TOS episode “Space Seed.” After the smash success of Wrath, the TOS canon and origin story of Khan felt less important than the events of the film. You didn’t need to have seen any of The Original Series (or the previous movie) to enjoy The Wrath of Khan , though, for longtime fans, that film felt like an old-school adventure, even if the film itself was risky and radical.

This is the feeling of Star Trek: Picard Season 3.

In the spirit of films like The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country , Picard Season 3 amps up the stakes of the Trek universe to tell a story that is paradoxically simple and intricate at the same time. You don’t need a flowchart to understand what’s going on in Picard Season 3, but if you do remember certain characters and situations from The Next Generation , the experience will be emotional on a completely different level. The show is endlessly geeky with its retro callbacks, but the story isn’t a vehicle for fan service.

This is a season in which things happen that cannot be undone. The stakes are high, and nobody should expect a smooth ride. Where Picard Season 2 existed in a kind of closed-loop time paradox, Season 3 takes this era of Trek into the future, without any do-overs.

Picard Season 3 introduces a massive new threat to Starfleet, but, crucially, this threat is not a generic, galaxy-ending doomsday explosion. The threat is a natural outgrowth of things that happened in the TNG/DS9/Voyager era. In other words, there are consequences for some of the things that Starfleet has done over the years. Starfleet has made mistakes, and a few of those mistakes have come back to haunt this venerable space navy.

But the mistakes of Starfleet are only dramatically interesting if we’re also talking about our beloved TNG characters facing their own personal flaws, too. What sets Star Trek apart from Star Wars is usually the fact that it acknowledges the failures of human nature (“the dark side”) along with the good stuff. In this way, Picard Season 3 returns both the inner light and inner darkness of the human soul. Yes, there’s a bit of “seeking new life” this season, but the tone is closer to the emotional character stakes of the movies. This character work also is what defined TNG , which, paradoxically, couldn't allow the crew to change too much week-to-week, because that really wasn’t how TV worked back then.

Riker and Picard in 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3.

Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Admiral Picard (Patrick Stewart) on the USS Titan in Picard Season 3.

Successful sequels are often called “different, but the same.” What makes Picard Season 3 the same is that it touches on aspects of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager canons. But, what makes it different is our beloved characters behave slightly more realistically than they did back in the 1990s. These people are a big space family, but that doesn’t mean they’re a happy family all the time. The action and the threats to Starfleet are exciting, but we only care because of the people. The show is still, ostensibly, about Jean-Luc Picard. But his relationships with his most important friends and family is the real focus of the show.

All of the new Trek series since 2017 (other than Picard ) have begun in a preexisting timeline. Strange New Worlds is a prequel. Discovery began as a prequel. Lower Decks and Prodigy technically take place a decade and change before Picard . So, if you’ve been looking for adventures that tell the continuing stories of Starfleet after Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and Nemesis , the events of Star Trek: Picard have pretty much been the only game in town. And with Season 3, Picard is finally taking that aspect seriously.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 debuts on Paramount+ on Thursday, February 16, 2023. New episodes drop on Thursdays, for 10 weeks.

  • You are not prepared for the final season of Star Trek: Picard

The last season of Picard is truly wild, and while it’s filled with action, it never seems to lose that sense of wonder that makes Star Trek Star Trek.

Two old men stare at a younger blond woman. They are all dressed in Star Trek uniforms.

After two middling but slowly improving seasons of Star Trek: Picard , the show has returned for one last hurrah — and god damn, was it worth the rest. If you have ever considered yourself a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation (or even, to a lesser extent, Deep Space Nine or Voyager ), then get ready for the love letter coming your way on February 16th.

While this season puts its characters in terrible spots, and there are rumors a few will die by season’s end, this wild ride has a real genuine affection for all the players. It's the absolute most fun I’ve had watching Paramount Plus’ myriad of Star Trek shows. And part of my love of this final season comes from how excited the show is to take some of Star Trek ’s most flawless heroes and find the humanity in them. These characters are messy dumbasses, and it makes the adventure all the better.

Back in Deep Space Nine , Worf, new to the station and struggling with the many conflicting personalities of the crew, speaks fondly of the crew of the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation. “We were like warriors from the ancient sagas,” he says wistfully, “there was nothing we could not do.” Which was true. The crew of TNG fought gods, survived wars, discovered new species, traveled through time, got turned into monsters and back to people again, and occasionally got busy with alien ghosts inhabiting antique candles (you had to be there).

An older woman points a phase rifle at someone off-screen.

But the problem with TNG was the characters seemed to be without significant flaws. Sure, Picard liked Shakespeare a bit too much, Riker had his love of the trombone, and Troi’s fatal flaw was her love of chocolate. But when put up against other crews, like the Deep Space Nine one (it had a terrorist on the team!) and Voyager (it had multiple terrorists on the team!), the TNG crew felt more sanitized. For many fans, this was the boring crew.

Yet, if you squinted, you could see where the show glossed over what might be some significant character issues. Picard’s love of adventure got him killed multiple times, while Crusher was so sure of herself she’d regularly ignore commands and once even was convinced the universe was the broken one. Riker cracked jokes and put his career first to avoid intimacy, and Geordi LaForge was so obsessed with engineering he fell in love with a hologram. These characters have always had flaws, but they rarely, if ever, drove the action.

Until Star Trek: Picard .

Twenty years after Nemesis , this crew’s last big adventure together, they’ve all returned, and they finally feel like messy humans instead of warriors from the ancient sagas. Picard and Riker race to save Crusher, Worf deals with a new threat to the Federation, and Troi, Geordi and whoever Brent Spiner is playing this time around get caught up in the action too. They all still feel like the characters of TNG — only pried out of the 1990s syndicated space adventure mold and put into the 2020s prestige streaming show mold.

A young Black woman dressed in a Starfleet uniform stares at something off screen with concern.

Watching the first six episodes of this season, I kept thinking this was what it must have felt like to be a fan of the original series and finally get great movies like Wrath of Kahn and The Voyage Home . These are still the same characters, played by the same actors, but we’re seeing them in a way the original show never could have allowed. And I don’t just mean that it’s more violent, although Worf does dismember some people. Sometimes the characters make bad decisions in Picard . They mess up. They fight.

But when you worry Picard is starting to feel like a too-edgy sequel, there will be little moments of wonder you can only get in Star Trek . New discoveries. Clever puzzles that get solved. Old villains reappear and feel more menacing thanks to the bigger budget and better special effects of Picard .

Picard and Riker flank Seven of Nine on the bridge of the Titan. They are all seated, with Seven seated in the center.

Like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, this feels like a proper Star Trek show in a way a lot of live-action Star Trek has failed to. But because these are characters we’ve known since 1987, there’s real emotional weight to these adventures. And some shockingly good acting. Jeri Ryan is back as Seven of Nine, and she continues to steal every scene she’s in by virtue of just being that good, but she’s not carrying the whole show on her back like she sometimes did the last two seasons. Patrick Stewart seems to sometimes doze his way through Picard , but there’s a scene with him and Gates McFadden’s Crusher that will have you sitting up straight — eyes glued to the screen. Michael Dorn and Michelle Hurd both have their own scene-stealing moments as Worf and Raffi, respectively, and in one scene, Brent Spiner reminds us of why he and his characters Data and Lore had such fervent followings in the ’90s. There’s something a little electric as all these characters come together.

There are still four episodes of Star Trek: Picard I haven’t seen, and the show could drop the ball spectacularly. The wildness of this show (you should really make an effort to avoid all spoilers) could veer into absolutely absurd territory. But in these first six episodes, you have a very goofy, very thrilling, and very fun sequel to Star Trek: The Next Generation .

Star Trek: Picard airs weekly on Paramount Plus beginning February 16 .

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 will release on Paramount+ on Thursday, February 16, 2023. This release date is an exclusive date for the residents of the United States. All ten episodes will be released weekly on Paramount+ without any scheduled disruptions. As of the time of this writing, there has been no official announcement on when or where the series will be released internationally. If Paramount+ continues its usual pattern there will be a day lag before it releases on Paramount+ in other countries and on companion streaming services such as Crave in Canada or Amazon Prime Video in the United Kingdom.

The first teaser trailer has been released in celebration of Star Trek Day. The trailer is a short one-minute trailer, but it contains some exciting tidbits for the show to come. The excitement is the fact that our favorite crew members are back. We get our first looks at Geordi, Worf, and Beverly but not so much about the plot. The main theme is that whenever you have a united crew, hope still survives.

An additional sneak peek was released revealing the names of the cast for the upcoming season. This sneak peek shows Picard looking through his old uniforms before suiting up beside Number One for one last “good old-fashioned road trip.” The question is where are they headed on this road trip?

The next trailer was a hefty two-minute and thirty-four-second teaser trailer that confirmed the presence of Lore, Vadic, and other long-term enemies of Picard's former crew. It seems like the villains of the Star Trek: The Next Generation series are coming together to form their own 'injustice league' against the now-reunited crew.

This was followed by a sneak peek into one of every Star Trek fan's greatest moments, the ship reveal. As of now, Seven of Nine is the commander of the USS Titan , one of the most powerful ships in all of Star Trek canon. This looks shows the old crew honoring their bond to Jean-Luc and coming together for one last adventure into the great unknown.

More recently, in an episode of The Ready Room , an aftershow for the whole Star Trek franchise hosted by Wil Wheaton , Paramount released a new clip from Season 3 . Here's the full episode (you can jump to 28:50 to directly watch the clip) and for international viewers, the same is available on the Star Trek website :

So far what we know of season 3 mostly revolves around the cast, and it is as much of an all-star Star Trek cast as could be asked for. We have veterans of Star Trek: Voyager , Star Trek: The Next Generation, and even returning characters from Star Trek: Picard. Sir Patrick Stewart will return as Jean Luc Picard, Michelle Hurd returns as Raffi Musiker, and Jeri Ryan will return as Seven of Nine. Star Trek: Picard veterans Alison Pill (Agnes Jurati), Santiago Cabrera (Cristobal Rios), and Isa Briones (Soji) will not be returning. This makes a distinct step away from some characters built up in the previous two seasons and a step backward in time.

This step backward in time takes Star Trek fans almost 20 years into the past, back almost to the cast of Star Trek: Nemesis . We this the crew of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) is back. Both Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis are coming back as William T. Riker and Deanna Troi. From there on out we have the confirmed return of new old faces such as Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, Michael Dorn as Worf, LeVar Burton as Geordi LaForge, and even Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher. These are only the confirmed returns, and more have been rumored or wished upon.

Actress Denise Crosby has teased the return of Tasha Yar, the ill-fated security office in the first season of The Next Generation. She also has played the villain Sela, who was in both The Next Generation and Star Trek Online. We don’t know how she will be returning, but Crosby said that “You will see Tasha Yar, but I'm not going to tell you how.” Fans are also hoping that Colm Meaney will return as the veteran Miles O'Brien and give the fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine some well-deserved recognition.

No official synopsis has been released to describe the upcoming season, but a few tidbits can be gleaned from the array of cast statements and sneak pieces as well as other parts of the continuity. There is supposed to be an entirely new (or perhaps best described as unknown) villain for season three. Some speculation was that Sela will be one of the primary villains. She was quite potent in her few Next Generation appearances and the games have entire lore built up with Sela as one of the primary antagonists. This is still just conjectured at the moment, however.

What is sure however are the events of the previous seasons (that's your last spoiler warning). In the first season, we came to know Soji as Data’s daughter and how the destruction of Romulus started a chain of events that ultimately caused the outlawing of all synthetic life. Picard found himself in the middle of that interdimensional kerfuffle and died in the process. Now Picard has a synthetic body and his old nemeses Q (played by John De Lancie ) and the Borg Queen (played by Annie Wersching ) returned. After a fun jaunt through time back to the 21st century, we see Picard come to terms with his past and how he came to be who he is. Dr. Jurati also joined with the Borg Queen and created a collective that is friendly to the Federation, once again uniting with Picard in the present. This leaves Picard missing a few key allies. Either way, we have seen some progress. Seven of Nine has returned a Starfleet uniform and Picard seems to be well again. It seems he is going back to his own crew’s roots.

Producers Rod Roddenberry and Alex Kurtzman are returning for the final season as well as writer and producer Terry Matalas .

Simply put there isn’t a future for Picard . This is the final season for Picard and there have not been any spin-offs announced. Between the aging of the actors and the large amount of content we already have in that period, this seems to be the last time we will see a lot of these characters.

Picard season 3 recap: What's happened so far

An image indicating spoilers are ahead.

  • Episode 1: The season began on the SS Eleos, in the 25th century, where Dr. Beverly Crusher and her son Jack were attacked, leading Crusher to send a signal for Jean-Luc Picard. When told to not bring Starfleet into this situation, Picard called up Riker, and the two managed to get the USS Titan-A thanks to Seven of Nine. Picard and Riker board the Eleos to find Dr. Crusher in stasis. Meanwhile, on M'talas Prime, a Starfleet facility is destroyed by a portal device.
  • Episode 2: A large ship called the Shrike captures the Eleos, and Seven of Nine convinces Capt. Liam Shaw to help the team. The Shrike is captained by a bounty hunter named Vadic who declares Crusher's son Jack to be a wanted war criminal. Picard realizes that Jack is his son, and while Starfleet intelligence officer Raffi Musiker  is almost killed by the Ferengi criminal Sneed, Worf saves Musiker, and kills Sneed.
  • Episode 3: Crusher reveals she kept Jack's lineage secret to protect him from assassination attempts, while the Shrike and the Titan are engaged in combat. Riker takes over the the Titan, and they find out a Changeling on their ship who was sabotaging their chip. Then, another Changeling is found to be responsible for the M'talas Prime incident. Riker and Picard spend the episode disagreeing on how to deal with the Shrike, and Jean-Luc's insistence they attack leads to the Titan taking serious damage — and Riker ordering him off the bridge.
  • Episode 4: Vadic is revealed to be a Changeling, Riker admits Picard was right all along, Picard and Jack bond and Shaw reveals how his time in Starfleet was effected by that time Picard was assimilated by The Borg. Our heroes manage to to escape and damage the Shrike, and Picard starts to realize he's met Jack before, while Jack starts to experience visions of a post-apocalyptic world and a haunting voice saying "find me."
  • Episode 5: Jack has visions of himself murdering the crew, Shaw regains control and brings in Starfleet ... who have Picard and Riker arrested. Starfleet's Ro Laren (who had a messy saga involving betraying and returning to Starfleet) is the one to arrest them, and begins to think these Changelings have infiltrated Starfleet at the highest tiers. A Changeling bombs the ship Ro Laren is on, while Worf and Raffi continue their M'talas Prime investigation, which leads to a Vulcan criminal named Krinn, and a duel. Jack is starting to admit something's wrong.

Star Trek’s Michael Dorn Wanted Worf To Kill A Popular Deep Space Nine Character In Picard Season 3, And I’m Glad This Didn’t Happen

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Although Star Trek: Picard Season 3 reunited most of the Star Trek: The Next Generation starring actors for the first time since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis , they didn’t all show up at once. In the case of Michael Dorn’s Worf , his first scene in the episode “Disengage” saw him rescuing Michelle Hurd’s Raffi Musiker from the crime lord Sneed, and he beheaded the Ferengi on his way out. But if Dorn had his way, he would have killed a different Ferengi instead: Quark, one of the other major characters from S tar Trek: Deep Space Nine , and I’m glad this didn’t happen.

Armin Shimerman, who played Quark for the entirety of Deep Space Nine ’s seven-season run, shared this tidbit of information while appearing on TrekMovie ’s All Access Star Trek podcast. Dorn came aboard Deep Space Nine at the beginning of Season 4 following The Next Generation’s conclusion, so he and Shimerman spent a lot of time together in the mid-late ‘90s, but decades later, the latter wasn’t particularly enthused about the former wanting to slice Quark’s head off. As he recalled:

Dorn called me up and said, ‘I’m doing an episode of Picard where I kill off a Ferengi. Wouldn’t it be great if it were you?’ I said, ‘Michael no, it would not be great.’ I told him just to forget about that idea altogether.

Jonathan Frakes, who was also a guest on this episode, speculated that Michael Dorn didn’t know Worf would be cutting Sneed’s head off, but Armin Shimerman told the William Riker actor and longtime Star Trek director that, at the very least, Dorn was aware Worf was going to kill a Ferengi. In the end though, it was Sneed who met this fate, with the character being played Aaron Stanford, who previously worked with showrunner Terry Matalas on the 12 Monkeys TV show.

Star Trek: Picard Wrapped Up The Story For Patrick Stewart’s Character, But Now He May Be Getting A New Movie, And I Have Mixed Feelings

I am so relieved this Quark idea for Star Trek: Picard never came to fruition. Worf killing off a Ferengi criminal lord mere minutes after we meet this character is one thing, but for him to behead a character that not only is beloved by many Star Trek fans, but whom Worf had known for many years is another. Granted, as Dr. Julian Bashir once said, Quark was definitely not Worf’s “favorite person,” and he tried to steer clear of the bar owner whenever possible. But not only do I not believe that Quark would ever become a crime lord on Sneed’s level, I also don’t buy that Worf would have just killed his former… associate without blinking an eye.

If the day comes that Armin Shimerman reprises Quark in live-action, the character needs to be treated with the proper respect and not just be killed off for shock value. Star Trek: Lower Decks had the right idea, as Shimerman voiced Quark for a meaningful role in the Season 3 episode “Hear All, Trust Nothing.” The fan-proposed Star Trek: Legacy would be the best place for that to happen, though there’s still no word if that project stands a chance of becoming one of the upcoming Star Trek TV shows .

Picard , Deep Space Nine and all the other Star Trek shows (except for Prodigy , which is now at Netflix ) can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription . Discovery is currently in the midst of its final season, and Lower Decks ’ final season will follow sometime afterwards on the 2024 TV schedule .

'Picard's Michelle Hurd Reveals Which "Legacy" Characters She Wants To Meet

  • Fans are still hopeful for a Star Trek: Legacy spin-off series after the successful final season of Picard on Paramount+.
  • Actress Michelle Hurd expresses excitement for the potential spin-off and a desire to work with more Next Generation alums.
  • Hurd mentions wanting Raffi to meet Guinan; recently Whoopi Goldberg hinted at a possible return to the franchise.

While there's been no official news of a spin-off in the year since Star Trek: Picard Season 3 became one of Paramount+'s most-watched Star Trek seasons, fans are still holding out hope for Star Trek: Legacy . Despite still waiting for a green light from the studio herself, actress Michelle Hurd spoke hopefully about the potential spin-off series during a panel hosted by Collider's Maggie Lovitt at Calgary Expo this weekend. When Lovitt asked what it means to Hurd to know so many people want to see her come back to play Raffi again, she said, "It's an unbelievable honor and one that I absolutely cherish and understand the responsibility of."

As the panel went on, Hurd accepted several Star Trek questions from the attendees in the crowd. When one hopeful fan opened with plans to " assume Star Trek: Legacy is a go " Hurd wholeheartedly agreed saying, "Shall we? I like that, I like where you're going." The fan would go on to ask which other "legacy" characters from the long-running franchise she'd like to see Raffi team up with on the spin-off.

Hurd noted that "Raffi didn't get to interact with everybody that came back." As much as she loved working with Michael Dorn as Worf for most of the season, Hurd had a few other Next Generation alums from Picard Season 3 that she'd love to share the screen with. She went on to say:

"I mean, Levar Burton , Kunta Kinte, I mean can I just I had one line, I think, with Marina [Sirtis] on the second season. I didn't really get to work other than shooting with Gates [McFadden] . So, of that, I would love to actually experience those guys. And then, you know, what I love is that Terry Matalas is such an OG that he, I mean, he had to like, you know, force some of our cameos on the show becausehow do I say [this]? But some people, maybe the studio didn't really get it. They were like, Oh, why would we bring this character on? Nobody knows him. And it was like, No, everybody YOU don't know, but everybody knows them. So I honestly, I think that he would, he would do an amazing job pulling in people. "

Michelle Hurd Wants to See Raffi Meet Guinan If 'Star Trek: Legacy' Happens

Hurd had one more major player from Next Generation and Picard that she would love to see Raffi team up with, saying "selfishly, Guinan would be nice to play with, I’m just saying." And it's possible she could get her wish. A few weeks ago Whoopi Goldberg — who played Guinan across six of Next Generation 's seven seasons — played coy when her The View co-host Joy Behar appeared to spill the beans about Goldberg potentially returning to the franchise again.

While we wait to see if Paramount+ will boldly go with Star Trek: Legacy , you can watch both Picard and Next Generation in their entirety on the streamer.

'Picard's Michelle Hurd Reveals Which "Legacy" Characters She Wants To Meet

Screen Rant

Star trek confirms dark link between federation & the cardassians.

Although it may seem to fly in the face of accepted Star Trek wisdom, there is a dark link between the Federation and the Cardassians.

  • The Federation and the Cardassians share a dark link, challenging Star Trek's portrayal of peace and freedom.
  • Ro Laren indicts the Federation, equating them with the Cardassians, showing a darker side of Star Trek.
  • The federation's high moral stance is questioned by Section 31, the Maquis storyline, portraying a more complex picture.

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek: Defiant #14!

Although the Federation and the Cardassians are bitter enemies in the Star Trek universe, a dark link between the two exists. Star Trek: Defiant has not shied away from exploring the darker corners of the franchise. The Federation, the “good guys” of Star Trek , portray themselves as peaceful and freedom-loving. However, in Star Trek: Defiant #14, Ro Laren makes a less than kind connection between the Federation and the Cardassians.

Star Trek: Defiant #14 is written by Christopher Cantwell and drawn by Angel Unzueta. B’Elanna Torres, a former Maquis and a member of Worf’s crew, has been infected with a parasite. The infected Torres fights Ro Laren, another former Maquis. Under the influence, Torres tells Ro “you will submit or perish.”

The Bajoran, Ro Laren, tells her the Cardassians said the same thing when they came to colonize their world.

Finally, Ro indicts the Federation as well, equating them with the Cardassians, saying they hate having their supremacy questioned.

Star Trek's Federation Only Glitters on the Surface

Agencies like section 31 shows how low the federation can go.

Such a statement may seem to fly in the face of accepted Star Trek wisdom. The United Federation of Planets and Starfleet are often portrayed as noble and morally upright. In an early episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation , Wesley Crusher declared, in a moment of naïveté, that Starfleet did not lie. Beginning with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , however, the veneer started to come off the Federation. The Maquis storyline was one of the first to call the Federation’s high moral stance into question. Later developments in the show, such as Section 31, continued this trend.

Ro Laren’s viewpoints in relation to the Federation are jaded, informed by growing up on colonized Bajor and later by bad experiences in Starfleet. This may seem to take credibility from what she said about a connection between the Cardassians and the Federation. However, numerous episodes of Deep Space Nine, as well as subsequent “nu-Trek” shows have demonstrated the Federation is not above playing dirty to get what it wants. This puts them in league with the brutal and colonizing Cardassians. However, according to critics, the Federation puts on a much more positive and happy spin on what they do.

Star Trek Names The One Society More Brutal Than Cardassians

The federation does not seem to learn from its mistakes, the federation is more benign in their imperialism.

In Defiant’s sister title: Star Trek, the Cardassians are poised for a new beginning, one that could take them down a better path. The Federation, on the other hand, is destined to continue its trend of morally questionable decisions. In season one of Star Trek : Picard , the Federation was in danger of losing its values thanks to an unfair ban on synthetic life. Although they seemingly learned from this mistake, the fact it nearly got to that point is alarming. The Cardassians and the Federation have both made horrible decisions, but somehow the Federation comes out looking respectable every time.
