8-Day Uluru to Adelaide Tour

This was an incredible experience! Amazing views, beautiful sunrise hikes, (bush) camping in swags and learning so much about geological and cultural history. My tour group was very small which created a very relaxed dynamic. No one was left behind or left out. Teamwork makes the dream work. Sid, our tour guide, is pretty damn awesome in what he does. I learned so much about these parts of Australia and he really kept me engaged because he showed authenticity and genuine engagement with people and his surroundings. He was very professional and cool even when things went a little south (blown out tire with a very long drive ahead). He had to stray away from the itinerary a couple of times but I fully trusted him to give us the best experience on this tour. He noticed when you took an interest in learning specific things and would try and teach you about what he knows. Also shoutout to Gary, who was a trainee tour guide. He'll do great on his first tour through the desert and that group will be lucky to have him. This part of Australia is so unique compared to the east coast and south. It's definitely in my top 2 of tours I've been on.

Our young guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and capable as well as fun! He prioritized safety of the group which was so important in the heat we experienced during our tour. He was able to give us options to suit various ability levels and even managed to let us swim in a pool in between hikes one day! Your itinerary said there would be a tour of a camel farm, which there was not. I think your itinerary should state that the guides may have to change or modify activities due to weather conditions. We did get to the 3 main parks/landmarks and do the main hikes that were listed, which is what I went for. The campsites were "rustic," meaning not high end, but it was camping and was a true Outback experience. Loved it!

  • Goosfrabah 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Chill and professional We had an awesome day boating with Marco and his crew. The boat is a lovingly restored classic with wood trim and beautiful detail. It was big enough to comfortably take the group around and with space to roam upper and lower decks, yet small enough to create a chill intimate vibe with a relatively small group. We saw a lot of other tour/party boats, and they all seemed to be packed like sardine cans, all crowding in the same spots. Marco, on the other hand, seemed to take us off the beaten path to somewhat secluded coves around the archipelago. We stopped in areas of calm and clear water, jumped right off the side and swam around, while the crew was super accommodating, helping everyone in and out. The trip followed a predetermined and well-researched route, but didn't feel regimented or rushed. At the end we got to spend a couple of hours at one of several remote beaches. Everyone including the kids loved the trip in the beautiful waters of La Maddelena and returned relaxed and full of positive emotion. Read more Written July 22, 2023
  • jeannine20657 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Avoid the crowds We wanted to visit the islands of La Maddalena but were not very happy about taking one of the many large over crowded boats which are on offer (the idea of a wristband was a definite turnoff), so we were thrilled to find MJ Boat Tours. It was easy to book on-line, though they also have an office in the Maritime Station at Palau. The boat is a relatively small, old wooden boat which could not hold very many passengers so the whole experience felt “exclusive”. There were 4 members of crew, all of whom were very friendly and professional - safety was their top priority. The captain gave a commentary as we sailed and this was translated into English, French and Spanish by a recording. The best part about the trip (for us) was the fact that the captain visited quiet beaches and took us to places away from the main pleasure-boat routes. La Maddalena is very busy in August. There was a guided walk up hill to an historic ruined fort, which was a scramble but easily achievable to someone in good health. A few older passengers chose to wait close to the boat and swim in the crystal clear sea. The boat leaves La Maddalena at 9.30am, collecting the passengers in Palau at 10am, we returned to harbour at 6.45 pm feeling very happy. The sighting of dolphins as we sailed was the icing on the cake. This tour was good value and simple food and drink is available on board. I recommend it to people who do not like to follow the crowd. Read more Written September 5, 2022
  • Cgiumpin 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Highly recommend Super Tour di Roccia - a tour of La Maddalena Archipelaho Very confortable boat. I loved the fact the boat ofered a cover area without being closed ( as on larger boats) and you can still feel the wind and the breeze without spending an entire day in the sun. For sun lovers a second floor was available with confortable sofas. good atmosfere and great tour with a visit to historical war places included. Food and drinks were available at reasonable prices, although it was petmitted to bring your own. The tour was well designed in order to stop for swims in more remote locations or at a time were other boats were not present. Special thanks to the Capitain and his Second in charge. All crew members were very profesional, attentive and focused on creating a nice atmosphere. And of course, the stops were in very beautiful places! All in all, I recommend it as one of the best tours! Read more Written September 19, 2021
  • tinafets 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles GREAT crew, catering and vibes! My boyfriend and I were hiking on the northern coast side of Caprera when we suddenly saw Marco's boat docking at an old 'port' close to 'Fortess of Candeo'. We went over to buy some beer but had no cash to pay for it and could not pay by card, so Mario just gave it to us for free. We talked a bit to the rest of the Crew and also the legend on boat- old roman gladiator Attila. The guy's continued bringing wine and also some food to us and we were treated like royals. The crew was great and spread nice vibes all across the boat and above. The passenger's had an obviously great time and if we would have been in the position, we would have joined them for sure. I think this trip is absolutely recommendable! To top everything Mario's super tour includes a stop at Cala Coticcio (also called Tahiti because of its beauty), which is only accessible with a hiking-guide or by boat. Thanks a lot to Marco, Mario, Attila, Mr. Moustache (Boss from Palermo-sorry for forgetting your name ;) ) and all the others! It was a pleasure meeting you! • Voyage18054412834 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Blew expectations away!! We had the most incredible experience today. Marco and the captain of the ship is the most enthusiastic and passionate tour guide ever for the region of Sardinia. He takes you to all the most beautiful hidden Falls, crystal clear beaches and magical rock formations. He knows the territory so very well, all of the myriad of islands of the archipelago. He knows all the history of the region and his narration.m adds so much color to the experience. The aperitivo in the private Cala dei Corsari was unforgettable, they cured everything from our drink of choice, to the music and the wonderful sushi. Cannot recommend more highly! Due to Covid no food was served, it just means we will have to return to sample it! Plenty of time at each place to relax and snorkel. Special thanks to Carlotta who did a fantastic job translating to English what the captain was saying and spending her time with us. Due to rearranging the itinerary our longest beach stay was peaceful as all the other (many) tour boats had left. Well worth the money and the 5.0 on here. Read more Written September 15, 2020

We were very lucky as there were less than 20 guests on our tour so we felt like on a private yacht :) Ships is old - 1960, but in amazing condition, well done for the crew who maintain it; Città di Chiavari truly is a beautiful ship! Fabio, Captain, Chef, they were all amazing. Friendly, personal, accommodating, we loved every minute of the tour. Pasta was freshly prepared and delicious, views to die for, stops for swimming in heavenly lagoons were unforgettable. I understand that with full capacity it may not be that fantastic, but we were lucky and we loved it! Read more Written October 10, 2019

We booked the tour through telephone and got all the needed information on whatsapp. They took us to lovely places to swim and snorkel. But remember to bring your own mask and snorkel. We visited places of historical value and the lovely guide Carlotta could speak Italian, English, French and Spanish :0 Lunch is included and if you want more food you can order a "secondi" for 10 euro. The tour cost 60€ pp. Staff is professional and careful. Lunch is brilliant, it includes seafood pasta. Audio guidance is great because the girl speaks plenty of languages and has lot of knowledge about the islands. The tour includes an historical excursion, and also the company allow to bring animals on board. You can find drinks on board at reasonable prices. Plenty of space to relax and take sun. Definitely, I would repeat it again. Thank you very much to captain Marco and his crew for hosting us. Read more Written July 26, 2019
  • James B 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent tour, really warm and friendly Captain Marco and his crew, particularly the brilliant hostess Carlotta and the attentive Fabio were hospitable, friendly and very knowledgeable. The boat was smaller, which was beneficial as not only more intimate but meant we could access more locations that larger vessels couldn’t; these were pure gold and made the trip all the more special. The food was delicious, all the more special given it was the Captain’s family recipe for wholesome seafood pasta. We saw historical sights and everything was translated into English, French and Spanish by the gifted Carlotta who was great with the children and very welcoming. Can’t recommend this anymore to anyone looking for a boat trip off Sardinia. Read more Written July 18, 2019

There are lots of boat cruises advertised however my partner and I chose the MJ tour because the boat was smaller and more intimate. There were around 50 people on board but the experience was fabulous. We visited all the Maddalena islands and were shown all the attractions of special interest. MARCO, the Captain, was engaging and his sidekick (CARLOTTA) did a wonderful job translating into Spanish and English. The trip was 9 hours in total but it flew by. To sum up......A memorable day out and great value for money at €50 per person including a Pasta lunch. Read more Written July 4, 2019

Can’t wait to come back. Read more Written 5 June 2021

  • Chris_t710407 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles September in La Maddalena Amazing beaches with crystal clear water expertly narrated and guided by captain marco. Read more Written 15 September 2020
  • drtinastepan 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Boat The most beautiful sea and beaches i have ever seen. Staff was very cool. We were the only two foreigners of full boats Italian speakers and Carlata pay attention to us and translate the Italian interpretation of all day. Absolutely satisfaction. • HannaL661 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Beautiful, personal, amazing! Read more Written 10 October 2019
  • Mauritz C 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent tour with service minded crew. My father "Mr Chow" made the whole experience to a maximum satisfaction. The crew (Marco, carlotta, and the others) were extremely polite and helpful. There was explanation in 4 languages. The food was great, the beaches we visited also! Boat was not crowded, and the price was good. We feel like recommending MJ and this tour to all. Read more Written 10 September 2019

  • 363sukruc 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A day in Paradise Firstly I highly recommend this fantastic company for everybody. At least once in your life you should do this tour. Read more Written 26 July 2019
Read more Written 18 July 2019
  • HardyMarsh55 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The BEST boat tour by far! Read more Written 4 July 2019

10:00 - 11:30 Meeting and introduction

We’ll meet at 4 p.m. at our hotel in Luzern (Lucerne) for a “Welcome to Switzerland” meeting. Then we’ll take a meandering evening walk through Switzerland’s most charming lakeside town, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together. Sleep in Luzern (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.

11:30 - 13:00 Lunch Time

Enjoy an orientation walk of Zurich’s OLD TOWN, Switzerland’s center of banking and commerce. Then, leave Zurich and start your Swiss adventure. You’ll quickly discover that Switzerland isn’t just home to the Alps, but also to some of the most beautiful lakes. First, stop at the foot of the Jura Mountains in the picturesque town of Biel, known as Bienne by French-speaking Swiss, famous for watch-making, and explore the historical center. Next, enjoy a scenic drive to lakeside Neuchâtel, dominated by the medieval cathedral and castle. Time to stroll along the lake promenade before continuing to stunning Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland, with its fantastic lakeside location and breathtaking panoramas of the Alps.

13:00 - 15:00 London Museum

Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.

15:00-17:00 London Madame Tussaud Tour

An unforgettable trip to the high Alpine wonderland of ice and snow is the true highlight of a visit to Switzerland. Globus Local Favorite At an amazing 11,332 feet, the JUNGFRAUJOCH is Europe’s highest railway station. Jungfrau’s 13,642-foot summit was first ascended in 1811 and in 1912 the rack railway was opened. There are lots of things to do here: enjoy the ALPINE SENSATION, THE PANORAMA 360° EXPERIENCE, and the ICE PALACE. Also receive your JUNGFRAU PASSPORT as a souvenir to take home with you. The round trip to the “Top of Europe” by MOUNTAIN TRAIN will take most of the day.

17:00-19:00 Dinner at River Cruise

It’s market day in Lausanne! Enjoy browsing and packing a picnic lunch for our 11 a.m. boat cruise on Lake Geneva. A few miles down-shore we’ll dock at Château de Chillon, where we’ll have a guided tour of this delightfully medieval castle on the water. On our way back we’ll take time to peek into the vineyards surrounding Lutry before returning to Lausanne. Boat: 2 hrs. Bus: 1 hr. Walking: moderate.

Now, the full lineup is officially confirmed for what may very well be the biggest hard rock festival ever in North America.

On Monday, July 10, Ozzy Osbourne revealed that he would no longer be performing at Power Trip. On Tuesday, July 11, it was announced that British metal icons Judas Priest would be stepping in for Ozzy. Priest will now play opposite AC/DC on Saturday, October 7.

Check out the full lineup artwork below.

After announcing his  retirement from touring  back in February, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne has recently expressed his desire to still perform at some capacity in the future. Commercially, Ozzy is enjoying the fruits of his widely successful album  Patient No. 9 . He won two GRAMMY® Awards at the 65th annual event in Los Angeles last month. He took home the hardware for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album. It marked the metal legend’s first solo GRAMMY® win since 1994 when he won Best Metal Performance for “I Don’t Wanna Change the World ( Live & Loud ).

“I’m one lucky motherfucker to have won the Best Rock Album Grammy,” the now a five-time GRAMMY® Award winner exclaimed. “I was blessed to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world and Andrew Watt as my producer on this album. Winning the Best Metal Performance was equally gratifying being that the song featured my longtime friend and Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi.”

Metallica’s upcoming eleventh studio LP  72 Seasons  arrives on April 14 via the band’s own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track  72 Seasons  is Metallica’s first full length collection of new material since 2016’s  Hardwired…To Self-Destruct . The album will be released in formats including 2LP 140-gram black vinyl and limited edition variants, CD and digital download.

Additionally, Metallica are  returning to the road  this summer. The band previously announced their M72 Word Tour which will see the band perform back-to-back nights at each stop with no repeat performances. In each city, special guests on Night One will be Pantera and Mammoth WVH. Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills will serve as support on Night 2. Tickets are on sale now  HERE .

Iron Maiden brought their Legacy of the Beast Tour back to North American last year for another massive run. The band’s latest album  Senjutsu  arrived in 2021. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock and Top Hard Rock Albums charts.

In 2020, AC/DC released their seventeenth studio album  Power Up . The record peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and topped the charts in several other countries around the world. Once again, Angus and Malcolm Young’s nephew Stevie Young, who took over rhythm guitar duties for Malcolm after his passing in 2017. AC/DC have not toured since their Rock or Bust trek wrapped up in 2016.

Tool have a number of festival appearances slated for 2022, including a headlining slot at Aftershock. Last summer, they released their GRAMMY®-Award winning fifth album  Fear Inoculum  as a new black vinyl set via RCA Records. The 3-disc 180 gram set on black vinyl features new artwork by guitarist Adam Jones. It comes in a triple gatefold jacket and an exclusive 12″ x 36″ double-sided poster. Last March, Tool released a re-imagined version of “Opiate,” the title track from their first EP. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first commercially-available release, the band re-worked and extended the song –  “Opiate 2 “  – with an accompanying short film.

Guns N’ Roses are embarking on a massive world tour this summer. The North American leg runs through October 16m making stops in Boston, Chicago, Nashville, Charlotte, Vancouver, and more. The band is also returning to Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania for the first U.S. show of the tour. They previously kicked off their We’re F’N Back! Tour there back in 2021. Revisit our review and live photos from the show  HERE .

Last year, Guns N’ Roses came out with a a new EP  Hard Skool . The record was released nearly a year ago on February 25, 2022. It was the first time in 28 years that vocalist Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, and bassist Duff McKagan collaborated together on new material together.

The trio was accompanied on the new studio effort by the current members of the GNR lineup, which is completed by guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer, as well as keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese. Fresh out of a pandemic, Australia’s 2023 touring calendar was one of the busiest in recent memory, as artists of all stripes took centrestage everywhere from stadium shows to intimate local gigs. With a starry schedule that included the likes of Post Malone , Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Mötley Crüe , it’ll be tricky for 2024’s schedule to outdo its predecessor – and yet, thanks to the likes of Taylor Swift , Blink-182 and Pink , plus Coldplay, Pearl Jam and SZA, it’s poised to do just that.

From debut headline shows for breakout artists to bustling festival sideshow programs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy as a stellar batch of musicians make their way Down Under in 2024. Read on for NME’s roundup of all the biggest concerts and tours coming to Australia this year.

Bob Heil, Whose Innovations Enhanced the Sound of Rock, Dies at 83

A groundbreaking audio engineer, he provided the large-scale systems that brought tours by the Who and the Grateful Dead to life.

A black-and-white photo of Bob Heil, a man with shoulder-length hair and a light-colored short-sleeved shirt, stands next to a piece of audio equipment.

By Alex Williams

Bob Heil’s career as a groundbreaking sound engineer who brought thunder and rich sonic coloring to tours by rock titans like the Grateful Dead and the Who began behind a pipe organ in a 1920s movie palace.

Mr. Heil, who helped usher rock into its arena-shaking era by designing elaborate sound systems that allowed rock juggernauts of the late 1960s and ’70s to play at volcanic volumes, first learned to appreciate the full spectrum of musical tones as a teenager, when he took a job playing the massive Wurlitzer pipe organ at the opulent Fox Theater in St. Louis.

“We had to voice and tune 3,500 pipes, from one inch to 32 feet,” he said in a 2022 video interview with the audio entrepreneur Ken Berger. “Voicing taught me to listen. Very few people know how to listen. Listening, you’ve got to mentally go in and dissect.”

Mr. Heil died on Feb. 28 of cancer in a hospital in Belleville, Ill., his daughter Julie Staley said. He was 83. His death was not widely reported at the time.

Although he worked behind the scenes, Mr. Heil was enough of a force that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland credited him with “ creating the template for modern rock sound systems” In 2006, the Hall installed a public display containing his mixing boards, speakers and other items.

“The concert business became what it is today because he made the experience so much better for the customers,” Howard Kramer, who at the time was the Hall of Fame’s curatorial director, said in an interview that year with The Houston Chronicle. “No one made the leaps in live sound that he did.”

Mr. Heil got started in the business in 1966. Up to that point, top rock ’n’ roll bands often had to rely on feeble sound systems that were drowned out by screaming fans. That roar, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones wrote in his 2010 autobiography, “Life,” was often so deafening in the band’s early days that audiences could hear nothing more than the drums: “We used to play ‘Popeye the Sailor Man’ some nights, and the audience didn’t know any different.”

Mr. Heil gave rock shows the sound arsenal they needed. “We were the first company back then to build a package P.A .,” he said in a 2008 interview with the audio magazine TapeOp. “You could come to Heil Sound in 1972 and leave the facility with a complete system: snakes, road cases, everything — even a modular mixer.”

He also put a distinctive stamp on 1970s rock with the Heil Talk Box, an effects pedal that transformed guitar parts and vocals into an interstellar drone. Joe Walsh used it in memorable fashion on his hit “Rocky Mountain Way” in 1973, and the Talk Box was a signature of Peter Frampton’s monster-selling 1976 double album, “Frampton Comes Alive!”

Mr. Heil’s career took a major turn in 1971, he told Mr. Berger, when a manager for the Who frantically called him in St. Louis, asking if he could get his crew to Boston the next day. The opening show there, part of the band’s tour in support of its hallowed album “Who’s Next,” had been a disaster, with one newspaper noting that the band’s “soaring brand of rock could not be heard” under the venue’s “miserable conditions.”

Roger Daltrey, the band’s lead singer, threatened to fly back to England until Mr. Heil arrived with his rig. When Mr. Daltrey “did the sound check,” Mr. Heil recalled, “it was OK, because it was a monster P.A.” He would work with the Who for the next decade.

Robert Gene Heil was born Oct. 5, 1940, in St. Louis, the elder of two children of Robert and LaVerna (Bills) Heil. His parents owned a clothing shop in the small town of Marissa, Ill., about 40 miles east of St. Louis.

As a youth, Bob not only played the accordion and the organ but also became a ham radio enthusiast, which gave him an early opportunity to fiddle with electronics. After graduating from Marissa Township High School in 1958, he spent time studying at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and the St. Louis Institute of Music.

In 1966 he opened Ye Olde Music Shop in Marissa, where he rented Hammond organs and repaired instruments for professional musicians. He also began to design his own audio systems.

Before long, he was supplying them to country acts like Dolly Parton and Little Jimmy Dickens as they came through St. Louis. His big break came in 1970, when management of his old employer, the Fox Theater, called him and told them of a crisis: The Grateful Dead was set to play there, but the band’s P.A. system had been confiscated by authorities in a drug raid.

On a subsequent call with Mr. Heil, Jerry Garcia, the band’s lead guitarist and vocalist, “almost dropped the phone” when he learned that Mr. Heil had a sophisticated system featuring an amplifier by McIntosh, the high-end audiophile brand, Mr. Heil told Mr. Berger. Performing Musician magazine later called the resulting concert “the night that modern live sound was born.”

In addition to his daughter Ms. Staley, Mr. Heil is survived by his wife, Sarah (Benton) Heil; another daughter, Barbara Hartley; a stepson, Ash Levitt, the president and chief executive of Heil Sound; a sister, Barbara Schneidewind; and seven grandchildren. Both daughters are from his first marriage, to Judy Mortensen, which ended in divorce.

By 1980, Mr. Heil had grown weary of life on the road, so he created a new line of headsets and microphones for the ham radio industry. At one point, Joe Walsh, another ham enthusiast, told him he wanted to use one of his microphones onstage.

Mr. Heil protested that the microphones were not concert quality. Mr. Walsh disagreed. “I was at his house and went downstairs to his little studio and he proved it to me,” Mr. Heil told TapeOp. “So I had to start listening all over again.”
