Last year, we did a huge surprise trip for a Disney Cruise . We gave big hints we were leaving from Florida and used this awesome reveal as the final gift Christmas morning. But we added a few small Christmas gifts that were Disney-themed to help them guess. One of them was a Mandalorian advent calendar. I snagged it on mega sale at the end of the holiday season, and had my boys use it the following month to countdown to our trip. The advents as a trip countdown were the biggest hit- so much so that we’re gifting bonus Disney themed Lego Advent Calendars to our kids this year with a surprise trip reveal!

Look for a free printable Disney countdown calendar, make one yourself, or buy an advent calendar to use as part of this big surprise reveal!

How to Make a Disney World Surprise Box (Explained)

disney world surprise box

Let me introduce the concept of a Disney World Surprise Box.

A Disney World Surprise Box is a delightful package filled with enchanting Disney-themed surprises and the exciting news of a trip to Disney World. It’s a unique and fun way to announce your next Disney adventure to your loved ones .

…and trust me, it’s every bit as thrilling as it sounds!

Disney World Attendance by Day (Explained)

The Magic of a Disney World Surprise Box

A Disney World Surprise Box isn’t just about the trip; it’s about the excitement and anticipation that begins way before you step foot in the park.

It’s about the sparkle in your children’s eyes when they open the box and discover they’re about to embark on a magical journey to the happiest place on earth.

It’s about creating memorable moments even before you start your trip.

The Disney World Surprise Box is not merely a box; it’s an experience.

It’s the first chapter of your Disney World adventure , creating a ripple effect of joy and anticipation.

Creating a Disney World Surprise Box is like extending your Disney vacation beyond the trip itself, making the joy of Disney permeate your everyday life, leading up to the big day.

Whether you’re planning a trip for your children, your friends, or even a surprise romantic getaway for your partner, a Disney World Surprise Box adds an element of surprise and spectacle to your announcement that’s undeniably Disney.

Understanding the Disney World Surprise Box

Let’s take a closer look at what exactly a Disney World Surprise Box is. In its simplest terms, a Disney World Surprise Box is a curated box filled with all sorts of Disney-themed surprises, and at its heart, the thrilling news of a trip to Disney World.

It’s like a treasure chest, overflowing with Disney magic and the promise of an unforgettable adventure.

Key Components of a Disney World Surprise Box

A typical Disney World Surprise Box contains a range of items, each adding a sprinkle of magic to your surprise.

It may include Disney merchandise such as clothing or toys, Disney-themed snacks, a guidebook or map of Disney World, and other exciting Disney-related goodies.

However, the true highlight of the Disney World Surprise Box is the magical announcement: a message or a card announcing the upcoming trip to Disney World.

But remember, there’s no fixed rule for what should go into your Disney World Surprise Box.

The most important thing is that it evokes the joy and anticipation that’s synonymous with a Disney World adventure.

Examples of Disney World Surprise Box

Now that we have a good understanding of what a Disney World Surprise Box is, let’s go through a couple of examples to spark your imagination.

Imagine a box adorned with Mickey Mouse stickers on the outside.

As your child opens it, a flurry of Disney-themed confetti showers out. Inside, they find a Mickey Mouse ear hat, a Disney Princess doll, their favorite Disney movie on DVD, a guidebook with images of all the wonderful attractions at Disney World, and a beautifully handwritten message: “Pack your bags! We’re going to Disney World!”

Or how about a Disney World Surprise Box for your significant other?

Picture a sleek black box with a shiny golden ribbon.

Inside, there’s a set of matching Mickey and Minnie T-shirts, a pair of customized MagicBands, a romantic Disney-themed picture frame for your future memories, and a golden envelope containing tickets to Disney World.

Whether it’s for your children, your partner, or your friends, the joy of a Disney World Surprise Box is in its personal touch.

It’s more than just a box; it’s a treasure chest of excitement, anticipation, and memories waiting to be made!

Crafting Your Own Disney World Surprise Box

Creating your own Disney World Surprise Box can be as magical as the surprise itself.

From handpicking each item to imagining the look of surprise and delight on your loved one’s face when they open it, the process is a joy in itself.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating your personalized Disney World Surprise Box.

1. Choosing the Perfect Box

The first step in creating your Disney World Surprise Box is selecting the perfect box.

Consider the size, shape, and design of the box.

You might choose a box that’s large enough to accommodate all the goodies you want to include, or perhaps a smaller box for a more compact surprise.

The design could be as simple as a plain box that you decorate with Disney stickers, or as elaborate as a specially designed Disney-themed box.

The choice is entirely yours!

2. Filling Your Box with Disney Magic

The next step is to fill your box with all sorts of Disney-themed surprises.

These could include clothing, toys, snacks, DVDs, books, and more.

Make sure to choose items that the recipient will love. If they’re a fan of Frozen, consider including a Elsa or Olaf toy.

If they’re more into the Marvel Universe, how about a Spider-Man action figure?

Don’t forget to add in a guidebook or map of Disney World to help build the excitement!

3. The Big Reveal: You’re Going to Disney World!

The centerpiece of your Disney World Surprise Box is the announcement of the trip itself.

This could be a simple handwritten note, a creatively designed card, or even a video message.

The important thing is to convey the exciting news: “We’re going to Disney World!” in a way that resonates with your loved one.

4. Optional Surprises

To add an extra touch of magic to your Disney World Surprise Box, consider including some optional surprises like Mickey-themed balloons that fly out when the box is opened, or a countdown calendar to mark the days until the trip.

These additional elements can add a whole new level of excitement and anticipation to your surprise.

5. Personalizing Your Disney World Surprise Box

Finally, remember to personalize your box according to the recipient’s favorite Disney characters or movies.

This isn’t just a box; it’s a box that’s tailor-made for them.

Every item, every detail should reflect their personal connection to Disney, making them feel truly special and excited for the adventure that awaits them in Disney World.

Creating a Disney World Surprise Box is a labor of love, a gift that extends the magic of Disney World beyond the park itself, and into the heart of your loved ones.

So get creative, have fun, and let the magic begin!

Embracing the Magic with a Pre-Made Disney World Surprise Box

While crafting your own Disney World Surprise Box can be an enjoyable and rewarding process, sometimes we may not have the time, resources, or creative inclination to do it ourselves.

That’s where pre-made Disney World Surprise Boxes come in.

They’re professionally crafted, beautifully packaged, and filled with a selection of Disney surprises, all designed to bring a huge smile to your loved ones’ faces.

Journey into the World of Pre-made Disney World Surprise Boxes

Pre-made Disney World Surprise Boxes come in a variety of themes and sizes, filled with an assortment of Disney goodies.

You can find boxes themed after popular Disney movies, or those featuring specific characters.

Some boxes might be geared towards a specific age group, while others cater to all Disney lovers, young and old.

The beauty of pre-made boxes is that they take the guesswork out of the process, while still delivering the magic and thrill of a Disney World surprise.

Finding Your Perfect Disney World Surprise Box

Now, let’s talk about where to find these magical pre-made boxes.

1. Etsy’s Enchanting Offerings

Etsy is a fantastic marketplace for handcrafted items, and Disney World Surprise Boxes are no exception.

With a variety of sellers offering their unique take on the Disney World Surprise Box, you’re sure to find something special.

From boxes filled with handmade Disney crafts to those brimming with officially licensed merchandise , Etsy offers a plethora of options to choose from.

2. Amazon’s Magical Selection

Amazon also offers a selection of Disney World Surprise Boxes.

With their vast network of sellers and commitment to small businesses, you can find a diverse range of pre-made boxes to suit your needs.

Whether you’re looking for a simple and affordable option or a luxury box filled with high-end Disney merchandise, Amazon’s got you covered.

Weighing the Pros and Cons of a pre-made Disney World Surprise Boxe

Buying a pre-made Disney World Surprise Box has its own set of benefits and considerations.

On the plus side, it’s convenient and saves time, perfect for those who may be too busy to create their own.

They’re professionally packaged and can offer a variety of items that might be hard to gather individually.

However, they might not offer the same level of personalization as a DIY box.

Plus, you’ll need to consider factors like cost and shipping time.

It’s all about finding the right balance for your needs and those of the lucky recipient of the Disney World Surprise Box.

Whether you choose to craft your own Disney World Surprise Box or opt for a pre-made one, remember, the real magic lies not in the box, but in the anticipation and joy it brings, and the unforgettable Disney World adventure that awaits!

Unique Ways to Unveil Your Disney World Surprise Box

The presentation of your Disney World Surprise Box is almost as important as the box itself.

After all, the moment of revelation is a memory that will last a lifetime. With a little bit of creativity, you can turn the surprise box reveal into an unforgettable event.

Here are some unique ways to present your Disney World Surprise Box.

The Disney World Surprise Scavenger Hunt

Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt?

You can create a fun and interactive adventure leading up to the big reveal of the Disney World Surprise Box.

Start by creating clues based on Disney trivia or references to your loved ones’ favorite Disney characters or movies.

You can hide these clues around the house, leading them on a magical treasure hunt that culminates in finding the surprise box.

The thrill of the hunt, coupled with the surprise of discovering they’re going to Disney World, will make for an exhilarating experience.

The Countdown Calendar

Building up anticipation for the surprise can be almost as exciting as the surprise itself.

Creating a countdown calendar leading up to the reveal of the Disney World Surprise Box is a great way to do this.

You can mark each day with a small Disney-themed activity or a trivia question to keep the Disney magic alive in the lead-up to the big day.

When the countdown ends, it’s time to unveil the Disney World Surprise Box!

Other Creative Reveal Ideas

There’s no limit to the creative ways you can present your Disney World Surprise Box.

You could create a Disney-themed dinner, complete with Mickey-shaped pancakes or Cinderella cupcakes, and present the box as a dessert surprise.

Or, you could host a Disney movie marathon, ending with the surprise box reveal.

Alternatively, you could plan a Disney dress-up day where everyone dresses as their favorite character, and the box is the grand finale.

Remember, the goal is to make the reveal of the Disney World Surprise Box as magical as the trip itself.

So let your imagination run wild, and make it a moment they’ll remember forever!

What Do You Put in a Disney Surprise Box?

A Disney surprise box can contain a variety of items that capture the magic of Disney. You can include items such as Disney Autograph Books, which are great for collecting signatures from favorite characters during the trip, or iconic Mickey Ears, a staple for any Disney park visit. MagicBands, which are colorful, waterproof wristbands that act as an all-in-one device for your Disney World vacation, can also be a thrilling addition.

How Can I Surprise My Kids with a Disney World Vacation?

Surprising your kids with a Disney World vacation can be done in many creative ways. One popular method is through a Disney World Surprise Box. Inside the box, you could include items like Disney-themed toys, books, or clothing, and a special note revealing the surprise trip. You could also create a scavenger hunt with clues leading to the surprise box, or a countdown calendar with the trip reveal at the end.

How Can I Surprise Someone at Disney World?

Surprising someone at Disney World can take many forms. You could plan a surprise character meet and greet, arrange for a special Disney dining experience, or order a Disney celebration cake for a special occasion. You could also arrange a surprise in-room celebration, with the help of Disney Floral and Gifts, which offers gift baskets and packages that can be delivered directly to your resort room.

How Do You Reveal to Kids We Are Going to Disney?

Revealing a trip to Disney to kids can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. You could use a Disney World Surprise Box, filled with Disney-themed items and a ‘We’re going to Disney World!’ message. Alternatively, you could plan a scavenger hunt with the final clue leading to the trip reveal, or a Disney movie night with the announcement made during intermission. Whatever method you choose, the aim is to make the reveal a magical and memorable moment.

14 Ideas for Doing a Disney World Trip Reveal Surprise

14 Ideas on how to surprise someone with a Disney World trip reveal

So you’ve booked a trip to Disney World and now it’s time to share the news with your family! Do you want to do a special surprise Disney World trip reveal so that you can capture their reactions?

This is quite common with Disney World trips and they often make for some of the best videos. Who doesn’t love watching someone scream with joy or cry happy tears when they realize their dream trip is about to become a reality?

Here are some of my favourite ideas I have seen when doing a surprise Disney World trip reveal:

Mickey Balloons

This one works best if you are revealing the trip as part of a gift. It involves wrapping up a large box filled with some balloons, and some added magic is if the balloons are Mickey themed. When your family opens up the Disney World surprise box, the balloons will come flying out and you can include a message in the box (or attached to the string of the balloons) that says “You’re Going to Disney World!”

Scavenger Hunt

This one involves a bit more planning and preparation, but the result is super fun. You create a bunch of clues to lead them on a scavenger hunt and hide them throughout your house.

The kids often get so wrapped up in the fun of the game, that they don’t even realize that there may be a big surprise at the end. The treasure at the end is so worth it and will get some great reactions!

Reveal It When You Hit the Gates (Road Trip)

If you are driving to Disney World, then you can certainly pull this surprise off if your children are young. You tell them you are going somewhere else and then hit the road for Florida.

If they are young enough, they won’t pay attention to the road signs and will be unaware of where you are going. Once you are about to enter the Disney World property, now it is time to get them ready for your surprise trip reveal. Tell them to pay attention and look out the window. The Disney World gates are hard to miss and they’ll get pretty excited once they spot them.

Fake Airport Drop-Off

This surprise is for parents that are really good and covert at keeping secrets. You’ll need to keep the trip a secret from them until the last minute and also manage to pack all their stuff without them noticing. You disguise your trip to the airport as a drop-off for one of the parents for a business trip, but then you let them all in on the surprise!

Play a Fun Family Game

surprise disney trip balloon box

Jigsaw Puzzle

Do you have a kid or loved one that loves puzzles? Time to get creative and design a special puzzle made just for them! You can create your own design for your puzzle for free on Canva.com .

Once you have your image created with the message “You’re Going to Disney World!” on it, you can upload it to a puzzle making service. You could use a site such as  www.createjigsawpuzzles.com  or Vistaprint . Then, once you receive it, give it to the one you are surprising and watch them piece it together.

Advent Calendar Surprise

Are advent calendars a big hit in your house during the month of December? Why not make your own and customize the contents? Make a homemade advent calendar and provide the kids with little hints throughout the month leading up to Christmas. You can then have the big reveal inside the day of the 25th which will make for a fun Christmas morning!

Gift Them Their Magic Bands and Disney Goodies

surprise disney trip balloon box

Early Morning Surprise

Give them a reason to jump out of bed! If you have an early morning departure, keep the secret up until the very last minute. Wake them up when it’s time to go with their bags all packed and ready to go.

They’ll wake up feeling like they are in a dream and you will surely have no trouble getting them out of bed once you let them know where you are going!

Mail Them a Letter

Kids love getting mail. What better way to surprise them with a letter from their favourite Mouse! Send them a letter and then have them open it and read it aloud. You can find a Disney World surprise letter template online like this one from mommytravels.net.

Disney Mad Libs

Mad libs are a fun game where you have to fill in the blanks of a story before you read it aloud. Here is an example of a printable you can use to announce your trip. Have your child give you some answers for the blank sections and then give the completed story to them to read.

Organize a Disney Breakfast

Trick Them!

There are so many ways you can trick your kids and surprise them with a Disney vacation, but I really like how this mom orchestrated this one:

Box in a Box in a Box in a Box…..

This one is great if the surprise is a birthday gift. Make them work for it and wrap up several boxes in to each other making them go through several layers until they get to the very end. You could make the reveal their MagicBand or perhaps a letter saying “You’re going to Disney World!”. It makes for a really fun game and the anticipation really builds up as they open each layer.

We have a tradition where we go out for Chinese on Christmas Day. I removed the fortunes in the cookies and replaced them with ones I made stating we were going to disney

I love that idea, that is great way to do a trip reveal! 🙂

We got plush Mickey and Minnie head easter baskets. We put in Disney shirts, their Magic bands, sunblock, a handheld fan/misting bottle, beach towels, goggles and Mickey shaped goldfish crackers. Gave them to our girls and asked them to figure out the surprise.

I love that, such a great idea!!!

Can I ask how you swapped the fortunes?

We have never surprised our kids with a trip to Disney, but we have surprised my best friends daughter(also my daughters best friend) and our kids that my friend and her daughter were going with us on our trip last summer. I made a video at MAgic Kingdom a couple months before her birthday and for her birthday showed the video to her and my kids to reveal that they were coming with us to Disney World. My kids knew about the trip but not that our friends were joining us. I’m planning to surprise them for our spring break trip this coming year. Hoping I can hold out until it time to wake them for the drive to the airport.

If you want to make a trip to Walt Disney World a little more magical, I suggest WDW Florist Service. When I took my sons for the first time, I ordered special gifts for them that were waiting in our room when we arrived with a special message from Mickey! Was it an extra expense? Yes. Was it worth every penny? You bet!

15 Creative Ways To Reveal A Surprise Disney Trip

April 27, 2021 //  by  Mckensie Shiner //   Leave a Comment

Planning to book a surprise Disney trip to gift to someone in your life? Then, keep reading! It’s everyone’s dream to be surprised with a trip to Walt Disney World. The only tricky part is, how will you tell the person the news? Will you give a countdown calendar to your significant other or tell your kids they’re visiting relatives out of town?

Whoever you’re surprising, we are sure to have a great way to make the Disney trip reveal magical for everyone involved.

1. Countdown Calendars

Personally, we LOVE this idea because we have everything you need for this! A countdown calendar is a great way to let everyone know of your surprise Disney trip! On our Facebook page, you can find some of our free countdown calendars and print them out!

Feel free to hang it in plain sight or package it up like mail and give it to whoever you’re giving your surprise Disney trip to. This is a great Disney trip reveal and doesn’t take a lot of planning.

This is a great choice for those who don’t have a lot of time or for older teens/adults who don’t require a very extravagant approach, as younger kids may need a bigger surprise.

Join our Facebook group to access free printable Disney countdown calendars for your surprise Disney trip announcement.

2. Disney surprise box

Have you considered giving a Disney surprise box for your Disney trip reveal? If you want to give a memorable trip to the person you’re surprising, this is a great way to do so!

One of our favorite websites for sending a Disney surprise box, chock-full of goodies from the Disney parks, is Pixie Dust 2 U. From this site, you can choose a boy or girl box. Some boxes have contained the following items: Disney luggage tag, color pack, Minnie/Mickey drawstring bag, non-park lightweight ears, lanyards, and other fun Disney items!

Use the code “WELCOME2U” for 10% off your first order!

3. Disney Shirts Reveal

Another great way to pull off your Disney surprise trip is by revealing it with Disney shirts! Whether you are surprising your significant other, friend, or family member, this is another simple fun way to let them know what you have planned!

In order to do this, it’s important to incorporate their favorite Disney character or movie to make it all that more sentimental for everyone involved. You can also save the shirts and wear them for your trip!

A popular design for Disney shirts is the family vacation ones which normally have the family name, month, and year.

Check out our Disney shirt post here, which is all-inclusive when it comes to the relationship with the person you’re surprising.

4. On the way to the airport

A great way to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to wait until the last minute to do so. This approach can be even more exciting since they have no idea the surprise Disney trip is coming.

As you approach the airport, ask them where they think you’re going. Drop hints such as dressing them in Disney clothing or playing Disney music in the car.

Once you arrive at the airport, let them know what you’ve planned. Their reactions will be worth the wait!

5. Scavenger Hunt

For the adventurous person in your life, a scavenger hunt is a great way to reveal a Disney trip! Start with a small note in the house and lead to the backyard, garage, etc. until you finally reveal a clue that reveals the surprise!

There are SO many of these scavenger hunts on Pinterest and the possibilities are endless with this approach. However you decide to set it up is your choice, but there are so many neat ways to really make the person wonder what you’re up to! If you’re wondering how to surprise kids with a Disney trip, this is the way!

6. Going to Grandma’s House

If you are able to commute to Disney World, telling your kids they’re going to a relative’s house is a great way to surprise them. This approach even allows you to pack clothes for them and not have questions asked when loading up the car.

This is best for small children, but older children may appreciate this one as well. It definitely depends on the child, though! Some may feel overwhelmed when planning for one thing and getting something completely different. Surely, once they get there, they will be in their element!

7. Suitcase filled with Disney items

This surprise is a great way to give the person you’re surprising some extra gear for the trip and being extra thoughtful while doing so! I mean, really, who wouldn’t love a suitcase or bag full of Disney items?

Some items to include are a pair of ears, character hand sanitizer, character masks, Disney keychains, autograph books, and anything else you can think of! Bonus points if the suitcase or travel bag is Disney-themed!

For more Disney items you could include here, try reading our article  Disney items from Amazon!

8. Mickey balloons wrapped in a large box

Similar to the gender reveal trend, this Disney surprise trip reveal involves a large box and Mickey-shaped balloons! Simply fill them up with helium (or air) and cut the box open to show your surprise!

If you decide to fill the balloons with air, you will just have to pull them out by hand. That is why this is ideal with helium balloons so they float to the top!

You can find cheap balloons at your local dollar tree! These include Mickey as well as other Disney character balloons! Read our Disney Dollar Tree post for more cheap finds!

9. Invitation From Mickey

This Disney surprise trip is foolproof and just requires some paper, a p en, and maybe some colored markers and stickers if you really want to seal the deal! Writing an invitation from Mickey is a great way to surprise someone with a Disney trip!

Since Mickey is the star of the show here, it’s only right he sends the invitations out, to be honest. There are so many different options for what to say in this letter, but including one of Mickey’s famous catchphrases like “oh boy!” Or “see you real soon,” is sure to authenticate it.

What better way to let someone know about a surprise trip to Disney than by bringing a little bit of Disney to them? Especially when it comes in the form of food!

Make some Mickey waffles or Gaston’s famous cinnamon rolls and let them guess what exactly it is you’re planning for them by giving them one of their favorite Disney treats as a hint.

If you’re not a great cook or baker, it’s always okay to store-buy items, too. It helps if everything is easily identifiable as Disney snacks, but if not, simply have them guess where they can find most of these tasty treats! It should be pretty obvious!

We also have a recipe for Epcot’s Violet Lemonade here , which is a great addition to whatever you decide to prepare!

11. Customized Disney Tickets

An easy at-home Disney surprise reveal involve making customized Disney tickets! With this idea, you can pretty much do whatever you would like as far as designs go. You can use construction paper or cardstock and either design them online or handwrite them!

Additionally, there are also templates online which you can utilize to carry out this Disney trip reveal. Add names and their favorite Disney items or characters to really make this one special!

Shop these adorable custom tickets on Etsy here!

11. Decorate a space in the house

What better way to announce the surprise than to decorate a spot in the house and throw a mini Disney party! This is one of the best ways to announce this since it’s pretty obvious what is coming when you set this up!

Refer to our Disney Dollar Tree post to find some awesome decorations to do this with!

12. Disney Surprise Puzzle

This is yet another great idea due to the creativity that comes with it. It is also a great idea for kids! Give them a blank puzzle box and tell them the surprise is in the completed puzzle. They will be so excited to put it together and even more so when they realize what the surprise is!

There are hundreds of puzzles online for this Disney surprise trip reveal! You can find puzzles like the one below on Etsy here.

13. Drop gifts as hints

Similar to the surprise box and suitcase full of gifts, this is nearly the same but a little dialed back. As you await the initial surprise announcement, you can start to give gifts that may allude to the surprise. For example, maybe give them a new Disney shirt and when they ask what the occasion is, say it’s for something coming up.

This can be done with virtually anything, such as wax melts, hats, or jewelry! Some great Disney gifts including the one below can be found on Etsy or by clicking  here!

14. Disney button

Disney buttons are an instant giveaway for a Disney trip and are perfect for anyone who doesn’t like to keep a secret for too long, or feels that the person/people they’re surprising will catch on quickly! By gifting a Disney button, you’re also giving them something to wear during the trip, which is always a bonus!

This great Disney button from Etsy can be found here.

15. Play Youtube videos as a hint

If you’re looking for another simple and. cost-effective reveal, this is the one for you! This can be as simple as playing the fireworks from Happily Ever After (which is on YouTube in HD), or maybe a clip from their favorite ride.

Even more simply, you can play a Disney promo video such as this one!

There are also hundreds of Disney surprise trip reveal videos on the site you could easily show them and then ask them what they would do if that was them… then tell them it is!

First, decide when you will do your big reveal

When it comes to surprising your kids with a trip to Disney, the first thing you need to decide is when or how soon you want to tell them. Do you want them to be surprised as they head in the car or to the airport, or do you want to tell them before the trip? You have two options when determining when to announce to your kids. First, you can tell them before a trip, weeks or even months before the actual trip. The second is that you surprise them by either telling them when you’re on the way to Disney or heading there.

Surprise them with a Disney suitcase

A cute and creative way to surprise them is by filling a suitcase with everything they would need for a Disney trip. Some things to include that will help give this away would be some Disney shirts, Mickey ears, autograph books, and other park essentials that will help clue them in.

Unwrap a Disney gift or Disney clues

If you’re planning to give them a trip to Disney as part of a Christmas gift or maybe even a birthday gift, then let them open a present. Give them clues toward the trip, such as a stuffed Mickey Mouse, a Magic Band, or maybe a pair of new Mickey Ears.

Box up Disney Balloons

A fun way to surprise your kids with a trip is by getting a big box, filling it with custom balloons (or store-bought Disney balloons), and then having them open the box to announce your trip. You can even put a sign on a balloon that says something like, you’re going to Disney or write it on a card if the balloons don’t give it away.

Give a letter from Mickey himself

If you want to create something that they will cherish for a lifetime, you’ve got to try this! You Can find a printable option or get one on Etsy. You can find some Mickey-inspired fonts and make a letter with a box of Disney goodies and mail it to your kids! This is such an exciting way to feel like they are getting invited by Mickey himself to Disney.

Now that you have announced your trip to your kids, it’s time to start planning your trip! There are so many little details that come with planning a Disney vacation, so if you haven’t started already, make sure you do!

Surprise we’re going to Disney World! Isn’t that something that we’d all love to say to our family and friends. If you’re looking for Disney trip reveal ideas to be able to surprise your family then read on.

When you book a Disney trip of any kind, there is always the question of do you keep it a secret from the kids or family members, or do you include them in the excitement.

We have come across many ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip over the past few years after becoming frequent visitors to Disney World. These Disney trip reveal ideas work well whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World , Disneyland Paris , or any of the other amazing Disney parks.

Why not check out these FREE Disney planning printables to plan your holiday.

For us personally, we have booked four trips to Walt Disney World. Two of these have been a surprise for our daughter, and two we decided to involve her in the planning.

Spell It Out

One of the popular ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to spell it out. Use magnetic letters on the fridge for the children to see when they enter the room. Or cut out paper letters and stick to the wall perhaps if magnetic letters aren’t an option.

Create The Moment In DVD

You could build up the suspense by having a Disney film afternoon and tell the kids at the end of a film that they are going to go and see their favourite character from their favourite film.

Treasure Hunt

Depending on the age of the children, you could create a Disney treasure hunt with simple clues around the house. The prize could be a soft toy of your child’s favourite Disney character with a note attached to them with the news of the holiday.

Certificates

Of the great creative ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to design a letter or a certificate for your children. Choose your moment and present it to them when you want to share the news. If you’re writing a Disney trip reveal letter, you could even post it to your child direct.

All children love receiving their own post, and when it comes from their favourite Disney character it will be amazing.

Disney reveal balloon

Personalised Balloon

One of our Disney reveal ideas we used was a large box with some Disney inspired gifts inside. We also included a personalised balloon with a message to say we were going to Disney World.

You may be wondering how to make a Disney surprise box. Just find a box that’s big enough to hold the inflated balloon. Secure the balloon string in the base of the box, and decorate the outside. When the lid of the box opens, the balloon will float out.

Surprise You’re Going To Disney Pop Up Card

A pop up Disney inspired card is a great way to catch attention from people when you want that slow recognition on their faces that something big is happening.

pressed pennies in the shape of a Mickey head

I love this ideas for children especially as they take their time to read the message you have written inside the card. You may even decide to include a letter from Mickey Mouse.

Birthday Cake

One of our Disney trip reveals was added to a Birthday Cake. We used a personalised cake delivery company and added our own message saying, “Happy Birthday, you’re going to Disney World”.

It took our daughter a few seconds to realise there was a message on the cake when she blew out the candles, and it was so much fun watching her face as she realised what was happening.

Donald Duck at Hollywood and Vine

Disney Reveal Mickey and Minnie Balloons

Can you imagine walking into a room with large helium Mickey and Minnie Mouse balloons waiting for you. This would certainly get a great reaction. Large balloons would be perfect if you were planning your surprise Disney reveal in stages.

Would the kids realise that a Disney trip was happening if they saw balloons as part of the decoration?

I love light boxes and think they have so many fun opportunities for messages. A Light box would work really well with a surprise Disney trip ideas message added to it. Perhaps it could be left to see if the recipient of the surprise notices.

Photo Message

A photo message would be a lovely keep sake for a surprise Disney trip idea. It can be personalised to include what is special to you and your loved ones going on the Disney trip with you. Perhaps it could be hidden as the final prize in a Disney scavenger hunt.

Mickey Mouse in Magic Kingdom

When putting together a surprise Disney trip reveal box, I think tickets are a good thing to give. Often now, all tickets for Disney are linked on Magic Bands , or you collect them when you arrive, so it’s nice to give something physical. Tickets are also a great prize at the end of a scavenger hunt.

Everyone loves a new mug don’t they. I often take special personalised mugs to work to use at my desk. This way I get to remember the surprise Disney trip reveal memories every time I look at it.

A new mug with a message on it could also contain some special Disney merchandise such as new stationery, or chocolate to make a lovely gift.

Animal Kingdom Entrance

Disney Countdown Plaque

Last but not least on my reveal list of surprise Disney trip ideas is a countdown plaque. These are so much fun and can then be used for the remainder of the countdown getting all the family involved.

Advent Calendar

If you’re planning your Disney trip reveal on Christmas Day, why not create an Advent Calendar for the kids. You could include small Disney treats such as mini Lego figures, themed sweets and chocolates, stationery along with hints along the way.

On the 25th December, the big reveal can be behind the last door!

meeting joy and sadness at Epcot

That’s my list of surprise Disney trip ideas for revealing a Disney trip to your loved ones. Have you done a surprise trip announcement?

You could also put lots of the smaller ideas mentioned above together and create your own Disney reveal box. Imaging the kids faces when they open the box and start taking out the contents.

I love these ideas, the look on their faces when you surprise them is just priceless. It’s so hard to keep quiet though, I remember being busting for months to tell them we were going. I just need to get someone to surprise me with a trip now !

Ah I love all these ideas. We surprised ours the second time we went. We went in May so the Christmas before they both got a Disney box filled with all things Disney and a note telling them where we were going. Their faces were a picture x

Tips for Revealing a Surprise Disney Trip

Disney Grand Floridian | Surprise Disney Trip

Surprising Kids        Surprising Adults        Ideas for Revealing the Surprise

The one thing better than a Disney trip is a surprise Disney trip! There are a ton of videos online of kids and adults receiving this special surprise. We have some advice and ideas for a revealing a surprise Disney trip that will be unforgettable.

Plan a Surprise Disney Trip For Kids

surprise disney trip balloon box

First you have to decide how the child you are surprising will react to a trip to Walt Disney World . Should they have a little bit of prior knowledge? Many parents like to prepare their kids for Disney by practicing walking together and learning about the theme parks. If this is the case, then the best option for you, would be to reveal your surprise before its time to leave for the trip. If the child you are surprising is able to cope with a surprise trip to Disney, then you could possibly attempt a surprise reaction when you are on your way or once you arrive at your destination.

Other people in on the secret, could let the cat out of the bag, so you should also be careful about who knows your special vacation.

Finally consider the needs of your child. Would they like to pack their bags themselves? Do you think the anticipation of the trip would be good for them? (try a Disney Countdown Chain !) How will they handle such a big surprise?

Be aware that all kids may react differently to avoid a let-down if the child is not exuberantly excited.

Plan a Surprise Disney Trip for Adults

surprise disney trip balloon box

If surprising a child with a trip to Walt Disney World is difficult, then surprising an adult is as challenging as eating just one potato chip! When surprising an adult, there are many more things to consider including work schedules, packing, and other plans they may have. If we thought that kids were nosy, then adults are ten times more so! With MyDisneyExperience housing all of your planning info in a simple app, it can be easy to lose the surprise to your smartphone! When planning a surprise vacation, make sure that the adult you are surprising does not have other obligations before whisking them off on a magical vacation, and be extra cautious against prying eyes and ears.

Packing for an adult would be the ultimate challenge for me, when I consider pulling off a surprise of this magnitude. The key would be ensuring that you or someone even closer to the individual than you are, is able to sneak around and pack up the Disney essentials without the adult ever becoming suspicious.

Ideas for Revealing the Surprise Disney Trip

Revealing before the trip.

If you decide to reveal the surprise before going on the trip, a lot of options are available to you. For example, if you reveal the surprise early enough, the person you are surprising could still pack for themselves and prepare for the trip in whatever ways are necessary. If you decide to wait until it is time to leave for Disney before revealing your secret, you could have a dramatic reveal, and then have the travel time to discuss the details of the trip, and appreciate all of the hard work you have put into planning this amazing surprise.

There are so many great ideas out there for those looking to reveal a surprise Disney trip.

  • Gift Box – The surprise is revealed in the form of a present. What’s inside the box is up to you, but it tells the person they are going to Disney!
  • Send a Letter – Everyone loves getting mail, especially kids. Mail a letter with a trip announcement to the person you are surprising.
  • Puzzle – You can make a puzzle to be solved that will reveal the secret. These can be made online in many places including Shutterfly.
  • Packed luggage – Reveal the surprise with suitcases full and ready to go!
  • Scavenger Hunt – Provide sneaky clues and have them go on an adventure. See how long it takes for them to figure it out!
  • Disney Dinner Party – Have a themed dinner party to reveal your vacation destination.
  • Impossibly hard gift to open – Have you seen those videos where someone wraps a box in like 6 layers including duct tape and a combination lock? Make them work for the surprise!
  • Shock and Awe surprise – Like the Publisher’s Clearing house just show up with balloons, confetti, and whatever else you can think of!
  • False Countdown – Provide the person you are surprising with a false countdown, and reveal that you will be going sooner than expected.

Not Revealing until Arrival

  • The false vacation ploy – pretending to go somewhere else and arriving at Disney World!! Beware that the fake trip should not be something that the person you are surprising really wants to do!
  • Not revealing anything – Just start going until they figure out the destination!

  • Best Christmas Ever – Disney Trip Surprise Ideas

We're going to Disney Surprise Box

Want to win Christmas this year? Give your family a magical vacation to look forward to! Not only will they treasure the memories far longer than any toys, you can skip the shopping madness and actually enjoy the season!

If you’re going to surprise your kids with a trip, you’ll want to make a big production out of it to maximize the fun. There are so many great ways to reveal your gift. And lots of talented folks out there making resources to help if you’re time (or creativity) starved. Here are some of my favorites:

The Bum Rush

If you’re planning on leaving for vacation right away, and your kids are young enough – you might be able to keep the secret until you get to the airport, or even all the way to Florida. Popular ploys are “we’re keeping daddy company on a business trip,” or “we’re going to grandma’s”. But make sure they won’t be disappointed when they find out they aren’t going to the original location.

Surprise via gifts

There are so many travel related items that you could gift your kids like luggage , backpacks , water bottles , toiletries . You could have them open a series of items that are not necessarily Disney related, and see if they pick up on the theme. Then progress towards more specific and revealing clues like Disney shirts or Magic Bands .

The box-within-a-box technique is a lot of fun too. Wrap a series of boxes nested inside each other until they get to the surprise. Some ideas for the last box:

  • Helium Mickey balloons that float out
  • A letter from Mickey
  • “Tickets” to Disney World
  • A pop-up custom card
  • A character plush

Surprise by clues

If your kiddos are a little older, you might want to challenge them a bit and stretch out the anticipation by gamifying it. Give out little hints daily with an Advent Calendar. Or you could create a scavenger hunt (or buy one on Etsy), have a custom puzzle made, or play a game like hangman, Pictionary or charades with the answer “We’re Going to Disney.” Examples below from Etsy:

More subtle Hints

With teens, it might be fun to get a little sneakier. Slip in some clues and see how long it takes them to catch on. Mickey shaped pancakes for breakfast, a message written in chapstick on the bathroom mirror (they’ll see when the shower steams up the room), or don some custom tees, and keep them concealed under your bathrobes until just the right moment.

Seven Ways to Surprise Your Kids with a Trip to Disney

Disney surprise kids ideas charlene chronicles

1. Opening a birthday/holiday present.

Get a custom t-shirt made on Etsy with your child’s name and a Mickey Mouse silhouette. If your kiddos are old enough to read, then add the phrase “I’m going to Disney!”. Alternatively, get some red converse sneakers and bling out the front toe with rhinestones with the Mickey Mouse silhouette. Wrap the present in regular wrapping paper and have them open their gift! Woot! Best idea if it is a birthday or Christmas and it’s a part a bunch of presents. Bonus is that the sneakers or shirts can be used on the trip!

2. Fill a box with Disney themed balloons.

Get a large cardboard box and fill it with Mickey Mouse themed balloons. Include one mylar Mickey balloon, and a mix of a half a dozen standard balloon in red, yellow, black colors. Then attach a note to one of the balloon strings with the message that they are going to Disney. Wrap up the box with wrapping paper with the balloons inside the box. As the kids open the box, the balloons float out with the message! This is a good one to have ready one day as the kids get home from school. Just have it randomly the middle of the family room with a sign that says “Open Me”. (Wait and watch! and this is a good ‘hidden camera’ moment too.)

3. Play Your Way

If your family is into games, this may be a great way to reveal the trip. One afternoon or evening during your game time or game night, encourage your kids to engage in a scavenger hunt to find the clues and the surprise at the end! Or if you celebrate Easter, tuck one of the clues in each egg for an epic Easter egg hunt! Another game idea is pretty awesome. With some pre-planning (and lead time for making, ordering and shipping), take a picture of yourself holding a sign saying the family is going to Disney! Or with some photoshop magic, get a picture of Mickey and add a phrase along the lines of ‘Alright, you’re coming to see me at Disney! See ya real soon!” Then make a puzzle out of it using services like Shutterfly . Give the kids the puzzle to make one day and see how long it takes for them to figure it out. Another game idea is to play Pictionary. Of course, parents drawing – with the kids guessing!

4. Do it with Food

The night before you leave on your trip is my favorite time to do this idea. Order a cheese pizza. When you get the ordered pizza, quickly add some pepperoni slices on top and make them look like Mickey. Write a “We are going to Disney” message in the upper, inside part of the pizza box. Ask your oldest to serve the pizza and watch them notice as they open the pizza box. Then, make sure to record their reactions when the also find out they are going the next morning!

5. Do it with Suitcases

charlenechronicles_Disney_Suitcase

6. Surprise them enroute

How to Surprise Kids with a disney trip vacation

7. Advent surprise

Great for Christmas time! Have a little Disney themed trinket in your home advent calendar and on the last day – surprise! The written reveal. Another idea is if you use your Elf on the Shelf, have the elf bring one letter each night. Collect all the letters and see if your kids can solve the Anagram! What are your favorite ways to surprise the kids? Have you done it before? Do tell us in the comments below!
