Two Former Four Star Recruits Set to Visit Syracuse Football as Transfer Targets

  • Author: Mike McAllister

In This Story:

Syracuse Orange

Syracuse football’s visitor list for this weekend continues to grow, and it now includes two more former four star recruits visiting as transfer targets. Georgia wide receiver transfer Yazeed Haynes and Texas A&M defensive line transfer Fadil Diggs will get a closer look at the Orange this weekend. Haynes was recruited to Georgia by new Syracuse head coach Fran Brown, while Diggs was recruited by and played for new Syracuse defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson at Texas A&M. Diggs also scheduled to visit Alabama. He has one year of eligibility remaining while Haynes has four.

As a high school recruit, Diggs was a consensus four star, top 200 recruit out of Eastside High in New Jersey. He signed with Texas A&M over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others.

Haynes was considered one of the top receivers 2023 recruiting class. He was a consensus four star recruit rated as a top 300 prospect by ESPN, On3 and Rivals out of North Penn High School in Pennsylvania. He signed with Georgia over offers from Boston College, Maryland, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Penn State, Rutgers and West Virginia, among others.

The two high profile transfers join fellow former four star Will Norman, a Florida defensive lineman transfer, as official visitors this weekend. Tristen Graham, Jakhari Williams, Braheem Long and Jaden Hart are among the commits also expected to visit.

NCAA Football: Syracuse Press Conference

A lot has changed in the week and change since Fran Brown was announced as the head coach of the Syracuse Orange . The new man in charge has also ushered some new coaches, new staff and now of course, new recruits. Brown was known as an ace recruiter, as is his new defensive coordinator, Elijah Robinson, so it’s no surprise that the pair are immediately hitting it hard and have a budding list of offers as well as official visits starting to pop up.

(Ed. note: It became official that Khalil Ahmad is returning to Syracuse from Penn State to add even more recruiting firepower to the staff)

These targets are a mix of folks that the new staff has been working with in their previous stops at Georgia and Texas A&M , as well as some transfers that they had been working with previously. They also will need to reevaluate and retain those recruits committed under the Babers tenure that they feel can fit their new system and roster needs. One overlooked part of this process in the world of transfer portal shenanigans is the fact that Brown had to re-recruit his entire team. During an interview last week it was mentioned that he had planned to have sit downs with every member of the team by early this week to work on that process.

This weekend however, the official visits start in earnest. There have been at least six that have been publicly announced via recruits social media or otherwise confirmed to be heading to campus, including the following:

  • Koy Beasley, DB, 4-Star Purdue Commit
  • Emanuel Ross, WR, 4-Star Stanford Commit
  • KingJoseph Edwards, Edge, 4-Star Uncommitted
  • Marcellus Barnes Jr., CB, 4-Star Uncommitted
  • Jaylan Hornsby, WR, 3-Star Uncommitted
  • Yasin Willis, RB, 3-Star Pitt Commit
  • Josh Philostin, CB, 3-Star Indiana Commit
  • Whit Muschamp, QB, 3-Star Vanderbilt Commit
  • Cole Snyder, QB, 3-Star Buffalo Transfer (former Rutgers )

There has been an ever-increasing flurry of activity on this front over the last week, so if I missed anyone, apologies and we’ll continue to update if new information has come in. In the meantime, you can see Coach Fran is already busy hitting up New Jersey:

The Orange also has seen a limited number of decommits over the course of the coaching change. Always understandable, as part of what you are committing to with a school is the personnel you’re working with. At this point, the brothers Trashon and Tavon Dye, as well as Zekai Wimberly and Clinton Robinson have announced that they will be re-opening their recruitment.

Also for reference, I’ve thrown together a spreadsheet, because why not. I will continue to update it as we see more info come in, but rankings listed are based off 247sports.com recruiting composites from when the player was a recruit. I still need to find a good way to differentiate, but this also includes players who have entered the portal from staff’s previous schools, who have a positional or recruiting tie to the new staff (i.e. defensive linemen transferring from TAMU).

The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro

syracuse football visit

You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..

The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.

If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..

Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

Belorusskaya

If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.

The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya

To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

Novoslobodskaya

It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya

On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice.  For me, this station resembles a presidential palace.  You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya

When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii

Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!

Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.

You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.

It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say

' src=

I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.

I imagine Moscow would have been a little different 13 years ago but these stations have probably always looked beautiful

Food and Footprints

You chose some great stations for this write up! Beautiful details in these stations and would love to visit them sometime. Particularly like the Komsomolskaya station with that yellow ceiling!

Thank you very much. Komsomolskaya seems to be a lot of peoples favourite stations too

Wow! Without the text I would have thought them to be some museum or gallery.

I know exactly what you mean!

Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!

' src=

Wow, that’s a lot of artwork. I wonder how old some of these pieces are?

Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.

' src=

My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne

True. It is like having a free trip to an art museum/gallery. I hope that you can one day visit Moscow and see for yourself.

' src=

Oh wow, I would never have known that these were metro stations. The ceilings remind me of how you need to look up sometimes, even in the commuter rush!

It is true about life in general, we just go from A to B looking directly in front of us instead of around us

' src=

Wow, I would have never guessed that these were stations. The decor is so pretty and not one I’m used to seeing at metro stations. Love the ceiling at The Komsomolskaya metro station.

They certainly don’t look like metro stations. The ceiling there is one of my favourites too!

Syracuse Football: Speedy 4-star wide receiver, return man mapping out ‘Cuse visit

By neil adler | feb 25, 2024.

Vernell Brown III, an explosive 2025 4-star wide receiver/return man, is eying a visit to Syracuse football, an analyst says.

Vernell Brown III, an explosive 2025 four-star wide receiver and return man who is also a top-250 national prospect in his class, is eying a visit in the near future to Syracuse football, according to a national recruiting analyst.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Brown, who hails from Florida, just in recent days dropped a top 11 that features the Orange , along with Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Stanford, Tennessee and UCF.

Where’s 🏡???? @Hayesfawcett3 @CoachVB_ESM @JonesHSFootball pic.twitter.com/0td3I7PHtP — Vernell "Trey" Brown III1️⃣™️ (@VB3_9) February 22, 2024

That’s some intense competition for the new ‘Cuse coaching staff, led by head coach Fran Brown . They offered a scholarship to Vernell Brown III in late January, per his X page.

Still, for Syracuse football to make his list of finalists, when the ‘Cuse only offered him in recent weeks and he has amassed more than 40 scholarship offers throughout his recruiting process, is encouraging for the Orange’s chances to prevail for Brown.

Syracuse football is likely to get a visit soon from four-star athlete Vernell Brown III.

In a recent article, 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong spoke with Brown’s dad about his son’s recruitment. Brown’s dad says that his son “feels like the top priority” for numerous of his finalists, including the Orange.

Wiltfong writes in part that Brown and his family are “navigating spring visits which will include a trip up to Ohio State, they’re getting one on the books for Syracuse and of course they’re going to hit the in-state programs.”

As I noted in another recent column, according to national analysts, Brown communicates regularly with ‘Cuse coaches. Chad Simmons, the director of recruiting at On3 , added in a story, “Head coaches from every one of his (Brown’s) top programs except for Clemson and Tennessee visited his high school in January.”

Brown, as a junior, put forth a tremendous 2023 season as a standout for Jones High School in Orlando, Fla. An excellent wide receiver and kick-off/punt returner, he tallied 1,404 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns through the air, as well as 16 total scores and more than more than 2,000 all-purpose yards.

Andrew Ivins, the director of scouting at 247Sports, recently published an intriguing evaluation of Brown that can be seen under his bio on that recruiting service’s Web site.

Numerous recruiting services, within the 2025 cycle, rank Brown in the top 250 overall , the top 40 at wide receiver and the top 40 in the talent-rich state of Florida.

Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and 247Sports also rate him in the top 15 nationwide as a multi-positional athlete within the junior class .

When discussing what his son is looking for in a future collegiate home, Brown’s dad said to Wiltfong, “The biggest thing to him is the people first and foremost. Those are the people you’re around every day. Development, putting him in position to accomplish his goal on Sunday. That’s extremely important to him. The development on and off the field. Those are the three key pieces. The people in the building, how they plan to use him to accomplish his goal on Sunday and the development on and off the field.”

Syracuse football lands QB commitment for Class of 2025

Syracuse, N.Y. —Syracuse football has landed the first quarterback commitment for the recruiting class of 2025.

Luke Carney of Dallas Christian in Mesquite, Texas announced his verbal commitment to the Orange on Monday after taking an unofficial visit to Syracuse this past weekend.

Carney is rated as a three-star prospect and the 51st best quarterback in the Class of 2025 according to the 247 composite. He is rated as a four-star QB on Rivals.

Carney had offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Boston College, BYU, California, Georgia Tech, Louisville, San Diego State, South Florida and several others.

During his junior season, Carney threw for 3,723 yards with 47 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also had 843 rushing yards. Carney has over 10,000 yards and 112 career touchdowns and has won three state titles.

Syracuse now has eight commitments in its class of 2025. The class overall is currently No. 32 in the country by the 247Sports Composite with four ranked players, all three-stars, and four unrated players.
