Hunting Areas & Game Concession

Plains Game Adventures has the exclusive right to the finest game concession in Northern Tanzania:

The area is easily reached from arusha city about 1:30 hours and 90km by road via almost all-weather roads to Nakotela camp. Between Latitudes: 36.90 and 36.83.The terrain ranges from flat plains to scattered ridges or rows of hills. The elevation ranges from 560m to 2123m above sea level. The majority of the flood plains contain black/cotton soils, but the hills have weak soils that are prone to erosion. If you’re looking for a unique gift, this is the place to be. The majority of the vegetation has adapted well to arid circumstances and recurrent droughts. Bush fires are common in the area, and are typically initiated by livestock herders to fend off pests such as ticks and tsetse fly, as well as to promote green foliage growth for their cattle.

Big Game Hunting in Tanzania

Huge wilderness areas, abundant with a vast variety of game

Tanzania is traditionally renowned for its exceptional hunting and excellent trophy quality. This country is home to the largest concentration of heavy maned Lion left in Africa, a very healthy Leopard population, vast herds of Buffalo as well as incomparably large varieties of plains game, including Roan antelope, Sable antelope, Eland, Greater Kudu and Sitatunga. Gerenuk, Lesser Kudu and Oryx occur throughout the semi-arid North East and Masai Bushbuck, Red Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck and Suni can be found in suitable high altitude habitat.

Three quarters of Tanzania's land mass is wilderness, most of which is National Park, Game Reserve or Hunting Area. The Wilderness (and the Wildlife it contains) is not fenced. The animals know no boundaries - they move freely in and out of various hunting areas.

Tanzania is a beautiful and varied country with the finest wildlife habitat remaining in Africa today with large wilderness areas of abundant game. The country and terrain vary enormously, from semi-desert in the North East, to open plains and thorn bush in the North; swamps in the North West; to Miombo woodland throughout the country. This unusual diversity creates ideal habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species.

The Classic African Safari Experience

The safari tradition originated in East Africa. Tanzania is a land of distinctions that still evokes this spirit of adventure that first attracted famous hunters, such as Roosevelt and Hemingway to Africa. It offers some of the largest hunting areas in Africa where the game is free to roam in true wilderness.

Our safari camps are incredibly comfortable and luxurious, while still retaining the charm and atmosphere of sleeping under canvas. Telling stories and sipping whiskey around the campfire at the end of a long adventurous day’s hunt, is still a huge part of a traditional Tanzanian hunting adventure with Robin Hurt Safaris.

You will not share your camp with any other guests. There are refrigerators, both in your camps and in your vehicles. All tents are roomy, insect-proof and secure. Your sleeping tent has an attached bathroom with flushing loos, running water and a verandah. Beds are large (7' long) with comfortable mattresses.

Your vehicles are all four-wheel drive Toyota Land Cruisers equipped with winches, gun racks, tools, spares, radios, fridges and first aid bags. There is a radio network between vehicles, between camps and from camps to the RHS base in Arusha.

The coastal regions, including the popular destinations of Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, are perfect for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts, with warm waters and abundant sunshine. As you move inland, the climate transitions to a more temperate one, ideal for wildlife safaris in world-renowned national parks like the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. • venancem2023 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Our travel in Tanzania was certainly easy | Trip of a lifetime!! First of all, I want to thank the company, they arranged everything, from pickup at the hotel and extra day in a hotel after a night flight, to the last day when they dropped us off at the airport again. We also asked the company to add an extra day so that we could do the coffee tour and visit the waterfall with a swim in the hot springs as an ending. I want to give five stars to our driver, Daniel. We had a phenomenal time with Daniel on our trip. The journey allowed us to see so many different animals (in addition to the big five). Our comfort was considered and we weren’t rushed as if trying to get through a checklist. He had a wealth of information about flora and fauna and had eagle eyes in spotting smaller animals. When we expressed an interest in birds, he also pointed out many of the smaller birds that it was great to know the names of. The food was wonderful and the trip was so amazing that I can’t wait to get back. In addition, he is an amazing driver and kind to his community, stopping to give water to others who were broken down. Our friendly and fun! driver Daniel was an amazing guide, and he was so knowledgeable about animals, people, culture, and everything! Ngorongoro was my favorite, but all 4 parks were so unique and beautiful, and I enjoyed the landscape of Tanzania so much. Lodges are just wonderful, people were so welcoming and friendly, and I loved the feeling of being surrounded by nature. Balloon safari was also something unforgettable. We really want to thank Kim'zebra Adventures and Safaris for making our trip so memorable! Read more Written March 23, 2023

They were extremely fast in replying and giving me all information I needed. All drivers were on time for transfers. The safari guide was able to spot all animals even kilometers away (not sure how he could do that) and the Kilimanjaro guide, chef and all porters were excellent! I hightly recommend this company. Also, their prices are quite competitive! We did 7 days lemosho route and three days safari. I highly recommend this group. I was worried about the big upfront cost but every penny was worth it. We have a generous tip at the end because the team went above and beyond. I was so hesitant to pay in cash but it worked out nicely and everyone was extremely professional. Bring extra money for tips at the end. They deserve it. The porters were incredible. Only had time for three day safari but we got to see the black rhino! Amazing! Read more Written March 21, 2023

  • jameskR3356TG 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Professional and excellent tour operator! Treated us like family from start to finish Me and my 15 friends climbed Kilimanjaro and we all together with other 8 people who we joined made a successful and cheer summit. We got a recommendation to climb with Kim’zebra Adventures & Safaris from a friend mind who climbed with this marvelous Tanzanian local company. We all completed 7-day Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro and surely we had such amazing and remarkable trip and climb that was led by our super guide, Mike. We cannot say enough good things about Mike and his team of other guides Benson, David and Hamisi, assistance guide, cooks, and porters coordinated. Mike is a guide like none other: humble, experienced, kind, and safe. He seems to know the mountain like his sitting room and knows everyone that we came across while climbing. We were well prepared based on the materials that had been sent to us before and chose our route based on acclimatization; we did also take acetazolamide. When we met Mike for our briefing the night before our climb started, he informed us that he had previously summited Kilimanjaro more than 180 times. We knew we were in good hands. But more than this, he led our group of staff and made it clear that they were not our porters, they were our supporters and that is the protocol of a company. And it was like this the entire trip. David was our lead cook and we were stunned by the great food and ongoing presence of fresh fruit, great homemade soups, and other treats like chicken, spaghetti, and banana fritters. The food was plentiful and excellent, never eaten in my entire life like I did. Summit night was challenging, but with Mike, David and Hamisi, it was memorable and successful. Sunrise at the top of Kilimanjaro was clear and spectacular. Our celebration at the end was loads of fun. Other notables were the nice toilet tent (definitely go for this) coordinated by Daniel and how our team welcomed us to camp each day with cheers, handshakes, and songs. HAKUNA MATATA and also taught us a cool say “poa kichick kama ndizi kwenu fridge” meaning “cool like banana in fridge” We really felt that not only was the climb exciting, but our time getting to know our team was a particularly special part of our experience, the songs always lifted our spirits and spurred us on . Mike and all our supporters, thank you for making this a successful and very special family experience. I would confidently recommend Kim’zebra Adventures & Safaris Ltd and this same amazing team lead by Mike for any Kilimanjaro adventure. Trip Overview

Join our breath-taking itinerary to Tanzania and discover some of Africa's best safari spots with renowned wildlife photographer, Mark B. Hatter. After an overnight stay in Arusha, the group drives south for 3 days of game drives in Tarangire National Park. It's then on to Serengeti National Park, via a tour of the famous Ngorongoro Crater. At the end of the trip, the group will fly from Kogatende back to Arusha for their outbound international flight.

Tanzania offers a huge diversity of game species and is one of the best destinations for spotting the Big 5. From the rolling planes of the Serengeti to the dramatic cliffs of the Ngorongoro Crater, the stunning scenery sets the perfect backdrop for photographing the abundant wildlife. August is an ideal time to visit when huge number of elephants, giraffes, and buffalo gather throughout Tarangire National Park, and the wildebeest migration across the Serengeti is coming to an end.

Tanzania Big Game Safari Trip Report Oct 2022

This trip is a PHOTO GROUP TRIP. It will be led by a professional or experienced photographer who will be happy to provide advice and guidance on all elements of your photography as required. The logistics of this trip mean that formal photography tutorials and workshops are not practical.

What to expect from our  Photo Group Trips

  • Photography support - Your trip leader will ensure that they spend time with everyone throughout the trip, providing advice and guidance on all elements of photography. If you have specific questions about your equipment, shot composition, or post-processing, they will be happy to support you.
  • Quality time with fellow photographers - You will meet like-minded divers or travelers with a passion for photography. Newer photographers will benefit from the experience of more advanced shooters, and those with experience can share their advice and tips with the group.
  • Suitable for everyone - New and experienced photographers are welcome on all our trips. Gain the necessary skills to start shooting great photos, increase your confidence in finding the best underwater shots, or hone specific skills. We also encourage non-photographers to join, and do our best to split groups according to skills and interests.

Enjoy free, unlimited access to a wealth of knowledge and advice from your photo instructor or trade the camera for some binoculars and observe the incredible wildlife in Africa.

Here's the schedule for this trip :

  • Day 1: Katambuga House (Weds, 6 August)
  • Arusha is the safari capital of Tanzania located at the foot of Mt. Meru, close to Mount Kilimanjaro, the Manyara, Tarangire, and Ngorongoro National Parks. From there it’s only a short trip to the Serengeti. Just to the north, on the slopes of Mt. Meru is the Arusha National Park. Built by the Germans as a center of colonial administration because of the temperate climate, Arusha is a good spot to take a day or two off from your safari.
  • Day Itinerary
  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport. After finishing passport control and customs, you are met by your Safari guide at the arrivals gate. After a brief introduction, your guide takes you to Arusha, for check-in and overnight.
  • Driving time is approx. 1.5 hours
  • Overnight:  Katambuga House
  • Day 2-4: Tarangire Safari Lodge, Tarangire National Park (Thurs, 7 August to Sat, 9 August)
  • After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania, and in the dry season, the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland gather, and not surprisingly the predators follow. This is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted. Tarangire is also known for its spectacular baobab trees and its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the mountains to the south. Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for safaris traveling through the northern circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game-controlled areas and the wildlife are allowed to move freely throughout.
  • After breakfast, depart your lodge with a packed lunch and drive to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy your day with game drives in the park and lunch at a picnic site. Late afternoon arrive at your lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight. You will stay for 2 nights with game drives.
  • This is a full-day activity. The drive from Arusha to Tarangire is about 1.5-2 hours.
  • Overnight: Tarangire Safari Lodge
  • Tarangire Safari Lodge is located within the national park boundary of Tarangire National Park, approximately 10 km away from the main entrance. Perched at the edge of a natural bluff, the lodge is renowned for its panoramic views of the Savannah and Tarangire River below, providing breathtaking scenery and game viewing. The lodge’s safari tents, with thatched roofs and large, mesh screened windows, provide the ideal opportunity to connect with the sights and sounds of nature. Each tent has a comfortable veranda, ideal for bird and game viewing, or reading a favorite book after a dusty safari. With a choice of twin, double, or triple accommodation, all tents are equipped with en suite bathrooms with solar-heated showers, ample cupboard space, and cultural touch of local textiles. The five circular bungalows, built in a similar style to the Maasai boma, offer a more spacious option for family and triple accommodation. The airy rooms are situated near a large watering hole, creating the opportunity to watch wildlife from the shaded veranda. The bungalows are set away from the main lodge, providing privacy, and all are equipped with large en suite bathrooms with solar-heated showers, and comfortable bedding made from local textiles.
  • Day 4: Ngorongoro Farm House, Karatu (Sat, 9 August)
  • After breakfast, depart your lodge with a packed lunch and drive to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy your day with game viewing and your lunch at a picnic site. Late afternoon drive to your Karatu lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight.
  • This is a full-day activity. The drive from Tarangire to Karatu is about 1.5-2 hours.
  • Overnight: Ngorongoro Farm House
  • Ngorongoro Farmhouse Lodge is situated beneath the majestic Oldeani Volcano and boasts easy access to both the untamed wilderness of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, as well as the simple pleasure of a ramble through 500 acres of farmland. Ngorongoro Farm House was inaugurated on February 20th, 2003, and is offering 52 room cottages, 49 standard rooms, and 3 suite rooms, all with ample space inside, built on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials and full of details of good taste, with the purpose of offering our clients an imaginary journey to the life of the days gone.
  • Day 5: Lake Masek Tented Lodge, Ndutu (Sun, 10 August)
  • The Ngorongoro Crater is game viewing gone crazy and it is not surprising that with is one of Tanzania’s major tourist drawcards. Within the crater rim, a daily wildlife drama is played out as large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby lions, leopards, elephants, and black rhinos. Outside of the crater, a similar drama continues in a more spread-out manner with Masai herdsmen thrown into the mix.
  • After breakfast, depart from your lodge with a packed lunch and drive through the lush Ngorongoro highlands into the Ngorongoro conservation area, descend into the Ngorongoro crater, and spend half a day on the crater with game viewing. In the afternoon ascend and drive to the Serengeti plains. Arrive at the Ndutu woodlands in the early evening, check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
  • This is a full-day activity.
  • Overnight: Lake Masek Tented Lodge
  • Lake Masek Tented Lodge is situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, overlooking Lake Masek. The unique location is witness to the wildebeest migration which takes place from December to April each year. There is resident Big 5 game all year round in the area. The camp is Eco friendly, all the electric power is supplied by solar panels and water is collected during the rainy season. All the products used are biodegradable in order to ensure that the environment is kept pristine. Guest accommodations feature 20 luxury tents with en suite facilities and either king-sized beds, twins, or triple beds. Each tent is built on a raised wooden platform with a veranda from which guests can observe the wildlife visiting Lake Masek. The bedroom area is ample and tastefully furnished. The bathroom area with twin washbasins, a standalone bath, and an outside shower is separated from the bedroom area by way of a screen. Guests can enjoy a relaxing bath or take a shower under the stars.
  • Day 6: Kati Kati Tented Camp, Central Serengeti (Mon, 11 August)
  • The Serengeti together with Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park forms Africa’s most famous wildlife park. The image of acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomizes Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation needs to go no further. The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. But that is not where the game viewing ends; large prides of lions, elephants, and giraffes in grasslands, gazelles, and eland to mention but a few. Aside from traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Serengeti plains has become almost essential and you can even do a horseback safari.
  • After breakfast, depart your lodge with a packed lunch and drive through ndutu woodland.  Explore the short and long grass plains, the river valleys, and the woodlands. Late afternoon arrive at your lodge in the central Serengeti for dinner and Overnight. You will stay for 1 night with game drives.
  • Overnight: Kati Kati Tented Camp
  • The camp offers comfortable accommodation and a unique opportunity to enjoy a real safari camp experience. The camp is only a two-hour scenic drive from Olduvai Gorge Museum and Grumeti River. A cozy mess tent is located in the center of the camp where meals are served. The campfire is ready every evening for appetizers and snacks before dinner. 10 tents with en suite facilities. There are several airstrips in the National Park that receive scheduled flights from Arusha as well as charter flights.
  • Day 7-11: Esirai Migration Camp Northern Serengeti, Northern Serengeti (Tues, 12 August to Sat, 16 August)
  • The vast, rolling savannah of the Northern Serengeti, is known as the hub of the great migration. The landscape is characterized by vast stretches of savannah interspersed with acacia trees and riverine woodlands. Wildlife can be seen along the banks of the Mara River and visitors can view the annual spectacle of the half a million migrating wildebeest. Commonly spotted wildlife include: a multitude of plains game such as buffalo, zebra, gazelles, impala, giraffe as well as lion and leopard. Visitors can look forward to bird watching, hot air ballooning, game safaris, and guided bush walks.
  • After breakfast, depart your lodge with a packed lunch and drive through the Serengeti plains heading north. Explore the long grass plains the river valleys and the woodlands. Late afternoon arrive at your lodge in the northern Serengeti for dinner and Overnight. You will stay for 4 nights at Esirai Migration Camp with game drives.
  • Overnight: Esirai Migration Camp Northern Serengeti
  • Migration Camping is about total privacy with no other camp for miles around. The tents are spacious and comfortable offering the perfect blend of mobility and comfort, the sites are wildlife-rich and scenically beautiful and the dining caters to your personal needs with a private chef, a well-appointed mess tent, and free consumption bar.
  • Classic mobile camping is the best standard of mobile camping in Tanzania; in the grand style of the traditional East African safaris, once the privilege of royals. Large, comfortable, and beautifully furnished mobile tents, with en-suite toilets and hot showers. It is a private home away from home in the bush and is ideal for anyone who wants the ultimate in comfort, mobility, and exclusivity, offering a more flexible wilderness and wildlife viewing experience than any lodge can give!
  • The camp is fully lit by solar lighting, the kitchen is equipped with a gas freezer and fridge, and a generator serves as a backup for any emergency. The camp is run with strict adherence to eco principles, all cooking is done on gas and bio-briquettes brought in from our head office.
  • Day 11: End of Itinerary (Sat, 16 August)
  • Fly from the Serengeti to Arusha Airport. A transfer vehicle awaits you at Arusha airport to take you for lunch. After lunch, you are transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport to connect with your international flight.

ABOUT THE TRIP LEADER

tanzania big game safaris arusha

Mark has traveled the world in pursuit of new underwater photography challenges, including cold-water destinations such as British Columbia and even Antarctica in January 2018.

“Of course, I love shooting in tropical locations but I think cold water diving is a great forcing function to hone one’s photography skills as the environment and equipment are much more demanding of a diver.  Good image capture in cold water is particularly rewarding.” Mark tells us.

Mark has been shooting underwater since the early 1980s and has worked in both film and digital mediums in his photojournalism pursuits.  In 35 years of diving, Mark has logged over 2000 hours, much of it doing underwater photography.  Currently, he teaches underwater photography classes locally at Seminole Scuba in Lake Mary, Florida.  More about Mark here.

Travel Information & what to pack

Bring comfortable clothes and dress modestly to respect the local people and culture. Be prepared with clothes both for warm weather conditions on the plains and colder temperatures on the hilly and mountainous areas. Also, the early mornings and evenings can be surprisingly cool!  Wear neutral-colored clothes on safaris and especially in lighter tones or khaki as the tsetse flies are attracted to dark colors. We also recommend packing light. Most of the lodging offers laundry services at an extra cost, but many of them also do only hand washing and don't accept underwear.

FOOD & WATER

We recommend bringing your own water bottle as many lodges and camps have a water dispenser to fill  your bottle with drinking water. To support the community, local produce is used as much as possible. Trying new foods will be part of the experience!

ELECTRICITY

Electricity supplies in rural areas are mostly provided by generators or solar panels. Though the camps and lodges can provide lighting and power in guest rooms, most of the rooms do not have electricity sockets. Ask about the charging facilities in the accommodations. The electricity supply in Tanzania is 200 volts/AC50Hz. The plugs do vary and we recommend taking multi-adapters to cope with 3 square pin sockets and 2 round pin sockets.

LOCAL CURRENCY

The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling. All international airports have money-changing facilities and there are banks and ATMs available, but we recommend changing your money upon arrival as it is more difficult to change money whilst on safari. Credit cards are accepted in larger hotels and restaurants, but it is preferable to travel with cash.

Flight Information

  • Guests will be picked up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to a lodge for an overnight stay.
  • For the outgoing flight, guests will also be transferred from the accommodations to the airport.
  • Luggage allowance on the domestic flight from Kogatende to Arusha is 20kg. Additional weight is $3/kg and MUST be booked in advance.
  • The recommended arrival time to JRO airport is at 2 PM and the earliest departure time from JRO at 5 PM.
  • If you have any questions, please email us . We will arrange your transport to the resort.

OVERVIEW: SAFARI IN ARUSHA

Let’s start this guide with the essentials you should know before visiting, such as the best time to visit, where to book, and other important information.

ARUSHA SAFARI STATS

  • Size : 552km² / 213mi²
  • Altitude : 1,280-4,217m / 4,199-13,835ft

IS ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK WORTH VISITING?

Yes, Arusha National Park is definitely worth visiting. While it might not be the first choice for those seeking the “Big Five,” you’ll love its unique features.

The park offers opportunities for hiking and canoeing, which are not commonly found in other Tanzanian parks.

Also, you may be able to see flamingos and colobus monkeys, which are less common in other parks.

CAN YOU DO AN ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI ON YOUR OWN?

Unlike other places in Tanzania like Tarangire National Park , you need a guide to visit Arusha National Park.

This is for your safety and to enhance your experience as these guides are knowledgeable about the park’s flora and fauna.

And let’s face it – everything is much more enjoyable when you know where to go with an experienced guide!

For a budget safari, you can expect to pay around $150 per person per day. On the other hand, for a more premium experience, you will find safaris for over $1,000 per person per day.

A mid-range option falls somewhere in between at around $300 to $500 per person per day.

I recommend the 1-day Arusha National Park Safari with Altezza Travel which costs $263 per person for a group of 5 people, or $444 per person for a couple.

HOW LONG DOES A SAFARI IN ARUSHA TANZANIA TAKE?

Normally, a visit to Arusha National Park is a one-day trip, providing a compact yet diverse introduction to Tanzanian wildlife.

That being said, the most popular safaris are multi-day experiences, often lasting 3 days or more. These safaris typically include multiple national parks.

BEST TIME TO VISIT ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK?

The best time for wildlife viewing in Arusha National Park is during the dry season, from late June to October.

During these months, animals are easier to spot as they gather around water sources. The vegetation is also thinner, which means it’s easier to see the animals and take photos.

The weather during this period is typically better, with average daytime temperatures around 21°C (70°F), dropping to around 9°C (48°F) at night.

MY EXPERIENCE ON THE ARUSHA SAFARI

After our Kilimanjaro trek , we were transferred by the Altezza Travel crew to Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge located just outside of Arusha National Park.

We spent one night here, and at around 7:30 am the morning after, our safari guide arrived at the hotel.

From the lodge, we began our journey to the entrance gate at Arusha National Park, a short 30-minute drive.

Arusha National Park

The first activity was a 1.5-hour walking safari with a guide and armed ranger around a section of the park.

We spotted countless wildlife such as warthogs, buffaloes, baboons, and giraffes to name a few, then we continued to check out the beautiful Tululusia Waterfall.

Arusha National Park 4

After the walking safari, we drove around the stunning Momella Lakes filled with pink flamingos, and then stopped for lunch at a picnic site overlooking Mount Meru.

We continued our Arusha National Park safari with a 2-hour game drive, spotting many more animal species and seeing some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve seen in Africa.

Here is a quick overview of what to pack for a safari in Arusha National Park;

Clothing: Comfort is key on a safari. Pack lightweight cotton clothes, long-sleeved shirts, and pants to protect against mosquitoes. I suggest packing layered clothing, as mornings and evenings can be cool while days are warm.

Arusha National Park Safari

tanzania big game safaris arusha

Arusha National Park Safari is one of the greatest safari and tour park destinations in Tanzania . Arusha National Park, just a few kilometers from Arusha town and Kilimanjaro International Airport , is a one-of-a-kind park that offers visitors a unique experience. Despite the fact that the Arusha national park is not as well-known as other Tanzanian parks such as the Serengeti , Ngorongoro, Tarangire , Lake Manyara, and Mount Kilimanjaro national park, it is one of the few parks with more attractions, and safaris to this area have never disappointed visitors. I cannot guarantee that your experience at Arusha National Park, such as wildlife viewing, will be comparable to that of the famed Serengeti National Par k, but you can rest assured that it will be unique and of more satisfaction.

The largest populations of giraffes, the fifth largest mountain in Africa (Mount Meru), and the unique vegetation and landscape (the park has more than four types of vegetation supporting a greater diversity of wild animals and bird species) are just a few of the attractions in Arusha National Park. Due to its small size, Arusha national park is considered a day trip safari destination, but for visitors with a larger budget, a safari to Arusha national park can take up to one week to explore all of the park’s beauty, from four days hiking to Mount Meru to canoeing safaris to walking safaris, and so on.

Arusha National Park is a small park with a wide range of safari options. Wildlife safaris, which can be done on a game drive or a walking safari, hiking safaris , which involve a four-day hike to Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second largest mountain, horseback riding safaris , which can be done within the park, city tour safaris, and cultural tours are all available in the Arusha national park. It is a tiny park with many tours that might make you stay in this park if you want to see all of the gorgeous areas of this park, yet some people claim that it is only a one-day safari tour, which is true if you’re only doing one tourist activity like game drives.

A wildlife safari in Arusha National Park

This is one of the Tanzania safari and tourist experience given by the Arusha National Park. Arusha National Park is home to a variety of wild creatures that may be seen roaming freely within the park, with giraffe populations being particularly high when compared to the park’s other species. The park contains a diverse range of habitats and plants, which support a diverse range of wild creatures, making a wildlife safari to this national park both memorable and magnificent. Giraffe, Cape buffalo, zebra, warthog, black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkey, flamingo, elephant, bushbuck, and many other African wildlife can be found in the Arusha national park.

The park also features predators, including two members of the Big Five, such as leopards and lions, but they are rarely observed in comparison to herbivores. The forest’s birdlife is abundant, with many forest species more easily observed here than elsewhere along the tourist route. Narina trogon and bar-tailed trogon are two probable highlights for visiting birders, while a variety of starling species provide less dazzling interest.

Game drives , which are divided into early morning game drives, late afternoon game drives, and night game drives, each with their own distinct experience in animal viewing, are available in the Arusha national park. Walking safaris are also available for wildlife watching, allowing tourists to get up close and personal with the Arusha national park’s habitats, plants, and wild animals. Another wildlife safari and game viewing activity in the park is canoeing, which is done at Momella Lake. This not only allows you to see animals while on a safari boat, but it also provides you with a good opportunity to see flamingos because the lake has larger populations of flamingos.

Arusha national park hiking safari

This is another safari in the Arusha national park; unlike other national parks, the Arusha national park offers both animal and hiking safaris , which can be combined or done independently. Mount Meru , Tanzania’s second tallest peak and Africa’s fifth largest, is located in the Arusha national park, giving hikers the opportunity to put their physical talents to the test. Mount Meru is a 4566-meter active volcano located 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro. It takes a maximum of four days to climb to the top and return. Some argue that Meru is actually more difficult, and it is certainly quieter. As a result, there is a lot more wildlife to observe, and the sense of isolation and solitude is much stronger than on the surrounding, more well-known summit.

The mountain is the focal point of Arusha National Park, and its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding grassland, supporting a forest that is home to a varied range of wildlife, including approximately 400 bird species, as well as monkeys and leopards. As they approach and climb the mountain, hikers will be able to witness a variety of species. Mount Meru’s ascent is fairly steep in sections, and the path to the summit passes through grasslands, tropical rainforest, alpine meadows, moorlands, and desert uplands before reaching snow. A thin, barren slope leads to the peak, which offers spectacular views of the Ash Cone, which lies several hundred feet below in the crater.

Arusha National Park horse riding safari.

This is another Arusha national park safari offered by various companies. Horseback riding is a unique type of activity and attraction in Tanzania , and it is only offered by a few firms and is only available in a few national parks, including Arusha, Lake Manyara, and the Serengeti. The dense vegetation of Arusha National Park is home to a large number of big game, several primate species, including the black and white colobus monkey, flamingos, and numerous birds. This horse ride is suitable for intermediate and experienced riders due to the resident big game in the forest and glades.

The majority of horseback rides to Arusha National Park begin at Ngongongare Gate and take you through the lower half of the park. The main goal is to see scenery and game from a horse, and the riding pace is sluggish due to the terrain and dense forest. The horseback riding path will take you into the Little Serengeti, where you will likely see buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and antelope. In addition, the ride will take you up into the forest, where you will enjoy a saddle snack lunch in a beautiful setting. You must be able to react to the movement of wildlife that may frighten the horse throughout the journey to Arusha National Park. Because you may be compelled to gallop out of difficulty, these rides require an “intermediate” level of competence.

Arusha national park Cultural safaris and city tours

Another Arusha national park safari that can be done just outside the park’s boundaries. The cultural and city tour in Arusha includes visits to the Waarusha and Maasai tribes , which are located adjacent to the Arusha national park, as well as visits to local farms, such as coffee farms, where you can meet and interact with locals and learn about how they practice local farming and cultivation. The cultural/city tour in the Arusha national park can be added to your safari package and itinerary at the end of your hiking and wildlife safaris in the Arusha national park.

Arusha national park safari you will be able to see different tourist attractions such as wild animals, birds, mount meru, Momella lakes, ngurdoto crater, different waterfalls, the Serengeti Ndogo, uwanja wa mbogo etc. but also you will get a chance of doing different tourism activities such as hiking, walking safaris, game drives, canoeing etc.
