Taylor Swift Shares 'Long Live' Performance Clip and Releases Extended Eras Tour Film on Her 34th Birthday

The crowds in stands went wild for Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour — and now they can do the same from home.

On Wednesday, the pop superstar released an extended version of her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (available to rent via video on demand services) in honor of her 34th birthday and posted to Instagram to thank fans for their support.

The extended version of the Eras Tour movie features performances of Lover 's "The Archer," 1989 's "Wildest Dreams" and Speak Now 's "Long Live," which were previously omitted from its theatrical release. To celebrate the film's at-home availability, Swift premiered a clip of the "Long Live" performance on TODAY and later shared the video to Instagram alongside a sweet caption.

"I had the time of my life fighting dragons with youuuu," she wrote, referencing track's lyrics. "Celebrate 34 with me by watching The Eras Tour (Extended Version) including 'Long Live' 🐉 'The Archer' 🏹 and 'Wildest Dreams' 🩵 at home!"

Swift continued, poking fun at fans' feedback regarding her social media posting style: "PS troll me all you want about my excessive and literal millennial emoji use but A) no one’s prouder to be a millennial and B) it’s my bday and today I am exempt! 🎂"

Earlier this week, Swift also premiered a clip of "The Archer" from the film on TODAY , which saw her dressed in her  pastel-colored Atelier Versace bodysuit as she sang the lyrics: “Combat, I'm ready for combat / I say I don't want that, but what if I do? / 'Cause cruelty wins in the movies / I've got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you."

John Shearer/Getty

Originally, the cinematic version of Swift’s career-spanning 2023 tour came in at just over 2 hours and 45 minutes, shortened from the live show runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes. Now, the  Extended Version  is about 15 minutes longer.

As the concert film directed by Sam Wrench was shot over the course of her August performances at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, a handful of other portions of the setlist still won’t be included in the on-demand version. “Cardigan” and “No Body, No Crime” with  Haim , played at the L.A. dates, won’t be included, and other songs from the tour like “Invisible String,” “Nothing New” with  Phoebe Bridgers , the “Seven” interlude and “'Tis the Damn Season” also won’t be featured.

The  Midnights  artist announced  The Eras Tour (Extended Version)  in late November when she revealed that it would be available to rent at home starting on Dec. 13 in honor of her 34th birthday.

At the time, she shared the news by posting a clip of “Wildest Dreams” from her concert on  social media . In the caption she wrote, “Well, so, basically I have a birthday coming up and I was thinking a fun way to celebrate the year we’ve had together would be to make The Eras Tour Concert Film available for you to watch at home!”

She continued, “Very happy to be able to tell you that the extended version of the film including ‘Wildest Dreams,’ ‘The Archer’ and ‘Long Live’ will be available to rent on demand in the US, Canada & additional countries to be announced soon starting on
you guessed it, December 13 🫶💋.”

Everything You'll Want to Know About Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Concert Film

Swifties rejoice: you can finally relive the Eras Tour in your living room.

taylor swift long live tour

I am a die-hard Swiftie . Over the past decade of my life, I've analyzed her endless Easter eggs, had Taylor top my Spotify Wrapped for years, and you better believe I checked out the Eras Tour this summer. The concert was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I made and traded friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties and sang every word to every song while I was at the show. I even went to the Eras Tour concert film and relived every second of the extravaganza.

Swift's highly anticipated concert flick premiered in theaters earlier this fall, and it smashed records. CNBC  reported  that it's the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever, bringing in between $95 million and $97 million. Recently, Swift announced that the Eras Tour will be coming to living rooms, as the film has been released for rent on several on-demand services.

If you got snubbed in that Ticketmaster debacle , or if you just want to relive the magic that was the Eras Tour, I've got you covered with all the important information you'll want to know before attending from the comfort of your own home.

For more entertainment-related fare, here are  10 things you can do to save money on streaming , and here are the best smart TVs of 2023 .

What is the Eras Tour?

Swift's stadium tour swept through more than a dozen US cities plus Mexico City this summer. The Eras Tour is a love letter to her impressive musical career and the fans who have seen her through it. The numbers indicate the tour draws massive public appeal. The tour is projected to gross $1 billion , including Swift's overseas tour next spring.

That billion dollars is, by all accounts, a fantastic measure of Swift's power, but it doesn't even account for the thousands of fans who attended her concerts from parking lots and bridges outside of the concert venues this year. Already, Swift's journey around the US has proved an economic boon to host cities.

So, what is the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film?

Filmed over her Los Angeles dates at the SoFi stadium, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a two-hour, 45-minute chronicle of her hit tour. For fans who are familiar with the tour, this raises some questions as to what has been cut from the film. The concert I attended ran for about 3 hours, but by the end of the tour, it was about three and a half hours long. Curious fans finally have their answers.

The film had its premiere on Oct. 11, and we finally know what's been cut. Be warned, I'm going to get into some major spoilers for the concert film, so if you want to be surprised while you watch, just skip this section.

It looks like Swift has nixed five songs from the setlist she performed the nights she recorded the film. Entertainment Weekly reports that the songs No Body, No Crime; Long Live; Wildest Dreams; The Archer and Cardigan were all cut from the concert film. Fans of Long Live do have some recompense; it plays over tour bloopers and videos of fans during the credits.

Of the six surprise songs she recorded (Swift performs these during the rotating acoustic portion of the show), the songs Our Song and You're On Your Own, Kid ended up making the final cut. Fans can also expect to see shortened costume changes and transitions between Swift's different eras in the film.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in theaters?

Swift's concert film hit theaters worldwide on Oct. 13. According to Insider, the film had to be shown in theaters for four weeks following its release. Insider said Swift circumvented Hollywood studios and negotiated the film's distribution directly with AMC, allowing her to have more control. Time has reported that Swift's concert film has brought home an impressive $248.9 million at the box office, cementing itself as the highest-grossing concert film at the US box office. Given this accomplishment, it's safe to say the concert film will be hanging around theaters for a while.

How can I get Swift movie tickets?

You can buy tickets to the concert film where you would ordinarily buy tickets to most movies, either online or at an in-person box office.

Swift's website has links to sites where you can buy tickets through AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Fandango. You could check your local indie theater's website too, to see whether it's showing the concert film.

Fan reaction to ticket sales was swift (pardon the pun). Wanda Gierhart Fearing,  Cinemark 's chief marketing and content officer, told me that the company saw "frenzied traffic to [its] website and app the moment tickets went on sale" and that "we are ready for Swifties to be enchanted by this concert film in the unprecedented number of auditoriums we have booked to meet demand."

How much do tickets cost?

Adult tickets go for $19.89, which is a nod to the year of Swift's birth and the title of her fifth studio album, 1989. Fans also know that the album 1989 is about to get the Taylor's Version treatment, with the artist's rerecording of the album dropping 14 days after the film hits theaters. Seniors and children's tickets go for $13.13, a nod to Swift's lucky number.

Right now, it's unclear whether subscribers to paid theater subscriptions like Regal Unlimited will be able to use the deals available to them on tickets for this film, given the special pricing. In a FAQ on AMC's website, the company said that this film is excluded from the company's A-List program's reservation feature.

Cinemark confirmed to CNET that members of the Cinemark Movie Club can apply all standard benefits of the membership.

Can I treat this like a normal concert?

While a concert film can be exciting and almost feel like a real concert, it's best practice to be respectful of other theatergoers both in your showing and in other showings at the theater.

This doesn't mean you can't keep up with other Eras Tour practices, like wearing a fun costume based on Swift's songs and lyrics or making and trading friendship bracelets with other Swifties. You could even quietly sing along and dance in your seat, as long as you're considerate of viewers around you and don't interrupt others' viewing experience.

If you're attending the film at an AMC theater, then you're in luck. The company has provided you with guidelines for how to behave during the film -- and it all boils down to being respectful of those around you.

I saw the concert film at an indie theater, and in my experience, people were pretty quiet during the film. There was no singing loud enough for me to detect, and the only people who danced in my theater were several smaller children. Based on my experience, I recommend going in with the expectation of watching this film just like you would any other movie.

If you just have to sing and dance along to all of your favorite Taylor Swift hits (which I totally understand the urge to do) you do have some options. In a press release distributed to CNET, Cinemark announced Private Swiftie Parties -- an extension of its Private Watch Parties offering -- that allow fans to reserve an entire auditorium for singing and dancing. In the release, Fearing said "our larger-than-life screens and captivating surround sound deliver a most enchanting environment to sing and dance along with friends and family to the concert of the decade." Right now, these Private Swiftie Parties are on sale on Cinemark's website and app. The watch parties are available at participating locations for $800 and can accommodate up to 40 fans.

How can I watch the concert film at home?

This week, Swift announced that the Eras Tour concert film, extended version, will be available to rent on Dec. 13 (none other than the singer's birthday) on Apple TV, Vudu, Prime Video, Xfinity, Google Play and YouTube. Fans can expect some extra content from the extended version, with previously cut songs Wildest Dreams, The Archer and Long Live being added back in. Renting the concert film will set you back $19.89, and you'll be able to stream the film for 48 hours.

There's not an exact date on when we can expect the concert film on streaming services, although TV Line reports that Swift can't put her concert film on streaming platforms for 13 weeks after the film comes out. Jan. 12, 2024, would be the earliest possible date the film could wind up on a streaming service.

As a seasoned Swiftie, my recommendation is to keep a close eye on any hints Swift might give over the next few months for a streaming release date. Her well-known Easter eggs have given fans clues to album release dates and music video drops, so it's possible she'll use one to reveal the film's streaming debut.

Taylor Swift Officially Added 'Long Live' To The Eras Tour Setlist, And The Swiftie Reactions Are Giving Me Major Chills

Remember this moment.

If you’re a longtime Swiftie, chances are you know how much “Long Live” means to Taylor Swift and her fans. It’s one of the singer’s sweetest tunes, as it was written for her band and fans as a tribute. With Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) out in the world, after she announced the album release during a show in May , Swift has been showing more love to the songs on that album during her Eras Tour. Now, I'm getting chills seeing footage from her Friday show in Denver, Colorado, where “Long Live” officially joined the tour’s setlist.

The tour is split up into sections, in which the songstress focuses on playing songs from the album of a specific time and has a stunning Eras outfit to go with each. For all the dates prior, she comes out in a big purple ball gown just to sing “Enchanted,” before leaving the stage and changing into her Red era outfit. But last night, she stayed in the dress to play “Long Live” too. Check out the moment, via TikTok along with a fan's totally relatable caption:

@katiejryder ♬ original sound - Katie Ryder

Taylor Swift sort of faked out fans by briefly walking away from the audience after “Enchanted,” before looking back, putting her guitar on and speaking directly to concertgoers about her love for them. She thanked the fans for all the “support” they’ve shown Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) over the past week, especially since it is part of the artist’s continued effort to “reclaim” her music. You can check out Taylor Swift playing the full song below, and the crowd collectively sings along:

@daisyl080 ♬ original sound - Daisy

Denver getting to see “Long Live” live while Taylor Swift was in her Speak Now dress marks the third time the singer has done so in the tour, making it clear that it’s here to stay now. And no, it wasn’t one of the Eras' surprise songs , because there’s a separate section of the concert where Taylor Swift sits at a piano and plays two tracks not on the setlist. During Denver Night 1, she played “Picture To Burn” from her debut album and “Timeless,” which is one of the vault songs she just released last week on her latest album.

It looked like an absolutely magical moment during the evening, and dare I say, the crowd was “wonderstruck” over the 33-year-old Grammy winner playing “Long Live” for the crowd. I have absolute goosebumps at this video of Swifties collectively pointing at Taylor Swift as she sings the line “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.” Check it:

@whitneymedworth ♬ original sound - whitney m

But with all the excitement, we do have to give a moment of silence for the Swifties who have already seen the Eras Tour and didn’t get to see the fan-favorite song sung by Ms. Taylor live prior to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) coming out. As one fan lamented:

@bethany13pendleton ♬ Long Live (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift

Even so, it looks like Taylor Swift, being the mastermind she is, is crafting all sorts of surprises for fans as the tour goes on, and the setlist is expected to change as she takes the Eras tour to South America, Japan, Australia and Europe across the next year. As more upcoming Taylor Swift music arrives, like the soon-to-be-released Reputation (Taylor’s Version) , 1989 and her debut album, you'll want to keep an eye out for exciting happenings on the Eras Tour. And after seeing these tour videos, I’ll be belting “Long Live” for the rest of the day with a hairbrush as a microphone. How about you?

Taylor Swift 'Long Live' Finally Added To 'The Eras' Tour Setlist As 'Speak Now' Debuts #1

Taylor Swift

For those who have been with Taylor Swift since the mid to late 2000s, you would probably know what "Long Live" meant and why it is one of her most underrated songs on "Speak Now."

Now that the album has finally been re-recorded and debuted again at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart like its original version, Taylor Swift seemed to have finally added the song to her official setlist at "The Eras" Tour.

Taylor Swift rocked the last night of "The Eras" Tour in Denver, Colorado with a powerful addition of another "Speak Now" song on its "era."

Before, "Enchanted" was the only song from "Speak Now," but it seemed like "Long Live" has finally been added to the mix. (via Cinema Blend )

In the now-viral videos, Swift can be seen faking out as she briefly walked away from the audience after singing "Enchanted." As she looked back, she put her guitar on and spoke directly to the packed Empower Field, thanking the fans for the support they have shown for the release of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in the past week.

Swift just re-released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," the third re-recorded version of her album, following "Red (Taylor's Version)" and "Fearless (Taylor's Version)."

The song first debuted at her Kansas shows the other week, aside from her weekly surprise songs. On Denver's 2-day show, Swift performed "Picture To Burn" from the debut album and "Timeless" from "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" a from the vault song. On her second day, she performed "Starlight" from "Red" and "Back To December" from "Speak Now."

Taylor Swift 'Long Live' Lyrics Meaning

According to Genius , Taylor Swift has always referred the "Long Live" lyrics as a "love letter" to her fans.

"This song is about my band, and my producer, and all the people who have helped us build this brick by brick," she previously wrote on her blog, as quoted by Genius .

"The fans, the people who I feel that we are all in this together, this song talks about the triumphant moments that we've had in the last two years," she added. "'Long Live' is about how I feel reflecting on it. This song for me is like looking at a photo album of all the award shows, and all the stadium shows, and all the hands in the air in the crowd. It's sort of the first love song that I've written to my team."

The full Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is finally coming to streaming — with 4 bonus surprise songs

"Cardigan" and four songs from the acoustic set will be included in the "Taylor's Version" cut of the movie, which is heading to Disney+.

taylor swift long live tour

It's Swiftmas in February!

Just days after announcing her 11th studio album , The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has unveiled the long-awaited streaming plans for her blockbuster Eras Tour concert film .

Disney+ announced Wednesday that it will be the exclusive streaming home of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , a cut of the film that will present the concert in its entirety for the first time. The new version of the movie, which also includes the song "Cardigan" and four additional acoustic songs, will make its streaming debut March 15. Swift shared the news on social media shortly after Disney's announcement.

The Eras Tour film, directed by Sam Wrench, grossed more than $260 million at the global box office, making it the top selling concert film of all time.

Buda Mendes/TAS23/Getty Images

In making the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+."

The film debuted in theaters Oct. 13, and noticeably excluded five songs from the Eras Tour set list as it was performed in Los Angeles in August, when the film was shot: "No Body No Crime," "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer," "Cardigan" and "Long Live." When it later headed to VOD rentals on Swift's birthday on Dec. 13, a new version of the film featured the performances of "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer" and "Long Live" tacked on at the end, but not the other two songs.

Given that this new Taylor's Version of the film is being touted as being shown "in its entirety for the first time," it stands to reason that all the missing tracks will finally take their rightful place in the film, in addition to four additional acoustic songs. But since "No Body No Crime" is not explicitly mentioned and "Cardigan" is, it would appear "NBNC"will likely be the only song to not make the cut, presumably since it was a performance with Haim unique to only a small handful of Eras Tour dates, and the concert film is more inclusive of the tour as a whole.

As for the four new acoustic performances in the film, on each of the three nights the concert was filmed in L.A., Swift performed two different surprise songs during the acoustic set, meaning there were six different possibilities for the film in that section of the show. In the original theatrical and and VOD rental versions, only "You're On Your Own, Kid" and "Our Song" made the cut. That means that the remaining acoustic performances of "I Can See You," "Maroon," "You Are in Love," and "Death by a Thousand Cuts" will likely be in the film somewhere.

[Verse 1] I said, "Remember this moment" In the back of my mind The time we stood with our shaking hands The crowds in stands went wild We were the kings and the queens And they read off our names The night you danced like you knew our lives would Never be the same You held your head like a hero on a history book page It was the end of a decade But the start of an age [Chorus] Long live the walls we crashed through How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made" And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered [Verse 2] I said, "Remember this feeling" I pass the pictures around Of all the years that we stood there on the sidelines Wishing for right now We are the kings and the queens You traded your baseball cap for a crown When they gave us our trophies And we held them up for our town And the cynics were outraged Screaming, "This is absurd" 'Cause for a moment, a band of thieves in ripped up jeans Got to rule the world [Chorus] Long live the walls we crashed through How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made" And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid Long live all the mountains we moved I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you I was screaming, "Long live that look on your face" And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered [Bridge] Hold on to spinning around Confetti falls to the ground May these memories break our fall Will you take a moment? Promise me this That you'll stand by me forever But if, God forbid, fate should step in And force us into a goodbye If you have children some day When they point to the pictures Please tell 'em my name Tell 'em how the crowds went wild Tell 'em how I hope they shine Long live the walls we crashed through I had the time of my life with you [Chorus] Long, long live the walls we crashed through How the kingdom lights shined just for me and you And I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made" And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid Singing, "Long live all the mountains we moved" I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you And long, long live that look on your face And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered

[Verse 1: Paula Fernandes] Lembrei desse sentimento Gritando dentro de nĂłs Éramos todos meninos Em cada um, vivia uma paixĂŁo Como uma cena de um filme Vencemos pesadelos enfrentando os dragĂ”es Criados por nossos medos Fruto da imaginação [Pre-Chorus: Paula Fernandes] De frente a uma nova era Na onda de uma canção NĂłs construĂmos histĂłria Mente, alma e coração [Chorus: Paula Fernandes & Taylor Swift] Long live the walls we crashed through All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered" [Verse 2: Taylor Swift] I said, "Remember this feeling" I passed the pictures around Of all the years that we stood there On the side-lines, wishing for right now We are the kings and the queens You traded your baseball cap for a crown When they gave us our trophies And we held them up for our town [Pre-Chorus: Paula Fernandes] De frente a uma nova era Na onda de uma canção NĂłs construĂmos histĂłria Mente, alma e coração [Chorus: Paula Fernandes & Taylor Swift] Long live the walls we crashed through All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid" Long live all the mountains we moved I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you I was screaming, "Long live that look on your face And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered" [Bridge: Paula Fernandes, Taylor Swift & Both] Hold on to spinning around Confetti falls to the ground May these memories break our fall Lembrei do momento Que fiz promessa pra nĂłs dois Pintando o nosso destino Puro, simples, pleno e sem fim Que fosse assim sem um goodbye Fosse para sempre "Eu cheguei" POs sonhos que construĂmos Me vi feliz, eu te achei SerĂĄ muito mais que achar SerĂĄ muito alĂ©m de pensar Long live the walls we crashed through I had the time of my life with you [Chorus: Taylor Swift with Paula Fernandes] Long, long live the walls we crashed through All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you I was screaming, "Long live all the magic we made And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid" Singing, long live all the mountains we moved I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you And long, long live that look on your face And bring on all the pretenders One day, we will be remembered

Screen Rant

Taylor swift's restored speak now song in the eras tour movie missed a huge opportunity for other cut songs.

A Speak Now-era song that was cut from the theatrical version returns in Disney+'s Eras Tour movie, but missed a chance to restore a different track.

  • Disney+ restored "Long Live" in The Eras Tour, leading to missed opportunity to switch credits song.
  • Two missing songs from the filmed concerts could have replaced "Long Live (Taylor's Version)" over the credits.
  • Despite not being in the movie, Taylor Swift's performances of "no body, no crime" and "seven (Interlude)" could still be added later.

Disney+’s The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) restored a setlist song from Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album that was removed from the film’s theatrical release, which missed an opportunity to add back another cut track. Though the theatrical version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour cut several songs from the concert series’ playlist, the Disney+ iteration of the film included a few surprises by adding back most of these beloved songs . Still, two Taylor Swift songs remained missing from those that were performed on the Los Angeles dates when the movie was filmed.

Among the most beloved songs cut from the movie’s theatrical version was “Long Live,” which meant that the 2023 film’s only Speak Now era song was “Enchanted.” However, the Disney+ version of the film added “Long Live” back into its original slot from the concert , placing it right after “Enchanted” and before “22” in The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) ’s 48-song setlist . Though “Long Live” returning to its setlist placement is exciting, the fact that the song technically plays twice in the Disney+ film creates a big missed opportunity.

Taylor Swift Restoring "Long Live" Means The Eras Tour Movie's Credits Could Have Played A Different Cut Song

While Swift’s performance of “Long Live” was missing from its place in the setlist for the theatrical cut of The Eras Tour movie, the recording of “Long Live (Taylor’s Version)” played over the closing credits . This was presumably a way to make up for the performance of the track originally being cut from the movie, but it remained the song played for the Disney+ version’s closing credits as well. However, after restoring “Long Live” to the main setlist, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) had the perfect opportunity to replace the credits' song with one of the two tracks that were still cut from the streaming movie.

10 Taylor Swift Songs I Really Wish Were In The Eras Tour Movie

After three versions of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie , the only two songs cut from each one are “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude).” Both songs were filmed considering they were performed on the Los Angeles August 3–5 dates, but neither made it into the movie – even as recordings for the credits. It’s likely that “no body, no crime” was cut because it features HAIM performing alongside Swift, thus taking away from the film being exclusive to Taylor Swift and her backup dancers, vocalists, and musicians . Meanwhile, “seven (Interlude)” may not have made it because the song is performed as a spoken poem interlude.

“seven (Interlude)” may not have made it because the song is performed as a spoken poem interlude.

Disney+ Could Still Release "No Body No Crime" & "Seven (Interlude)" After Being Cut From The Eras Tour Movie

Despite being absent from the movie itself, Taylor Swift’s performances of “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude)” from her So-Fi Stadium appearances could potentially still find their way onto Disney+. Since the performances were already filmed, it’s possible that they could be added as separate bonus or extra features for the movie on Disney+ , similar to when other shows or movies on the streamer add tie-in featurettes. The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) already has a separate 27-minute feature for the film’s bonus acoustic collection, so there’s still hope for “no body, no crime” and “seven (Interlude)” to eventually be added.

The most famous person in the world is a guitar player. Yep it’s easy to forget that long before Taylor Swift became perhaps the defining cultural icon of the 2020s , Time’s Person Of The Year and an artist so universally popular that she can single-handedly boost NFL TV ratings and jersey sales , she was an aspiring songwriter with a guitar and a dream. But what guitars did Taylor Swift use?

And like any other guitar lover, the more famous and successful Tay-Tay has become, the more interesting and unique guitars she’s added to to her collection – mainly some acoustics but also a fair few interesting electrics along the way.

The epoch-defining Eras Tour has revealed the full gamut of Taylor’s unique and interesting guitar collection, and also showcased it to a wider audience than ever before – it is of course the highest grossing tour of all time, a $200-million cinema box office smash, and is likely to break the internet all over again when The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) launches on Disney+ today.

The Eras Tour is a three and a half hour trip through Taylor’s entire career to date – from her self-titled 2006 debut all the through to Midnights – and most interestingly of all from a Guitar.com perspective, the tour has seen her showcase many of the guitars she used to write and perform those songs at the time.

As such, The Eras Tour gives us a definitive picture of what guitars Taylor Swift uses – many of which are custom-versions of standard models, or rare limited-run designs – read on to find out more about Taylor’s guitar history, and your best options to capture Taylor Swift guitar tones in the real world.

It’s perhaps not shocking that going all the way back to her earliest records, Taylor Swift has been a fan of Californian acoustic guitar company Taylor Guitars – after all, who needs a signature model when your name is already right there on the headstock!

Taylor’s Taylor guitars are clearly very sentimental to her, as she’s used them constantly throughout her career, and brought out some of her most cherished examples on the Eras Tour – they’re also some of her most iconic instruments, including her custom red Taylor 614ce that was the main acoustic on the Red Tour, and a diamante-encrusted GS6 that was used on the Fearless Tour in 2008.

Taylor Presentation Series PS-24ce Grand Auditorium

taylor swift long live tour

If there’s one guitar that we think might be Taylor’s most sentimental instrument, it’s this one – this stunning guitar has a flamed koa body with a distinctive matching soundhole cover and a ‘Taylor Swift’ in what Taylor calls a ‘Byzantine inlay’ on the fingerboard.

A custom-build, this is based on Taylor’s super-high end Presentation Serie PS-24ce Grand Auditorium model, but with a very unconventional ‘Florentine’ cutaway, which has a sharp point, unlike a regular GA model. The guitar also has an ebony peghead and bridge, Gotoh tuners and ivoroid binding.

Taylor started using the guitar around 2007, but it’s clearly a meaningful one as she’s been using it for several songs on The Eras Tour, and displaying it proudly on a stand in front of the audience when she’s not using it.

Get the sound: Taylor’s 214ce is an affordable route to a similar kind of look and sound, with Grand Auditorium body style and koa top

Taylor Grand Symphony “Living Jewels” Series

taylor swift long live tour

This guitar is often referred to as the “Living Jewels” Guitar or the “Koi Guitar”, and is one of the most distinctive and unique instruments seen on The Eras Tour. She first began using the Living Jewels guitar around 2011-2012 during the Speak Now Tour, famously performing songs like Last Kiss . She also used it in 2022 for the music video Anti-Hero , and even put the guitar on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame until it was removed in 2023 for use on the Eras Tour.

This particular guitar came from a very limited series of acoustics designed by Pete Davies Jr. around the year 2000. Only around 100 of these guitars were made, in different designs – one featuring a grey whale, one with a sea turtle, and one with koi fish that Taylor owns. Each of the guitars features beautifully ornate inlay work of the aforementioned sea creatures on the body and fretboard.

Get the sound: While these guitars are incredibly rare, if you’re just looking for a tonal alternative, you might opt for a standard Grand Symphony, with a spruce top and maple back – which won’t give you the cool koi art but will have everything under the hood to replicate her tone. If you’re looking for a similar design with a smaller size for a smaller frame, Taylor’s hugely popular GS Mini line is a perfect place to start – and Taylor even has a signature model version .

The Gibson Eras

taylor swift long live tour

As befits any country star worth her salt, Taylor has had a long love affair with Gibson guitars – particularly the brand’s acoustic instruments. However, the Eras Tour has seen Gibsons replace Taylors as her primary instruments, with a whole host of new and bespoke instruments of various types that often have colours and customisations that reflect the various albums that she’s referencing in that portion of the show.

While none of these guitars is commercially available (yet!), they have quickly become as iconic as the popularity of the Eras Tour has exploded, with each of the unique instruments telling its own story about a period in Taylor’s glittering music career.

Gibson J-180

taylor swift long live tour

While several of the guitars used on The Eras Tour are instruments she’s pulled out of the rack from the period in question, she’s also brought out several new instruments that are themselves designed to nod to those eras, but with her 2024 sonic preferences.

Key amongst these are a series of Gibson guitars derived from the company’s iconic SJ-200 model – first introduced back in 1937 and used by everyone from The Everly Brothers and Jimmy Page to Billie Joe Armstrong and Justin Timberlake.

Swift recreated her crystal rhinestone-encrusted Taylor Guitars GS6 that was used on the Fearless Tour for The Eras Tour, only this time she used a Gibson J-180 (a thinner-depthed version of the J-200). The GS6 was retired sometime around 2013, but the new guitar featured around 5,400 Swarovski Lead Crystals attached with silicone epoxy by Taylor and her family just days before the tour – the original GS6 was apparently also blinged out by Taylor and her mom.

One notable difference between the new guitar and the original – the addition of a “13” (Swift’s favourite number) rhinestone pattern just behind the bridge.

Taylor clearly really loves the J-180 body shape, as she’s also got several other customised versions of the guitar, including pink and powder blue examples, plus a black one that she auctioned off for charity in 2020 – the guitars are notable for having star inlays on the fretboard as opposed to the usual dots or blocks.

Get the sound: Sadly, Gibson doesn’t produce the J-180 currently, so a standard J-200 is your best bet. If you’re looking for the vibe on a more condensed budget, the Epiphone J-200 is a really good guitar for the money .

Gibson J-45

taylor swift long live tour

While the J-180 might be her preferred instrument, The Eras Tour also sees Swift playing two different versions of Gibson’s J-45 model – one in a deep red colour and one in a black sparkle finish. Unlike the J-180s these guitars just have standard dot inlays and feel a bit more restrained. As with pretty much all of Taylor’s guitars though, these J-45s are certainly custom builds, given that they use non-standard finishes, and do not feature pickguards.

Get the sound: Thankfully, Gibson’s J-45 is still in production, though it’s certainly not cheap you can get it in both Cherry Red and Black. If your budget doesn’t stretch to that however, the Epiphone J-45 might be more up your street .

Gibson J-45 Custom Ebony Acoustic Guitar

Most of the guitars we’ve seen Taylor use on The Eras Tour have been heavily customised and personalised, but there’s one guitar that has the distinction of being stock – a Cherry Sunburst Gibson Hummingbird. Asides from the soundhole plug to prevent feedback (which is common with all her guitars) this instrument is pretty much identical to the guitar you could walk into a store and buy today – including that iconic hummingbird motif on the pickguard.

Get the sound: As mentioned, Taylor’s Hummingbird seems pretty much stock, which means you can buy one from Gibson’s Original Collection today. If you’re not up for spending thousands however, there’s an Epiphone Inspired By version that even comes in the right colour .

Taylor’s electrics.

Taylor Swift Red Les Paul

The Eras Tour sees Swift relying mostly on her acoustic guitar collection, and leaving the electric guitar work to her backing band – that said, she has been known to use a variety of electric guitars over the years, including a red-sparkle Les Paul Standard, a similar guitar with mini-humbuckers, a Les Paul Studio with red diamante finish, and even Taylor T5 and a Johnny Marr Jaguar back in the day.

The Red Sparkle Les Paul Studio even got a run-out on the opening night of The Eras Tour, though the other guitars have yet to make an appearance – they’re all pretty stock spec-wise however.

Get the sound: Taylor has generally been drawn to Gibson-style single-cut guitars over the years, particularly the Les Paul – while her guitars are custom, the recently released Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite is available in a very Tay Tay-style matt red finish.

Taylor Swift

We are just two weeks away from Taylor Swift hitting the road again for a summer swing of European Eras Tour shows. And, as you may have heard, since the last time she played an Eras show Swift has dropped her fastest-selling album of all-time, The Tortured Poets Department , a sprawling, 31-track collection that has been racking up record after record in its first week.

Trending on billboard.

While Swift has not commented, on Thursday night (April 25) Swift uploaded a 15-second YouTube Shorts clip in which it appeared that TTPD has, indeed, been slipped into rotation. Cued to the album’s first single, the Post Malone-featuring “ Fortnight ,” it finds Swift singing, dancing and playing piano in what look like Lover and Folklore set-ups, one quick-cut caught a lot of attention. In a brief shot, Swift is seen standing next to a silver railing that eagle-eyed fans quickly surmised was in the shape of the TTPD logo. There was no chill about this news.

“GUYS THE RAILING LITERALLY SAYS TTPD!?!;);$!; ITS THE TTPD LOGO WE’RE GETTING TTPD AT THE ERAS TOUR,” tweeted one Swiftie. Another pointed out that Swift appeared to be wearing the same shoes from the “Fortnight” video in the rehearsal clip and another proved that there is no one in the game better at the long game than Taylor.

“tHIS is what she means when she says she plans easter eggs far in advance. AHHHHH!!!!,” they wrote, noting that another Swiftie spotted that Swift had seemingly teased this new era before the tour even began when she posted an image of a box containing all her different-colored Eras microphones, including a white one that “hasn’t had a place in the show… until now!!!” It was hard to tell if Swift was wielding this white mic in the video because the clip is in grayscale, but that didn’t stop the breathless speculation about what’s next on the singer’s stadium-packing outing.

Check out the Shorts clip and the Easter egg hunt below.

Swifties who want to snag tickets to Taylor Swift’s colossal Eras Tour know the experience won’t come cheap.

This year, the billionaire will only visit three U.S. cities – Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis – and prices for the in-demand shows are astronomical . For the Oct. 18 show in Miami, for example, cost of a single ticket ranged between $1,615 and $8,524 on StubHub.com as of Wednesday afternoon.

So, how else can fans see one of the world’s biggest singers? Go abroad .

Concert-goers who head to Europe for their Swift experience may actually save more money in the long-run . Not only are ticket prices across the pond cheaper, but many European cities, like Warsaw and Lisbon, are also budget-friendly, offering inexpensive food and lodging.

Was the travel worth it? Beyoncé and Taylor Swift's summer concerts drew fans from afar

To determine the most affordable Eras Tour stops, Islands.com researchers compared the cost of a two-night trip, including one cheap ticket on StubHub.com, two nights at a four-star hotel, six inexpensive meals, two five-mile taxi rides, and one domestic beer. However, researchers didn’t account for airline tickets or concert merchandise.

With safety at the top of travelers' minds, the researchers also factored in the city’s safety rating out of 100.

To stay extra safe, the State Department encourages travelers to register with the U.S. embassy in the country they're visiting any time they travel abroad. That can be done at step.state.gov .

Taylor Swift releases YouTube short that appears to have new Eras Tour dances

taylor swift long live tour

Taylor Swift  released a new YouTube Shorts video and fans believe clips are signifying a "The Tortured Poets Department" number or set during the Eras Tour.

After the double album was released Friday, fans wondered if the singer would fit any of the 31 songs into the three-plus hour set. In the quick 15-second video, fans pointed out a couple of suspect shots, including Swift leaning against a railing that seems to have the "TTPD" logo and a quick scene where her backup dancers hold poles and wear top hats.

Swift has been on a two-month break from the Eras Tour and has spent much of her time in Los Angeles.

If there is a new Eras Tour set, the next question is where would she add the era? "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince's" opening line is a perfect opening for an artist who has released seven albums and hasn't seen fans: "It's been a long time coming."

She could end the show with the "TTPD" set, but "Karma" is also a good show closer. Other than those two options, she could place "TTPD" after "Reputation" and before "Speak Now" or also right before "Midnights."

"A fortnight til Paris đŸ€," Swift says in the caption. Her next tour stop is Paris, France on May 9. Swift will tour in Europe for 51 shows until she takes a break and heads back to the United States and Canada.

Taylor Swift didn’t hold back on calling everyone out on her newest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and the reactions are rolling in.

The surprise double album was released in two parts on April 19, giving exuberant Swifties plenty of material to analyze — including multiple celebrity call-outs.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian sitting alertly in a brown leather chair in a black jacket and top looking straight ahead

Swift and Kardashian have a long-standing feud, which started with Swift and Ye back in the day and goes back to Kimye’s infamous doctored phone call , which appeared to prove Taylor had given consent for a nude wax figure of her to appear in Kanye’s “Famous” music video. TLDR: The call was edited, but Swift was ripped to shreds online anyway, an experience that inspired her now legendary “Reputation” album.

Swift isn’t quite letting Kardashian off the hook, and “TTPD’s” “thanK you aIMee” pointedly had the letters of Kardashian’s first name capitalized in the title.

Taylor Swift turns heel, owning her chaos and messiness on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

Swift’s 11th studio LP, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ released at midnight Eastern time, follows a busy period in the 34-year-old’s personal and professional spheres.

April 18, 2024

“And so I changed your name and any real defining clues / And one day, your kid comes home singin’ / A song that only us two is gonna know is about you,” Taylor wrote, apparently referencing daughter North West’s TikToks that have featured her songs in the past.

Kardashian didn’t respond directly to the taunt, but she did post a throwback photo with Swift’s ex-best friend Karlie Kloss on mutual pal Derek Blasberg’s birthday. Whether it was a coincidence is anyone’s guess.

Matty Healy

Matty Healy playing a keyboard in concert in a black jacket with a funny look on his face

The 1975 frontman was the surprise “TTPD” guest star. He and the “Bejeweled” singer appeared to have had a short fling following her split from Joe Alwyn, but the lyrics in “TTPD” have led to speculation that the two were involved for far longer.

The title track is particularly damning: “You left your typewriter at my apartment,” Swift sings, referencing Healy’s apparent penchant for the old-school device. (“Who uses typewriters anyway?” she later asks.)

Swift goes on to call him a “tattooed golden retriever” before describing his smoking habits.

“But you tell Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you so I felt seen,” she continues, referencing Boygenius member Lucy Dacus, who performed with Swift on the Eras tour, and her producer and bestie Jack Antonoff. Sounds super healthy and normal!

The best songs from Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ double album

Taylor Swift released the 16-track “Tortured Poets Department” at the stroke of midnight on Friday — and surprised fans with 15 more songs two hours later. Here are the best songs from the double album.

April 19, 2024

And all that’s from just one song. “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “Guilty as Sin?,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” all pile on the blame.

Healy responded coolly on Wednesday. “I haven’t really listened to that much of it,” the singer told paparazzi, “but I’m sure it’s good.”

His tone marks a stark difference from when he called dating Swift “ emasculating .”

His mom, Denise Welch, was similarly unbothered, saying on British talk show “Loose Women” that she “wasn’t aware [Swift] had an album out at all.”

Unlikely, considering “TTPD” just became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day, but whatever.

Joe Alwyn standing in front of a leafy green background in a black jacket, white button-down shirt and black tie

Just as fans predicted, Taylor’s ex-boyfriend of six years was spared little sympathy. Even the album title is supposedly a reference to the name of a group chat between the actor, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, called the “Tortured Man Club.”

“So Long, London” is Taylor’s most obvious hit at Alwyn, considering he inspired the track “London Boy” on her 2019 album “Lover.”

“I didn’t opt in to be your odd man out,” she sings about the end of their relationship. “I founded the club she’s heard great things about / I left all I knew, you left me at the house by the Heath.”

The 5 tracks you need to hear from Taylor Swift’s surprise ‘Tortured Poets’ companion

Released two hours after “The Tortured Poets Department” on Thursday night, Taylor Swift’s second set of new songs contains a handful of highlights.

It’s clear Alwyn promised Swift a lot more than what he gave her. In “LOML” she laments how “You s—-talked me under the table / Talkin’ rings and talkin’ cradles / I wish I could unrecall / How we almost had it all.”

The marriage references don’t stop. In “imgonnagetyouback,” Swift tries to decide “whether I’m gonna be your wife or gonna smash up your bike.”

Fans have also latched onto a line in “Fortnight,” which features Post Malone, as proof that Alwyn wasn’t always faithful to Swift. “My husband is cheating, I wanna kill him,” Swift sings.

According to a source , Alwyn “has listened to the album, and he is slightly disappointed, but not surprised at all.” Maybe he’s upset about Healy stealing his spotlight?

Travis Kelce

NFL star Travis Kelce speaks at a microphone while seated in his Kansas City Chiefs uniform

Of course, Swift couldn’t leave current beau Kelce behind. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is the apparent subject of “The Alchemy” and “So High School,” both of which are riddled with football metaphors.

“The greatest in the league / Where’s the trophy? / He just comes running over to me,” she sings in “The Alchemy,” referencing the couple’s viral kiss after Kelce‘s team won the Super Bowl in February.

“You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” she added in “So High School.” “You knew what you wanted and, boy, you got her,” she concludes in the song, alluding to how Kelce pursued her after seeing her perform on the Eras tour.

Science & Medicine

Taylor Swift’s new album is rife with breakup songs. Psychologists explain why we love them

Taylor Swift’s new ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ album draws inspiration from her own breakups. What attracts us to songs about failed relationships?

“I have heard some of it, yes, and it is unbelievable,” Kelce said at a sports event in February, ahead of the album’s release. “I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops.”

He’s “very proud of her,” a source told E! News after the record dropped earlier this month.

“Travis is so supportive of the entire album,” the source continued, “and loves that he is a part of Taylor’s story.”

Kelce’s mom, Donna, even chimed in the conversation with her own praise. “I listened to the whole album, and I listened to it all morning long when it was released,” she told People this week.

“I was just very impressed,” she said. “She is a very talented woman, and I think it is probably her best work.”

Taylor Swift and Donna Kelce with an inset of a Bandolier phone case

Even NFL superstars need a little help scoring points with their moms.

Donna Kelce spotlighted her favorite Mother’s Day gifts on the “Today” show Monday, telling the audience that sons Travis and Jason Kelce are “usually not” good gift-givers.

As for what could potentially up their gifting game this year? The Bandolier Sarah Crossbody Case ( $108 $98), a hands-free phone carrier the famed football mom says she uses “constantly.”

Perhaps she’s been taking notes from Taylor Swift; long before the start of her romance with Travis Kelce , the pop star carried the same case on multiple occasions in 2016.

A Bandolier case

“You know you’re never going to be lost with it … It’s really, really nice,” the Kelce matriarch added of her Bandolier, which she often wears while taking in her sons’ games from the sidelines.

What’s more, the studded style is currently on sale for under $100 on Amazon, just in time for Mother’s Day shopping.

Taylor Swift

She and Swift aren’t the only ones who trust the tech protector, however, as it’s also a favorite of fellow famous moms like Bethenny Frankel and Blake Lively. (Not to mention another case from the brand was an Oprah’s “Favorite Thing” in 2021.)

Not all of Kelce’s gift picks are meant for on-the-go use, however, as she also highlighted a Jobosi Wind Chime ($39), saying that “people need zen.”

Her zen recommendations also include Lotus Linen robes ($34.99+), which she says are “very, very soft” and “a fun thing to [wear] with your friends or just for a mom that needs to have some rest.”

As for beauty buys Mom can use while relaxing in her new robe? Kelce is equally blown away by the L’ange Le Styliste Hair Dryer ( $179 $170).

“I’ve used it a lot and it’s one of my favorites,” she said of the dryer, calling it “very easy to get into the suitcase.”

And if your mom prefers gifts of the culinary variety, you can’t go wrong with a (literally) cheesy surprise like the Smirly Charcuterie Board Set ( $50 $40).

“Obviously this is all the rage right now,” Kelce said, quipping, “The good thing is you only have one plate to clean.”

While the mom of two added that she’s “very rarely in the same place” as her sons on Mother’s Day, perhaps she’ll still clean up in the gifting department this year.

Taylor Swift's confessional 'Tortured Poets' would have benefitted from an edit

Though Swift performs a range of experience and emotions, the music on her 11th album feels thin and is often in service of lyrics that could have used a red pencil.

A Brief Guide to Who’s Who on Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets’

Ex-boyfriends may be alluded to. Travis Kelce, too, fans believe. And some actual poets.

By Madison Malone Kircher

When Taylor Swift released “The Tortured Poets Department,” on Friday at midnight, her fan base quickly got to work decoding the album, looking for layers of meaning and insight into Ms. Swift’s life. Of course, that includes the pop singer’s romantic history.

Like many of her past works, the songs on this album — which features over a dozen additional tracks as part of an extended album called “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” — are laden with names and references, many of which appear to be to real people from Ms. Swift’s universe and the literary canon. At least two poets, Dylan Thomas and Patti Smith, are mentioned.

Here’s a look at some of those characters.

Matty Healy

Plenty of lines from “Tortured Poets” have fans guessing that certain songs — including “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “The Black Dog” and “Down Bad” — may be about Matty Healy , the frontman for the 1975 who was spotted out and about with Taylor on several occasions last spring. One clue Swifties are latching on to: On the “The Black Dog,” Ms. Swift refers to the band the Starting Line. Mr. Healy covered one of the band’s songs while he was touring last spring. And then there is the much-discussed reference to a person Ms. Swift describes as a “tattooed golden retriever" on the album’s title track. Mr. Healy seems to fit the bill, according to her fans.

Travis Kelce

Ms. Swift’s fans have been floating the notion that the many sports references in the track “The Alchemy” allude to the football player Travis Kelce , the singer’s current boyfriend. “So when I / Touch down, call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team / Ditch the clowns, get the crown, baby, I’m the one to beat," she sings in the chorus. “Where’s the trophy? / He just comes running over to me,” she adds in the bridge. But there is some debate, with some fans noting that her use of the term “blokes” would seem to imply the song is not about an American. (A winking line about “heroin but this time with an E” has some guessing the song is about Mr. Healy, who has previously spoken about his drug use.)

Ms. Swift and the actor Joe Alwyn broke up last year after a lengthy relationship. In the lead-up to the release of “Tortured Poets,” many fans believed this new album would process the end of that relationship. (Mr. Alwyn said in a 2022 interview that he was in a group text chat with the actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott called “ The Tortured Man Club .” Some fans believe Ms. Swift was nodding to this name with her latest album title.) There is some speculation that Track 5, “So Long, London,” is about Mr. Alwyn, who is British.

Jack Antonoff

A longtime collaborator of Ms. Swift’s, Jack Antonoff, who is credited as a producer on many of the new album’s songs, appears to get a lyrical shout out on the album’s title track.

The musician Lucy Dacus also appears on that same track. (In addition to her work as a solo artist, Ms. Dacus is a member of the supergroup boygenius, who surprised fans with a performance during a stop on Ms. Swift’s Eras tour last year.) “Sometimes, I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen,” Ms. Swift sings.

Kim Kardashian

Ms. Swift often leaves clues for fans by capitalizing seemingly random letters in words which, when strung together, spell a different word. In the case of this album, the song “thanK you aIMee,” seems to reveal the name Kim. (Ms. Swift and Kim Kardashian have a long and unfriendly history .)

In Greek mythology, Cassandra is given the gift of prophecy by Apollo, but is cursed such that no one will ever believe her. On a song with the same name as the goddess, Ms. Swift sings, “So they killed Cassandra first / ’Cause she feared the worst / And tried to tell the town / So they filled my cell with snakes, I regret to say / Do you believe me now?” Snake emojis have also played a key role in the feud between Ms. Swift and Ms. Kardashian.

Charlie Puth

The singer-songwriter Charlie Puth gets a name drop on the title track: “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.” Mr. Puth, through a representative, declined to comment.

The song “Peter” appears to refer to the storybook character Peter Pan. “You said you were gonna grow up / Then said you were gonna come find me,” Ms. Swift sings. She has made similar allusions in the past, including a line about “Peter losing Wendy” on her song “cardigan” in 2020.

Patti Smith

The American singer, songwriter, poet and author Patti Smith gets a name check on the title track in a line about New York’s iconic Chelsea Hotel , where she once lived. Ms. Smith has been hailed as the “ punk poet laureate .”

Dylan Thomas

The Welsh poet, known for works like “Do not go gentle into that good night,” is also mentioned along with Ms. Smith. “You’re not Dylan Thomas / I’m not Patti Smith / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel / We’re modern idiots,” Ms. Swift sings. Thomas, who was also a resident at the Chelsea, is famous for his work as a neo-Romantic poet. (Ms. Swift has an older song, from her album “1989,” titled “New Romantics.”)

Clara Bow, an actress from the silent film era known as the first “it girl,” has an entire song dedicated to her on “Tortured Poets.” In 1927, Bow starred in a film titled “It” and became a national sex symbol before leaving the industry. Fans have pointed out that Ms. Swift’s thinly drawn eyebrows in a video teasing a new music video to accompany the song “Fortnight” bear a striking similarity to Ms. Bow’s.

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks is named on the song “Clara Bow.” Ms. Nicks has said that Ms. Swift’s song “You’re on Your Own Kid” reminds her of Christine McVie, her Fleetwood Mac bandmate who died in 2022 . “You look like Stevie Nicks / In ’75, the hair and lips,” Ms. Swift sings in the song. (Ms. Nicks also wrote an original poem that accompanies a special vinyl edition of “Tortured Poets.”)

  • All of Swift's No. 1 songs are listed below in chronological order of their peak dates.

1. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"

taylor swift long live tour

Despite writing ubiquitous hits like "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story" earlier in her career (which peaked at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively), "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was Swift's first-ever song to top the chart.

The country-pop-crossover smash was released as the lead single from Swift's fourth studio album "Red." It rose from No. 72 to No. 1 in its second week of tracking and remained atop the chart for three weeks.

2. "Shake It Off"

taylor swift long live tour

"Shake It Off" was released as the lead single from Swift's fifth album "1989." It became her first song to debut at No. 1 and remained atop the chart for four weeks.

3. "Blank Space"

taylor swift long live tour

"Blank Space," the second single from "1989," debuted at No. 18 on the Hot 100.

It rose to No. 13 before soaring to No. 1 in its third week — dethroning "Shake It Off" and making Swift the first woman in history to replace herself in the chart's top spot.

"Blank Space" went on to become one of Swift's biggest hits, reigning atop the chart for seven weeks.

4. "Bad Blood" featuring Kendrick Lamar

taylor swift long live tour

A remix of "Bad Blood" featuring Kendrick Lamar was released as the fourth single from "1989" on May 17, 2015.

It rose from No. 53 to the chart's top spot after the music video premiered at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and broke the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours .

5. "Look What You Made Me Do"

taylor swift long live tour

Despite mixed reactions from critics, Swift's lead single for "Reputation" rose to No. 1 after its first full week of tracking, breaking the weekly streaming record for a song by a woman.

Once again, Swift's music video broke the record for most views within 24 hours , racking up 43.2 million views in its first day.

"Look What You Made Me Do" remained atop the chart for three weeks.

6. "Cardigan"

taylor swift long live tour

Swift announced the arrival of her eighth album, " Folklore ," just one day in advance. The second track, "Cardigan," was released at the same time as the album and promoted with a whimsical music video .

"Folklore" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 while "Cardigan" simultaneously debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, making Swift the first artist in history to open atop both charts in the same week.

7. "Willow"

taylor swift long live tour

Just five months after "Folklore," Swift repeated her pandemic-era strategy and surprise-released " Evermore " alongside its lead single. The music video for "Willow" is painted as a witchy sequel to "Cardigan," with plenty of Easter eggs for fans buried in the details.

Again, "Evermore" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 while "Willow" simultaneously debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, making Swift the first artist to debut atop both charts simultaneously — twice. (She has now done it six times.)

8. "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From the Vault)"

taylor swift long live tour

" Red (Taylor's Version) " was the second rerecorded album Swift released. It was accompanied by the long-awaited extended version of "All Too Well," a fan-favorite track from the original album.

"All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" was promoted with a self-directed short film  and plenty of theories about the song's potential muse . Fittingly, it debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

9. "Anti-Hero"

taylor swift long live tour

"Anti-Hero" was released alongside " Midnights " and promoted as the album's lead single.

It quickly became Swift's biggest hit ever, reigning atop the Hot 100 for eight weeks and surpassing "Blank Space" as her longest-running No. 1 song.

The same week that "Anti-Hero" debuted at No. 1, Swift became the first and only artist in history to occupy the entire top 10 on the Hot 100 . The hit single was flanked by "Lavender Haze" (No. 2), "Maroon" (No. 3), "Snow on the Beach" (No. 4), "Midnight Rain" (No. 5), "Bejeweled" (No. 6), "Question...?" (No. 7), "You're On Your Own, Kid" (No. 8), "Karma" (No. 9), and "Vigilante Shit" (No. 10).

10. "Cruel Summer"

taylor swift long live tour

"Cruel Summer" was originally released as the second track on Swift's 2019 album "Lover."

Although it was identified early as a fan favorite, the song was never promoted as a single and debuted modestly at No. 29 on the Hot 100.

Four years later, Swift transformed "Cruel Summer" into a showstopping spectacle on The Eras Tour . Streams of the song began to surge and it reigned atop Billboard's Pop Airplay chart for two months. Swift's label sent the song to pop radio in June 2023.

Finally, following the release of " The Cruelest Summer " EP — which includes a live version of the song and a remix by LP Giobbi — the song reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, marking Swift's milestone 10th chart-topper. It later returned to the top spot, notching four weeks total.

11. "Is It Over Now?"

taylor swift long live tour

"Is It Over Now?" was released as the final vault track on "1989 (Taylor's Version)," a rerecording of her beloved fifth album.

Although it wasn't initially slated as a single, passionate fan reception pushed Swift's team to serve the song to pop radio.

"Is It Over Now?" debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 , dethroning "Cruel Summer." Swift is the only woman in history to replace herself in the top spot; she previously achieved the feat in 2014, when "Blank Space" took the crown from "Shake It Off."

12. "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone

taylor swift long live tour

"Fortnight" was released alongside " The Tortured Poets Department " and promoted as the album's lead single.

The Post Malone duet debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 while "Poets" simultaneously debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning Swift's biggest sales week to date .

Once again, Swift managed to occupy the entire top 10 of the Hot 100 , becoming the first and only artist to achieve the feat twice. In fact, the top 14 positions on the chart were occupied by "Poets" tracks, including "Down Bad" (No. 2) and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" (No. 3), all the way through to "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" (No. 14).

Swift is now tied with Madonna and The Supremes for the fifth-most No. 1 hits in history.
