“Hot Rod Tour of Texas! Two days, three day or more! This would kick off in Victoria Tx and head North to the Hill County with stops for fuel, scenic photos opportunities. Host hotels each night. Folks wanting to join could pick us up in stop locations as we get closer to your area if ya don’t want to make the full run. Will be a 2022 event to pull this off on a grand scale.” Bobby Sparkman, founder – Facebook Post

So, I’ve been connected with some pretty cool Gearheads down in South Central Texas, specifically in Victoria, Texas. In getting into the Car Culture down there, I’ve met Bobby Sparkman, owner of an awesome 1928 Model A truck, known as the F-Bomb Hauler.

tour of texas 2022

Bobby’s not content to own and drive great vehicles, he’s also into promoting events. His first, that I know of is, Bikes, Trikes and Power Wheels , a show that’s in it’s 2nd, maybe 3rd year. I’ll get more info on that, for sure.

His latest event, is the Hot Rod Tour of Texas. I’m reaching out to him to get more info in building this page, so hang on for more to come.

Here’s the latest post from Bobby:

“April 29th – May 1st, 2022 are the dates for the Hot Rod Tour of Texas! We will kick off in Victoria, TX Friday morning, April 29th, 2022 . Big Thanks to ALAMO CITY MOTORPLEX, in Marion, TX, the first stop of the tour, on Friday, April 29, 2022 and Little River Raceway, second stop of the tour, on April 30, 2022. Thank you both for your support and working with us to make this happen and bring the tour to both of your awesome facilities. We have also confirmed, vintage mini bike races will be taking place at both tracks. At Alamo City Motorplex it will be flat track style racing and at Little River Raceway it will be short drag racing by the Demon City Mini Bikes and the North Texas Mini Bikes. Stay tuned folks, for the April 30th, 2022 final stop announcement.” Bobby Sparkman, Facebook Page

Recent tour reviews

This was the first time I got to see Texas, what a memorable gig! I enjoyed it from start to finish. The lead singer was very funny and really interacted with the crowd. This was probably the best gig I have been to that involved the crowd as much as they did. There was a big Scottish following. The music was excellent and you can tell that the band enjoyed performing.

Great night, hugely enjoyed the show all the hits and more, Sharleen definately knows how to work a crowd, only drawback was she asked the crowd to stand for the complete show, but as we are of a certain age we had to sit down after a while and then we couldn't see the show any more, shame otherwise very, very good.

Excellent performance in front of a packed Usher Hall.

Not having seen Texas for a few years, we loved Sharleen's chat between the music, very funny and as always very accommodating for the fans coming to the front for selfies and a chat!

Great mix of tracks from their entire back catalogue including the latest album.

A terrific evening's entertainment.

I feel so fortunate to have found Historic Tours of Texas. I was looking for something special to celebrate my husband's birthday. He loves history and it's been difficult to visit museums with our two small children. I was a little uncertain about how the tours could work out for us but Robin saved the day! She was extremely helpful from the first communication (I wish I had reached out sooner) and went right to work, creating a private 4-hour tour of Huntsville for our family. We were delighted and surprised at all of the little details and extra measures taken to make sure we were comfortable on the tour and our kids were entertained. Dr. Crimm is a wealth of information and was a wonderful, friendly guide. It was a perfect day and I can't thank them enough! We can't wait to return for another tour - I want to do them all! Jenny

This was a phenomenal field trip. Robin was very nice and helpful and our guide tour, Dr. Crimm, is very knowledgeable. She was able to explain history in such an interesting way. I feel the spots we visited are underated and thanks to this trip I was able to see it. 100% recomendable.

Carolina is amazing! On top of her fantastic tours, she is a wonderful speaker. Her passion and knowledge keeps you captivated as she takes you on a journey back in time. Carolina has been speaking at my work, Carriage Inn Huntsville, for a few years now, and she packs the room every time she presents. If you haven't taken a tour or listened to her speak, you should.

My wife and I had a great time with Caroline!! Her tour was fun and informative. Highly recommend!!

Such a lovely time learning about Huntsville, TX. Great stories. And Caroline is a fabulous host!

Dr. Caroline Crimm does a fantastic job! She is a wealth of information and has a way of imparting her knowledge that is both interesting and entertaining. If you don't take one of her tours (or a dozen) then you are missing out!

Follow in their footsteps!

You said that someday you would visit the best-loved destinations in Texas. Now is your chance! Easy registration and cancellation.

A tour of Texas' 2022 schedule, from Louisiana-Monroe to Baylor

tour of texas 2022

One year after Texas went 5-7, the Longhorns' road to redemption features 12 regular-season games against teams that combined for a .627 winning percentage in 2021. Eight opponents posted winning records and five won at least 11 games. Texas also can look forward to four teams that finished the year in the Associated Press Top 25: No. 1 Alabama, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 10 Baylor and No. 12 Oklahoma State.

Here is a tour of Texas' schedule:

Sept. 3: Louisiana-Monroe

This marks the third time in the last four years that Texas will open against a school from Louisiana. Three years ago, Texas beat up on Louisiana Tech 45-14 in the first game of the 2019 season. Last year, the Steve Sarkisian era began with a 38-18 win over No. 23 Louisiana .

Louisiana-Monroe went 4-8 last season and is picked to finish last in the Sun Belt's West division. The Warhawks scored 20.9 points per game in 2021 while allowing 33.5, but those units will attempt to turn things around under new coordinators Matt Kubik and Vic Koenning.

Texas and Louisiana-Monroe have played just once before, a 59-20 Texas win in the 2009 opener.

More: What more can Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy do for an encore after his breakout 2021?

About the Warhawks: Louisiana-Monroe returns 13 starters (9 offense, 4 defense), including the Warhawks' leading rusher Andrew Henry (485 yards, 4 TDs), receiver Boogie Knight (588 yards, 3 TDs) and passer Chandler Rogers (1,311 yards, 9 TDs) from last year.

FYI: Alabama can kill two birds with one stone with the film from this game. The Crimson Tide play Texas on Sept. 10 and then ULM on Sept. 17.

Sept. 10: Alabama

Since its 2020 scheduled matchup at LSU was nixed by the pandemic, Texas has been waiting 13 years to play a team that appeared in the prior season's national championship game (Oklahoma, back in 2009). This time around, it's Alabama, which fell to Georgia in last season's CFP finale.

More: Texas taps Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers as its starting quarterback

Temperatures are expected to be hot when this game kicks off at 11 a.m. , but UT's opponent will be even hotter. Earlier this month, Alabama received 54 of the 63 first-place votes in the AP's preseason poll and 54 of the 66 first-place votes in the USA Today coaches' poll. Yes, the Tide lost seven players to the draft (including four in the first two rounds), but they still have quarterback Bryce Young — last year's Heisman Trophy winner.

Texas and Alabama have played nine times before. The Longhorns own a 7-1-1 lead in the series, but that lone loss was a big one: the 2009 national championship game at the Rose Bowl.

About the Crimson Tide: Alabama is stocked with talent. The Crimson Tide return 12 starters (5 offense, 7 defense). Young (4,872 passing yards, 50 total TDs) and LB Will Anderson Jr. (102 tackles, 17.5 sacks) enter this season as Heisman frontrunners.

FYI: Since Sarkisian was Alabama's offensive coordinator from 2019-20, it's worth noting that Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban owns a 25-2 career record against his former assistants . ... Three Longhorns — RB Keilan Robinson, TE Jahleel Billingsley and WR Agiye Hall — began their college careers at Alabama. ... Texas will play Alabama again next season in Tuscaloosa.

Sept. 17: UTSA

Texas and UTSA are well-acquainted in sports like baseball (32 all-time meetings) and softball (50). However, this will be the first time the Longhorns and Roadrunners have played a football game against each other.

Former Texas assistant coach Jeff Traylor, who served on Charlie Strong's final two UT coaching staffs, has turned UTSA into a program worth noticing . The Roadrunners improved from 4-8 to 7-5 in his first year in San Antonio in 2020, then went 12-2 and won the Conference USA championship last season.

About the Roadrunners: The program has been around for just 11 years. ... UTSA returns 13 starters (8 offense, 5 defense). After rushing for nearly 1,500 yards last year, RB Sincere McCormick signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent. ... QB Frank Harris is the only returning Roadrunner who ran for 500 yards last year; he also threw for 3,177 yards. Harris is Conference USA's preseason offensive player of the year and senior safety Rashad Wisdom was chosen as the league's top defender.

FYI: Over the past five years, UTSA is 2-5 against teams from Power Five conferences. Under Traylor, the Roadrunners are 1-0 in such games since they opened the 2021 season with a 37-30 win at Illinois. Back in 2017, UTSA also beat Baylor.

Sept. 24: at Texas Tech

After not having to leave the Austin city limits during nonconference play, Texas will hit the road for its Big 12 opener for the second time in the last three years. In Lubbock, the Longhorns will be greeted by the Red Raiders and their new coach, Joey McGuire.

A lot has changed for Tech since the Longhorns beat the Red Raiders by 35 points in Austin last year. A few weeks after that debacle, Tech fired head coach Matt Wells, then rallied to win its first bowl game since 2013 and then hired McGuire, a long-time Texas high school football coach who has been an assistant at Baylor the past five seasons.

Texas has won 22 of the 32 games it has played all-time in Lubbock, but the Longhorns' recent trips there haven't lacked drama. The last three Texas-Texas Tech games played there have featured a lead-taking touchdown or game-saving interception in either the final 30 seconds of regulation or in overtime — 45-37, 41-34 and 63-56 Texas wins in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

About the Red Raiders: Texas Tech returns 10 starters (4 offense, 6 defense). Tech didn't have a single player voted onto the Big 12's preseason team. But the Red Raiders do have two running backs in Tahj Brooks and SaRodorick Thompson who rushed for 500 yards last year, and Myles Price was a 500-yard receiver. LB Tyree Wilson is coming off a seven-sack season.

FYI: Texas Tech's last five head coaches lost the first game they coached against Texas. The last Tech coach to beat Texas in his debut season was David McWilliams, whose Red Raiders beat UT 23-21 in 1986. McWilliams took over the Longhorns the following year.

Oct. 1: West Virginia

Texas opens the month of October with a visit from the Mountaineers. West Virginia should be fresh for this one — nine days will have passed since the Mountaineers' previous game at Virginia Tech.

West Virginia was 6-7 last year, and the Mountaineers are just 17-18 since Neal Brown took over the program ahead of the 2019 season. West Virginia is picked to finish eighth in the Big 12.

Texas will be West Virginia's fourth straight opponent that posted a losing record in 2021, following Kansas, Towson and Virginia Tech. Last year, the Mountaineers upended Texas in Morgantown; that 31-23 loss essentially ended UT's hopes of securing a bowl bid .

About the Mountaineers: West Virginia returns 12 starters (7 offense, 5 defense). The Mountaineers averaged just 25.2 points per game, but new coordinator Graham Harrell and JT Daniels, a transfer quarterback from Georgia, could spark the offense. Defensive lineman Dante Stills and CB Charles Woods both landed on the preseason all-Big 12 team.

FYI: Harrell, of course, is more known by Texas fans for his work as a former Texas Tech quarterback. In three career starts against UT, he compiled 1,459 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Texas went 2-1 in those games, but Harrell's 28-yard touchdown to Michael Crabtree boosted the Red Raiders to a memorable 39-33 win in 2008.

Oct. 8: Oklahoma (Dallas)

This is Brent Venables' head coaching debut in the Red River Showdown rivalry series, and the Longhorns will look to be just as welcoming as the Sooners were in Sarkisian's first game at the Cotton Bowl. Last year, Texas jumped out to a 21-point lead over the No. 6 Sooners but then stumbled to a 55-48 loss .

That comeback may have been the highlight of a 2021 season that was disappointing by Sooners standards. Oklahoma finished 11-2 but missed out on a spot in the Big 12 championship game. This year, Oklahoma failed to top the Big 12's preseason poll for the first time since 2015. The Sooners were picked to finish second by the media members who cover the conference.

Texas still holds a comfortable 62-50-5 lead in the all-time series. However, the Longhorns have beaten the Sooners just once in the last seven meetings. But only one of the nine Texas-OU games since 2014 has been decided by more than one score.

About the Sooners: Oklahoma returns 12 starters (6 offense, 6 defense). At Big 12 media days, Venables said that 40% of his roster had never before worn an OU uniform. Some of those newcomers are transfers, the most notable of which is former Central Florida QB Dillon Gabriel. Defensive lineman Jeffery Johnson (Tulane) and DB Trey Morrison (North Carolina) also logged more than 40 starts at their previous stops.

FYI: Oklahoma is No. 9 in the AP preseason poll — the 23rd straight year that the Sooners have been ranked to start the season. Only Ohio State, which is No. 2 this year, has a longer active streak at 34 years. Oklahoma has been a top-10 team in 20 of the last 22 preseason polls.

Oct. 15: Iowa State

Between 1998 and 2018, Texas lost only twice in 15 games against Iowa State. But the tables have turned. The Longhorns currently own a three-game losing streak against the Cyclones after last year's 30-7 loss in Ames gave Bo Davis and UT fans everywhere plenty to yell about .

Iowa State will have a new quarterback and playmaker Breece Hall is now in the NFL. One of the top receivers in the Big 12, Xavier Hutchinson is coming off an 83-catch, 987-yard season.

If it weren't for the 18 seasons that Mike Gundy has spent at Oklahoma State, Matt Campbell would be the dean among Big 12 coaches. He enters his seventh year at Iowa State with a 42-34 record at the school. At Big 12 media days, Hutchinson said that continuity with Campbell "just makes it easier for you to go into work every day and work for him."

About the Cyclones: Iowa State returns 10 starters (6 offense, 4 defense). The offense took a hit this offseason when it lost Hall, its starting quarterback and an All-American tight end to the draft. On defense, though, DB Anthony Johnson Jr. and LB O’Rien Vance have both started more than 30 times. Defensive lineman Will McDonald IV needs just five sacks to become the Big 12's all-time leader.

FYI: Former Iowa State WR Tarique Milton transferred to Texas this offseason. He hauled in 99 passes during his time at Iowa State from 2017-21.

Oct. 22: at Oklahoma State

Texas has struggled recently in this series. Last year's 32-24 loss in Austin was the Longhorns' fifth in their last seven games against the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State reached the 2021 Big 12 championship game, but the Cowboys' title hopes were thwarted when Dezmon Jackson was stopped just short of the goal line on a fourth-down run with 24 seconds left in a 21-16 loss to Baylor. Oklahoma State beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl and finished the season 12-2.

While the position battle at Texas between quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card garnered headlines and Oklahoma's Gabriel was the Big 12's preseason pick for newcomer of the year, the best quarterback in the conference may just be OSU's Spencer Sanders. The redshirt senior has thrown for 6,911 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career. He was a first-team all-Big 12 pick in 2021. If he leads Oklahoma State to nine wins this season, he'll become the school's all-time winningest quarterback.

About the Cowboys: Oklahoma State returns 15 starters (10 offense, 5 defense). Three players from the defense were selected in the NFL draft. Jaylen Warren, the team's leading rusher from last season, and 1,000-yard receiver Tay Martin also left as undrafted free agents. ... Sanders, DE Collin Oliver and safety Jason Taylor II represented Oklahoma State on the Big 12's preseason team.

FYI: Austin native Braden Cassity made seven starts last year as a "cowboy back" on the Oklahoma State offense. He caught five passes. He has also seen playing time as a defensive end.

Nov. 5: at Kansas State

Texas finally gets a break in the schedule following the Oklahoma State game. Texas and Kansas, which like Texas is also off the weekend of Oct. 29, will be the last two Big 12 teams to go on a bye.

When the Longhorns return to action, the Wildcats will be waiting. Texas has won the last five games in this series, which has left UT alongside Baylor and Oklahoma State as the Big 12 schools that fourth-year Wildcats coach Chris Klieman has yet to beat.

Keep an eye on the backfields in this one. In the 2020 game, Texas RBs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson combined for 314 rushing yards and six touchdowns while Kansas State's Deuce Vaughn rushed for 125 yards and two scores. Vaughn rushed for 143 yards in Austin last year, but Johnson led the Longhorns to a 22-17 win with his 179 yards.

About the Wildcats: Kansas State returns 13 starters (6 offense, 7 defense). QB Skylar Thompson was taken by Miami in the seventh round of the draft, but Kansas State found his replacement in Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez. ... One year after contributing 51 tackles and 11 sacks for a defense that allowed 21.0 points per game, DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah was named the Big 12's preseason defensive player of the year.

FYI: Vaughn, a junior who attended Cedar Ridge High in Round Rock , enters the season No. 11 all-time at Kansas State with 2,046 rushing yards. If he maintains his career pace of 89.0 yards per game over the first eight contests, he'll be fifth by the time the Wildcats face the Longhorns.

Nov. 12: TCU

For the last 11 Texas-TCU games, Gary Patterson was the Horned Frogs' head coach. Now he's with the Longhorns. Patterson was hired as a special assistant at Texas this offseason. Now coaching TCU is Sonny Dykes, whose father Spike went 6-7 against Texas while coaching Texas Tech from 1987-99.

TCU was 5-7 in 2021. Patterson and the Horned Frogs went their separate ways after the eighth game. TCU failed to qualify for a bowl game for only the third time since 2005.

About the Horned Frogs: TCU returns 17 starters (10 offense, 7 defense). TCU retained all-conference WR Quentin Johnston, but lost its leading rusher. ... Former Texas TE Jared Wiley has joined an offense that averaged 28.7 points per game. ... CB Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, the nephew of TCU great LaDainian Tomlinson and a two-time all-Big 12 pick, returns to a defense that held just one team under 28 points.

FYI: Johnston was once a Texas commit, but the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Temple product signed with TCU in 2020. Over the past two seasons, he has averaged 20.4 yards on 55 catches. Last season, he had 100-yard games against Oklahoma, West Virginia and Baylor.

Nov. 19: at Kansas

To say that Kansas has Texas' number would be hyperbole. But after last year's stunning upset in Austin, the Jayhawks should have the Longhorns' undivided attention.

That 57-56 overtime victory was KU's second over Texas in six years, after the 2016 overtime upset in Lawrence. Those two losses have sandwiched three Texas wins in this series, but the Longhorns beat Kansas by just seven points in 2018 and needed a walk-off field goal to secure a 50-48 win in 2019 . (The 2020 game was canceled.)

Throw out the Texas games and Kansas is 2-46 in Big 12 play over the past six years. The average margin of defeat in those 46 losses was 27.4 points.

About the Jayhawks: Kansas returns 17 starters (9 offense, 8 defense). Sophomore running back Devin Neal scored four times last year against Texas and is coming off of a 707-yard debut season. He'll be joined in the backfield by Minnesota transfer Ky Thomas, who ran for 824 yards last year. Senior safety Kenny Logan Jr. was the lone Jayhawk to earn a spot on the Big 12's all-defensive team.

FYI: Kansas went 2-10 in Lance Leipold's first year with the program, only his third losing season in 15 years as a head coach. Leipold was 146-39 from 2007-20 as the head coach at Buffalo and Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Nov. 25: Baylor

Since Oklahoma plays Texas at a neutral site every year and the Sooners were the Big 12 champions from 2015-20, this is the first time since 2014 that the conference's defending champion will play in Austin. Last year, Baylor held off Oklahoma State in the Big 12 finale to highlight a 12-2 season in which it beat Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl.

Were the Bears a flash in the pan? The media covering the conference doesn't seem to think so. In July, Baylor topped the Big 12 preseason poll for the first time in school history. Offensive linemen Connor Galvin and Jacob Gall and TE Ben Sims were all voted onto the Big 12's preseason team. Defensive lineman Siaki Ika and LB Dillon Doyle also represented Baylor on the preseason honor roll.

Texas and Baylor have played 111 times. The Bears recorded a 31-24 win last season and have won two of the last three meetings. Baylor last beat Texas in Austin in 2014.

About the Bears: Baylor returns 13 starters (6 offense, 7 defense). The Bears averaged 31.6 points per game last season, but 1,601-yard rusher Abram Smith and 948-yard receiver Tyquan Thornton are now in the NFL and 2,200-yard passer Gerry Bohanon transferred to South Florida. However, Blake Shapen was Baylor's starting QB in the Big 12 title game . And Doyle recorded 89 tackles for a defense that allowed 18.3 points per game, though three contributors were taken in the first three rounds of the NFL draft.

FYI: Ika was the 2021 Big 12 defensive newcomer of the year after the 6-foot-4, 358-pound nose tackle compiled 4 1/2 sacks. He transferred to Baylor after starting his collegiate career at LSU. Baylor coach Dave Aranda was Ika's defensive coordinator when LSU won the national title in 2019.

2024 Zurich Classic leaderboard, scores: Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry among leaders after Round 1

Mcilroy and lowry headline a crowded leaderboard as the competition moves to foursomes for friday.

rory-mcilroy-shane-lowry-round-1-2024-zurich-classic-g.jpg

There aren't many firsts left for Rory McIlroy to achieve in his PGA Tour career, but he checked one off the list Thursday at TPC Louisiana. Making his debut appearance in the Zurich Classic, the 34-year-old looked like the seasoned veteran he is alongside Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry. The two fired an 11-under 61 in the four-ball format amid the windy afternoon conditions to sit with the teams of Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard, Aaron Rai and David Lipsky and Ben Kohles and Patton Kizzire atop the leaderboard after Round 1.

While this week marks McIlroy's first attempt at claiming the PGA Tour's annual team event, it also represents his 11th start of the year as he continues to play through some relative early season struggles. McIlroy had no issues in the first round as he drove the ball beautifully, struck towering iron shots and picked apart the par-72 layout in unison with Lowry.

"You know that you sort of need to get off to a good start, and thankfully we did," McIlroy said. "We were 4 under through 4, which was really nice to see, and from there you've got some momentum and you're just trying to keep it going. But for the most part today, we kept both balls in play. We were having two looks basically on every hole at birdie, and that's the way you need to play better ball. Everyone thinks it's maybe a bit more gung ho than that, but as long as you have two balls in play off the tee, two balls on the green, I think you're always going to do pretty well in this format."

The two began their days with four birdies out the gate and tacked on a couple more to turn in 6-under 30. A birdie on No. 10 was followed with a disappointing par on the par-5 11th, but that did nothing to dampen their spirits. McIlroy struck his best iron of the day into the 12th when he feathered an 8 iron against the wind and to tap-in distance.

Lowry picked him up on the very next hole with a birdie of his own to get the team to 9 under and added another on the difficult par-3 14th to get to double digits under par. With four holes remaining, the two appeared likely to overtake the clubhouse lead, but a couple middling pars to go along with one last birdie on the par-5 18th meant there will be four teams sleeping on the lead tonight before the competition transitions to foursomes on Friday.

Let's take a look around the rest of the leaderboard after the first round in Louisiana.

The leaders

T1. Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry, David Lipsky/Aaron Rai, Ryan Brehm/Mark Hubbard, Ben Kohles/Patton Kizzire (-11)

Outside McIlroy and Lowry, the top of the leaderboard is surprising, to say the least. Hubbard has notched a couple top 20s, a top five and has yet to miss a cut this season while Rai has been solid, but the rest of the lot haven't seen the weekend with much consistency. Hubbard's teammate, Brehm, has seven missed cuts in 11 starts. Rai's teammate, Lipsky, has missed eight cuts in 11 starts and is without a top 40. Kizzire has six missed cuts and a withdrawal in nine starts, and Kohles has six missed cuts and a withdrawal in 11 starts. Four-ball can hide deficiencies, but the same cannot be said for foursomes, which will be played Friday and Sunday.

"Just like usual, we ham-and-egged it," Hubbard said. "I don't think either of us were feeling amazing about our games coming into the day, but we just feed off each other really well. We relax each other out there, and best ball is just a fun format. I didn't putt great last week, but he had a lot of holes where he snuggled it up there nice and close for par and it really freed me up. You just kind of get confidence that way, and I think even you watching me make some putts gave you confidence and you poured them in at the end."

Other contenders

T5. Davis Thompson/Andrew Novak, Thomas Detry/Robert MacIntyre, Cameron Champ/MJ Daffue (-10) T8. Sam Stevens/Paul Barjon, Garrick Higgo/Ryan Fox, Luke List/Henrik Norlander, Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith, Zac Blair/Patrick Fishburn, Marc Meissner/Austin Smotherman, Callium Tarren/David Skinns, Keith Mitchell/Joel Dahmen (-9)

Detry and MacIntyre got off to a dream start by playing their first four holes in 4 under. After hitting a lull, the two turned it on and carded six back-nine birdies to shoot 10-under 62. MacIntyre has the team experience from this past fall's Ryder Cup, while Detry has been enjoying a very solid 2024 campaign. The staying power of all these teams on this leaderboard is interesting given the volatility of foursomes, but the two Europeans should be up to the task.

I think it's about leaving each other to it," MacIntyre said regarding Friday's strategy. "We're both good players, both know what we're doing with the golf ball. It's just trusting each other. If I hit a good shot, you hit a good shot. If you hit a bad shot, don't say sorry, you're not meaning to do it. You just keep walking forward and keep trying to hit good shots and committing to them and see where we end up. Can't really do anything about it. It's difficult because you might not hit a 5-foot putt until the 17th hole. It's completely different. All you can do is try your best."

2024 Zurich Classic updated odds, picks

Odds via Sportsline consensus

  • Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry: 13/5
  • Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay: 10-1
  • Aaron Rai/David Lipsky: 15-1
  • Thomas Detry/Robert MacIntyre: 16-1
  • Andrew Novak/David Thompson: 16-1
  • Nick Taylor/Adam Hadwin: 18-1
  • Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith: 18-1
  • Joel Dahmen/Keith Mitchell: 20-1

Let's roll with the 2022 champion at 10-1. Schauffele and Cantlay burned a ton of edges on Thursday but kept themselves in it with a late flurry of birdies. They now transition to foursomes for two of the next three days where they were dominant a year ago. In 2023, the two fired a 9-under 63 in Round 2 and a 6-under 66 in Round 4 in this format. If they card something similar in the mid 60s tomorrow, they should be in business heading into the weekend.
