The tour will continue to support his 2022 album Dawn FM , released Jan. 6 via XO/Republic Records. He quickly responded with an expanded edition, Dawn FM: Alternative World .

Dawn FM featured previously shared tracks “ Take My Breath ” and “ Sacrifice .” Cliqua directed the visual for both tracks.

Speaking of “Sacrifice,” Chxrry22 , signed to XO Records, recently released her version .

Throughout the year, The Weeknd dished out alternate versions of Dawn FM tracks, including “ Out of Time ,” “How Do I Make You Love Me?” and “ Best Friend ,” to name a few.

Kaytranada remixed variations for the first track, while Summer Walker joined The Weeknd for the latter standout.

The Weeknd earned two nominations at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, including Male Artist of 2022 and Album of 2022 ( Dawn FM ).

Music aside, The Weeknd has a new series coming to HBO and HBO Max titled The Idol . It’s described as “the sleaziest love story in all Hollywood.” (The trailer can be viewed above.)

Briefly touching on Kaytranada, he recently released “ Twin Flame ” with Anderson .Paak in August. He contributed production to Joyce Wrice ‘s recent project, Motive , released in October.

Kaytranada is nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“ Intimated ” featuring H.E.R.) at the 65th Grammy Awards. The track appears on his 2021 EP of the same name.

The Weeknd has cancelled his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour of Australia

Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd kneels on a stadium stage in an all white outfit white singing into a microphone

  • X (formerly Twitter)

Update 23/04/2024 :  The Weeknd  has cancelled the Australian and New Zealand leg of his After Hours Til Dawn  tour.

In an email sent out to ticketholders from Ticketek , full refunds will be made to everyone while the company continues to "work through the rescheduling process with the artist".

Although the tour is still very up in the air, Ticketek encouraged fans to sing up to a waitlist to get access to a priority pre-sale when tickets go  back  on sale. It's not clear when - or if - this will happen.

Update 3/11/2023  - The Weeknd has postponed the Australia and New Zealand leg of his After Hours Til Dawn tour due to "unforeseen circumstances".

In a statement released on Friday afternoon (Nov 3), The Weeknd shared that the tour will be rescheduled for 2024, with confirmed dates to come.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour," he said.

"New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!"

A spokesperson from the tour's promoter Live Nation said the company is "focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule".

The After Hours Til Dawn tour was set to kick off in Brisbane on November 20, and take in several dates down the east coast.

Those with tickets will be contacted with the new dates when they're locked in, and if you can't make it you can get a refund from where you bought your tickets.

Original story:  It's been a long six years but The Weeknd is finally coming back down under for some frankly monstrous shows at the tail end of the year.

If you've been following along on TikTok and Instagram, you'll have seen the enormous productions Abel Tesfaye has been putting on for his After Hours Til Dawn stadium world tour. It's a real spectacle, and now that energy is coming down under for a run of big performances in November and December.

The stadium run has been totally sold out to date, breaking records all over the place and with 1.6million fans filling huge venues right across Europe. It's got everything – flames, a massive catwalk stage, a huge moon, a big chrome femme figure, an MF Doom -inspired mask. The visuals are truly next level.

And the crowd work, well, that really speaks for itself.

The Weeknd is taking over multiple stadiums in Australia with this mammoth tour. He'll be smashing into Meanjin/Brisbane on November 20 before heading down to Gadigal Land/Sydney on November 24 and then rounding it out in Naarm/Melbourne on December 1.

Update:  Huge news for everyone who's desperate to get to these stadium shows, The Weeknd has locked in extra dates in all three cities!

Update 11/09/2023:  In exciting news for Naarm fans, The Weeknd has locked in a fourth show at Marvel Stadium, bumping out his huge Aussie run to nine dates.

He'll now be sticking around for an extra appearance on Tuesday 5 December, heating things up at the start of summer.

Tickets for the new show are on sale from 2pm local time on Wednesday 13 September, and you can find out more over on the tour website . Get your group chat sorted right now because these tickets are going to go fast.

Check out the important dates and details below.

The Weeknd

The Weeknd has pledged another $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to the World Food Programme’s humanitarian response efforts in war-torn Gaza.

According to a statement released on Monday (April 29), the money from the artist who now goes by his real name, Abel Tesfaye, will be used to provide more than 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, which can be used to make more than 18 million loaves of bread to feed more than 157,000 Palestinians for a month.

“We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza,” Barron Segar, WFP USA president/CEO said in a statement. “Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen. Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need.”

To date, Tesfaye, his partners and fans have raised more than $6.5 million for the Fund, with the singer directing $4.5 million toward Gaza relief.

The UN reported last week that after nearly seven months of Israeli bombardment WFP’s Geneva office director said , “People cannot meet even the most basic, food needs. They have exhausted all coping strategies, like eating animal fodder, begging, selling off their belongings to buy food. They are most of the time destitute and clearly some of them are dying of hunger.”

Why Is Everyone Beefing With Drake?

By Jeff Ihaza

On the night of April 13, after the apparent leak of his diss track “ Push Ups (Drop & Give Me Fifty) ,” Drake posted a screenshot from the movie Kill Bill on his Instagram Story. It was the film’s iconic fight scene, during which Uma Thurman’s character takes on a room full of ninja assassins only to emerge victorious. The metaphor couldn’t be more applicable to Drake’s current situation, as he fends off what many are describing as “ Rap ’s Avengers,” out for blood since the release of Future and Metro Boomin ’s We Don’t Trust You .

The current flare-up of tensions appears to be dredging up dirty laundry going back several years at least. It finds Drizzy in the cross-hairs of several past collaborators and friends, suggesting a rift within a generation of hip-hop stars finally coming to a head. Here’s a running list of the players in rap’s burgeoning civil war.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, metro boomin.

Metro’s animosity towards Drake might also stem from Her Loss , as Metro expressed frustration at the record receiving more attention than his own Heroes & Villain s during awards season, tweeting “Yet her loss still keeps winning rap album of the year over H&V. proof that award shows are just politics and not for me,” before deleting the post moments later. Many fans believe Drake then responded during a livestream on the gambling platform Stake, where he said: “To the rest of you — the non-believers, the underachievers, the tweet and deleters — you guys make me sick to my stomach, fam.” Metro has since taken to social media with veiled jabs referring to taking “sides,” which by now seem like clear references to Drizzy.

Kendrick Lamar

Drake joins nicki minaj onstage for live debut of 'needle', drake winks at kendrick lamar's latest diss track with '10 things i hate about you' clip, kendrick did everything he needed to on ‘euphoria’.

Rick Ross has been one of Drake’s most consistent collaborators over the years, so his appearance on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You cut “Everyday Hustle” came as a surprise to many. But rumors have circulated online about possible friction between the two in the past. Even before diss tracks started flying, one of Rick Ross’ exes, Tia Kemp, went on Instagram Live and claimed that Ross habitually made negative comments behind Drake’s back. Ever since Drake sort-of-dropped “Push Ups” over the weekend, featuring a direct shot at “Ricky’s” age, Ross has been on attack mode. He started with his own diss track, “Champagne Moments,” featuring cover art of a viral yearbook photo of a white man from the Fifties that circulated online around 2019 because of his apparent resemblance to Drake. On the track, Ross repeatedly calls Drake “white boy,” in reference to his mixed-race background, and alleges that Drake only associated with street rappers early in his career to gain legitimacy. Since its release, the two have waged an all-out meme war online.

Another former collaborator taking shots at Drake is A$AP Rocky, who appeared on the We Don’t Trust You follow-up We Still Don’t Trust You. In his feature on the track “Show of Hands,” he says “Niggas in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or somethin’?/I smashed before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son.” Drake and Rocky’s tension appears on the surface to be about Rocky’s current relationship with Rihanna, with whom he has two sons, and whom Drake infamously felt rejected by circa Thank Me Later . However, Rocky’s verse also recalls many of the rumors around Drake’s last public beef, with Pusha T. Back then, it was rumored that Rocky was responsible for leaking the information about Drake’s then-secret son Adonis to Pusha. Now, it seems Rocky might be claiming to have been with the mother of Drake’s son before him which, in fairness, is kind of an odd thing for the father of Rihanna’s children to be bragging about on a diss track.

Among the more random responses on Drake’s “Push Ups” is a reference to Ja Morant, the “hooper that be bustin’ out the griddy,” as Drake puts it. Apparently, Morant responded in affirmation to one of Metro Boomin’s cryptic posts about picking a side, and Drake took notice. The source of the tension between the two appears to be Drake dating the NBA star’s ex, the model and influencer Johanna Leia.

Soon after the shots started flying towards Drizzy, the rapper Nav reportedly unfollowed Drake on Instagram, the tell-tale sign of tension among celebrities. It’s unclear what, if anything, Nav is mad about, and fans online seem to find the Canadian artist’s involvement in the beef comedic more than anything.

In a way, all of this is J. Cole’s fault. It was his line on “First Person Shooter” that awoke Kendrick’s desire for smoke, and he even went as far as dropping a Kendrick diss of his own , only to retract it and apologize a few days later — before getting into it once again by appearing on the follow-up to Future and Metro’s album. The track “Red Leather,” from We Still Don’t Trust You , isn’t an outright diss, but a case of guilt by association. After all, Metro has been promoting both projects with the notion of picking a side, making Cole’s decision to collaborate with him and Future (mere days after ostensibly standing in defense of himself and Drizzy) either an unforced error or an act of war. For his part, Drake addressed the situation on “Push Ups,” rapping “I don’t care what Cole thinks, that Dot shit was weak as fuck.”

After Drake officially released his response track “Push Ups” to streaming platforms, longtime nemesis Kanye West joined in on the acrimony, jumping on a remix of Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” Kanye and Drake’s feud goes back to 2018, when Pusha T took shots at Drake on a Kanye-produced beat, which resulted in a series of responses on Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle,” and ended with Pusha T’s now infamous “The Story of Adidon.” Kanye and Drake’s tension continued after Ye dropped “Lift Yourself,” featuring a beat Drake allegedly expressed interest in and that Kanye decided to figuratively take a dump on. Internet rumors about Drake and Kim Kardashian, Kanye’s appearances on podcasts and on social media, as well as subliminal on Drake’s more recent releases, suggest the feud will go on into the foreseeable future.

A brief tour of pop music’s caffeine addiction.

Hear songs by Sabrina Carpenter, Squeeze, SZA and more.

the weeknd tour playlist 2023

By Lindsay Zoladz

Dear listeners,

A few weeks ago in our Friday feature the Playlist, I recommended a bubbly new single by the pop artist Sabrina Carpenter and made a bold prediction: “Get ready to hear this one everywhere.” Even more quickly than I imagined, the prophecy has come true. Last week, “Espresso” debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Carpenter’s highest charting hit yet. More important, it has taken over the nation’s psyche. You can hardly go anywhere these days without hearing someone quoting the song’s infectious hook “That’s that me espresso” or wondering aloud, “what is a ‘me espresso?’”

That’s a profound philosophical question for another day. Today, we are simply honoring the absurdist joy of “Espresso” with a playlist of songs about caffeinated beverages.

Coffee has been a consistently evocative theme throughout pop musical history, so this mix travels from 1940 right up to the present moment. That trusty beverage is often used to describe a sophisticated kind of romance (as it does on Otis Redding ’s swooning ballad “Cigarettes and Coffee”) or perhaps the idle hours waiting around for said romance to occur (see Peggy Lee ’s sultry take on the 1948 standard “Black Coffee”). Chappell Roan tries to use it as a shield against romance on a track from her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” reasoning with a former flame, “I’ll meet you for coffee, ’cause if we have wine/You’ll say that you want me, I know that’s a lie.”

In “Espresso,” Carpenter uses the caffeine metaphor to suggest how restless she makes a guy she has wrapped around her finger: “Say you can’t sleep? Baby, I know.” Also, crucially, she understands that “espresso” rhymes with “I guess so.” That’s poetry.

It’s time for the percolator,

Listen along while you read.

1. sabrina carpenter: “espresso”.

A breezy summer bop with a dash of bizarro humor, “Espresso” is about to be blaring from every other beachside boombox. Carpenter’s gloriously unbothered vocal and the track’s disco-inflected sheen make the whole thing go down easy. ▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

2. Squeeze: “Black Coffee in Bed”

A memorable image — “there’s a stain on my notebook where your coffee cup was” — kicks off this smoldering, six-minute classic about trying to move on from a relationship while concrete memories linger all around. (And yes, that is Elvis Costello on backing vocals.) The British band Squeeze’s songwriter and guitarist Chris Difford revealed in a 2019 interview that an actual coffee ring inspired those opening lines: “Yeah,” he said . “I still have the notepad in my office.”

3. Peggy Lee: “Black Coffee”

The great Peggy Lee kicks off her 1956 debut album with an elegant reading of this song, written by Sonny Burke and Paul Francis Weber and first made famous by Sarah Vaughan. That titular brew helps her stay awake as she waits up for an absent lover: “I walk the floor and watch the door/And in between I drink/Black coffee.”

4. SZA: “Percolator”

This brief but effervescent track from the deluxe edition of SZA’s 2017 debut album, “Ctrl,” chronicles the singer’s insecurities and doubts before declaring, “I wanna be a percolator.” I’m just going to pretend she’s talking about the coffee kind.

5. The Ink Spots: “Java Jive”

This 1940 single from the pioneering vocal group the Ink Spots is a fun and slangy ode to a hot cup of Joe. “Slip me a slug from the wonderful mug,” singer Deek Watson croons, “and I’ll cut a rug till I’m snug in a jug.” And you thought “that’s that me espresso” was silly!

6. Otis Redding: “Cigarettes and Coffee”

Companionship and good conversation make an ordinary moment glow — “just talking over cigarettes and coffee” — in this warm, crackling ballad from Otis Redding’s “The Soul Album.” “I don’t want no cream and sugar,” he sings, “’cause I’ve got you now, darling.”

7. Chappell Roan: “Coffee”

This playlist began with one rising pop girlie, and it concludes with another: the suddenly ubiquitous Chappell Roan. Over a sparse but theatrical piano arrangement, Roan figures meeting an ex “only for coffee” is a better bet than meeting for dinner or drinks: “Nowhere else is safe, every place leads back to your place.” By the end, though, she’s not even sure a quick, caffeinated date is innocuous enough: “’Cause if we did coffee, it’s never just coffee.” Don’t even ask her about espresso.

Billie Eilish is dropping into Fortnite.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning recording artist has become a playable character for Fortnite Festival, a rhythm-based music game not unlike Rock Band. Eilish, 22, announced her imminent arrival to the virtual game's main stage in a post Monday on X that included a picture of her character in the game.

After teasing the partnership, Epic Games, the developer behind the massively popular online video game best known for its Battle Royale mode, released more details Tuesday.

Here's what to know about Eilish's role in the Fortnite Festival.

What is the Fortnite Festival?

Epic Games worked with Rock Band developer  Harmonix to add a musical mode called Fortnite Festival to the in-game experience in 2023.

Eilish is just the latest among a slate of stars, including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd , who have since graced the game's virtual main stage. Similar to Rock Band, the game mode allows players to join with up to three others to play a licensed soundtrack of hits songs and Fortnite originals on instruments of their choice.

If past events are any indication, players can likely expect to play as Eilish on the main stage performing her top hits that may include “ Happier Than Ever ,” “Therefore I Am” and “Oxytocin.”

As players progress through Season 3 of the Fortnite Festival, they can unlock rewards that include instruments, outfits and new songs to perform, according to Epic Games . Among those unlockable rewards is Eilish's neon green character skin and two Eilish-themed Instruments – a keytar and a microphone.

Season 3 ends June 13.

Billie Eilish's big year, from Oscar win to new album

Eilish has earned no shortage of accolades and awards ever since she burst into the music scene in 2019 with her debut album "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?"

The singer/songwriter has racked up nine Grammy wins and two Oscars, the latest of which came in March when she and her brother Finneas' melancholy ballad from the "Barbie" movie, "What Was I Made For?" won best original song.

Eilish has also revealed that her third album – and first since 2021's Grammy-nominated "Happier Than Ever" – is on the way. "Hit Me Hard and Soft" will arrive May 17 .
