TOUR EDGE ANNOUNCES 4 NEW IRON SETS AS PART OF THEIR EXOTICS 723 SERIES

February 7, 2023

Exotics C723 (Player’s Distance), E723 (Game Improvement), Pro 723 Forged and BL Prototype Blades to Launch March 1

Tour Edge, the pound for pound industry leader in performance and innovation, announces four new iron sets as part of the all-new Exotics 723 Series.

Today, Tour Edge announced the all-new Exotics 723 Series irons, including the more compact C723 Iron and the feel enhanced E723 Iron.

Both the Extreme (E) and Competition (C) ranges feature new technologies and setups designed to produce different playing characteristics targeting a specific player.

The performance and design goals of the Exotics 723 Irons from Tour Edge R&D are to provide every level of golfer with two extreme distance irons that feature full-face forgiveness and ball speed with a perfected sound and feel.

“Once again, we’ve made the tour-popular C723 player’s distance iron smaller than the previous iteration with a thinner top-line and shorter blade length. With the E723 iron, we expanded the sweet spot by adding more injected VIBRCOR performance TPU inside the clubhead,” said Tour Edge master club designer and President David Glod. “These are the best-looking and feeling E and C Exotics irons to date. The performance we’ve seen out of these irons has been extremely impressive to go along with these sharp new looks and impressive feel that we have created.”

Tour Edge is also launching the new Exotics Pro 723 Forged irons and the special-release Exotics BL Proto Blade irons as part of the 723 Series.

The Pro 723 Forged irons came about from the players on the PGA TOUR Champions requesting an iron featuring player-shaped forgiveness.

This led to a slightly larger forged cavity design. A VIBRCOR badge and over an hour of machining time on each iron head is the calling card of these forged beauties.

The BL Proto iron is a true prototype iron set that was designed by Glod with immense feedback from Tour Edge staff player Bernhard Langer.

Langer has played several of these prototype irons in tournament play in the 2022 season.

“The Pro 723 Forged iron is elegant and simplistic in its performance,” said Glod. “I think the first thing you’ll notice is the immaculate feel of the Pro 723 forged irons. Then you’ll see that they are some of the easiest to hit forged irons out there. That’s what the players were asking for and that is what this iron delivers. They are pretty special.”

“As far as the BL Proto irons are concerned, this is a true prototype that we are going to make available to the public through extremely select channels,” added Glod. “There are only about 100 sets, so keep a close eye to the Tour Edge feeds on how these will become available to the end-consumer through a special release.”

The new ultra-premium, high-performance Exotics 723 Series irons will be available for purchase worldwide on March 1, 2023. Pre-Sale starts February 8th and will go through February 28th.

Exotics E723 Iron

tour edge prototype irons

This ultra-premium extreme distance iron is loaded with tech, including Tour Edge’s revolutionary VIBRCOR™ technology and breakthrough Diamond Face VFT ™ technology that give these irons incredible power and feel.

VIBRCOR Technology – A high-grade TPU strategically injected into the deep 360-degree undercut pocket to create this unique speed-inducing and feel-enhancing internal technology.

The E723 Irons feature more VIBRCOR in the clubhead to further enhance feel and create more speed. It also now features visible VIBRCOR on the back of the clubhead.

VIBRCOR TPU significantly alters the feel of the clubhead, produces faster ball speed, dampens sound and shock, and creates perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead for maximum forgiveness and power off the face. VIBRCOR allows for this sleek, extremely long and forgiving iron head to have the support, sound and feel of a forged iron in an Extreme Game Improvement iron body.

Diamond Face VFT – Different diamond shapes of variable face thickness behind the face function as minitrampolines to create faster ball speeds and expand the sweet spot to outer

areas of the face. There are 99 total Diamond shapes featured on Diamond Face VFT that cover the entire face of the E723 Iron.

Diamond Face VFT features three different thicknesses in an interweaving pattern and features a face thickness reduction on the heel and toe for even greater forgiveness.

The mini trampolines that make-up Diamond Face VFT create faster ball speeds and an expanded sweet spot. The full-face increase in Diamond Face VFT coverage to the extreme heel and toe coverage ball speed on off-center hits while also greatly aiding forgiveness on these strikes.

360° Undercut Design – The design is a one-piece high-strength steel body with a 360-degree Undercut Design. What does it do? It lowers the CG to produce a higher launch and increases face flexing, ball speed and overall distance across the entire face. The multi-material electroform cap now features carbon fiber for added perimeter weighting.

Extreme Toe Weighting – Extreme Toe Weighting achieved on the high toe in the rear portion of the club along with a new toe weighting pocket. This dual toe weighting elongates the sweet spot to achieve a higher MOI and strategic CG positioning right behind center face and further optimizes the sound and feel of the iron.

Stock Shafts: KBS TGI Tour Graphite 50 L, Tensei AV Blue 65 A/R/S/X, Project X HZRDUS Black Gen 4 80 R/S/X, True Temper Elevate 95 MPH R/S, KBS Tour Steel R/S/X

Available Lofts in Right-Handed – #4 iron/19°, #5 iron/21.5°, #6 iron/24°, #7 iron/27.5°, #8 iron/32°, #9 iron/37°, PW/42°, AW/46°, GW/51° SW/56°

Exotics C723 Iron

tour edge prototype irons

This ultra-premium player’s distance iron loaded with tech like the revolutionary VIBRCOR™ technology and Tour Edge’s breakthrough Diamond Face VFT™ technology that gives these irons incredible power and feel.

VIBRCOR Technology – A high-grade TPU injected into the hollow-body pocket to create a new speed inducing and feel-enhancing internal technology.

VIBRCOR performance gel injected into the hollow-body cavity produces faster ball speed, dampen sound and shock at impact and to create perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead for maximum forgiveness and power off the face.

VIBRCOR treatment creates the feel of a full flush cavity iron in a sleek, extremely long and forgiving iron head that has the support, sound and feel of a forged iron in a player’s distance iron body.

Diamond Face VFT – Different diamond shapes of variable face thickness behind the face function as minitrampolines to create faster ball speeds and expand the sweet spot to outer areas of the face. There are 94 total Diamond shapes featured on Diamond Face VFT that cover the entire face of the C723 iron.

Military Grade Maraging Steel L-Cup Face – A high-strength forged Military-Grade Maraging Steel Face is plasma-welded onto a 17-4 stainless steel body. This ultra-high-strength steel is used in aerospace, with applications including landing gear, helicopter undercarriages, slat tracks and rocket motor cases and other applications which require a high strength-to-weight material.

This allowed Tour Edge to produce a significantly thinner face, the thinnest in an Exotics iron to date. It also helped dramatically increase face flex across a greater surface area of the club face.

The L-Cup Face acts as a hinge designed to improve accuracy and protect off-center ball speed.

Hollow-body Design with Player Preferred Shaping – The hollow-body Exotics C723 Iron features a 5% smaller clubhead with a shorter blade length and a thinner topline. The more classic shape of the C723 features more traditional lofting from iron to iron.

This hollow-body iron design of the Exotics C723 Iron offers extreme perimeter weighting to create the distance and forgiveness of a metalwood combined with the feel and control of a forged iron set. The hollow body design allows for increased face flex, and the ability to have a thinner face and a deeper CG in a thin-sole iron design.

Available Lofts in Right-Handed – #3 iron/19, #4 iron/21°, #5 iron/23°, #6 iron/26.5°, #7 iron/30°, #8 iron/34°, #9 iron/39° PW/44°, AW/49°

  • $144.99 each in graphite /$999.99 for 7-piece set in graphite
  • $129.99 each in steel /$899.99 for 7-piece set in steel

Exotics Pro 723 Forged Iron

tour edge prototype irons

This slightly larger forged cavity-back iron came about via tour feedback asking for player-shaped forgiveness. The ultra-premium Pro 723 Forged irons are CNC milled to precise tolerances and the face grooves designed to maximize performance throughout the set is also CNC milled to offer the thinnest face possible without sacrificing feel.

Player Shaped Forgiveness – A slightly larger forged cavity design based on tour player feedback. The larger CNC milled cavity allowed Tour Edge engineers to move critical weight behind the center of the face and to the lower portion of the head for maximum forgiveness while maintaining a thin top line and classic look at address.

Meticulous Machining Process – Every iron head spends over an hour being CNC milled to exacting tolerances. After the forging process, the faces are CNC milled to precise tolerances and the face grooves are designed to maximize performance throughout the set. The heel and toe pockets in the cavity are also CNC milled to offer the thinnest face possible without sacrificing feel.

VIBRCOR Filled Cavity – A VIBRCOR TPU badge located inside the cavity. The VIBRCOR dampens shock and provides a buttery muscle-back feel while aiding perimeter weighting and overall forgiveness.

Center Cavity Pad – A thick pad of extra steel in the center of the cavity behind the face. The added weight in the center of the cavity allows for center hits to have greater power. It also allows the heel and toe pockets of the cavity to be precision milled as thin as possible to provide maximum forgiveness and feel on off-center contact.

Stock Shafts: TrueTemper Dynamic Gold 105 R/S/X

Available Lofts in Right-Handed – #3 iron/20°, #4 iron/22°, #5 iron/25°, #6 iron/28°, #7 iron/32°, #8 iron/36°, #9 iron/40° PW/44°, AW/48°

Retail Price: $169.99 each in steel /$1189.99 for 7-piece set in steel

Exotics BL Proto Iron

tour edge prototype irons

Tour Edge chief designer David Glod worked directly with Bernhard Langer perfecting every millimeter of these milled forged blades.

The long irons feature some special tech with two tungsten plugs directly behind the face.

“After Langer first put these new prototype irons into play at the 2022 Masters, we have continued with the ageless wonder to tune them in just right,” said Glod.

“Along the way I realized that this was the perfect blade for a ton of golfers out there that don’t ever really get an opportunity to purchase. Bernhard likes a lot of offset in his blades, which is a rare thing to find. So, I decided that we will announce a special release with these prototypes to help fill a niche that exists in the marketplace. Stay tuned!”

In our effort to assemble the 2024 best irons, we have again compiled an expert panel of fitters to help you find out which of the 2024 irons is best for your game.

Ultimately the best way to find your personal best iron set is to work with a professional fitter using a launch monitor. The difficult part is a lot of people don’t have easy access to fitters, launch monitors, and club builders — so at GolfWRX, we have done a lot of the work for you.

We are in the era of not just maximizing distance but also minimizing the penalty of common misses for each player — this applies to irons just as much as it does with any other club in the bag. And of course, proper set makeup and gapping is essential. This is why, now more than ever, custom fitting is essential to help you see results on every swing you make.

We want to give you the tools and information to go out and find what works best for you by offering recommendations for your individual iron set wants and needs with insight and feedback from the people who work every single day to help golfers get peak performance out of their equipment.

Best irons of 2024: The process

The best fitters in the world see all the options available in the marketplace, analyze their performance traits, and pull from that internal database of knowledge and experience like a supercomputer when they are working with a golfer.

It’s essentially a huge decision tree derived from experience and boiled down to a starting point of options—and it has nothing to do with a handicap!

Modern iron sets are designed into player categories that overlap the outdated “what’s your handicap?” model, and at GolfWRX we believe it was important to go beyond handicap and ask specific questions about the most crucial performance elements fitters are looking at.

These are the best iron categories we have developed to help you determine which category is most important for your swing and game.

Best irons of 2024: The categories

  • Overall performance
  • Easiest to launch/Slower swing speed
  • Pure enjoyment
  • Most technology-packed

2024 Best irons: Most technology packed

tour edge prototype irons

This is the “give me everything you got” list. These irons are the cream of the crop for offering technology to improve feel, distance, and ball speed. The great thing about the technology category is it’s not reserved for higher handicap golfers — it’s for anyone looking to get everything they can out of their game in an iron that also suits their eye.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke

tour edge prototype irons

Their story:  At the core of Callaway’s new Ai Paradym Smoke irons is the Ai Smart Face. With the Ai Smart Face, these irons are designed to promote exceptional distance, tight dispersion into the green, and optimal launch in a modern construction. The new shape consists of longer blade lengths, thinner toplines, and optimized sole widths in a bid to create a forgiving, yet streamlined look at address. In addition, an all-new Dynamic Sole Design features a pre-worn leading edge with variable bounce that cuts through the turf with efficiency.

Fitter comments:

  • “That thing is an absolute rocket launcher. For the guy who flips at it, it’s perfect. It definitely launches lower spins less. it just goes forever compared to, you know, compared to a lot of them that we, that we tested.”
  • “I mean, it’s actually probably one of the cleaner-looking kind of game improvement irons. You know, some of them, they can get kind of beefy, but the look of that one that’s very appealing to the eye. The AI technology that Callaway has been using for a couple of years now, it’s generating a ton of ball speed for guys, but also at a point where they’re still getting a lot of peak heights on it. So it’s not like you feel like you’re just hitting bullets out there.”
  • “If a guy is looking to just hit it far, that’s probably the best thing out there. Callaway’s always had like crazy hot iron faces in that mid-size game improvement-type club. And this is just the next version of it. This thing is crazy fast. Shockingly, for how strong the lofts are, the ball still gets up in the air pretty good.”
  • “When it comes to pure technology the Paradym Ai Smoke iron has it all. Super computers helping engineers design the back of the face based on over 250,000 shots make it an amazing tech iron alone.”
  • “Classic Callaway story with face variability that is AI-driven along with material and design. Tons of tech. With Ai Smart Face and a hollow body design, they make it to the top as far as technology goes.”

TaylorMade P790

tour edge prototype irons

Their story: Engineers utilized the variables of tungsten weighting, SpeedFoam Air, and internal mass — with an assist from AI — to precisely give golfers what they need in each iron. For example, launch and forgiveness in the long irons. More specifically, TaylorMade is using what the company calls FLTD CG (flighted CG) to strategically position CG throughout the set (lower in the long irons, higher in the short irons). CG is positioned almost a millimeter lower in the long irons compared to previous generations. In the shorter irons, the higher CG positions allowed engineers to dial in spin and promote accuracy.

  • “Best combination of everything. The amalgamation of all irons on the market blended into one mathematically perfect design.”
  • “I think people recognize the name. It’s a very popular club. It stands up to every model in a category.”
  • “That’s the staple in the players distance category. It’s year-in, year-out. It’s tough to beat TaylorMade — they don’t go wrong with that iron, for sure. They make little refinements, but it’s almost like, yeah, just keep making little refinements. Don’t kind of mess that up just because the, I mean, it, it fits such a wide range of players and it’s just such a good iron that fits a wide, wide range of handicaps.”
  • “I think where TaylorMade kind of struggled over the past is getting that spin on the golf club, and I think each generation it just keeps getting better. I think they did an awesome job.”
  • “If it’s not our best-selling iron in the fitting center, it’s always like number two. It’s such a great, great performer across the board. And yeah, it just keeps getting better every year. It’s really awesome; crazy distance on that thing too.”

Titleist T350

tour edge prototype irons

Their story: The new T350 irons are still built for maximum distance and forgiveness, but they were redesigned with a hollow-body construction that’s inspired by the T200. Like the T200, the T350 also uses Max Impact Technology behind the face to maximize speed and forgiveness, and dual-tungsten weights in the back cavity. The T350 irons are noticeably larger, and with thicker toplines, than the T200 irons for golfers who need the additional surface area and stability.

Fitter comments:

  • “The T350 is super good. They definitely cleaned it up, cleaned up that topline a little bit and made it…a little bit more compact, a little bit smaller for sure.”
  • “You know, I think is one of those irons that maybe sometimes can get overlooked. I don’t know…some guys, they think ‘Titleist,’ they can’t hit it. If someone’s in this category, it’s always a club you’re gonna have.”
  • “So like this is the first one in that model that’s had like a forged face and, and, and, and I think that just improved the feel of it. Topline to me looks a little bit cleaner and, they do a nice job of hiding the offset doesn’t look quite obnoxious when you look down at it. I don’t know if it’s like the chrome that they put or whatever, but it looks a lot cleaner at address. The iron’s always been super easy to get up in here.”
  • “That type of customer, I know they all want to do is just hit it nice and far. But we’re seeing so many guys come in that just need help getting it airborne in that moderate kind of clubhead speed category. And this thing is probably, if not the easiest, one of the easiest irons in this category to launch. And I think that’s what makes it so great.”
  • “High launch is a key component to this iron. Clean look, with reduced offset and a better look for a players game improvement iron. Players are surprised that this is a game improvement iron based on the looks and package size.”

Srixon ZX5 Mk II

tour edge prototype irons

Their story:  MainFrame v2 was developed with an Automated Intelligence process, flex-maximizing variable thickness pattern of grooves, channels, and cavities carefully milled into the backside of ZX5 iron faces for high ball speeds. Not only does MainFrame boost COR, but it also repositions mass away from the face and into the toe and sole for a lower CG for easier launch, more consistency, and forgiveness.

  • “I’m a big believer in the V-Sole. For high-speed guys who want a little forgiveness and are steep, it just doesn’t stick in the ground. Super soft and high launching. Not a ton of offset. It’s also been a good fit for moderate-to-high handicappers.”
  • “So I would say it, it kind of stands out in its category because it does launch higher than its competitors. It also sits in between some of the models, like, it doesn’t directly compete with a hollow cavity and it doesn’t compete with, like the Cobra King Tour. Like, it’s a degree stronger. For a forged iron, it performs great for us. The only problem is that it is a little bit light in a swing weight, so we have to be careful of who we fit.”
  • “It’s definitely one of our more popular irons for sure. You know, you get a guy who wants to play something small but still wants something more forgiving, and they don’t want kind of that full hollow body iron. I mean, that’s definitely one of our best sellers for sure. We’re seeing that a lot of combos — that’s a one iron that you can definitely combo with the ZX7 for sure.”
  • “I think a lot of guys like the concept of the V-Sole with them…If you’re talking an overall package, you know, for the guy that is looking for something clean. That’s a spectacular golf club. Good looks and good feel and great, you know, great performance, and it fits a lot of categories.”
  • “I think the one struggle a lot of companies have with that category is getting something to spin, so to try and give like guys so they don’t get those knuckleball shots or that fly out of the rough that goes 20 yards longer. I kind of think that that’s what I think makes that item so good is you get some spin on it, and I think it, it looks and feels good enough that like it, a guy that’s a mid-single digit can play it and be like, yeah, that’s good enough for me. But it’s also forgiving enough that a guy that’s in that kind of 12-to-15 kind of category if he wants to reach a little bit and play something that might look a little bit better. It just fits such a huge, huge range of players. I think it’s just awesome.”

tour edge prototype irons

Their story:  Billed as Ping’s “longest iron ever,” the G430 irons combine a lower CG with stronger, custom- engineered lofts and a thinner face that delivers up to two more mph of ball speed, per the company. At the heart of the new addition is the PurFlex cavity badge, an innovation that features seven flex zones that allow more free bending in design to increase ball speed across the face. In combination with a lower CG, the badge aims to contribute to a solid feel and pleasing impact sound.

  • “The best G.I. iron on the market. Easy to hit and launch while making great ball speed for distance.”
  • “The best iron in the game improvement category. High launch and packed with forgiveness on those off-center hits. It’s one of the easiest irons to hit. So easy to hit and look at for the average golfer.”
  • “Yeah, I mean, that’s definitely a go-to and in the matrix for sure. I mean, it’s just super easy to hit, super forgiving. They don’t mess that iron up.”
  • “Ping does a great job of building golf clubs. Their design is fantastic and it’s not for everybody, you know, it’s not the lowest-spinning club…but it sure is one of the most forgiving golf clubs and most consistent golf clubs. Ping G430 in that category of club, you can have something that a good player who needs a little help maybe can use because it’s consistent across the face, and you can’t do that with some of the other clubs because they’re not as consistent across the face for the ball speeds. It is a monster for us.”
  • “The best iron in the game improvement category. It’s one of the easiest irons to hit.”

Why Tony Finau is planning to play 2 drivers at the Masters

tour edge prototype irons

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt of a piece we originally filed this piece for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. You can read the full piece there.

Now, for the 2024 Masters specifically, Finau is planning to put another Ping G430 LST driver into play, in order to help him on the right-to-left holes at Augusta. The second driver, which is set to replace his 3-wood, will measure about the length of his 3-wood, and it has 10.5 degrees of loft, according to Ping Tour rep Kenton Oates.

“Tony Finau, most likely, will be playing two G430 LST drivers this week; his gamer, and a new shorter 10.5 headed option,” Oates told GolfWRX.com on Wednesday. “In the ramp-up towards The Masters, Tony and his team discussed options to optimize his performance off the tee. In discussing the tee shots around Augusta and second shots, Tony realized he would never hit 3-wood off the ground, minus maybe 8 if it was soft and into the wind.

“With that in mind, we felt it would be worth exploring a driver built to more 3-wood specs – shorter, more loft, etc. We build the driver in Houston and Tony carried it to Augusta to test. Right away it was giving him the performance he was looking for, allowing him to hit a straighter shot off the tee, or even draw it easier than his gamer driver, along with the added forgiveness benefits of using a driver instead of a 3-wood. Tony potentially could use the little driver on 2-7-10-14-17-18, pending course and wind conditions.”

Since Finau’s stock driver swing is grooved for a cut shot, maybe it’s unrealistic that Finau will hit big sweeping draws with the new, second driver option. But, according to Finau, it’s still a useful option, especially since he won’t need the 3-wood much this week.

“The [second] driver really goes straight, so there’s just no fade on it,” Finau told GolfWRX.com. “The draw holes out here, you don’t really have to turn it over, you just can’t hit a fade. But yeah, I’m going with two drivers.”

Tour Edge Announces 4 New Iron Sets as part of their Exotics 723 Series

They are pretty special.” “As far as the BL Proto irons are concerned, this is a true prototype that we are going to make available to the public through extremely select channels,” added Glod.

E723 Irons

Exotics E723 Iron

Diamond Face VFT – Different diamond shapes of variable face thickness behind the face function as minitrampolines to create faster ball speeds and expand the sweet spot to outer areas of the face.

C723 Irons Release

Exotics C723 Iron

$144.99 each in graphite /$999.99 for 7-piece set in graphite

$129.99 each in steel /$899.99 for 7-piece set in steel

723 Forged Irons

Exotics Pro 723 Forged Iron

$169.99 each in steel /$1189.99 for 7-piece set in steel

Tour Edge BL Proto Irons

Exotics BL Proto Iron

First Look: Tour Edge EXS Irons

Rounding out the EXS collection is a set of irons which club architect David Glod declares are “designed to be the longest distance iron in the game.” If early sales figures and internal testing results are any sort of harbinger, his bravado seems to be based more substance than hope.

Compared to standard iron sets with relatively traditional lofts, Tour Edge says golfers can expect to gain “8-10 yards on the long irons and 5-8 yards on short irons.” For golfers in the target demographic (20 HC and under), distance is still king, though a comparatively friendlier price point ($100 per club in steel) is likely as much of a magnet as Tour Edge tries to obtain valuable market share from industry stalwarts like Callaway and TaylorMade.

tour edge prototype irons

PARTICULARS:

The EXS iron set features a hollow-body design in the 4-8 irons and an under-cut cavity chassis from 9-iron through sand wedge. Like other OEMs playing in the new Forged Distance category, Tour Edge engineers leverage open space in the club head to increase and improve specific measurables, such as MOI (forgiveness), ball speed, and the launch/spin relationship.

Each technological element of the EXS irons aids in an effort to give players more distance. The Forged Cup face is the thinnest ever used by Tour Edge and its spider-web-like VFT (variable face thickness) pattern works to expand the sweet spot in all directions from the geometric center of the clubface. Simply, a thinner face has more flex– making it hotter . VFT technology increases ball speed on off-center strikes with the spider-web pattern working to extend the sweet spot further toward the perimeter of the club.

tour edge prototype irons

Tour Edge is far from the only OEM with a hollow-bodied  forged distance  iron. What’s slightly different is how Tour Edge fills (or in this case doesn’t fill) the void. Some OEMs with similar offerings pump fancy plastics or materials into the cavity to both support a thin, responsive face. Tour Edge utilizes LaunchPad technology – a TPE polymer coated with a performance gel, which absorbs shock and increases face flex. While this  technology  doesn’t fill the entire cavity, it does use the cavity badging as a point of adhesion, which if nothing else is a point of distinction when comparing like technologies within the forged distance category.

Additionally, Tour Edge shifted 19 grams of tungsten to the toe of the club to better align the geometric and physical centers of gravity. It also increases perimeter weighting, thereby expanding the sweet area toward the toe.

Are the lofts jacked? With a pitching-wedge at 42°, you bet the EXS are strong-lofted, and unapologetically so. Static loft, however, is only part of the conversation. The more holistic approach is to understand how less loft can create more distance without sacrificing the ability to hold greens (decent angle).

As a line, Tour Edge EXS targets the discerning golfer on a budget. The likely consumer is one who demands maximum value but also cares about aesthetics and playing equipment with all the modern technology. It’s a bit like getting brand new technology at prices closer to close-out models from the previous year.

I used to care about “loft jacking” but I don’t anymore. I care about performance. Can I hit the 105 yard club(whatever number it is) straight with enough height and spin to keep it from rolling off the green? Can I hit the 150 yard club close to 150 even if I don’t hit it EXACTLY in the center of the clubface?(like I had to when I was playing my Mizuno MP60’s) Do I have even, predictable gaps between each club. Lofts, numbers on the club, etc. don’t matter; the score matters.

Shane Jones

Chris if the PW is 42° the AW is 46° the GW is 51° and SW is 56°, are the rest of the irons kind of in the Rogue X irons area?

What is about game improvement clubs that makes them less workable. The only thing that shapes a ball is path and face. What is it about GI and SGI clubs that stops you altering the path and face on purpose.

Not entirely true. Dynamic loft and impact position (along with mass properties like CG) also play a role in how “workable” any club might be.

Workability means being able to a.) control trajectory and b.) control curvature and c.) control distance.

Trajectory control becomes more difficult when weight is positioned low in the irons. It is almost impossible to flight a game improvement club low enough for a good player.

Curvature control becomes difficult when weight is positioned low, or when there is too much offset. Higher launch angles can override the intentional sidespin a good player is trying to produce. Too much offset makes it nearly impossible for a good player to hit a fade, and way too easy to hit draws and hooks.

Distance control becomes difficult when you have a flexible face in distance irons, and also when you can’t control trajectory (i.e. can’t hit it low). See point one above. If you can’t control trajectory, you really can’t control distance, especially in the wind. However, a high MOI club without a flexible face can actually improve distance control in a no-wind environment because distance on off center hits will be more consistent.

Any club can still be “worked”, but the adjustments needed to setup and swing with a game improvement club are much greater.

If they keep this up (loft jacking ) I’m gonna have 6 wedges, 3 irons , 2 hybrids and 2 woods in my bag. I need my PW to go about 115 yards and straight. Jacking loft is completely unnecessary for that end. NOBODY needs more height on a pitching wedge. MY 60 year old MUM can hold a green with a players iron With 47 degree loft. She just needs it to go straighter and have a more forgiving sole. Decreasing the lofts serves ABSOLUTELY NO PURPOSE to that end.

Now I don’t care if they call a 9i a pitching wedge but that means the 4iron shouldn’t even exist. Set should be GW,PW,9,8,7 iron with 6 in option. All with 4 degree gaps .then we can talk about it.

We can change loft of any irons can change EXS loft to keep 4 degree gap they will do it free….mean from 4 or 7 you keep 4 degree gap to SW….easy!!

One Day At A Time

When a ball launches very high, deloft the club as a default. I’m curious why so many critics read these stories and make the same complaints each time.

Only because strengthening the static loft of any given club reduces spin, sometimes to absurdly low levels, and also makes it more difficult for the average golfer to hit the club compared to a more “traditionally” lofted one (D-plane).

Yes, the increased launch from the lower center of gravity of these irons can partially or mostly offset this as long as the golfer has enough SPEED to obtain that extra height and increased landing angle. That isn’t always the case though, and in some cases weaker lofts will produce greater distances for golfers as they don’t have enough swing speed to produce optimal launch conditions with the stronger irons or woods. This is also why many golfers can hit their 3 wood as far or further (and more accurately) than their driver.

Another problem with such strong lofts is that a 42° pitching wedge leaves a huge gap between the PW and SW. But, if these clubs really DO work for a particular golfer’s game – and its not just for an ego boost to say they hit two clubs less than their buddy on the same shot – then carry on.

Jack Wullkotte

I can’t believe someone has the gall to call an iron with 42 degrees loft, a pitching wedge. That is 10 degrees stronger than the pitching wedge Jack Nicklaus used for his whole career. His pitching wedge was 52 degrees, and his sand iron was 58 degrees. The rest of Jack’s irons were as follows. #1- 14 degrees, #2- 19 degrees, #3- 22 degrees, #4- 26 degrees, #5- 30 degrees, #6- 34 degrees, #7- 38 degrees, #8- 42 degrees, #9- 46 degrees. If David Glod’s pitching wedge is 42 degrees, then the degrees of loft on the remainder of the irons would be as follows. #1- 6 degrees, #2- 11 degrees, #3- 14 degrees, #4- 18 degrees, #5- 22 degrees, #6- 26 degrees, #7- 30 degrees, #8- 34 degrees, #9- 38 degrees and the Sand Iron, 50 degrees. As you can see, his clubs are essentially 2 clubs stronger than Jack’s. Who’s bullshitting who?”

To what end do consumers care about the number stamped on the club? I’m sure there’s a play toward the male ego somewhere in here, but to its credit, Tour Edge is putting the information right in front of everyone to see. What Jack played has little, if any, bearing on club design and use in 2018, so the comparison is perhaps interesting, but otherwise relatively useless.

My comparison may be useless, but how many Tour Edge EXS owners will win 18 major golf tournaments? Furthermore, how many Tour players will be using them?

When Jack comes back out, let’s worry about what Jack hits. Who cares what it is stamped. I am playing the EXS Wood in 13 and 15 degrees (or should I call that a 2 wood?). The woods are hot, with exceptional feel. I am looking forward to trying the EXS irons and may try their 7 iron sampler. I am a former 5hcp, playing in the mid 9s, and as i near 60, I am looking for distance control and direction for my more, and more, imperfect hits, with less, and less, power.

As far as who is using on Tour? Until this past year, I don’t think they ever sponsored anyone, so the price used to make up for Nike’s $90million Tiger contract, is put into design and materials.

Not all of my clubs are Exotics….Yet!

Take this to the bank…3 year old 4 – PW Pings $200 in value…3 year old 4 – PW Tour Edge…Lucky to get $50 in value….and they play just as good……

It’s never made sense to me why anyone would factor in resale value when purchasing equipment unless we’re talking collectible market type equipment. Resale value has nothing to do with performance, which is where consumers should be focusing time/energy when determining which equipment is best for them.

uhm cause people like to buy new clubs every year every other year and that becomes impossible for some if you buy something that devalues so much. like buying chrysler new……

Don’t underestimate these iron’s. Tour pro’s would use them if Tour Edge would pay them million’s if $ but they don’t, hence the cost saving’s. The Tour Edge CB 2 -3-5-7 fairway wood’s Are the best ever. These are terrific iron’s for twice the money. I have the EXI iron’s. I haven’t hit a better iron.

Johnny, do you still feel the same way about these irions? I’m interested in them.

THOMAS CRISAN

Wow what great engineers – sure took a lot of engineering design input -Trial & Error, and testing. Back in the fifty’s & sixty’s this how the Janeese engineers worked -and today the Chinese engineers JUST COPY WESTERN DESIGN. Cut selling price a) Not eye pleasing b) Nothing new b.1) Hollow, speed cut under channels b.2) Jack lofts

I’ve often felt the discussion of jacked lofts is the “6 of one and half dozen of another “ argument. We all want to hit greens and preferably close enough to 2-putt and occasionally a birdie. Does it matter if you can get there with a wedge but I need 8-iron? Well agreed a wedge is usually easier to hit in theory but truth is many of us are hitting it close with longer clubs. I am. I know this is an outlier but my last round I birdied 3 of the 4 par-3’s one of which was a “2-iron” to 190 inside 6’. Now that was a rare day. My swingspeed at age 71 is much slower than it was but ironically my dispersion is much tighter. Perhaps that is logical because the ball isn’t traveling as far and a miss isn’t going an additional 20 yards left or right but my scoring is actually coming down as my miss’s are less and less. Crazy huh? I know the new tech today with clubs and especially balls certainly is a huge part of straighter shots. I remember hooking wedges that missed greens from 130 that I now hit 8-irons stiff. Yay golf!

Aesthetics aside, with a 42deg PW, how the heck do you fill the gap between that and a SW?

46, 50, 54, 58…….I also carry a 62. 16.5 degree hybrid to driver at the top of the bag. Prefer more options around the green. If my GIR% ever gets to what I’d like revisit it then.

Tour Edge does offer matching EXS wedges in several lofts 46 degrees and up to help players find appropriate gapping.

Jonathan Hughes

It isn’t a good looking iron. I think they need to calm the future feel to the irons. Market share has seen a classic look come back. Rightly so.

I think this looks very much like a Benross iron.

I still play the EX-1s, which are long, forgiving, and they still look relatively good. Exotics are a great product. I also game the CB2 3w which will always be in the bag, barring breakage. I am sure these fall right into line.

OK, these aren’t aimed at this demographic. It’s for people who want approachable clubs that might give them a leg up. They aren’t VAS ugly, they are decent looking clubs that are likely the right club for people newer to the game or seniors who want easy to hit stronger lofts. I like what Tour Edge does, I’ve had drivers and woods/hybrids of theirs and currently bag the CB Pro F2 which is the best 3 wood I’ve hit in years. I actually look forward to hitting my 3 wood again. Point is, at $699-$799, they are likely a performing good value club.

Tour Edge's Hot Launch 523 irons and wedges: What you need to know

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge C523 irons.jpg

What you need to know: Tour Edge’s Hot Launch C523 irons and Hot Launch VIBRCOR SuperSpin wedges are designed for golfers who prefer a more classic cavity-back design. The Hot Launch E523 irons and wedges provide plenty of help for the golfer by focusing on ease of getting the ball up in the air or, in the case of the wedges, out of the sand.

Price/Availability: The Hot Launch C523 irons cost $80 per iron while the E523 irons go for $100 per stick. Both wedges cost $90 each. The clubs will be in stores on Nov. 1.

The deep dive: The seventh version of Tour Edge’s Hot Launch series, the C523 and E523 irons (along with two new wedge offerings), are, simply put, clubs designed to make you play better whether it’s delivering clubs to optimize your skills or ones to help mitigate your flaws.

The 431 stainless-steel C523 cavity-back irons and E523 hollow-body hybrid irons offer help in different ways, yet both boast wide soles that lower the center of gravity for higher launch and enough offset to help slicers with shots that tend to go wayward too much.

While generally a more traditional cavity-back design, the C523’s wide sole smooths heavier hits while the 360-degree undercut in the cavity works with extra mass in the toe to enhance moment of inertia for better performance on off-center strikes.

The C523 incorporates a more compact design, thinner topline and sharper high toe than its predecessor. The changes help remove weight from the top line to help lower the CG, thus fostering a higher launch.

The company also continued down the path of using its VIBRCOR high-grade thermoplastic urethane to enhance feel and promote a pleasing sound. First employed in its 522 line of irons, the TPU is placed in the deep undercut pocket to boost perimeter weighting for forgiveness while bolstering speed and enhancing feel. In the 523, even more of the TPU is used to enhance those attributes.

“The VIBRCOR kind of fills the whole cavity, almost making it look like it could be a hollow iron,” said Matt Neeley, Tour Edge’s vice president of product development. “It kind of covers and hides the undercut. Having that thick pad behind face center really helps us from a sound and feel standpoint. It's a nice sounding and performing iron regardless of the price point.”

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge Hot Laucnh E523 irons.jpg

On the Hot Launch E523 irons, the sole underwent a bit of an overhaul. Although the E522 irons took an aggressive approach to turf interaction by using the company’s “Houdini sole” employed in some of its fairway woods and hybrids to effectively cut through the ground, the protruding heel of the sole was a turn off to some players. As such, Tour Edge pivoted.

“One of the biggest changes is that we pulled the heel and toe of the Houdini sole up,” said Neeley. “Still, we have a lot of weight down there to help get through the turf and get the ball up. We just felt the previous sole might be a bit too extreme for some and by making some adjustments we could make it less noticeable without changing the playing characteristic very much.”

In order to offer more help than the C523, the E523 uses a shallow face height to encourage higher launch while the hollow-body design takes that a step further by placing weight low. The offset design helps counter the slice to some degree, as well. The lofts also are a little weaker than other Tour Edge irons as this player needs more help getting the ball in the air compared to any extra yards that might come from stronger lofts.

The hidden hero, however, is the new back badge. Or more precisely, the removal of it. Now a cap sits over a hollow area filled at the bottom with TPU material (according to Neeley, it is not needed up high) to help dampen the sound, while providing another benefit along with a cleaner look.

“Using the material inside the head made up for not having that super large badge,” said Neeley. “This iron sounds and feels as good as last year’s if not better. The big benefit, however, was that by removing that badge and replacing it with just this little cap, we saved about 8 or 9 grams of weight that we were then able to redistribute low and deep in the head which added about half a degree of launch.”

The shafts also are targeted at helping slower swingers with the super-light UST Mamiya HL-SST graphite shafts that range from 45 to 60 grams depending on the flex a stock offering. The irons also are available in a True Temper’s lightweight XP-85 steel shaft.

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge Hot Launch VIBRCOR wedge.jpg

The Hot Launch irons extend to E523 wedges. Also still featuring a wide, Houdini sole designed to make bunker escape a breeze, the sole has been slightly slimmed with more camber added to make it less of a strict one-trick pony type of club. The deep undercut in the cavity back design frees up the extra mass that's moved low to provide a higher launch while full-face grooves provide plenty of grab on shots around the green. There’s also a revamped Hot Launch SuperSpin VIBRCOR wedge with CNC milled grooves to provide enough grab and a cambered sole designed to prevent digging. A rear weight pad centralizes weight behind the top portion of the face to keep ball speed up on shots hit high on the face while also adding trajectory control through a slightly higher CG.

Meet tom bailey, owner of avoda golf, who made bryson dechambeau's 3d printed irons for 2024 masters, share this article.

tour edge prototype irons

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tom Bailey’s phone blew up on Thursday, and for good reason.

That’s because his little-known company, Avoda Golf, is having a week, to put it mildly. On Monday, a prototype set of his single-length irons made through 3D printing to the exacting specifications of Bryson DeChambeau were deemed conforming by the USGA and three days later the 2020 U.S. Open champion used them to shoot 65 at Augusta National Golf Club and take the lead after the first round of the 88 th playing of the Masters .

“Yeah, it’s been an interesting journey,” Bailey said.

Two years ago, the Englishman became intrigued with the concept of single-length clubs and reached out to Mike Schy, DeChambeau’s longtime coach and one of the most ardent supporters of single-length clubs for many years.

“I’ve been using same length clubs from Cobra for a couple of years and there were some things I wanted to explore in more detail. I figured who better to speak to than Mike,” Bailey said via phone on Thursday night. “I came to (the U.S.) for one month to meet Mike and two years later I’m still here.”

“He’s crazy like us,” said Schy of Bailey, who became one of his students at his tent, as he calls his golf academy, in Madera, California, at Dragonfly Golf Club.

Those conversations with Schy opened a whole new can of worms and before long Bailey began custom grinding his own golf clubs designed to his personal specs. He was doing things that mainstream equipment makers ignored.

2024 Masters

“It’s such a niche, they just they weren’t going in those places,” Bailey explained. “So I decided that I’ll do it myself and started a company up mid last year and built proto sets myself, caught a lot of traction very quickly with people wanting them as well. So I figured if I can sell a couple hundred sets a year, it would fund my golf. And we did that very, very quickly.”

Then Schy as he put it “threw him into the fire and suggested that he build a set for DeChambeau, “The Mad Scientist,” who is always seeking an edge via his equipment.

“Bryson jumped in and said, ‘Hey, let’s have a go making something’ because no one else at that point was doing it for him. And then last six months, it’s just been a bit of a blur dealing with that.”

That included the launch of a bespoke golf club company, which he named Avoda Golf, a Hebrew word that includes Hebrew lettering on the clubs.

“The actual logo itself is what translates to precision,” Bailey said. “So that’s the logo on the back of the club. And I wanted the brand name to align with that. So Avoda actually means work or worship or in service of God. Kind of aligns with my values. I thought it was a nice name for a brand. We went through hundreds of different names and nothing really clicked and we kind of got to that one. It’s nice.”

DeChambeau was spotted with an earlier iteration of Avoda irons on the range at the LIV Mayakoba event in Mexico in February, but the grooves of the stainless steel clubs produced by 3D printing were too narrow to meet USGA specifications. Why use 3D printing, which has been used for making some putters and other prototypes, but hasn’t been used for mass production of irons yet by OEM’s?

“For what we needed to achieve and the timeline we needed to do it, it was it was the best option to get going with,” Bailey said. “The 3D printing process does bring up a couple of limitations on some accuracy with a few things. I mean, we’re talking to within .001 of the of an inch in accuracy. It’s just like little like almost wiggles to the size of the grooves, the walls inside the groove weren’t perfectly smooth. And that’s the part where we had some issues on because obviously the 3D printing process layers as it builds, instead of just kind of being cut or even molded. So that brings up his limitations on being able to polish inside it. Luckily, we got that sorted. I know his manager (Connor) put in a lot of work over a few days to get that right.”

A unique characteristic of the irons is the bulge or curvature to the irons that DeChambeau requested.

“It’s something that he did bring to us. And we want that to be kind of his thing that he gets to talk about,” Bailey said. “We’re going to let him talk about it when he’s ready to and also not to disrupt him during the weekend.”

Asked at what point did he think DeChambeau was going to put the Avoda prototype clubs he designed into play at the Masters, Bailey said, “Thursday morning.”

He laughed. It was that down to the wire. Only DeChambeau would put a one-off set of irons that weren’t approved by the USGA until Monday into his bag at one of the four majors.

“You know us,” Schy said. “We wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Added Bailey: “Bryson believed that they were at a point where they were ready to go. I believe there’s still more we’re going to be doing with fine tuning. But as far as the real product goes, it’s pretty close.”

Continued success for DeChambeau could keep Bailey’s phone ringing off the hook and lead to orders for his boutique clubs (available models online are priced at $1,200) that he can’t possibly fulfill.

“It’s a pretty cool opportunity, that’s for sure,” Bailey said.

PING Blueprint S Irons

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons are strong game improvement irons with good forgiveness.  The Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 irons take consistency to the extreme, almost daring you to try to get a bad result.

tour edge prototype irons

Introduction

Last year, Drew examined the Hot Launch C523 and E523 irons [review HERE ] and found them worthy of Tour Edge’s slogan, “Golf’s Most Solid Investment.”  New for 2024 are the aptly named Hot Launch C524 and E524 irons.  While the name and the look have changed, the mission is the same: delivering high performance clubs at a price that’s about half what you’ll pay from other OEMs.

tour edge prototype irons

The “C” in Tour Edge Hot Launch C524  stands for “Competition.”  That means this is the set designed for more skilled players, at least compared to the E524.  At address, this iron set features a very thick, boxy top line and a significant amount of offset.  The blade length is about average, but the overall impression is that this is a big club meant to forgive mishits.

tour edge prototype irons

“E” in Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 irons stands for “Extreme Spec,” referring to extreme performance and forgiveness.  This focus on forgiveness is immediately obvious from the Iron-Wood design.  These are very big irons with huge, rounded faces which should fill golfers with confidence.  There is a great deal of offset in these irons, and the back of the club protrudes from behind the thick top lines.

tour edge prototype irons

Comparing the 7 irons side-by-side, you can see that the C524 (left) actually has a slightly thicker top line, but it doesn’t have any “extra” behind it.  Both irons have similar offset .  The leading edge of the E524 is more rounded – a subtle difference that, to my eye, helps to make the face look larger.

tour edge prototype irons

Sound & Feel

I started my testing with the Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 irons and was shocked by the sound and feel .  Given the hollow body design, I was expecting a loud, hollow sound and a feel that was quick and explosive.  Instead, I got a surprisingly soft, solid feel and a quiet impact sound that’s closer to a “thud” than the “pop” I was expecting.  The sound did get louder as I worked into the long irons, but the feel remained solid.

tour edge prototype irons

Having had my expectations rewired by the E524, the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons had a high bar to clear.  Thankfully, they delivered the same traditional impact sensations as their larger brother.  The feel is more solid and soft than quick or explosive, and the sound is quiet throughout the set.

Both sets also share the desire to make you feel good about every swing .  While you can feel the impact location through your hands, the sound of impact doesn’t change dramatically from flush shots to mishits.  Additionally, mishits don’t sting – the character of the feel is very similar across the face.

tour edge prototype irons

Performance

I tested these two iron sets in parallel to evaluate their similarities and differences.  I’ll dive into the specifics, but my overall takeaway is that Tour Edge did a great job creating two sets that are highly forgiving while also being clearly differentiated .

tour edge prototype irons

Starting with the wedges, I noticed immediately that the Tour Edge Hot Launch E524 irons spin quite a bit.  This was a pleasant surprise as I expected this set to be all about distance.  When I looked at the specs, I saw that the lofts are strong but not near the “cutting edge” of strong lofts.  The E524 irons put more emphasis on consistency rather than raw distance.

tour edge prototype irons

Switching to the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons, I saw slightly lower launch and spin , but both were still higher than expected.  The pitching wedge is one degree weaker in the C524 – 44 degrees – which is bordering on weak by today’s standards.  Again, this points to a focus on consistency and forgiveness.  Every shot I hit with this wedge went straight and carried a similar distance.

tour edge prototype irons

Moving into the mid irons, the extreme forgiveness of the E524 irons really started to show.  I had a series of three shots that were flush, low heel, and on the toe, yet each one landed within a couple yards of the others.  The launch angles were extremely consistent, even when the contact wasn’t.  The mid irons is also where this set’s draw bias really started to show, pulling most shots to the left of the center line.  This anti-slice tendency will be a boon for most high handicap players.

tour edge prototype irons

Changing back to the Hot Launch C524 irons, the launch and spin were lower despite the weaker lofts.  The lofts on the C524 irons are three degrees weaker from 4I-8I, but this difference is balanced by the Iron-Wood design of the E524.  For me, the C524 irons were slightly longer , but the forgiveness was still very good.  My notes state, “Impact location barely matters,” reflecting the consistency of the ball speed and carry distances.

tour edge prototype irons

The two sets showed the most difference in the longest irons.  The E524 4I is one of the easiest-to-launch long irons I’ve ever hit .  In contrast, I found the C524 to launch lower, and it required more effort.  Looking at the big picture, the C524 4I is still fairly easy to hit, but it’s nowhere near the E524.

tour edge prototype irons

Overall, both the Hot Launch C524 irons and the Hot Launch E524 irons are forgiving and consistent , but the E524 takes it to a much higher level.  The E524 irons are in the “You need to try to get a bad result” class.  Players with more speed may find more distance in the C524.  As always, getting a fitting is the only sure way to find the set up that will maximize your abilities.

tour edge prototype irons

The Tour Edge Hot Launch family continues to be a champion for golfers seeking the most bang for their buck.  In the Hot Launch C524 irons, players will find a set that’s forgiving and consistent without fully abandoning a traditional look.  Those that want extreme forgiveness and maximum fun should look to the Hot Launch E524 irons.

The entire 524 lineup intrigues me this year. Will you be reviewing the fairways too at some point? I saw the C524 fairway and nearly bought it immediately. based on looks alone.

' src=

Yes, we are reviewing the entire line.

' src=

Matt, are the specs reversed? Your comments on the E524 4I say 20 degrees but chart says 23 degrees.

Thank you for the note. The specs are correct, I made an error (now corrected) in my text.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 Iron Review

I had never struck a Tour Edge golf club before the Hot Launch C524 Irons arrived on my doorstep, so I was keen to see if they could perform as well as some of the best irons on the market for a fraction of the price.

Retailing for just $79.99/£65.00 per iron, the price tag certainly caught my eye as many irons in this category sell for far more than double that price. On first inspection out of the box, there were no signs of why that may be from an aesthetic point of view. Each iron was beautifully finished and looked great when I put them down in the playing position. A generous blade length and ample offset let me know that these were irons designed with playability in mind, but overall the dimensions and proportions were excellent and framed the ball nicely.

From a shelf appeal point of view, it is a case of nearly but not quite for me. I am generally someone who appreciates a minimalist approach to looks when it comes to golf equipment and the C524 irons are just a touch fussy for my tastes from the back. I don’t mind a subtle accent color but the bright blue badge just wasn’t for me, although that is just personal preference and some players may love it. I just feel that leaving that black or grey would have given the iron a slightly more premium look and feel.

In terms of the tech, there is quite a lot going on. At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that these were a hollow-body construction iron as there is no visual cavity, however, this is somewhat of an optical illusion. The cavity has simply been filled with Tour Edge’s VIBRCOR, which is a high-grade TPU designed to improve sound and feel.

Additional toe weighting has been added to the set with the intention of stabilizing impact and providing additional ball speed on off-center strikes.

I tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons at Saunton Golf Club , using my FullSwing KIT launch monitor and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls, both on the practice ground and out on the course.

Before I get into the launch monitor data, I wanted to give a special mention to the feel attributes of these irons. Impact provided a pleasant lively sensation but there was also a real depth to the strike that isn’t always present in the game-improvement iron category. For me, the Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal is still the gold standard in terms of feel in this genre, but quite honestly, when coupled with some excellent turf interaction, the C524 iron is not a million miles behind.

Launch monitor data was pretty strong across the board, with ball speed and distance competitive with just about anything else. With the 7-iron coming in at 29˚ it sits within the higher end of its peers loft-wise but still managed to produce a ball speed of 129.3mph for me with a mid-low launch and spin of 15.5˚ and 5412rpm respectively, which culminated in a healthy carry number of 188 yards.

I did notice a slight right tendency in flight compared to some other game improvement irons which tend to feature more of a draw bias if anything, and I wonder whether that has anything to do with the additional toe weighting. It wasn't too severe, however, just something to note.

The Hot Launch C524 irons come with a stock steel option of the True Temper Elevate MPH95 shaft in R or S flex, and there are more weight and flex options with the Aldila Ascent PL stock graphite option. There are also three sizes of Lamkin grips to choose from.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and feel of the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons, and when you factor in the price tag, I think there is some exceptional value for money to be had. In terms of raw performance data, I would feel comfortable putting them up against anything else in the game improvement category and be very confident they would hold their own.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 Irons

Description.

Custom is no longer available for this product

Hot Launch C523 irons combine maximum distance and forgiveness in a traditional cavity back design. The C523 Irons are made from extremely soft 431 stainless steel, providing superior feel and performance.

VIBRCOR Technology – C523 irons feature even more VIBRCOR technology! VIBRCOR is a high-grade TPU strategically placed in the deep undercut pocket to create a new speed-inducing and feel-enhancing internal technology. VIBRCOR creates a distinct feel of the clubhead at impact that dampens sound and shock, while also creating perimeter weighting around the entire clubhead for maximum forgiveness and power and ball speed enhancement off the face.

Compact Design with Sharper High Toe - A new shape for the C523 Iron features a more compact design, a thinner topline and a sharper high toe that promotes myriad game-improvement benefits in a classic iron. The more compact design of the C523 Iron has removed weight from the top line to create an ultra-low CG. The ultra-low CG placement promotes a high launch, stability at impact and added forgiveness on off-center hits.

Wide Sole / Deep Undercut Design - The wide sole of the C523 Iron and its deep 360-degree undercut cavity is optimized for playability, turf interaction and ease of launch. The wider sole of the C523 offers superior bounce and increases launch for cleaner, high-flying shots. The wider sole design leads to cleaner turf interaction for more consistent shot making. The 360° undercut cavity creates more face flexing and faster ball speed across the entire face.

Toe Weighted Design - Advanced toe weighting has been strategically increased and made more visible in the new C523 Iron design. This added toe weighting maximizes stability on impact and provides better off-center hit distance from the face of the iron and elongates the sweet spot and creates a pure feel off the face of the irons.

Power Lofted Setup - The lower and deeper CG allowed the C523 irons to be power lofted to create an extreme distance iron. Power lofting in this forgiving iron design promotes both distance & optimized height that achieves maximum distance without sacrificing the peak apex trajectory.

Ultra-Light Premium Shafts - The C523 Iron comes stock with the super-light UST Mamiya HL-SST graphite shaft by that range from 45 to 60 grams depending on the flex. It is also available in a True Temper XP-85 steel shaft.

The UST Mamiya HL-SST shafts feature Stabilized Shaft Tech, a softer tip and a mid-range flex. Stabilized Shaft Tech is an added cross weave that reduces ovaling for better stability during the loading and unloading of the shaft.

The True Temper XP-85 steel shaft is designed to deliver maximum peak trajectory for explosive distance and are an excellent option for players wanting a higher ball flight with a moderate ball spin.

The c523 irons feature vibrcor technology to deliver incredible feel and power

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

tour edge prototype irons

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

In total, the contract between Elemash Magnit LLC (an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in Elektrostal, Moscow region) and Red Wind B.V. (a joint venture of NovaWind JSC and the Dutch company Lagerwey) foresees manufacturing and supply over 200 sets of magnets. One set is designed to produce one power generator.

“The project includes gradual localization of magnets manufacturing in Russia, decreasing dependence on imports. We consider production of magnets as a promising sector for TVEL’s metallurgical business development. In this regard, our company does have the relevant research and technological expertise for creation of Russia’s first large-scale full cycle production of permanent rare-earth magnets,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

“NovaWind, as the nuclear industry integrator for wind power projects, not only made-up an efficient supply chain, but also contributed to the development of inter-divisional cooperation and new expertise of Rosatom enterprises. TVEL has mastered a unique technology for the production of magnets for wind turbine generators. These technologies will be undoubtedly in demand in other areas as well,” noted Alexander Korchagin, Director General of NovaWind JSC.

For reference:

TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom incorporates enterprises for the fabrication of nuclear fuel, conversion and enrichment of uranium, production of gas centrifuges, as well as research and design organizations. It is the only supplier of nuclear fuel for Russian nuclear power plants.
