The afternoon is at your leisure to begin exploring Madrid. Your boutique hotel offers splendid views of Retiro Park, once a recreation area for the royal family, and is wonderfully situated near many important sights. You could take a short stroll to the park, one of Madrid’s largest green spaces. Then walk slightly further afield to the Cybeles Fountain, an impressive monument dedicated to the Roman goddess of nature. This spectacular fountain was created in 1782 and has become an emblematic symbol of Madrid.

What's Included:

Madrid - Sightseeing and Museum Visits in Madrid

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Madrid. Today you’ll have a chance to visit Madrid’s world-famous museums. This tour includes a Madrid Art ticket, which allows you entrance into all of Madrid’s museums. Take advantage of the hotel’s ideal proximity to the city’s two most impressive museums. You are within walking distance to the famous Museo del Prado and the noteworthy Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Art lovers will want to spend at least a few hours at the world-class Museo del Prado. At this exceptional museum, you’ll see the greatest works of Spanish masters Goya, Velázquez, and El Greco among others. In addition to the classic masterpieces, the Museo del Prado also boasts modern art’s most important antiwar piece: Picasso’s “Guernica” that depicts the atrocities of the 1937 Spanish Civil War. Those who appreciate contemporary art should visit the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. The collections begin with art created at the end of the 19th century and continue with art from the post-war period up to postmodernity exhibitions from the 1960s to the 1980s. You’ll definitely want to see the museum’s expansive exhibition of art work by Joan Miró, the most famous of Spanish contemporary artists.

Cordoba - Travel to Cordoba in Southern Spain

Today after breakfast, you’ll take the high-speed train to Cordoba in the Andalusia region. The journey to Cordoba takes less than two hours, yet you’ll feel much further away. With its narrow cobblestone lanes and antique street lamps, Cordoba takes you to another world in a bygone era. The city has a glorious past that dates back to the 10th century. Cordoba was the former capital city of Al Andalus, as the territory of the Muslim empire in Southern Spain was called during the period of Islamic rule. The centerpiece of Cordoba is the Mezquita, the grand mosque, which dominates the city’s maze of medieval streets. After you check into your hotel this afternoon, you will have a unique culinary experience; enjoy a tasting of local olive oils that are the basis of the region’s wonderful cuisine.

Cordoba - Visit Cordoba’s Mezquita; Travel to Seville in the Afternoon

This morning after breakfast you will visit Cordoba’s Mezquita, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it was later converted to a cathedral, the Mezquita is a triumphant example of Muslim architecture. This spectacular structure dating back to the 8th century is one of the biggest mosques in the world and the most important Islamic monument in Western Europe. Entrance tickets are included and you may take a self-guided tour. Cordoba has many beautiful corners for you to discover, and you may choose the option of having a private guide show you around the city. One fascinating area is the Juderia—the medieval Jewish quarter that surrounds the Mezquita. In this atmospheric neighborhood, whitewashed buildings flourish with potted plants and vibrant flowers. Narrow lanes lead to small courtyards, hidden architectural gems and ancient synagogues.

In the afternoon, you will board a high-speed train to Seville. The journey takes less than an hour. Today’s capital city of Andalusia, Sevilla is famous for its architectural beauty and vibrant lifestyle. Seville will give you a taste of quintessential Southern Spain—traditional festivals, convivial tapas tours, Flamenco dance, and bullfights are all part of the local culture.

Seville - Walking Tour and Leisure Time in Seville

Savor a generous breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Seville, one of the gems of Andalusia. This atmospheric city is a delight to explore! You’ll appreciate the lifestyle and culture as much as the history. In Seville, everyday life is theater played out in fashionable streets, stylish bars, and fine restaurants. Even the presentation of food is done with much flair. For instance there is a special art to cutting an Iberian Ham, one of the region’s specialties. On this tour, you’ll have a chance to see a demonstration of ham slicing and sample the delicacy.

Enjoy a guided walking tour through the old town. The two-and-a-half-hour tour takes you through Seville’s Barrio de Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, as well as to important monuments such as the cathedral. Your knowledgeable tour guide will share interesting insights into Seville’s most important sites and can give you the local’s perspective. Be sure to ask for recommendations about where to go for the best tapas. The afternoon is at your leisure to relax or continue sightseeing.

Tonight you’ll have the chance to visit an authentic “tablao Flamenco,” a traditional showroom for Flamenco dance. Intense and dramatic, Flamenco dance displays a feat of incredible technique, rhythm, and emotion. Flamenco owes its cultural heritage to the Andalucia Romani community, who created the quintessential Spanish art form of Flamenco. You can see this wonderful legacy of cultural heritage shine through in the performance. This is an evening that you will never forget!

Granada - Arrive in Granada and Visit the Alhambra Palace

This morning is at your leisure before you take the train from Seville to Granada. The perfect conclusion to your Andalusia tour, Granada was the center of the last Muslim kingdom in the 15th century. The Alhambra was a stronghold of Muslim power until the final Christian Reconquista (Reconquest) of Spain. In addition, Granada has always been a place of cultural diversity. For centuries Christians, Muslims, and Jews as well as the Roma community lived here in harmony. During your stay, you’ll have a chance to see two of Granada’s most interesting ethnic neighborhoods, for a fascinating look into the city’s cultural heritage.

After being transferred from the train station, you’ll check into your hotel. Enjoy the hotel’s delightful atmosphere, an oasis of relaxation in the center of Granada. This afternoon, you’ll have leisure time to begin exploring Granada. Be sure to visit Granada’s beautiful Renaissance cathedral and Capilla Real, the impressive Gothic chapel that is lavishly decorated. Tonight you’ll enjoy a special Andalusian dinner in a romantic setting. The Arabian-influenced meal includes a selection of tapas,  a tasting menu of typical Andalusian dishes and dessert. You may also order wine to accompany your meal for the complete dining experience.

Granada - Visit the Alhambra Palace and Evening Flamenco Performance

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up at your hotel for a visit to the Alhambra Palace, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site. The residential palace of the Nasrids Sultans, the Alhambra exemplifies the splendid civilization of the Moorish kingdom. Located in a spectacular setting surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Alhambra encompasses several royal palaces surrounded by verdant gardens. Your guided tour allows you to skip the tourist lines to enter the palace and takes you inside the Royal Palaces including the palace of Carlos V. You’ll be awestruck by the exquisite Moorish design and ornate details. After seeing the splendid interior, you’ll visit the Generalife Gardens. This lush garden provides a welcome shade on a sunny day. Wandering through the elaborate rows of flowers, greenery, and fountains, offers a wonderful sense of peacefulness. A symbol of Moorish richness, the garden’s complex water system was a feat of engineering when it was created in the 14th century.

After your tour of the Alhambra, you’ll have the afternoon at leisure. You may visit the Albaicín district, the old Arab quarter. This ancient Moorish settlement is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Soak up the atmosphere in this perfectly preserved medieval neighborhood. It’s a wonderful place to take a tour of the tapas bars or to stop for mint tea at a Moroccan tea house. Another fascinating neighborhood is the Sacromonte, Granada’s Romani quarter, built into a hillside that rises above the Albaicín. Wander around to get a taste of this unique and picturesque community. Amidst the humble cave dwellings, you’ll find many Flamenco caves where you can watch the performance at its best. Tonight you will discover the secrets of "tapas." Granada is one of only a few cities in Spain that still offers complimentary tapas worthy of culinary mention. Later in the evening, you’ll be treated to an authentic Flamenco show, the perfect way to conclude your tour of Spain.

Granada - Transfer from Granada to Madrid for Departure Flight

The tour concludes today after breakfast at your hotel. You’ll be provided a private transfer to the train station for your train ride from Granada to Madrid. Then you’ll receive a transfer to the Madrid airport for your return flight home.

Magic of Southern Spain: Seville, Cordoba, Granada & More

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Itinerary Details

FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Discover the magic of southern Spain in 10 days. Start in Madrid, then head south to Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Jerez and Cadiz. Cruise the Guadalquivir River, try authentic ‘tapas’ and wines and enjoy a flamenco show. Entrance to the big three - Royal Alcázar Seville, Cordoba Mosque, and the Alhambra, is included.

Magic of Southern Spain: Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, Granada

Let southern Spain fire the senses on this 10-day journey from Madrid, the country’s energetic capital, to beautiful Granada, home of the famous Alhambra palace complex.

Madrid is one of Europe’s most engaging and vivid capitals, alive with art, nightlife, and incredible architecture. Combine its history with one of the city’s great passions, tapas, on a 3.5-hour walking tour, and enjoy some time to explore on your own. You might visit the mighty Prado Museum, watch the locals at play in Retiro Park, or take a tour of the Royal Palace. Then board your train bound for Seville.

No city captures the spirit of Andalusia quite like Seville, defied by highlights such as the Plaza de Espana, San Telmo Palace, and the Royal Alcazar, which you’ll see on a day tour of the city. This also takes you through some of the most enchanting neighbourhoods including the Jewish quarter and Triana. Then take a day trip to Jerez, the home of sherry, and Cadiz, where you’ll have a chance to enjoy some of the famous fried fish for lunch.

Your next stop is Cordoba. Once an underappreciated day trip on Andalusia tours, more people are choosing to stay for a night or two, stepping beyond the iconic Mezquita mosque. Don’t worry, you’ll see it! But you’ll also get to see the beautiful Alcazar, and the Jewish quarter which gives Cordoba so much of its unique character. It’s also a smaller city than Seville, preserving a more relaxed pace of life, which you can discover with a free afternoon.

Your trip ends in Granada, famously home to the Alhambra and Generalife, Spain’s most recognizable palace and arguably the greatest palace complex in Europe. Enjoy a flamenco show on your first night here, then three hours at the Alhambra, giving you plenty of time to explore Granada’s more subtle charms before you depart.

  • f2b2016 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Interesting, visually spectacular. The tour guides were very good. One for Park Guell and another for Sagrada Familia. They both had to give the tour in English and German. This did make it a long process. They both had ample information about their respective tours. The only downside was the time between sights and sightseeing. Once the Park Guell tour finished we were taken by bus and walked to another tour office to wait for the Sagrada Familia tour to start. This took over hour. It was marketed as a single tour but in was two tours separate tours with a lot of waiting around. Read more Written April 20, 2024

  • A3B 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great service. Wherever we go we use the ‘Get your guide’ service to pre book tickets. This ‘Grayline’ service bus is great. Covers two routes and takes you to all the major attractions in Barcelona with a frequent and efficient service. We get the 48hr ticket which allows us to do the whole tour firstly then, use it to pick out our stops. Only criticism is the audio guide - earphones are supplied - great but, it can be hit or miss whether your seat terminal actually works. Don’t know if frustration causes it but, people have been throwing their earphones on the robes of any bus shelter they can? Piles of them. Don’t know how often they are removed. Either way, great service and recommended. Read more Written April 20, 2024
  • W9461VFjamesp 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Don't book - Tickets will not validate After we climbed the hill to get to the location to validate our tickets we were told that the tour company did not have access for the Park. Something has gone wrong in communication between the ticket provider and the Park Guell's administrators. We were very disappointed because we couldn't get access despite having paid the morning in advance. This seems to be a widespread problem because we encountered a group of 8 in front of us who were turned away the same way. Don't go! Not worth the risk and disappointment especially after the trek to get there. Read more Written April 20, 2024

Cordoba offers a powerful multi-cultural sampler. Founded by the Romans, Cordoba`s glory peaked under Moorish rule, who built the beautiful Grand Mosque, or `Mezquita`. The Christian rulers decided to leave it standing and built a cathedral in the midst of its rows of arches and columns. Cordoba's treasures also include the Alcazar, built by the Christians in 1328; the Calahorra Tower, originally built by the Arabs, which guards the Roman Bridge; and the ancient Jewish Synagogue, now a museum. Visit The Mezquita, Alcazar, the Roman Bridge, Calahorra Tower, Jewish Synagoque, Juderia (Jewish Quarter), Patios Cordobeses, Palacio de Viana, Medina Azahara, and more!

Seville is the largest town in the famous Southern province of Andalusia, best known for the impressive Cathedral with its Giralda tower, as well as the Alcazar, which also serves as a visiting residence for the Spanish Royal family. Seville seems to move at half the pace of a normal major city, creating a relaxing and even small-town atmosphere that complements the sevillano way of savoring every moment of life, bite of food and sip of drink. Don't forget your dancing shoes, because from the moment the sun goes down right up until it comes up again, the bars and clubs of Seville's nightlife are brimming with festive people, great music, lively conversation and unrivaled excitement. Visit Cathedral & Giralda, Royal Alcazar, Gold Tower, Barrio Santa Cruz, Archivo de las Indias, Maria Luisa Park, Triana, Fine Arts Museum, Flamenco and so much more.

Granada is a jewel standing at the foot of Spain's highest mountains, the Sierra Nevada. Like many others, this city bears the marks of Roman, Moorish, and Jewish influences. The universally famed Alhambra, a complex of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty, overlooks the city. Notably, Isabel and Ferdinand lie buried inside the city's Cathedral. The famed "mudéjar" style of architecture can be spotted in the Monastery of La Cartuja and many other churches built by Moorish craftsmen. Visit The Alhambra, Generalize, Albaycin, Sacromonte, Cathedral, and Royal Chapel

Barcelona , the old Roman Barcino, is Spain's second city, always on the biting edge of fashion, architecture, food, style, music and good times. Walk its narrow streets and wonderful plazas, or along the Ramblas, stretching from Plaza de Cataluna to the Harbor, encompassing the magic of the city: stalls full of books, birds and flowers. The city's most powerful monuments open a window onto its history: the intricately carved edifices that comprise the medieval Gothic Quarter; the curvilinear modernism (Catalan Art Nouveau) that inspired Gaudi's Sagrada Familia; and the seminal surrealist works of Picasso and Miró, found in museums that peg Barcelona as a crucial incubator for 20th-century art. The recent restoration of the port area began with the development of a harbor for the Olympic Games of 1992. New modern squares, designed by leading artists such as Miro and Barcelo have created a new style alongside Gaudi's modernist buildings. Now the city is ready to show every visitor how it has been transformed into one of the most moderns and active cities in Europe. Explore The Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum, La Rambla, Barri Gotic, Park Guell, modernist buildings, Montjuic Hill, Barceloneta and so much more!

We'll enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure before coming back together for a welcome cocktail, orientation, and dinner.

Day 2: Madrid

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Our morning features a guided tour of this splendid city. As we travel along Calle Gran Vía, Madrid’s equivalent to New York City’s Broadway, we'll marvel at the Opera district, Plaza de Colon, the monumental 18th-century Royal Palace (entrance included), Puerto del Sol Plaza and Plaza de España, Madrid’s main square, where we’ll see an imposing statue of Spain’s literary giant, Miguel de Cervantes. We'll end at the enormous, impressive Prado Museum, which holds one of the world’s top collections, including masterpieces by El Greco, Velázquez, and Goya. We'll also visit a local Iberian ham specialty shop to enjoy a jamón tapa and a drink. The balance of the day is at leisure. Consider doing what the Madrileños do. Take el paseo (stroll) to the delightful Retiro Park and then stop at one of Madrid’s excellent restaurants or tapas bars.

Day 3: Madrid – Seville

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Today we will take a high-speed train for Seville, the charming Moorish capital of Spain’s Andalusia Region. We'll drive to the Plaza de España, passing the elegant Maria Luisa Park. Tonight, enjoy a local Tapas dinner with drinks.

Day 4: Seville

tours from madrid to seville and granada

On an included guided walking tour, we’ll discover the passions of the city that create the backdrop for the great operas Carmen and Don Giovanni. Highlights include the Seville Cathedral, the biggest Gothic cathedral in the world, and landmark Giralda Bell Tower, the remaining part of the mosque built by the Moors. Our tour winds through the narrow streets and plazas of the well-preserved Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish Quarter, where we'll delight in the whitewashed buildings, quaint shops and colorful flowers. Enjoy some free time to enjoy lunch on your own or explore. This afternoon, we'll experience the beauty of Seville as seen from the only major navigable river in Spain, the Guadalquivir. We'll get a complete perspective of both riversides, confronting the old part of town with the most modern one. Tonight, consider catching a performance of the expressive dance form—flamenco! See optional excursions for details.

Day 5: Seville – Cordoba – Granada

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Today we'll visit Cordoba, one of Spain's cultural gems and home to some of the country's most impressive monuments. On our guided tour, we'll marvel at the Mezquita (Great Mosque) built in the 10th century during Cordona's glory days as the capital of Moorish Spain. The mosque was later converted to a cathedral, but the original architectural details are stunning. We'll also see the reconstructed Roman Bridge and the beautifully restored 14th-century synagogue that survived the expulsion of Spain's Jews. After our tour, we'll continue our journey to Granada, a former Moorish stronghold, stopping along the way at an Olive Oil Mill for a tasting. This evening, we'll enjoy dinner together at our hotel.

Day 6: Granada

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Today we'll visit Granada's crown jewel, the Alhambra. Sprawled over a hilltop overlooking the city, the awe-inspiring Alhambra is an impressive castle and fortress with its romantic Generalife gardens. Later today we'll have free time to explore the city and the mystic Albaicin Quarter.

Day 7: Granada – Valencia

tours from madrid to seville and granada

We're sure to be captivated by the rolling terrain and groves of olives, almonds, lemons, and oranges on our way to Valencia, a city of great culture and beautiful gardens on the Mediterranean coast. On our guided tour this afternoon, we'll see architecture both ancient (Roman, Arabic, and the gothic cathedral) and modern—or should we say futuristic? Renowned architect Santiago Calatrava designed the City of Arts and Science, an eye-popping “city within a city” that gives us a peek into what the future might look like.

Day 8: Valencia – Peñíscola – Barcelona

tours from madrid to seville and granada

The next leg of our journey through splendid Spain hugs the coastline of Catalonia. We'll stop at Peñíscola, a pearl of the Mediterranean. The old town—crowned by a 14th-century castle-fortress that was once the home of Pope Benedict XIII—stands on an imposing rock that rises 64 meters above the azure seas and is connected to the mainland by a thin sandbar that waves wash over during storms, turning the town into an ephemeral island. We'll enjoy a delightful paella lunch before continuing to Barcelona where we'll settle into our centrally located hotel.

Day 9: Barcelona

tours from madrid to seville and granada

The capital of Catalonia, Barcelona mixes medieval charm with avant-garde style. We'll join a local expert for a fascinating tour that begins at the old harbor with a drive along Barcelona’s iconic boulevard, Las Ramblas. We'll see the city’s lively heart, Plaza Catalunya, and picturesque Plaza de España. Of course, a Barcelona tour isn't complete without admiring buildings designed by the celebrated Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. We'll see one of his most famous works, the unfinished Sagrada Familia Basilica (admission included), which has been under construction since 1882! Before free time this afternoon, we will stop at a typical bodega in La Barceloneta Quarter to taste vermut, a typical and popular drink in Barcelona. The rest of the day is free to visit a museum or relax at an outdoor café independently.

Day 10: Barcelona

tours from madrid to seville and granada

Today you'll have a full day to explore vibrant Barcelona on your own. You can explore the enchanting Gothic Quarter and soak up its magical atmosphere of cafes, street musicians, and quaint shops. Seek out more of Gaudi’s masterpieces in the city center or stroll along Las Ramblas, stopping at the colorful Boqueria Market for freshly squeezed juice, a snack, or more tapas! We'll gather this evening for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
