The North of Mauritius

The beaches in the north of the island are located around the popular town of Grand Baie, which is a good choice if you’re visiting Mauritius for the first time. You can choose to stay in Grand Baie itself or La Cuvette, Pereybere, Bain Boeuf or Mont Choisy (Mont Choisy beach is gorgeous), all within a few minutes’ drive of each other.

The East of Mauritius

The east coast of Mauritius is known for its luxurious hotels and stunning Belle Mare region. If you’re looking for a golfing getaway, the Post de Flacq peninsula at the northern end of Belle Mare is the perfect spot thanks to Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club. To the peninsula’s south is Beau Champ, where you can enjoy water sports.

Southern Mauritius

The southern coast is for people who want to escape the crowds and enjoy true tranquillity. The towering cliffs make for a wonderfully dramatic backdrop − but they also help to create some great waves, making it ideal for surfing.

ALL-INCLUSIVE MAURITIUS PACKAGES

Guests at Mauricia Beachcomber, Canonnier Beachcomber and Victoria Beachcomber can purchase the Beachcomber All-Inclusive Package, which covers most meals and drinks for the duration of your stay.  Similarly, Shandrani Beachcomber offers the equivalent of Victoria Beachcomber’s package, named Serenity All-Inclusive Package. Shandrani Beachcomber guests are spoilt for choice and have a further option of upgrading to the new Serenity Plus Premium All-Inclusive Package for an even more luxurious holiday at this sought-after 4-star superior resort.

Packages are purchased in advance and rates apply to all adults and children travelling together for the entire stay. Packages are operational from arrival to departure, regardless of check-in/check-out times. Inclusions may vary by resort, so check the availability of the optional inclusions in order to get full value for money.

Mauricia and Canonnier – Beachcomber All-Inclusive Package

Packages are operational from arrival to departure, regardless of check-in/check-out times. Highlights include:

• Choice of restaurants for lunch
• Unlimited, selected house wine and drinks during lunch and dinner
• Unlimited, selected drinks from the bar lists between 09h00 and 23h00, including a selection of local beers, house wine, tea, coffee, soft drinks, cocktails and local spirits (drinks in the nightclub are not included)
• Baguettes at the bar between 10h00 and 16h00
• Picnic baskets
• Tea and coffee in rooms
• Mini bar (replenished once a day)
• Pancakes between 16h00 and 18h00

Serenity All-Inclusive Package:

• Lunch at a choice of three restaurants 
• Unlimited bottled wines and drinks, per selection, during lunch and dinner 
• Unlimited selected drinks from bar/s between 10h00 and 23h00, including a selection of imported alcohol brands, spirits, cocktails, beer, bottled wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee
• Snack menu at the Blue Bay Bar and baguettes menu at Sirius Bar between 11h00 and 17h00
• Pastry selection at the Blue Bay Bar between 16h00 and 18h00
• Beach and poolside service
• A picnic basket per day
• Selected minibar items – soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water and beer (replenished once a day).
• Free green fees to play the 9-hole pitch and putt golf course

Serenity Plus Premium All-Inclusive Package:

• Lunch at a choice of three restaurants
• A selection of unlimited imported wines, local and imported spirits, cocktails, a selection of local beers, tea, coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices and bottled water between 10h00 and 23h00
• Unlimited French champagne by the glass from 18h00 until 23h00
• Room service (tray charge is applicable)
• Free green fees to play the 9-hole pitch and putt golf course.
• And for guests staying seven nights or more, further luxuries include a 30-minute massage per adult, and for the whole family: A dinner with a menu featuring lobster at Le Boucanier seafood restaurant, a guided cycling excursion, a round of golf at the 18-hole championship golf course in the north, Mont Choisy (transfers are additional) and a sunset excursion by glass-bottom boat in the Blue Bay Marine Park

Trou aux Biches, Paradis and Dinarobin clients have the option of purchasing the Escape Package which offers superb value for adults and children alike.

Clients will be entitled to the Escape Package from the time of arrival until the time of departure, regardless of official check-in and check-out times.

• Two-course lunch daily at designated restaurant
• Choice of restaurants for dinner

Mauritius FAQ's

Mauritius, or officially known as the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 350 miles east of Madagascar. This nation forms part of the Mascarene Islands and is mainly based on the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. Mauritius is a beautiful island nation known for its sandy beaches, palm trees and turquoise waters. The island is renowned for having been the only recorded home of the now extinct dod but it has many other rare and endemic species of plants and animals.

Visitors to Mauritius are welcomed to the islands world-renowned beaches and further inland, the central plateau offers incredible views over the island. Water sports are typically the top on most visitors lists but Mauritius is also the home to world-class golf and the famous Champs-de-Mars horse races. Mauritius has so much to offer beyond just it`s beaches. A boat trip to Reunion Island is just one of the many sea adventures and those who enjoy hiking should consider visiting Tamarin Falls in the south-west of the island which is a collection of stunning waterfalls well worth the effort. Rare plants and birds can be found at Black River Gorges , the county`s only national park and a more formal example of tropical gardening can be found at the Pamplemouses Royal Botanical Gardens . On the tiny Ile aux Aigrettes , the giant tortoise, pink pigeon and Mauritius kestrel can be found. Mauritius has two UNESCO World Heritage sites both dedicated to the injustices of the past. In the extreme south-west, the Le Morne Cultural Landscape , featuring the huge Le Morne Brabant Monolith is a reminder that this rock and its almost inaccessible caves provided refuge for runaway slaves. Further up the coast at Port Louis`s Bay of Trou Fanfaron , stands the indentured labor camp of Aapravasi Ghat which was the reception point for all of the Indian laborers brought in to take the place of the slaves. In the south-west of Mauritius are the Chamarel plans . There is a small section of sand exposed to the air which has a spectacular variation of color. The different colors separate giving the dunes a striped appearance. Despite the area, experiencing tropical rainfall the dunes never seems to erode.

Mauritius enjoys a relatively mild climate. Although temperatures are rather moderate throughout the year with occasional rainfall, the most pleasant times to visit the island are between the months of April and June and between September and December. As Mauritius is located in the southern hemisphere, the summer and winter months are opposite to seasons in the United States.

The island has a distinct network of roads, with the three main ones being: -M3, which links Terre Rouge to Verdun in the North, passing through Port-Louis, the capital. -M2, which links Port Louis to the tourist village of Grand Baie, in the North of the island. -M1, which links the airport in the South East to Port Louis. This is the most important road on the island since it also passes through the largest cities of Curepipe, Vacoas, Quatre-Bornes, Phoenix, Beau-Bassin Rose Hill and Mika. The roads in Mauritius extend across an expanse of around 1,300 miles, with around 4% of it dedicated only to the motorways which fork out in smaller secondary roads. By Taxis: The easiest (and fastest) way to go around Mauritius is by car. If you stay in a villa in Mauritius, you can easily arrange a car and driver to take you around the island. Mauritian taxis do not come with meters, so the price is normally established by the driver. Be sure to ask for the price beforehand. It is also wise to avoid hotel taxis since these can be notoriously expensive. By Bus: The cheaper and primary mode of public transportation on the island is by bus. You will see several sheltered bus-stops on every road of the island. The transport schedule generally depends on the bus route, but in most cases, you can expect a bus to go by every 10 to 30 minutes. While there is no bus app in Mauritius, you can check www.mauritius-buses.com for schedules. However, the website is not entirely reliable, so locals often prefer to check the schedule directly with the station master. At some bus stops, the different bus routes and times can be found plastered on the wall. There are no bus passes in Mauritius, but tickets can run between 30 to 60 MUR. By Bicycle: In remote villages, locals also get around by bicycles. This is something you might want to do if you love enjoying Mauritius sceneries at your own pace. The majority of hotels do offer bicycle rentals on a daily or weekly basis. The bikes can range between 800 to 1500 MUR per day.

The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR) and currency exchange facilities are widely available including at the airport where ATM machines can offer this service. Occasionally some establishments such as hotels or restaurants may accept payment by foreign currency but this is the exception rather than the rule and Mauritian Rupees are almost always required.

English is the official language but rather bizarrely, few Mauritians are fluent in spoken English. Make some provisions for non-disabled elderly people who don't require assistance necessarily but would appreciate not having to walks long distances or stand for prolonged periods of time. For example: Seats close to boarding gates. Not being required to climb down and up stairs to board and deplane if in rows 17 upwards. Not being required to stand in long queues in boarding tunnels waiting to board. Priority fast track through security points to avoid long queues in departure halls.

For the first time ever we had a grumpy check in agent. I got told off for not having a lock on my bag and she looked seriously put out that we were checking in as a group of 7. Very unusual as I fly regularly with Safair and all the staff have always been super friendly.

Well emirates since after covid recovery their service became much poorer than before , old planes to some destinations, untrained staff , rude , inflexible, and poor food, this specific flight the plane felt like in the 90s , and staff behavior was rude due to usual incidents in these flights for some destinations, i understand this but they pit everyone at the same basket, a readiness to be rude anytime

I upgraded to first which was great and overall was a good experience. However, the service was a slight let down this time compared to what I would have expected from Emirates First. I ordered my meals and made a point to order the wine I wanted to have with the main course. The main course somehow came before my starter and I decided not to make a fuss of it and just asked for the wine so that I can enjoy it with the steak. It took quite a few minutes before the wrong wine came which I pointed out. At this point I decided to start eating as medium rare steak (the way I like it) was going to get cold . Few minutes later, a different crew came with the same incorrect wine and I had to send it back and waited another few minutes. Both crew came together few minutes later finally with the correct wine. By then I was more than half way through my steak which is rather unfortunate because the steak was good and and wine was good. Would have been perfect to enjoy them together . They were apologetic and when I mentioned that she had forgotten about my starter, she apologised and insisted that she will make it for me even if it’s just to try. They were nice about it all but so many mistakes for a rare experience in First was disappointing and this flight was paid for not miles redemption, even the upgrade.

The flight SA227 on 2nd March Sao Paulo to Cape Town was delayed by 3 hours. All other flights leaving Sao Paulo left on time. We were told that we were waiting for push back and a routing from Air traffic control. I don't believe this, what was the real reason for the flight delay?

I think more immigration officers at Or Tambo- I spent 90 mins in a queue before I can assisted and most people missed their appointments and meetings

Not sure it was a basic airline so nothing much to like but what was annoying was they delayed so much we missed our connecting flight and we had to almost fight to be out on the next flight and also even get food

Paid an extra USD 100 for so-called Comfort seats. All of these (the bulkhead seats) had parents with babies and infants who were screaming much of the time. One mother even decided to change nappies on the seat. This was anything but comfort!

Flight was delayed for 9 hours. We finally arrived ved at 0435hrs instead of 1950hrs the previous day. No compensation was provided.

On a long flight us customers need more rehydration by the crew. Some of us have water bottles but no crew is coming around to offer water. I’m not saying issue us all with plastic water bottles.

My flight from Nairobi to nyc. My seat made noise and moved around. The two toilets in the back didn’t work well cause you didn’t know if someone was in there cause the light didn’t work. The bathroom doors didn’t lock well either, so I walked in on someone. The crew wasn’t quick or super helpful. When I went to get something they were chatting and they would look at me, continue on with their conversation and finally I would interrupt to get a drink.

The flight attendants on this flight were incredible! One even gave me her own dinner when my special meal order wasn’t transferred due to a flight delay! She insisted and I was so grateful. That is going above and beyond! The issue I had with the flight was with Lufthansa support. I missed my connection due to a flight delay and they wouldn’t rebook online, only in person. This took a lot of time and visits to the airport waiting for a Lufthansa agent to arrive 5 hours later than posted and almost paying full-fare price for the new flights and refusal to add my special meal orders. It made for a challenging journey home and I didn’t feel valued as a customer.

The flight never took off. We sat on the tarmac for over two hours due to an electrical fault and finally the flight was cancelled. We were told that hotels would be organised but there was no further communication. In the end I retrieved my baggage and went to the car park to pick up my car and drive home. It cost me over £150 to park the car for two weeks, plus of course petrol, and over £600 for the four flights and £50 for the travel visa. All gone up in my smoke. I’m bitterly disappointed that my business Trip was cancelled and have been told I will get a “partial refund” within three months!!! What a way to treat a customer.

I enjoyed the courtesy of the staff, and their professionalism. The food was pretty good and they took great care of us throughout the trip!

Is a terrible airline. The seats are tiny, staff are lazy and rude. Everything is a mission for them and they always take forever. Check in and passport control is enough to turn you off Mauritius all together. Let alone the airline. Mauritius is gorgeous and a must visit if you could avoid the airport and Air Mauritius.

The crew were great as usual. The flight was rescheduled two hours later but delayed by more than an hours to load cargo. The was upsetting because I missed scheduled meetings in Johannesburg.

Though the food was very good ,I think the portions were too big. It was hard to manage everything on that small table. And you really don't feel like eating too much on a long flight. Just a suggestion and it would save you some money too.

South Africa's Cape Town to become Africa's wealthiest city by 2030: report

CAPE TOWN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, is on track to surpass Johannesburg and emerge as Africa's wealthiest city by 2030, according to the 2024 Africa Wealth Report.

The latest report, published by international wealth advisory firm Henley & Partners in collaboration with global wealth intelligence partner New World Wealth, estimates that the total investable wealth currently held on the African continent amounts to 2.5 trillion U.S. dollars, and its millionaire population is set to increase by 65 percent over the next 10 years.

It reveals that there are currently 135,200 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) with liquid investable wealth of one million U.S. dollars or more living in Africa, along with 342 centi-millionaires worth 100 million U.S. dollars or more, and 21 dollar billionaires.

Despite a tough past decade which saw a 20 percent decline in its millionaire population, South Africa remains home to over twice as many HNWIs as any other African country, with 37,400 millionaires, 102 centi-millionaires and five billionaires, followed by Egypt with 15,600 millionaires, 52 centi-millionaires and seven billionaires, according to the report.

Nigeria sits in third place with 8,200 HNWIs, followed by Kenya (7,200 millionaires), Morocco (6,800), Mauritius (5,100), Algeria (2,800), Ethiopia (2,700), Ghana (2,700) and Namibia (2,300), all making it into the top 10 wealthiest countries in Africa.

At the city level, Johannesburg maintains its status as the wealthiest city in Africa, boasting 12,300 millionaires, 25 centi-millionaires and two billionaires. Cape Town follows closely behind, with 7,400 millionaires, 28 centi-millionaires and one billionaire. Cairo (7,200 millionaires), Nairobi (4,400) and Lagos (4,200) also stand out as key urban wealth hubs.

However, the report points out that Cape Town is currently benefiting from the ongoing "semigration" of large numbers of HNWIs from other parts of South Africa, especially Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The city is also an increasingly popular retirement destination for migrating millionaires from Europe and the rest of Africa.
