As always the crew were great, but they bear the burden for a lack lustre management. The flight was late, causing issues for us. The food was rubbish, a vegetable pizza on a piece of soggy white crust. The fish rots from the head.

Top 5 airlines flying to Australia

When boarding, after business class should be premium economy, but economy class already lined-up at the gate blocking premium economy to board. Singapore airline crew should done a better job to organize this chaos :( Thank you.

They were able to assist my elderly father and myself after not being able to check in to scoot. The counter service was phenomenal. They did what they could to get us on the next plane so we could catch our Connecting flight. Scoot closed early on us so we ended up missing our flight.

Transfer within the same terminal and lots of facilities at the airport.

Even though it was a very full flight, the service was still excellent, the plane did not feel too cramped and cabin crew made a sincere effort to help passengers find overhead space for stowing luggage.

The stewardess was very helpful all the way. My seat had an issue with headphones and after the replaced and gave me a new pair and noticed it was the seat I got a new chair to sit and a great ride back home

Very slow check in. Food poor and some of the special meals offered were not available. Luggage then didnt arrive and still waiting for news 48 hours later

We started with a 2 hour delay due to some airplane technical issues, and while we got a little snack pack, it was a pretty long delay for SQ. The flight itself was short, there's no entertainment on the B737-800 and there's a small snack. Functional.

Would have been nice to have more variety and less dairy in the Indian Vegetarian special meal. Why do they include Parathas as part of the entree and also on the side (substitute for bread/roll)? Also, no need for so much dairy...don't need milk packet, yogurt and Chobani Greek yogurt in the same meal.

A very small gate at Singapore airport, lots of people packed into a small area…. A Petrie dish for infection. The flight was late although the captain did make up time. We had an aisle and middle economy class seat on the plane. The flight appeared to be very full. The seats were small, hard and very uncomfortable with minimal leg room. I’m a small woman and felt really cramped. My husband is a big man and stated he was unable to move at all in his seat. We were given 2 meals during the flight from Singapore to Brisbane. Our first meal was okay at best but the second meal was inedible. I think it was supposed to be veg in pastry but the pastry was full of air with minimal if any filling. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Getting off the plane went without any problems. It did take an extended period of time for our bags to come out onto the carousel. For the best ‘airline’ in the world, it was pretty poor. If Singapore is the best, what are the others like?

The male traveller seated in the row in front diagonally opposite my husbands seat across the aisle as soon as the seatbelt sign went off moved across the aisle into the seat in front of my husband for the entire journey from London to Singapore he had his seat reclined and pushed back and the seat touching my husbands knees for the entire journey from London to Singapore. very uncomfortable for my husband.

Delayed, not enough information. Had to ask for refreshments, crew could have been more proactive

Delayed for 45 minutes. Don't know what's the issue. Other than that, food was not to my satisfaction. However it's okay.

My first course flight (Aor-Kul) was cancelled in the morning, and they asked me to board the night flight hence I need to transit overnight for the 2nd flight (Kul-Myy) that supposed to be on the same day. The overnight stay was not provided, (I'm traveling with my spouse, a daughter (5 y.o.) and an infant (2 months old). Hence I booked Sama Sama Hotel at my own expense (fortunately using my enrich miles points). Other than this issue, all services is good.

Orange juice change to mineral water . Should keep the orange juice.

Entertainment system was too old, crew were unorganised during boarding

No recognition for one World Emerald member. Business class seat has flat bed

No recognition for one World Emerald member. I got row 1 in business class and it was pathetic. No leg space, cramped space, less recline

Legs space in the business class cabin is too small and pillow is dirty!

Elderly individual shud be given priority to board the plane together with passengers with children and disabled. Otherwise things are OK.

Cabin crew as always are leaps and bounds the crowning glory of MH. Friendliness and natural warmth are such incredible traits. Food was very good on this flight also; and flexibility in meal time to accomodate rest was a plus point. Early arrival and landing as the first morning inbound at T4 LHR meant I was off the plane and in the queue for an Uber in less than 15 minutes!

6hrs fly they dont give you a glass of water from seoul to singapore need to buy drink and food plus they charge for bag on international fly is always Free 1 bag from seoul to singapore is Not a local fly you are traveling true asia same story from singapore to Bali no water drink after payment for bag drink cost more the regular airline Well never use this company again we use regular company like Delta korea japan China and even scoot parent company Singapore Air

We had 2 attempts to land at Singapore Changing during a thunderstorm. Everything was delayed by 1 hour plus.

Boarding was not accordingly after front seat, bmf then back seat. This delayed for at least 40mins or more. The staff at Jakarta can do better. Is chaos at the entry to board the plane. This tarnished Scoot reputation when everyone was talking about it.

The crew was not customer oriented at all, even confrontational . The aircraft needs more attention to detail as far as comfort, and the 1 hour sitting at the gate with no air is inexcusable

We flew on the 787 Dreamliner direct to main gate at KLIA2, quick entry via eGate and on the train 41mins after touchdown. Go well SCOOT

Was on scoot plus. The only good thing about the flight was the spacious seats. Tables and armrests were extremely dirty Food: bad Entertainment: non existent Wifi: unable to connect, then was painfully slow that we couldn’t even send messages Good thing we had a night flight, so we just slept throughout.

Not clear why boarding passes could only be issued at the counter and not through the kiosk. I had already check-in on the web, so waiting to obtain a boarding pass 1.5 hours before the actual flight defeats the purpose of early web check-in.

no charging point. food offering is limited and very much on the budget line. Overall is not satisfying for such a price and duration of flight.

We were delayed, but there was never any update given. Everyone was standing at the gate as boarding was supposed to commence at 13:10 for a 13:55 flight. We didn't actually start getting on the shuttles to the plane, until after 14:00. No updates, no information given at all.

Scoot refused to change my flight even though I had booked a flexible ticket. MyTrip wanted to charge me an extra $271 for a ticket that was only listed as $217. I complained about this to scoot and they didn't give a shite. So never again will you be getting money from me Scoot. You can Scoot off.

2 delayed flights - hotel layover in a different country- lost baggage.

Silly to not even offer people water for free when they are paying so much for tickets.

You get what you pay for. It’s functional and gets you from point A to B in good comfort. However, food options are limited and cash only, Crew is a hit and miss .. they get your attention if you reach out.

Good leg room ... air conditioning was a bit warm don't Book row 8 ... no windows

They got to the terminal late, with no one on the arriving flight, boarded us late, and left us sitting there for 2 hours before they got us off the ground. They knew they were going to be late, yet they never got an updated flight plan from their head office until long after the flight was supposed to leave. They could have cut the delay in half, of at least let us stay in the terminal. Really just horrible planning.

The worst kind of budget airline. To be honest....the plane was not that bad. Would have been good to have some food choices and some water. What was by far the worse is the passengers/customers that this airline attracts. Coughing and spluttering all over one another with no masks. Just disgusting. Pay for a better carrier and get a better class of passenger.

The best part was Tony Fernandes actually reinstated the Buttercake menu. It has gone missing after Covid & i made a complaint in one of my Tweets back in October 2022. Both flight D170 & D171 landed very smoothly- kudos to both pilots!

The worst experience in any flight I have ever had, delayed for more than 10 hours, lost my other flight so I lost one day during my trip. Didn’t gave me facilities with my luggage either. Never again

I was next to a quite large person. Soni essentially had 2/3 of my seat for myself and couldn't sit properly. Even though there were some other seat available, the staff refuse that I occupy another seat.

Pros: The staff was very friendly. Cons: Long delay. The food is terrible.

I’m a frequent Traveler on all types of airlines, including budget. This was the worst flight experience I’ve ever had. Something was wrong with AirAsia’s systems and we were the whole flight was rescheduled to the following day, the third flight it happened to. Apart from an email which gave the new date the web and app said the original flight date which meant that there were hundreds of people queueing at the airport to try and find out what was going on. People waited six hours to talk to customer service who gave advice that didn’t match the web or app. Nightmare. just advertising for spending the extra hundred dollars I’ve ever seen.

The best so far coz this time it was all male steward on the economy cluster. They were polite, efficient & genuinely courteous. They do not judge you when you ask for more food & peanuts.

My experience with the flight was okay. My experience checking in was absolutely terrible. I was told I needed to change my e-ticket number to check in because I missed my flight in PDX. Even when shown the itinerary, they didn't budge and sent me to KLM across the airport. KLM wasn't open until 8pm and my flight was at 7:30pm. Nobody made accommodations in any way to get me to KUL. To add insult to injury, they rescheduled my flight to the very next day, creating a very long layover and did not offer any hotel stay. After this, even worse, I found out later they delayed the first 7:30pm flight to 9:10pm. Meaning, I could have still boarded but they refused to even try to get me on the plane. As a result, I missed a day of work and lost pay for the day. Also, when I went to get my luggage, it wasn't there. It was STILL in Singapore. They had from 5:30pm to 5am to get my luggage onto the plane and they still couldn't get that right. This is the worst experience I've had flying anywhere in the past decade I've been travelling.

Orange juice change to mineral water . Should keep the orange juice.

No recognition for one World Emerald member. I got row 1 in business class and it was pathetic. No leg space, cramped space, less recline

Legs space in the business class cabin is too small and pillow is dirty!

Flight from Shanghai to Kuala Luumpur delay byy 3.5hrs with no real explanation.

Elderly individual shud be given priority to board the plane together with passengers with children and disabled. Otherwise things are OK.

I had purchased extra leg room for all legs of the flight but due to a delay in leaving Perth I was put on another flight but with Emirates. My luggage was initially lost but later found and my suitcase was broken. I ended up losing my upgrades

Bad experience, delay like no tomorrow. Original schedule departure time at 9:30pm, delayed until 12:05am only depart.

Great. Very satisfied with a direct flight from Penang back to HK international. Stewards in the cabin were very friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to fly with Air Asia in the future.

Second time flying on AirAsia. They’re fine for a low cost carrier, so I don’t expect high level hospitality. They could have informed us that the flight would be delayed even if by a few minutes, instead of the passengers asking the gate agents why we’re not boarding 8 minutes before takeoff. And given some of the passengers on this particular flight were problematic, the crew did great handling such people.

Meh, it was AirAsia. It's not about a quality.

Great flight. Achieve my objecttive of travelling with less hassle .

They didn't have a single blanket for hire for a long haul overnight flight. This wasn't good enough even for a budget airline

Kayak shares with you the best price! and in my case it was Air Asia flight. Air Asia flight was on time, the boarding was seamless with FACES technology at KLIA2 and the pilot made a great smooth landing upon arrival. Excellent trip!

I left the city late and fortunately the flight was also delayed 50mins

Air Asia’s standard has dropped tremendously post pandemic. The whole organisation feels ‘soul-less’

By the time the “sell “ cart came around to row 17 they were out of several items. This happened both leaving and arriving in Kuala Lumpur. Poor planning.

Perfect Perth Itinerary for 3, 5 or 7 Days

By: Author Amanda OBrien

Posted on Last updated: 01/03/2024

Wondering how many days to spend in Perth? This is always a hard question to answer. Perth is like a mini Australia in many ways – It has wine, wildlife, beaches, great food and nature in all its glory.

Ideally, visit Perth for at least three days. Even better visit for five days. Or visit for seven days and add in some of Perth’s biggest and best day trips (like a Rottnest Island Day Trip ) whilst still sleeping in the same boutique hotel every night.

perth-cbd-fish-street-art

My Perth itinerary covers several options. I have suggestions on what to do in 4 days in Perth, a Perth itinerary 5 days and a 7 days in Perth Australia option.

You can then move activities around between the different days as works best for your planned Perth travel itinerary.

Things to Book Before You Leave Home Few things are more frustrating on vacation than missing out on that amazing hotel or tour because it is sold out. Here are our top things to book before your vacation. 🐨 Most Popular Tours in Perth: 1. Rottnest Island – my top pick – don’t miss visiting this beautiful island 2. Dive with Sharks – this one has limited spots so booking is key 3. Pinnacles and Swan Valley Wine Trip – jaw-dropping natural beauty + great Aussie wine 4. See Perth on a Segway Tour – the most fun way to zip around Perth 🛏️ Where to Stay in Perth : 1. The Como Treasury – Perth’s most stylish hotel in the heart of downtown 2. QT Perth – the quirky style choice also downtown 3. The Alex Northbridge – sleek modern design 4. The Hougoumont Fremantle – boutique hotel made from sea containers

Perth is located on the southwest coast of Western Australia on the Swan River. Remember that Australia is big and a flight from sydney to Perth takes five hours (although it is usually much faster on the way back due to winds).

perth-blue-boathouse-2

Perth has an international airport and most major airlines fly to Perth after a stopover in Asia.

There was considerable publicity of late when Qantas announced a direct flight from London to Perth taking 16 1/2 hours. I personally have not taken this flight yet but Australian friends have and all have been very positive about the flight and particularly that they felt their jet lag was much better than normal.

⇒ Flights to Perth

Perth has free CAT buses within the city centre. There is a train line that runs through Perth and the suburbs including popular Fremantle. And there is Uber.

perth_cottesloe-gelato-shop

But if you are staying in Perth for longer than a couple of days then I would highly recommend hiring a car . Perth is a very easy city to drive around and there is generally loads of parking.

If you are from a big city, you may find the frequency of Perth public transport a little frustrating. Also, this is a sprawling city, so the locals will be driving most places!

perth-cbd-kangaroo-drinking-sculpture

Unless you have New Zealand citizenship, you will need to get a visa for Australia. However, the good news is that the online visa for Australia is a quick and easy process!

The entire online process only takes about 5 minutes. The most requested type of visa is the eVisitor which can be used for business or tourist purposes. The eVistor covers multiple entries over 12 months and stays of up to 3 months.

If your nationality doesn’t fit the criteria for the eVisitor then you can apply for an ETA visa (Electronic Travel Authority). This option is slightly more expensive whilst providing the same access as the eVisitor.

And there is a separate process if you are looking for a working holiday visa for Australia.

perth-cbd-town-hall

There is plenty to see and do in the heart of Perth itself. A great way to kick off a stay in Perth is to head to the beautiful Cottesloe Beach for a quick swim and breakfast. Cottesloe Beach is halfway between Perth and Fremantle.

perth_cottesloe-beach-2

Cottesloe Beach is loved by both locals and tourists with its stunning white sands and relaxed feel. Loads of cafes line its main street but I highly recommend heading to Il Lido . I enjoyed eating at Il Lido so much that I went their twice on my last trip to Perth!

perth_cottesloe-il-lido-pasta

One of the best ways to learn about Perth and to get a feel for its CBD is to take a tour. I took the Coffee, Culture and Art tour with local company Two Feet and a Heartbeat where I learned that the Perth city centre has been rejuvenated in the last 15 years.

perth-cbd-twisted-sculpture

You will get a chance to see the lovely kangaroo sculptures in Stirling Gardens, see the local street art and visit waterfront development Elizabeth Quay – all whilst learning the history of Perth.

perth-cbd-kangaroo-sculpture-reclines

In the afternoon head to Perth’s Kings Park . King’s Park is bigger than Central Park and could possibly be the biggest botanic garden in a city in the world at over 400 hectares! This beautiful park also has some stunning views of the city of Perth as well as the Swan River.

perth_kings-park_view-of-perth-2

The park has several cafes and restaurants and a fantastic gift shop with lots of stunning local contemporary art and crafts.

Insider Tip – Have a local show you around Perth There are few better ways to explore a city than having a local to show you around. That’s why I was really keen to try out local tour company Two Feet and a Heartbeat and I wasn’t disappointed! In addition to the Coffee Culture and Art tour which I took they have some great food tours like Eat Drink Walk Perth and the well-named Fromage ! AND if you give them the code BOUTIQUE Two Feet and a Heartbeat will give you a 10% discount!

perth_kings-park_sculpture

Lovely little Rottnest Island is just 18kms from the center of Perth. It is one of my favorite day trips in the world and loved by locals as much as tourists. It is almost an Australian landmark.

There are no cars on Rottnest Island and it has 20 bays, 63 beaches and 45 kilometres of cycling paths. Artefacts pre-dating 6,500 years have been found on Rottnest Island so it appears that the Aboriginals were also big fans!

Perth_rottnest_island_the-basin-2

It is very easy to travel to and around Rottnest Island independently but it does involve multiple bookings of ferry tickets and bike hire, figuring out ferry schedules and where and when to eat etc.

If you would prefer to have all of the administration taken care of for you but want to explore the island on a bike on your own the day trip to Rottnest from Fremantle or Perth does all of this and will pick you up and drop you back at your hotel.

Perth_rottnest_island_water

If you would like to explore Rottnest Island from the water than this Rottnest by Sea day tour is perfect. Your boat leaves Fremantle and then it explores Rottnest Island by pulling into different bays and beaches across the day.

For those who are keen to snorkel and dive the waters of Rottnest Island this Snorkel and Sail Catamaran Adventure is perfect.

⇒ Book Your Rottnest Island Day Trip Now

The best ferry for you will depend on where you are staying. If you are staying in North Perth, then Hillary’s Boat Harbour is a good place to catch the ferry to Rottnest Island. However, there are only a few ferries for a Rottnest Island day trip from Hillary’s each day and they take 45 minutes.

Perth_rottnest_island_ferry

The fastest route for a Rottnest Island one-day trip is from Fremantle at either B-shed or North Fremantle. This route takes 35 minutes. B-shed has a nice coffee place as well as somewhere for snacks – but I was told that the Rottnest Island bakery was much better and to save room in my stomach!

Travel Expert Tip – Book Your Rottnest Island Ferry at least 24 hours in advance Rottnest Island is one of the most popular things to do in Perth for both visitors and locals. Tickets sell out fast, particularly in the summer. Book your ticket ahead of time to avoid disappointment and long queues.

Rottnest Island has 45 km of cycling paths and to me, this is the best way to explore the island. I would recommend pre-booking your bike hire. It is possible to pre-book both your bike hire and ferry tickets together or hire an e-bike .

Perth_rottnest_island_salmon-bay-3

Or you can pre- book your bike hire with Pedal and Flipper and just pick it up when you arrive (Pedal and Flipper is about a 5-minute walk from where the ferry drops you on Rottnest Island).

Rottnest Island has 63 beaches and 20 bays! And pretty much all of them are ready for swimmers and sunbathers!

The beaches in the North tend to be a bit more sheltered whereas some of those in the south are beautiful but quite rugged. Pinky’s Beach and the Basin are two of the most popular beaches. They are both lovely and nice and close to Thomson Bay!

Perth_rottnest_island_ocean

I highly recommend the beautiful Little Salmon Bay. It is a bit farther away from Thomson Bay so not as busy and it is also a great spot for snorkelling. Geordie Bay and Parakeet Bay are also spectacular.

The Quokka looks like a little kangaroo and is native to Rottnest Island. The first recorded European visitor to Rottnest Island, William de Vlamingn, gave the island its name Rotte Nest (meaning rat’s nest) after he mistook the quokkas for rats.

Perth_rottnest_island_quokka

It is no wonder that Quokkas are known as the world’s happiest animals – they live on Rottnest Island! The quokkas roam free across Rottnest Island but seem to like spending a lot of time around the bakery and then the Rottnest Hotel from late afternoon.

Rottnest Island is highly encouraging of the Quokka selfie phenomenon, even providing full details of how to get the best Quokka selfie! However, the Quokkas are wild animals so don’t touch them and don’t feed them (all very Gremlins like!!).

Perth_rottnest_island_quokka-selfie

It is best to sit and wait and let them come to you. They are friendly little fellows and there are loads of them (between 10,000 and 12,000) so as long as you have a bit of time you are unlikely to be unsuccessful when it comes to acquiring a Quokka selfie!

The majority of places to eat on Rottnest Island are clustered around the main village which is at the ferry station. There are lots of food options across a range of prices.

The most famous spot is the Rottnest Bakery . Locals love this iconic bakery. When you’re ready for a glass of wine or a terrific meal head to Hotel Rottnest .

perth_matilda-bay-fish-and-chips

If you’re interested in staying the night on Rottnest Island, check out its boutique hotel!  Discovery Glamping Resort features 83 glamping tents across categories from standard (56 square meters) to deluxe (98 square meters). Deluxe tends to feature walk-in wardrobes and double vanities and some have uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean.

All of the tents have en suites and a furnished deck. The tents are made from sustainable materials and were designed to keep cool so there is no air conditioning.

Fremantle is Western Australia’s chief port and is just 25 minutes west of Perth. Founded in 1829 it is still home to many streets which are virtually unchanged since the mid 19th century. Many of these streets are now home to some fantastic restaurants, shops and bars.

Got 5 days in Perth? Here is a Perth 5 day itinerary I think you’ll like.

Lovely Caversham Wildlife Park is a fantastic place to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s unique wildlife! Caversham is about a 20-minute drive from the center of Perth. There are public transport options but they are all pretty painful so I highly recommend driving to Caversham Wildlife Park Perth!

perth-caversham-koala

Caversham is actually a private wildlife park – a family from Perth owns it and receives no government funding. This means that it is often more interactive than similar parks in Australia.

The park is divided into six sections and there are a number of daily activities. Do try to plan your visit around the timings of the daily activities which are all listed on the Caversham Wildlife website.

perth-caversham-kangaroos

For me, the highlight was meeting the koalas! There are generally four sessions of meet the koalas each day. Handlers bring out the koalas. Visitors are then invited one by one to have some time with the koalas and are able to stroke their backs. I loved doing this!

Meet the Wombat and friends is another daily session that runs four times a day. A wombat is a uniquely Australian marsupial. He is not as cute as a koala (what is??) but definitely worth checking out! Again, the wombat is held by someone from the park and it is possible to sit next to the wombat.

The friends include other typically Australian forms of wildlife like cockatoos, snakes, quokkas and possums.

perth-caversham-wombat

Feeding the kangaroos is open all day! There are quite a few kangaroos and wallabies at Caversham Wildlife Park. Food is freely available to give them and then hopefully a good photograph!

The morning is the best time as the kangaroos and the wallabies are up and about. Don’t visit on a warm afternoon as I did; they were lounging under the trees in the shade and weren’t terribly interested in anything!

Only 30 30-minute drive from Perth is the beautiful Swan Valley. It is filled with rolling hills, wildflowers, walking trails, some great restaurants and most importantly some great wineries!

perth-swan-valley-cheese-board

The Swan Valley has a Mediterranean-style climate plus rich soil and access to water from the Swan River, all of which make for some fantastic wine. Key varietals are Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Petit Verdot and Shiraz. The area is also known for excellent sparkling and fortified wines.

With a first vintage in 1834, the Swan Valley is the second oldest wine region in Australia (New South Wales ‘ Hunter Valley is the oldest). The climate is similar to that of Greece , Croatia and southern Spain. Indeed, many of the Swan Valley vineyards were started by families from southern Europe.

perth-swan-valley-riverbank

Of course, the best way to visit a wine region is without a car! I can highly recommend d’Vine Wine Tours . Breanna and Ewen, the owners of this small company, are both born and bred in Perth. Both of them have extensive backgrounds in hospitality – and extensive personal experience with the wines of the Swan Valley!

perth-swan-valley-d'vine-tour-bus

I took their full day Swan Valley Wine tour. It was very well organised with a well-signed central pick up point in the Perth CBD. We then visited several wineries in the Swan Valley – and everyone on the tour received a 20% discount on any wines purchased! That is the same discount as the staff!

perth-swan-valley-pizza

d’Vine also runs wine tours to the Bickley Valley, a special TGIF tour to kick off the weekend plus a special Sunday half-day tour.

Special Offer for Readers of The Boutique Adventurer The fab team at d’Vine Wine Tours are offering readers of The Boutique Adventurer a 5% discount on all of their tours! Just use the code TBA5OFF when you book !

And don’t leave without a visit to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory – if you can’t get down to Margaret River enjoy the best of its chocolate at this huge store and factory!

They have some outstanding ice cream , light lunches and chocolate Quokkas!

The Perth Hills provides a charming country Australia experience within just 45 minutes of the center of Perth. It is home to a whopping 8 National Parks, including Bibbulmun and lots of other walking and cycling trails.

perth-perth-hills-cider-building-view-vines

This area is also home to some great restaurants and wineries. The Perth Hills is known for having some fantastic apples and is home to two great Cider Houses – Naked Apple and Core Cider . Both serve meals and make for a lovely day out.

If possible, time your trip to the Perth Hills on a Sunday to attend the Kalamunda Farmer’s Market in the Central Mall. And on the first Saturday of every month, the full Kalamunda Village Market with over 150 stalls is held in the Central Mall.

So far this itinerary for Perth has only had one day in actual Perth! So let’s spend a day exploring more of what Perth has on offer – based on its fabulous food! Mix and match from my list below to plan a perfect foodie day!

perth-trigg-beach

  • Head to Northbridge for Dim Sum. Northbridge is a thriving dining and nightlife area just north of the CBD. It is home to various cuisines but does lean towards Asian and Italian. I highly recommend Juicy Bao Bao – don’t miss their wontons in homemade spicy sauce.
  • Have fish and chips with the black Swans on Matilda Bay. Lovely Matilda Bay is just outside the Perth CBD and a natural Swan River bay. It is home to many photogenic and rather pushy black swans and some great fish and chips – check out the Bayside Kitchen. Matilda Bay is also very close to the renowned Perth Instagram spot the Blue Boatshed .
  • Enjoy brunch with a view in Peppermint Grove. This high-end Perth suburb has some more very photogenic boatsheds as well as the fantastic Freshwaters restaurant. Order your brunch inside and then take a seat on the lovely deck and look out over the swan river.
  • Go shopping and have coffee in Subiaco. Subiaco is inner-city cool Perth style. It all happens on Rokeby Road which is home to cute boutiques and high-end shops plus loads of cafes and wine bars. Enjoy a toasted sandwich Australian style at the Jaffle Shack.
  • Have lunch by the seaside in Trigg. North of the center of Perth, Trigg Island beach is home to one of Perth’s surf breaks. And the lovely Island Market restaurant where you can dine on modern Australian cuisine whilst watching the waves.

With a Perth 7 day itinerary it is possible to include one of the fantastic day trips Perth has on offer.

I love Margaret River !! I first visited this beautiful region in Australia over 20 years ago and fell in love with it! Margaret River has forests, beautiful coastline, farmland galore and some of Australia’s best wineries.

perth-swan-valley-vineyards

The region is deserving of its own dedicated trip but if you don’t have the time or the inclination to move from your boutique hotel take a Margaret River day trip.

Margaret River is a 3-hour drive from Perth and as it is all about the wineries, I highly recommend you take a tour for this Perth day trip! Avoid six hours in the car by flying down to Margaret River and then hopping on a coach for a 5-hour tour of the region’s wineries.

perth-swan-valley-lancaster

Or combine the wineries with a visit to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and Mammoth Caves. Or visit the lovely towns of Busselton and Yallingup as well as Margaret Rivers’ famous wineries.

The Pinnacles Desert is 200km north of Perth which is about a 2 hour drive from Perth. The desert covers an area of about 190 hectares and is home to thousands of limestone Pinnacles, some of which are up to five metres high.

perth_kings-park_flame

These extraordinary structures are over 25,000 years old, formed after the sea receded and left deposits of sea shells. The surrounding sand was moved by coastal winds over time, leaving the pinnacles exposed to the elements.

There are many options for day tours to the Pinnacles. The visit is normally combined with either a visit to Yanchep National Park to see koalas and kangaroos, or with Caversham Wildlife Park and the Swan Valley in one big day or head to the Pinnacles in the evening for some amazing stargazing.

⇒ Book your Pinnacles Tour

Or if you have a bit more time why not drive north to Exmouth , gateway town to Ningaloo?

⇒ Planning a trip to Melbourne? Read about the Best Place to Stay in Melbourne , where to have a fantastic Melbourne Brunch , 18 brilliant places to watch the sunset in Melbourne , and 2 of Melbourne’s best side-trips: The Mornington Peninsula and Daylesford . And don’t forget Melbourne is very close to the wonderful Tasmania .

perth-peppermint-grove-pier

⇒ Perth is a long way away from the East Coast of Australia. It is a five-hour flight from Sydney to Perth. Yes, really!

⇒Don’t forget that unless you are a citizen of New Zealand you will need to get the online Visa for Australia . And there is a separate online process if you are looking for an Australian working holiday visa.

⇒ Perth doesn’t observe any daylight savings time eg it is the same time all year round. It’s time zone is Western Standard Time (WST) which is GMT +8.

perth-northbridge-wontons

⇒ Wifi is easily accessible in Perth. Most hotels, restaurants etc will have free wifi. The Perth CBD, Northbridge and East Perth all have the free “Perth Wifi” which visitors can access.

⇒ Australia has a rather uncommon 230V electricity system and is type 1. Most likely you will need an adaptor.

⇒ I do love a Hop on Hop off bus to get a feel for a city! Check out the Perth Hop On Hop Off Bus.  And Fremantle also has a Hop On Hop Off bus.

Perth has some fantastic boutique hotels! Indeed, it is hard to choose amongst all of the great options – and they also tend to be very good value for accommodation of this standard.

My favourite is Como the Treasury . The Victorian era building and former barracks were restored to reveal high ceilings, cornices, and balconies that were then styled with a modern touch.

Como The Treasury Hotel Perth

This is a very special hotel with a unique feel. It has 48 guest rooms, one of the hottest restaurants in Perth (Wildflower, a glassed-in building on the rooftop featuring a traditional Aboriginal-style seasonal menu), a Como Shambhala spa and connected bars that allow you to take your glass of wine all through the hotel! And it is located literally in the heart of the city.

I love the QT hotels , which are across Australia and New Zealand! Yes, they are a chain but they are a small chain. QT Hotels tend to have great inner-city locations, eclectic and stylish designs and great bars and restaurants.

QT Hotel Perth

Perth’s QT hotel is more of the same with a fab rooftop bar and a great Italian restaurant, Santini Grill.

The Alex Hotel is located in quirky Northbridge, one of Perth’s inner-city suburbs and home to some of its most interesting and edgy restaurants and bars. Check out The Shadow Wine Bar and use one of their bikes to head down to Cottesloe Beach.

The Hougoumont is in lovely little Fremantle, one of Perth’s most happening areas and the kick off point for several Rottnest Island ferries. This hotel was actually built using shipping container construction methods!

This stylish and quirky hotel offers wine and cheese tastings every evening as well as tea and toast in the morning – from the fantastic Bread in Common Bakery in Fremantle.

Perth, of course, uses Australian dollars. ATMs are easily available and most restaurants, tourist attractions etc not only take credit cards they will have touch payment. You may need cash for some smaller restaurants and shops but it will be infrequent.

Summers are warm and dry in Perth and winters are long, cool and wet. Summer is between December and February and the average temperature is 30 degrees. However, Perth is known for the cool wind blowing in most evenings (called the Fremantle Doctor), making sleeping easier.

Autumn is March to May and temperatures average around the mid 20s. Winter is from June to August and isn’t the best time to visit. Spring starts in September and is a great time to visit as is Autumn, in my opinion.

I would love to visit Perth! I am dreaming about meeting the quokkas since many years! And I want to see this little blue house too, so photogenic!

AirAsia Malaysia achieves historic milestone with inaugural flight to Perth, Australia

' src=

In a significant stride forward in its expansion strategy, AirAsia Malaysia marked a momentous occasion with its inaugural flight to Perth, Australia. The maiden journey, facilitated by AirAsia’s Airbus A321neo aircraft, took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 2:10 PM and gracefully touched down at Perth International Airport on the same day at 7:50 PM local time, boasting an impressive 95% passenger load. The enthusiastic guests aboard flight AK604 were treated to a warm send-off by the AirAsia team, receiving exclusive merchandise-filled goodie bags.

Starting from today, AirAsia travelers will enjoy expanded options with an increase in great value fares to and from the capital of Western Australia, surging from seven weekly flights to an impressive 14. With this strategic expansion to Perth, AirAsia reaffirms its dedication to democratizing air travel to additional destinations, solidifying its standing as Asia’s premier low-cost airline.

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed his excitement, stating, “We’re truly excited to launch AirAsia Malaysia’s first-ever route to Australia, commencing with one of our most frequented cities in the country – the beautiful Perth. This adds to our daily existing flights on this route operated by our medium-haul affiliate airline AirAsia X (AAX). Thanks to the addition of the new model A321neo aircraft with longer range capabilities spanning over five hours and numerous operational efficiencies, we are able to make these new services a reality on a narrowbody aircraft from Kuala Lumpur so that more of our guests can travel to Australia affordably.”

Perth stands out as a beloved destination for many Malaysians, drawing travelers from across the country and beyond for leisure, tourism, education, and visiting family and friends due to its proximity to Southeast Asia. Moreover, Malaysia holds the position of Western Australia’s fourth-largest international visitor market, injecting $99 million into the WA economy in visitor expenditure for the year ending in September 2023. Conversely, Asia remains a top destination for Australians seeking an affordable and culturally diverse experience.

To celebrate this historic milestone, AirAsia is offering all-in fares from Kuala Lumpur to Perth starting from only RM299* and from Perth to Kuala Lumpur from just AUD166*, all for one-way travel. This special fare is available for booking from today until March 17, 2024, for travel between now and November 30, 2024. Travelers can conveniently book their journeys by clicking on the ‘Flights’ icon on the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly known as the airasia Superapp) or the website.

Simple Flying

Perth airport welcomes thai airways boeing 787 daily bangkok flights.

Perth Airport has welcomed back Thai Airways with daily flights to Bangkok, adding to the strengthened connections to Singapore and Hong. Kong

  • Perth Airport sees a boost in travel with Thai Airways' return, offering convenient connections to Asia and beyond.
  • Thai Airways has added a daily Dreamliner service to Bangkok from Perth, supporting tourism, business, and student travel.
  • Perth Airport also benefits from increased flights to Asia, including from AirAsia, Cathay Pacific, and Singapore Airlines.

Western Australia is Australia's largest state by land mass, and with 975,685 square miles within its borders, air travel is vital to the state's economy, tourism, business and trade sectors. Located on the Indian Ocean, Perth has long-established links to Asia and robust travel between the regions for family and friends reunions, education, and tourism in both directions.

Perth is well connected to Asia

The relatively short flying times to Asia's capitals means the region is also a convenient connecting point for Western Australians, be it to other Asian cities or onwards to European destinations. March has been a particularly fruitful month for Perth Airport , with new services starting, suspended ones resuming, and extra frequencies added, such as the recent move by Cathay Pacific to increase Hong Kong flights daily.

Yesterday, the airport got another boost when Thai Airways returned to Perth to resume the service that last operated on October 29, 2022. At that time, Thai Airways (THAI) was in a challenging financial position and reported to Thailand's Central Bankruptcy Court under the terms of its Rehabilitation Plan after initially filing for bankruptcy in 2019 with debts exceeding $6.4 billion.

Now in a much stronger position, THAI is adding aircraft and expanding its network, like on Sunday when Thai Airways flight TG 481 departed Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) at 08:17 and after a flight of 6:11 hours landed in Perth at 15:29.

When the route was announced in January, Perth Airport Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove said the return of the service means tourists, students and businesses had the option of a non-stop connection to Bangkok, which would deliver 186,368 seats and 14,000 tonnes of cargo capacity to the Perth market annually.

"With Thailand being Western Australia's eighth largest trading partner and a significant market for international students, the resumption of non-stop flights provides a massive opportunity for both our economies."

The flight was operated with a 2015 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner , registration HS-TQE and MSN 38757, that later departed Perth Airport as flight TG 482 at 17:06 and arrived in Bangkok at 22:20. The Dreamliner was not idle for long as at 01:41 it departed on a 4:22 hour flight to Fukuoka Airport (FUK) in Japan, landing at 08:04 on Monday.

A daily 787 Dreamliner service

According to ch-aviation , HS-TQE is one of six 787-8 Dreamliners operated by THAI in its fleet of 71 aircraft. The data shows a fleet that includes 20 Airbus A320-200s, three A330-300s, 18 A350-900s, five Boeing 777-200ERs, 17 777-300ERs, six 787-8s and two 787-9s.

The operating aircraft, HS-TQE, first flew in April 2015 and was delivered in the same month and registered to Thai Airways International under lease from AerCap. It has 256 seats configured in a two-class layout of 22 lie-flat business class seats and 234 economy class seats.

The route will operate daily, although the timings will differ depending on the day of departure from Perth. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, flight TG482 will depart Perth at 16:20 and arrive in Bangkok at 22:20, while TG481 will leave BKK at 07:20 and land in Perth at 15:05.

We'd love to see you on Instagram - follow us here !

On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the service has a morning departure with flight TG484 leaving Perth at 09:20 and arriving in Bangkok at 15:20, while TG483 departs BKK at 00:01 and lands in Perth at 07:45.

Other notable successes at Perth Airport in March include a new AirAsia Malaysia A321neo daily flight from Kuala Lumpur , the upgrading of the Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to daily and last week's announcement that Singapore Airlines will return to its pre-COVID frequency of four daily services between Perth and Singapore.

Travelmath helps you find distances based on actual road trip directions, or the straight line flight distance. You can get the distance between cities, airports, states, countries, or zip codes to figure out the best route to travel to your destination. Compare the results to the straight line distance to determine whether it's better to drive or fly. The database uses the latitude and longitude of each location to calculate distance using the great circle distance formula. The calculation is done using the Vincenty algorithm and the WGS84 ellipsoid model of the Earth, which is the same one used by most GPS receivers. This gives you the flying distance "as the crow flies." Find your flight distances quickly to estimate the number of frequent flyer miles you'll accumulate. Melbourne’s Next-Level Pastry Scene Is Reason Enough to Book a Flight to Australia

Come to Melbourne for the lamingtons, stay for the madeleines.

trip to perth australia from malaysia

Nigel Killeen/Getty Images

You could say that Melbourne has always been a pastry city. Jewish refugees paved the way with chocolate Kugelhopf, baked cheesecake, and plum cake when Pearl and Joseph Levine arrived by ship from Poland via Perth, opening the Monaco Cake Shop in the inner city suburb of Carlton in 1931. The bakery followed the influx of Jewish migrants to the seaside suburb of St Kilda, moving to a new location on Acland Street three years later and rebranding as Monarch Cake Shop . This little slice of continental Europe quickly spawned three new cake shops on the same street when a few of the Levines’ apprentices left to open their own businesses . Although it’s now had a handful of owners over the decades, Monarch is still open today and still baking that Polish cheesecake to a 100-year-old recipe.

If this seems like a rather recent timeline, consider that Melbourne was established by British colonizers in 1835, supplanting 40,000 years of Indigenous culture and food traditions in the place the local First Nations people called Naarm. The newly established colony experienced huge growth in the 1850s during a gold rush, then again in the postwar 1950s with the arrival of Italians, Greeks, and Yugoslavs with their coffee and pastry traditions in tow, forming the largest communities of migrants in the city through to the 1970s. The city saw another wave of migration in the 1980s with the arrival of refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia. Today Melbourne is one of Australia’s most culturally diverse cities.

This history lesson is important because it explains the breadth and depth of Melbourne’s pastry scene. It's home to Vietnamese bakeries like the long-running Phuoc Tan offering incredible steam-baked baguettes, as well as Cannoli Bar 's crisp, ricotta-filled cannoli. Tokyo Lamington 's Japanese-born owners reimagine the iconic, fluffy, Australian lamington — a square of sponge cake iced in cocoa and sprinkled with desiccated coconut — through the flavors of their heritage.

“Growing up in Melbourne, you are exposed to the local bakery from a very young age. It’s where mum or dad pick up a loaf of bread for school lunches, buy a lamington for afternoon tea, and if you were lucky, a sausage roll on the weekend,” says Rebekah Pedler, a Melbourne native who is the pastry sous chef at the three-Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park in New York City. “Bakeries were a constant source of conversation in our household, and we’d often debate the merits of the goods from the new Russian bakery in town or the Greek pastry shop up the street.”

It’s apt that a young Pedler pursued a career in pastry after finishing her chef's apprenticeship. She was inspired by the likes of internationally renowned chef Raymond Capaldi who led the charge in molecular gastronomy in 1990s Melbourne with desserts that combined “chocolate soil” with wasabi ice cream, as well as Swiss-born chef Pierre Roelofs — who had worked at The Fat Duck and El Celler de Can Roca — and charmed Melbourne locals with a tiny weekly dessert pop-up showcasing whimsical desserts served inside glass test tubes.

It’s in this creative, pastry-forward environment that a former Formula 1 engineer, Kate Reid, kicked things up a notch with the arrival of her now world-famous Lune Croissanterie in 2012. Her creations have a global following and her croissant is widely considered one of the best on earth. “The croissants are very special. I believe that her background in engineering really drove her research and development stage, which has definitely paid off in precision and execution. I was at Lune during the Australian Open tennis tournament this year, and there were quite a few international people in line who had made the pilgrimage to taste her glorious creations,” says Pedler.

In addition to the perfect prototype croissant, cruffins, and morning buns, Reid and her team also produce savory offerings such as the everything croissant with confit garlic, a carbonara-style Danish with bacon bechamel and an egg yolk, and a pain Suisse-inspired creation filled with gochujang ground beef and kimchi. In 2021, Reid opened a sibling to Lune called Moon , which specializes in fried crullers glazed in vibrant hues. They produce four classic flavors and two “wild cards” per month, including combinations like coconut and lime, and rose and lychee.

This laser focus on perfecting one pastry is a common theme behind a new wave of pastry stars in Melbourne. “I think Reid has set the standard for people across the hospitality landscape," says Pedler. "Not just desserts and pastry — to focus on one area and really hone in on it, understand it inside and out, and perfect it.”

Another case in point is chef Gareth Whitton of Tarts Anon , who — you guessed it — specializes in the magic art of the tart. Last year’s Masterchef Australia: Dessert Masters winner was the head pastry chef at the Melbourne outpost of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (where Pedler was one of his underlings), launching Tarts Anon with his partner Catherine Way from their home kitchen during the pandemic. It became one of the city’s most popular lockdown bakeries and they opened a brick-and-mortar location in 2021. The duo's incredibly precise, perfect tarts bought by the slice lean into some classic Australian flavor pairings like mango and macadamia, as well as into nostalgia. Their peanut “freckle” tart pays homage to the iconic Australian sprinkle-covered chocolate candy, the tart shell layered in caramel-soaked sponge, a brown butter and popcorn custard, and choc-hazelnut popping candy.

A singular focus is also the business model behind Madeleine de Proust in the Carlton neighborhood, where co-owners Hyoju Park and Rong Yao Soh lean into traditional French technique fused with an Australian sensibility and pan-Asian ingredients. Korean-born Park was formerly the pastry chef at Attica, one of Australia's most awarded and globally recognized restaurants, while Soh, who hails from Malaysia, cut his teeth in Michelin-starred kitchens in London. You can taste that heritage and experience in their use of flavors like black sesame, brown butter and Tasmanian leatherwood honey, and pandan and coconut. “Their madeleines are an ethereal experience. Plump and fluffy with a generous explosion of flavor — simple but perfect,” says Pedler.

Another Attica alum, Rosemary Andrews, also focuses on doing one thing well at her bakery Mietta in the form of impossibly perfect eight-layer cakes sold by the slice in flavors including hazelnut tiramisu, and carrot, toasted pecan, and white chocolate, as well as whole Basque cheesecakes featuring pairings like pandan and white chocolate, and roasted corn and muscovado.

These bakeries are just a small fraction of Melbourne’s pastry greatness. There are many more spots the hungry and curious traveler should not miss, like Monforte Viennoiserie and its ridiculously handsome sausage rolls, Chic de Partie and its boozy brioche, and the stalwart Baker de Chirico for its sourdough loaves and bombolone. In considering the current wave of bakers shaking up the scene in her hometown, Pedler points out that there is truly a high level of fluency in pastry in the city.

“I think Melbourne is so receptive to these businesses because there’s a very good baseline of knowledge in food, even for people who are not in the industry," she says. "Enjoying something in its peak most elite form is something Melbournians are [passionate about].”
