SC-4 activates ablative generator 3

The SC-4 with armor deployed

The Ablative generators were an advanced armor technology used by Starfleet in the 25th century. Shield emitters generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of a ship so equipped. This defensive technology was acquired by the crew of USS Voyager in 2377 from Admiral Kathryn Janeway of an alternate timeline . It could barely be penetrated by disruptors or stop the ship with tractor beams.

History [ ]

In the alternate timeline, ablative generators were developed as an anti-Borg technology by Captain Janeway. Invented some time after they encountered the transwarp hub hidden inside a nebula in 2377, but chose not to investigate it further. She used the technology to protect Voyager against the Borg on their voyage back to Earth . By 2404, ablative generators had not yet become standard equipment on Starfleet vessels. Ships like the USS Rhode Island were not equipped with them. Also, the Klingons did not yet posses ablative generators . During that year, Admiral Janeway embarked on an illegal mission to change history by travelling back in time to help secure Voyager's safe return to the Alpha Quadrant seventeen years early. Janeway utilized a Starfleet Command shuttlecraft, the SC-4 , equipped with ablative generators when meeting with Korath, a Klingon scientist, who had developed the chrono deflector, a device capable of generating temporal rifts for time travel. Janeway stole the chrono deflector and used the ablative armor to defend the shuttle against nadion discharges fired by Korath's Negh'Var-class warship in a retaliatory attack . After successfully travelling back in time to 2377, Admiral Janeway assisted Voyager's crew in manufacturing and installing the advanced armor technology aboard the ship. The crew used the armor to defend themselves against Borg attacks while attempting to access the transwarp hub located in grid 986. When the Borg Queen assimilated Admiral Janeway, she also assimilated knowledge of how to construct the armor technology, but was killed by the neurolytic pathogen Janeway was infected with. Eventually Voyager's armor integrity was depleted down to to six percent by a pursuing Borg sphere and the crew had to allow the ship to be captured. They were, however, able to use transphasic torpedoes to destroy the sphere upon exiting the transwarp conduit near Earth . ( VOY episode : " Endgame ")

Section 5.0: Auxiliary Vehicles

5.1: overview.

Shuttlecraft have always been a secondary means of getting people from ship to shore, in favor of the much quicker matter-energy transporter system. Nevertheless, starships have carried expansive facilities for these cheap, usually expendable craft.

Many new ways to subvert and detect transporter use have developed during the late 2360’s and 2370’s. Coupled with several more recent situations where a starship must effectively be in one place and also deliver someone or something to another led to a sudden resurgence in the use of shuttles. Many models are now capable of short interstellar journeys.

5.2: Engine Capabilities

Shuttlecraft back in the 22nd century had no warp capability at all, due to the fact that the smallest M/AM reactors of the time were as large as the shuttles themselves. During the mid 23rd century, M/A reactors were finally small enough to install on larger shuttlecraft. These shuttles were far from capable of interstellar travel, and their tiny warp drives could only sustain any appreciable warp factor for a few hours. By the 24th century, shuttlecraft could sustain these speeds for up to two days, making short-range interplanetary journies possible. However, the limited size and capacity of these ships prevented them from being used in any greater role.

Advancements in magnetic constriction technology eventually led to true interstellar capability in small craft with the development of the Danube -class runabout in 2368. This revolutionary vessel quickly became the workhorse for interstellar courier, patrol, and cargo/personnel delivery duties. It was only capable of Warp 5, making even a medium-range trip last a few weeks. It was, however, vastly cheaper to deploy than a bona fide starship.

The beginning of the 25th century has seen some of the highest-performance small craft ever to see service in Starfleet. The largest non-runabout models are capable of Warp 8 for a week, and the runabout models are even capable of Warp 9.4 for an equal duration.

5.3: Tactical Capabilities

Shuttlecraft of old were rarely armed with any real firepower. They were usually armed with a pair of Type-4 phasers, if any armament at all. With increasing amounts of hostility from both pirate and terrorist groups on the fringes of Federation territory, and the threat from major powers such as the Breen, Sheliak or Klingons, shuttles have become increasingly vulnerable to attack.

The Deployable Ablative Armor brought back with the USS Voyager has been a great boon to shuttle defense capabilities, but even the armor has its limits. Recent advances in phaser and disruptor weapon prefire chambers have made weapons even more powerful than ever, making shuttles once again vulnerable to threats from well-equipped enemies.

The most recent shuttles have been equipped with a miniature regenerative shield system, giving the shields a much needed boost be once again on par with armor protection. Armor itself has also been upgraded to the new reactive polarizing armor, affording the shuttles even more protection and also retaining their remarkable maneuverability.

Weapons systems have also been compacted considerably. Type-6 and Type-7 phasers have finally been compacted to a size that can be installed on shuttles, and Mark I Microtorpedo launchers have had a similar increase in compactness. However, microtorpedoes still suffer from the fact that their small size prohibits any decent guidance systems, effectively making them more useful being dumbfired at close range like explosive rockets. Their compactness does, however, allow for a relatively large magazine size.

Modern shuttlecraft are also equipped with at least one modular external hardpoint for multimission capability. The largest non-runabout shuttle comes with an option to install a weapon pod with a Type-8 capital-grade phaser, making it the heaviest-armed small craft ever developed. Shuttles, however, have ample energy weapon power with their integral phasers, and often are instead equipped with additional microtorpedo launchers and magazines.

As guidance and propulsion systems on capital-grade torpedo weapons improved over the years, they eventually got accurate enough to pose a huge risk to small craft. They were fast, agile, powerful, and guided, making them a small craft’s worst nightmare. Starfleet has begun equipping all its small craft with intetgral electronic countermeasures and jamming equipment to defend against the increasingly complex, yet still cheap and disposable guidance systems on capital torpedoes.

5.4: Shuttlecraft on the Phoenix Class

The Phoenix -class vessels carry four main types of shuttlecraft, in addition to a complement of craft of the venerable, tried-and-true “Work Bee” industrial utility craft.

Type-25 Shuttlecraft

When viewed from the side or the top, the Type-25 shuttle is a boxlike vehicle with a sloped forward viewport and underslung warp nacelles.

Type: Medium long-range interstellar shuttle

Dimensions: Length, 7.5 meters; Beam, 3.25 meters; Draft, 4.25 meters

Mass: 86.35 metric tonnes (unloaded, 130 mT loaded)

Accomodation: 2 flight crew; 6 passengers

Power Plant: 1 Model 3DVa M/AM reactor; 6 Class-5 microfusion reactors; 6-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Performance: Warp 6.5 (sustained); 12,000 km/s² (full impulse in 6.25 seconds)

Armament: 2 Type-6 phaser emitters

Defenses: Regenerative shields (80,300 terajoules); Polarizing reactive armor (1.5 centimeters)

Errata: Multipurpose pod attachment hardpoint on dorsal fuselage

The Type-25 is the workhorse shuttle, being of a medium build. It still has an impressive array of capabilities, such as Type-6 phasers, a regenerative shield system, and a modest interstellar-capable warp drive. The shuttle’s capabilities can be expanded with a multipurpose pod attached to a dorsal fuselage connection hardpoint. It has only recently been deployed to the Enterprise and Leviathan , and has yet to see any field use in their service.

Type-22 Shuttlecraft

The Type-22 shuttle is a small podlike craft with a sloped cockpit and slim winglike engines instead of nacelles.

Dimensions: Length, 7.5 meters; Beam, 3.5 meters; Draft, 4.25 meters

Mass: 78.50 metric tonnes (unloaded, 120 mT loaded)

Power Plant: 1 Model 3DV M/AM reactor; 6 Class-5 microfusion reactors; 6-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Performance: Warp 6 (sustained); 13,200 km/s² (full impulse in 5.7 seconds)

Armament: 2 Type-5 phaser emitters

Defenses: Standard shields (50,500 terajoules); Deployable ablative armor (1 centimeter)

The Type-22 shuttlecraft is an older model, slowly being phased out in favor of the Type-25. The Type-25 has only recently begun production, giving the Type-22 around a year left of useful service. They are somewhat of a maintenance hassle aboard the Phoenix Class vessels, due to the fact that they are the only craft on board that require parts for deployable ablative armor. Two examples of Type-22 craft on the Enterprise are the Aristotle and Archimedes .

Type-26 Shuttlecraft

The Type-26 shuttle is bulky, with a rounded rather than sloped forward viewport and equipment pods mounted on the upper port and starboard sides. Two triangular wings containing the engines sweep back and down.

Type: Heavy long-range interstellar shuttle

Dimensions: Length, 9.5 meters; Beam, 8.0 meters; Draft, 3.5 meters

Mass: 102.50 metric tonnes (unloaded, 190 mT loaded)

Power Plant: 1 Model 4CC M/AM reactor; 8 Class-5 microfusion reactors; 7-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Performance: Warp 8 (sustained); 10,000 km/s² (full impulse in 7.5 seconds)

Armament: 2 Type-7 phaser arrays, 2 microtorpedo launchers

Defenses: Regenerative shields (130,600 terajoules); Polarizing reactive armor (2 centimeters)

The largest shuttlecraft built to date, the Type-26 is a behemoth vehicle. It is essentially a “mini-runabout.” It is also the most capable craft, being able to traverse interstellar distances at an appreciable speed, and packing powerful armament. It is capable of supporting a Type-8 capital phaser, mounted in a multipurpose pod on the dorsal fuselage. A noteworthy example of the Type-26 on the Enterprise is the Pathfinder .

Type-20 Shuttlepod

The tiny Type-20 pod is basically a cockpit with a tiny engine behind it. Unlike larger shuttles, there are no warp nacelles.

Type: Light short-range sublight shuttle

Dimensions: Length, 5.0 meters; Beam, 3.8 meters; Draft, 1.6 meters

Mass: 27.5 metric tonnes

Accomodation: 2 flight crew

Power Plant: 1 Model 2DC M/AM reactor; 2-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Performance: Warp 3 (sustained, with warp drive multipods); 15,000 km/s² (full impulse in 5 seconds)

Defenses: Standard shields (58,400 terajoules); Polarizing reactive armor (1 centimeter)

Errata: Multipurpose pod attachment hardpoints on port/starboard aft fuselage

The shuttlepod has always been a poor performing small craft, being hampered by the inability to carry any useful powerplant within their small frames. The Type-20 Shuttlepod is a radical departure, carrying the smallest matter/antimatter reactor ever created as its powerplant. This small reactor makes the Type-20 a powerhouse capable of matching the performance of larger shuttles in most regards. The shuttle’s capabilities can be expanded with two multipurpose pods attached to fuselage connection hardpoints.

5.5: Larger Auxiliary Craft

Two other auxiliary craft are carried on board the Enterprise , stored in their own separate hangars away from the main shuttlebay on the underside of the stardrive hull’s tail.

Phoenix Class Captain’s Yacht

The Captain’s Yacht is a sleek flattened ellipsoid with a pointed nose and two cockpit windows. In the rear, short wings project horizontally aft to support the warp nacelles.

Dimensions: Length, 18.0 meters; Beam, 9.0 meters; Draft, 4.5 meters

Mass: 135.5 metric tonnes

Accomodation: 2 flight crew, 10 passengers

Power Plant: 1 Model 4CC M/AM reactor; 8 Class-5 microfusion reactors; 10-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Performance: Warp 7 (sustained); 9,500 km/s² (full impulse in 7.8 seconds)

Armament: None

Defenses: Regenerative shields (185,400 terajoules); Polarizing reactive armor (2 centimeters)

The Captain’s Yacht is a lavish transport vessel, used for ferrying diplomats or other high-position figures about. The yacht is equipped with a compartment that can be converted to executive quarters or a stateroom for high-profile guests. It is the only completely unarmed craft on board, giving it a much more peaceful feeling to it. Its sole defense is its very powerful shield system. The Enterprise ’s yacht is named the Magnus , named after one of the alternate names of the Roman general Pompey the Great.

Mississippi Class Runabout

The runabout looks like a miniature version of the starship Defiant with a cockpit at the front. The nose is somewhat pointed, and the wings are wide with deep cowlings to protect the warp nacelles.

Type: Multipurpose light interstellar transport

Dimensions: Length, 19.0 meters; Beam, 10.0 meters; Draft, 5.5 meters

Mass: 147.5 metric tonnes (unloaded, 190 mT loaded)

Accomodation: 2 flight crew, 30 passengers

Power Plant: 1 Model 5CC M/AM reactor; 10 Class-5 microfusion reactors; 9-liter Sarium Krellide fuel cell

Armament: 5 Type-7 phaser arrays, 4 Type-7p pulse phaser cannons, 3 microtorpedo launchers

Defenses: Regenerative shields (168,600 terajoules); Polarizing reactive armor (1.5 centimeters)

The Mississippi -class runabout is the latest in the line of runabouts, outperforming both the previous Nile and the Danube classes. These are starships in their own right, carrying their own NCC registration numbers. The Phoenix Class carries a single runabout in the bay opposite the Captain’s Yacht. The Enterprise carries the runabout USS Rubicon , NCC-88544.

5.6: Mission-Specific Omni Pods

The latest small craft in Starfleet come with special modular external hardpoints capable of supporting a wide variety of equipment depending on the nature of the mission. The Type-25 and -26 both have a single hardpoint on the dorsal surface, the Type-20 has a pair of small hardpoints on its wing stubs, and the Mississippi -class Runabout has a hardpoint on the dorsal surface as well as a removable internal cabin module. Certain pods are available for only certain types of craft, and are noted as such.

  • Weapons pod A: 2 Microtorpedo launchers, 200 microtorpedoes shared magazine (not available to Type 20 Shuttlepod)
  • Weapons pod B: 1 Type 8 Phaser (not available to Type 20 Shuttlepod or Type 25 Shuttle)
  • Weapons pod C: 1 Mark VI Capital torpedo launcher, 8 torpedo magazine (available to runabout only)
  • Weapons Pod D: 2 rack-fired microtorpedo launchers, 50 microtorpedo magazine each (Available to Type 20 only)

USS Voyager

uss voyager armor

A legend on par with the USS Enterprise, the USS Voyager embodies the phrase “Where no man has gone before.” Shortly after its launch, the USS Voyager was cast over 70,000 light years away from home into the Delta Quadrant, unwillingly becoming the first Federation vessel to successfully traverse the Delta Quadrant and make numerous first contacts. During its seven-year journey, this ship became more than a research vessel - it became a home for its diverse and skilled crew. Apart from the emotional value, the USS Voyager is one of the most technologically advanced ships in the Federation fleet, including the upgraded sensor equipment and the capability of reaching a cruise velocity of warp factor 9.975, making it one of the most suitable ships for the exploration of the Galaxy.

Embark on a thrilling adventure, collect Artifacts, and uncover the hidden wonders of the Delta Quadrant by building the USS Voyager. Let your journey unfold as you delve into uncharted territories and rise as a legendary explorer.

How can you add the USS Voyager to your fleet?

To acquire blueprints for the USS Voyager, you need to reach Operations Level 30 and defeat Hirogen hostiles in the Delta Quadrant. Collect Hirogen Relics as spoils of victory, and refine them in the Voyager refinery. Once you reach Operations Level 34 and have gathered all the blueprints, you can build the USS Voyager.

The USS Voyager enables you to acquire Isolytic damage Artifacts and ship parts for various vessels, including the Cerritos, Amalgam, G4 ships, and more.

Advanced Sensors (active) uncover hidden hostiles in the Delta Quadrant, such as the elusive Species 8472. This state has a cost, Deuterium Canister, duration, and cooldown.

Astometrics Scan (active) scans a player's ship and reveals the location of their station. This state has a cost, Deuterium Canister, duration, and cooldown.

Deuterium Canister can be found after refining Hirogen Relics in the USS Voyager Refinery. Hirogen Relics can be found in the Delta Quadrant systems on Hirogen Hostiles.

How to upgrade it?

To upgrade the USS Voyager, you need to refine Exotic Biotoxins and Anomaly Samples . These valuable materials need to be refined in the Voyager refinery, harnessing their true power to enhance the starship's capabilities.

Exotic Biotoxins can be acquired from Species 8472 Bioships in the Velixys system, while Anomaly samples can be mined from systems such as FSEP-505, FSEP-3819, FSEP-247, and FSEP-001.

Important note : Species 8472 Bioships are elusive and can only be spotted while using Advanced Sensors.

USS Voyager research nodes will further enhance not only the ship itself but also provide fleetwide buffs. From the Below Deck Assembly (unlocks Below Deck slots in officer presets), to the Artifact Hunting Extraordinaire (adds a bonus roll of Artifact rewards in the common and rare Anomaly Sample refinery), Dismantle Tinkering (increases base scrapping speed for all ships), and Ship Maintenance Efficiency (increases the base cost efficiency for repairing all ships); these nodes are an invaluable addition to your buffs.

Celebrating The Ships of The Line: The USS Prometheus

uss voyager armor

The USS Prometheus NX-59650 was the second ship to bear the name Prometheus and, when she was launched from the Beta Antares Ship Yards in 2373, was Starfleet's fastest vessel -- with a warp factor of 9.99. An experimental prototype -- and dedicated warship -- created for deep space tactical assignments, the Prometheus was equipped with regenerative shields, multi-vector assault mode and ablative hull armor. The ship was also equipped with holographic projectors on every deck, allowing its EMH Mark II unimpeded movement throughout the ship.

uss voyager armor

Romulans hijacked the Prometheus in 2374. It was during this time that the USS Voyager, then stuck in the Delta Quadrant, sent a subspace transmission that was received by the Prometheus. In it was hidden Voyager's EMH, who pretended to be the EMH of the Prometheus and insisted he was a neutral figure in the Starfleet-Romulan conflict occurring aboard the Prometheus. The Voyager's EMH, a Mark I better known as The Doctor, activated the Prometheus' EMH, a newer Mark II. After putting aside their petty differences, the two EMH's proceeded to reclaim control of the ship by utilizing a neurozine gas to knock out the 27 Romulan hijackers. Once back on Voyager, The Doctor informed Captain Janeway that he told Starfleet of Voyager's situation and, as a result, Starfleet -- which long believed Voyager to be lost for good -- redoubled its efforts to locate Voyager. StarTrek.com 's look at the USS Prometheus NX-59650 continues our ongoing celebration of the Ships of the Line, which will carry on from now until the end of the year. The latest in the bestselling Ships of the Line calendar series is available now; visit www.Amazon.com to purchase the 2015 Ships of the Line calendar.

Screen Rant

Voyager finally becomes star trek’s most powerful ship in prodigy season 2.

Star Trek's Voyager wasn't fully prepared for the long haul through the Delta Quadrant. Prodigy's powerful new Voyager-A won't be taking any chances.

  • The debut of the Lamarr-class starship in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 makes the USS Voyager-A the most powerful ship in the Starfleet armada.
  • Janeway's new Voyager is larger and more powerful than its predecessor, with the latest technology for a difficult mission.
  • The USS Voyager-A could potentially become Starfleet's interim flagship, and its fate after Prodigy season 2 remains uncertain.

The debut of the brand-new Lamarr-class starship in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 makes the USS Voyager-A the most powerful ship in the Starfleet armada. Unveiled in an exclusive clip that premiered at STLV: 57-Year Mission, Star Trek: Voyager 's EMH Doctor (Robert Picardo) introduced the young cast of Prodigy to their new starship. Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) will command the new Voyager on a rescue mission to save Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) from an alternate future, confirming Prodigy 's status as a fully-fledged sequel to Star Trek: Voyager .

Janeway's new Voyager is considerably larger, and more powerful than its predecessor. When it was launched in 2371, the original USS Voyager was top-of-the-line, fitted with innovative new bio-neural circuity which vastly improved computer processing speeds. However, the Inteprid-class was never designed to be as powerful as the Galaxy-class Federation flagship, the USS Enterprise-D, which was destroyed over Veridian III in the same year. In Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, however, it appears that the USS Voyager-A is specifically designed to be hugely powerful as it's fitted " stem to stern " with the latest technology for the difficult mission ahead.

Voyager-A Becomes Starfleet’s Most Powerful Ship In Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

The original USS Voyager was never designed for the long-haul deep-space exploration mission that it accidentally found itself conducting. It's clear from the first glimpse of the new Voyager in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 that Admiral Janeway is preparing for every eventuality. The USS Voyager-A will be one of the few starships not to be involved with the large-scale evacuation of Romulus currently being overseen by Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). That evacuation mission will soon be abandoned when the synthetic workers at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards rise up to launch their Attack on Mars. This devastating event leads to considerable loss of life and Starfleet resources, which could leave the USS Voyager-A as Starfleet's most powerful ship.

Historically, the USS Enterprise was kept out of the Klingon War to protect the flagship and ensure that Starfleet's best and brightest would survive. The same could end up being true of the USS Voyager-A, explicitly ordered not to come to the aid of Mars when the attack begins. As Captain Worf's Enterprise-E disaster is also due to happen at some point during Star Trek: Prodigy 's timeline, Admiral Janeway could end up commanding the Federation's interim flagship while construction gets underway on the USS Enterprise-F.

What Happens To Voyager-A After Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

Star Trek: Picard season 3 revealed that the USS Voyager-B resembled the smaller design of the original Intrepid-class Voyager. The Voyager-B was in operation in 2401, which is 16 years after the events of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. The original USS Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series was in service for roughly 40 years, albeit with several refits. The considerably shorter lifespan of the USS Voyager-A does suggest that its mission to rescue Chakotay leaves it battered and bruised beyond repair. Or worse still, that it remains lost in the temporal anomaly for long enough to be replaced by the Voyager-B.

It's unclear from the investigation by Admiral Janeway's Star Trek: Picard stalker , Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) when the USS Voyager-B actually launched. If it followed a similar pattern to its predecessor, then it would have launched five years after the USS Voyager-A was decommissioned. That gives Admiral Janeway and the crew of Star Trek: Prodigy a maximum of 11 years of adventuring aboard the USS Voyager-A, unless the alternate future and the villainous Vau N'Kat have other ideas.
