How to use Adaptive Cruise Control on VW Tiguan

Adaptive Cruise Control on Volkswagen Tiguan helps maintain an individually stored constant speed between about 20 miles per hour and 95 miles per hour at a previously set distance in time intervals between your vehicle and those in front of you.

To switch on adaptive cruise control, press the on/off button on your steering wheel, the system is now active but no speed is set. To save the current speed when the vehicle is moving, press the SET button.

The set speed appears in the instrument cluster and the adaptive cruise control system begins regulating the speed to help automatically maintain a comfortable following distance to a vehicle in front.

Adjusting distance / gap

The adaptive cruise control system helps maintain the following distance by determining a time interval, resulting in a speed dependent distance. When adaptive cruise control is active, the following distance to the vehicle in front can be adjusted to one of five positions by pressing the adaptive distance button on the steering wheel.

The distance intervals can also be set using the plus or minus buttons immediately after pressing the adaptive distance button.

When a slower moving vehicle directly ahead is detected, adaptive cruise control automatically slows down and helps maintain the distance that has been set. Once the slower vehicle moves out of the way, the system adjusts back to the set speed.

Stop and Go

If the vehicle traveling ahead brakes to a standstill, adaptive cruise control will also brake your vehicle to a standstill. The driver assist system holds your vehicle stationary with the brakes and adaptive cruise control staying active. To drive off after being stationary briefly, press the accelerator, adaptive cruise control will resume speed regulation as long as the vehicle in front is moving again.

Deactivate and resume ACC

To deactivate cruise briefly press the cruise on/off button on the steering wheel, or press the brake pedal. To resume the previously set speed, press the resume button RES .

To increase the speed by one mile per hour, briefly press the plus button or press and hold to increase the set speed in increments of five miles per hour. Press the minus button briefly to reduce speed by one mile per hour, or press and hold to reduce the set speed in increments of five miles per hour.

In addition to the functions of a traditional cruise control system, adaptive cruise control can help speed up or slow down your car to keep a comfortable following distance to the car ahead.

2017 Tiguan Limited - Cruise Control Addition

Hi Ross-Tech Forum Members: I have a 2017 NAR Tiguan S Limited with a factory installed 5K0-953-569-AJ clock spring. I ordered a turn signal stalk with Cruise Control and installed it. I coded the 5K0-953-569-AJ for Cruise Control (which it supports, based on the Steering Wheel Modules table here - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/inde...ntrol_Module_Versions#Part_Number_5K0-953-569 ). The Steering Wheel module accepted the coding fine. I then coded the Engine module with the Cruise Control function and it too accepted that coding just fine. Initially, I assumed this would be all I needed to do - since all the functionality for the Cruise Control function should already be included with various electronic modules installed on the car... That was a bad on me for not doing more research upfront, but I have since read more on the Wiki Ross-Tech forum and I understand there may be a wiring component needed for this - from the Steering Wheel Module to the ECU . Though there is mentioning of newer Tiguans potentially not needing this wire anymore, I believe my car does because even after successfully coding both modules mentioned above, the Cruise Control function still does not work. Searching the web, I also found a Cruise Control retrofitting kit for the Tiguan Limited vehicles, which appears to include a wire. It is the 5K0-054-690-E kit. I have extra VW repair wires from other retrofits and upgrade projects, so I'm good there, but can't seem to find any notes or direction on the wiring diagram for this retrofit - I can't even seem to locate a basic wiring diagram for the ECU , or the pinout for the Steering Wheel Module plug. On the latter, Wiki Ross-Tech does indicate using Pin-5 (For Steering Wheel Control Module P/N 5K0-953-549-* and 5K0-953-569-* check Connector/Pin T16/5), so I think I'm good there... Does anyone here have a link to the ECU wiring diagram for the 2nd Gen Tiguan ( NAR MY-2012 - 2018)? Or, any thoughts on the retrofit process? Please let me know, and I appreciate any suggestions or feedback. Thank you. Vic P.S. You mentioned the original (5K0-953-569-AJ) accepted coding for CCS but it didn't work. We have that marked as Yes in the CCS column so I would be tempted to reinstall that module so further troubleshooting can be completed. I realize you activated coding in both 01 and 16 at that time so I have to wonder if the stalk could be faulty .. or if VW didn't run the GRA (i.e. CCS ) wire from address 16 to 01 in the factory harness per your thoughts. You can connect to address 16 (preferably with the factory unit installed) and check Adv Measuring Values such as: [*MAS00125-IDE00355*] Cruise control system - Cruise Control System ( CCS ): status [*MAS00125-IDE00356*]Cruise control system - Cruise Control System ( CCS ): switch position [*MAS00125-MAS00080*] Cruise control system - Coding information [*MAS00125-MAS00320*] Cruise control system - Main switch [*MAS00125-MAS00323*] Cruise control system - Decelerate tap [*MAS00125-MAS00324*] Cruise control system - Accelerate tap [*MAS00125-MAS00325*] Cruise control system - Setting [*MAS00125-MAS00326*] Cruise control system - Activation [*MAS00125-MAS02309*] Cruise control system - Accelerate [*MAS00125-MAS02310*] Cruise control system - Decelerate [*MAS00125-MAS02321*] Cruise control system - Cancel .. to see if all switch inputs work properly at the master 16 module. Depending on those results I'd move onto checking in address 01 as per MVB 066: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/inde...hecking_Cruise_Control_using_Measuring_Blocks If you have proper switching in 16 but not 01 then the missing GRA wire is the most likely explanation IMO . In that case NAR erWin should be helpful for obtaining the wiring diagrams: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Official_Factory_Repair_Information I'll report back I easily can locate the ECM terminal for you.  

Well, they decided labeling the wire function was unnecessary (so don't bother searching for GRA ) but that's gotta be T94/45 on a black/white trace wire. It should originate at T16l/5 on the SWCM side using the same color scheme (if your wire is present).  

Hi Dana: Thank you for the follow-up and feedback. I do have the original 5K0 953 569 AJ module installed at the moment and when I get home from work I will attempt to check the Adv Measuring Values you suggested and see what I get - I don't have a lot of practice using Adv Measuring Values blocks (only done it a couple of times in the past), but hopefully I'll muddle my way thru it. I think this approach makes a lot of sense, and if I do see the button presses properly acknowledged in module 16, I'll take apart the steering column and check if any wire is present at T16l/5. This points me in the right direction for next steps and I'll report back with my findings. Thanks again. Vic  

Dana: I was able to run the Adv Measuring Values you suggested last night (only on the SWCM at this time), and it looks like the buttons on the turn signal stalk are working. The following values reported activity when I pressed the different Cruise Control related buttons: - Cruise control system-Cruise Cruise Control System - On/Off - Cruise control system-Decelerate tap - activated/not activated - Cruise control system-Accelerate tap - activated/not activated - Cruise control system-Cancel - activated/not activated My wife got home pretty late last night, so I wasn't able to take apart the steering column (after running the VCDS tests), but at this point I expect to find that cable missing between the Engine Module. I'll dig into it more hopefully later today and report back. However, if I need to run and install the missing cable I want to confirm what module I need to connect the other end: one end goes to the SWCM, but does the other go to the ECU in the engine compartment, or the BCM under the dashboard? I believe it is the former, but wondering if you could verify this. Separately, my ultimate goal is activate the MFSW I installed on the Tiggy (along with Cruis Control), and as I mentioned in my other post I previously mistakenly ordered a Highline SWCM but without the Steering Angle Sensor - 5K0-953-569-BD I am looking to order another Highline SWCM, but was trying to stay away from the "AL" variant given the troubles reported by the Body Shop in the other post - unless you think it should be okay for my application... Anyway, I found two other Highline SWCM modules that "should" work a 5K0-953-569-T and 5K0-953-569-AS. The "T" model is less expensive than the "AS", but it is not listed in your chart. Based on some web searches I saw some note stating that the "AS" is the replacement of the "T" model. Do you know if this is accurate? Thank you for your help with this - as always, your assistance and feedback on all VAG / VCDS matters is spot on and greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I have gone thru a couple of parts since my last post, and I am at a loss right now as to the outcome.... First, I was able to get Cruise Control to work just fine with the original SWCM 5K0 953 569 AJ part. It was odd how it got to work - I looked at the T16l/5 to verify whether or not the Cruise Control wire was in fact present and confirmed it was. I then ran Advanced Measuring Values on the Engine module (to see if the Cruise Control signal make it there), and they did. As soon as I confirmed that, I noticed the Cruise On/Off functionality was now toggling in the dashboard... This was super odd to me as I didn't really do anything new (wiring wise or coding wise), and the function started working after running Advanced Measuring Values??!! This was good news and we actually took the car for a trip and the CCS worked great. However, as I mentioned previously I had installed a MFSW from a MK6 GTI and really want to get the buttons to work. So, I ordered a Highline SWCM that I thought would be compatible with the car: 5K0-953-569-AS. It turns out this module is completely incompatible with the Tiguan, as it didn't work at all: with it installed I could not even turn on the ignition. The car simply did not recognize the key was inserted in the ignition switch and/or turned. So, I went back to the drawing board and ordered a 5K0-953-569-AL module. I know there is the horror story reported on the forum (which Dana previously linked me to), but ultimately the tech fixed the issue by false-coding CCS active. I figured since my car now actually has all the CCS parts it needs and I would code that feature on anyway, I would be safe... The 5K0-953-569-AL came in and I installed it. Lots of errors initially (it came pre-coded for Adaptive-Cruise), so it reported a host of parts missing/unreachable. Anyway, after some initial coding, I was able to get CCS to work, all the Steering Wheel Menu + Audio buttons to work, and even the Paddle switches for the transmission. On that front, I was exactly where I needed to be, BUT.... I could not clear (2) significant Error Codes: Steering Wheel Angle Sensor and TPMS . No matter what I did, these Errors kept coming back up and the orange "steering Wheel" icon stays lit in the dashboard and the TPMS cannot be reset - using the Steering Wheel controls and the MFD, I go thru the process of setting TPMS and it goes thru all the steps, but at the end it comes back with " TPMS Could not be set". Also, when I start the car, I get a notification in the MFD that "Tyre Pressue Monitoring System Is Not Available". This completely surprised me as I know this car just uses the ABS sensors and system to to monitor tire pressure based on rotational data, so why would a new SWCM impact something to do with the ABS module??? As for the Steering Angle, the 5K0-953-569-AL is listed in our chart to have Steering Angle Sensor included, so again this is confusing to me... If I read the Error notes it mentions "Basic Calibration Missing", so I took the car for a spin and turned the wheel left/right multiple times to calibrate it - I thought that is what this error meant, akin to what happens when the battery is disconnected for a while... Given the outcome of using the 5K0-953-569-AL module, I webt back and re-installed my original SWCM module 5K0-953-569-AJ, so the car goes back to normal, until I can figure out what is going on with 5K0-953-569-AL. As expected, the TPMS went back to working again, but to my surprise, the Steering Angle Sensor error is still active and if I clear it, it keeps coming back???!!! I made no coding changes to any of the other modules (except 5K0-953-569-AS), so when I switched back to 5K0-953-569-AJ I expected the error would clear... It did not occur to me to check Advanced Measuring Values for the Steering Angle Sensor while I had the 5K0-953-569-AL installed, but I did that with the 5K0-953-569-AJ installed and Steering Angle Sensor (G85) is stuck on -0.57 Degree value, irrespective of what position the actual steering wheel is at. Did I break something in the process of swapping out these modules? What could that be? I was very careful in handling the parts and connections, and made sure the clockspring did not turn from the "0" position as I installed the modules. Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts and suggestions. I'd like to fix the 5K0-953-569-AJ for now, but ultimately would like to make the 5K0-953-569-AL module work, so that the MFSW functions. Thank you Mari and PetrolDave - that seems pretty straight-forward, and I will be sure to insert future scans in this manner. Back to my challenge, I did some more reading on Ross-Tech Wiki , and found the correct procedure to re-calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor. After performing the calibration steps, the Steering Angle Sensor cleared, with my original 5K0-953-569-AJ SWCM. So, the car is back to fully functioning state - thanks, Ross-Tech Wiki contributors. However, my ultimate goal is still to make my MFSW work, so emboldened by this success, I took the steering wheel/column apart again and replaced the 5K0-953-569-AJ with the 5K0-953-569-AL. No matter what I try, I cannot seem to be able to reset the Steering Angle Sensor. The error associated with the Steering Angle not being calibrated shows up in several controllers: 16-Steering Control, 03- ABS Brakes (where TPMS is reported with an error), 44-Steering Assist (where I have additional errors like Steering Limit Stop and Steering Assistance Operation). I try to clear the errors in 03 an 44 controllers, but they come back right away, and as I mentioned going thru the Steering Angle Sensor calibration does not fix anything... Using Adv Meas Values in 16-Steering Wheel, it looks like the Steering Angle Sensor is actually detected and when turning the clock spring I can see the angle values change from within calibration permissible range to outside permissible range. I tried the various calibration options under 16-Steering Wheel Basic Settings, but to no avail. For all of them (Carry Out Zero Calibration and Reset Zero Calibration), I get an ERROR message stating Incorrect message length or invalid format... In 44-Steering Assist, if I go to the Adv Meas Values, the Sensor Angle is stuck on 2.32 degrees and does not change when turning the Clock Spring - see screen shot below It also reports Basic Setting - Not Performed which makes sense, but can't see m to figure out how to successfully carry out this calibration... In 03- ABS Brakes, the Adv Meas Values returns some interesting info (to me at least): the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) is reporting as NOT being Initialized... Id this to be expected, or is there some setting in one of the controllers that I have to initiate/enable? I am hoping someone on this forum has some insight on this current situation and can help - that would be greatly appreciated. As a last comment, I mentioned before that the 5K0-953-569-AL, did properly code for the MFSW , and with it installed all MFSW buttons work (including the paddle shifters, as well as Cruise Control). At first, I thought the Steering Angle Sensor in the module I received nay be defective, but based on the Adv Meas Values returned in 16-Steering Wheel, the sensor properly communicates the change in angle... I am also thinking that the 5K0-953-569-AL module may not be compatible with my vehicle, but going back to the tech whom had trouble installing a "AL" module in a crashed 2017 Tiguan Limited, I have to believe the module is compatible - his problem was ultimately coding for the Cruise Control, but all else worked fine and did not give him any trouble... Ross-Tech Forum Members: I wanted to close the loop on this retrofit thread with the final status on my quest. This weekend, I took some time and did some more forum and Google reading and was able to finally get the 5K0-953-569-AL module to work 100% in my wife's MY-2017 Tiguan Limited. After going thru the process of initializing the Steering Angle Sensor (via the Basic Settings in the 16-Steering Wheel – have to use the appropriate Security code), I was then able to Calibrate the Steering Angle Sensor by locking the steering wheel left/right then wait for the multi-beep confirmation at each end. Once this was done, the TPMS , ESP and Orange Steering Wheel notification lights went out. I was able to further clear all related Error Codes in 03- ABS Brakes, 16-Steering Wheel and 44-Steering Assist modules – and the Errors did not return. As I previously mentioned, I was able to code the 5K0-953-569-AL to properly allow full functionality of the GTI MFSW buttons (including the paddle shifters). The Cruise Control function (which I previously enabled with 5K0-953-569-AJ module), also coded well with 5K0-953-569-AL module and the new wiper stalk (with CCS buttons), works great. Again, at the end of the day, all the retrofitted parts and features work 100% and I am very happy with the results. So just in case you might want to update Wiki Ross-Tech, even though “Mils83” had so much trouble with the 5K0-953-569-AL in the Tiguan Limited he was working on, it seems this module is fully compatible with these last run of the old body style Tiguans, especially if the supporting hardware is installed. retro fit cruise control

Hi Just registered and was wondering if anyone knows the best bit to purchase a cruise control to fit a 2012 tiguan sport 170 which I am collecting soon , I would get it fitted at the dealers but just fancy seeing if I can get it cheaper . Thanks

Finally had my dealer on the phone advising all parts required; the CC stalk, control box and additional harness are now in their possession; car booked in for fitting early March (1st available mid week day off).I will again confirm that it's still FOC before travel, and what the overall cost of parts and labour would be for other 2011 owners wishing to have fitted.  

I had the fog lamps and cruise control fitted at home today by the "Hazzy Dayz" company.Took about 21/2 hours to do both even though it was fine drizzeling. Very impressed with the lads competance and ability. Highly recommended. Regards, 9SQ  

At last, cruise control retro fitted and fully functional. Was advised it would take about 3 hours. Car left at dealer whilst out shopping; 4 hours later, phone call to say it's going to be another few hours/issues with coding, only problem is school collection 40 miles away did not allow any more waiting time. Given courtesy car/2 hours later, all functional, multi communications with Germany, as original coding would allow ECU to see control module and CC stalk, just no communication between them to allow CC to work. Previous GTI was fitted with CC at same dealer/no problems 2 years earlier. (57 plate) Dealer did say that our Tig was the 1st of the 2011 models with CC retro fitted, lessons learned on ours will prevent any further fitment issues as they had several more awaiting booking to have CC fitted. At least as agreed, between garage and VW customer care did share the additional cost, over and above what the dealer agreed to fit FOC as part of purchase of . All's well that ends well.  

Glad you've got the CC sorted now Brian. Like FB says, I'm sure you will notice a difference in fuel consumption, when used regularly.  

Did notice a slight improvement on the return motorway 37 miles, more relaxing especially on inclines after fitting.Most of my wife's journeys is local, 3 - 6 miles with mostly 30/40 limits.When fitted to my last car, I tended to use CC nearly every other road chance possible, if only to try and get better MPG. I did a VCDS scan before and after; never noticed any link or option reference CC within the engine module, but have never had the time to compare like for like yet.  

I got quoted £380 for cruise and fitting at dealers Any one had any cheaper ?  

Unfortunatly, I forgot to ask upon collection of our Tig, what the total cost of parts and labour would be for retro-fit cruise control. I can confirm that the box supplied with my original stalk/slip ring assembly is for latest vehicles, and given little coding issues experienced by my dealer on their first fitment of the new kit, I am very glad that I choose them rather than a small local company. The job file paperwork was like war and peace, with all the to's and fro's reference communication coding from them to Germany. This is the very reason I would travel nearly 40 miles each way for excellent service and trustworthy workmanship. They may all be main VW dealers, but there are good ones, and not so good ones.  

5K0 054 691A is the part number you would require for a 2011 model year onwards cruise control after-market fitment. Both stalks are combined in one unit along with a new control module, hence the higher than original cost of replacing one LH stalk, as well in my case some issues in coding. A friend with a Scirricco was quoted about £485 to have CC fitted; Mine, as stated before was FOC as included within the orininal sale agreement.  

As most of the discussions in this thread are historic based on 2012 and earlier models, can any members advise me on the latest posion on having Cruise Control retro-fitted to 2013 model Tigs ? (my vehicle is a July 2013 SE) Thanks Richard

I also want CC fitted to my 2013 DSG. My days of car DIY are now confined to basics such as tyres, fuel, oil and washer bottle. So I'm waiting for the dealer to be able to get the parts from VW. I do find it amazing that they still cannot supply the correct parts. Surely if they can supply it as a factory option, the parts must be available?!  

What I can't believe is that they're even making any Tigs without cruse !! it's such a basic thing now. You can't buy a Tig in NZ without it as far as I know !! Cheers

VW do seem to have an issue with dealer fit Cruise Control. Prior to our Tig we had 3 Sciroccos. The first came with CC so naturally we wanted CC on the next two. The dealers demonstrator we bought did not have CC so we paid for a retro-fit, which strangely was a lower cost than the factory fit option. Problem was, the software for the 2011 Scirocco had not been signed off /approved by VW. We waited ages but eventually it was fitted (for £225). Then in 2012 we traded the car for another new Scirocco. Again, we bought a dealers demo car and again no CC. And again, not available due to software (apparently). Never did get CC fitted to that car. In 2013 we switched to a Tiguan - and this time ordered our own spec from the factory with Lane Assist which comes with CC. As previous poster (GeoffH) has said, why do VW have such an issue with the after market fitting - and yet HazzyDayz seem to manage to do the job.

There seems to be a lot of information for 2011 and later, but very little for earlier Tigs. I'm a workshop manager/fitter for a haulage company, and have Texa diagnostic equipment so should be able to do the coding my self, but can't find any guides for the early Tigs. I've read that there is a kit available, and this kit comes with instructions, is this the case? If so does anybody have the correct part number please? Do the pre 2011 cars require just the stalk, or may they require the steering angle sensor ecu as well, or is that just the later cars? My local VW dealer quoted around £230 to fit, not sure if that included vat, and the parts department quoted £64+vat for the stalk, not sure if that was the kit - I'll check on Monday. I know companies like Hazydays can fit for £150, but I'm in the very south east of England, so not in their area. We're off on holiday in two weeks time, and I'll love to have it fitted for then.  

My local VW dealer supplied, fitted and coded CC for £192 just over a year ago. It might be worth while trying another dealer. The part No. on the invoice is 1K0054690B. My tig is an early 2010 SE Hope this helps.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
