Disney Cruise 2024: Sail Dates, Itineraries, and Ports

UPDATED Sept 5, 2023: This article has been updated to add 2024 cruises on the Disney Treasure cruise ship, which is scheduled to begin sailing in late December 2024.

If you’re dreaming of a Disney Cruise 2024, you’ll need to know where the ships are and where they’re going. Although there are plenty of Disney Cruises in 2024, not every itinerary is offered at every port during every month of the year. And once you throw school vacations and time off work into the mix — not to mention the complexities of multiple cruise ships and countless itineraries — it can be tricky to figure out just which cruise to select.

With that in mind, we offer this handy reference guide. We’ll start with a brief glance at where all of the Disney Cruise Ships will be located throughout the year. Then, we’ll go in-depth for each month so you can see exactly which sail dates are being offered for each itinerary.

Where Will the Disney Cruise Line Ships Be In 2024?

Here’s a quick overview at what’s planned so far. To see specific cruise itineraries and sail dates, look at the monthly entries further down this page.

Disney Dream

The Disney Dream cruise ship spends the first half of 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , continuing the string of Caribbean Cruises it had begun offering from there in November 2023.

In May, the ship heads out on a Transatlantic voyage that positions it in Europe for the summer travel season.

The Dream will offer a series of European itineraries that sail out of Barcelona, Spain and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy from early May through late July — and from Southampton, England from late July through mid-September.

Disney Dream sailings between mid-September and mid-October are not yet released , but it’s likely the ship will remain in Europe during that timeframe.

Following a Transatlantic voyage in late-October, the ship returns to Fort Lauderdale in November and offers Bahamian and Caribbean cruises for the remainder of the year.

Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy will be based out of Port Canaveral, Florida throughout 2024.

From early 2024 through the end of September, the Fantasy primarily offers Caribbean cruises. From October onward, the ship adds in a number of Bahamas sailings including Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Disney Magic

The Disney Magic cruise ship rings in the new year in Galveston, Texas , continuing the series of Caribbean cruises it had begun a few weeks earlier.

In February, it briefly relocates to New Orleans, Louisiana for a month of Caribbean cruises out of that port before returning to Galveston in March.

The Caribbean cruises continue from Galveston through mid-April, when the ship relocates to San Juan, Puerto Rico .

The San Juan Caribbean cruises run through mid-May, when the ship relocates for an extended assignment to Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), Florida .

In Fort Lauderdale, the ship will mainly sail on Bahamian itineraries (featuring Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney’s newest private port), with an occasional Caribbean cruise in the mix.

The Disney Magic briefly returns to San Juan for part of November, then returns to Galveston for the remainder of the year.

Disney Treasure

The brand new Disney Treasure cruise ship just barely squeaks into 2024’s sailing schedule; the ship’s 7-night Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida start in late December.

Disney Wish

The Disney Wish has the simplest of all sailing schedules.

The ship will be based in Port Canaveral , Florida throughout all of 2024, sailing on 3- and 4-Night Bahamian Cruises.

Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder cruise ship starts 2024 in the southern hemisphere, continuing the inaugural season of Disney’s Australia and New Zealand cruises which began in October 2023. These cruises sail out of Sydney, Australia and Melbourne, Australia in January and early February.

Starting in mid-February, the ship goes on a series of one-way cruises that take it to Honolulu, Hawaii , followed by Vancouver, Canada, and finally to San Diego, California .

Once the ship arrives in San Diego in mid-March, it begins a string of Baja cruises that last through early May.

The ship then returns to Vancouver to begin the 2024 Alaska Cruise season, which lasts through late September.

From there, a series of one-way cruises take the ship back to Honolulu and then to Brisbane, Australia to start another series of Australia and New Zealand cruises for the remainder of the year and into early 2025 (sailing out of Brisbane, Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne ).

Feeling Overwhelmed? Get Free Help.

With five ships and hundreds of sail dates to choose from, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with all the choices. One of the easiest ways to cut through the confusion is to work alongside an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner . Put simply, they’re Disney Cruise experts who offer free help planning your trip .

In our view, there’s no better choice than our official travel partner, The Vacationeer . Why ? Here are a few reasons:

  • No Extra Fees: It’s completely free to use their planning services and your cruise won’t cost a penny more than if you’d booked it yourself (it might even cost less!)
  • One Dedicated Agent: No giant call centers, no hours wasted waiting on hold, no getting transferred a dozen times and explaining your situation over and over to new people each time
  • The Best Prices: Your Vacationeer knows all the Disney Cruise discounts and deals so they know how to save money on your cruise . They’ll even watch for new discounts to be announced after you’ve booked! And most importantly, they’ll respect your budget.
  • Free Spending Money: Yes, really. Book with The Vacationeer and you’ll get an Onboard Credit of up to $1,000 that can be used towards onboard purchases that aren’t already included in your cruise fare — things like excursions, alcohol, souvenirs, gratuities, and specialty dining.

With all those benefits, why wouldn’t you count on them to book your trip and make your Disney Cruise dreams come true?

When Does Disney Release Its 2024 Cruises?

Disney Cruises are typically released in three phases throughout the year.

The first phase of sail dates, covering travel from the beginning of the year through Spring 2024, was announced in December 2022.

The second phase of sail dates, covering travel for Summer 2024 and early Fall 2024, was announced in March 2023.

The third phase of sail dates, covering the final months of 2024, was announced in June 2023. Some saildates for the Disney Dream (mid-September through mid-October) were still missing during this announcement, and might possibly indicate a “dry dock” period in which there are no cruises and the ship is essentially “closed for refurbishment.”

There was a special fourth announcement of 2024 sail dates due to the arrival of the new Disney Treasure cruise ship. The ship only has two 2024 sail dates, both in late December; those were announced to the public in September 2023.

When Do Cruises to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point Begin?

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera, Bahamas, is Disney’s newest private destination — and it’s certainly been highly anticipated.

Unlike Disney Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island), Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a private port rather than a private island . Construction has been underway for a few years, and the island is ready to welcome its first Disney Cruise Line guests.

The first cruise scheduled to visit Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a special preview sailing on the Disney Magic. It departs from Fort Lauderdale on June 6, 2024 .

After that, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a frequent stop on Bahamas Cruises from Fort Lauderdale all summer long.

There’s also a special “Lighthouse Point Inaugural Cruise” from Port Canaveral on the Disney Fantasy June 8. 2024 — one of the few chances in Summer 2024 to reach Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point from Port Canaveral rather than Fort Lauderdale. Once fall 2024 rolls around, the port can be regularly reached through sailings from either Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral.

Want to secure your spot on the inaugural season of cruises to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point?

Now let’s take a look at the Disney Cruises setting sail each month of 2024. Below, we’ve listed the first day of each cruise departure currently scheduled to occur in 2024. Dates which show “none” indicate days on which no cruises begin their voyages.

Note that we’ve omitted cruises that aren’t open to the general public, such as short no-passenger relocation voyages or privately-chartered sailings such as the Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise.

What New Disney Cruise Ships Are Being Built?

Nothing out of New York?

walt disney cruise 2024

No, there aren’t any 2024 Disney Cruises from New York . They’ve sometimes skipped New York for a few years in a row, so we don’t know how long it’ll be until it’s back on the schedule. They haven’t released a full 2025 schedule yet, so we don’t yet know if anything will show up for the later months of 2025. Hope that helps!

Interested in booking a cruise for a date or itinerary that hasn’t been announced yet? You can submit a booking request for a Disney cruise, even before Disney Cruise Line releases the schedule. Save yourself some stress and fill out the Small World Vacations Wait List form in advance and they’ll book your preferred cruise the first day you are eligible, at no cost to you! Plus, you can get up to $1000 in FREE onboard credit  courtesy of Small World Vacations! (All staterooms and cruises are subject to availability at the time of booking.)

Disney Cruise Line announces their cruise dates and itineraries for only a few months at a time: January through April, then May through September and finally, September through December. Once the new itineraries come out, booking begins just a day or two later, first to Castaway Club members (people who’ve been on a previous Disney cruise) and then to the general public.

The people who book earliest almost always get the lowest possible price . Sometimes there will be last-minute deals via the restricted guarantee fares or Florida Resident fares , but only a small percentage of cruises ever have those fares, and those fares aren’t always cheaper than opening day fares. In addition, early bookers get first dibs on staterooms, making it the best way to land one of the hardest-to-get staterooms like the Secret Porthole and Secret Verandah rooms. Lots of people know about these advantages, so on the days the new itineraries become available for booking, both the phone lines and website get slammed.

There’s an easy way to avoid the scramble to book on the first day the bookings open:  submit a request to Small World Vacations now. You just need basic information like where you want to go (Caribbean, Alaska, Norway, Europe, etc.), the date range you want, the kind of stateroom you want (inside, outside, verandah) and the names and ages of the people going. Let them know if you are a Castaway Club Member by including your Member Number and Level (Platinum, Gold or Silver). You can add other preferences or priorities as needed – early dining, lower deck, upper deck, not over a nightclub – whatever is important to you.  Their agents will review your request, contact you to confirm they understand your priorities, and then you can relax and let your personal agent book your cruise when the time comes. Your agent will provide their email and direct phone number, so you can discuss your options and preferences.

On the day the itineraries become available for your Castaway Club level, your agent will be up bright and early while you sleep in (or go about your usual day). If Disney releases a cruise that fits your criteria, your agent will typically go ahead and put a hold in place, thus reserving your stateroom(s), then email you with your cruise details and deposit information. You’ll be able to have your choice of room type and location and will lock in the opening day price. If later on you decide to change rooms on the same sailing, Disney will give you the opening day price on the new room , even if the price has gone up in the intervening days or months.

Even if you aren’t 100% sure whether you’re going to be able to go, there’s no real risk in getting a cruise booked early . Disney Cruise Line deposits for any stateroom types other than Concierge are fully refundable up to the Payment In Full date, which is 120-75 days before sailing, depending on the specific cruise and time of year. You have lots of time to figure out whether that cruise will work for you. If it doesn’t, you can get the deposit back or just transfer it to a different sailing date that works better.

The agents who handle cruise bookings for Small World Vacations have collectively sailed on more than 400 Disney cruises, and know a truly astonishing amount about all four ships, the various Disney ports of call, shore excursions and all the common itineraries (and many uncommon ones). Many of them are Platinum members of Disney’s Castaway Club, meaning that they have personally been on 10 or more Disney cruises! They’re happy to share their firsthand experience with the kids’ clubs, dining, character meets, entertainment, transportation, etc. In our experience, the travel agents at Small World Vacations are great at finding the best fares. They know all the tricks that will save you money, and they know the Disney Cruise Line inside and out. We’re confident that once you work with a really great travel agent, you’ll never want to book a cruise any other way. Read more about why we recommend using Small World Vacations to book your cruise!

  • If you are interested in booking a cruise that hasn’t been announced yet , fill out the Small World Vacations Wait List form and get on their Early Booking List!
  • Small World Vacations offers onboard credit of $50-$1000 per booking, good toward most onboard activities and extras such as spa treatments, shore excursions or even your bar tab. Small World Vacations also gives you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number. Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them! On sailings that include July 4th, there is usually a special celebration with characters dressed in red, white and blue outfits. There has not been a special fireworks show in the past, but sometimes on sailings in the Caribbean or Bahamas they move pirate night to July 4th so they will have fireworks on Independence Day. (There is no pirate night or fireworks on sailings outside the Caribbean and Bahamas.)

During this period there will be special Halloween events onboard, including Halloween-themed parties, storytellings, movies and elaborate décor, including The Pumpkin Tree, which magically transforms throughout the cruise. You will also find characters dressed in Halloween costumes, as well as a costume party for families and, just for adults, a costume contest and a Villainous Takeover on the dance floor in the nighttime entertainment district.

In the past there has not been any special menu for Halloween night itself, over and above what they do on all the Halloween themed cruises during the whole period, but there will be some special Halloween-themed treats.

Halloween on the High Seas takes place on the following sail dates:

  • Disney Dream : (Not yet announced)
  • Disney Fantasy : September 14 – October 26
  • Disney Magic : September 9 – October 31
  • Disney Wish: September 13 – October 28
  • Disney Wonder :  (Not yet announced)

In the past there has been a special menu on Thanksgiving Day, and pictures with Pilgrim Mickey and Minnie. The Christmas decorations will be fully up by Thanksgiving, and there will be a full set of holiday activities and events.

The following sailings include Thanksgiving Day (November 28, 2024).

  • Disney Dream : 5-Night Bahamian on November 27
  • Disney Fantasy : 7-Night Eastern Caribbean on November 23
  • Disney Magic : 6-Night Western Caribbean on November 25
  • Disney Wish: 4-Night Bahamian on November 25
  • Disney Wonder : 5-Night Australian on November 24 ( note: since New Zealand & Australia don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, we don’t know if there will be a Thanksgiving Menu. )

Typically, Christmas decorations will be up from early November through the final New Year’s sailing, and there will be special holiday events during that whole period, including meet and greets with Santa Claus and with Disney characters in special Christmas outfits. Some of the more elaborate Christmas decorations, including a huge, real gingerbread house or other gingerbread decoration, will not be up until later in November.

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, will be transformed with “snow” flurries, a Christmas tree and more. Be on the lookout for Mr. and Mrs. Snowman, dressed in their island attire. Plus, the island’s tram is decorated to resemble a reindeer, complete with antlers and a tail.

Very Merrytime Christmas-themed cruises will be offered on sailings departing between the following dates:

  • Disney Dream: November 14 – December 21
  • Disney Fantasy: November 10 – December 22
  • Disney Magic: November 21 – December 23
  • Disney Wish: November 4 – December 23
  • Disney Wonder:   (Not yet announced)

There are unique special events and a special menu on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The following sailings include Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (December 24-25, 2024).

  • Disney Dream : 5-Night Western Caribbean on December 21
  • Disney Fantasy : 4-Night Bahamian on December 22
  • Disney Magic : 6-Night Western Caribbean on December 23
  • Disney Treasure : 7-Night Eastern Caribbean on December 21
  • Disney Wish:  4-Night Bahamian on December 23
  • Disney Wonder : 4-Night Australian on December 24

There is a special party with countdown and balloon drop on New Year’s Eve.

The following sailings include New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2024).

  • Disney Dream : 5-Night Bahamian on December 30
  • Disney Fantasy : 7-Night Eastern Caribbean on December 29
  • Disney Magic : 4-Night Western Caribbean on December 29
  • Disney Treasure : 7-Night Western Caribbean on December 28
  • Disney Wish:  4-Night Bahamian on December 30
  • Disney Wonder : 6-Night Australian on December 28
  • If you are interested in booking a holiday Disney cruise , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. Pixar Day at Sea

Marvel day at sea, star wars day at sea.

Pixar Day at Sea includes a Pixar film festival; photo opportunities with Pixar characters; a character breakfast with Woody, Jesse and Bullseye; a theatrical performance based on Coco ; a Pixar-themed dinner; a dance party with Pixar characters; and a nighttime spectacular featuring the Incredibles.

Pixar Day at Sea will take place on select Disney Fantasy 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral in early 2024. The Eastern Caribbean cruises are January 6, 20; February 3, 17 and March 2. The Western Caribbean cruises are January 13, 27; February 10 and 24.

Marvel Day at Sea is a special all-day celebration of the Marvel Universe. Special features include multiple Marvel character meet-and-greets, Marvel-themed activities for families, Marvel movie screenings, a costume party, special merchandise and food, and an exclusive Marvel deck party. There is also an adults-only dance party with Star-Lord and Gamora.

Marvel Day at Sea will take place on select Disney Dream 5-night Western Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale on January 7, 12, 21, 26; February 4, 9, 18, 23; March 3 and 8.

Star Wars Day at Sea cruises generally feature a full day of Star Wars celebrations, including a deck party, meet-and-greets with favorite characters, Star Wars -themed youth activities, at-sea screenings of Star Wars films, unique food and beverage offerings, and special merchandise. The night before Star Wars Day at Sea, Darth Vader and Stormtroopers march into the ship’s atrium for an Imperial takeover.

Guests are encouraged to bring their costumes and participate in the costume celebration held in the ship’s atrium. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique offers special makeovers on Star Wars Day at Sea. Kids ages 3-12 can transform into Rey, Kylo Ren, Leia and Poe. Adults and teens, can get a Rey makeover that includes a stylish dress, makeup and hair style or choose from one of four Star Wars-themed T-shirt options. All come with a personalized name tag, lanyard with medallion and magnet set.

No Star Wars Day at Sea dates have been announced for 2024. Star Wars Day at Sea appears to have been replaced with Pixar Day at Sea, but DCL has not made an official announcement one way or the other.

  • If you are interested in booking a themed Disney cruise , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Double Dip Cruises

A “Double Dip” sailing is one that visits Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point twice on the same cruise, or goes to both of them on the same cruise. Many people (including us) feel the day at one of Disney’s private beaches is the highlight of a Bahamian or Caribbean cruise, and this gives you a double dose! Both days follow the typical Castaway Cay & Lighthouse Point schedule: off the ship at 8:30 am (depending on sea conditions), and all aboard at 4:45 pm. The same excursions and activities will be available both days, though if you want to do the same activity or book a cabana for both days, you’ll need to book each day separately. If you are going to Castaway Cay twice, you can run the Castaway Cay 5K twice!

In the rare event that the ship visits Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point two days in a row, the ship will not stay docked overnight. It will leave the island at the usual time on the first day and come back the next morning.

Double Dip cruises scheduled so far for 2024:

  • Disney Dream : March 17
  • Disney Magic : July 1, July 15, July 29, August 12
  • Disney Fantasy : Jun 8 (technically a triple-dip!), July 20, July 25

Repositioning is when a cruise starts in one port and finishes in another. These cruises can be a good deal, as they usually are cheaper per night than conventional round-trip cruises. They also tend to go to more unusual locations. The longest repositioning cruises are the Panama Canal and Transatlantic cruises, which are almost always the cheapest cruises (per night) of the whole year.

Unique cruises have an itinerary that is different from other cruise itineraries that particular ship is sailing around that time. They either visit an unusual location or locations or visit a unique combination of common locations. Repositioning cruises are all unique as well.

  • If you are interested in booking a specialty Disney cruise , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

2024 Adventures by Disney Cruise Packages have not yet been announced.

The Adventures by Disney Cruise Packages include 2 Adventures by Disney guides available onboard and in port; special VIP privileges; private onboard receptions; unique onshore activities; early debarkation at each port; all meals, snacks and water while in port; a photo CD with all ship photographer pictures, all Adventures by Disney guide photos and an Adventures by Disney slideshow.

  • If you are interested in booking an Adventures by Disney Cruise Package , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS they give you FREE onboard credit for any Disney Cruise Line booking of over $1000 total fare, good toward most onboard activities and extras such as spa treatments, shore excursions or even your bar tab.

DVC member cruises are only open to Disney Vacation Club members who have purchased at least some of their vacation points directly from Disney (rather than from another member via resale). Members can use their vacation points to book the cruise or can pay cash rates. Typically DVC cruises are significantly more expensive than similar cruises for the general public, but guests will be given a wide variety of DVC special gifts and will get to experience some exclusive member events including talks by special guests including artists, imagineers and/or actors from classic Disney movies.

Whether the DVC member cruise is worth booking is a personal judgment call. The extra events are difficult or impossible to experience any other way. The various DVC gifts are usually a mix of the usual kinds of tote bags, pens, and so forth you can get by attending a DVC meeting or buying a new DVC contract, plus at least a few special and unique items. Some people love the DVC member cruises and try to go on each one. Others go once and feel it’s not worth the extra money.

Disney Cruise Line has announced two Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member cruises for 2024:

  • May 18: 7-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona on Disney Dream
  • June 14: 5-night “triple dip” Bahamian cruise with two visits to Lighthouse Point and one visit to Castaway Cay on Disney Magic

Adventure by Disney Pre- and Post-Cruise Escape Packages take place before and after select Disney Cruise Line sailings. These 2- to 3-night Escapes include 2 Adventure by Disney guides; hotel accommodations; multiple, daily excursions; special VIP privileges; all transportation during the trip and a photo CD with all the Adventure by Disney guide photos.

  • If you are interested in booking an Adventures by Disney Pre- or Post-Cruise Escape Package , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS you could save up to $1,000!  Read more about the Small World Vacations savings offer here .

Disney Cruise Line is planning ahead, looking at dreamy destinations for 2024 with sailings to the Caribbean, Mexico, and more from several different ports in the United States.

The cruise line, which will open 2024 bookings to the public on Dec. 15, will sail from Florida (including its first full season of sailings from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale), as well as from Texas, Louisiana, and California, the company shared with Travel + Leisure . Each sailing from Florida will also include a stop at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay .

“Tropical destinations, onboard magic, and a variety of fan-favorite itineraries to the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Mexico await Disney Cruise Line guests in early 2024,” Disney wrote in a release shared with T+L, adding “guests of all ages will be able to escape winter with one-of-a-kind magical vacations at sea.”

In Florida, Disney fans will be able to sail the company’s Disney Wish ship from Port Canaveral, heading on three and four-night trips to Nassau and Castaway Cay in the Bahamas . The ship, the company’s newest , features Disney's first-ever attraction at sea along with touches like the Marvel Super Hero Academy, a Frozen -themed dining experience, and trendy cocktails (think: smoke bubbles or edible glitter).

The Disney Fantasy will also sail from Port Canaveral to the eastern and western Caribbean with stops in gorgeous destinations like Tortola and St. Thomas as well as Cozumel , Grand Cayman , and Jamaica .

The Disney Dream will sail from Fort Lauderdale, kicking off its season in early 2024 with cruises to the Bahamas and the western Caribbean.

Disney will also head to south, offering a pair of limited-time engagements on the Disney Magic from Galveston in early 2024. The ship will sail from there in January and then again between March and April.

The Disney Magic will then head to New Orleans , heading out on four, five, and seven-night cruises to the Caribbean.

And on the West Coast, the Disney Wonder will sail three to seven-night trips to Mexico from its port in San Diego , according to the company. The trips will include stops in popular cities like Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta as well as California’s Catalina Island .

Disney Cruise Line’s Summer 2024 Sailings – A Look at Opening Day Prices

The Summer 2024 Disney Cruise Line sailings were announced this week , and it is time to take a closer look at the opening day pricing. Please keep in mind, the pricing information is available for anyone to view, but there is the standard tiered booking for Castaway Club members starting March 27th more popular sailings will have fares increased by the time general booking opens. You must be logged into Disney Cruise Line’s website and make sure your account is properly associated with your Castaway Club ID so that you will be able to take advantage of your Castaway Club level booking day.

DCL Summer 2024 Opening Day Pricing

Below, I’ve collected the opening day pricing, lowest price per stateroom category, based on double occupancy (2 adults) for all of the new Disney Cruise sailings to provide a general idea on where the cruises are priced. I realize this does not take into account onboard booking, or a more detailed quote for your sailing party.

The idea for this post was simply to get baseline pricing for each cruise and I felt 2 adults provided the baseline for double occupancy to help everyone plan for Gold, Silver, and first-time cruisers booking windows. The pricing is grouped by ship and itinerary for more of an apples to apple comparison.

One last note, the pricing below is representative of a snapshot in time on opening day. As cruises book, prices will increase and stateroom availability will dwindle. The pricing below includes taxes, fees & port expenses for 2 adults.

Please note, port order for each sailing is still pending confirmation.

I think DCL has lost their minds. Their prices are insane. They keep taking things away, downgrading service, food etc, but raise prices. I’m sure they will get takers. I’m platinum and I will not pay these prices.

It’s not a clone of Castaway Cay, the popular Bahamas private island DCL has been visiting for more than two decades.

Speaking at a panel discussion Thursday at Walt Disney World, Denise Case, director of entertainment creative for Disney, said when Imagineers built that first destination the theme was “everyone’s just kind of cast away on a deserted island in the middle of the Bahamas.”

“It’s a very fictional place,” she said, adding that Lookout Cay “is a real place with real people and a real culture. It is truly about the Bahamas. There’s nothing fictional really about it.”

Much like Disney pursued an authentic Hawaiian experience at its Aulani resort, Imagineers have tackled that approach for the new port of call at the southern tip of the island of Eleuthera. It’s set to welcome its first visitors in June.

The site map for Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which is opening in summer 2024 on the Bahamas island of Eleuthera. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

Among new details released Thursday, the cruise line revealed the first full site map, which shows a massive swath of green for the 900-acre development.

“One of the things that I love about this map is how untouched the site is,” said Joey Gaskins, DCL’s regional public affairs director and a Bahamas native.

To date, only 16% has been developed and 152 acres have been given back to the government of the Bahamas “because the site is so meaningful, and so I think looking at that very small footprint on what is a significant piece of property is really important on the environmental story as well,” Gaskins said.

He also gave the history behind the name Lighthouse Point, when asked if there was an actual lighthouse on the site. The answer is: sort of.

“The technical name for the building on the site is actually a light station, so it’s not a lighthouse in the traditional sense of a tower with the light on top that’s going around,” he said. “But there’s a structure there that had an outdoor kitchen, a living facility, and that was used to guide ships in from the water.”

The area is actually known for shipwrecks, he said. A settlement on the island now called Rock Sound used to be called Wreck Sound, and the island has a history of people sustaining themselves with goods from the wrecks.

“In other words, ships would wreck against the reefs, and they would go out there and collect wherever they could, sell the goods for later,” he said,

It’s one of the interesting stories line hopes its visitors discover when they venture on excursions away from the destination, including visits to the light station, which is not part of Disney’s property.

“We’ve committed to creating safe access to that, so people can take a look at it and see it, and again, keep it protected,” he said.

Other excursions look to take advantage of Eleuthera’s natural beauty.

“It has a lot of natural wonders — the Glass Window Bridge that separates the Exuma Sound from the Atlantic Ocean; you have pink sand beaches that stretch for miles; blue holes that have mermaid stories attached to them; cathedral caves that reach up into the sky,” Gaskins said.

Guests will have plenty to enjoy within the property lines, with offerings leaning heavily on Bahamian culture, especially the carnival-esque parade called Junkanoo, which is traditionally celebrated across the nation on Boxing Day on Dec. 26 and New Year’s Day on Jan. 1.

One of the main entertainment options at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will be the Junkanoo Rush Out, run by a local Bahamian Junkanoo Group, introducing guests to the signature festival of the Bahamas with a colorful parade full of music and dancing. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

“Junkanoo is the preeminent cultural celebration of the Bahamas,” he said. “It includes goatskin drums, cow bells, whistles, brass, and these amazing costumes made out of cray paper and cardboard. … It is really a celebration of freedom.”

Its origins are debated he said, with some saying it came from Africa and others that it was born of colonial settlement, “but what it has become for us in the Bahamas is symbolic of who we are as a people. It is our creativity, our energy, all of it encapsulated across these two parades during the holidays.”

Visitors to Lookout Cay will get daily doses of the parade and participate in the event Disney organized with the help of the Bahamas National Junkanoo Committee.

“You’ll be able to participate with the music, you’ll be able to make a Bahamian craft,” Case said. “You’ll learn about the cardboard and the pasting and the cray paper. Let me tell you it’s harder than you think y’all.”

Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett came up with unique designs for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Daisy and Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip & Dale. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

The color and vibrancy of that spills over to the character designs for Mickey and the gang that will be found at the resort, but also to the buildings, especially at the heart of the resort called the Goombay Cultural Center, said Kassandra Rose, a creative director with Walt Disney Imagineering.

“You’re also going to see Junkanoo influenced in the architecture and the artwork from the local Bahamian artists,” she said. “The Junkanoo feel of all aspects of culture coming together and really community, so the guests will be able to come and learn from local artists and learn about tradition and be completely inspired by that environment from the artwork on the walls to the patterns on the ceiling.”

One more note about Bahamian authenticity: when asked about how to pronounce “Cay,” the overwhelming opinion is to say it like “key.”

“If you’re Bahamian, it’s always ‘key,'” Gaskins said. “So we’ve adopted that pronunciation, I think, for Lookout Cay.”

Why Disney is doubling down on theme parks with a $60-billion plan

Over the decades since Walt Disney opened his first theme park in 1955, the company’s tourism business has ballooned to an enterprise worth tens of billions in yearly sales, with sprawling locations in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Today, the Burbank entertainment giant is doubling down once again. Disney plans to invest $60 billion over 10 years into its so-called experiences division, which includes the theme parks, resorts and cruise line, as well as merchandise.

In Anaheim, the city council recently approved an expansion plan at Disneyland Resort, which could lead to at least $1.9 billion of development and involve new attractions alongside hotel, retail and restaurant space.

Why the massive investment? At a time when Disney faces revenue challenges due to cord cutting, streaming wars and a slower film box office, its theme parks are a bright — and reliable — spot for its business. Moreover, they play a major part in the company’s strategy — using well-loved movies to inspire rides and vice versa (think “Pirates of the Caribbean”), feeding an ongoing virtuous cycle.

“When you consider other elements of Disney’s business, those theme parks, they’ve shown themselves to be proven winners,” said Carissa Baker, assistant professor of theme park and attraction management at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. “There’s no doubt that they have stayed very competitive in the film space and the TV space, but they’ve always led the theme park sector.”

Will Disneyland get an Avatar land? It’s likely. Here’s what else may be in store

With the approval of DisneylandForward, new attractions and adventures will be coming to Disneyland. Here’s what’s been teased by Disney officials so far.

April 17, 2024

During the most recent fiscal year, the company’s experiences division — which is heavily anchored by the parks — brought in about 70% of Disney’s operating income, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. By contrast, Disney’s sports sector, including ESPN, contributed 19% of operating income. The entertainment division, consisting of the company’s TV channels, streaming services and movie studios, brought up the rear at 11%.

Those numbers represent a stark contrast from even 10 years ago, when the company was heavily reliant on its TV networks, which brought in 56% of Disney’s operating income (that segment included ESPN at the time). The parks and resorts division drew just 20%.

The tide began to turn in 2019, as the global theme park industry saw record-breaking attendance, just in time for the pandemic to hit the next year.

With the parks closed, Disney reported an operating loss of $81 million in 2020 . Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, in particular, were shut for 15 months, due to tight restrictions in the Golden State. Since then, pent-up demand from visitors has propelled theme park revenue in a way that hasn’t been replicated in movie theaters.

“The industry was really growing quickly before COVID-19, and that obviously put a crimp on everything,” said Martin Lewison, associate professor of business management at Farmingdale State College in New York. “But it appears as long as the economy remains healthy, the industry is back on track for that growth.”

Disney’s Bob Iger triumphs over Nelson Peltz in bitter shareholder vote. But big challenges remain

Disney shareholders reject billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, who wanted changes, for a board seat. The hard-fought battle exposed Disney’s challenges.

April 3, 2024

Theme parks are typically one of the fastest parts of the travel and hospitality industry to recover after economic downturns, said Dennis Speigel, founder and chief executive of consulting firm International Theme Park Services. Part of that is because it’s hard to duplicate the theme park experience at home.

“Disney sets the bar for our entire global theme park industry,” Speigel said. “The guests, the visitors, they love the way Disney immerses you in their storytelling.”

The Disneyland Resort expansion plan, known as DisneylandForward, will help the 490-acre park stay fresh for visitors. The plan calls for changes to the park’s zoning, allowing the company more freedom to mix attractions, theme parks, shopping, dining and parking. While the plan doesn’t specify exactly which attractions will be added to the resort, company officials have floated ideas including immersive Frozen, Tron and Avatar experiences.

Over the years, Disneyland has cycled out many rides and exhibits to make way for new ones — for example, of the original 33 attractions that debuted with the park , only about a dozen still exist. (One that didn’t make it? The Monsanto Hall of Chemistry).

Though Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure have recently seen additions such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , Avengers Campus and the renovated Pixar Place Hotel , giving guests new reasons to come back again and again are the key to increased growth. This summer, the Magic Kingdom will open Tiana’s Bayou Adventure , replacing the controversial “Song of the South”-inspired Splash Mountain attraction.

“In the theme parks business, you tend to make more money the more you invest,” said Lewison of Farmingdale State College. “People love riding Haunted Mansion 50 times, but the truth is that even that gets old. So new rides, new lands, new parks — these things draw in attendance, they create pricing power and they add capacity.”

And Disney’s rivals in the theme parks business show no signs of slowing down, meaning Disney can’t just rely on its existing hits. Universal Studios Hollywood recently added Super Nintendo World to its park, SeaWorld is touting new attractions and shows for its 60th anniversary this year, and even immersive art installation company Meow Wolf is expanding throughout the U.S.

The competition is becoming so fierce that Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger faced a pointed question during last month’s shareholder meeting about Walt Disney World’s readiness to vie with a new Universal park set to open in Orlando in 2025. He pushed back on the query, saying the idea that Disney World didn’t prepare enough attractions to compete for guests that year “just couldn’t be further from the truth.”

“We’ve been aware of Universal’s plans for a new park for more than a decade,” he said. “We have a sophisticated approach to analyzing the needs of all of our businesses and strategically deploying capital.”

The importance of the parks to Disney’s bottom line is also showing up in the entertainment giant’s search for Iger’s successor . (Iger is expected to retire in 2026.) Josh D’Amaro, the chair of Disney Experiences, which includes the parks, is considered one of four front-runners for the job. Notably, it was Bob Chapek, formerly of the parks division, who initially succeeded Iger, though he was later ousted from the role.

Disney reveals record $540 million theme park and hotel investment.

Disney has revealed that it spent a record $543 million (€504 million) last year on renovating the flagship hotel at its resort in Paris and building a land there based on the hit animated movie Frozen .

It is the largest annual investment ever made in Disneyland Paris since its ornate iron gates swung open in 1992 and is almost double the peak amount spent during the construction of the Walt Disney Walt Disney Studios park where the Frozen land is located.

The new land will sit on the fringes of a man-made lake which is also under construction along with a new restaurant, a ride themed to beloved 2010 movie Tangled and an Alice in Wonderland stunt show which will debut later this month. The new attractions will be a whole new world for the resort and when the Frozen land opens over the coming years the Studios park will be renamed Disney Adventure World.

It is part of a plan to nearly double the size of the park which opened in 2002 and has long been criticised for being far smaller than its fairytale-themed neighbor, the Disneyland Park.

In November 2017 we broke the news about the expansion which was officially announced in February the following year at a press conference led by Disney's chief executive Bob Iger and French president Emmanuel Macron.

The first step in the expansion plan was the opening in 2022 of the Avengers Campus area based on Disney's Marvel superhero characters. Its roller coaster races past screens showing Iron Man and Captain Marvel whilst another ride uses motion-sensing cameras and 3D screens to give guests the impression that they are spinning webs alongside Spider-Man as we have reported .

Imessage s lock on america is this really the beginning of the end, a psychologist explains the difference between psychopaths and sociopaths.

A Spider-Man attraction is at the heart of Disney's Avengers Campus in Paris

The lavish land is designed to look like a secret base which has been built on the site of old factories and military compounds. No expense has been spared as fake crumbling brickwork, complete with faded paint on it, can be seen behind the futuristic facades. It feels like less of a theme park area and more of a stage for guests to act our their super hero fantasies.

Costumed characters do battle with each other on the roofs of the elaborate buildings which seems like a more natural location for mock-fights than the stages that usually stand on the ground in theme parks.

Even the restaurants are suited to their surroundings. One is supposedly powered by the serum which enables tiny Avengers team member Ant-Man to shrink and grow so it serves micro Oreos and burgers the size of dinner plates cut into slices like cake.

Another restaurant is hidden inside a converted World War II control center which has blueprints of weapons from the Avengers movies hanging on the walls. Stain marks next to them appear to have been caused by an explosion and there is good reason for this.

The wizards behind this immersive land, and all of the others in Disney's parks, are are known as Imagineers because their jobs involve the imaginative application of engineering. Disneyland Paris was developed by Imagineers who aren't just leaders in theme park design but the entire experiential entertainment sector. They include luminaries like Tom Morris, Eddie Sotto and Jim Shull who oversaw the Avengers Campus.

Shull says the story behind the blast marks is that the dining area was originally a store room for dangerous materials and something went awry there. Pointing to a map of the land, Shull even shows where an airfield would have been located in the imaginary world where the buildings were actually a military base rather than a theme park land.

"The airfield doesn’t exist in reality, but it was present in my mind whenever I thought about the foundations of the designs," he says . It has paid off.

One of Imagineering's most skilled artists, Shull was the logical choice for Avengers Campus as he began drawing Marvel characters when he was only a few years old. "I also owned thousands of Marvel Comics and they proved as useful as the films in the creation and design process," he says . No stone was left unturned as he even visited factories in France to ensure that the ones in Avengers Campus looked authentic.

"European factories don’t look the same as US factories," he says . "The electrical, the fittings, the walls are different." No detail was too trivial as he even inspected valve fittings to design the exposed piping for the make-believe former factory in Avengers Campus. "European guests would have known if the factory didn’t look correct," he explains .

It comes at quite a cost and, according to David Jaraudias , design manager of Avengers Campus, Disney spent a total of $398.6 million (€370 million) on the land. It didn't take long for the investment to start paying off.

Shull's attention to detail has driven a stream of guests through the turnstiles. According to the 2022 Theme Index Report from infrastructure analysts AECOM AECOM , attendance at Disneyland Paris hit 15.3 million in 2022, rising 2% on its 2019 tally and making it Europe's most-visited tourist attraction.

Although Disney wholly owns its outpost in Paris, it doesn't itemise the results of any of its parks in its filings in the United States. However, they can be found in the French financial statements of Euro Disney Associés (EDA), the main operating company of Disneyland Paris.

As we revealed last year in The Times of London , the opening of Avengers Campus cast a powerful spell on the resort as EDA's revenue rose nearly three-fold to a record $2.6 billion (€2.4 billion) in the year to September 30, 2022. It outstripped a 57.8% increase in costs leaving the company with a $50.6 million (€47 million) operating profit, its highest in a decade.

Investment in the expansion of the Studios park began showing in EDA's financial statements in 2019 and since then, a total of $2.1 billion (€1.9 billion) has been spent on it and other smaller projects as shown in the graph below.

Investment in Disneyland Paris 2013 to 2023

Last year a further $25.4 million (€23.6 million) was invested by the Disney-owned company which operates the Disney Village shopping and dining district at Disneyland Paris along with five of its on-site hotels. The grandest of the group, Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, re-opened in 2021 following an extensive renovation which gave it the appearance of a high-end art gallery dedicated to superhero comics. It has had a magic touch.

According to documents filed by Disney last year, in 2022 the hotel's average daily rate was more than 100% higher than in 2018, its last full year of operation before closing for the renovation. The filings add that spending per room increased by more than 50% and guest scores more than doubled. It hasn't been such a fairytale for the flagship hotel at Disneyland Paris.

EDA's financial statements for the year-ending September 30, 2023 reveal that the increase in spending on construction in progress "mainly reflects the investment linked to the development plan for the Walt Disney Studios park and the renovation work of the Disneyland Hotel."

The palatial pink hotel at the entrance to the Disneyland Park re-opened in January after an extensive renovation and it is now themed to Disney princesses. It was initially deluged with negative reviews reportedly giving it a rating of 2.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor.

It has risen to 4 since then but negative reviews are still flooding in and in April alone one guest said that "the deluxe rooms are ok but not particularly magical." Another added that "literally whatever we tried and ate was probably the worst food my family ever had. (without exaggerating)." A third guest concluded that "overall, this stay was not up to expectations and we will stay elsewhere in the future."

Disneyland Paris replied to say the concerns have been logged and that it "will address them internally to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future." It isn't stopping there.

After years of under-investment, there are still many areas of the resort that are in need of a fresh sprinkling of pixie dust. In 2018 we revealed that the Disney Village would be transformed by both a major renovation and an expansion.

"We have renewed part of the hotels, and we will continue that. We have renewed a number of attractions in the parks so the next step will be to renew the Disney Village as well," revealed Francis Borezée, the former vice president of resort and real estate development at Disneyland Paris. "We will start with the renovation, but then we have an opportunity to expand where today we have tents which are used for business events."

Disney Village hasn’t changed much since it opened with Disneyland Paris 32 years ago. It was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry and has an industrial style which was popular in the 1990s. There are brushed steel pillars, bare concrete paths and shops in warehouse-like units. A phased plan to give it the appearance of a rustic retail park was finally officially announced in March 2022 and is currently underway. There is more to come.

Disney Village is getting an upgrade

Another land is due to be added to the Studios park once it has been rebranded. It was originally announced that the land would be set in the world of Star Wars but since then rumours have swirled that it could be switched for one based on the Lion King or Avatar following the success of the latter at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Disney needs to work its magic next door to the Studios park too. To this day, the last major new-build attraction in the Disneyland Park was the Space Mountain roller coaster which opened way back in 1995. The resort faces home grown challenges too as the DLP Report fan account frequently posts photos of disrepair there. Even the new Avengers Campus hasn't escaped its gaze.

Its photos show that the glass doors at the entrance to one of its restaurants shattered in September, effects in the parade next door went down in February and earlier this month paving cracked near to the route.

There is no shortage of money to patch this up. As we recently revealed in The Guardian , Disneyland Paris made a record operating profit of $188.5 million (€175 million) last year as revenue rose 23.5% to an all-time high of $3.1 billion (€2.9 billion).

This represented a staggering 56.4% of the international revenue generated by Disney's entire parks and experiences division and 17.1% of its profit. In contrast, Disney's direct to consumer streaming unit burned up $2.6 billion of losses during 2023 so the profits from Disneyland Paris helped to mitigate that. The entire parks and experiences division had a similar effect on Disney's overall fortunes as it generated 69.6% of the media giant's $12.9 billion operating income on just 36.6% of the revenue.

Disney is capitalizing on this by heavily investing in its parks and resorts. It has been widely reported that Disney will pour in $60 billion over the next decade though its filings reveal that the sum will actually be half that with the difference spent on tech, maintenance and its cruise line. It is still 60 times the amount invested in Disneyland Paris last year and given how much of a glow that has given to the French resort's bottom line, Disney's parks and experiences division has everything to play for.
