In-Person Campus Tour Registration

To ensure the health and safety of visitors, XULA staff and students, the following guidelines have put implem ented (PLEASE READ FULLY BEFORE REGISTERING FOR A TOUR):

By registering for a campus tour, all visitors are digitally agreeing to all abide by all COVID-19 measures put in place when visiting campus. This includes wearing a mask/facial covering throughout the entire visit, social distancing, etc.

Upon checking in, each visitor will have their temperature checked.

All visitors and staff are required to wear masks at all times.

Campus tours will be limited to small groups. We ask that students visiting campus bring no more than one parent or guardian to accompany them on their tour.

Social distancing will be enforced on tours and during information sessions.

If you are unable to attend the campus tour for which you are registered, please reach to the Office of Admissions to cancel your tour registration so that space may be available for other potential visitors. You can also reach out to us in order to reschedule your tour.

Xavier University Surpasses $100M Fundraising Milestone

Xavier University has achieved a significant fundraising milestone, raising over $100 million as part of its ambitious Centennial Campaign.

Xavier University of Louisiana, the nation’s sole Black Catholic historically Black college and university (HBCU), has achieved a significant fundraising milestone, raising over $100 million as part of its ambitious Centennial Campaign , which has a goal of raising $500 million, according to ESSENCE . The university’s achievement is a testament to its commitment to excellence and its enduring impact on producing future leaders.

The accomplishment is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of chronic underfunding faced by HBCUs nationwide, amounting to an estimated $12.6 billion deficit. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona underscored the urgency of addressing these funding inequities , urging state leaders to fulfill their obligations to historically Black institutions.

Reynold Verret, president of Xavier University of Louisiana, expressed pride in the milestone, highlighting the university’s role in nurturing thoughtful and intelligent leaders prepared to tackle society’s challenges. “An investment in Xavier is not only an investment in our current students, but it’s an investment in social justice, racial justice, and the future of our communities,” Verret said, emphasizing the broader significance of the university’s success.

Xavier University’s fundraising success reflects its commitment to providing quality education and resources for its students. With aspirations to lead the way for future trailblazers, the university aims to leverage its financial support to drive excellence and innovation in education.

Recently, a $100 million donation was made to Spelman College by billionaire philanthropists Ronda Stryker and William Johnston , which has drawn significant attention. The substantial contribution will support scholarships, academic programs focusing on public policy and democracy, and improvements to student housing, highlighting a trend of increased philanthropic support for HBCUs following the racial justice protests sparked by George Floyd’s killing in 2020.

Despite their crucial role in fostering excellence and social mobility within Black America, HBCUs continue to face stark financial disparities compared to their wealthier, predominantly white counterparts. The overall endowments of all HBCUs combined amount to less than a tenth of Harvard University’s endowment, underscoring the vast financial divide.

However, despite these positive developments, overall donations to HBCUs still lag far behind those received by other prestigious institutions. In 2019, HBCUs received a mere fraction of the funding from foundations compared to Ivy League schools, emphasizing the persistent financial challenges they face.

Xavier university of louisiana first hbcu to be featured on the college tour.

On March 21, 2023, Xavier University of Louisiana students excitedly filtered in the University Center Ballroom. There was a table filled with special caramel popcorn tins just for attendees, as well as a vending cart belonging to Sunset Slush NOLA, where they could choose their favorite flavor. A large screen and projector dominated one corner of the room, and students quickly claimed the rows closest to the anticipated show. The watch party for a very special episode of the television show “The College Tour” was about to begin- the show’s first feature of a historically Black college and university (HBCU) in the series- and Xavier University of Louisiana was the star.

The College Tour is an episodic television series that tells the stories of campus life at colleges across the country and around the world. With Dr. Desi Williams acting as the host and narrator of Xavier’s feature, the nation’s only historically Black and Catholic institution had its story told from the perspective of 10 Xavierites from various majors and pathways.

“The passion that these students have for [Xavier] University is contagious,” said Dr. Williams.

Over the last few years, Xavier University of Louisiana has forged new pathways and expanded programs and offerings for its students to allow them to explore their talents and interests. Quickly approaching its historic centennial celebration, Xavier has a long history of graduating the next generation of leaders who seek a more just and humane society and bring about positive change. The students included in the episode were but a few of the shining examples of the next generation that Xavier is educating to be strong thought-leaders and changemakers.

The students featured included Kirsten McGowen, a second-year doctor of pharmacy candidate and a former Miss Xavier; Yalari Trice, a freshman studying chemistry Pre-med and biology; Lauryn Shipp, a psychology major in her sophomore year with a minor in Public Health; Adrian A. Thornton II, vice-president of Xavier’s Student Government Association and a senior studying chemistry pre-med with a minor in biology; Senior Yaa’Ann (Yaa) Agyeman-Yeboah, who majors in mass communications and minors in political science; Kayla James, a senior public health major with a double minor in biology and chemistry; Jayla Williams-Ridley, political science major with a minor in biology pre-med in her junior year; Josiah Burno, sophomore and sociology major with a concentration in crime and social justice; Celeste Mercadel, a senior majoring in public health science with a double minor in sociology and mass communication; and Rachel Wynn, a transfer sophomore studying chemistry pre-med.

“Xavier exceeded my expectations in every way,” said Wynn during her segment.

The full episode is now available to view on The College Tour website and will be released on Amazon prime as part of the show’s eighth season on May 23rd.
