• 193 Amoore Road, Mamaku 3072, New Zealand Drive north from Rotorua on SH5. You will pass the Agrodome. Drive approx 15 minutes until you reach the top of the hills and the road straightens and flattens out. Take Maraeroa Rd on the left, travel 2 km and turn right into Amoore Road. Follow the signs to Off Road NZ.

Went on monster truck first, got kitted out in helmets and wet gear as it was raining...it was fantastic fun, then on to driving a 4x4 over the terrain. For anyone who wants something a bit different, this is definitely a must. We did the Freak of Nature package which included the 4WD Bush Safari and 4x4 Monster Thrill Ride. The 4WD Bush Safari was amazing. You drive the vehicle yourself and a guide walks around the track and communicates via radio to tell you where to go. You go through deep water, mud, up hills, steep drops and there are a few challenges which were heaps of fun! The tracks are well made but still make you feel like you’re actually off-road. “The Luge” drop was definitely a highlight. You also go through some really deep water and on a steep My partner has owned trucks before and done a lot of 4WDing and still had a great time. Obviously you have to go relatively slow around the track but there are some more technical and challenging bits to make it exciting! Our guide was Cory and he was amazing at explaining everything and made the trip lots of fun! He was a great guide and also had plenty of knowledge about the area etc The Monster Ride was great fun too! As someone who has done plenty of adrenalin activities, I thought this might be a bit mundane for me - but it was very thrilling and loads of fun! The 4x4 was crazy and the track has lots of twists and turns. Overall an amazing experience! All the staff were super friendly and it was a great facility, I can’t wait to come back one day! He had a ball. He sat in the front seat (on his booster seat) and got the best view of all the water holes, crazy leans and bridges, not to mention the waterfall and the luge. However, it's all about that track... the flat out downhill, double left hander is as sweet as you'll find anywhere. Then you discover that the final right-hander can be taken flat as well and you just can't stop grinning. Loved it. Don't be put off by the cost. Four-wheel-driving Rotorua

Off Road NZ offer a range of activities that include a 4WD Bush Safari where you drive small four-wheel-drive vehicles through a muddy course and a Monster 4WD Thrill Ride where you come along for the ride in an expertly-driven specially-modified vehicle.

The 4WD Bush Safari experience takes 45–60 minutes and the muddy course features a water crossing and a six-metre controlled slide down an 80º incline. It’s the most fun you’ll have in a Suzuki Jimny.

The Monster 4WD Thrill Ride is a 15-minute experience where someone else does the driving. It’s a bigger, open, vehicle that is much higher off the ground so it there are plenty of thrills.

The Off Road NZ course is located on a 54.5ha (135 acre) course, a 20-minute drive north of Rotorua.

4WD Bush Safari - self drive After learning the ropes from your professional and friendly guide (during which time, you will probably be squirming with nerves and anticipation!) you will suit up in your safety and protection gear and get that engine revving. The terrain on the 4WD Bush Safari is definitely unique and packed with exciting challenges, such as thrilling climbs and descents, sharp turns that will leave you sweating and big, huge, muddy, fun puddles. Every second of this safari is filled with fun and action!

Monster 4X4 Thrill Ride - professional driver The amazing Monster 4X4 is driven by a professional driver – and trust us – you will be glad that they are such terrific drivers as this baby is certainly harder to drive than it looks! The unique 4 wheel steering mechanism allows the Monster to easily tackle the tough New Zealand native bush terrain and the unbelievable trails. You will be white-knuckled as you are taken up over near-vertical slopes, tackle the ‘Widow Maker’ and the ‘Loggers Long Drop’. Definitely one for the thrill seekers.

• Can I drive the Monster 4X4? No, our guides are specifically trained to drive the Monster 4X4. It's not as easy as they make it look!

Please find below information for driving:

Do I need to show my drivers licence? Yes, if you are the driver on our 4WD Bush Safari. You will also need to sign a health and safety declaration. No Licence is required for any of our other products, but please check age and height restrictions to avoid disappointment at the counter.. 

Is a restricted / learner licence ok for the 4WD Bush Safari? Yes, the same rules apply as the road - i.e. a guest with a learner licence must drive with a passenger who has held their full licence for two years or more.

Do I need an international driver’s licence for the 4WD Bush Safari? No, but you do need to show us your licence from home and sign a waiver confirming you have a current drivers licence in your country of origin.

• 193 Amoore Road, Mamaku 3072, New Zealand Drive north from Rotorua on SH5. You will pass the Agrodome. Drive approx 15 minutes until you reach the top of the hills and the road straightens and flattens out. Take Maraeroa Rd on the left, travel 2 km and turn right into Amoore Road. Follow the signs to Off Road NZ.

For anyone who wants something a bit different, this is definitely a must. We did the Freak of Nature package which included the 4WD Bush Safari and 4x4 Monster Thrill Ride. The 4WD Bush Safari was amazing. You drive the vehicle yourself and a guide walks around the track and communicates via radio to tell you where to go. You go through deep water, mud, up hills, steep drops and there are a few challenges which were heaps of fun! The tracks are well made but still make you feel like you’re actually off-road. “The Luge” drop was definitely a highlight. You also go through some really deep water and on a steep My partner has owned trucks before and done a lot of 4WDing and still had a great time. Obviously you have to go relatively slow around the track but there are some more technical and challenging bits to make it exciting! Our guide was Cory and he was amazing at explaining everything and made the trip lots of fun! He was a great guide and also had plenty of knowledge about the area etc The Monster Ride was great fun too! As someone who has done plenty of adrenalin activities, I thought this might be a bit mundane for me - but it was very thrilling and loads of fun! The 4x4 was crazy and the track has lots of twists and turns. Overall an amazing experience! All the staff were super friendly and it was a great facility, I can’t wait to come back one day! He had a ball. He sat in the front seat (on his booster seat) and got the best view of all the water holes, crazy leans and bridges, not to mention the waterfall and the luge. However, it's all about that track... the flat out downhill, double left hander is as sweet as you'll find anywhere. Then you discover that the final right-hander can be taken flat as well and you just can't stop grinning. Loved it. Don't be put off by the cost. 4WD Bush Safari – 1 Child (5-15) – Rotorua – If you are looking for pulse racing, adrenaline pumping gift adventure, you have found it! The ultimate 4WD adventure. Rugged and remote, the trail ahead disappears into thick native NZ forest. Prepare for a journey that is full of unknowns! Buckle in and share the driving in one of Off Road NZ’s 4WDs. Your professional guide, up ahead, gives you instructions while your heart is racing with anticipation. The terrain is like nothing you’ve encountered before and the challenges come thick and fast!  As you traverse unbelievably steep climbs and descents; tight, twisting bends; deep, muddy holes; the 4WD rocks and pitches. Foliage brushes past… you come to a bridge of poles over a creek – how can you possibly get across that?  And suddenly the luge: a six metre-high controlled slide down a near-vertical 80-degree slope. Adrenaline pumping, you try not to look down. Follow instructions and take a leap of faith! There are CB radios and heaters in each vehicle, you will be fully guided by our professional instructors, and luckily – the vehicles get dirty, you stay clean!

The go-kart race was the obvious highlight for the majority of our group. The 4WD safari was a great way for our newly formed team to bond with someone new. All the staff were patient, informative, and extremely accommodating. Special thanks to the team for going above and beyond with the awards ceremony, driving to get our food, cleaning up after us etc - they made it so easy, thank you! The campfire/conference space was perfect for what we needed. A colleague commented how nice it was to have a "conference" outside of a conventional board room and in a remote, relaxed environment that fostered team bonding. Lousia D
