Spain Small Group Tours Overview:

Many civilizations have passed through Spain ‘s long and rich history. During its centuries of navigation, exploration and global empire it disseminated Spanish culture and language worldwide. It has brought us Flamenco, classical guitars, bullfighting, tapas, gazpacho, paella and great wines. Its artistic merit can be witnessed in the works of Cervantes, El Greco, Goya, Velasquez, Gaudi, Dali and Picasso. Modern Spain is a young democracy with vibrant and welcoming people.

Our Madrid & Central Spain tour takes us on a semi-circle journey through the regions of Castilla La Mancha , Extremadura  and Castilla Leon . The great Gothic Cathedral and Santo Tomé Church with their wonderful paintings by El Greco await us in Toledo . We’ll discover the riches from the Americas in  Trujillo and view Moorish towers in medieval Cáceres .  Mérida  famous for its Roman ruins and art, will also offer up a paella lunch. Dazzling Salamanca  (really!) is next, where you’ll find even more beautiful squares and the best tapas. We’ll walk cobblestone Zamora and lunch at an 11th century castle. The incredible Roman aqueduct and Disneyesque Alcázar at Segovia  will lead us on to magnetic Madrid , the Villa Real Hotel and the Prado Museum .

Getting there.

  • Terms & Conditions

Toledo is strategically situated on a cliff surrounded on three sides by the river Tagus. A Roman town since 192 BC, it became the capital of the Visigoths in the 6 th century when it was recognized as the country’s religious center, initiating the close relationship between Church and State that has defined much of Spanish history.

Early afternoon transfers from Madrid airport and city center to  Toledo  in the region of Castilla La Mancha where we will stay 2 nights in the former Renaissance palace, Palacio Eugenia Montijo .

Orientation walk and welcome dinner.

Central Spain Photo Tour

Spain small group tours

Under the Moors Toledo enjoyed a period of tolerance between Arabs, Jews, and Christians, which produced an enriching cultural exchange. Reconquered by Christians in 1085 , it became their most important city – the “soul of Spain.”

Muslims and Jews who remained were tolerated, but the Christians quickly established their authority converting mosques into churches, and then adding monasteries and convents.

Their biggest undertaking was the great Gothic Cathedral , built on the site of the former Great Mosque, a political statement that Christianity was back to stay.

Our morning local guide tour will take us through the narrow maze-like historical center, the old Jewish quarter, we’ll visit a synagogue, a mosque, the Cathedral and see the fabulous El Greco painting in Santo Tomé .

El Greco was a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance period. His unmistakable style of  elongated, tortured figures, often religious in nature, were unconventional and dramatic for their time. Born on the island of Crete he was given the nickname, “El Greco” meaning “the Greek” to reference his heritage. After studying and working in Venice and Rome, he received a commission to work in Toledo where he lived for the rest of his life. Mid afternoon we’ll admire 30 of his paintings at the  Santa Cruz Museum.

Evening free.

Spain small group tours

Morning guided tour of colonial  Trujillo , our first stop in Extremadura. The town’s significance began when Spanish conquistadors such as Francisco Pizarro returned to Spain from the Americas and used their wealth to enrich their cities and build magnificent homes to celebrate their accomplishments.

Included lunch

Arrival to  Cáceres  at El Parador , a former 16th century palace where we will spend our next two nights.

Cáceres was a thriving city during the Roman occupation, languished under the Visigoths, rebuilt by the Moors, retaken by Christians in the 13 th century, flourishing after the discovery of the Americas. As a result you’ll find Roman walls, 30 Moorish towers, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The medieval town center is in pristine condition and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage City in 1986.

Evening free

Spain small group tours

Morning free in Cáceres followed by a mid-day departure for a paella lunch.

Mérida  settled by discharged Roman soldiers under the rule of Augustus. Its unique history has left us with not only the largest concentration of Roman ruins in Spain but also the best preserved. Our local guide leads us on an exploration of the ruins, from the amphitheater where concerts are still performed, to the Aqueduct of Miracles, the Temple of Diana and the longest Roman bridge in Spain.

The impressive  National Museum of Roman Art  showcases wonderful mosaics and sculptures and depicts everyday life in a Roman colony.

Evening on your own in Cáceres.

Spain small group tours

Today we ride through bull country up the Sierra mountain range to remote  La Alberca , a well-preserved village of 14th century architecture, thatched roofs, flowered balconies and cobblestones. The town boasts Spain’s finest ham, the Jamón Serrano, produced by local pigs feeding only on black acorns. After a guided tour of the  Casa Sátur , a traditional village home, you’ll have time to wander the narrow streets, sampling the many local delights like sweet honey almond turrón.

Early afternoon arrival to magnificent Salamanca . Our lodging is the former convent Palacio San Esteban . (3 nights)

Spain small group tours

Salamanca, located on the southwest corner of Castilla León, is a lively city with Roman ancestry and Moorish influence. It is home to the oldest university in Spain (1134) and is today an international destination for students interested in learning the Spanish language. Our morning local guide tour takes us over the Puente Romano (Roman Bridge), past the old and new cathedrals with visits to Casa de las Conchas and the university. We’ll wind down in the sun drenched Plaza Mayor, undeniably one of most beautiful plazas in all of Spain.

Optional included afternoon visit to Casa Lis , an Art Deco and Art Nouveau museum housed in a 19th century mansion, considered to have one of the best collections of blown glass and porcelain dolls.

Spain small group tours

Called Spain’s loveliest town by many, Zamora has the feel of an old fashioned Castilian provincial capital. It is an architectural jewel with the 14th century bridge over the beautiful Duero River, the keep, gate and moat of the ancient Moorish castle, its many Romanesque churches and the narrow, cobblestone pedestrian streets of the Old Town.

Our visit will include the 12th century cathedral and museum which has an impressive display of 15th and 16th century Flemish tapestries that tell the story of the Trojan War.

On our return to Salamanca we’ll stop at an historic-artistic 11th century castle for a Castilian lunch and tempranillo wine.

Spain small group tours

Segovia is a beautiful town of Old Castile,  full of light  and space. A World Heritage Site, its most prominent historical monuments are the towering  Roman Aqueduct and the elegant Alcázar .

Our guided tour begins with the impressive first century aqueduct that once transported water from the Fuente Fría River, 11 miles away.

After free time and lunch our tour continues at the fairy tale like Alcázar. One of the inspirations for Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle, the Alcázar was originally built as a military fortress and later became a residency for the monarchy.

Afternoon visit to the Valley of the Fallen,  a monumental memorial to those who fell during the Spanish Civil War and the burial place of General Francisco Franco.

The day concludes with a scenic drive along Madrid ’s regal avenues and plazas until we reach the fabulous Madrid Villa Real Hotel (2 nights).

Orientation walk with your tour manager. Evening free.

Spain small group tours

Spain’s largest city, as well as the nation’s capital, Madrid is the political, economic and social center of the country. It is home to the monarchy, the Royal Palace, the parliament and internationally renowned museums. Rich in history, dating back to the 9th century, Madrid balances past and present with its old world architecture set against bright lights and modern skyscrapers, lively evenings and a vivacious culture.

We begin our day at La Catedral Almudena and then make our way toward Plaza Oriente to visit Madrid’s Royal Palace . Former home to Spanish royalty, it now houses famous works of art, the particularly ornate king’s dressing room, and the world’s most complete set of Antonio Stradivarius string instruments.

The morning concludes at the Mercado de San Miguel, one of Madrid’s oldest and largest markets, now converted into a gastronomical and culinary center!

Afternoon walk through the Botanical gardens of Retiro Park followed by an exploration of Spanish history and culture at one of Europe’s most acclaimed art museums,  El Prado , featuring famous works by Velázquez, El Greco and Goya.

Included farewell dinner at Sobrino de Botín , the world’s oldest restaurant (est. 1725), famous for its roasted meats cooked in a cast iron wood burning oven.

Australians grace kim and hannah green tied for lead in lpga tour’s jm eagle la championship.

LOS ANGELES – Grace Kim stumbled to a 5-over 76 on Saturday in the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship — and still held onto a share of the lead.

It was that kind of a day at Wilshire Country Club, the tree-lined layout made difficult by bumpy poa annua greens and tricky wind conditions.

Recommended Videos

“It’s tough for everyone today,” Kim said. “It was just one of those days. It’s just golf.”

Four strokes ahead entering the day after rounds of 64 and 66, Kim was tied with fellow Australian Hannah Green, the defending champion who saved par with a 12-footer on the par-3 18th for a 70. They were at 7-under 206.

“The putt that I made on 18 almost felt like I birdie,” Green said.

Maja Stark, playing alongside Kim in the final group, bogeyed the 18th for a 73.

“You know that you can’t take every missed putt too personally because that’s going to happen for everyone,” Stark said.

The Swede was a stroke back with Jin Hee Im, the South Korean player who had a back-nine 30 in a 63 for the best round of the day, and Germany's Esther Henseleit (71). Nasa Hataoka of Japan was 5 under after a 64.

Kim bogeyed the par-5 second hole and had a double bogey on the par-3 fourth. She also dropped shots on the par-4 10th and 16th holes.

“I tried to stay in the present of just the next shot, giving myself good chances,” said the 23-year-old Kim, The LOTTE Championship last year in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. “I know I had a few three-putts in there, but just keeping my head in the game and not losing that shot focus.”

The 27-year-old Green rebounded from a 2-foot par miss on the par-4 17th with the par save on 18. After bogeying three of the last six holes on the front nine, she played a four-hole stretch on the back nine in 4 under. She eagled the par-5 13th and birdied 14 and 16, then missed the short putt on 17.

“I didn’t really have many full swings. Had a lot of half-shots in,” said Green, the winner in Singapore early last month for her fourth LPGA Tour title. “With the greens firming up and getting bouncy it kind of made it hard to completely trust that shot.”

Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year. Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.

Ellen DeGeneres says the toxic workplace allegations about her talk show took 'such a toll on my ego'

  • Two years after her talk show ended, Ellen DeGeneres launched a stand-up comedy tour.
  • In her set, DeGeneres addresses the ending of her show and the toxic workplace allegations it sustained.
  • Despite joking about the situation, DeGeneres said the ending of the show was "devastating."

Insider Today

Ellen DeGeneres addressed the end of her long-running talk show "Ellen" on the first night of her stand-up comedy tour — and while she cracked jokes about the experience, she said that it was "devastating."

DeGeneres' daytime talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," ran for 19 seasons from 2003 to 2022. It came to an end about two years after BuzzFeed News reported that some former staffers alleged the show was a toxic workplace , prompting an internal investigation and eventually an apology from DeGeneres.

But, as Rolling Stone reported, DeGeneres doesn't have any desire for "revenge," something that she commented on when an audience member asked her directly if she would seek out those who "wronged" her.

Related stories

"I don't know who wronged me," DeGeneres responded, per Rolling Stone. "I don't even know who these people are, so I can't seek revenge, but I really don't hold onto stuff. It's just not who I am."

The allegations in BuzzFeed's report, as well as other celebrities' testimonials about negative experiences with DeGeneres, contrasted starkly with the host's "be kind" motto.

Now, almost two years after the show's conclusion, she's launched her "Ellen's Last Stand…Up Tour" which kicked off in West Hollywood on Wednesday. And she's got jokes.

"I got kicked out of show business. There's no mean people in show business," DeGeneres joked during the set, according to Rolling Stone.

"The 'be kind' girl wasn't kind. I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps," she said. "Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, 'Go fuck yourself,' people would've been pleasantly surprised."

While DeGeneres made jokes about being ousted from Hollywood for the second time (the first, for those keeping score, came after she came out as a lesbian through her sitcom "Ellen"), she was clear in 2021 that she wasn't ending her show in response to the allegations. At the time, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she simply needed a new "challenge," and that she had already planned to end the show after its 19th season.

But despite the humorous approach, DeGeneres was clear about the impact that the allegations and ending of her show had on her.

"Honestly, I'm making jokes about what happened to me but it was devastating, really," she said, per Rolling Stone. "I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way."

Amber Heard drinking Champagne.

The Rum Champagne Diary.

Amber Heard toasted her 38th birthday Monday by popping open some celebratory bubbly.

The “Aquaman” actress shared a rare photo of herself sipping a glass of Champagne inside an upscale wine cellar on Instagram Tuesday.

“Champagne kind of birthday,” she captioned the post, adding pink heart emojis.

Heard was all dressed up in a shimmery gold turtleneck sweater and accessorized with delicate gold rings, a gold Apple Watch and several stud earrings.

She wore natural-looking glam and painted her nails clear for the occasion.

It is unclear who Heard celebrated her birthday with.

The “Hidden Palms” alum last posted on Instagram in January when she shared a rare photo of her daughter , Oonagh Paige.

The throwback snap showed Heard bottle-feeding Oonagh, who was born in April 2021, on the set of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Page Six exclusively reported in July 2021 that the “Drive Angry” star had secretly welcomed her child via surrogate after learning she would never be able to carry her own baby.

A source told us at the time that Heard was “beyond in love” with her new bundle of joy, who was given the middle name Paige in honor of the actress’ late mom .

Heard became a mother nearly a year after losing her defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, in June 2022.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, 60, sued his ex-wife for $50 million in February 2019, claiming she had defamed him in a December 2018 Washington Post op-ed about abuse.

Heard hit back with a $100 million countersuit in August 2020 but was ultimately ordered to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages plus $350,000 in punitive damages.

The “Justice League” star, who was married to the “Edward Scissorhands” star from 2015 to 2017 , has since kept a low profile, selling her California home and moving to Spain with her daughter.

Sources claimed at the time that Heard had “quit Hollywood,” which she later denied .

“I keep moving forward,” she told a local reporter in May 2023. “That’s life.”

Perhaps her recent resurgence on social media is a signal that she is getting ready to return to the big screen.
