The 6 best cruise ship waterslides and watery fun zones

Gene Sloan

Call it the Battle of the Waterslides.

In the last few years, the big boys of the cruise industry — Royal Caribbean , MSC Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line — have been locked in a game of one-upmanship when it comes to waterslides and watery fun zones on vessels.

In addition to such over-the-top, new attractions as go-kart tracks and roller coasters , the brands behind the biggest megaresorts at sea have been packing the top decks of their vessels with even more over-the-top watery allures.

For more cruise guides, news and reviews, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Royal Caribbean, for instance, added an 800-foot-long "water coaster" to the back of its 3,386-passenger Navigator of the Seas just a few years ago. It's one of more than two dozen giant waterslides the line has added to more than half a dozen ships in the last seven years.

Royal Caribbean also plans a record six waterslides on its next new ship, Icon of the Seas, which is scheduled to debut in January 2024.

But as recently as early 2016, Royal Caribbean didn't have a single waterslide on any of its vessels.

MSC Cruises also has gone big with giant water parks in the past seven years, with as many as four waterslides on more than half a dozen of its newest vessels. Norwegian has loaded up its most recent ships with giant water parks, too — some have as many as five waterslides!

Not to be outdone, Carnival, an early adopter of waterslides on ships, has added sprawling water park areas with multiple waterslides to almost every vessel in its fleet.

A brief history of water attractions at sea

In the beginning, there was the pool. As watery cruise ship attractions go, it has long been the staple — something found on nearly every cruise vessel going back to the 1970s.

But as early as 1978, at least one line was spicing up its Lido decks with a little waterslide fun — little being the operative word. That's the year Carnival added a single slide into the pool on its 728-passenger Festivale — a slide so small it's now hilarious to think it was touted as an attraction.

Carnival Cruise Line added a waterslide to a vessel for the first time in 1978, to the 728-passenger Festivale. (Photo courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line).

Often cited as the first waterslide ever on a cruise vessel, the Festivale slide was of a sort that was found at backyard pools at the time. The cruise industry was still in its infancy, of course, and ships were orders of magnitude smaller than they are today. Festivale measured just 32,697 tons, about one-seventh the size of today's biggest cruise vessels.

Carnival, the so-called Fun Ship line, would go on to become the early leader in waterslides at sea. The 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy, which debuted in 1990, was the first cruise ship with a significant waterslide. It measured 115 feet in length.

Just six years later, in 1996, Carnival would make news with the unveiling of a 214-foot-long corkscrew waterslide on what then was called Destiny. (The ship currently sails as the Carnival Sunshine after being rebuilt in 2013.) At the time, Destiny was the biggest cruise ship in the world.

In more recent years, Carnival has gone into waterslide-building overdrive. The line has added full-blown water park areas with waterslides, watery play zones and other features to all but four of its 25 ships. All but one of Carnival's ships (Carnival Luminosa) now have at least one waterslide.

One of the Carnival water parks, on the line's 5-year-old Carnival Horizon, even has Disney-style theming revolving around Dr. Seuss characters.

australian cruise ships with water slides

Norwegian, MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean only began going big with waterslides on ships in the past decade or so. Many of the newest vessels from the brands have massive water park areas. Some of the brands are retrofitting big waterslides onto older ships, too.

Additionally, family-focused Disney Cruise Line now has major water attractions on all its vessels.

Where you'll find the biggest waterslides at sea

If your idea of the perfect cruise ship is one loaded to the gills with waterslides and watery fun zones (plus all sorts of other over-the-top attractions), you'll want to stick to the biggest floating megaresorts operated by Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC Cruises and Carnival.

At Royal Caribbean, that means the giant Oasis-class vessels , which include Wonder of the Seas — the world's largest cruise ship. At Norwegian, you'll find the biggest waterslides and water parks on the line's relatively recently built Breakaway Plus-, Breakaway- and Epic-class ships. At MSC Cruises, the new Seaside-, Meraviglia-, Meraviglia Plus- and World-class vessels have the line's big water parks.

A large waterpark complex called WaterWorks sits atop Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship, Carnival Panorama. (Photo courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line).

Big lines that have steered clear of the water-park-at-sea trend include Princess Cruises, Holland America and Celebrity Cruises. Geared more toward couples than families and typically drawing an older demographic, all three of these lines have stuck to a more subdued feel for the outdoor areas of their ships. The top decks of vessels operated by Princess, Holland America and Celebrity still mostly revolve around traditional swimming areas with pools, hot tubs and lounge chairs.

Ready for a splashy, top-deck thrill? These are the most spectacular watery attractions at sea.

The Perfect Storm

Where you'll find it: Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas.

australian cruise ships with water slides

This isn't just one giant waterslide; it's a whole complex of waterslides, each one among the most exciting you'll find anywhere on the world's oceans.

The Perfect Storm is found on four of Royal Caribbean's massive Oasis-class vessels — Wonder of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas — as well as the smaller Liberty of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas. The complex includes two four-deck-high racer slides called Cyclone and Typhoon, where you can do side-by-side speed tests with your travel partner.

On the four Oasis-class ships, there's also a third, Champagne bowl-style slide called Supercell. It'll swirl you around a big basin before plummeting you "down the drain" into a plunge pool. On Liberty of the Seas, a third slide called The Tidal Wave sends you screaming down a steep hill on an inner tube to a nearly vertical incline. Zooming upward, topping out and dropping back, you'll get a blissful moment of complete weightlessness.

Note that Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas also has a waterslide area called Perfect Storm — but it's completely different. More on that in a moment.

The Blaster

Where you'll find it: Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas.

The Blaster on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas is the longest water slide at sea. (Photo courtesy of Royal Caribbean).

The Blaster is the Big Daddy of waterslides at sea. At 800 feet, it's the longest ever built on a cruise ship. Added to Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas in 2019, it's a seemingly endless stretch of yellow and orange tubing that winds around the back deck of the vessel like a snake.

A true sight to behold, The Blaster is so long because it's what's known as a water coaster. It features water jets that propel you up, down and forward — extending the ride — as you careen around the ship's basketball court and surfing simulator in an inner tube. At times, you go flying over the side of the ship, over open water (not that you have much time to take in the view).

Royal Caribbean has named the area on Navigator of the Seas where The Blaster is located the Perfect Storm — the same name used for waterslide areas on six other ships — but the area is completely different than what you'll find on the other vessels. In addition to The Blaster, the Perfect Storm area on Navigator of the Seas includes a headfirst mat racer slide called Riptide — the first of its kind at sea.

Where you'll find it: Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

Disney Fantasy waterslide

Leave it to family-focused Disney Cruise Line to come up with the coolest watery family attraction at sea. AquaDuck is a water coaster, like The Blaster on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, and is found on Disney's two Dream-class ships. But don't expect anything too white-knuckle. The ride is relatively gentle by water park standards, mainly because it's designed for kids of all ages (and their parents, who can ride along on inner tubes for two).

While AquaDuck is slightly shorter than The Blaster at 765 feet in length, it has a bigger presence, thanks to its prime location encircling the main pool area. If you're lounging up top, it's hard to miss the massive, clear acrylic tubing of the ride, which is held up by 46 giant white stilts.

In addition to AquaDuck, the two Disney ships with the attraction (Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream ) have a relatively small, kid-friendly waterslide next to the centrally located Mickey's Pool. Dubbed Mickey's Slide, it's held up by a giant Mickey hand, which is delightful. Both ships also have a watery play zone for toddlers called Nemo's Reef. Plus, Disney Fantasy has a watery fun zone with water jets, geysers and bubblers called AquaLab.

Note that Disney's newest ship — Disney Wish — has a water coaster attraction similar to the AquaDuck called the AquaMouse. The big difference: Riders will see animated shorts while riding up the ramp at the start of the ride.

Carnival WaterWorks

Where you'll find it: Nearly all Carnival ships.

australian cruise ships with water slides

When it comes to waterslides on ships, cruise giant Carnival is still the undisputed king. The Fun Ship line began adding them to vessels way back in 1978, and there's now at least one waterslide on every ship in the Carnival fleet — something no other line can say.

Indeed, on all Carnival ships, there's now not just a single waterslide but a whole water park area. Called WaterWorks, these areas vary in size and features from vessel to vessel, but they typically have one or two big waterslides, a watery play zone with interactive water features and a large continuously filling dump bucket that periodically soaks everybody within range.

You'll typically find the biggest Carnival water park complexes on the newest Carnival ships, such as Mardi Gras , Celebration and Carnival Venezia . All three have three waterslides — one more than most Carnival ships.

Aqua Park (Norwegian Cruise Line)

Where you'll find it: Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Encore.

The Epic Plunge on Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Epic. (Photo courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Line).

Norwegian Cruise Line began going big with waterslides in 2010 when it debuted Norwegian Epic. And boy, did it go big! Norwegian Epic offers three monster waterslides, including the thrilling Epic Plunge — a 200-foot-long tube ride that ends in a swirling bowl. Epic Plunge is part of Norwegian Epic's Aqua Park, the first water park on a Norwegian ship. Norwegian has since added Aqua Parks to six more new vessels, including its biggest ship, the 4-year-old Norwegian Encore .

Norwegian's Aqua Parks vary in size and attractions from ship to ship, but some of them, such as the one on Norwegian Breakaway, have as many as five separate multistory waterslides. Yes, you read that right: Five waterslides on a single cruise ship!

On Norwegian Breakaway, the lineup includes twin free-fall slides that drop passengers nearly straight down several stories; two side-by-side twisting racer slides; and a family-friendly slide with a more modest drop. For sheer variety, the complex is hard to beat.

Aqua Park (MSC Cruises)

Where you'll find it: MSC Seascape, MSC Seashore, MSC Seaview, MSC Seaside, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa, MSC Euribia, MSC World Europa.

australian cruise ships with water slides

Fast-growing MSC Cruises has joined the waterslide wars in the last few years — and in a massive way. Each of the 10 ships the line has unveiled since 2017 offers a full-blown water park on its top deck that's packed with waterslides and other watery fun.

On North America-based MSC Seaside, the Aqua Park has four waterslides and a children's play area with interactive water features. The waterslides include two massive, 525-foot-long dueling slides that extend over the sides of the ship. The top of the Aqua Park on MSC Seaside is also home to the liftoff point for a zip line that soars 344 feet across the top of the vessel.

Other MSC Cruises water parks at sea include the winter-themed Polar Aqua Park on MSC Meraviglia, which offers a suspended-in-the-sky ropes course in addition to four waterslides. There's also the Aquaplay area for the little ones.

Two MSC Cruises ships — MSC Seashore and MSC World Europa — even have virtual reality waterslides that involve riders wearing virtual reality headsets as part of the experience.

In all, 14 of MSC Cruises' 22 vessels now have at least one waterslide on their top decks.

10 Top Cruise Ships With Water Slides

Waterslides on cruise vessels have become an intrinsic part of a holiday at sea, offering exciting and memorable experiences to passengers of all ages. In the past few years, cruise lines have added many attractions to their ships, making them giant sailing cities with shopping areas, game zones, golf and race courses, operas, theatres, full-fledged water parks, and much more.

Water Parks on cruise ships provide a break from conventional activities by adding adventure and thrill to the cruising experience.

The colourful spiral slides that meander around the cruise ship’s deck in several shapes and sizes also give stunning ocean views through their translucent sections. Some slides have unique features, making them true engineering marvels.

However, when did the first slide on a cruise ship come up?

In the 1970s, when the cruise ship industry was still in its infancy, these vessels had a swimming pool, which was still considered a big thing at that time, given that cruise ships were relatively smaller.

However, by the 1980s, Carnival decided to add a single water slide to its 35,000 gross tonne Festivale, capable of accommodating at least 728 guests. This is often said to be the first water slide ever added to a cruise ship. This water slide was like the one found on backyard pools, but it made Carnival an early leader in incorporating water slides in cruise ships.

In 1990, Carnival Fantasy debuted and became the first cruise ship with a proper slide measuring 115 ft. Six years later, in 1996, Carnival made headlines when it unveiled a 214-foot long corkscrew waterslide on the Destiny, now called the Carnival Sunshine, which was at that time, the biggest cruise ship in the world

Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean began adding waterslides on their ships in the past decade. Many new ships of these lines now have massive waterparks. Disney Cruise Line does have water parks however they are not as crazy since Disney focusses on a family experience, hence has many attractions for kids.

This article will take you through 10 top cruise ships with water slides. So make sure you add these cruise ships to your list to enjoy watery adventures on your next cruise vacation.

1. Perfect Storm Waterslide on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas

Wonder of the Seas has more than one giant slide. Instead, it has a whole complex with 2 four-deck high slides, named Typhoon and Cyclone, part of the Perfect Storm. These two boldest waterslides at sea, placed side by side, allow one to have a water-slide race with your partner, friend or family member.

Perfect Storm Waterslide on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas

The slides have some translucent sections offering beautiful sea views, too. The Perfect Storm is on three of the cruise line’s Oasis Class Ships apart from the Wonder of the Seas. It is found on Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.

It is important to note that the Royal Carribean’s Navigator of the Seas also has a waterslide complex called the Perfect Storm, but it is entirely different from the one on Wonder of the Seas.

2. The Blaster On Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas

The Perfect Storm complex on Navigator of the Seas is different from the ones found on other ships of the cruise line.

It features the Blaster, the longest aqua coaster ever built on a cruise ship. At 800 ft, this feels like an endless stretch of the yellow-orange tube that curls around the back deck of the cruise ship.

The Blaster On Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas

It is one of the most famous attractions of the Navigator of the Seas. Blaster has a hydraulic system with 5 water jets propelling you and your partner up, down and forward on the ship. Sometimes, one flies over the ship’s side into the open water onboard.

Apart from the Blaster, there is also a headfirst mat racer slide, the Riptide, one of its kind ever built on a cruise ship.

Navigator of the Seas was upgraded in 2019 with €115 million. It was then that water slides, laser tags and an escape room were added to keep it up-to-date and desirable for passengers who love water slides.

3. WaterWorks On Carnival’s Mardi Gras

There is at least one waterslide on each cruise ship of Carnival, something other cruise lines cannot boast about. All Carnival cruises have a water park area, the WaterWorks. However, it differs in size and features from vessel to vessel.

This water park area onboard Mardi Gras comprises 3 massive spiralling water slides, a big dumping bucket that soaks everyone with a splash, twin racing slides and several interactive water features.

WaterWorks On Carnival’s Mardi Gras

Blue Lightning is known for its high-speed turns and twists; meanwhile, Orange Thunder propels you into the water. The Twister slide is another famous slide among water enthusiasts.

The biggest water park areas or complexes onboard Carnival Cruise Ships are found on the newest additions, such as the Celebration, Carnival Venezia and the Mardi Gras. These ships have 3 waterslides, 1 more than most cruise ships of the line.

4. Aqua Park on Norwegian Encore

The largest ship in the fleet of Norwegian Cruise Line is the Norwegian Encore, 1094 ft long with a Gross Register Tonnage of 169,116.

This behemoth has 2 multistory water slides, the Aqua Racer, racing slides and the Ocean Loops Slide that stretches out to the ship’s side.

Aqua Park on Norwegian Encore

The Aqua Park has small water slides for kids too, along with a splash area with buckets that drench those who stand below them. One can also enjoy a water fight using the water cannons available at the park.

Norwegian Cruise Line added massive waterslides on its ships in 2010 with Norwegian Epic. It has 3 monster waterslides and an Epic Plunge, a 200-foot-long ride ending in a swirling bowl.

Epic Plunge is a part of Norwegian Epic’s Aqua Park, which was the first water park on a Norwegian cruise ship. Since then, the line has added Aqua Parks to 6 more new ships, including the biggest ship, Norwegian Encore.

Another ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, has twin free-fall water slides that drop you down many stories, 2 twisting racer slides, and a family slide with a modest drop.

5. AquaMouse on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish

The newest ship of the Disney Cruise line is Disney Wish, which has a water coaster called the AquaMouse.

It is different from other ships of the line as riders can see animated shorts of Disney movies and Mickey Mouse clips as they ride up the ramp at the start of the ride.

AquaMouse on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish

Riders experience show scenes, lighting, and special sound effects while having a fun-filled ride around and off the ship through the 760-foot twisting tubes.

The Disney Wish also has 10 pools apart from a Toy Story Splash Zone, with huge rubber toys and the Slide-a-saurus Rex family slide.

The family-focused Disney Cruise Line has one of the coolest water slides and attractions. Their ships have a water coaster called AquaDuck, similar to the Blaster on Royal Caribbean Ships.

The water ride is relatively gentle by the standards of water parks since it is designed for kids and their parents who can ride along.

Although the AquaDuck is shorter than the Balster at 765 ft, it is nothing less, given its location surrounding the main pool area on the Disney ships.

Apart from the AquaDuck, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have small, kids-friendly waterslides close to the Mickey pool, called Mickey’s Slide.

These two ships also have a water play zone for toddlers called the Nemo’s Reef. Disney Fantasy also has a water zone with geysers, water jets and bubblers called AquaLab.

6. Aqua Park On the MSC Europa

MSC Cruises’ ships also boast water slides, and all the cruise ships unveiled by the cruise line after 2017 have a water park area, usually on the top deck, where all the watery fun begins.

MSC Europa’s Aqua Park has four criss-cross water slides above the deck, along with the use of virtual technology that makes the ride interesting and an interactive experience. There is also a dedicated pool for toddlers.

Aqua Park On the MSC Europa

MSC Seaside’s Aqua Park has 4 slides and a children’s play area. However, these waterslides are massive, two being 25-foot-long slides that stretch over the ship’s sides.

MSC Meraviglia has a winter-themed Polar Aqua Park and an Aquaplay area for the kids. About 14 of MSC Cruises’ 22 Ships have at least one waterslide on their top decks.

7. Twister Waterslide on Carnival Vista

Carnival Vista is said to be one of the most fun ships to be on, with many exciting things to do, attractions to visit and nightlife that doesn’t seem to end.

The highlight of Carnival Vista’s WaterWorks has to be the Twister Waterslide, which is the equivalent of hundreds of feet of spirals that start high and get you down with one of the fastest and wettest water rides ever designed on a cruise ship.

Twister Waterslide on Carnival Vista

Gallons of water rush through the slide so one is not dry, and by the time one reaches the end of the twists and turns, there is another big splash awaiting you. The ride is open to all; however, height and weight restrictions are applicable.

Then comes the DrainPipe, which ends with a major swirl while the PowerDrencher soaks you completely from above.

8. Supercell on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas welcomes over 4,000 guests on its 16 decks packed with full-on entertainment, delicious dining options and so on. The ship has 7 differently themed neighbourhoods, like the revolutionary Boardwalk and Central Park space.

Harmony of the Seas sails in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, making it perfect for family holidays, couple trips and even a solo adventure.

Supercell on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas

This action-packed cruise ship is particularly famous for its impressive waterslides. Young guests can enjoy Splashaway Bay, while adults can check out some really exhilarating waterslides.

The twin slides, Typhoon and Cyclone, are fun to race on with your partner. They have stretches of a see-through tunnel, making it even more fun. Another slide is called the Supercell, which has several loops, turns and twists. This ride is surely not for the faint of heart.

9. Dr Seuss WaterWorks On Carnival Horizon

Carnival Horizon is the 26th ship of the Carnival Fleet and the 2nd cruise ship of the line’s Vista Class. She has a 133,596 gross tonnage that can accommodate almost 4000 passengers and 1450 crew members.

This bold and beautiful ship is loaded with fun activities, perfect for families since it has a lot of kids clubs and dining places with reduced prices for children under 12.

Dr Seuss WaterWorks On Carnival Horizon

The cruise does not disappoint adults since it has the 2-screen Carnival Multiplex that combines one theatre with IMAX action and the other with stunning 3D visuals.

Not to forget that the ship has a Dr Seuss WaterWorks, for all those who love the waterpark fun. There is the Twister Waterslide, racing slides, the DrainPipe and the ultimate PowerDrencher.

The ship also has a SkyRide, the Punchliner Comedy Club and Playlist Productions, two of the top onboard entertainment options.

10. AquaDunk On Disney Magic

Disney Magic, like all other Disney cruise ships is known for its fun disney rides. It has the Twist ‘n’ Spout and the Aquadunk. The former is a relaxing, and a children-friendly waterslide, the latter is a thrilling ride extending over the ship’s side.

The AquaDunk begins with a steep drop before it goes into a clear tube shooting out of the ship. This ride was added to the Disney Magic when it was being renovated in 2013, making it the only ship with an AquaDunk.

AquaDunk On Disney Magic

While one climbs the stairs to the top, there are storyboards about how the AquaDunk came into being. It was Donald’s nephews Louie, Dewey and Huey who created its design.

Then Donald tested many prototypes before finally selecting the current design the guests experience on the Disney Dream.

The AquaDunk is positioned on Deck 13 and after you climb to the top, you enter a clear capsule where you stand with arms crossed and count to the point when the bottom platform opens, dropping you into the slide. The ride is 212 feet or 3 stories.

It is a single rider waterslide with no tube or float to ride in. Guests must be 48 inches to experience this slide.

5 Best Cruise Ship Water Parks

australian cruise ships with water slides

Cruise ship water parks are the sort of attractions that often end up being feature around which you base your entire cruise game plan -- particularly for families. Cruisers often fall into two categories when it comes to water parks on cruise ships -- either you and your gang must have slides and splash parks onboard, or you have never given them much thought at all. Either way, knowing which cruise ship water parks rise above the rest can be an important factor in your hunt for the perfect cruise vacation.

Cruise ship water parks, usually topped by a jumble of cascading tubes in brilliant colors, are an especially attractive diversion on cruise itineraries in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and other warm-weather destinations offered by most cruise lines. And the onboard water park game grows more daring, more techno-oriented, and frankly, more fun each year, with features and attractions that rival those on land. When it comes to the best cruise ship water parks at sea, five cruise lines stand out because of their impressive aquatic chops. Here are our favorites.

The Splashy Leader in Cruise Ship Water Parks is Carnival WaterWorks

Carnival Horizon's Dr. Seuss WaterWorks (Photo: Cruise Critic)

Offering the largest fleet of water parks at sea by far, Carnival Cruise Line is known for keeping things fun and light, even while drenched head to toe. Each of Carnival's cruise ships feature at least one spiraling waterslide, but more than half have a version of Carnival's more extravagant WaterWorks aqua park, which includes, at minimum, a 300-foot slide and side-by-side racing slides among other water features.

The newest water parks are on Carnival's newest cruise ships, Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration , both of which feature a pair of see-through spiral racing slides, Blue Lightning and Orange Thunder, plus the line’s signature Twister waterslide. Add in a giant dumping bucket and an enormous splash space and you’ve got a floating paradise for water park lovers. Plus, all that wet fun is topped off on both vessels with the addition of Bolt , by the only rollercoaster at sea.

Carnival Breeze , Carnival Magic and Carnival Dream offer Twister and DrainPipe, a 104-foot tube that empties into a giant funnel. Carnival Breeze and Carnival Magic also have PowerDrencher tipping buckets, mini-racers and splash parks.

The WaterWorks area onboard Carnival Sunshine edges out the other slides with a 334-foot-long Twister waterslide, twin 235-foot-long slides that are part of Speedway Splash, mini-racers, a splash park, PowerDrencher and a total of 40 interactive water features.

Carnival Vista and Carnival Panorama , meanwhile, feature an enclosed water tube Kaleid-O-Slide, on which riders make their way around 455 feet of twists and turns on one- or two-person rafts. As if that weren't dizzying enough, the Kaleid-O-Slide actually looks like a kaleidoscope, with colorful rotating lights and trippy visual effects.

Carnival Horizon features the cruise line's only Dr. Seuss-themed WaterWorks, with a striped Cat in the Hat slide, a polka-dotted Fun Things slide featuring special effects, and of course buckets, mini-racers and a splash area.

MSC Cruises' Aqua Parks Come in a Variety of Themes

Forest Aquaventure Park on MSC Seaside (Photo: Cruise Critic)

Mediterranean cruise line MSC Cruises aims to be family friendly, and it has solidified -- or, rather, liquefied -- this promise with a variety of water parks onboard its ships.

One of the line's newest vessels, MSC Seascape , aims to entertain the North American cruise market with its Pirate’s Cove Aqua Park, with an obvious pirate ship theme enhanced by virtual reality. Connected to the ship’s main pool, Pirate’s Cove has four water slides, water cannons, and climbing features.

Near-sister ship MSC Seaside , meanwhile, entices cruise travelers with a state-of-the-art Forest Aquaventure water park. Deep greens, blues and browns come together in a jungle atmosphere. The area includes five waterslides: two high-speed racing slides with clear loops that extend over one side of the ship; Aquatube, an innertube slide; a flume slide for families; and an interactive Slideboarding tube, which combines video games, lights and music with a 367-foot waterslide.

And onboard MSC Meraviglia , the theme shifts to snow and ice in the Polar Aquapark, where cruisers can race down three slides amid wading pools and water cannons adorned with statues of polar aquatic animals like orcas and walrus.

Other water park offerings on MSC ships include an AquaPlay and AquaSpray park for young cruisers.

Disney Pours Entertainment into Cruise Ship Water Parks

Disney Magic Activity/Entertainment

It’s no surprise that Disney Cruise Line would infuse its onboard water parks with a bit of Disney entertainment.

All of Disney's cruise ships feature an aquatic ride of some sort. Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream have the water park fan-favorite AquaDuck -- an elevated two-person-raft "water coaster," made up of a 765-foot-long tube that veers out over the side of the ship. Both ships also have Mickey’s Slide and Mr. Ray’s Slide in the Nemo’s Reef area for the 8 and under cruisers.

Disney Magic steps it up with AquaDunk, a more edgy slide version of its predecessor. The ride on this three-story body slide begins when a trap door opens beneath your feet. The drop sends you through a clear tube that extends 20 feet over the side of the ship, so it's not for Mouseketeers with vertigo. Sister ship Disney Wonder has a Twist ‘n’ Spout, a looping, 250-foot slide for the whole family, with a minimum ridership height of only 38 inches.

The newest of the primo slides Disney offers is onboard Disney Wish , where Aqua Mouse starts with a story on screens inside the beginning of the 760-foot two-seater tube ride. Wish also has Slide-a-saurus Rex and toddler Toy Story slides.

Norwegian Cruise Line Expands Its Water Parks at Sea

Epic Plunge on Norwegian Epic (Photo: Norwegian Cruise Line)

It’s possible to cruise on different ships across NCL’s fleet experiencing different waterslides on each ship, while some of the line's oldest vessels don't offer waterparks onboard at all. If this is an important feature to you, be sure to consult your ship's deck plans first, or read our detailed reviews .

NCL’s newest ship, Norwegian Prima , debuts a new class of ships for the line, along with a new waterslide – a single-rider tube ride called The Wave. A kid’s splash and play zone is nearby. And though they aren’t water slides, Norwegian Prima has two thrillingly fast dry slide attractions – The Drop, which is exactly as it sounds, a 10-story free fall down the side of the ship; and The Rush, a pair of intertwined racing slides also covering ten stories.

Meanwhile, fleemate Norwegian Escape’s water park includes a Free Fall waterslide, plus a feature called the Aqua Racer slide, a tandem set of waterslides in which competitors can race side by side in tubes.

The water park has four slides total, including a family-friendly enclosed tube slide near the dedicated kids play area, a two-story climbing structure, and water cannons and buckets that deliver "surprise drenchings." A multistory tower, a rope bridge and lookout platform are among the areas that kids can explore. They'll find spray jets to interact with along the way.

Dedicated to maximizing time spent outside among sun and sea, Breakaway-class ships Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway each have up to five multistory waterslides, including the scream-inducing Free Fall. A playful splash area for the babes keeps company with gentle water features, while nearby, full-grown adults build up the courage to take on Free Fall with an unsettling countdown until the floor drops beneath your feet (a 250-foot fall straight down -- whoosh!). Two side-by-side racing slides, known as The Whip, twist sharply into pools below and, of course, there's a family-friendly slide for the littlest splashers.

Norwegian Bliss features a freefall waterslide called Ocean Loops that drops two loops -- both extending over the side of the ship with sections of see-through tubing. Norwegian Epic has a 200-foot Epic Plunge, beginning four stories above its pool deck and ending in a giant orange bowl.

Cruise Ship Water Parks Aren’t Just About Slides; Royal Caribbean Started with Flow Riders

The FlowRider surfing simulator aboard Wonder of the Seas (Photo: Aaron Saunders)

Flow Rider surfing simulators have become synonymous with water fun onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships. All but the line’s smallest classes of ships now include one or two Flow Riders. Add in the lines’ signature waterslides, and there’s plenty of fun for everyone. The mainstay across much of the fleet is called Perfect Storm, consisting of a pair of racing slides called Cyclone and Typhoon, with a third slide – a bowl-shaped slide called Super Cell added on some ships, including Wonder of the Seas .

Liberty of the Seas has a boomerang-style two-person raft ride called Tidal Wave, and Navigator of the Seas has two unique slides – Blaster and Riptide.

The line’s water parks also include well-designed splash areas for young cruisers. Allure , Anthem , Freedom , Independence , Oasis and Quantum of the Seas feature the H2O Zone, which is perfect for babies and toddlers.

Adventure , Freedom, Harmony , Independence, Liberty, Oasis, Ovation , Spectrum , Symphony , and Wonder of the Seas cater to kiddos with a few smaller waterslides and more substantial water features at Splashaway Bay.

And although it's not a waterslide, to catch even more speed and thrills, head to the Ultimate Abyss, a dry slide on Harmony, Oasis, Symphony and Wonder of the Seas to whiz down ten decks, ending on the Boardwalk.

The Best Cruise Ships With Water Slides

If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to keep children entertained on a cruise, it’s a good water slide!

Cruise ship water slides in 2024 are bigger, faster and wetter than ever before. In fact, the water slides you’ll find on ships from cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line aren’t just for kids – you’ll find plenty of adults lining up to take their turn too.

Disney Cruise Line Aqua Duck

If you’re a water slide lover, the slides can be an important factor in choosing a ship for your next cruise. If you’re looking to sail on a cruise ship with the best water slides, read on…

1. Navigator of the Seas

Cruise ship with the biggest water slide.

The longest water slide on a cruise ship is The Blaster, which you’ll find on board Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas. This whopping 800-foot-long slide was added to the ship as part of an £88 million refurbishment in February 2019.

The Blaster - Navigator of the Seas

To ride The Blaster, you’ll use an inflatable raft, either alone or with a friend.  This is a really fun slide with twists and turns through different coloured sections. Some parts of the slide are enclosed and others are open, there’s even an uphill section and a clear part that extends over the side of the ship!

As if that wasn’t enough, Navigator of the Seas also has another amazing slide. Right next to The Blaster, you’ll find The Riptide. This multi-coloured tube slide is a head-first mat racer waterslide – the first of its kind at sea. This slide is lots of fun – as long as you don’t mind getting your face wet!

Restrictions for Royal Caribean’s Blaster slide:

  • Minimum height – 45 inches
  • Minimum weight – 110lbs for one rider
  • Maximum weight – 400lbs for two riders

Restrictions for Royal Caribean’s Riptide slide:

  • Minimum height – 42 inches
  • Maximum weight – 300lbs

2. Norwegian Breakaway

Cruise ship with the fastest water slide.

The fastest water slide on a cruise ship is the Free Fall slide which can be found on three of Norwegian Cruise Line’s ships – Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Escape.

Free Fall - Norwegian Breakaway

This slide looks cool as it’s shaped like a big loop – you drop down it and whizz upwards again. Once you ride the Free Fall, you’ll know why it’s shaped like that – the uphill part of the loop is to slow you down!

The ride starts when you step into a chamber and stand with your arms crossed as a voice counts down from three. Then, suddenly, the floor drops away and you free fall down the slide, experiencing a g-force of 4 gs. (To help you understand g-force, zero gravity is no g-force, normal gravity is 1g and 5 gs will cause some people to pass out.)

The Free Fall is made up of two identical side by side slides, just in case you need moral support but can’t agree who will go down first!

Restrictions for NCL’s Free Fall slide:

  • Minimum height – 48 inches
  • Minimum weight – 99lbs

3. Disney Wish

The best cruise ship water slide for younger kids.

Not everyone likes to get splashed in the face or to feel like they might die when they ride a water slide. If you’d prefer a gentler ride, or your children aren’t tall enough for some of the bigger and faster slides at sea, then Disney Cruise Line’s AquaMouse is just perfect.

Disney Wish AquaMouse water slide

The AquaMouse is considered the first proper Disney Attraction at Sea – meaning it has all the immersive entertainment you’d expect from one of the rides at the Disney theme parks.

The AquaMouse can be found on Disney Wish, and is coming to Disney Treasure too, with different theming/a different story.

This slide is not much shy of being the longest waterslide on a cruise ship, with a length of 760 feet. Riding solo or in a pair, riders use an inflatable raft to coast along, down dips and over uphill blasts whilst enjoying lights, sounds and a story.

Restrictions for the Disney’s AquaMouse slide:

  • Minimum height to ride alone – 54 inches

You can read more about how the waterslides compare on each Disney cruise ship here: Disney Cruise Water Slides.

4. Norwegian Epic

The most fun water slide on a cruise ship.

One more water slide that I couldn’t possibly leave out of this article about the best water slides on cruise ships is Norwegian Cruise Line’s Epic Plunge.

Epic Plunge - Norwegian Epic

Epic Plunge, which can be found only on NCL’s Norwegian Epic cruise ship, is unique in that it has a large bowl where you whizz round and round before plopping out the bottom.

This is my favourite kind of water slide – it’s just so much fun. To make this slide even more interesting, guests can choose whether they want to ride with or without an inflatable ring. MSC Virtuosa also has a similar slide but without the option of the ring.

This slide is 200 feet long but feels much longer as you’re never quite sure how many times you’ll spin around the bowl before slowing down and falling through the middle.

Restrictions for NCL’s Epic Plunge slide:

  • Minimum height is 42 inches

5. Icon of the Seas

Icon of the Seas is the newest cruise ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet, and she’s one of the top options for a cruise ship with water slides.

That’s because her waterpark includes the following:

  • Frightening Bolt – the tallest drop slide at sea
  • Storm Chasers – the first duo mat-racing slides at sea
  • Hurricane Hunter – the first family raft slide at sea
  • Storm Surge – the first suspended family raft ride at sea
  • Pressure Drop – the first open freefall slide at sea

Sound exciting? Read more with my guide to Icon of the Seas waterslides .

Which Slide Would You Like to Try?

So now you’ve heard about the biggest water slides on a cruise ship, the fastest water slides, and a few which are just really fun. Have you been lucky enough to try any of these? Please share your experience in the comments below. I’d love to know if you found the Free Fall as terrifying as I did!

And if you’re looking for a cruise with water slides, now you know some of the best ships to look for. There are lots of options for a cruise ship with water park facilities, though not all cruise lines have slides – so be careful to check when you book.

Water slide guide.

Picture this: you’re sailing on one of the world’s majestic cruise ships with your family surrounded by stunning views of the open sea as you travel between incredible bucket-list-worthy destinations. How could it get any better, we hear you ask? Two words: water slides .

Onboard water slides are a perfect addition to any cruise line's entertainment line-up, providing fun for all the family and keeping thrill-seeking kids entertained for hours. Whether you're sliding down high-speed water slides as a family or watching your kids race each other on incredible slides, choosing a liner topped with colourful twisting and turning slides is always a great idea. So why not make a splash and start planning your next adventure at sea on an incredible cruise liner with a great variety of water slides and pools on offer? Let our water slide guide help you find the perfect cruise holiday that caters to your whole family, from the little ones to the big kids.

What to expect

Get ready to experience the time of your life! If you're a fan of heart-racing water slides and water-based activities intended to get your heart racing, then you're in for a treat. You'll be amazed by the awesome selection of water slides that are available on family-friendly cruise ships sailing to sunny destinations like the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Whether it’s record-breaking fast slides or kids’ splash parks – the world’s liners have it all covered.

This is your chance to experience an adrenaline-fueled adventure at sea. You'll be twisting, turning, dropping and dipping your way through an array of exciting water-based entertainment options while hopping between islands, cities and beaches around the globe. So grab your swimming gear and get ready to expect the unexpected, because unforgettable holiday experiences await you!

Water slide safety tips

Nobody wants to worry about potential injuries on holiday, especially when little ones are involved. So to make sure your cruise remains accident-free and the fun can continue, follow our top safety tips…

No running or diving

The area around the Lido Deck can become a bit slippery, especially if you're walking around barefoot. So, just like you would at any pool, take care around the pool edges and don’t run.  Remember, it's not a race, and you'll get your turn eventually. Also, you might feel a bit wobbly due to the waves, so take your time while walking around the pool and slide areas to avoid any slips or falls. Diving is also a big no-no in most cruise ship pools because of the depth and size.

Streamline for speed (and safety)

The more streamlined you are, the better and safer the experience will be. Keep your arms tucked in and your legs together to travel faster and keep yourself from banging or knocking your limbs whilst in transit down the slide. You’ll thank us later.

Keep a close eye on little ones

Most pool and water slide areas will have a qualified and experienced lifeguard on duty who can swoop in if needs be. But it still doesn’t hurt to keep a close watch on any kids when they’re enjoying themselves at the onboard water park. Make sure you’re sat somewhere you can clearly see them and make sure they meet all necessary criteria before trying to ride something.

Things to Remember

So with our top safety tips in mind, what else do cruise passengers need to remember before sailing off onboard a cruise ship with water slides? From what to pack to following guidelines, here are a few extra things to think about.

Things to pack

If you’re planning on making the most of the exhilarating slides onboard your cruise ship, it’s a no-brainer that you’ll need to pack your swimwear. Don’t forget the swimming costumes, bikinis, swimming shorts, armbands and goggles!

Remove valuable items

The last thing you want to do is lose your most beloved piece of jewellery or misplace your wallet when you leave it on a lounger to whizz down a water slide or two. Prevent any worry of this happening by leaving any valuables in the safe provided in your cabin.

Follow guidelines

Remember, following any age and height restrictions is essential to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time on the cruise to the fullest. Take the time to familiarise yourself with the guidelines before you embark on your adventure, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need any clarification of the rules. Although little ones might be disappointed that they can’t try some of the more extreme water slides, it’s still important to stick to the guidance to keep everyone safe.

Of course, don’t forget to have fun! Cruises are all about unwinding and taking on extraordinary experiences, and there’s no better way to do this than to spend time splashing, sliding and swirling on the water slides available. You’re sure to have plenty of laughs and happy memories from your time on these water-based attractions.

Which Cruise Lines have water slides?

You can find water slides onboard selected ships from the following cruise lines:

  • NCL Cruises
  • Costa Cruises
  • Princess Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Carnival Cruises

Best cruise ship water slides & pools

If you’re the type of cruise passenger who thrives on life’s thrills and fancies entertainment options that go beyond sitting at the bar or catching some rays on the deck, then you’ll want to take a closer look at some of the best, most adrenaline-pumping water slides the world’s cruise ships have to offer.

Here are five of our favourites that are sure to keep adults and kids equally as entertained…

Speedway Splash, Carnival Cruise Lines (Carnival Sunshine)

The two tallest structures on most cruise ships tend to be the funnel and communications mast, but  Carnival Sunshine  dares to be different with its Speedway Splash water slide. Towering four stories above deck ten, this 334-foot-long slide takes those who are brave enough on the ride of a lifetime over the sea and back down onto deck again at startling speeds. Not one for the faint-hearted!

Green Thunder, Carnival Cruise Lines (Carnival Spirit)

Prepare for a lightning-fast slide experience on this green monster aboard the  Carnival Spirit . As one of the fastest, steepest and most exhilarating waterslides at sea, you can guarantee to have the experience of a lifetime as you slip and slide along at unimaginably fast speeds.

Epic Plunge, Norwegian Cruise Line (Norwegian Epic)

Sitting majestically at four stories above the pool deck on the  Norwegian Epic  and at over 200 feet long, the Epic Plunge certainly lives up to its name. Riders plummet down the enclosed tube as they grip onto a rubber ring before being launched out into a giant bowl that looks like something from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. After some swirling and splashing around, you’re eventually plunged through another hole in the centre of the bowl which drops out into a pool of water for a nice, cushioned landing.

Free Fall, Norwegian Cruise Line (Norwegian Breakaway/Norwegian Getaway)

Fancy testing your bravery on one of the biggest and best water slides at sea? We thought so! Norwegian Breakaway’s Free Fall water slide pits two brave souls against one another, side-by-side, where they wait for a trap door to open before plunging into the watery depths below.

The  Norwegian Breakaway  and the  Norwegian Getaway  ships have the largest water parks in the entire fleet, including five multi-story waterslides, two swimming pools and four hot tubs, giving you more water fun than ever before!

Vertigo, MSC Cruises ( MSC Preziosa )

Make no mistake - MSC’s Vertigo slide is not for the faint-hearted. Those who are brave enough to challenge it should prepare to hurtle through the 400-foot-long slide at speeds reaching 13mph. No biggie for the thrill seekers among us! Towering atop Deck 18 of MSC Preziosa, riders are taken on a twisting, turning journey that’s filled with moments of madness and surprise. But the ride really lives up to its name thanks to the strobe effect that riders experience as they whizz through the sections with coloured bands.

P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter Set to Make a Splash with New Twin-Racer Slides and Adventure Park

P&O Cruises Australia’s Brisbane-ported ship, Pacific Encounter, has today become the first in the brand’s fleet to call into Darwin since the resumption of cruising. Her maiden call is part of a 14-night ‘Indonesian Explorer’ repositioning cruise to Singapore, where she will undergo a three-week dry dock.

Highly anticipated additions during drydock will include the installation of the 142-metre-long and 16-metre-high Twin-Racer waterslide and the P&O Edge Adventure Park. The Adventure Park, designed for thrill-seekers, will feature a 55-metre-long Zipline, Rock Climbing wall, Cargo Net, Walk the Plank, and Beam Walk; each sitting a heart-stopping 10 metres above Deck 16.

Marguerite Fitzgerald, President of P&O Cruises Australia, says the anticipation of Pacific Encounter’s arrival into Singapore next week is building.

“These exciting additions will mark the completion our three-fleet transformation and bring us yet another step closer to a full and ‘normal’ cruising season. And of course, we look forward to welcoming our Brisbane guests back onboard and seeing the joy as they race down the new slides and test out the adrenalin-pumping activities at sea when she returns.”

The brief drydock next month follows the vessel’s major transformation in 2022, which unveiled P&O’s new Byron Beach Club concept, Luke’s Bar & Grill and 400 Gradi celebrity Chef restaurants, an F45 Fitness Studio, Black Circus Theatre, as well as contemporary bars and cafes including the Encounter Hotel, Bonded Store and Altitude nightclub.

This initial work was completed ahead of her return to Australia in August, where she made history as the first cruise ship to return to Brisbane to resume year-round cruising, home-porting at the new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal.

The 1730 guests currently onboard the 14-night cruise will join Pacific Encounter in celebrating even more history-making moments as she becomes the first ship in the P&O fleet to complete further maiden calls into Benoa/Bali and Lombok in Indonesia, before arriving in Singapore on Monday 6 February.

Pacific Encounter will recommence her full program itineraries from Brisbane in March, visiting 24 unique destinations within Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific this year. Visit www.pocruises.com.au for more information.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

We’re counting down the Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides that’ll have you slip-sliding your way to the wettest, wild fun at sea.

As more cruise ships are raising the bar on exciting things to do onboard, we’ve seen an explosion of new water parks and slides from just about every major family-focused cruise line. Not only have we seen these watery wonderlands coming onboard new ships, but many dry dock refurbishments include major redesigns to include some incredible new attractions.

Highlighting the best of the best, we present our list of the Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides.

(10) Vertigo

MSC Cruises has been adding bigger and better water parks to each of their ships in recent years. At 394 feet, Vertigo onboard MSC Preziosa is one of the longest water slides at sea. Snaking around the ship’s funnel, this slide features great lighting effects, a 30 foot clear section over the side of the ship and 42 feet of drop from start to finish.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(9) Speedway Splash

Onboard Carnival Sunshine, you’ll enjoy one of the biggest Carnival WaterWorks in the fleet. Carnival guests are used to fun water slides, but when Carnival Destiny was transformed into Carnival Sunshine in 2013, the cruise line went big on the splashing thrills and chills. Along with the signature twister waterslide, Speedway Splash puts riders head-to-head in a timed race. The dual 235-foot long slides feature quick turns, lighting effects and even checkered flag sections to amp up the competitive fun of challenging friends and family to splashing speed superiority.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(8) Supercell

Royal Caribbean has been pulling out the stops to introduce some of the most exciting and unique water slides at sea. While Supercell is not the first champagne bowl slide on a cruise ship, it certainly takes the experience up a few notches. It starts with a long walk up to the loading platform where you’ll get an incredible view over the ship. From the moment you enter the transparent tube, you’ll get the sensation of height as you’re briefly suspended 10 decks above Central Park. Available on Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas and recently amped-up Oasis of the Seas, Supercell is fast with quick turns, before you get shot out into the bowl, plunge down the drain and into the landing pad.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(7) AquaDuck

As the first of its kind at sea when introduced and found onboard Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, AquaDuck is part water coaster, part lazy river, taking guests on a thrilling wet and wild ride. Starting from within the ship’s aft funnel, riders make their way over the side of the ship on a two-person raft, then get propelled through two water jet incline sections, before shooting down the clear tube through the forward funnel and back around the other side of the ship all while enjoying incredible views.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(6) Green Thunder

The menacing drop slide Green Thunder, found onboard Carnival Spirit, Pride, Legend & Miracle takes the thrill factor way up as it plummets you way down. The 187-foot-long slide pulls the floor from under its riders and drops them 34 feet while reaching speeds of up to 25 mph. Blasting through the inside of the green translucent tube, it ends with splashing jolt. The ride on Green Thunder is quick, but the sensation will linger.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(5) Riptide

Face the awesome thrills head-on with Riptide , cruising’s only headfirst mat racer, added to Navigator of the Seas during her massive 2019 amplification. While riding belly-down on a thin mat, Riptide puts riders closer to the water, so close in fact, that they’ll feel the lightly stinging water spray on their face all the way down to an exhilarating finish through a translucent tube.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(4) AquaDunk

Exclusive to Disney Magic, the AquaDunk plunges guests on a fast and wild ride. The countdown to fun begins in 3, 2, 1 before the floor drops sending riders over the edge of the ship and through 212 feet of twisting slippery slide, finishing with a super soaking splashdown.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(3) Tidal Wave

The one and only boomerang slide at sea, Tidal Wave, found onboard Liberty of the Seas, is perfect for adventure seekers. Tidal Wave features a steep drop that sends riders up a near vertical wall for a moment of weightlessness then backwards into free fall and splashdown.

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(2) Ocean Loops

Norwegian Cruise Line has improved upon the already exciting drop slide, with Ocean Loops. Found onboard Norwegian Joy, Bliss and Encore, Ocean Loops starts with the nerve-racking uncertainly of when will you drop, then you hit the mind-shaking double loops while flying over the side of the ship through the clear tube sections high above the oceans’ surface. Is that vertigo setting in?

Top 10 Cruise Ship Water Slides

(1) The Blaster

Combining the wet with the wild, Navigator of the Seas main attraction water slide, The Blaster, is the first aqua coaster onboard Royal Caribbean and the longest slide at sea.. Grab your two-person raft and ride the more than 800 feet of water blasting inclines, heart-pounding drops and tight turns while you crisscross in and around the sports deck below.

Norwegian Cruise Lines

Norwegian Cruise Lines has some of the coolest water parks at sea on their Breakaway, Epic & Breakaway Plus Classes of ships. From high above the 17th deck, you’ll look out over the crystal blue waters as you’re about to slip and slide 200 ft to the pool below and think “I can’t believe I’m doing this in the middle of the ocean.” It’s pretty cool. If you don’t believe me, check out the video below.

Breakaway Plus Ships

The Breakaway Plus class of ships, which includes the Joy, Escape and Bliss, offer the Aqua Racer and Ocean Loops waterslides, the latter of which has a loops out over the ships edge. Check out this video from the inside the Norwegian Joy’s Aqua Racer slide:

Breakaway Ships

NCL’s Breakaway and Getaway, with 5 water slides, multi-stories high, including the fastest drop slide at sea – the Free Fall, 2 swimming pools & 4 hot tubs there’s hours of aqua enjoyment for the young and young-at-heart.

On Epic class ships, along with other water slides, you’ll find the only bowl slide at sea – the Epic Plunge – which takes spinning down 200ft!

Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival Cruises has long been known as having the “fun ships” and their water park offerings are no exceptions.

While the configuration of waterworks may vary, it is offered on the majority of its ships….and it’s not just for kids, either. There are different types of slides – speed slides, some with side-by-side racing action, the Twister Waterslide, taking you down hundreds of feet with its twists and turns, and swirling slides – the DrainPipe, along with the PowerDrencher which will dump a huge bucket of water, drenching you from stem to stern.

Disney Cruise Lines

Disney Cruises are always a good time for the young and young at heart and they have pools, slides and play areas designed for all ages.

The AquaLab, available on the Magic, Wonder and Fantasy, is an all-ages water playground with pouring paint cans, leaky pipes, geysers and jets, guaranteed to keep you cool on a hot day. On the Magic and Wonder, the Twist n’ Spout double-looping waterslide will slide and spin you down hundreds of feet.  For the littlest cruisers, there are fun and safe areas just for them.

Ride the first “water coaster” at sea on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy.  You’ll drop 4 decks and even go through the forward funnel as you twist and turn 765 feet all over the ship on your two-person raft before ending in the lazy river.  Ride it at night with its multi-colored lights!

Royal Caribbean

Not to be outdone, Royal Caribbean also has some water park fun for everyone!

Splashaway Bay

From toddlers to tweens, Splashaway Bay has colorful fountains and cannons, pools, and waterslides made just for them! Available on:

  • Adventure of the Seas
  • Freedom Class Ships
  • Oasis Class Ships(except Allure)
  • Quantum Class Ships (except Quantum and Anthem)

Available only on Liberty of the Seas, this thrilling, boomerang-like slide propels you into weightlessness then ricochets you back down the other side.

The Perfect Storm – The Blaster and Riptide

Currently available exclusively on the amplified Navigator of the Seas, The Blaster Aqua Coaster, which is part of The Perfect Storm group of waterslides, is the longest water slide at sea at over 800 feet, you’ll dip and drop before hurtling over the water!

Also, only on Navigator, Riptide is the first headfirst mat racer waterslide at sea, where you’ll twist, turn and race through a see-through tube over the side of the ship!

The Perfect Storm – Supercell

This daring waterslide starts like any other waterslide but then propels you into a bowl where you’ll loop and spin before racing down into the pool below. Supercell is currently available on Harmony, Oasis and Symphony.

The Perfect Storm – Typhoon and Cyclone

These twin waterslide racers speed you through twists and turns, with see-through views of the ship around you. Typhoon and Cyclone are available on Adventure and Voyager, all Freedom-class ships, Symphony, Harmony, Oasis, and Royal’s newest ship, Wonder of the Seas!

Harmony of the Seas Water Slide

11 of the Best Water Slides at Sea

Whether you’re young, old or somewhere in between, you can’t deny – waterslides are ruddy good fun; so fun in fact, they’re often added to cruise ships in a bid to maximise the on-board fun factor for plucky young bathers. In homage to the humble water slide, here’s our pick of 11 of the best cruise flumes on the high seas.

The Ultimate Abyss, Harmony of the Seas

Winding 100ft from the top of latest Quantum-class ship, Harmony of the Seas; let it be said that The Ultimate Abyss isn’t for the faint of heart. This monstrous flume takes brave bathers on a ten-storey thrill-ride from the Sports Zone to the Boardwalk gardens below.

Twister, Carnival Magic

Radiance Slide, Radiance of the Seas

Reserved for pint-sized paddlers only, Radiance Slide will have your youngsters in fits of giggles when they reach the plunge pool at the bottom. With twists and turns aplenty, this is one for any courageous little’uns looking to make a splash.

Vertigo, MSC Preziosa

Line Whip, Norwegian Getaway

Line Whip may sound painful, but it really isn’t – unless of course you’re prone to motion sickness, in which case you should probably stick to the deckchair. Featuring two slides which coil around each other as they make their descent to the deck below, Line Whip is a much-loved Norwegian Cruise Line favourite.

DrainPipe, Carnival Dream

Carnival Cruise Line’s water slide division will have had no difficulties naming this particular slide, which features a peculiar bowl that can only be described as toilet-like. After travelling along a regular stretch of slide piping, riders will find themselves whizzing around an open-top bowl – in full view of waiting sliders above.

Epic Plunge, Norwegian Epic

AquaDuck, Disney Dream

Take a seat aboard your Donald Duck embellished dingy for a trip down AquaDuck – the piece de resistance of Disney’s at-sea waterslide. Thanks to translucent tubing and reasonably slow descent speeds, AquaDuck grants grown-up cruisers excellent views over the ship below.

Free Fall, Norwegian Breakaway

Speedway Splash, Carnival Sunshine

Do you harbour a competitive streak that’s yet to rear its head since starting the cruise? If so, pick a family member and head to Speedway Splash – a two-tube racing slide that pits bathers against one another in a high-octane waterslide Royale.

The Ultimate Guide To Cruise Ship Water Slides

Table of Contents

Understanding the Different Types of Cruise Ship Water Slides

Enclosed versus open air slides.

When it comes to cruise ship water slides, one of the first distinctions to be made is between enclosed and open air slides. Enclosed slides are fully enclosed tubes that often feature twists, turns, and thrilling drops. They offer a sense of anticipation and mystery as riders twist and turn through the tight confines of the slide. Open air slides, on the other hand, are those that do not have a fully enclosed tube. These slides can provide riders with a sense of freedom and allow them to take in the surrounding views and scenery as they descend.

Height and Speed Variations

Water slides on cruise ships come in a variety of heights and speeds, catering to different levels of thrill-seekers. Higher slides often provide a more exhilarating experience, with longer drops and faster speeds. These slides are perfect for adrenaline junkies who crave an intense ride. On the other hand, slides with smaller heights and slower speeds are suitable for those who prefer a more relaxed ride or are not comfortable with the high speeds and drops of taller slides. Cruise ships typically offer a range of different slide heights and speeds, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Single Versus Multi-Rider Slides

Another factor to consider when it comes to cruise ship water slides is whether they are designed for single or multi-riders. Single rider slides allow individuals to enjoy the slide at their own pace and without any interference from others. This can be perfect for those who prefer a solitary experience or enjoy the freedom of navigating the slide on their own. Multi-rider slides, on the other hand, are designed to accommodate multiple riders at once. These slides can be a fun option for families or groups of friends who want to experience the thrill of sliding together. They often feature wide lanes or rafts that allow multiple riders to descend simultaneously.

Theme and Designs of Slides

Cruise ship water slides come in a variety of themes and designs, each offering a unique experience for riders. Many slides are designed to fit the overall theme of the cruise ship, incorporating elements of the surrounding environment or the ship’s design. For example, a cruise ship with a tropical theme might have water slides that resemble lush waterfalls or winding jungle rivers. Other slides may have specific design elements, such as spirals or loops, that add an extra level of excitement. The theme and design of the water slides can greatly enhance the overall experience and add an extra element of fun and adventure to the ride.

Location of Water Slides on Cruise Ships

Slide positions on ships.

The location of water slides on a cruise ship can vary depending on the ship’s design and layout. Some ships feature water slides that are positioned high up on the ship’s deck, offering panoramic views and a thrilling descent. These slides often have a designated area on the top deck, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement as riders approach the slide. Other ships may have water slides located closer to the main pool area, allowing for easy access and constant entertainment for guests. The positioning of the water slides can greatly impact the overall experience and convenience for riders.

Importance of Location for Best Slide Experiences

The location of water slides on a cruise ship is important for providing the best slide experiences to guests. When choosing a water slide location, cruise lines consider factors such as visibility, accessibility, and integration with other onboard amenities. Slides located in prominent positions, such as on the top deck or near main pool areas, allow for maximum visibility and can create a sense of excitement for both riders and onlookers. Additionally, convenient access to the slides, either through stairways or nearby elevators, ensures that riders can easily reach the slides without having to navigate through crowded areas of the ship.

Structural Considerations and Safety

The location of water slides on a cruise ship also involves structural considerations and safety measures. Cruise lines work closely with engineers and safety experts to ensure that the structure supporting the water slides is strong and secure. This includes designing slides that are built to withstand the forces exerted on them, as well as implementing safety features such as non-slip surfaces and sturdy handrails. The location of water slides must also take into account factors such as wind speed and sea conditions to ensure the safety of riders. Cruise lines are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for guests, and the location of water slides plays a crucial role in achieving this goal.

Safety Guidelines for Cruise Ship Water Slides

Age and height restrictions.

Safety is a top priority when it comes to cruise ship water slides, and as such, age and height restrictions are in place to ensure the well-being of all riders. These restrictions are necessary to prevent accidents and injuries, as certain slides may be too intense for younger or smaller riders. The age and height restrictions can vary depending on the cruise line and the specific slide, but they are typically in place to protect riders and to ensure that they are physically able to handle the slide’s movements and speeds. It is important to adhere to these restrictions and to follow the guidelines set by the cruise line to ensure a safe experience for everyone.

Safety Equipment Required

In addition to age and height restrictions, cruise ship water slides may also require the use of safety equipment to further enhance the safety of riders. This can include items such as life jackets or helmets, depending on the specific slide and its design. The use of safety equipment is typically mandatory and is enforced to minimize the risk of injuries and accidents. Cruise lines provide these safety equipment items and ensure that they are readily available for guests to use before descending on the water slides.

Safe Riding Techniques

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on cruise ship water slides, it is important to follow safe riding techniques. This includes sitting or lying down in the correct position, keeping hands and feet inside the slide at all times, and not attempting any risky maneuvers or actions. Riders should listen to any instructions given by the slide attendants and should be aware of their surroundings while on the slide. By following these safe riding techniques, guests can help prevent accidents and injuries and can fully enjoy the thrill and excitement of the water slides.

Thrill Factor and Unique Water Slide Features

Integrating innovative technology.

In order to enhance the thrill factor and provide unique experiences, cruise lines have begun integrating innovative technology into their water slides. This can include elements such as LED lighting, music, or sound effects to create a multisensory experience for riders. These technological advancements add an extra level of excitement and immersion, making the water slide experience even more memorable and enjoyable.

Special Effects and Visual Features

Special effects and visual features are another way that cruise lines enhance the thrill factor of their water slides. This can include elements such as misters or water sprays, which provide a refreshing burst of water as riders descend. Visual features such as holographic projections or themed decorations can also be incorporated to create a visually stunning experience. These special effects and visual features add an extra element of excitement and immersion, making each water slide unique and enticing.

Rider Experience and Reviews

First-hand experience stories.

First-hand experience stories from riders are a valuable resource when it comes to understanding the thrill and excitement of cruise ship water slides. Hearing about the exhilaration of the drops, twists, and turns from those who have experienced it firsthand can provide valuable insights into the overall rider experience. Personal anecdotes can add relatability and credibility to the water slide experience, allowing potential riders to get a glimpse of what they can expect and helping them make an informed decision.

Critiques and Recommendations

Critiques and recommendations from riders can also offer valuable information about the pros and cons of different cruise ship water slides. By sharing their experiences and opinions, riders can provide insights into the overall quality, safety, and enjoyment of the water slides. These critiques and recommendations can help guide potential riders in choosing the best water slide experience for their preferences and expectations.

Guest Ratings and Comments

Guest ratings and comments are another valuable resource for understanding the rider experience on cruise ship water slides. Reading reviews and ratings from fellow riders can give potential guests a sense of overall satisfaction, reliability, and enjoyment of the water slide experience. These ratings can also provide helpful information about a specific cruise line’s water slide offerings, allowing guests to make an informed decision based on the experiences of others.

The Ultimate Guide To Cruise Ship Water Slides

Maintaining Hygiene and Cleanliness

Cruise line sanitation practice.

Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness on cruise ship water slides is paramount to ensuring the health and safety of riders. Cruise lines have strict sanitation practices in place to keep the slides clean and free from bacteria and germs. This includes regular cleaning and disinfection of the slides, as well as providing hand sanitizing stations for riders to use before and after their slide experience. Cruise lines follow industry guidelines and regulations to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

Rider Hygiene Requirements

Guests are also expected to adhere to certain hygiene requirements when using cruise ship water slides. This includes showering before using the slides, wearing appropriate swimwear, and removing any items that could pose a safety hazard or impede the slide experience. These requirements are in place to ensure the health and safety of all riders and to maintain the cleanliness of the water slide area.

Maintaining Water Quality

Maintaining water quality is a key aspect of hygiene and cleanliness on cruise ship water slides. Cruise lines have advanced filtration systems in place to ensure that the water used in the slides is clean and safe for riders. This includes regular water testing to monitor chlorine levels and the presence of any harmful bacteria or contaminants. By maintaining water quality, cruise lines can provide a safe and enjoyable water slide experience for all guests.

Water Slide Operating Times and Peak Hours

Understanding operative timing.

Cruise ship water slides have specific operating times that can vary depending on the cruise line and the specific ship. These operating times are typically designed to accommodate the needs and preferences of guests. Water slides may operate during set hours each day, ensuring that riders have ample time to enjoy the slides. It is important to check the daily schedule and plan accordingly to ensure that you can make the most of the available operating times.

Avoiding Peak Rush Hours

Peak rush hours for water slides can vary depending on factors such as port days, mealtimes, and popular onboard events. To avoid long lines and wait times, it is recommended to plan your water slide experience during off-peak hours. This may involve riding the slides early in the morning, late in the evening, or during less crowded times of the day. By strategically planning your water slide adventures, you can maximize your enjoyment and minimize any potential wait times.

Biding Time for the Best Ride Experience

In instances where there may be a wait for the water slides, it is important to make the most of your time while waiting. Many cruise lines provide entertainment or activities in the vicinity of the water slides, allowing guests to stay engaged and occupied. This can include live music, games, or even nearby pool areas for guests to relax and cool off while waiting. By biding your time wisely, you can ensure that your water slide experience is as enjoyable and seamless as possible.

Photography and Video Policies for Water Slides

Understanding cruise line photography policies.

Cruise lines have specific photography policies in place when it comes to capturing moments on water slides. Some cruise lines allow guests to bring their own cameras or smartphones to document their water slide adventures, while others prohibit the use of personal photography equipment on the slides. Instead, cruise lines may offer professional photography services, including onboard photographers stationed near the water slides to capture action shots. It is important to familiarize yourself with the photography policies of the specific cruise line you are traveling with to ensure compliance and to avoid any potential issues.

Tips for Capturing the Best Water Slide Action

If photography is allowed on the water slides, there are a few tips that can help capture the best action shots. It is important to ensure that any photography equipment is properly secured and waterproof to protect it from water damage. By choosing the right vantage point and timing your shots correctly, you can capture the excitement and thrill of the water slide experience. Candid shots of riders in action, as well as photos of the surrounding scenery and views, can help create lasting memories of your water slide adventures.

Safety Considerations for Using Cameras on Slides

When using cameras on water slides, it is important to prioritize safety at all times. This includes ensuring that any photography equipment is securely fastened and does not pose a risk to yourself or others while sliding. It is also important to pay attention to your surroundings and to be aware of any potential hazards or obstructions on the slide. By following safety guidelines and using caution, you can safely capture the excitement of your water slide experience without compromising the safety of yourself or others.

What to Expect Beyond the Water Slides

Post-ride facilities.

Beyond the water slides, cruise lines often provide additional facilities for guests to enjoy after their ride. This can include splash zones, water play areas, or even dedicated pools for guests to cool off and relax. These post-ride facilities are perfect for unwinding and enjoying some leisure time after an exhilarating water slide experience. They allow guests to continue their water-based adventure in a more relaxed and refreshing setting.

Nearby Amenities & Entertainment Options

In addition to post-ride facilities, cruise ships offer a wide range of other amenities and entertainment options for guests to enjoy. This can include additional pool areas, hot tubs, or even water sports activities such as surfing or diving. Onboard theaters, casinos, and retail shops are also available to provide guests with a variety of entertainment options. Whether you prefer to lounge by the pool, try your luck at the casino, or catch a live show, there is always something to do beyond the water slides on a cruise ship.

Provision for Spectators and Non-Riders

For those who may not wish to partake in the water slide adventures, cruise lines often provide provisions for spectators and non-riders. This can include designated viewing areas or seating arrangements that allow friends or family members to cheer on their loved ones as they ride the slides. It is important to check with the specific cruise line for any restrictions or guidelines regarding spectators and non-riders to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone.

In conclusion, cruise ship water slides offer a thrilling and fun experience for guests of all ages. Understanding the different types of water slides, their locations on the ship, safety guidelines, and the unique features they offer can help you choose the best slide experience for your cruise vacation. The top cruise lines with the best water slides, rider experiences and reviews, cleanliness and hygiene practices, water slide operating times, photography policies, and what to expect beyond the water slides are all important factors to consider when planning your water slide adventures. The best water parks on cruise ships

Step away from land and experience some of the world’s most thrilling water parks whilst cruising upon your favourite liner.

Step away from land and experience some of the world’s most thrilling water parks while cruising upon your favourite liner.

It often feels that everything at sea is a little bit more spectacular than its land-based counterpart; the world’s most luxurious liners have certainly gone to extreme lengths to surprise and delight passengers, and children are no exception. In their quest to win the hearts and minds of their smallest travellers, many have discovered the essential ingredient for success and continue to break records in the process. It is, of course, the water park, and one experience of its tumbling thrills will convince you that no ship is the same without one.

MSC Cruises

The spectacularly popular MSC led the fleet in the race to secure the most exciting water park at sea aboard the MSC Seaside and her sister ships. The water park includes five water slides, one of which combines the usual spills and thrills with gaming technology. The slide involves guests plummeting through a two-storey, 112-metre slide on a raft that contains an embedded game controller, which guests can use to test their speed and responsiveness against a buddy.

Not all water park slides take passengers to virtual reality, however; some rely on the traditional method of towering heights to inspire excitement. The Adventure Trail, which connects directly to the park, features bridges suspended between towers, climbing equipment and slides, all with the best views of whichever exotic locale the ship happens to be anchored in.

Cruisers can also get their fix aboard MSC Preziosa , featuring Vertigo, the 120-metre slide that arches beyond the side of the ship, at which point the safety of the slide gives way to a nine-metre transparent panel with views to the depths of the ocean!

The best water parks on cruise ships

Norwegian Cruise Lines

For a high-seas adventure that twists, turns and topples, Norwegian Cruise Line exceeds even the wildest expectations of tiny adrenaline seekers. Aboard the Breakaway Class ships, five multi-level water slides in candy-coloured splendour take centre stage, daring passengers to test their bravery on vertical drops and dizzying spirals.

The Free Fall is the most extreme of the Aqua Park’s attractions, taking the crown as the fastest water slide at sea as passengers plunge down the tube at an exhilarating speed. Its younger sibling, The Whip, is gentler by comparison but wet and wild in its own right, featuring side-by-side twister slides that make for the ultimate battle between friends.

Norwegian’s other vessels are by no means more ordinary. On a ship christened Norwegian Epic , a reputation for all things impressive must be upheld. Fortunately, the colossal checkered bowl slide that is The Epic Plunge does just that, as daring souls are sucked into its vortex.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean already has an outstanding reputation among children as a floating wonderland, and this is proven when you climb aboard the Harmony of the Seas. Onboard is the first Splashaway Bay at sea, a vibrant waterscape where passengers play side-by-side armed with water cannons.

On her journey through the Carribean stopping at Florida, The Bahamas and Puerto Rica, the ship has officially earned the title of possessing the tallest water slide at sea, ominously known as the Ultimate Abyss. This 10-storey super ride begins in the Pool and Sports Zone and delivers guests safely to the Boardwalk neighbourhood below before they test their might on The Perfect Storm and the Zipline, all equally thrilling.

Those that have travelled aboard the existing Freedom Class and a selection of Oasis, Quantum and Voyager Class ships will have already encountered Royal Caribbean’s unique aqua attractions. The Flowrider, for instance, is a surf simulator that gives passengers the opportunity to live out their deep-barrelled fantasies.

Royal Caribbean

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises

German cruise line  Hapag-Lloyd  takes the incredible water experiences ashore with voyages aboard Europa 2 . The compact and manoeuvrable Zodiacs allow access to secret coves and water parks of the natural variety. With a range of on-shore family programmes, passengers may find themselves snorkelling in Langkawi or descending to the underwater world of the Caribbean with the help of a submarine.

Although not an activity of the aquatic variety, the two state-of-the-art golf simulators aboard Europa 2 are also noteworthy for families. With equipment designed specifically for children between the ages of six and 10, Hapag-Lloyd offers little guests the chance to master their swing accompanied by Capt’n Knopf, the resident teddy bear and mascot. Parents can also book a personal hour-long session with the onboard golf pro for their little ones.

Kids and luxury cruising

Not every luxury cruise ship is child-friendly but nevertheless, little ones and five-star cruising can mix as long as you plan things carefully. Here are our tips on how to take your kids on a luxury liner without feeling all at sea.

1. Eat early

It goes without saying that children should eat at the first sitting. Many ships also have other à la carte or casual bistro dining available so mix it up for variety’s sake. It also goes without saying that only the most extraordinarily mature child should ever be seen at the Captain’s Table.

2. Pick your room carefully

The bigger the better, so children can lounge around and watch DVDs in their own space. For example, Crystal Serenity ’s Penthouse suites with a verandah are some of the largest at sea and the two penthouse floors have a free launderette. Don’t be tempted to book two staterooms next to each other – a separate door onto the corridor is an escape route for littlies.

3. Think through excursions

Children love taking tenders ashore or exploring new places, but the organised tours may not suit children. Sometimes it is better to go it alone with young adventurers so that you can set the pace. An ice-cream in the square and a walk around the city ramparts in Dubrovnik is more engaging than a historical tour.

4. Make your own fun

Recognise that you will be spending more time with the children than on some other family-style cruises. Luxury cruise ships often don’t have specific kids’ centres and although staff and nannies are on offer (so you can find a deckchair by the railing on occasion) this isn’t going to happen all the time. Family board game nights in the room will be fun and great for bonding at sea.

Water slides not only provide exhilarating fun for guests of all ages but also add an extra element of excitement to the onboard experience. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker looking for an adrenaline rush or simply want to relax and enjoy some water-based fun, having water slides on a cruise ship can make your vacation all the more memorable.

With so many cruise ships on the market, it can be challenging to determine which ship offers the most water slides. In this article, we will explore the various factors to consider when determining the number of water slides on a cruise ship and highlight some of the ships with the highest number of water slides.

So, if you’re ready to hit the high seas and make a splash, let’s dive into the world of cruise ships with the most water slides!

The Importance of Water Slides on Cruise Ships

Water slides on cruise ships have become increasingly popular and for good reason. They not only provide entertainment for guests but also enhance the overall cruise experience. Here are a few reasons why water slides are considered an important feature on cruise ships:

  • Family-Friendly Fun: Water slides offer a wide range of excitement for guests of all ages. Families can enjoy splashing, sliding, and laughing together, creating lasting memories. For parents, it provides an opportunity to bond with their children in a fun and safe environment.
  • Thrills and Excitement: For thrill-seekers, water slides provide an adrenaline-pumping experience. From steep drops to twists and turns, these slides offer a thrilling adventure that keeps guests coming back for more.
  • Relaxation and Recreation: Water slides are not just about high-speed thrills. Many cruise ships also feature more leisurely slides that offer a gentle flow or winding paths. These slides allow guests to relax and enjoy the water, providing a perfect balance between excitement and relaxation.
  • Escape the Heat: Cruise ship vacations often take place in warm and sunny destinations. Water slides provide a refreshing way to cool off from the tropical heat. Guests can enjoy a refreshing splash in the water before returning to sunbathing or other onboard activities.
  • Enhancing the Cruise Experience: In addition to the above benefits, water slides add an extra element of fun and entertainment to the overall cruise experience. They provide an additional activity option for guests to enjoy during their time onboard.

Overall, water slides on cruise ships are highly valued by both guests and cruise lines. They offer a variety of experiences, from exhilarating thrills to relaxing leisure, catering to the preferences of every guest. Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline rush or simply want to have some family fun in the sun, water slides are an essential feature of many modern cruise ships.

Factors to Consider When Determining the Number of Water Slides

The number of water slides on a cruise ship can vary widely, depending on several factors. When evaluating the number of water slides, cruise lines take into account various considerations to ensure the optimal balance of entertainment and safety for their guests. Here are some key factors that influence the number of water slides on a cruise ship:

  • Ship Size and Layout: The size and layout of the ship play a significant role in determining the number of water slides it can accommodate. Larger ships generally have more space available for multiple water slide complexes, while smaller ships may have limited space for only a few slides.
  • Target Demographic: Cruise lines design their ships with a specific target demographic in mind. Family-oriented cruise lines typically offer a higher number of water slides to cater to children and families, while adult-focused cruise lines may prioritize other onboard amenities and entertainment options.
  • Regulatory Requirements: Cruise ships must adhere to safety regulations and guidelines set by international maritime authorities. These regulations may dictate the maximum number of water slides a ship can have, ensuring that safety measures are in place and that guests can enjoy the slides without any unnecessary risks.
  • Infrastructure and Technical Considerations: Building and maintaining water slides on a cruise ship require appropriate infrastructure and technical support. Factors such as water supply, drainage systems, and feasibility of slide construction and maintenance must be taken into account when determining the number of water slides a ship can accommodate.
  • Guest Demand and Satisfaction: Cruise lines also consider guest demand and satisfaction when selecting the number of water slides. Feedback from previous passengers and market research help cruise lines understand the preferences and expectations of their guests, ensuring that the ship’s water slide offerings align with their desires.

It’s important to note that while the number of water slides is a significant factor, cruise lines also focus on providing a diverse range of slide types and experiences. This can include thrilling high-speed slides, multi-lane racing slides, gentle or meandering slides, and even interactive water play areas for younger children.

By carefully considering these factors, cruise lines strive to offer the optimal number and variety of water slides that align with their ship’s size, target demographic, regulatory requirements, and guest expectations. This ensures that guests can enjoy a fun and safe water slide experience during their cruise vacation.
