The Best Wrinkle-Free Women’s Clothes for Travel, According to Frequent Fliers

Relaxed Air Travel

You’ve tried packing cubes and rolling your shirts up Marie Kondo –style and yet, most likely, all your clothes still come out of your suitcase wrinkled when you reach your destination. Or maybe you have an important meeting right after landing , and your once-polished outfit looks rumpled after hours in economy . Like other travel dilemmas — finding a bag that’ll fit under the seat in front of you or trying to sleep on a transcontinental flight — arriving with a suitcase full of wrinkly clothes can be solved. To avoid pricey hotel dry-cleaning services, or risky sessions with your in-room ironing board, we asked nine women in the travel business to recommend the best pieces to wear and pack while you’re away.

Best wrinkle-free pants for travel

Eileen Fisher Ankle Length Straight Pants with Gathered Waist

For travel pants that are comfortable, stylish and low-maintenance, Jeralyn Gerba, co-founder and editorial director of Fathom , likes easy pieces from Eileen Fisher . “She’s known for researching and developing materials that are responsible, sustainable, and high-performance while also being crazy chic,” says Gerba. “I love her uncrushable Tencel, a tree fiber textile produced with near zero waste — the drawstring pants and blazers look really good after long-haul flights.” The adjustable drawstring allows for in-flight comfort while the textured crepe lends them a sophisticated look.

Athleta Skyline Pant

A similar pair at a lower price point, these slim, drawstring pants are a favorite of Sarah Corsa, a trip designer at Journy . She likes that they’re “lightweight and rarely wrinkle.” Gerba also looks to Athleta for “casual basics with the occasional flair,” and says their athleisure pieces offer “a nice alternative to the straight-up sweats uniform” while traveling.

Outdoor Voices RecTrek Pant

Outdoor Voices, makers of our favorite “sleek and tailored” sweatpants, are another frequent flier go-to for easy-to-wear pieces that’ll look fresh after a long journey. Journy co-founder Leiti Hsu, calls the RekTrek pants “the ultimate in comfort.” She says they “stay crisp from laundry cycle to laundry cycle” and “look way more pulled-together than yoga pants.”

The Row Tao Straight-Leg Stretch-Cotton Pants

“I have a few pairs of stretchy but tailored trousers from The Row that are incredibly comfortable and easy to pack,” says Jen Rubio, co-founder and chief-brand officer of Away . They’ll give an outfit more polish than a jogger-type pant while still being wrinkle-resistant and non-constricting on long flights. Rubio says she’ll pair hers with a T-shirt and leather jacket.

Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants

Based in San Francisco, the clothing start-up Betabrand sells pieces based on crowd-sourced designs, like these trouser-style pants that come highly recommended by Larissa Hayden, deputy director of events at Atlas Obscura . She likes that they’re crafted “with comfort, durability, and professionalism in mind,” and have all the comfort of stretchy sweats.

Best wrinkle-free leggings for travel

American Eagle High-Waisted Jegging

If you’d rather go the leggings route, Melissa Hie of Girl Eat World swears these jeggings “look exactly like jeans but are very stretchy and comfortable like leggings.” She says, “I would just pair this with a comfortable button-up shirt if I need to look somewhat put together straight off the plane.”

Calzedonia Thermal Leather-Effect Leggings

For leggings that can be dressed up, Hsu likes this expensive-looking (but actually quite affordable) faux -leather pair. “Tuck them in your carry-on for a sexy go-to that [can go from] day to dinner in any city,” she says. “They’re secretly lined with cozy fleece on the inside; all the better to brave your next winter dining adventure.”

Best wrinkle-free tops for travel

Uniqlo Rayon Long-Sleeve Blouse

Travelers love Uniqlo’s affordable and durable pieces for comfort and style. Hie says their button-downs are perfect for wearing with leggings to easily look put-together. And while she normally prefers natural fabrics, when it comes to travel she says, “I go with polyester-blend fabrics since they don’t wrinkle as much.” Like polyester, rayon is far more wrinkle-resistant than cotton or linen.

Loft Ruffle Henley Utility Blouse

Also polyester, but with a silky feel and sweet ruffle details, this packable top is one of Corsa’s favorites. “It can be worn in basically any climate, for tons of occasions,” she says. “It never wrinkles and still looks new after years.”

Uniqlo Heattech Turtleneck Long-Sleeve T-Shirt

Gerba calls Uniqlo’s warming Heattech turtleneck, an essential layering piece for cold-weather travel or even ice-cold planes, “basic, but solid.” In warmer climates, Stephanie Park, co-founder and vice-president of operations at Journy, likes the brand’s AIRism line. “Not only do the breathable base layers release heat and moisture to adapt to different weather conditions, but they also remain remarkably wrinkle-free, even after long flights,” she says.

Theory Bringam Crepe Top

According to Rubio, Theory’s “crepe knits will never wrinkle, no matter how much of an overpacker you are,” which is good news if you need to look professional right after a red-eye flight.

Best wrinkle-free dresses for travel

Love, Bonito Reiley A-Line Dress

Simple, packable slip dresses were called out by several travelers as highly versatile items. Hie opts for colorful ones from Singapore-based, women-founded brand Love, Bonito. “They are made out of a polyester blend and [don’t] t get wrinkled even if they are straight out of the suitcase,” she says. “I love them because they are very basic, which means I can pair them with accessories to dress them up or down.”

Nili Lotan Silk Slipdress

Rubio counts her black Nili Lotan slip dress as ones of her perfect travel pieces that’s “practical and comfortable, yet stylish and versatile so that my look can easily transition from day to night.” She’ll wear it with a blazer and loafers on the plane, and switch to boots once she lands. And while it may seem like a fussy pick, Gerba says she frequently packs silk because “it looks good, weighs nothing, and its wrinkles fall out easily.”

Everlane Japanese GoWeave Tank Wrap Dress

For a fraction of the price, Journy trip designer Lauren Witte likes this bright Everlane wrap dress which, she says, is also “made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric,” and can work for both casual and dressier events.

Wolford Asymmetric Dress

If slip dresses aren’t your style, Hsu says she’s “obsessed with Wolford’s selection of stretchy dresses that roll up almost as tiny as hosiery.” Since it takes up barely any space she says they’re the ideal “just-in-case” dresses to pack if the need to dress up arises, and she calls her simple, black sheath “a lifesaver.”

Best wrinkle-free layers for travel

Eileen Fisher Stand-Collar Open Blazer

Like the Eileen Fisher pants recommended by Gerba, this blazer is made of Tencel and can withstand long flights and not-so-tidy packing. Plus, as several of our travel pros noted, blazers play well with basics like lightweight tops and cami dresses, giving you some mix-and-match outfits for your journey without having to overpack.

Loro Piana Cashmere Fringe-Trim Opera Stole

“A black versatile cashmere wrap is a must-have for my busy travel schedule,” says Elizabeth Fuller, director of marketing and partnerships at Black Tomato . “It doubles as a blanket on a chilly flight and won’t wrinkle if you stow it in your carry on to go through security.” She likes the very elegant. fringed Loro Piano version, but if you’re on a budget, the under-$100 silk-blended wrap from cashmere startup Naadam will also do the trick.

Reformation Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater

Like Fuller, Hsu thinks quality cashmere is a worthwhile travel investment. “Compared with other fabrics, cashmere doesn’t require washing all that often and is naturally temperature moderating,” she says, making it a natural fit for an on-the-go lifestyle. Her favorites are classic cuts with unique details from brands like Reformation and Rag & Bone .

Essential Travel Tips for Packing Dresses

Many fitness and outdoor brands are also starting to make lifestyle lines so you can have stylish clothes that also perform well. Sometimes, you must dig through all the items that scream outdoorsy to find the gems.

We reached out to the major travel and outdoor brands on the market (including Adventure Dress, Anatomie, Fig Clothing, Helene Clarkson, prAna, Rec Room, Toad&Co) to identify their top sellers and then cross-referenced it with numerous travel sites, blogs, and globetrotting friends.

None required inclusion, and we returned any dresses that did not fit or travel well.

Many of these brands are pricier because they use performance fabrics and care more about fair trade and sustainability. But if you’re looking for mid to lower-price range dresses, we included those too.

Before we get into my top choices for dresses, here are some things I’m looking for when searching for the best travel dresses.

  • Comfort  – Though I might carry one fancier dress for a special occasion, most of the clothes I travel with are comfy chic.
  • Versatility  – can be dressed up or down. It’s even better if it’s convertible clothing or a 2-piece dress that makes it easy to mix and match. Usually, convertible clothing can be pretty ugly, but occasionally, you find a gem.
  • Wrinkle Free  – I don’t want to spend part of my trip ironing clothes.
  • Packable  – Light and easy to pack.
  • Performance  – Sweat-wicking or quick drying is icing on the cake. If the dress looks too sporty, though, it’s not a must.
  • Rompers and Jumpsuits? – If you’re outdoors all day with no bathroom, you will not want to strip naked. Trust me, this has happened to me, and it was uncomfortable.

Note: You know your body best and what style looks best on you. I’m generally a size 0 petite. If there’s no petite size, I accept that minis will look like midis, and midis will look like maxis on me.

It has low-quality fabric , but I’ve worn it for several years, and it holds up better than other fast fashion pieces I’ve owned. It’s mostly for city travel, but I’ve also worn this as a swimsuit cover-up and went SUPing.

The best part is that it’s affordable , and you can go on any adventure without feeling bad that you’ll mess it up .

  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down.
  • Can machine wash cold and tumble dry low.
  • Affordable.
  • Will wrinkle
  • Fabric is not comfortable. It has some stretch but isn’t very soft.
  • Low-quality fabric with a “plasticky” feel, but it’s sewn together well.

2. Free Fly Apparel Heritage Dress ($88) – Most Comfortable Travel Dress →

Activities:  Urban exploration. Materials: 55% Cotton | 45% Viscose from Bamboo Sizing:  XS in Heather Black (true to size but long on me)

This is by far the most comfortable dress I own. Comfortable clothes tend to look slouchier, but this one, surprisingly, is more flattering than I expected. It’s easy to throw on during hot summer days, and luckily, their midi dress hits right at maxi length for me.

I also like layering over this with a sweater during the winter. Also, I must have a favorite pose right now. lol

  • Comfortable and stretchy
  • Soft Fabric
  • UPF 50+ sun protection
  • Flattering fit; not too loose or tight
  • Side slits for easy movement
  • Hang dry recommended
  • Not as many color options

3. Encircled 3-piece Reversible Dressy Knit Dress + Jumpsuit (on Sale $188 from $389) →

Activities:  Urban exploration. Materials: Rayon from Bamboo, Spandex Rib Knit Sizing:  XS in Martini Olive (true to size)

I love this 3-piece set , which can be worn four ways. The top is reversible , with a boat neck on one side and a scoop neck on the other. Then you can pair it with their skirt or their wide-leg pants . My biggest complaint is that the skirt has no pockets.

  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down across multiple seasons.
  • Reversible top .
  • Breathable fabric.
  • Sustainably sourced. Certified B-Corp.
  • Sustainable packaging.
  • Full bra coverage straps.
  • Can machine wash.
  • Pockets on the wide-leg pants .
  • Women-owned, women-run.
  • Pricier, but I don’t mind paying more for sustainable, ethically-made clothes.
  • In some light, you can see unflattering lines created by the tank.
  • Must lay flat to dry (They suggest you always line dry. Did you know air drying can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 2400 lbs a year?).
  • No pockets on the skirt .
  • Will wrinkle.

4. Prana Luxara Dress (On sale $59 from $119) – Best Activewear Dress for Travel →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Outdoor Adventures in Heat, Hot Yoga Material:  76% Recycled Nylon, 24 Elastane Size Worn:  XS in Spiced (true to size on me)

This is an excellent activewear dress, especially for warm-weather destinations like Las Vegas! The Luxara is Prana’s lightest material and is perfect for hiking in the heat. It fits like a hug and is more comfortable than my Girlfriend Collective Lola Dress, my other active dress with a built-in shorty.

  • Ultra-lightweight
  • Moisture wicking and Quick Dry
  • UPF Sun Protection
  • Stretchy and comfortable
  • Built-in shorts
  • Interior pocket in shorts
  • Some recycled materials
  • Only one pocket
  • Some reviews mention it’s too short, but it’s a great length for me.

5. Prana Cozy Up Bayjour Dress (Out of Stock) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Beach, Soft Adventures Material:  55% Hemp | 25% Recycled Polyester | TENCEL™ Lyocell Size Worn:  XS in Heather Grey (true to size)

I loved all my previous Prana dresses (now discontinued), so I knew I would love the Cozy Up Bayjour Dress. It is soft and comfortable , can be dressed up or down , and  pockets  are always a plus. I’ll later post up all the mixing and matching I can do with my wardrobe and this dress.

  • Soft fabric
  • Lightweight than most dresses, but on this list, it’s one of the heavier fabrics.
  • Flattering shape with rib knit tank bodice
  • Bacteria resistant
  • Quick drying
  • Versatile and can be dressed up or down
  • On-seam pockets
  • Some recycled fibers and eco-friendly materials
  • Other reviewers mention the fabric is heavier than expected, and the black color looks faded.
  • The waistline could be higher to be more flattering on petite frames. It’s better for average or taller heights.

6. Toad and co Jumper ($125) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration Material:  100% Organic Cotton Size Worn:  XS in Honey Brown (fits large on me)

I love this jumper for travel days when I have multiple activities requiring multiple outfits. Instead of bringing two outfits per day, I can throw this over the same top, which makes for an easy day-to-night transition. I did this twice on our Washington trip , where I had to hike during the day but had more formal dinners later.

  • Easy to throw on.
  • Soft and comfortable
  • Lots of pockets (one zippered pocket for valuables)
  • Can machine wash
  • Oeko-tex standard
  • Shipped in a recyclable paper sleeve.
  • Joy-backed guarantee. You can return it within 90 days if you don’t get a compliment within three wearings or it doesn’t bring you joy.
  • Runs large if you’re petite, but I don’t mind wearing it looser.

7. Arc’teryx Contenta Dress (Out of Stock) →

Activities:  Urban Exploration, Outdoor Adventures Material:  100% recycled Diem™ polyester Size Worn:  XS in Light Immersion (true to size on me)

They made a newer version of this dress with a looser silhouette and a scooped neckline. Meanwhile, I still have the older version.

This dress is the  most lightweight option  on here and feels the most breezy out of all the dresses. I especially gravitate towards it on hot summer days (we have plenty of them in Vegas).

  • Lightweight
  • Anti-wrinkle
  • Can wear it two ways.
  • Materials meet the Bluesign criteria for sustainability.
  • The elastic waistband inside is annoying to cinch the waist (the newer version has it on the outside).

8. Anatomie Taya Racerback Maxi Dress (On Sale $78 From $168) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, Beach, Nicer Dinners, Work trips Material:  95% Viscose / 5% Elastane Size Worn:  XS in Navy (true to size on me other than length)

Let me start by saying I’m a big fan of Anatomie’s line of travel clothes. Everything is  high quality . I own two pairs of Skylar Pants in black and gray because they’re perfect for flying, and now this dress!

The performance fabric keeps you comfortable, and the mesh panel makes it perfect for warm-weather travel.

  • Stretchy, Relaxed fit
  • Flattering shape
  • I had to hem it since there are no petite sizes

9. Helene Clarkson Sabi Reversible Halter Dress (on sale $94 from $189) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, Work travel Material:  95% polyester, 5% spandex Size Worn:   XS in teal  (true to size on me)

The material is so soft and comfortable that I can practically  sleep in it ! What initially drew me to this dress was that it’s  reversible , and you can wear it as a mock-neck halter style or a v-neck. Also, since the fabric is so thin, you can wear it as a top with baggier bottoms like joggers.

  • Wrinkle Free
  • Reversible – front is a pleated mock neck, and the back is a relaxed v-neck. I typically only wear it on the mock neck side, though.
  • Hang to dry
  • It’s easy to snag, so be careful around sharp objects or velcro.

10. Bluffworks Threshold Tie Waist T-Shirt Dress (On sale $46 from $78) →

Activities:  Urban exploration Material:  66% Polyester, 29% Lyocell, 5% elastane Size Worn:  XS Petite in Deep Maroon (runs large on me)

Jacob has been wearing Bluffworks clothes for years, and now that they have started carrying women’s clothes, I finally got to check out one of their dresses. Their threshold tie waist t-shirt dress uses a super soft fabric that feels like your old favorite tee. The fit runs a half-size large on me in XS, their smallest size, but most of their reviews say it fits true to size.

  • Comfy, soft fabric.
  • Machine washable
  • Odor resistant
  • Wrinkle resistant
  • Moisture wicking/quick drying
  • 4 total pockets (2 on interior)
  • It fits loose on me and isn’t flattering on the side you don’t tie. It probably looks better on you if it fits more snugly.

11. Girlfriend Collective – Lola V-neck Dress (on sale $88) →

Activities:  Hiking, Climbing, Urban exploration. Material:  90% RPET and 10% spandex Size Worn:  XS in alpine (true to size on me)

The Lola V-Neck is perfect for any activity. With its  built-in shorts , you can hike or climb without worrying about flashing people. They make them out of  90% recycled plastic bottles  (RPET).

Plus, they have their  ReGirlfriend recycling program , where they turn your dress into future clothes.

It was also perfect for travel with a  diverse range of activities . We zip-lined in the morning before exploring the city, and the built-in shorts made that all possible.

Girlfriend Collective sent me two dresses to showcase on  my climbing account , but I loved them so much that I included them here.

  • Comfortable fabric.
  • Flattering shape with compression around the waist and hips.
  • Built-in bra.
  • Built-in shorts.
  • Pockets on inner shorts.
  • Sweat-wicking.
  • Ultra-lightweight.
  • Sustainably made from 90% recycled plastic bottles, and they have a recycle program called ReGirlfriend.
  • Must be hang-dried.
  • Doesn’t hide stiff nips, and if you’re already flat, it flattens you more.
  • Harder to take on and off to go to the bathroom.
  • Looks more sporty.

The Marley Tiered dress is  comfortable,  versatile, and perfect for hot summers. It’s easy to throw on whether lounging at home or exploring the city.

Toad and Co values  sustainability , and I thought it was cute that even their tags are made to be reusable as a coaster.

  • Loose, flowy silhouette
  • Bra-friendly coverage
  • Made with eco-friendly fibers and packaging
  • Joy-backed guarantee
  • The bust runs large for me since I’m petite and flat-chested.

Fig makes practical travel clothes that make no sacrifice on style, and the Hampton dress has been the perfect addition to my capsule wardrobe. I love the simple design and the in-seam pockets.

  • Soft on skin
  • Comfortable
  • UPF 25 solar protection
  • In-seam pockets
  • Quality fabric
  • Heavier than my other travel dresses because of its thicker fabric

14. Milumia Button Up Split Floral Print Flowy Party Maxi Dress ($44) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, beach

I wear an XS in Beige Yellow, but the dress runs big and fits loose on me (I’m a petite XS, sometimes XXS).

The fit isn’t perfect on me, but it still looks great for photos (see photo below). I have other travel bloggers friends with this same dress who own it in multiple colors. If it fits you, it’s a fan favorite.

  • Comfortable, soft fabric
  • Machine Washable
  • Must be line-dried
  • Fits baggy on me.

15. Encircled Chrysalis Cardi Dress ($215) →

Activities:  Urban exploration, in flight.

I learned about Encircled and had the Chrysalis Cardi back in 2015. I love how this wrap dress can be worn in 8+ different ways (see  all the ways here ).

  • Premium quality and made to last
  • Can be worn 8+ different ways
  • Sustainability – They use the most natural and sustainable fabrics available and are a Certified B Corp and Oeko Tex 100 Certified
  • Heavy Fabric
  • Will Wrinkle
  • Must be line-dried and takes a while to dry, but I think the fabric has since changed.
  • Not all the ways have a flattering fit.

Many of my favorite dresses are discontinued now. It’s worth noting that some travel apparel brands that shut down include Rec Room, Vacaystyle, and the Adventure Dress (the website is still there, but all their dresses have been sold out for several years).

Do you own any of these?

  • Uniqlo A-line Mini Bra Dress  – love when the bra is built in. So comfy.
  • Toad & Co Camp-co Romper – as long as you don’t mind traveling in a romper. It feels like linen but has a cleaner footprint.

If you want to avoid wrinkles, use these packing tips:

  • Don’t overpack.
  • Lay the dress flat inside a plastic dry cleaning bag. Fold it in its natural shape.
  • Pack them last or on top of everything else.
  • Roll softer garments.
  • Use a  mini travel steamer .
  • If your clothes are wrinkled, hang them in the bathroom while you take a steamy hot shower.

I don’t usually travel with dresses but now I’m reconsidering! Also love how you do a quick recap of all the items at the end of each blog post.

Mollie

Love these options, especially how you have different style for different sizes/shapes! I’ve purchased two of these and am grateful for the suggestions!

Thank you for all of your articles. I’m working my way backwards and am reading them all while here on vacation in Bordeaux in my downtown.

The Tortuga Promise

At Tortuga, our mission is to make travel easier. Our advice and recommendations are based on years of travel experience. We only recommend products that we use on our own travels.

Finding the perfect dress you could wear every day is already hard enough—but what about finding one that’s also wrinkle-free, doesn’t get smelly after one wear, works for every occasion, or, in other words, is perfect for travel?

With so many climates, cultures, and occasions to think about, it’s hard to find the best travel dress that can do it all.

The best travel dress is the one that makes you feel great. Look for synthetic fabrics with a bit of elastic, shorter cuts that are easy to layer, a design and color you can style multiple ways, and a quality make that will last throughout your journeys.

Whether your travels take you to rough and rugged corners of the globe, or you take more urban journeys where you need to look presentable, these travel dresses will have your back (literally) along the way. Scroll on for our recommendations of the best dresses for travel—from versatile little black travel dresses to wrinkle-resistant dresses with pockets.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

1. Wool&: Camellia Tank Dress ($128)

  • Best for: Summer and urban travel
  • Colors : Blue, black
  • Features : Transitions into multiple styles, naturally wrinkle-resistant
  • Material : Merino wool

Merino wool is one of the best travel fabrics , but, although it’s common in t-shirts and under layers, it’s not often you find it in a women ’s dress. However, all of the dresses by Wool& , the sister brand of Wool and Prince, are made from quality merino wool.

Impossible to wrinkle, durable, and easy to pack, all of these dresses can withstand the rigor of travel. Toss them in your backpack or wear them all day, and they won’t turn into a rumpled mess. Plus, merino wool is naturally temperature-regulating and sweat-wicking, which makes it great for both cold and warm weather travel.

While all of the Wool& dresses are wonderful, the Camellia is one of their more versatile pieces for travel. It comes in several different colors and can be styled in multiple different ways, giving you multiple different looks with one dress.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

3. prAna: Sanna Dress ($69)

  • Best for : Adventure travel
  • Colors : Black, yellow, blue, grey
  • Features : Wrinkle-resistant
  • Material : 45% Recycled Polyester / 45% Polyester / 10% Spandex

For a dress you can just as easily wear riding a bus for three hours as you could on a classy dinner out, prAna is a wonderful brand to look at. While not an outdoors clothing company per se , their clothing is durable, comfortable, and adventure-ready. At the same time, their designs are stylish and don’t scream “I’m about to go on a hike!” the way some outdoor brands do.While they have dozens of styles to choose from , I’d recommend starting your search with their Sanna or Foundation Dress . Both are cute, easy to clean, and the solid color options make them a versatile piece that’s easy to dress up or down.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

5. Bluffworks: Trevi Dress ($145)

  • Best for : Business travel and urban adventures
  • Colors : Black, navy, crimson
  • Features: This is a travel dress with pockets, pockets, pockets. Also wrinkle-resistant and machine washable.
  • Material : 98% polyester, 2% spandex

If you’re a long-time reader of the Tortuga Backpacks blog, you might have noticed that we love Bluffwork’s men’s chinos. But, guess what, ladies? They now have a women ’s line which includes the Trevi Dress , which comes in several different colors.

It’s a simple shift dress cut, which makes it versatile and easy to style for multiple occasions. But don’t let that simple, classic style fool you: this dress packs a lot of thoughtful features.

Made from a machine-washable, moisture-wicking, polyester blend, this dress is both comfortable and virtually impossible to wrinkle. Slits on the bottom make it the first-ever shift dress I’ve ever been able to bike in—without shorts underneath. Add in the generous pockets and discreet straps to hold your bra, and the Trevi becomes not just one of the best travel dresses, but one of the best everyday dresses I’ve ever worn. Whether you’re on a business backpacking trip or a leisure trip , the Trevi is the perfect travel dress to accompany you for it all.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

2. ADAY: Over in One Dress ($175)

  • Best for : Summer and urban travel
  • Colors : Dark blue, light blue, white
  • Features: Wrinkle-resistant, pill-resistant, and sweat-wicking
  • Material : 73% polyester, 27% elastane

For travel-ready outfits, I can’t get enough of ADAY, a technical clothing brand for women with stylish yet durable pieces. Whatever I wear from them, I’m confident it’ll pack down well, look great, and wash/dry easily. All of these things can, of course, be said about their Back to Front dress.

Unlike the rest of the dresses listed, it’s a long-sleeve dress, making it a great option for cold weather travel. For warmer days, roll up the long sleeves and wear the dress on its own. When temperatures drop, style it with a jacket or over a pair of leggings for a cute but warm look.

Best yet, the design allows you to create five different styles out of it, so even if it’s the only dress in your bag, it won’t feel that way. Button up in the back for a classy night-time look, or turn them into the front for a casual daytime or business casual outfit.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

4. Everlane: Japanese GoWeave Picnic Dress ($100)

  • Best for : Urban exploration and summer travel
  • Colors: Black, white
  • Material : 100% triacetate

Comfortable to wear and made of a triacetate fabric that’s resistant to wrinkles, this timeless piece by Everlane is a great addition to your travel wardrobe for urban adventures or sunny, summer getaways.

All of their colors are timeless in design and easy to style. Simply pair with sneakers for a casual day of walking around the city.If you prefer something in a different style, great news: Everlane has a whole line of GoWeave dresses in varying cuts, colors, and prices, but made of that same wrinkle-resistant fabric that makes this dress travel-ready.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

6. VacayStyle: Keyhole Twist 2-Piece Dress ($148)

  • Best for : Summer travel
  • Colors : Black, blue
  • Features: Machine washable, wrinkle-resistant dress
  • Material : 95% polyester, 5% spandex

VacayStyle’s line of two-piece dresses is designed for stylish travelers who want to pack light . These wrinkle-free, casual summer dresses can be worn together or separately with a pair of pants or another top to transform into a different outfit.

Although all of their dresses are designed for travel, the Keyhole Twist 2-Piece is a versatile option for many different warm-weather travel destinations. The shorter midi-cut on the skirt make it a little more breathable than their maxi skirts, and the tank top has enough coverage to work in more conservative destinations , like India .

Overall, it’s a super packable dress, lightweight and wrinkle-resistant, and dries quickly. Plus, it’s super soft to the touch and flattering on many different body types (as is their Ruched Dress , $118, which doubles as a skirt and sleeveless dress).Wherever you’re going, roll this dress up, put it in your travel backpack , and get ready to pose for the perfect Instagram shot.

Theives the metamorph dress review

7. Theives: The METAmorph dress ($125)

  • Best for : Everywhere and anywhere
  • Colors : Grey, black, and plum
  • Features: Can be worn 24 different ways
  • Material: 90% organic bamboo with 10% spandex

When I asked fellow travel blogger and carry-on packer Andrea from Mommy Gearest about her favorite travel dress, she was quick to name the METAmorph.

While most travel dresses are versatile because you can style them for various occasions—dressing them up or down with shoes and accessories—Theive’s METAmorph dress is versatile in a whole other way. You can arrange the dress into 24 different variations. From sleeveless maxi to long-sleeved mini, this creatively designed piece will give you enough options to stave off your fashion doldrums while on the road. And yes, it’s wrinkle-free , comfortable, easy to move in, and easy to wash.

Columbia freezer dress review

8. Columbia: Freezer Dress

  • Best : Tropical and beach travel
  • Colors : Several prints and black solid
  • Features: Sun protection, cooling and wicking fabric
  • Material : 92% polyester, 8% elastane jersey

Compared to the other dresses on this list, Columbia’s Freezer Dress is the most technical and outdoors-ready. The fabric is both cooling and blocks UV rays, making it a great option for tropical and beachy destinations. Simple yet flattering, it’s a casual dress that can handle adventurous, warm-weather destinations, like Thailand , Kenya , or Costa Rica.

For this kind of travel, I’m more concerned about packing a dress that’s sturdy, comfortable, and doesn’t get dirty easily. It doesn’t have to be fashion-forward, but flattering enough to make me feel like a good-looking human again after hiking for three days in the same t-shirt. Columbia’s Freezer Dress is that dress.

What's a travel dress

What’s a Travel Dress?

You may have dozens of dresses in your closet, but a travel dress is going to be one that you can wear in multiple different situations and climates, is made from a material that resists odors and wrinkles, is durable, and dries quickly.

Ideally, it also has pockets because, well, pockets .

While you might be able to find something that looks cute on the ‘gram for your vacation in Cozumel via a fast-fashion brand, it might get rumpled, stinky, or stretched out quickly. A dress that truly travels well has the following traits.

Comfortable, Durable, and Wrinkle-Resistant

Some fabrics are better for travel clothes than others .

If your dress is made of a synthetic material like polyester, that’s a good sign that likely won’t wrinkle. Natural fabrics like merino wool are also incredibly good for travel. Also look for something with a small percentage of spandex or elastane, which adds extra comfort and stretch.

Shorter Cuts You Can Layer

Midi and mini cut dresses lend themselves better to layering, as do short-sleeve or sleeveless dresses. While maxi dresses are fun, I find that I can make more outfit combinations with shorter cuts.

Versatile Style and Design

As a rule of thumb, look for a style that you could easily design an outfit around for both a casual brunch and a nice night out. Usually, this means avoiding anything overly trendy and sticking to something within your preferred color palette.

For me, that means black. You’ll always find me in a black travel dress.

Durable and High Quality

Especially if you take long trips or travel often, choose a dress that’s well made and will last for years of adventuring. You don’t want to waste time, money, and resources buying a new dress every time you take a trip.

The brands mentioned above ( Curator , prAna , Everlane , ADAY , Leith , and Columbia ) have great options for travel dresses—even if our original recommendations are out of stock. Additionally, I surveyed dozens of ladies about their favorite travel dresses and ExOfficio , Athleta , Kameleon Rose , and Toad&Co came up as tried and trusted brands for travel dresses. When in doubt, check our favorite brands for travel dresses: prAna , Everlane , ADAY , Leith , Columbia , ExOfficio , Athleta , Kameleon Rose , and Toad&Co .

My Anatomie Travel Capsule Wardrobe: Best Wrinkle Free Travel Clothes for Women

Sharing is Caring!

I have this thing. If I have really nice clothing – like, favourite stylish travel clothes, I tend not to wear them as often as I’d like to. Instead, I still wear wrinkle-free travel clothes – but cheaper, older, less comfortable, or less stylish clothes and I justify keeping my favourites in the (proverbial) closet (which for me is actually my luggage ), so I can save them for a more “special” occasion.

best travel dresses wrinkle free

I saw Loretta LaRoche speak at a conference. She grew up being told by her mother that she could only wear her nice underwear on special occasions. Thing is, there was never an occasion special enough to put on these “party pants”. She also poked fun at people who have sitting rooms they never sit in, with nice furniture covered in protective plastic. Her theory was that we could all love life a lot more if we enjoyed the things we have rather than perpetually saving them for another day….a day that may never come.

I’m here to say it’s time to wear our party pants.

I have traveled with two tiny packing cubes of easy care travel clothes from Anatomie Travel Clothing for three weeks, in true capsule wardrobe fashion. It changed the way I will travel (and live!) forever.

And for the fellas: Here’s your own Travel Capsule Wardrobe for Men !

NOTE: This article was originally published in 2016, and gets updated regularly – at least once a year. Some of the styles pictured here have been discontinued; I’ve replaced some with newer shots, but I also wanted to show that I’ve been wearing Anatomie clothes for over a DOZEN years! Even though some styles come and go, the signature materials, design ethics, elevated style, and travel-friendly properties remain constant.

My Journey With Anatomie Travel Clothing

The birth of the Anatomie capsule wardrobe idea

I visited Anatomie Travel Clothing’s headquarters in Miami. I’d been a fan of Anatomie for years already; they sent me my first outfit in 2012 – an outfit that is still going strong, all these years (and abuse) later. (See also: Anatomie – My New Favourite Travel Clothing )

Shawn and Kate (Anatomie’s co-founders) talked about cost-per-wear. While doing some math, I realized that their prices (a stumbling block for me) weren’t as high as I’d initially thought if I worked out how many miles I could get out of them – literally and figuratively. So, I threw out my jeans .

I returned to Anatomie’s headquarters a second time with a furrowed brow. My favourite travel pants – the Kate Skinny Cargo pants, which I got just a couple of years prior – had worn in the strangest of ways. It led to concerns about the quality of their travel clothes on the whole. My original capris were doing great! Why had the Kate pants deteriorated like this in a fraction of the time?

Anatomie was churning out a huge number of new styles at the time, becoming a highly-recognized brand name in the luxury market as the ultimate travel clothes for women. Had they grown too big for their own good?

Luckily, my concerns were assuaged when I received a brand new pair of Kate pants and was assured that any customer with a similar problem would be afforded the same treatment. They said that occasionally material from the end of a roll could do funny things like this, and while they hadn’t seen this particular problem before, they would look out for it in the future.

While Anatomie may be growing exponentially, they still pride themselves on superior service and developing long-term relationships with their customers, as evidenced by the expedient replacement of my defective pants, their personal style concierge service, and more.

Not only did they replace my Kate pants, but they loaded me up with a whole bunch of new styles and Anatomie “ Travel Essential ” pieces. (Travel Essentials are styles they carry year after year because they’re so popular, and customers get angry if Anatomie stops making them.)

With this gift of new clothes, they issued me a challenge: pack and wear only Anatomie clothes for my next trip. So, I did; the next opportunity I had to leave my big suitcase I armed myself for three weeks with two wee packing cubes of Anatomie clothes.

Here’s what I learned about what makes for the best wrinkle free travel clothes for women. (See the end of this post for an exact list of what I traveled with, so you can design your own ideal travel capsule wardrobe).

Two packing cubes, used for my Anatomie travel capsule wardrobe challenge

Before we go any further, I must tell you that I have received a ton of Anatomie clothing for free since the beginning of my partnership. I’ll also add that I’ve bought many styles for myself at retail prices. I put my money where my mouth is, and I endorse Anatomie for having terrific travel clothes for women. As such, if you click on any of the links in this post and buy Anatomie clothes, I will receive a small commission. It doesn’t affect your price, and it helps me keep running The Professional Hobo . I appreciate your support in advance!

Use the discount code NORA20 to get $20 off your order! (Minimum order amount is $120 to qualify. Enjoy free shipping on all domestic orders.

Quality travel clothing will go the distance – literally and figuratively.

My Cargo Capris (since discontinued, though keep an eye on the Anatomie website – they occasionally revive them for a season) are still going strong since getting them in 2012. This is one style that I haven’t saved for special occasions; over the years, I’ve worn these pants more than any other pair of pants I’ve owned. Like, ever. After all these years of abuse, the material is softer and even comfier.

I’ve washed them in dodgy washing machines around the world, and they’ve even seen a few dryers (which you’re not supposed to do, FYI). The only thing I can say is that the material has thinned out a little (but not so much as to be a problem), and has also stretched out a little (due to my own weight gain/loss/gain/loss/etc. over the years).

Regarding fit in general, Anatomie advises that you can expect that the signature stretch wrinkle-free material used for their pants will stretch over time (it’s what makes Anatomie pants a custom fit, as it stretches to hug your curves perfectly). More on this later.

Washing and Drying

If you’re traveling with a limited (capsule) wardrobe, washing and drying must be easy.

Need to dry your pants in a hurry? A simple hairdryer will do the trick in just a few mins! (Almost) everything Anatomie offers is machine washable in cold water.

Machine dryers, in general, are horrible on your clothes (they exponentially accelerate deterioration), nor are they particularly environmentally friendly. Luckily most Anatomie styles dry quickly, usually overnight.

Feeling slick in my stylish and sexy (and practical!) travel clothes for women - Kate pants and patterned top

Wrinkle Free Packing

Packing light means not having a lot of space. Irons are not an option.

Are you worried about cramming those expensive duds into a packing cube ? Don’t. Anatomie makes easy care travel clothes, and although some pieces may come out of your luggage looking wrinkled, the wrinkles easily fall out as soon as you put them on. You will love their wrinkle resistant fabrics, life-changing!

Other styles made of crazy comfy jersey and mesh (here are their current lightweight jackets and wide variety of shirts ) are truly wrinkle free in all respects. Scrunch it up in a ball in your bag. I dare ya.

Comfort Vs. Style

There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable. Except perhaps, being underdressed.

Luckily there’s no compromise! I’m just as comfy in my Luisa skinny jeans  on a plane as I am in a pair of leggings. Except, I’m wearing something considerably more stylish than leggings.

Even the Andrea Contrast Panel leggings are more-than-leggings.

For me, the perfect travel wardrobe has stylish travel clothes, without being pretentious. Regardless of whether you’re dressed up or down, you’re comfortable. Travel throws you enough curveballs; you’d better be comfy in your second skin.

On the topic of comfort, their Pima Cotton Tank Tops  are made from Pima cotton, from Peru. I was ambivalent when they suggested I try it out ( it’s a plain tank top….kinda boring right? ), but it quickly became my absolute favourite top to wear. It’s suuuuuuuper soft, breathable, won’t shrink, goes with everything, and just like most of Anatomie’s styles, can be machine washed (on cold), and will dry fast.

The Pam Mesh Panel Long Sleeve Top from Anatomie is great wrinkle free travel clothing!

Staying Warm

Cool/cold weather is the biggest challenge to packing light. The secret is in layering.

Most of Anatomie’s travel clothing styles are very lightweight – which is both a selling point and a challenge. The signature stretch fabric used to make most of their pants is light as a feather, which means it won’t weigh you down as you take off, but if you’re taking off to chilly places, you might be cold.

Over the years, I’ve found ways to circumvent these challenges:

Layer Under. While most of Anatomie’s travel pants are slim-fitting, there’s still room for a pair of leggings underneath for added warmth.

Layer Over. This is where Anatomie’s travel jackets shine. While one of their mesh jackets is ridiculously comfortable over a tank top and takes the edge off a summer night, it’s also warmer than it looks and can be worn over a long-sleeved top (which also shows through the mesh, and looks very nice).

The same goes for the Kenya Safari Jacket , which is hands-down their most popular travel jacket , and for good reason. It’s roomy enough to go over thicker under-layers, yet form-fitting enough to be super stylish and flattering.

If you find yourself in even chillier climes, they have a selection of quilted, cashmere, and even leather styles. I still have a style of an Anatomie travel jacket (which they don’t carry anymore) that is ideal for shoulder season climates.

Anatomie travel jackets go the mile for comfort and style!

2024 UPDATE: I spent a whole winter in a snowy mountain town, with the help of Anatomie’s new Cozy Essentials lineup ! Their fleece-lined signature styles (like the Kenya Jacket and Skyler Pants) are literally the comfiest clothes I own – super stretchy and soft. And lucky for me, they’re also the most stylish clothes I own. Best of all worlds!

Free Returns and Clothing Guarantees

Spending a lot of money on the perfect travel capsule wardrobe? Free returns are critical.

I’m still leery of ordering clothes online. Even with sizing charts, you just never know how something will fit.

Anatomie understands this, and orders placed in the U.S. include free returns . And rumour has it they’re going to offer free returns to Canadian customers very soon too!

So if you’re curious about how that shirt or pair of pants will fit, there’s no risk in ordering it and finding out first-hand.

The same goes for clothing defects. While normal wear and tear are on your own dime, if there’s a problem with an Anatomie style, they’ll send you a new pair, as I experienced myself. Anatomie wants you to be 100% happy with your clothes, as they’ve demonstrated to me repeatedly.

Travel Clothing for Women with Curves

Most people aren’t models. So how do we know if those pants will actually fit AND look good?

Over the years, I’ve grown, and not just emotionally! While I’m not disproportionate or overweight, my measurements baffle many sizing charts.

While trying to order pants and a shirt from (another) online clothing company, I couldn’t figure out which sizes to get. According to their sizing charts, I was somewhere between a Small and Medium for the shirt (but my bust measurement said I should be Large – and believe me, my boobs aren’t that spectacular).

When it came to my lower half, my self-esteem “bottomed” out. While I was accustomed to being a size 6-8, my recent weight gain put me in the (8-10) category. This particular clothing company’s size 12 looked like it would still be too small. And….size 12 was their largest size. Who does that?!?! I have no idea what other curvy women would do if they tried to order anything from this company. (To their credit, my complaints inspired them to change their sizing charts, which is why they shall remain nameless in this post.) I simply share this story here as an example of how screwed up sizing is across the board, especially when it comes to women’s pants.

Shawn (Anatomie’s co-founder and chief designer) stood by while I tried on a huge variety of clothes, and he told me how they’re supposed to fit and made specific sizing recommendations.

Even though I wanted to err on the side of caution with larger sizes, Shawn warned me that most of Anatomie’s pants stretch up to a whole size over time ; and my older Anatomie pants are testament to this. So, if your own Anatomie travel pants are a bit tight to begin with, never fear: their signature stretch fabric is a bit of a miracle-worker and will mold to your curves perfectly with time.

Loving the Kenya Safari Jacket by Anatomie: best wrinkle free travel clothing for women

Here are some observations about how Anatomie’s stylish travel clothes are made for curvy women :

  • The Suzette Skort  has built-in jersey bicycle shorts. While this does add a bit to the packing weight and bulk, my thighs thanked me; can you say “ no thigh rub?? ” (Not a fan of the short skirt? I get it. Here are their current dresses , which include some super classy styles. I own their Marine Travel Dress , which is super flattering for all figures and made of a material that can literally be balled up and stuffed into a corner of my luggage and come out ready for the runway).
  • I asked Shawn which styles of Anatomie’s travel pants are best for the curvy woman; he said the Kate Pant  (which I can attest to). More recently, Anatomie has come out with a whole line of pants for curvy women! You can now shop their entire site by body type , which is very useful.
  • Not all women appreciate tight shirts. While I do recommend having at least one somewhat form-fitting tank top and long-sleeved top for layering underneath jackets and such, I also like having a “let it all hang out” sort of top. Anatomie has a selection of looser-fitting tops that will turn heads; just have a browse through the store to see their latest designs, as their styles are always changing.

Not sure yourself? Here is one of the many bangs you get for your buck with Anatomie, in addition to free returns and quality guarantees: their personal Style Concierge will assist you with personalized fit and styling tips . You’ll find their personal email on the Contact page of the website, and their assistance is very valuable (and of course, free).

Anatomie Wrinkle Resistant Clothing Recommendations

Here is what I packed when I took the challenge to travel with only Anatomie clothing. Note: many of the exact items I took with me have been discontinued. I’ve switched them out here with new items (that I own) which are comparable replacements. Depending on the climate at your destination, you might want to adjust this selection. For example when visiting a hot climate you’ll want to switch out a jacket or long-sleeved shirt for another tank/tee. This travel capsule wardrobe is ideal for warm temperate weather.

Bailey Mesh Jacket (it won’t wrinkle, no matter how hard you try!)

Kenya Safari Jacket (stylish, can be worn with sleeves rolled up or down, zipped up to the neck, etc)

Calista Rollup Henley Top (pima cotton, long-sleeved), AND/OR

Alida button-down Poplin Shirt (I love this dressy shirt because the front panel is a structured material, and the arms and back are soft stretchy jersey)

Jackson Pima Cotton Tank (a staple for any travel wardrobe, perfect on its own and for layering)

Flo Tee (note: here’s their current collection of tops to choose from )

Suzette Skort (with built-in jersey bicycle shorts)

Luisa Skinny Jean OR Kate Skinny Cargo Pant (I own and adore both, but I choose just one per trip)

Darby Pant (new in 2024 to their lineup; a looser-fitting pant made with their signature stretch light material)

BONUS: My Top Packing Tips Video

I know, I know. I must sound like a psychotic cheerleader. I promise, I haven’t been drugged, nor unduly forced to write all these accolades. Anatomie approached to develop a long-term relationship, much like they do with all their customers. (The difference being, they started me off with a free outfit, which inspired my love affair with them. Lucky me!).

And as much as I love Anatomie, they love me too, and they’re fascinated at how I traveled with carry-on luggage only for two whole years! While I was visiting Anatomie’s headquarters this year, they turned on the cameras and got me to share my top packing tips for ultralight travel. Here’s what I had to say:

Noted for my wife Nora. I dig the party pants analogy. Good to know of the wrinkle free aspect too; sometimes we travel outside of the tropics. Humidity in places takes care of wrinkles fast but outside of the tropics you need quality, wrinkle-free clothes. Or an iron and board which ain’t happening around much of the world.

That is, unless you practice “extreme ironing”….in which case…..bring on the ironing board! LOL

This is a great post, with the exception of all the body shaming. What’s up with the “real” woman stuff? Is a model a “fake” woman? You’re a great writer, and I know there’s a better way you can get your point across without making some women feel like they don’t qualify as “real” women.

Hey Beck, Great observation – thank you! While curvy women seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to body image issues and persecution on a variety of levels, you are right in that I haven’t acknowledged skinny women as being “real”. I’ve removed all language that isolates any body type as being “real” or otherwise.

Thank you! It makes a difference 🙂

I’m sorry But HAVING mainly ANOREXIC MODELS EVERYWHERE ADVERTISING LADIES CLOTHING IS NOT REALISTIC AND DOES NOTHING BUT PUT UNREALISTIC IMAGES on how we should LOOK and THAT’S wrong because yes they ARE FAKE THEIR ANOREXIC AIRBRUSHED BLOWN UP/ DEFLATED ETC ( REFERRING TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF BODY) Therefore We have TOO MANY GIRLS GROWING UP WANTING 2 LOOK LIKE THAT INSTEAD OF BEING HAPPY WITH WHO THEY ARE SO THEY WIND UP DEAD!!!!!! FROM STARVATION. DEPRESSION OVERDOSE PREGNANT ALL DUE TO UNREALISTIC TOOTHPICK IMAGE MEDIA PLACES ON HOW FEMALE BODY SHOULD LOOK

AMEN TO ALL LADIES OF ALL SIZES WHO ARE NATURAL WITHOUT ANY COSMETIC SURGERY DONE!!!

I am very happy 2 see women of all sizes are finally being noticed and admired!

Nora, I was ready to like this company you love in spite of the big price tags. Just thought you should be aware how an ordinary customer is treated. I found this in the reviews from the Skyler Skinny Pant. I’m afraid that you get special treatment from the company. If they really backed up their products for defects it might be worth it. But 10% discount is nothing to compensate this woman for a messed up zipper on a very expensive pair of pants.

hannah poor policy I have purchased a pair of Anatomie pants and was very satisfied with the product, until I had the inner seam of the zipper seperate from the fabric so they are no longer wearable. I have worn the pants no more than 10 times, but being outside of the 30 days they would not help me. Since this was obviously a quality issue I feel like this says something about the company as a whole. Anatomie >> replied: Hannah, thank you for contacting us; we apologize for the inconvenience. We looked into the matter and since the pants were purchased about a year ago, and that particular style is no longer in production, we will not be able to issue a replacement. But we would like to offer you 10% off your next purchase for the inconvenience encountered. If you have any other questions, please contact us at [email protected] , we would love to help!

Hi Linda, Oh my! That’s not good. I’ve contacted the team at Anatomie to look into this. I hope there’s another side to this story, because indeed, this contradicts what I understand their customer service policy to be.

I wonder if perhaps she bought the last of a line that was being discontinued and was thus on clearance sale. Anything on super clearance wouldn’t likely be subject to the same return/exchange policy.

Nora, since I wrote the above post, I have given Anatomie a try. Customer service has been wonderful, namely Raquel. It’s very difficult to get the style and size right on first try and she’s shown some flexibility. I tried the popular Skyler pants and am lukewarm about the fit. I’m going to give your Luisa Skinny Jeans a try! (Did you by any chance try the Lora Nylon & Fleece jacket? Seems to be one of their Italian items.)

Anyway, I love your blog! I signed up for your emails and am loving your writing and all the helpful information. I’m simply thrilled!

P.S. We’re going to Cuenca January-February! We’re putting the house on the market and hope to find house-sitting gigs while we are here in the Atlanta area to give us more flexibility. We had part of this plan in process when I landed on your blog. You gave me the extra push I needed to try house-sitting and work-aways. We had already signed up for WorkAway and my nephew uses WWOOF. We’ll probably try both!

Hi Linda, I’m so very glad that you gave Anatomie a shot and that your experience has been positive! I didn’t really like the Skyler pant fit either, so I hope you like the Luisa in contrast (I think you will). I haven’t tried the Lora jacket, but it looks beautiful.

And thank you for reading! Good luck with the sale of the house (and all your stuff in it – ha ha), and I hope you enjoy your time in Cuenca. It’s a gorgeous place.

Happy Travels!

From being stylish to help you get through your daily workouts, leggings have got it all.

Amen to that!

I keep asking for someone to post a blog for clothes for women over 60. Everything I see is for twenty year old. Travelled to over 65 countries. Now in my seventies cannot wear the ridiculous clothes and shoes., no one writes for older women. Pity.

Hi Sue, I’m sorry you feel under-represented and under-served by myself and other sites. I would have thought that at least some of the styles offered by Anatomie are ageless. Many are conservative, and most are classy – especially the jackets and tops.

It seems you are raving about quite a few garments no longer made. Perhaps you should update and let us know how the replacement garments actually pack and hold up.

Lastly, cost-per-wear is simply semantics for overcharging. Much can be done with less expensive clothing. You just gotta throw on a pashmina or a bright scarf over inexpensive tops and slacks/skirts.

This is not to say expensive travel clothing doesn’t have its place. I definitely have some expensive regular clothing, since I show dogs. (Take a look at the womens’ suits worn on the Westminster telecast, including St. John’s.) But I’m buying less expensive travel clothing so I may spend my money in Florence. 😎

Hi Jennifer, I think the very fact that I’m still wearing styles I got 10 years ago (that have since been discontinued) it testament to how long Anatomie clothing lasts! I haven’t had to replace them. New designs by Anatomie (and they’re constantly updating their lineup as many fashion brands do) continue to use their signature stretch material and other travel-friendly materials. So it’s safe to assume their new styles pack and hold up just as well as all the garments I’ve gotten over the last 10 years.

As for cost-per-wear and choice of travel clothing, all that boils down to your budget and your priorities. Spending less money on clothes so you can spend more money in Florence is a perfectly justifiable decision!

As a former national sewing instructor and alterations expert, I have to respectfully disagree. Cost-per-wear is a valid calulation, but one easily forgotten in these days of disposable clothing. (I’m not talking about overpaying for a logo, but buying true quality.) Compare a dense wool winter coat or jacket with proper interfacing, interlining, thermal lining, appropriate stitching with durable high-quality thread and natural horn buttons V. a trendy coat from a big box or mall store made from a cheap blend that beads up, little if any interfacing, thin rayon lining, long stitches of flimsy poly thread and plastic buttons that doesn’t combat the cold or breathe like a natural fiber. Real quality means buy it once, take care of it, wear it for years. Or… buy cheap where only pennies of the price are spent on overseas labor and oil-based, polluting materials while the rest is spent on polluting transportation and trendy marketing, just to result in pilling within a wash or two, and sweat and stink that clings to the cheap fabric, then toss it in a landfill where it sits unchanged for generations or crate it on a pallet and ship it yet again to a poor country where starving children pick for rags. A quick google will provide a thorough and absolutely shocking education on how cheap fashion has degraded people, industry and our environment — all for a $10 pair of sweat pants that won’t last a season. If people focused their closets (and suitcases) on a classic, high-quality, long-lasting classic capsule wardrobe and supplemented with very few, cheap trendy pieces, they’d be much more comfortable, cause a lot less damage… and spend a LOT less in the long run. So the next time you compare prices, think about what went into producing the garment, the quality of the materials and construction, how long it will last, how it will hold up over time – and do that cost per wear.

Very well said and something not enough people think about. Unfortunately people on a low income (such as myself) can’t often afford to spend a lot on clothes. I am a larger women, so my choices of where to shop are limited. I wear my clothes until they wear out and hardly ever buy new clothes. I don’t have the money and find it hard to find something that suits.

This was amazing. I always seem to have the most trouble with my clothes wrinkling. I am very excited to try out your advice and see how they stand up against my clothes.

So thank you for this 🙂

– Sara

Time to remove or update this post. Cannot count how many times you said an item was discontinued and I wasted time trying to find the meat of this article.

Thanks for the feedback, Laura. I update this post regularly (which is why I discuss how items have been discontinued – that’s an update!) to show that I have owned and continue to own pieces over the long term – and how long they last, and what the various styles look like. If you click through to Anatomie, you’ll see they offer a ton of new styles, but overall their look is consistent. Also, I just checked all the links I provided – they are up to date!

Ever realize while packing for a trip that you’re only grabbing the clothes that you know won’t be a wrinkled mess when you unpack your suitcase? Even if the hotel room has an iron, it’s time to start packing more wrinkle free travel clothes—because no one wants to spend vacation time ironing.

Wrinkle Free Travel Clothes Perfect for Travel

When it comes to wrinkle-free travel clothes, there are a lot more options out there than you might think. Clothes billed as wrinkle-free are a good start, but there are also a lot of less-obvious items that won’t wrinkle simply because they’re made from high-performance fabrics. From casualwear to business-appropriate button downs, these are the wrinkle free travel clothes you need in your suitcase.

Cotidie Harper Shirtdress

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Made out of Cotidie’s unique LunAir fabric, the Harper Shirtdress repels wrinkles while being incredibly comfortable. The lightweight material is breathable, stretchy, and machine-washable, making it the perfect dress to throw in your suitcase.

Everlane Heavyweight Tee

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Love wearing soft cotton but hate how easily it wrinkles? Look for heavier weight cotton fabrics, which are less likely to crease and still perfect for sensitive skin. Everlane’s Heavyweight Tee is made of two-ply cotton that fits the bill and still breathes.

Bluffworks Gramercy Blazer

best travel dresses wrinkle free

As a men’s clothing brand that’s big on wrinkle-free travel clothes, Bluffworks offers truly wrinkle-free workwear that includes the Gramercy Blazer . It’s available in both classic and slim fits so you can customize to your fit. It’s also quick-drying,  lightweight, and has 10 pockets perfect for storing necessities—which might make you wonder why you’ve wasted more money on any other traditional work blazers.

Orvis’ Wrinkle-Free Cotton Button Downs

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Didn’t think there was such a thing as a no-iron cotton dress shirt? Orvis’ Wrinkle Free Cotton Twill Shirt for men will prove you wrong by staying crisp throughout the longest business flights. It’s 100 percent cotton with a soil-release finish, has a chest pocket perfect for travel, and comes in tall sizes for men who need some extra length in both the body and sleeves. Orvis also offers women’s versions like the Wrinkle-Free Traditional Plaid Tunic .

J.Crew Factory Gigi Pants

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Stretchy leggings can look office appropriate, include pockets, and be wrinkle free thanks to J.Crew Factory’s Gigi pants , a raved-about style from the brand’s more-affordable outlet stores. The synthetic nylon and spandex won’t fade in color as fast as rigid fabrics like cotton. It also makes them comfy and fast-drying.

Leota Dresses

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Need a fancier-yet-cozy travel dress? Forget steaming it in the vacation rental’s bathroom while you shower, or using the hotel room iron. Leota travel dresses come in dozens of patterns and styles (including plus sizes) and are made from synthetic fabrics like spandex, which means they won’t wrinkle even if you toss them unfolded into your suitcase.

Prana Brion Pant

best travel dresses wrinkle free

Another fabric-conscious retailer offering wrinkle-free travel clothing, Prana uses Stretch Zion material, which is coated with a quick-drying layer that also makes it wrinkle less. Still stretchy enough to be comfortable on the plane, the Prana Brion Pant comes in a sleek slim fit with added UPF 50 sun protection, and the water repellent finish will also save you from spills.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

When I arrive at a new destination, I love to unpack immediately. It’s one of the secrets to feeling settled as quickly as possible (jet lag notwithstanding). What I dislike with a passion is pulling out clothes that are covered in wrinkles. Before I discovered the magic of wrinkle-resistant clothing , I used to bring mostly linen outfits on my tropical trips. You can only imagine the nightmare that unfolded when I unzipped my bags.

Wrinkle-resistant clothing, on the other hand, is brilliant for travel. Not only are these pieces treated to survive the suitcase unscathed, but they even come out of their packaging without wrinkles. And many are designed to be machine-washed, but still air-dry straight out of the washer without a crease in sight. There are plenty of wrinkle-resistant pants, tops, dresses, shorts and more out there, so it’s conceivable to design your entire travel wardrobe around this kind of convenience. Plus, many items made to be wrinkle-proof are also engineered with other travel-friendly features: they might wick sweat, repel water, dry quickly, or even protect you from UV rays.

I found 14 fantastic items of wrinkle-free travel clothes for women and men that you can buy for under $45 each at Amazon right now, including a classic button-down , flowy wedding guest dress , and a pair of $25 Wranglers cargo shorts that will make you look like you packed a travel steamer in your luggage. But the secret is these pieces only make you look high-maintenance — and starting at $11, each one is a steal.

Grace Karin Women’s Tie-Waist Casual Shorts With Pockets

We dare you not to fall head over heels for these adorable shorts with their bowknot front tie and their amazing ability to withstand wrinkling even when shoved into your carry-on. They’re made of half viscose, which we love for breathability, and have some polyamide, too, which helps these Grace Karin shorts wick sweat, so they’re great for when you know you’ll be out all day. That fully elastic waist helps them fit and flatter most figures, so this one’s really a throw-it-on-and-go piece — and we really dig this trendy, neutral rust color. “I took them to sweltering Vietnam and was so glad! They are super lightweight to pack and do not wrinkle! They were cool and looked great for photos,” wrote a happy traveler.

This Amazon Essentials shirt has a breathable chiffon construction so it’s not only a stay-cool staple but a light-as-air packing essential. And this one comes in a bunch of neutral and vibrant hues, from pale peach to deep violet, to punch up your holiday style. “I bought these in almost every color,” wrote a big fan. “They never wrinkle.
