Each school will be given one hundred thousand dollars and will select the student recipients. BeyGOOD’s total scholarship commitment during RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR will be one million dollars.

Working with Beyoncé and the BeyGOOD Foundation, Citi and Verizon will purchase 100 tickets combined in each market across the U.S. touring leg for distribution to local community initiatives.

Beyoncé Announces ‘Renaissance’ Stadium Tour Dates

beyonce dubai performance

As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Popular on Variety

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Beyoncé Announces ‘Renaissance’ 2023 World Tour

Another Ticketmaster war is on the horizon as the BeyHive prepares for battle. After weeks of speculation, Beyoncé has officially confirmed a world tour in support of Renaissance , scheduled to make stops in stadiums across the world in 2023 .

The musician confirmed the news on Wednesday morning. The tour will begin in Europe this May before landing in North America on July 8 with back-to-back nights at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. The tour will make stops in Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and more.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

The Renaissance tour marks Beyoncé’s first extended stretch on the road since the On the Run tour, which made 48 stops across North America and Europe in 2018. Those shows were proceeded by the singer’s redefining Coachella performance, which arrived as the Netflix concert film Homecoming the following year.

The clips sparked multiple viral moments, the most notable being Beyoncé’s new vocal arrangements on familiar records, including “Drunk in Love” and “Countdown.” The private concert, notably, did not include any Renaissance tracks on the setlist, even the chart-topping lead single “Break My Soul.”

The tour announcement arrives as a saving grace for a starved BeyHive, still yearning for any meaningful visual companion pieces to the singer’s acclaimed seventh studio album. If Beyoncé is heading on the road again, maybe the wait for the music videos she teased in the record release trailer won’t be too much longer.

Beyoncé extends ‘Renaissance’ world tour, will now play two SoFi shows

After Beyoncé got the BeyHive — and every other Bey-adjacent fan — buzzing with her “Renaissance” tour announcement, concert promoter Live Nation on Thursday said the artist has extended her tour but that “demand drastically exceeds supply.”

Beyoncé on Wednesday announced her forthcoming “Renaissance” world tour and posted the concert dates on her website . The singer will travel across Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States — including threestops in California.

On Aug. 30, the “Break My Soul” hitmaker will play Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, followed by Sept. 2 and Sept. 3 shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The tour will kick off May 10 in Stockholm and conclude Sept. 27 in New Orleans.

Grammys, you have one job on Sunday: Give Beyoncé album of the year

She’s among the most honored artists in Grammy history, but has never won album of the year. Racism? Sexism? Rockism? On Sunday, the Grammys are out of excuses.

Feb. 2, 2023

On Thursday, Live Nation announced the first extension to the tour “due to huge demand” and added seven stops in North America, including the second SoFi show. The Grammy winner will also play additional shows in Toronto; Chicago; East Rutherford, N.J.; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta and her hometown of Houston.

Fans can register for Ticketmaster’s “Renaissance” tour sale via Beyoncé’s website by signing up for any of three registration groups with different deadlines and different cities — perhaps an attempt to streamline the ticket-buying process and prevent another Eras tour fiasco . Buyers are permitted to sign up for multiple registration groups.

The California dates are split between two groups: The deadline to register for Inglewood is Thursday at 8:59 p.m. Pacific time, while the deadline to register for Santa Clara is Feb. 9 at 8:59 p.m. Pacific time. Live Nation said Thursday that verified fan registration for the new dates closes Friday noon Eastern time (9 a.m. Pacific).

“Fan demand already exceeds the number of available tickets by more than 800% based on current registration numbers in the Group A cities,” Live Nation said Thursday. “To help meet demand for this first group of dates going on sale, seven shows have now been added based on venue and scheduling availabilities around the time of the tour. Even with these added dates, it is still expected that the majority of interested fans will not be able to get tickets because demand drastically exceeds supply.”

Additionally, members of Beyoncé’s official fan club are eligible to sign up for Ticketmaster’s BeyHive presale via the same registration groups and deadlines. More details and instructions are available on the Live Nation website .

A leak threatened to disrupt her meticulously plotted rollout, but no matter: ‘Renaissance’ is as musically (and sexually) provocative as any album in 2022.

For non-BeyHive members, two other presale opportunities also exist: Anyone with a Citi credit card can access the Citi presale by entering their credit card number; and any Verizon customers with Verizon Up can apply for the company’s exclusive presale for select U.S. shows through its customer loyalty program.

Rumors of a Renaissance tour have been circulating since October, when two tickets to see Beyoncé perform “live from anywhere around the world” were auctioned off at her mother and stepfather’s Wearable Art Gala in L.A. The tickets reportedly sold for $150,000.

This marks Queen Bey’s first time hitting the road since she and husband Jay-Z co-headlined their On the Run II tour in 2018. Her first concert since then was last month at luxury hotel Atlantis the Royal in Dubai. The private show was part of a three-day event celebrating the opening of the resort on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island.

Beyoncé unveiled her Renaissance tour dates several months after releasing her seventh studio album of the same name . In November, music from the critically acclaimed record received eight Grammy nominations, including a nod for album of the year. When the Recording Academy released this year’s nominations, Beyoncé and Jay-Z became the most nominated artists of all time with a total of 88 nods apiece.

“Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world,” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram in June.

“It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”

Everything to Know About Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour

Atlantis The Royal Grand Reveal Weekend 2023 - Beyonce Performance

B eyoncé’s fans have been waiting for this day: the pop megastar finally announced that she will embark on the long-awaited Renaissance World Tour. She uploaded a post to Instagram early Wednesday morning with the caption: “RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023,” and her official website has been updated to show the tour dates. The tour starts in May in Sweden and will hit Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Poland, before she makes her way to North America. The first date stateside will be in Philadelphia, Pa., in July and the tour will hit the major U.S. cities before wrapping up in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 27.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Following the release of her seventh album, Renaissance , in July, fans have been itching for a tour announcement, in addition to music videos to accompany the songs. Beyoncé’s last solo tour was the Formation World Tour back in 2016 to support her sixth album, Lemonade . Following that, she went on the On The Run Tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018 after releasing their joint project, Everything Is Love . The announcement of a new tour just before the Grammy Awards on Sunday raises suspicion that Beyoncé might be performing or, at the very least, attending the night’s festivities.

The singer is nominated for nine Grammys at this year’s awards ceremony, which are set to take place on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. This year, she is up against Adele for multiple awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. There has been speculation about whether or not Beyoncé would be performing ever since the nominations were announced. The last time fans saw her perform on a major televised stage was at last year’s Oscars ceremony, where she performed “Be Alive” from the King Richard movie for the first time.

Read More: 6 Takeaways from Beyoncé’s New Album Renaissance

Beyoncé most recently took the stage for a private concert at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal resort in Dubai in January. However, she did not perform any songs from Renaissance . Also, given that Beyoncé unveiled the album’s title on Instagram as “act [one],” her dedicated fanbase has been busy theorizing what acts two and three might be. Some have hypothesized that the tour would be act two and then a concert movie would be act three. Others have ventured to guess that this is a three-part album and that Renaissance was just the beginning.

Tickets for the concert will not be an easy get if Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is any indication. Beyoncé’s fans can click on the date they would like to attend to register for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program and will then have to wait to see if they are given an access code to purchase tickets to the event. With Verified Fan and the “unexpected” traffic the pre-sale brought to the site, many Swifties likened the ticket-buying process to a warzone. The disastrous rollout drew ire from Swift’s fans and political officials alike. After the ticketing fiasco, the Senate held a hearing to look into whether Live Nation and Ticketmaster have a monopoly over the ticketing industry. This, coupled with the technical problems that Swift fans faced, have Beyoncé fans worrying that finding their way to an actual concert will be nothing short of an ordeal.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

Beyoncé Announces Additional Dates For Her Highly Anticipated Renaissance World Tour

beyonce tour dates added

After much speculation and months of waiting, Beyoncé is finally taking " Renaissance " on tour this summer! Queen Bey made the official announcement on Feb. 1 with a dazzling poster for the Renaissance World Tour posted on Instagram and tour dates listed on her website . The news caused so much excitement among fans that Beyoncé added additional dates the very next day.

Beyoncé's announcement comes a few short months after she first teased her world tour at the fifth annual Wearable Art Gala , at which the Grammy winner was in attendance. On Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, she raffled off a lavish concert package valued at $20,000, which included first-class plane tickets, a three-night hotel stay, two "Renaissance" concert tickets, and a guided backstage tour from her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson.

While the exact amount that the package was auctioned off for has yet to be revealed, video footage from the event shows bids reaching $50,000 and more, as reported by Yahoo News . The only thing that's certain is that the first two tickets to the "Renaissance" tour were sold ahead of its wider sale. Now, fans will be able to purchase their own tickets starting on Monday, Feb. 6, beginning with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, per a press release from Live Nation.

Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment-produced tour kicks off on May 10, 2023, at Friends Arena in Stockholm, SE, followed by stops throughout Europe and North America. It comes on the heels of her seventh solo album, act one of a three-part series, which arrived in July 2022, six years after she gave us 2016's " Lemonade ."

The 41-year-old Grammy-winning icon celebrated its release on her website , writing, "We did it!!! Thank you all so much for you love and support . . . This was years of experimentation. This was years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. I'm so grateful and it was worth it. I'm thankful that it was received and understood." She also hosted a star-studded Studio 54-inspired dance party at New York City's Paradise Club to mark the album becoming her seventh No. 1 solo album and the biggest debut from a woman artist this year, per Billboard .

Back in August, Beyoncé teased a clip from her first "Renaissance" music video, " I'm That Girl ," and most recently put on a grandiose live performance at the reveal of Dubai's Atlantis The Royal Hotel, which POPSUGAR was on hand to see, in January — marking her first concert in four years. She didn't perform any of her "Renaissance" songs, but now it's clear she's saving it all for her world tour.

Read ahead to find out everything we know about Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour, including dates and how to buy tickets.

Beyoncé adds second Houston date for world tour, increasing ticket odds for fans

KTRK logo

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Attention all members of the BeyHive: Your odds of seeing Beyoncé at a hometown performance right here in Houston on her upcoming world tour just improved.

After announcing her Renaissance World Tour on Wednesday -- her first tour in five years -- Ticketmaster has already added a second Houston show to the list of tour dates.

READ MORE: Houston's queen Beyoncé comes home as part of highly anticipated new world stadium tour

Now, the music icon will be performing at NRG Stadium two days in row on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24.

Fans who can't get enough can also catch Beyoncé in Dallas two days prior to the first Houston show, where she'll perform at AT &T Stadium on Sept. 21.

Additional shows were also added in Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; East Rutherford, New Jersey; Inglewood, California; and Washington, D.C.

Tickets for the world tour go on sale Monday, Feb. 6. BeyHive members will enjoy an exclusive presale, while other fans can register now with Ticketmaster's Verified Fan technology.

All eyes are on Ticketmaster as the dates for ticket sales near. Fans fear there will be another Taylor Swift-sized meltdown by the company.

High demand has forced Ticketmaster to take measures to avoid another debacle.

In November 2022, the company had to cancel sales for Swift's upcoming tour after the site crashed during the pre-sale. Even Congress got involved with a bipartisan committee looking into the widespread outages and hourslong wait times.

To hopefully make things go smoother with Beyoncé's tour, Ticketmaster said they are implementing rolling dates for ticket sales depending on the city, instead of putting tickets for all shows on sale at once.

However, if you want a ticket, you must sign up as a verified fan -- a lottery process that determines who gets an access code for the sale and who gets placed on a waitlist.

As it happened: Beyoncé adds new dates to Renaissance 2023 tour as MILLIONS of fans scramble to get tickets

Follow our blog for the latest general sale ticket updates on Beyoncé's Renaissance 2023 tour

  • Updated 16:13, 7 FEB 2023

beyonce tour dates added

It's the final chance for fans to secure a ticket to see Beyoncé live in Wales today. General sale tickets will be available to buy from 10am today (February 7) for Beyoncé's Renaissance world tour which sees her performing live at Cardiff's Principality Stadium in May this year.

Due to incredible demand, the global superstar has added two extra dates to her London performances at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on June 3 and 4, 2023. It comes after more than half a million fans joined the Ticketmaster online queues this morning, when tickets became available to buy after 10am.

Beyoncé will also be performing for fans in Edinburgh and Sunderland as part of her first solo tour in six years, celebrating her seventh studio album Renaissance. The 2023 tour, produced by Parkwood Entertainment, and promoted by Live Nation , kicks off on May 10, 2023, at Friends Arena in Stockholm, making stops throughout Europe.

The tour then continues across North America with shows in Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston and more. Fans can buy tickets today on Ticketmaster and Live Nation for all of her shows at 10am today.

The general sale comes after many Beyoncé lovers experienced disappointment last week in the pre-sale ticket releases. O2 Priority's app and desktop site crashed for many fans trying to get early access to tickets on Wednesday (February 1) and it made Live Nation's pre-sale, the day after on February 2, even more in demand as those who failed with O2 tried with the Live Nation pre-sale.

Ticket prices in Cardiff range from £50 to £170 depending on seating or standing allocation, or VIP preferences. Special VIP packages can go all the way up to £1,000 too.

Tickets in the general sale today are expected to sell-out very quickly and it is not yet known if Beyoncé will add further dates to her seven-date UK leg of her world tour. You can follow all the latest ticket and tour updates on in our live blog below. Make sure you post your experiences in the comments below or you can email [email protected].

This live blog has now ended, thank you for following.

Still in the queue?

All is not lost. If you are still in the queue there is a chance to get tickets. We're seeing reports of people securing their seats (or standing spot) several hours after the on-sale time.

The reason for this is that Ticketmaster ringfences tickets for people who get to the front of the queue. Buyers then have a certain time period to buy them. This does not always happen because of errors on the website, people changing their mind or just timing out their cart. In that case tickets will then be opened back up to the next people in the queue. This happens for a number of hours after a big event, meaning there is still a chance to secure your seat.

Tickets selling for over £2,300 on Ticketmaster

Ticket prices in Cardiff range from £50 to £170, depending on seating or standing allocation or VIP preferences - but special VIP packages are on offer for well over £2,000.

As fans continue to scramble for tickets for the Cardiff show and the recently-announced five London shows, many will be disappointed to see such high prices for seats being sold on ticketing platforms.

Fans outraged over lack of accessible tickets

We're seeing a lot of fans take to Twitter to share their frustrations over the lack of available accessible tickets.

Disabled fans have been unable to book companion tickets at most shows at Beyoncé’s upcoming #RENAISSANCEWorldTour . I assume @Ticketmaster think that fans in wheelchairs are able to teleport, and do not need any support navigating some of the largest stadiums in the world. pic.twitter.com/jemezkKFUU — RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR (@RenaissanceWT) February 7, 2023

Fans who require wheelchair access, more leg room or assistance getting to and from their seats can book these tickets through Ticketmaster's Accessible team.

But a lot of people are having issues. When bought Accessible tickets normally come with a free companion or carer seat but this isn't the case for fans today.

In the Twitter thread one fan said the Accessibility team had asked her to buy another ticket for her carer/companion as the system was 'broken'.

FIFTH London show announced

A fifth show has been added to Beyonce's London line-up, on June, 1.

A FIFTH and FINAL date for @Beyonce 's RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR at @SpursStadium is on sale NOW! https://t.co/jMW6gUb2pw https://t.co/uyvwvjxJ0U — Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (@SpursStadium) February 7, 2023

It's been confirmed by the venue, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and is said to be the FINAL extra date. Tickets for the new date can be bought on Ticketmaster, here.

One fan has said it was "easier" to get Beyoncé tickets compared to Peter Kay

One fan has told me it was easier to get tickets today for Beyoncé than it was for Peter Kay.

Molly Dowrick said: "Easier to get #Beyonce tickets than #PeterKay tbh! #wild."

Ticketmaster queue updates

At the moment, for me, there are:

  • 31,822 fans queuing for the Cardiff show on May 17
  • 203,855 fans queuing for the London show on May 29
  • 201,980 fans queuing for the London show on May 30
  • 201,605 fans queuing for the London show on June 3
  • 200,105 fans queuing for the London show on June 4

Still queuing?

Is anyone through the queues yet? Have you managed to get tickets for any of the dates?

When did Beyoncé last come to Wales?

The Crazy in Love star last performed in the Welsh capital in 2018 with her husband Jay-Z opening their combined world tour On The Run II, bringing the city to a standstill. She also visited as part of her Formation tour in 2016.

Wales Online Lifestyle Editor, Kathryn Williams, got to review the show in Wales in 2018 and commented on how the couple's on-stage chemistry made it an unmissable experience, you can read about it here.

More ticket tips for Beyoncé's Renaissance 2023 Tour

  • Once you have created your Ticketmaster account, or logged in, make sure you knbow your passwords and log in details or have them to hand in case anything happens nearer to 10am - for example, computer crashing, internet down, Wifi not working etc.
  • Update your address and payment details on your account in the My Account section on Ticketmaster for a smoother buying process, as usually you only get a few minutes to confirm and buy your tickets once allocated.
  • DO NOT refresh your screens (mobile or desktop) whilst in the virtual queues, Ticketmaster will kick you out and put you back to the front of the queue, so remember to be patient.
  • Have multiple devices on the go, your phone, your laptop, friends phones, family's laptops, the more windows you have open, the better your chances of getting something, just don't refresh.
  • Be flexible on the dates you want, and the stadium you are choosing. If queue numbers are massive for one date, maybe try another on the go at the same, the more options you give yourself, the more chances you have.
  • Keep an eye on Beyonce's website and social media accounts, she could announce more UK dates if shows sell-out today. Often artists will announce extra shows during the general sale of their existing shows, and tickets become available to buy immeditately for those shows.
  • Only buy your tickets from OFFICIAL ticketing sites today like Ticketmaster and Live Nation , you risk buying either counterfeit tickets elsewhere, which won't get you into the venue on the night, or over-priced tickets for those looking to make a quick profit.

Beyoncé's Name to Be Included in French Dictionary: 'American Singer of R&B and Pop'

The singer is one of 40 people - including LeBron James and Cate Blanchett — who will be added to the new edition of the Larousse dictionary

Beyoncé 's name is about to go down in French history.

According to U.K. newspaper The Times and French outlet France 24 , the “Break My Soul” singer, 42, is one of 40 people to be included in the Larousse dictionary, with her name highlighting her Louisiana Creole heritage.

Listed as a proper noun in the dictionary, Beyoncé’s entry reads, “American singer of R&B and pop.”

According to The Times , she is one of the several French and foreign personalities selected for 2024’s update of encyclopedic dictionary Petit Larousse Illustré, which was first published in 1905.

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

The names are drawn up by a jury, who drafts up a yearly list of 150 words and individuals who are known amongst French-speaking communities.

More than 150 new words have been added this year, according to Sky News .

Carine Girac-Marinier, head of dictionaries and encyclopedias at Larousse, told French news magazine Le Point that many of the words "reflect concerns, developments or strong movements this year."

Per The Times, Girac-Marinier also said that it was important the people matched the “values of the Petit Larousse — excellence and promotion of French culture.”

Meanwhile, other names who are included in the new update include actress Cate Blanchett , NBA player LeBron James and Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan .

Beyoncé’s name was originally spelled “Beyincé” as it was the surname of her maternal grandparents. However, her mother Tina Knowles’ maiden name was spelt as “Beyoncé” after the hospital misspelled it on her birth certificate and refused to change it.

"I think me and my brother Skip were the only two that had B-E-Y-O-N-C-E," Knowles said in an episode of In My Head with Heather Thomson in 2020.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

"It's interesting — and it shows you the times — because we asked my mother when I was grown. I was like, 'Why is my brother’s name spelled B-E-Y-I-N-C-E? You know, it’s all these different spellings,' " she added. "And my mom's reply to me was like, 'That's what they put on your birth certificate.'"

"So I said, 'Well, why didn't you argue and make them correct it?' " Knowles continued. "And she said, 'I did one time. The first time, and I was told be happy that you're getting a birth certificate because, at one time, Black people didn't get birth certificates."

As Sky News reports, more than 150 new words have been added to the 120th version of the book this year.

The ‘Cowboy Carter’ star will appear as an entry alongside celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, French actor Omar Sy, Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan, and French rugby captain Antoine Dupont.

Many additions “reflect concerns, developments or strong movements” in 2024, Carine Girac-Marinier, director of the dictionaries and encyclopaedias department, told French news magazine Le Point .

As Marie Claire notes, “Beyoncé” will be accompanied by the definition “American singer of R&B and pop”.

Many fans have responded to the nod on social media, with one writing : “That’s when you know you’ve succeeded.” Another person said : “Beyoncé’s influence knows no bounds!” A third user commented : “Star power.”

“Creole French queen,”  wrote someone else, referring to Beyoncé’s Louisiana Creole ancestry (via Nola ).

In 2004, the term “bootylicious” – featured in Destiny’s Child 2001 hit single of the same name – was added to the Oxford English Dictionary with the definition “(of a woman) sexually attractive”.

Other new additions to the Le Petit Larousse include the English phrases “fast fashion” and “skate park”, as well as “platisme” (the French term for the Flat Earth theory).

In February,  Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black woman to reach Number One on the US country chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’. She later became the first Black female artist to score a Number One country album with ‘Cowboy Carter’.

The singer also achieved a UK chart double – the first act to do so with a country album and country single (via Official Charts ).

In  a glowing five-star review of ‘Cowboy Carter’ ,  NME wrote: “It’s an undeniable thrill to see [Beyoncé] swing so big on a project that dares her to be so intimate and vocal-focused.”

Last month saw Beyoncé share a new “pony up” remix of ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ .

Beyonce poised to perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards after skipping last year

Beyoncé will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards to mark its 40th anniversary this September.

It’s a huge moment for the show, which hasn’t seen the Cowboy Carter star grace its stage since 2016 when she cleaned up with eight wins and performed a 16-minute Lemonade medley. Even having earned VMA nominations in 2018, 2020, and 2021, the 42-year-old still didn’t grace the show with an appearance and skipped last year’s to tour with Renaissance.

“Beyoncé is a huge get for the VMAs and will be a huge ratings draw," a source said, “She is currently figuring out how her appearance will look and whether it will be one song or a tribute similar to her 2014 closing performance when she received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award."

The source continued: “As it’s such a big year, the ceremony wants to reclaim some of its prestige so reality TV stars from some of the more lowbrow shows and Tik Tok will have had a harder time gaining entry while artists like Dua Lipa, Muni Long and Billie Eilish will be given priority treatment."

“They are also hoping to book Taylor Swift ," they added.

It’s the first show that has been confirmed for Beyoncé since her latest record-breaking release, which saw her become the first black artist to top UK chart with a country album. Incredibly, Queen of Country Dolly Parton, with a career spanning nearly 50 years, has never achieved a number one single or album in the UK - but Beyonce has now scored both at the same time, with Cowboy Carter and lead single Texas Hold ‘Em.

The VMAs will return to New York on September 10 - just four days shy of the 40th anniversary of the inaugural ceremony held at Radio City Music Hall, where Madonna stole the show with a performance of Like a Virgin. Taylor was the big winner at last year’s VMAs, picking up the top award of the night Video of the Year for Anti-Hero and is expected to go head-to-head with Beyoncé.

The VMAs will air in more than 150 countries and territories, reaching a reported 319 million households.
