This 360 panorama project shows visitors the Brussels skyline from a whole different angle. Most rooftops, towers and viewpoints in the city are not public accessible. With this virtual tour, we want to give everybody a chance to enjoy these magnificent views on the capital of Europe!

Herman at work at the roof of the Belgacom Twin Towers

All photos and video's from BRUSSELS FROM ABOVE are made by the belgian photographer Herman Desmet . Herman works as a 360VR photographer and developer for Poppr , the leading 360° agency in Belgium. In his free time, Herman searches the most spectacular rooftops in Brussels and makes panoramic images on top of them. Afterwards, these images are connected with 'hotspots' to the other rooftop-panorama's in the tour. In this virtual tour, you can drag in each image full 360 around to get an exceptional view on Brussels, from above. In 2018 we won the VisitBrussels awards with this project!

Virtual 360° tour of the Royal Palace in Brussels

Usually you can visit the Royal Palace of Brussels . Not so this year. But the offices of HM Philippe, King of the Belgians have produced a virtual 360° tour of the palace.

The Royal Palace is located on the Place des Palais / Paleizenplein ( Palaces Square ) in the heart of Brussels . It is the King’s administrative residence and main workplace.

Start the virtual tour here .

Brussels v Laeken

The home of the King and his family is the Royal Palace of Laeken . Brussels is the office and de iure residence, as is the St. James’ Palace in London for Queen Elizabeth II . Although she mostly lives and works in Buckingham Palace .

The Palace is where His Majesty the King exercises his prerogatives as Head of State, grants audiences and deals with affairs of state. Apart from the offices of the King and the Queen, the Royal Palace houses the services of the Grand Marshal of the Court, the King’s Head of Cabinet, the Head of the King’s Military Household and the Intendant of the King’s Civil List. The Palace also includes the State Rooms where large receptions are held, as well as the apartments provided for foreign Heads of State during official visits.

When he was an unmarried prince, Philippe used to live in Brussels.

A virtual tour of Brussels

Perhaps you dream of visiting Brussels, but the pandemic prevents you from physically travelling there. Don't worry, sit comfortably in front of your screen and the "Brussels By Foot" team will take you on a journey.

brussels virtual tour

The company wanted to actively respond to the various lockdowns currently overwhelming us and limiting our holiday and travel opportunities. So to overcome these difficulties while maintaining their vocation to help people discover our capital, their guides have developed virtual tours of Brussels.

How it works: Your guide actually walks through the streets of the city, equipped with a camera and a microphone. You can follow them from your computer screen, comfortably seated in your armchair. Zoom meetings allow you to follow the tour as if you were there, asking questions and making comments.

Themed walks are also now available. The first allows you to (re)discover the popular city centre district of the Marolles through street protests against oppression, in times of crisis, war, health hazards and impoverishment. The second theme will lead you in the footsteps of the great gangsters and criminal cases that influenced Brussels in the 19th and 20th centuries.

For practical information and registration, please visit the website :

brussels virtual tour

With all these lockdowns , at Brussels By Foot, we were getting bored. Weren’t you? Since we could no longer find you “in real life” in the streets, we lauched our virtual guided tours . Today we can take over the real tours, but we continue to offer virtual tours in immersion in the streets of Brussels.

The principle and the philosophy do not change: authentic, unusual tours , written and guided by passionate Brussels people. The routes are slightly shortened (+/- 1 hour) but the pleasure remains, we guarantee, just as intense.

How does it work in practice? The guide, equipped with a camera and a microphone , walks through the streets and does the tour live, almost normally. You are comfortably seated behind your computer and you follow the tour as if you were there via a Zoom meeting . You can talk, ask questions and give your comments…

Guided tours that showcase Brussels’ heritage

09 March 2022

Is it your first time in Brussels? Or are you looking to get to know the city’s heritage better? The best way to discover or rediscover Brussels’ classics and must-sees is with a guided tour. Original tours, packed with juicy anecdotes, take you past places that are key parts of our capital's history.

Gothic grandeur

Feast your eyes on the grandeur of Brussels' Grand-Place , with its glorious town hall and countless guild houses. The colourful umbrellas of the passionate guides will lead you through the glorious history of this stunning world heritage site . There's a guided tour almost every hour. It's ideal for last-minute decisions... (psst: don't forget a little tip!).

With its richly decorated facade and impressive tower, the City of Brussels' Town Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. But did you know that the inside is also worth a visit? On Wednesdays and Sundays , an experienced guide will escort you through the many halls and galleries , interspersed with anecdotes from Brussels city politics.

Can't get enough of cross-ribbed vaults and Brabant Gothic architecture ? Then walk up the Treurberg hill for a guided tour of the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula . The free tour of the cathedral is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the history of this remarkable religious building. If you're not afraid of heights and a bit of exercise you can even take a tour of the cathedral's towers . Be advised that a tour of the towers must be requested at least two weeks in advance and costs €10 per person.

Brussels' Palace of Justice is a real eye-catching jewel of Brussels' heritage. It's the largest courthouse in the world . This gigantic building, designed by Joseph Poelaert, has a usable area of 40,000m². The dome is 100 metres high and there are more than 250 rooms, including 27 impressive courtrooms! That's bigger than Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. A visit is, therefore, a must.

By tram, bus or horse-drawn carriage

Sightseeing in Brussels with a guide on board? The electric hop-on-hop-off Tootbus takes you from the Atomium to the Grand-Place and from the Mont des Arts to the European Quarter. Brussels City Tours also offer tour bus rides .

Prefer a mode of transport with a touch of historical flair? Hop on board the Brussels Tourist Tramway for a four-hour vintage tram ride that takes you past Brussels heritage sites. Or let yourself be driven around the capital a horse-drawn carriage . The carriages are available every day of the week on rue Charles Buls .

Guided tours through a patchwork of architectural styles

From Art Nouveau, Art Deco, typically Brussels eclecticism and modernism to contemporary architecture... Brussels’ urban landscape is a patchwork of architectural styles. Stroll along the squares and stately avenues with a guide, or take a peek behind the magnificent facades on an exclusive guided tour of private residences with explore.brussels .

Die-hard architecture fans are in for a treat with no less than three architecture festivals : the  Brussels Art Nouveau & Art Deco (BANAD) Festival , the  Brussels Biennale of Eclectic Architecture (BBEA) and the  Brussels Biennalle - Neoclassic .
