Cairns, with a population of approximately 160,000 is Australia's 14th largest city and the 5th largest in Queensland. While now predominately a "tourist town" it is classified as a regional centre and supplies many outlying districts. Farming, especially the sugar industry,  and mining are still important industries with a large percentage of the population employed in these fields.

Cairns is surrounded by natural beauty and in fact Cairns, Australia is the only place in the world to have 2 world heritage listed areas side by side. These are of course the  Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest . Any area with one of these destinations on it's doorstep would be well worth visiting but to have 2 it makes Cairns truly special.

Marty and Heidi have lived in the Cairns area for over ten years and both have travelled extensively both around the world and more importantly for you, both know the east coast of Australia like the back of their hands. Both are avid scuba divers, spending any time possible underwater on the Great Barrier Reef. Both also love the outdoors, exploring the area's rainforests and bushland by 4WD, foot and kayak/canoe. The skipper and crew worked seamlessly through some rough weather to ensure we had the best opportunity to view the reef with comfortable, clean, and safe accomodations onboard. Exceeded all of my expectations, particularly the chance to discover dive with Christine and the delicious food prepared by Zoe and Joost, who also kept us entertained with his fantastic music selection between dives. Good vibes from everyone working with us really made the trip special!

Eye On The Reef - Marine Conservation Program on the Great Barrier Reef

The trip was very good. As I already had my PADI Open Water, I had two free days at the beginning. The highlight of the trip for me was the liveaboard. Two nights out on the reef with 4 dives a day was great. As the boat moved ~2 times a day, the dive sites changed. The marine conservation section was interesting. It was a new experience completing the surveys. The only down side I thought was that we had to take a ~2hr boat ride every day and the dive sites were limited by what other passengers were doing. However, the diving was still good.

This trip was easily the best experience of my life. I did the 28 Oz East Coast tour and would recommend it to anyone. I made friends for life and thoroughly enjoyed every single day of the tour. Our tour guides, Val and Eilish, were absolutely incredible and continuously went out of their way to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable. Their knowledge on the places we visited was hugely valued too. Anyone who has either Val or Eilish in future tours will be very lucky and will have an incredible time.

The trip was great. However, I didn’t like the hostel in Airlie Beach. It was the worst one in this trip. Overall was great

Really good trip with value for your money. We saw a lot of Australia in such a short time, given how massive Australia really is. Our guide, Tamar, was an absolute sweetheart, knowledgeable, well travelled and very professional. This tour has the right balance of group activities and independent activities if you choose to do so. My only complaint is that some of the accommodations were subpar, which was disappointing given the high cost of this trip.
