About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally,  you will need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey and current visas to enter Vietnam and Cambodia. You will not need a visa to enter Thailand for the short duration of this tour. Please Note: Your passport should contain at least three blank visa pages.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally, please contact a consulate or embassy of Vietnam, of Cambodia and Thailand to determine if entry visas are required.

Tauck has collaborated with VisaCentral in the US to assist our guests with processing and issuing their travel documents. If a guest opts to work with VisaCentral, their services are available online at www.visacentral.com/tauck . To speak directly with VisaCentral Customer Service, call 844-860-7199 (toll-free in the US) or email [email protected] .  All US citizens require a valid passport to enter Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, and that passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. (Please note that although adult passports are valid for a full ten years, children's passports require renewal every five years.)  Your passport must also contain a minimum of at least 3 blank visa pages. Please be advised that that extra visa pages are no longer available for passports. If you need additional pages in order to comply, you must renew your passport even if your current passport has not expired.  If you are a United States citizen and do not have a valid passport, please contact the closest US passport agency or consult the US State Department web site for detailed information on how to obtain or renew your passport at: www.travel.state.gov .  A visa is not required for Thailand.  Visas are necessary for both Vietnam and Cambodia. Please note that these visas must be processed within 90 days of your arrival.  All fees will be listed on visa paperwork.  The visa fee, as well as any applicable consular fees and shipping fees, are not included in the tour cost. The visa application will include the amount of the visa fee, which varies by destination.  Additionally, you may elect to obtain a Vietnam e-visa online at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en and/or a Cambodian e-visa on line at www.evisa.gov.kh  Non-US citizens should contact the embassies or consulates of Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand to determine what documentation is required.  We advise bringing a photocopy of your passport as well as 2 extra passport photos in case your passport is lost during the tour. Be sure to check the expiration of your passport. New passports and visas may take several weeks to obtain.  IMPORTANT NOTE: Failure to obtain ALL necessary documentation prior to your tour may result in being denied entry into a country, or delays in entry until proper documentation can be obtained. In consideration of the larger group (and to maintain our planned itinerary), travelers who have failed to obtain the necessary documentation in advance may need to remain at the airport, and could thus be responsible for arranging (and paying for) their own transportation to join the group. Tauck will not be responsible for obtaining any missing documentation, nor will Tauck be responsible for any expenses incurred, missed tour components or other losses resulting from the failure to obtain proper travel documents in advance.  Regardless of which visa service company is used, the application will require a summary of your Tauck itinerary, which we will be happy to provide. Please email [email protected].   Please note: Because a visa is an official document, Tauck cannot apply for a visa on your behalf, and we are very limited regarding the assistance we're able to provide. If you require help, we recommend working with a reputable visa service company as they can provide the highest level of assistance.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

Note: For activities marked with an asterisk (*) in day-by-day descriptions, participation is at your own risk; a signed liability waiver will be required.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage – General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and only those items you need handy during the day such as purses, make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or in the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour. If you have a medical condition which might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify Tauck as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Some of the countries visited on this itinerary may require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against certain diseases in order to enter the country.  These requirements are subject to frequent change as outbreaks occur and subside in different areas, and it is therefore crucial that you obtain the very latest information on entry requirements as you prepare for your journey.

For the most current information, please consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by clicking  here  and the World Health Organization (WHO) by clicking  here . You may also wish to visit the web sites for the embassies of the countries you will be visiting.  Besides providing details on vaccination requirements, these sites can also provide information on vaccinations that may be recommended (but aren't required) and other potential health issues for which no vaccines are available.

Any decisions relating to your health, of course, should not be based solely on information provided by a web site.  It is critically important that you consult with your personal physician prior to your journey to obtain any required vaccinations and to review any optional recommendations offered by the CDC or other sources.

Please be sure to discuss your journey with your physician at least four to six weeks in advance of your departure, as certain vaccinations take time to become fully effective.  Also, be certain to ask your physician for proof of any vaccinations you receive, and to pack this proof along with your other travel documents in your carry-on luggage (not in your checked luggage).

Researching and complying with vaccination entry requirements for the countries visited on this itinerary is the responsibility of the traveler and not Tauck. Tauck is therefore not responsible for any expenses incurred or disruptions to travel caused by improper or incomplete vaccinations, or by the failure to provide proof of required vaccinations.

If you do not obtain the necessary vaccinations and proper documentation, you may be denied entry into one or more countries, or temporarily quarantined until the necessary vaccinations are administered, or until proper documentation is provided.

This Southeast Asia tour is very active and includes 6 on-tour flights. You should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances over uneven terrain that may, at times, be rocky and muddy, as some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. Southeast Asia is home to innumerable historic buildings and sites, some dating from antiquity. Therefore, roads, walkways and architecture will present difficulties for some guests with physical disabilities. For the most part, however, the amount of walking you do is at your discretion. Please Note: There are numerous steps on this itinerary. In addition to walking, various other modes of transportation used to highlight the different aspects of Southeast Asian culture and geography for this tour could include airplane, boat, sampan, cyclo and tuk-tuk (auto rickshaw).

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN AND MOBILITY ISSUES:  This Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate oxygen tanks, wheelchairs or motorized scooters.  Oxygen tanks are strictly prohibited in many foreign countries on regional flights aboard small aircraft, such as those intra-tour flights featured on this Tauck journey.  Likewise, the very limited cargo capacity on such flights prohibits the transport of wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Guests should also bear in mind that the infrastructure in many foreign countries, particularly in developing countries, often presents severe and even insurmountable challenges for those with walking difficulties or other mobility issues.  The responsibility of the Tauck Director is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest.  Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

The weather in Southeast Asia is generally hot and humid year round with little fluctuation. Rainfall amounts are much heavier from May through October than they are from November though April.

What To Pack

The climate in Southeast Asia is hot and humid year round. We suggest that you pack lightweight, casual clothing. While it is quite rainy and hot for most of the year, our departure dates are always scheduled when weather will be optimal.

Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is flexible. Casual, cotton clothing is recommended. Sturdy yet comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in are essential. For dining in the evening, and for the welcome reception and the farewell dinner, you may wish to dress up a bit, but certainly be comfortable. Jackets for men are not required.

Valet laundry service is available throughout the entire tour. Hairdryers and irons and ironing boards are either located in your hotel room or are immediately available upon request.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Toiletries, sundries, and over-the-counter and prescription medications may either be difficult to find or not available in Southeast Asia.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your journey across Southeast Asia:

  • Casual, cotton clothing
  • An optional sports jacket for men
  • Casual yet elegant evening wear for ladies
  • Light sweater
  • Light waterproof jacket
  • Sturdy yet comfortable, walking shoes that have already been broken-in

Day 2 : Hanoi – Fullday City Tour & Local food discovery

Today with the help of your private guide and driver, you will get to explore the city’s top attractions, sample Hanoi’s authentic local dishes away from the tourist trails, hunkering down with the locals on the street at a variety of atmospheric food stalls.

Morning Begin with a tour of  Ho Chi Minh Memorial Comple x where the Vietnamese people honour the country’s ‘Great Father’. Here you’ll visit  Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum  which contains the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh and his House on Stilts  to observe how he lived and how his life unfolded to become one of modern history’s greatest names. Nearside his house is the miniature 11th-century One Pillar Pagoda , a Buddhist temple of historical and cultural significance.

From HCM Complex, you will take a leisurely walk through the small laneways toward Huu Tiep Lake . Explore the grounds of a 400-year-old temple , followed by a stroll through traditional local market streets to see the B52 crash site at the lake. This US bomber was shot down during the 1972 bombing raids of Ha Noi, a poignant reminder of Vietnam’s recent history.

Today you will have Pho for lunch , a Vietnamese Noodle shop. Some of the local people call this world-famous Noodle soup “Mac-Noodles” since it is as popular here as MacDonalds is in other parts of the world!  At the restaurant, your tour guide will explain the routine during Vietnamese meal times, and also tell you which special ingredients are needed for you.

Afternoon After lunch, continue to visit the millennia-old Temple of Literature and explore its role in the country’s past, as both a university and a Confucius temple. Next is  Hoa Lo (so-called Hanoi Hilton ), a prison used by the French colonists in Vietnam for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. Prisoners of War.

Your guide will talk you through the ingredients and the different herbs of each dish, while you are crouching on tiny plastic stools in a back alley. Sample delicious dishes like Nom Du Du  (green papaya salad),  Banh Mi Pa Te  (a sandwich that reflects Vietnam’s culinary heritage), and the famous Hanoi dish Bun Cha (grilled pork and noodles). Day 11 : Siem Reap – Full-Day Temple Exploration

Today with the help of your private and driver you will embark on a full day’s sightseeing around the Angkor Archaeological Park  which stretches over some 400 square kilometres, including forested area. The park contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the great Khmer Empire of the 9th to the 15th centuries.

Morning Begin your day with an early visit (avoid the crowds) to the 13th-century Ta Prohm , a hauntingly beautiful temple where the roots of giant banyans and strangler figs enfold much of the stonework, creating scenes little changed since the French Adventurer Henri Mouhot re-discovered Angkor in the 1850s.  This temple makes the ‘Tomb Raider Temple’ one of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples.

Continue your explorations by visiting the ancient capital city of Angkor Thom , the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire that once ruled much of Southeast Asia. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high wall drawing a perfect square. You will enter the city from the ancient South Gate , an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path, a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snak e .

Return to the hotel for a relaxing break during the midday heat.

Afternoon Your exploits will continue as you visit Banteay Kdei (“Citadel of Chambers”), a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th Century, and Sra Srang , also known as the “pool of ablutions”. From here, move onto the Bayon Temple in the exact centre of the ancient city. This 12th-century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well-known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire.

You will also visit the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs. Stroll through the grounds of the former Royal Palace to discover some small hidden temples that are rarely visited.

Finish your day sightseeing with a leisurely  gondola boat ride through the moats of Angkor Thom . In the tranquil solitude, visualize the royal city when it ruled over two million people nearly 800 years ago. As the sun approaches the horizon, make your way to Prasat Chrung , a small temple built in the style of Bayon, and climb an iron staircase to a quiet spot for excellent sunset views over the ruins.

Evening Your tour guide and driver will transfer you to a local village on the outskirt of Siem Reap where you will enjoy a home-hosted dinner . Experience the simple Khmer village life, relaxing in a swaying hammock, or helping the local family to prepare dinner, picking fresh produce from their organic gardens. In this amiable and informal setting, feel free to ask the village elders about Khmer traditions and daily life in this community.

Day 12 : Siem Reap – Further Temple Exploration

Today, you’ll continue to experience the temple relics but in a way that will really let you feel like you’ve escaped the 20th century and traveled a thousand years back to a time when life was simple and nature was surreal.

Morning As first light dawns, you will be at the most important religious monument in the country, admiring the extraordinary Temple of Angkor Wat across a reflecting moat.

When the sun rises behind the triple towers, the crowds will thin out as most people return to bed or a hotel breakfast. We will make use of the cool temperatures and soft morning light to explore Angkor Wat in a more peaceful atmosphere.

After enjoying your takeaway breakfast (prepared by your guide) near the temple, you will start exploring one of the Seven Wonders of the World : Angkor Wat . At this point, you most probably have gotten glimpses of the towers over treetops and the gates in front of passing. But now you’ll finally get to satiate that curiosity that’s grown in the last few days.

Enter Angkor Wat and learn about the stories and amazing architecture that has stunned archeologists leaving more questions than answers. Angkor Wat possesses some of the most intricate and longest stone carvings in the world. This complex is four times the size of the Vatican City making it the largest religious site in the world. Spend the rest of the morning adventuring through the many passages, levels, and exploring chambers that once housed one of many treasures of the ancient world. It will be an experience you will never forget.

Leaving Angkor Wat behind you will travel to the countryside to see the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srey . The so-called “Citadel of the Women” remains the best-preserved temple in Cambodia. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art as this small temple is noted for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. Banteay Srey is unique in that it is constructed of pink sandstone, which is seen nowhere else in Angkor.

Continue your day by driving up north to Kbal Spean , one of the earliest Hindu pilgrimage sites in Cambodia. Upon arrival, you will take a short trek up the hill through dense jungle with excellent views over the plains and the Kulen hills . At the top, be surprised about the “River of 1000 Lingas” with some remarkable stone carvings of Hindu gods, animals, and other symbols in the river bed.

Afternoon After enjoying a picnic lunch you can take a refreshing bath in the nearby waterfall, which is extremely popular with the local families.

On the way back to Siem Reap, make a quick stop at the Land Mine Museum which promotes mine awareness. Mr. Aki Ra, the museum founder, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime and is working today as a de-miner. The museum serves also as a rescue centre for a number of land mine amputee children that Aki Ra has brought off Phnom Penh’s streets or from impoverished rural communities.

Evening Your guide and driver will take you out to watch Phare – the Cambodian Circus , an amazing blend of traditional and modern theater, music, dance, acrobatic, juggling and contortion beautifully choreographed and performed in a story about Cambodian lives and society.

Day 14 : Bangkok – Full-day City tour & Evening Street Food Tour

Morning After breakfast, meet your private guide and driver again and head to the historic center of Bangkok and start your day at Wat Suthat . A few visitors come to this temple early, so much the better to enjoy the monks’ melodic chanting ritual. It’s an incredible sensory experience. Then, a short walk to Wat Pho (famous for its 141-foot-long reclining Buddha) will take you through small alleys with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs, and lively fruit and flower markets.

Make a stop at Lak Muang , Bangkok’s city pillar, well worth a five-minute detour before continuing onto the site the Thai people consider the most sacred in the Kingdom: The Royal Grand Palace and the E merald Buddha . Enjoy a delightful Thai lunch and take in the scenic views at the Deck by Arun Residence restaurant and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River.

Afternoon Take the public ferry to visit the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) , which you will probably recognize from its famous silhouette. The local story goes that the shards of pottery decorating its 79 m tall spire came from a nearby shipwreck 100 years ago.

Amazing and worth it

My family and I stumbled across Asia Pioneer and we had the wonderful Chloe as our travel agent for our Vietnam/Thailand trip. Everything was organised for us, from the itinerary, to accommodation, tour guides, drivers, flights and activities. It costed quite a bit, however well worth it if you don’t want to worry about having to organise anything.

I highly recommend!!! My only feedback would be that the payment system with Asia Pioneer is not straight forward and they invoice and quote in US $ so if you are from other countries tries the conversion rates and credit card fees etc become quite confusing and it ends up costing more than expected.

They request a 30% deposit upfront which is fine, but then you pay another amount a month th before the trip, and then the final amount in cash on the day of arriving in Vietnam. I recommend you get the cash out in your country before arriving to Vietnam as the ATM’s only allow you to get out a very small amount (3 million vietnamese dong) at a time.

However other than that, highly recommend !!

Amazingly amazing.

Customer Service: The service was amazing from start to finish. APT was in constant communication with me. They were patient, flexible, and accommodating. They understood what I wanted to see and things I wasn’t interested in. They were never pushy. The tour guides they provided were also amazing. Prompt, funny, super informative, and advocated for us every step of the way…sometimes changing our itineraries to better fit our needs. The tour guides also understood that by day 9 we were exhausted and needed some R&R.

Price: The price was very affordable. We were 3 teachers on winter break so you know we’re not made out of $$$. The hotels they provided were affordable and lovely, very close to all the spots.

Vietnam: What can I say? I want to live there!!!

Overall Experience: 5 stars! I will be booking with APT for our next trip. 10 days was not enough!

A holiday of a lifetime ,thanks to Chloe and Asia Pioneer !

We have just returned from a holiday of a lifetime in SE Asia. The main part of our trip was a 34 day tour with Asia Pioneer. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. My personal point of contact throughout the long months of planning was the wonderful Chloe . In consultation with her, a tailor made tour for the 4 of us was planned ,and it really could not have gone more perfectly. From the day we landed in Laos,to be met by our tour guide and driver at the airport,to the afternoon when were taken by our Cambodian guide and driver to the airport at the end of our adventure,we were looked after with such kindness and care. The stress of travelling around in such a different part of the world was taken away ,leaving us to enjoy so many fantastic experiences. The tour guides, drivers, hotels and activities organised by Chloe throughout our time in Laos,Vietnam, and Cambodia all surpassed expectations. Every day provided such wonderful memories. If you are looking for a personalised private tour in this fascinating part of the world you should look no further than Asia Pioneer.

To begin our second day in Hanoi, we'll take a cyclo (rickshaw) tour through French Quarter, the best way to explore this historic and lively part of the city. Next, we'll visit the Hoa Lo Prison and the Literature Temple, two places which are essential to the long story of Vietnamese culture for very different reasons. Then, we'll see Dong Xuan market, where we'll feel the vibrant buzz of the locals going about their business.

After lunch, the final stop of the day is Hanoi Old Quarter, famous for its intricate street plans and quality crafts sold by locals - we'll have the whole afternoon to explore and shop the Old Quarter to our heart's content, and stroll back to the hotel when you've had your fill.

As this epic journey through Southeast Asia is finally coming to an end, this evening will be a special dinner to commemorate the experiences that we have all shared.

Generally speaking, November through January is the cool season throughout Southeast Asia. During this period, weather is generallly pleasant and comfortable. Daytime highs will range from the upper 70s (Hanoi) to the mid 80s (Siem Reap), with highs in Chiang Mai and Luang Prabang in the low 80s on most days.

In northern Thailand and Laos, cool air can occasionally come down from the north at this time of year and deliver a refreshing nightime lows (as cold as the low 50s), but daytime highs will always reach the 80s. While rainfall can occur any time of year, it is generally rare during this time of year. The warmest months of the year are March through June.

Please come prepared to walk in rain or warm sunshine, and be sure to pack a range of lightweight, breathable layers of clothing. We will do daily activities as planned, unless weather conditions make it dangerous to do so. You may obtain more detailed weather information at www. weatherbase.com.

The best weather in this part of Southeast Asia is generally mid-October thourgh mid-February, when temperatures cool down nicely at night and rainfall is rare.

The peak travel period is from December 15th through January 6th, when hotels are often at capacity and prices spike.

June and July can also be a nice time to visit the region, and those who do will find fewer tourists and decent (if not more variable) weather.

Whether you're sampling snacks at a street-side stall or a high-end restaurant, the cuisine throughout will showcase incredible variety. Regardless of whether you are an adventurous foodie or a complete amateur with Southeast Asian cuisine, this trip will not disappoint.

As you dine across the region, keep in mind that chili peppers weren't found in the region until Portuguese traders introduced them in the 1600s!

Thai cuisine is renowned worldwide for its unique blend of flavors and textures. It's a feast for the senses, with vibrant colors, aromatic scents, and diverse tastes ranging from sweet and sour to spicy and savory. Thailand is home to a plethora of herbs, fruits, and vegetables, and Thai cuisine showcases this diversity in impressive fashion.

Popular dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, and mango with sticky rice are just the beginning, as delicious regional dishes, exotic fruits, and street food abound. From curries and stir-fries to soups and salads, every dish is a celebration of Thailand's rich culinary heritage.

Lao cuisine, is a rich tapestry of flavors and textures. It's often spicy, sour, and packed with fresh herbs. A staple food in Laos is sticky rice, or 'Khao Niew', which is served in small baskets and eaten by hand, often accompanied by a variety of dips, sauces, and side dishes.

Two of the most popular dishes in the country are laab (a type of salad made from minced meat such as pork, chicken, fish, or duck) and Tam Mak Hoong, a spicy salad made from shredded green papaya, tomatoes, chili, lime, fish sauce. It's similar to Thai Som Tam, except that it often includes fermented crab and fish sauce for extra flavor. Fear not - our guides know how to order a modified version for those not quite up for the real deal. Cambodian cuisine, also known as Khmer cuisine, is characterized by its simplicity, freshness, and the use of unique local ingredients. A signature dish that every visitor must try is Fish Amok, a curried fish that is steamed in banana leaves, Other popular items include Bai Sach Chrouk, (pork and rice) and Kuy Teav, a savory noodle soup. Cambodia's most iconic condiment is Prahok, a strong, fermented fish paste that is widely used in Khmer kitchens. It adds a distinct flavor to many Cambodian dishes.

The cuisine of Hanoi and Northern Vietnam offers a unique gastronomic experience. Pho is perhaps the most iconic dish from Hanoi, with broth simmered for hours with spices like star anise and cinnamon, then served with rice noodles, meat, fresh herbs, and lime. Bun Cha, consisting of grilled pork meatballs served with a tangy fish sauce, rice noodles, and a basket of fresh herbs, is another must-try dish. Banh Mi, a French-Vietnamese fusion sandwich, is a popular street food in Hanoi, made with a crusty baguette filled with various meats, pickled vegetables, and herbs. Being so close to the ocean, fresh seafood abounds as well, with fresh oysters, squid, and saltwater fish widely available.

Incredible Indochina in 15 Days - Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia

I must admit that I was worried a bit when we planned our 15-day vacation across 3 countries (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) from an internet travel agency halfway around the world. Luckily it turned out to be fantastic. Everything went smoothly, even traveling between the countries. Vietnam Tour Fun has explained to us how to arrange the visas upon arrival and we had all the necessary documents handy upon arrival. The places we visited were terrific. BRAVO to Vietnam Tour Fun for making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Keep up the great service!

Essence of Indochina In 16 Days - Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos

5 stars for everything! What an experience of a lifetime! I have just returned from doing the 16 day tour through the Vietnam Tour Fun company, and the whole trip exceeded my expectations. Everything was so meticulously and incredibly planned, all the hotels were amazing and were in great locations, all the tours and sight-seeing activities were wonderful, and the support from the travel company before and throughout the entire trip was exceptional. Mr. Long was my tour operator and he was ALWAYS available through WhatsApp. I travelled as a solo female and I never felt scared or alone on this trip since the company was always there as a support. I felt extremely safe, looked after and taken care of on this whole trip. I am amazed at how well planned the entire itinerary was. All the activities were on time - I was always picked up from the hotel lobby on time for day tours and airport transfers. Mr. Long always knew where I was and made sure to check-in with me to ensure everyone was going well. There were absolutely no issues or problems on this entire trip. And ofcourse, the trip itself was immaculate. All the counties are absolutely stunning and worth seeing. Extremely vibrant, rich and full of culture and amazing people. I would recommend everyone to take this trip. It is more than worth it! I absolutely loved every part of it and I can’t praise it enough. Thank you to everyone involved in making this into such an amazing experience for me. Thank you.

Vietnam has long been one of the cheapest destinations in the world for budget travelers. Despite being home to so many incredible spots like the dramatic Ha Long Bay and Ho Chi Minh City, this Asian country promises to be easy on tourist pockets.

While it really depends on individual spending habits, budget travelers can enjoy a fun-filled day in Vietnam from $40 to $50 .

  • Cheapest times to visit Vietnam: September to November, April to June

Indonesia is one of the cheapest Asian countries to visit on vacation, and there are even plenty of free things to do, so travelers will have a lot of opportunities to save money while having amazing adventures. Also, many attractions in Indonesia that require payment only set visitors back a few dollars.

Of course, there are expensive attractions in this country, but visiting them and spiking the budget is the choice of the tourist involved. Overall, $20 can cover the cost of accommodation, food, transport, water, and other daily requirements that travelers may need in Indonesia in a day.

  • Cheapest time to visit Indonesia: October to April but avoid Christmas and New Year

Philippines

The Philippines is one of the most beautiful yet cheap countries in Asia to visit, and it offers an abundance of things for tourists to see and do - with most being very affordable. Also, the cost of living in the Philippines is low, especially for those armed with foreign currencies like Dollars, Euros, or Pounds. In the Philippines, there are good hotels that cost as little as $10, and some street food can be as cheap as $5.

Transport here is also cheap, as train fares are usually between $1 and $2, although it can be higher depending on the distance. Bus tickets are higher but still cost between $2 and $10. Overall, expect to spend between $40 and $80 a day in the Philippines . Although it can be much less depending on the level of frugality of the traveler involved.

  • Tip to visit the Philippines affordable: Avoid traveling in April and May, and late December and early January

Laos is the most underrated country in Asia , but that’s not because it does not have anything to offer tourists. Nepal is one of the most popular Asian destinations on the list, as it is home to Mount Everest and several other towering mountains that attract about a million people yearly. Besides mountaineering, Nepal also offers other thrilling experiences like cave exploration, wildlife watching, and ziplining.

When it comes to cost, Nepal is another one of the cheapest places in Asia to visit, with daily spending hanging around $30 to $40 . However, that is if Mount Everest or one of its summits is out of the budget because it costs a lot of money (and time) to summit a mountain . While the average cost in Nepal is a little bit higher than the other cheap vacation destinations in Asia, it definitely is affordable compared to other parts of the planet with world-famous attractions.

  • Tip to visit Nepal Affordably: Avoid the high season (October - November)

Mongolia invites visitors to come enjoy some of the most unique adventures in Asia with little money. This country finds itself among the cheapest vacation destinations in Asia to visit, with modest accommodations ranging from $10 - $20.

By Vietnam or Thailand standards, that’s expensive, but when compared to other countries where the same meal or accommodation can cost several dollars more, Mongolia is affordable. Realistically, budget travelers should expect to spend about $30 to $50 a day in this country, which includes accommodation, food, water, and transport.

  • Cheapest time to visit Mongolia: November to March

Cambodia is home to some of the most interesting attractions in the world, one of which is Angkor Wat - a Buddhist temple considered the largest religious structure in the world. But even with so many points of interest spread out across this country, it has remained one of the most affordable countries in the world to visit on vacation.

Whether it's food, transport, or accommodation, most things in Cambodia are fairly cheap, especially for foreigners coming with stronger currencies. Besides the few hundred dollars that one will inevitably spend on flights, visitors only need about $30 to have a good time in Cambodia in a day.

  • Cheapest time to visit Cambodia: April to October

Sri Lanka is one place where travelers will never complain about prices but will rather be shocked by how cheap it can be to travel the country.

With less than $40 a day , travelers can live the dream in Sri Lanka, especially when visiting in the off-season (December to April) when things are so budget-friendly that it almost feels like a steal.
