This tour was fantastic and our tour guide Eddie was the best CEO ever. If every G Adventures tour is like this, I would have no problems recommending them. I did get quite sick with altitude in Peru and Bolivia, so make sure you take precautions just in case. Limit your expectations for buses etc and you will be pleasantly surprised. The people were great, the local food was great (make sure you get recommendations from your CEO so you don't end up sick, we didn't get food poisoning at all once we joined the tour). If you opt to do the death road tour it was a great experience. I went in the bus, which I think was more dangerous then doing it on the bike.

Lima to Buenos Aires: Deserts & Dancing Tour

Lima to Buenos Aires: Deserts & Dancing

A really good mix of hiking, culture, and exploration. I really enjoyed this tour, as it covers so many places that aren't otherwise accessible on your own. Arguable, Inca Trail was the highlight, but there was so much more. Ballesta Islands, Lake Titicaca, the Yungas Road in Bolivia, steak in Salta, etc etc. I enjoyed Bolivia much more than I expected (the museums in Potosi were world class). You have free time to explore the big cities such as La Paz on your own if you choose. Only downside were some inflexibility in restaurant choice. Overall a good trip I'll remember for a long time.

Cultural and Nature Experience in the Andes Tour

Cultural and Nature Experience in the Andes

The tour was well organized by Eurolatino (located in Germany) and its local travel operators. We had asked to add 2 days in Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon region and skip the last day in Santiago de Chile, which was smoothly accomodated by Eurolatino. Although we never received any vouchers for hotels, tours or transfers, all local guides and drivers were always on time at the designated locations (except for a taxi that our local guide had ordered for the transfer from the pier to Copacabana after our return from Sun Island) and were fully briefed about our itinerary and the booked services. The local guides were very knowledgeable and accomodating to our needs. When our inbound flight from New York was delayed and we therefore arrived in Lima in the afternoon instead of the morning, our local guide managed to still show us the highlights of Lima in one hour instead of the half-day tour originally scheduled. Our local guide in Puno was aware that the Peruvian Migration Office in Yunguyo at the Bolivian border was still closed on the day of our visit (in late April 2023) after the protests in January and February of 2023 and had arranged for us to receive our exit stamp at the Migration Office in Puno harbor before transferring to the border. The only inconvenience was that we received the information about the pick-up time for our morning tour in San Pedro de Atacama at 3am on that morning. We had only tentatively booked the tours in San Pedro, as Javier Cordero of Eurolatino had suggested, and confirmed them 3 days before our arrival in San Pedro. Apparently that caused the schedule to be finalized in the last minute only. For anybody interested in a variety of landscapes and unique features I recommend booking the tours in San Pedro from the beginning. We liked all components of our trip. The big cities Lima, La Paz, Santiago de Chile, in some respects similar but in many respects different and distinct. The djungle tours in Puerto Maldonado. The Inca and colonial history in Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. The overland tour to the Altiplano from Cuzco to La Paz. The Salt Flats at Uyuni and the lagoons and mountain deserts all the way to San Pedro de Atacama. With hindsight, the only change I would make is rather than carrying our overnight necessities (you can leave the rest of the baggage in the car) up the hill on Sun Island (a higher ascend than on Machu Picchu) for a (certainly very nice) sunset, I would opt to visit the Floating Islands near Puno and then transfer directly to La Paz. The only reason for not giving a 5 star rating is that after we had paid the full price for the trip Javier Cordero tried to sell us an upgrade for the visit to Puerto Maldonado, indicating that the originally booked accomodation was not available. Only after I reminded him that the German law on packaged travel services requires the seller of the travel package to provide the services as described in the itinerary or substantially similar services, he confirmed that the itinerary would be provided for the price paid. Except for this irritation he provided an excellent service.

Argentina, Atacama & Andes - 20 days

Fast-paced and hitting many of the highlights of South America in a manageable timeframe. Highly recommended. Hotels were decent and individual (no bland chains here!) and the guide was extremely knowledgeable and personalised the tour throughout to things that those in the group were interested in specifically. It was a small group (6) and a perfect match between group activity and then free time to explore places in the way you wanted to. A memorable experience and the landscapes in NW Argentina, Chile and Bolivia are unsurpassed globally in my opinion!

Amazing tour over five countries in a short time. The jungle experience in Muyuna Amazon Lodge Peru with the guide Julio was awesome. Overall this tour was very good organized and coordinated from Aborigen Travel Buenos Aires. I was happy to booked all flights through Aborigen Travel. It was helpful to stay in contact via WhatsApp during the whole trip. Bolivians hospitality is unique, i had such a warm welcome from Alexandra and her family. I can highly recommend this tour to somebody who is in a good condition. The timetable is very demanding. The impressions from all this cities, beautiful and different landscapes, friendly and helpful poeple in Southamerica will be deep in my heart for the rest of my life.

Welcome to the Capital of Chile

The first day of your trip will start in the vibey city of Santiago and from here you will start your tour through Chile.

Upon landing in Santiago, Chile, our local representative will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. ‘Santiago is Chile’ say the Santiaguinos, and a visit to this great city will show you why.

Located in central Chile, backed by the Andes to the east, the city was founded in 1541 in the fertile valley in which it sits. After settling into your hotel, you´ll have the remainder of the day to explore at your own leisure.

Santiago is Chile’s cultural, commercial, industrial, and political center. A cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, and shopping, from tiny boutique and craft fairs to giant shopping malls. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets, and distinct neighborhoods.

You’ll see brand new high rises and supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You’ll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses but ride in peace and comfort on the ultra-modern subway system.

Included: Private transfer from Santiago airport to your hotel with assistance; Accommodation in Santiago. (Meals – None).

Santiago like a local

By day two, you’ll no doubt be infected by the buzzing atmosphere of Santiago. This day is all about experiencing the city like a local.

Explore the exciting city of Santiago like a local with our fun and immersive city tour.

Accompanied by your private guide, you’ll discover hidden hotspots as well as the tourist highlights of Santiago. The trip begins with a subway ride to the Metro Station University of Chile. From here, you’ll wander along the main pedestrian city promenade, visiting iconic buildings such as the Palacio de Gobierno La Moneda and the Santiago Stock Exchange.

Next, you’ll set off towards Plaza de Armas, home to the gorgeous Cathedral, the Natural History Museum, and the Central Post Office. You’ll stop at Vega Central for a traditional Chilean snack before heading into the colorful bohemian district of Bellavista, where you’ll try a classic Santiaguino drink.

From here, you’ll hop in the cable car to the top of San Cristóbal, offering panoramic views over the entire city. Afterward, your guide will give you some local options for lunch (not included) before leaving you to spend the rest of the day in Santiago exploring at your own pace.

Included: Private Walking tour in Santiago with One-way metro ticket, Guide, Accommodation in Santiago. (Meals – Breakfast)

Arrival to the Chilean Desert

It’s time to hit the road again as you make your way to Atacama. Your private transfer will take you to the airport to hop on your flight towards Calama.

Upon landing in Calama airport, your private transfer will take you to San Pedro de Atacama . If arriving from a lower altitude, we would recommend spending your first day in San Pedro de Atacama relaxing and getting used to the altitude before doing anything overly physical.

San Pedro de Atacama is a town set on an arid high plateau in the Andes mountains of northeastern Chile. Its dramatic surrounding landscape incorporates desert, salt flats, volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs. The Valle de la Luna in the nearby Los Flamencos National Reserve is a lunarlike depression with unusual rock formations, a huge sand dune, and pink-streaked mountains.

Included: Transfer from hotel to Santiago airport in private service; Transfer from Calama airport to hotel in Atacama in group service; Accommodation in Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast).

Altiplanic Lagoon & Atacama Salt Lake

You’ll be used to the altitude by now and have an exciting day ahead exploring San Pedro de Atacama.

Travel between flamingo-filled lagoons, horizon bound salt flats, and highland lakes on this full-day group tour from San Pedro de Atacama, whisking you through Chile’s most stunning natural landscapes.

Setting off early, you’ll head for the Salar de Atacama, a gorgeous expanse of grey-white salt dotted with wetlands. This unique and fragile habitat is home to all kinds of birdlife, including large flocks of bright pink flamingos. Here, you’ll follow a nature trail, stopping at the viewpoints to observe the flamingoes and snapping some once-in-a-lifetime shots.

Next, you’ll ascend to the Andean highlands, reaching 4,200 meters above sea-level. Hopping off the bus, you’ll walk along the shores of two deep-blue lakes mirroring volcanoes and surreal, pastel-colored wetlands. Back down in the Atacama Valley, you’ll hike through a hidden gorge named the Quebrada de Jere, an oasis of fruit trees, flowers, and herbs near the traditional Andean village of Toconao. It’s a day of eye-opening contrasts, giving you a spectacular glimpse of the Atacama.

Included: Altiplanic Lagoons & Salt Lake Group excursion with guide and transport, Entrance fees; Accommodation in the Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast).

Tatio Geysers

On day five you’ll have a magical day discovering the gurgling geysers and mystical mud pools.

Early in the morning, explore the highest geyser field on the planet during this brilliant half-day group tour. Hidden up in the Andes at 4,300 meters above sea-level and surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, El Tatio is like nowhere else on earth. The geysers are most striking around daybreak when temperatures hover around the sub-zero mark, so you’ll leave San Pedro de Atacama before dawn to get the best views of the hydro-activity.

As you wander between gurgling steam vents and bubbling mud pools circled by multicolored mineral deposits and bright algae, the early start will soon pay off. Known by the locals as’ The Weeping Grandfather’, El Tatio is a mythical site that feels almost like part of a fantasy world. Once you’ve finished exploring the geysers and snapping the action, you’ll be treated to a buffet breakfast, where you can warm up with a cup of coffee.

Afterward, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs before hopping back on the bus. On the way back to San Pedro, you can take a light trek along the mountain brook of Puripica, passing through a cactus-lined canyon.

The afternoon is free for you to spend at leisure.

Included: Half day Tatio Geyser group tour with guide and transport, Entrance fee; Accommodation in Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast)

Exploring the Lagoons

This day is full of colors, be sure to pack your camera to get some fantastic shots of this stunning area. As you say goodbye to Chile, this next section of the tour will show you why Bolivia is more than just a pit stop on the way to Peru.

You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Hito Cajón, where your guide and 4×4 vehicle will be waiting to take you towards Laguna Verde (Green lagoon), at the foothills of Licancabur Volcano. You will pass through the Dalí Desert and the thermal waters of Chalviri.

The trip continues to the ‘Sol de Mañana’ geysers to admire the spectacular colors of the hot mud. Then you’ll head to Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), where the famous James’ Flamingos , unique to its species in the world, will be appreciated. You will witness the lagoon’s color tones change until reaching the characteristic red color, where its name comes from. Later, you will arrive in the town of Villamar, where you will spend the night.

Included: 4×4 Transportation with English speaking guide; Accommodation in Uyuni. (Meals – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Altiplano to the Andes and Cusco

Check out how you’ll be spending day eleven of your Chile, Peru, and Bolivia tour. This is an action-packed day full of fun and cultural activities.

Today at the arranged time, you will be taken to the bus station to begin your journey to Cusco. If you like to upgrade your experience, there is also a Luxury Train from Puno to Cusco that departs on specific days of the week (optional).

Leaving Puno and Lake Titicaca behind, you’ll start your journey by a comfortable tourist bus to Cusco. The drive is approximately 10.5 hours long and you’ll stop off along the route at some of the most beautiful and authentic locations. Stopping at the once-great pre-Hispanic city of Pukara, characterized by its huge pyramids, you will visit the lithic Museum where several artifacts of this period can be admired. The village is also known for its traditional ceramics known as “Toritos de Pucara”. Following your tour of Pukara, which will last around 35 minutes, you’ll board the tourist bus and head towards your next stop at La Raya. At 14,222 ft (4,335 m) above sea level, this marks the highest point of the route and is here where the Vilcanota River otherwise known as, the Sacred River of the Incas, is born and flows down through the mountains before joining the Amazon River.

The tour lasts around 10 minutes before continuing your journey to the fascinating archaeological complex of Raqchi. Stare in amazement at the monumental size of Raqchi and its temple, which has walls reaching up to 49 ft (15 m) and is unique in the Inca Empire.

The tour of Raqchi lasts for around 40 minutes and then you will continue to the last stop before arriving at Cusco, Andahuaylillas. This charming 16th Century village has a beautiful Main Square with the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas; the pride of the town and its people. It is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches built under Spanish influence in the Americas and is often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas”. Your tour of Andahuaylillas will last for about 25 minutes before the tour bus takes you to the final destination of the Capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco.

Upon arrival at Cusco, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel located in the historical center and within walking distance of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Plaza de Armas, the main square of Cusco. Cusco is a place that has it all, busy local markets, grand colonial architecture, rich archeological history, relaxed café’s, beautiful surrounding scenery, and much more. The evening is free for you to spend at your leisure and with many excellent Cusco restaurants to choose from.

Included: Private transfer to the bus station with assistance; Touristic bus from Puno to Cusco with entrance fees and lunch; Private transfer with assistance from Cusco´s bus station to your hotel; Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast, Lunch).

Cusco like a local

Today is the day to dive deep into this amazing city in the Peruvian Andes. You’ll get a chance to experience a ton of Cusco highlights.

Walk around the Imperial City of the Incas, starting at the local market of Cusco, where you will experience a bit of Peruvian Culture and daily Cusqueño life. In the market, you can find the best variety of vegetables, bread, and fruit in the country. Continuing this pleasant walk you’ll visit the impressive Colonial Cathedral in Cusco containing over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School and several beautiful altars.

Afterward, you’ll visit Koricancha, which is considered a religious center of Cusco, geographical and political. The Temple of Koricancha, was where the Inca paid homage to the Sun god called Inti. Qori means goldwork and Kancha means an enclosed space, bounded by walls. Then you’ll walk uphill a bit to enter the artisan quarter of San Blas, where you’ll be able to appreciate a religious painting and many workshops where, if they are available, you can watch artisans in action. After this, you’ll return to your hotel.

Included: Walking city tour with San Blas neighborhood and San Pedro market with a private guide and entrance fees; Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast).

Sacred Valley of the Inca

Bring your bargaining skills for today’s activities. You will have the chance to browse and purchase the world-renowned Peruvian tapestries.

After being picked up from your hotel your tour will start with a brief pit stop at the Mirador de Qorao or Awanacancha before heading up to Pisac. A famed hill town, Pisac is a great place to purchase top quality Andean knitwear at lower prices than you will find in major cities during your trip to Peru. Woven blankets, tapestries, and alpaca garments such as sweaters and mittens, colorful fabric, and accessories are found in abundance at the Pisac market in addition to pottery, jewelry, and other handicrafts. Then, you will visit the archaeological site of Pisac.

You will go to the ‘Tanqanamarca Cemetery’, where there existed an estimated 10000 burials and to the ‘Qantas Raqay neighborhood’ area, for farmers. It is composed of rustic stone buildings built on the edges of the cliffs. Afterward, you will go for a buffet lunch in the Sacred Valley, set in extensive gardens with beautiful views across the Valley. Then, you continue to an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning.

The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses. The stone used for these buildings was brought from a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River – an incredible feat involving the efforts of thousands of workers.

Included: Sacred Valley tour in group service with transport, entrance fees, and lunch; Accommodation in Sacred Valley. (Meals – Breakfast, Lunch).

A Magical Machu Picchu Excursion

Day fourteen is the ultimate bucket list day and an opportunity that most people only dream about. Head to enchanting Machu Picchu, one of the most impressive places in the world.

Today at the arranged time, you will be taken to the Ollantaytambo train station to board your train to Aguas Calientes!

The citadel of Machu Picchu is by far the most important tourist attraction in the Sacred Valley. Discovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, this stronghold, overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture in the world.

In ancient times, when the Inca was considered to be a descendant of a god, this fortress was considered his palace above the clouds, where only the chosen ones could live. Every trip to Peru should include this destination and World Wonder. In Aguas Calientes, you’ll board a bus for a 20-minute ride to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, where you’ll have a guided tour to explore this magnificent sample of Inca architectural perfection. You can also hike up to Machu Picchu Mountain to admire more stunning views of the ancient Inca citadel from above. The hike will take you around two hours one way and about one hour to get back. After an extensive visit to this magical place, you will have some free time to take some pictures before taking the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.

Taking the train from Aguas Calientes you’ll head through the dramatic landscape of the Sacred Valley until you reach Cusco. Having acclimatized to the altitude the last few days, Cusco’s altitude (11,150ft. above sea level) should be no problem at all at this point, allowing you to get out and enjoy the town this evening, or get some rest at one of our lovely boutique hotels in Cusco.

Included: Private transfer to the train station; Train ticket to Aguas Calientes and back to Cusco; Private guided excursion to Machu Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain, entrance fees and Roundtrip bus to Machu Picchu; Private transfer from the train station in Cusco to your hotel; Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast).

Day at Leisure

Spend your final full day however you wish. You’re sure to be day-dreaming about the incredible time you had in Bolivia, Chile, and Peru.

Today is free for you to spend it at leisure but here is a good opportunity to learn more about the Peruvian Cacao that is one of the finest in the world. SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION

Presidente hotel, la paz.

The Presidente Hotel is a good three star hotel in downtown La Paz. While it doesn't have a huge amount of character the rooms are spacious and comfortable with everything you would need for your stay in the city. It is just a short walk from the San Francisco Church and witches market so is in a great location in the colonial part of the city. The Presidente has 103 rooms and suites, with en suite bathrooms, safety deposit boxes, 24 hour room service, wi-fi and cable television. The higher rooms are better as they are further from the street noise and also offer fantastic views across the city. There is a small indoor pool, sauna and steam room, a bar and restaurant on the 17th floor with 360 degree views of the city. This is a good value hotel in a fantastic location.

Luna Salada Hotel, Uyuni Salt Flats

Located on an elevated piece of land on the edge of the Uyuni Salt Flats, the Luna Salada is a fantastic hotel built almost entirely of salt with spectacular 360-degree views of the surrounding area. The hotel has 23 original rooms constructed from salt and 7 which are new additions. The hotel's 23 original rooms are entirely built of salt and the beds have comfortable mattresses with plenty of thick duvet to keep you warm when the cold nights set in. The majority of the rooms have views across the Salar de Uyuni and there are comfortable seating areas throughout the hotel for guests to relax and enjoy the views, as well as a games room. The restaurant boasts the same views across to the flats. This is by far the best salt hotel in the area in terms of comfort and service so well worth a stay for at least a night for a truly unique experience.

Posada Del Inca Lodge, Isla del Sol

Posada del Inca is a lovely 21 roomed traditional hotel on Sun Island, offering guests a peaceful and comfortable place to stay with fantastic views across Lake Titicaca. All of the rooms are basic but have electric blankets and hot water 24 hours a day. The rooms are spread out through the gardens and there is a central garden area where guests can relax in the sun when not out exploring the island. There is a small restaurant at the hotel. While this is still a basic hotel in terms of facilities, it is the best option on the island and a real haven. It is worth bearing in mind that to get to the hotel from the main harbour you do need to climb the Inca steps, which are quite tiring, especially at altitude.

Altiplanico San Pedro De Atacama, San Pedro de Atacama

The Altiplanico San Pedro de Atacama is a traditionally built adobe style hotel on the outskirts of the Atacaman town of San Pedro. The three star hotel faces the Licancabur Volcano and is desgined to merge with the desert through its construction from local materials in a homage to the architecture of Altiplano village. There area total of 29 rooms featuring an en suite bathroom, Wi-Fi and private terrace. Rooms come in single, doubles, triples and family rooms, with Superior rooms having an additional outdoor shower for a shower under the stars. There is a lovely pool on the grounds and a small restaurant, providing a true oasis from the desert surroundings.

Casa Andina Premium Puno, Puno

This is the premium brand from the well-known and well-loved Peruvian Casa Andina hotels. Their Lake Titicaca hotel sits on the outskirts of the small town of Puno, around 10 minutes from the centre, on the banks of the lake itself. The hotel has just 46 rooms and suites each with a small balcony and differing views. Like most hotel options in Puno, rooms are quite plainly decorated with just a few photographs on the walls of the region. However, being out of town, they offer a bit more space and come complete with all international standard amenities. A draw of the lakeside hotel is its restaurant and a terrace, set away from the main building, which benefits from great views of the lake which guests can enjoy over a meal or a drink from the bar. The bar, just off the main lobby, also serves tapas most evenings. Casa Andina Premium in Puno is a homegrown Peruvian hotel option that benefits from a quiet and attractive location set on the lake, away from the main town.

Colca Lodge, Colca Canyon

Located at 3,250 above sea level and three-and-a-half hours from  Arequipa on the banks of the River  Colca , Colca  Lodge Spa & Hot Springs is surrounded by hundreds of pre-Incan terraces declared part of Peru’s cultural heritage. Boasting relaxing thermal springs rich in lithium and a tranquil spa right on the hotel’s grounds, it makes for the perfect place to unwind after a busy itinerary. The only real contender for an overnight option in the valley, the lodge is around an hour from the famed Condor’s Cross. After exploring the canyon, guests will welcome retiring back to a wonderful feast at the restaurant, followed by some downtime in one of the 45 rooms which offer simplicity with a bit of character facing the river and valley. There is also a short hike right from the hotel’s doorstep to a small pre-Inca archaeological site. The British owner is deeply involved in conservation efforts within the country, and proceeds go towards funding various community projects and encouraging responsible tourism in Peru.

Le Reve Boutique Hotel, Santiago

Set in the tree-lined residential area of Providencia in Santiago, this 14-room boutique hotel is equally homey and stylish. Designed as a century-old, French-style manor, it has a charming courtyard and vine covered façade. The small, charming Hotel La Reve has a low-key elegance, forgoing facilities like a swimming pool or the other trappings of a larger hotel. It is located just a few metro stops away from the hustle and bustle of both the Bellavista and Lastarria neighbourhoods.

Arawi Miraflores Hotel, Lima

The four-star Arawi is found in the upmarket district of Miraflores and offers simple, modern luxury in a small hotel. The 31 elegant ensuite rooms are smartly furnished with marble bathrooms and feature all mod cons including LED TV and Wi-Fi. The interior design is contemporary with the corridors exhibiting local art. Aklla, the onsite restaurant & bar, offers a lovely introduction to Peruvian cuisine, serving up fresh ceviche, lomo saltado and of course the signature cocktail pisco sour. The highlight is the location, within walking distance from Larco Mar seafront shopping centre, the esplanade and the country’s best restaurants.

Los Flamencos Eco Hotel, Southern Deserts

Los Flamencos is situated near the Chilean border on the shores of Laguna Hedionda, on the South Lipez desert. Pink flamingos abound and you are surrounded by plateau and mountains. This eco hotel has simple rooms with private bathrooms and hot water. Try the coca liquor in the on site restaurant, which serves fixed dinners and buffet breakfasts.

Katari, Arequipa

Katari is a fantastic boutique hotel in a prime location on the main square of Plaza de Armas. Boasting one of the best views of the city, the hotel sits across the plaza from the city’s historic Cathedral which can be admired from the rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city and the surrounding volcanoes. Rooms are charming with colonial-style décor, brick floors, local alpaca textiles and designer ensuite bathrooms. There are also treatment rooms available for a massage. Please note that the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, however breakfast is included and served on the rooftop terrace during the warmer summer months.

chile bolivia peru tour

Transfer to Santiago airport for the flight to Calama, set in the middle of the Atacama desert. Arrival and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Accommodation at your Hotel, Altiplanico.

Altiplanico Hotel

Tour of San Pedro de Atacama, cradle of the Atacama Culture during the pre-Columbian period. Followed by a visit to the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt mountain range) and the only view of the massive salt flat with the Licancabur volcano in the background. We will then visit the Pukara de Quitor. In the afternoon, excursion to the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) which astonishes visitors with its geological formation of salts and carbonates and where nature has shaped an astonishing landscape. Return to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

San Pedro de Atacama Hotel   |   Meals: B

After breakfast, we will visit the Archaeological Museum Padre Le Paige where we will witness an exhibition showing the evolution of Atacamanian life over the last 11,000 years. We will then visit the town church, The Main Square, the house of Pedro de Valdivia (a conquistador and the founder of Santiago). Toconao stands out with its bell tower, alleys and craft workshops. After lunch, a visit to Lake Chaxa to view the three species of flamingoes amongst many other birds.

Very early morning departure to the Tatio Geysers to experience this spectacular demonstration of volcanic activity. In the middle of the Andean mountains, the El Tatio Geysers at 4,500 metres above sea level gush fumaroles at dawn. We will also visit the village of Caspana with its fertile terraces, architecture in Liparita stone and characteristic mud-roofs. We will then cross the border into Bolivia and head towards the Green Lagoon which is at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano. We will arrive at lunch time, which is the best time to see how its waters change colours from emerald green to deeper green. We will then visit the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, the Coloured Lagoon. This lagoon is the main nesting centre of the three kinds of flamingos and its colour produced by algae and plankton activated by the sun and the wind give the red and pink colour to the flamingos. Overnight at a rustic lodge.

Meals: All meals

This day we will cross the Salar from south to north and we will head towards the lagoon chain of Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, Honda and Ramaditas, where we will see three types of flamingo and other kinds of birds. These birds live on the lagoons alongside the volcanoes. We will continue the expedition towards San Pedro de Quemes where we will have lunch and a rest in the Tayka Stone Hotel. Then we will continue toward the Mala Mala Bahia, to find the Galaxia Cave where we will find a cactus sanctuary and petrified stromatolites and finally a Chullpas cemetery (ancestral burying). The cave presents a very weird sub-aquatic geological formation from the era of the Michin Lake (300 000 years ago) and from the Tauca Lake (40000 years ago). In the afternoon, visit to the Incahuasi Island which is one of the central tourist attractions. We will follow the little path to arrive at the top of the island from where we will get the amazing 360° view on the Salar.

We will enter the Salar by Colchani, where we will stop to visit the salt factory and we will receive comments on the salt family economy which command the life of this village. Once the first visit done, we will enter the Salar and stop at the salt mounts from where we will continue to the dominating and magic Thunupa Volcano. We will ascend a part of the volcano with the car to the Coquesa Mummies. From this point we will have a nice view upon the monumental Salar. Then we will descend to Tahua where we will have lunch at the comfortable Tayka Salt Hotel.

Tayka Salt Hotel   |   Meals: All meals

After breakfast, transfer to Colchani and then the airport at Uyuni for the flight to La Paz. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Free afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast, transfer to the bus terminal for the journey to Puno. Cross the border, after the formalities, transfer to your hotel.

After breakfast, a full day excursion to the islands of Uros and Taquile with your guide. Uros, a group of islands made entirely of tortora reeds is home to a small community dating back to a pre-Inca culture. The inhabitants of Taquile are more closely related to the Aymara people of Bolivia than the Quechua Incas of Peru. Lunch on the islands. Return to Puno and your hotel.

Meals: B & L

After breakfast, transfer to the bus terminal for the journey to Cuzco. You will visit several sites along the way and include lunch before arrival to Cuzco and transfer to your hotel.

After breakfast, enjoy a group guided tour of Cuzco including the Cathedral, Qoricancha temple, the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cuzco, Qenko and Puka Pukara. Cuzco's history extends back to before 1000 BC when the Marcavalle Culture was the dominant power; indeed organized life in the City began practically with them. In the second phase of its history, around 800BC, Cuzco was home to the Chanapata culture and later developed several regional states. What is traditionally known as the Inka civilisation began around 1200 AD in its initial phase, with the first Inka, Manko Capaq and Mama Ocllo. It is also suggested that Pachakuteq, the ninth king, elaborated another foundation in 1438 which is also known as the expansive phase. Inca builders hereafter laid out the city in the form of a puma, with the fortress of Sacsayhuaman as the head. After the arrival of the Spanish to the city on November 15th 1533, Francisco Pizarro re-founded it for the Spanish King on March 23rd 1534. In 1536 Manko Inka began a long and bloody war against the Spanish invaders with a siege lasting over 8 months over the city. Finally in 1572, after a war that lasted 36 years, Tupaq Amaru I, the last emperor of the Inka dynasty was defeated, captured and executed in the city's main square. The Spanish subsequently destroyed many of the structures in the city or used them as foundations for many of their own churches and buildings.

Full-day private excursion to the beautiful Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, situated between Pisac and Ollantaytambo. It is an exceptionally fertile valley that was and remains the larder of Cuzco. Visit the market at Pisaq before enjoying a buffet lunch. Visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town that was not defeated by the Spanish with an opportunity to explore the ruins which tower above. Late afternoon return to your hotel.

Today you will have an early start and enjoy breakfast before your train to Aguas Calientes. The train will depart at 08.30am for the 3 ½ hour journey. Arrive to Aguas Calientes train station, gateway to the lost city of the Incas. A guided tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular ancient city in the world. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants or a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. Return in the late afternoon to Cuzco.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Lima.

Explore the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, (the Sacred Lake of the Incas) and arrive at Puno before travelling across the Andes to Cusco.

You'll be based in Cusco for 4 nights where you have a city tour included. Using Cusco as your base, explore the Sacred Valley and magnificent Machu Picchu, one of the highlights of any trip to South America.

There is also an optional short hike to one of the giant sand dunes in the valley.

Overnight San Pedro de Atacama. Breakfast included.

Day 5: San Pedro - El Tatio Geysers - San Pedro

Have a very early start around 4 am and head north to the famous El Tatio Geysers, at over 4,400 metres, to arrive for sunrise.

Super-heated water emerges powerfully from the frozen ground in over 100 geysers, boiling pools and fumaroles.

Enjoy breakfast next to the geysers and afterwards take a walk around the geothermal field close to this natural wonder.

If possible (depending on the activity of the geyser) you can take a bath in the hot thermal pools.

Lunch will be served shortly after  in a typical restaurant in Sicuani.

Viracocha Temple was the only Inca temple featuring cylindrical stone columns covered by fine clay layers, whilst the last stop is in Andahuaylillas, known for its baroque church dating back from the 17th century.
