Chisomo Safari Camp overlooks the Makhutsi River, within the private Karongwe Game Reserve of the Limpopo, South Africa. The camp prides itself on offering an unrivaled African safari experience where the warm atmosphere, friendly staff and exceptional cuisine compliment the excellent Big Five game viewing.

Chisomo boasts twenty-two Luxury tented suites that are built from thatch, canvas and include simplistic furnishings. Each feature two three quarter beds or one four-poster double bed draped with mosquito netting, en-suite bathroom with shower only, hairdryer, in-room safe, fan, minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, a writing desk/dressing table, and a deck with comfortable chairs and views of the Makhutsi River that is frequently visited by wildlife.  

The camp facilities include a lounge, dining area, bar, library, spa, complimentary internet access and a swimming pool.

Boasting over 9000 hectares of pristine African bushveld, Chisomo is home to the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) as well as an abundance of other species. The magnificent setting makes for perfect photographic opportunities; enjoying the view of the Lowveld from a hilll amongst the flat area of lush vegetation,  and over 365 different bird species. Morning and afternoon game drives are conducted with qualified game rangers and Shangaan trackers – who will share their vast experience of the African Bush and offer the opportunity of viewing cheetah on foot.

Botswana Experience

Anja, our agent, was very kind and helpful all the time to organize the perfect trip. She did it quickly and efficiently. The amount of days we spent in every place was perfect to really enjoy the hotels and the different activities they proposed (in general the hotels are very nice but we don’t have the time to really experience the place but here we did). Also the selections of hotels was very very nice. Nice infrastructure, excellent service (very professional) and outstanding places to visit (all the parks were great). We had a wonderful experience with the company in Botswana.

Extremely personable staff, warm and friendly. The whole camp resonates with a retro rustic elegance. The game drives are phenomenal.

The location, staff, food, accommodations and activities were excellent!

I really enjoyed staying there, Steven and Gilda were amazing very friendly, knowledgeable, problem solver and caring. Also the other staff like Raimondo and Matthew also were great. It was an excellent experience. The way they were caring us, locating the lunch and dinner table. the occasions that we could have group Dinner and Lunches... was really good.

The whole experience was exceptional. The accommodation was top class and the food was excellent. The staff were fantastic, in particular our guide Rifus and our tracker Ernest. It was a once in a lifetime experience but we would love to do it again some time.

Glamping tent units were so nice and spacious. Such a cool experience. Guided safaris were great as well and saw so many animals UP CLOSE. Everything was on schedule. Food was fantastic with a huge variety. We never went hungry. Staff were wonderful and wish we had more time to chat with them and other guests.

From our arrival to departure we received the best hospitality. The staff are very friendly and madr sure their guest has everything they need. The room is very spacious. We enjoyed the food, the staff and the whole setting.

Chisomo Safari Camp (which means “blessings”) combines the warmth and vibrancy of a Safari, exuding a true feeling of being in a bygone era in the Africa wilderness.

Situated under the shade of towering knob thorns and Jackleberry trees, the camp accommodates 44 guests in luxury tented suites.

Celebrate the magnificent view of the Lowveld from the top of the highest outcrop on Karongwe with a short climb accompanied by a Guide.

Chisomo Safari Camp is the ideal camp for group traveling. Luxury safari tents face the beautiful Makhutswe River and wildlife may be watched from the decks as it emerges from the reeds for grazing Kudu, Nyala, Bushbuck are as common a sight as elephant and even the elusive leopard. Guests enjoy dinners at the luxuriously furnished, thatched public area overlooking the river and the bush or a traditional braai at a specially created bush dinner site where traditional dishes are served under the stars. The camp is easily accessible by tour bus and vehicle parking space is provided just outside the reception area. Chisomo is a perfect hub for exploring the tourism hotspots of the Valley of the Olifants as the camp is located closely to both the Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park. Chisomo Safari offers a range of excursions that can be booked on spot. Game viewing on the Karongwe is exceptional with an unequaled variety of flora and fauna additional to the famous Big Five.

Chisomo Safari Camp is a shady river retreat offering luxury, tranquillity and a close to nature experience with its 22 tents on stilts overlooking the Makhutswi River. Wildlife is Africa's heritage - and at Chisomo Safari Camp we nurture it. Our game drive and walk experience is a modern-day journey into the past when this expanse of pristine bushveld knew nothing else but a rich profusion of the diverse game and virgin vegetation. Our specially trained game rangers and trackers will take you on day and night drives in comfortable open four-wheel-drive Landcruisers. Most of our rangers and trackers are Shangaan and bring to the game experience the richness of their culture and vast knowledge of nature. With their natural tracking abilities and Karongwe's modern bush telegraph, our rangers will go out of their way to bring you as close to the Magnificent Seven (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah and African wild dog) as they possibly can. On one game drive, you may stop an arms-length away from a leopard napping after a kill, disembark and walk just metres away from a couple of cheetahs or stop in the middle of a pride of lions, observing the king of the jungle watching over his frolicking cubs. At all times, care and consideration for both guests and wildlife are of utmost importance. Guests can also relax at the pool, in-between their daily game drives or walks. Breakfasts and lunches are normally served under a lapa overlooking the river, where guests can also enjoy drinks at their built-in bar. Some nights you'll enjoy sumptuous traditional African dishes in the thatched dining area, while other nights dinner will be served by candlelight next to the pool - or even at a unique bush dinner site, created especially for Chisomo Guests guests.

They also offer complimentary bottled water, although the tap water is perfectly safe to drink.

4 Day Baobab Ridge Safari

DAY 1: Johannesburg – Chisomo Safari Camp

You will be collected from OR Tambo International Airport and driven through the wide-open spaces of the Highveld, via the N4 motorway through the scenic JG Strydom Tunnel towards Tzaneen to arrive at Chisomo Safari Camp by mid-day, in time for a light lunch.

After lunch there is some time to relax before it is time to depart on a late-afternoon game drive in the reserve. Dinner will be served in the dining area or outside under the stars (weather permitting).

You overnight in a luxury tented suite at Chisomo Safari Camp and your stay i ncludes lunch and dinner.  

DAY 2,3 and 4: Chisomo Safari Camp and the reserve

Your wake-up call at 05:00 will just give you time for a hot beverage and rusks before departing for a three-hour sunrise game drive in the reserve.

You will return to the lodge for a late breakfast and can spend the rest of the day relaxing at the pool or in the lounge area. Your afternoon game drive will commence at about 16:00, to return around 19:00 in time for dinner in the dining area or outside under the stars (weather permitting).

You overnight in your luxury tented suite at Chisomo Safari Camp and your stay i ncludes breakfast, lunch and dinner.  

DAY 5: Chisomo Safari Camp – Johannesburg

You repeat the procedure of the previous days and enjoy your last game drive in the reserve while the sun is rising, followed by a hearty breakfast before departing mid-morning on your return journey to Johannesburg.

You will arrive at OR Tambo International Airport during late afternoon – approximately 17:00.
