Welcome to ChUrch, Amsterdam's premier LGBTQ+ cruise club where the congregation knows how to party like sinners!

Venue details.

This ain't your grandma's church, folks. While ChUrch in Amsterdam is primarily a queer sanctuary, it extends its warm embrace to allies and those curious about the LGBTQ+ experience. It's a place where understanding, education, and celebration coexist, offering an opportunity for everyone to broaden their horizons and let go of any preconceived notions.

At chUrch, diversity reigns supreme. It's a vibrant sanctuary that embraces a wide range of fetishes and welcomes everyone with open arms. Whether you identify as queer, transgender, straight, or somewhere deliciously in between, this is the place to let your freak flag fly high and proud. Here, you'll find a vibrant mix of locals, expats, and globe-trotting party animals, all basking in the glory of Amsterdam's inclusive spirit. Crowd is usually bisexual and gay men, 20s - 40s (depending on event).

The venue itself is a conversion of an old chapel, but don't expect any fire and brimstone sermons. Instead, immerse yourself in an atmosphere that blends historical grandeur with a futuristic twist. The dance floor, once an altar, now beckons you to unleash your wildest dance moves beneath a celestial ceiling. And fear not, dear revelers, the spirits of the past are more inclined to bless your rhythm than condemn it.

ChUrch plays host to a variety of electrifying events throughout the week, ensuring there's always something enticing for every queer soul. Whether you're a disco diva, a house music enthusiast, or simply looking to surrender to the magic of drag, this heavenly sanctuary delivers. Expect themed nights, guest DJs, and performances that will leave you awestruck and wanting more.

Regular theme nights include Naked Bar , a men-only party for gay and bisexual men to let it all hang out with shoes only for the dress code.

Blue is the absurd dance party for all genders and sexualities. There's no specific dress code, but feel free to dress up or down as you please.

(z)onderbroek is men-only underwear party where you can drop your pants and dance like there's no tomorrow. The dress code is simple but oh-so-sexy: no pants, only underwear allowed. Briefs, jocks, swim briefs, boxers, sports shorts, or even going commando are all welcome. Just remember, no board shorts, bermudas, or any street wear allowed.

S.O.S. (Sex on Sunday) is a men-only iconic event has been going strong for over 20 years, and it's always buzzing with excitement and steamy encounters. Arrive early because this party is known to get busy and cruisy. In fact, the doors may even close if it reaches maximum capacity! So, don't miss out on the action and make sure to secure your spot. The dress code for S.O.S. is all about embracing your sensuality. While being shirtless is the norm, you'll find plenty of guys in their underwear or even fully nude. It's an atmosphere filled with anticipation and lots of action.

In addition to its regular events, chUrch also plays host to a plethora of unique and unpredictable gatherings. From one-of-a-kind parties to special events, there's always something exciting happening at this vibrant venue.

So, my lovely LGBTQ+ travelers and seekers of fabulousness, when in Amsterdam, make ChUrch your pilgrimage!

Gay Clubs in Amsterdam

Amsterdam gay clubs entertainment scene

The Amsterdam gay club scene is vibrant and thriving, with plenty of options to choose from. Many clubs are exclusively gay, while other clubs host regular or semi-regular gay nights. The list here is a selection of the best gay clubs Amsterdam has to offer, so your night on the town can be spent at just the right spot.

Look at our page about Gay hotels in Amsterdam .

Church - The most popular gay club in Amsterdam

Church is one of the most well-respected cruise clubs in Amsterdam’s gay scene. Split over two floors, Church offers a great bar and dance floor as well as private rooms, showers and almost anything else a playful mind might desire. The club hosts regular theme nights, including Wednesday’s naked night when the only clothes permitted are shoes. Check their website to keep up to date with theme nights and entrance fees. Church can be found quite close to Leidseplein, a short walk from the Amistad gay hotel. Address: Kerkstraat 52 Web: http://www.clubchurch.nl/

De Trut - A well known Amsterdam gay club

Another mainstay gay club in Amsterdam, De Trut has been around since the 80s and has always been a scene favourite thanks to its non-commercial approach. All the staff are volunteers and all profits made by the club are used to promote LGBT causes. De Trut hosts club nights with specific dress codes which they enforce strictly, so be sure to check the website to see what’s on before dropping in. The use of phones and any kind of photography are also banned, to promote a safe place for the LGBT community to be free of prying eyes. Despite, or because of, its many rules, De Trut remains a fun and safe Amsterdam gay club. Address: Bilderdijkstraat 165-E Web: http://www.trutfonds.nl/

Club NYX - Amsterdam gay district club

This relatively mainstream club in the heart of the Amsterdam gay district of Reguliersdwarsstraat attracts a young crowd and is welcoming of straight visitors. The club is split over three floors, with each offering a different style of music. In the third floor bathrooms you can find something unique to NYX: a toilet DJ! There are a number of rules at the club, which basically boil down to not taking photos, being pretentious or ruining anyone else's fun. Club NYX hosts a number of different club nights and is open until 05:00 on the weekends and until 09:00 on the first Saturday of every month. Address: Reguliersdwarsstraat 42 Web: http://clubnyx.nl/

Spellbound at Occii - Amsterdam club with gay nights

While it is not a dedicated gay bar, on the first Saturday of every second month Occii plays host to Spellbound, the city's most beloved underground gay dance party. Techno and house are the most common music genres of the event, and visitors come from all around to dance and mingle in the unique surroundings of Occii. The venue is a former squat, legalised in 1989, and a vital part of the Amsterdam squat scene. Every staff member is a volunteer and, when not hosting Spellbound, Occii serves as a centre for a wide range of alternative culture events. Address: Amstelveenseweg 134 Web: http://www.spellbound-amsterdam.nl/

Club Orange on Nieuw Amsterdam

We just booked a veranda room with HA for Thanksgiving on the Nieuw Amsterdam.  We also purchased the Club Orange package.  I would love to hear the experiences of those who previously booked Club Orange. Any tips, thoughts or opinions  would be appreciated.

I feel club orange doesn’t hold a lot of value other than on the pinnacle ships.  That said you can end up with a decent upgrade out of it.  You will also have one extra entree to choose from nightly.

What do you perceive the extra value to be on pinnacle vessels?

The separate CO dining room.  Smaller, less noisy, more personal.

Exactly.  That's it for sure.

Also depends upon the Mariner tier of the OP.   If OP is not at least 4*, then OC also allows priority boarding and tendering and a few other bennies.  Suggest OP take a look at the Club Orange benefits page on HALs site.  Other posters are also correct in that the Signature sisters do not have a dedicated Club Orange dining venue.

You will receive a special Club Orange bag. You will be able to use the Priority line at customer service.  You will enter the dining room at the Club Orange entry which will give you priority seating and a menu with one additional entree.  You will have priority tendering which likely means you will not need a tender ticket, just show your room keycard.  You should also have received special pricing at the lowest veranda level while you could choose your higher priced veranda stateroom.

There is no Club Orange dining room on the NA which is probably just as well.  Sometimes with the special dining room you have to wait to be seated and the food and service can be great or not so great.  You have the same Club Orange menu in the dining room and if you can get the same servers/table the dining room service is often better than in the special venue.

Have a wonderful cruise.

At night 90 percent of the food is cooked in the mdr not in club orange.  In the morning everything is cooked in club orange.  Yes I’ve had to wait some mornings to get into club orange but 90 percent of the time the food has been hot.  When I’ve been in the mdr it’s been hot maybe 10 percent of the time.  I’ve had to wait to get into the mdr for long periods. I remember it being well over an hour a few times. I do open.  I’ve never waited an hour to get into club orange.

As far as the priority line at the front desk that has been a big bust.  I’ve stood there while they took 15 or 20 people before I asked if they could help me.

How is the breakfast in the Pinnacle Grill? I thought I also read that the extra menu charges were waved. All thoughts are appreciated.

There is no breakfast in the pinnacle grill unless you are in a Neptune or pinnacle suite.  For some reason this gets mentioned a bit unless this is a very recent addition.

This is on some website that “since there is not CO dining room, breakfast is in the Pinnacle Grill.  I have not seen any post talking about this.

I just read this on HAL website,  “Premium in-room dining breakfast menu • KoningsdamandNieuwStatendam:privatediningvenue for breakfast and dinner with an expanded menu • All other ships: priority seating in the Dining Room for breakfast and dinner with an expanded menu

Sorry for any confusion and thanks for clarifying the policy.

The way this is worded sounds a bit better than it is.  I know they used to have an expanded breakfast room service menu.  I don’t think that is true anymore but I could be wrong.  I rarely have room service unless I’m doing an early excursion.  There is no extra breakfast menu items.  You can get a mimosa for no charge.  There is one extra entree at night.  If I remember correctly there was at least one poster that kept repeating about the breakfast in the pinnacle.  I just don’t want people to be disappointed.  To be honest I have had breakfast in both places and I prefer club orange.  Also listed as an item on club orange is some special “event”.  I’ve had club orange on the koningsdam for a total of 4 weeks.  There has not been a special event.  Hal’s strong suit is not updating literature.

Another CO question! We will be in a NS as a result of a very reasonable upgrade offer, however, the couple we are travelling with were not made an offer. While I know they cannot use the Neptune Lounge, can they dine in CO as our quests or is that tightly controlled as well?

Thanks for any input and safe travels all.

No, CO is not available to your friends, unless they buy it.

We were on the Nieuw Amsterdam in July.  We were in a neptune suite (rare splurge for us) and Club Orange was included.  As you probably know by now, there is no separate Club Orange dining room.  When you arrive at the main dining room on deck 2, there is a podium labeled Club Orange.  Be sure to talk to the person behind it, or the other maitre my ask for your cabin number and lead you a non-club orange table.  There is no separate entrance to Club Orange at the dining room.  There is a vaguely defined separate section of the deck two dining room for Club Orange members.  You receive a slightly different menu, with at least one extra entree available nightly.  Also, at your cabin will be a room service breakfast "hanger" with a few extra items.  Two examples of free extra items are freshly squeezed OJ, and Mimosas.   Some people here are responding about Club Orange on the newer, bigger ships like the Rotterdam.  Club Orange on those (we are just back from the Rotterdam) is different in that they have a lovely separate dining room.

DutchNews.nl - DutchNews.nl brings daily news from The Netherlands in English

Amsterdam to slash river cruise stays in over-tourism drive.

cruise club amsterdam

Amsterdam is planning to slash the number of river boat cruises coming to the city as one of “a hundred” measures the city is taking to reduce over-tourism.

Some 2,300 cruise ships moored on the city waterfront last year but by 2028, the city wants to reduce that to 1150, a measure that would cut tourist numbers by 271,000 and hit the region’s economy to the tune of €73.5 million a year.

The problems caused by the cruises are particularly acute during the spring bulb season when 1,000 river boats anchor in the capital, city finance chief Hester van Buren said. “We have a commitment to keep tourist numbers under 20 million a year.”

“I am not saying this is going to solve the problem of too many tourists,” Van Buren said at Wednesday’s presentation of the plans, when asked if the plan would unfairly impact on elderly tourists who don’t cause trouble.

“But we are not going to divide tourists up into good and bad. This is one of a string of measures to reduce the number of tourists in total. It is about the overcrowding and the coaches parked all over the pavements.”

Research carried out on behalf of the city also shows the measure will lead to almost 200,000 fewer nights being spent in the city’s hotels and cut the number of journeys by coach by 64,400 kilometres.

Hotel owners point out, however, that they will be forced to look for alternative holidaymakers to fill their vacancies instead.

“We don’t take bus tours in general, but we do a lot with river cruises,” said Remco Groenhuijzen, the general manager of the city centre Movenpick hotel. “But we will need to fill the empty rooms. This policy has symbolic value only. It does not solve anything.”

The city has recently launched the second phase of its “stay away” campaign in an effort to cut the number of budget tourists coming to the city to smoke weed and have a good time.

It has hiked tourist taxes to some of the highest levels in the world and research on the impact of ocean-going cruises will also be published before summer with a view to making cuts there too.

“Over tourism is a worldwide problem, and tourists don’t like it when places are so full either,” said Van Buren. “But we can’t simply put a fence around Amsterdam.”
