Luxury Cruises to Vietnam

Vietnam cruises with Celebrity show you the many faces of this intriguing country. Ancient temples, incense heavy in the air, contrast with a backdrop of glassy skyscrapers. A constant stream of scooters and motorbikes forms a river of activity through the busy cities, where street food sizzles on roadside stalls. But there’s serenity, too. Historic palaces and ornate pagodas lie in the midst of dense tropical vegetation, while emerald rice paddies reflect the vast sky.

Join a cooking class to prepare fresh, spicy Vietnamese specialties. Take a cycling tour around the enchanting town of Hoi An. See the sheer-sided limestone towers of Halong Bay from a kayak, and delve into modern history in Ho Chi Minh City, with its poignant museums and nearby, the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. You’ll find a dazzling choice of activities and excursions on a luxury cruise to Southeast Asia with Celebrity.

Vietnam Cruise Highlights

Ancient temples.

Vietnam’s countryside is dotted with majestic temples displaying an ageless beauty of bygone cultures. My Son temple complex, near Danang, is one of the most impressive, dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva. Although the crumbling buildings are partly consumed by tropical greenery, a visit here gives you an insight into the wealth and sophistication of Vietnam’s Cham dynasty. Near Hue, visit the Imperial City, a complex within the walled citadel that was once the seat of Vietnam’s Nguyen rulers.

Dazzling Scenery

When it comes to jaw-dropping natural beauty, Vietnam has it all. Some 1,600 jungly limestone towers are scattered across an often mist-shrouded sea in Halong Bay, where tooth-like mountains are reflected in mirror-calm paddy fields. In the far south, rivers criss-cross the vast maze of the green Mekong Delta, coconut palms lining their banks. You’ll find endless golden beaches, too, especially around Danang, lapped by the warm waters of the South China Sea.

Exciting Cuisine

Vietnamese food is both elegant and unique, and packed with contrasts. Spicy dishes are tempered with fresh herbs and vegetables, while crispy salads are paired with refreshing soups and noodles. During your cruise, you could learn to make classic dishes like crispy spring rolls, stir-fried beef, minty chicken salad, and green papaya salad topped with fresh shrimp. Even if you prefer not to cook, don’t miss a chance to browse Vietnam’s colorful markets and dine in a local restaurant.

Vietnam Cruise Itineraries

Explore the coast of Vietnam on itineraries lasting either 12 or 13 nights. You could sail from Singapore to Tokyo, or between Singapore and Hong Kong in either direction. Ports of call include Ho Chi Minh City; Chan May, for Hue and Danang; the beach resort of Nha Trang; and Halong Bay, gateway to the capital, Hanoi, and magnificent limestone landscapes. Most cruises include an overnight in Halong Bay.

Why cruise to vietnam with celebrity cruises.

Celebrity’s luxurious ships take you along the coast of Vietnam in style. Toast to the end of a thrilling day ashore with cocktails at the al fresco Sunset Bar. Enjoy the flavors of iconic Italian dishes in Tuscan Grille, or specialty coffee and pastries from Café al Bacio. On Solstice-series ships, visit the Lawn Club on the upper deck for relaxing, sunbathing, or a game of croquet. Choose The Retreat for the ultimate in luxury, with access to an exclusive lounge and sundeck, fine dining in Luminae, exclusive to guests of The Retreat, and chic suite accommodation.

A cruise to Vietnam with Celebrity will give you an in-depth insight into this complex and fascinating country, from the buzz of cosmopolitan Ho Chi Minh City to the intricate, 19th century citadel of Hue and the French colonial architecture of Hanoi. You’ll have time to bask on the sandy beaches of Nha Trang, gaze at the otherworldly scenery of Halong Bay, and indulge in one of the most exciting cuisines in Southeast Asia.

Traditional Vietnam junks float in Halong Bay, one of many sights you can experience on your luxury Seabourn Cruise

Seabourn began taking travelers to Vietnam shortly after the country re-opened to foreign tourism. The company’s intimate, nimble ships offer a comfortable and convenient way to explore this fascinating country, where independent travel is somewhat difficult.

Over the years Vietnam has formed the heart of a perennially popular cruise itinerary combining Vietnamese ports with calls in Thailand and Cambodia on voyages between  Singapore  and  Hong Kong .

Seabourn’s Vietnam itineraries explore both its ancient and more recent cultural and historic aspects. Seabourn’s ships can navigate the  Saigon River  right into the center of  Ho Chi Minh City , still fondly called Saigon by many of its residents. A short walk brings guests to the broad, Parisian-style boulevards of the city, teeming with rivers of motorbikes and minivans flowing past the impressive 19th-century French colonial landmarks such as the Independence Palace, the People’s Committee (Old City Hall), the Saigon Central Post Office and the Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral. More modern landmarks include the Reunification Museum and the War Remnants Museum, with exhibits documenting the brutal effects of the ‘American War’ on civilians. Other popular attractions for visitors include the Thien Hau Pagoda, the bustling  Binh Tay Market  and the towering Bitexco Financial skyscraper with a Saigon Skydeck on top. Night-time entertainment in HCMC includes folkloric music and dance at the legendary Rex Hotel and  elaborate water-puppet shows .  Two-day stays  allow guests to further explore such surrounding highlights as the wartime  Cu Chi Tunnels  and the fertile  Mekong River Delta . Adventure off the beaten path and take a 3-day,  mid-cruise journey to Angkor Wat: A UNESCO Partner Tour .

The central Vietnam port of  Da Nang  offers access to two  UNESCO World Heritage sites : northward over a mountain ridge lie the tombs and palaces of the ancient  Imperial City of Hue , the former Cham dynasty capital of Vietnam astride the Pearl River. In the venerable  Old City of Hoi An , a distinctive  wooden Chinese-style bridge  survives from its heyday as a  Chinese trading post . Today it is famous for the fine art offered in its galleries, the lightning-fast tailor shops that can fashion clothing within hours and the colorful open market. Not far away are the stone sculpture workshops of the  Marble Mountains  and lovely China Beach.

Halong Bay  is one of Vietnam’s most famous features, an expanse of the  emerald Gulf of Tonkin  festooned with thousands of fantastic  karstic limestone islands  topped by shaggy tropical vegetation. The surreal environment hosts a population of semi-nomadic fisher-folk living on sampans and trading in the nearby port of Haiphong. On your Halong Bay cruise visit the popular destination Cat Ba National Park  for the  sea kayak  and  junk tours  that course through the island maze. From Haiphong, a crowded highway leads to the nation’s capital at Hanoi, where visitors can visit the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the  ancient One Pillar Pagoda , the notorious Hoa Lo Prison Museum and the serene Temple of Literature.

Seabourn guests regularly list our luxury cruise  to Halong Bay Vietnam as one of their most treasured travel memories, with colorful, memorable sights, fascinating cultural insights and friendly, welcoming people.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit.

Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay or Cat Ba Archipelago in the Gulf of Tonkin can be visited all year round. The best time to visit is September to April. Expect hot weather and some tropical rain in the summer from May to August, but the sun and blue skies reappear after the rain before a magical sunset and the moon rising high into the night sky. Be the first to cruise with us on board Heritage Cruises where our team ensures you enjoy every experience whatever the weather conditions.

Is a one-night cruise with Heritage Cruises enough to experience everything?

Some of our clients have told us that one night is too short, so if you want a trip that offers both activities and time to relax, the two-night Heritage Explorer or the three-night Heritage Expeditions options are recommended.

With an extra day, guests can relax in the stunning environment, spend time at a beach, or take a more active approach with swimming, kayaking or cave exploring The boat is a destination in itself with many experiences to offer. Each cabin has a private balcony, and the bathroom has a Jacuzzi allowing guests to enjoy spectacular views while soaking in the tub.

How To Decide Between Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay, Or Bai Tu Long Bay?

No trip to the North of Vietnam can be considered complete without a visit to the absolutely stunning Halong Bay region. But it’s not always that simple to choose your ideal cruising journey: The Tonkin Gulf actually includes 3 bays: Bai Tu Long, Lan Ha and last but not least, Halong Bay.

Halong Bay is by far the most well known by tourists, who come from all over the world to see its stunning beauty. But here’s the catch: Lan Ha Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay have the same scenic beauty as Halong Bay, in fact, some people say more so. Travelers are seeking new and exotic experiences and plus value, whether it is in terms of personal value or value for money. They are looking for new destinations, new hotels, and new cruising experiences. They search for exclusivity and want to be the first to discover a destination. Many have moved towards a quieter understated luxury and plan their trips with a focus on authenticity and experiential travel, searching for particularly enriching once-in-a-lifetime experiences. For us, it is essentially about creating an experiential type of travel that is personal as well as authentic and memorable.

Halong Bay is understandably popular and crowded, but if you want to come experience it alone without other tourists, be sure to book our private charter boat that will sail where you want, cruising on your own itinerary. Go deep into the bay. Explore the caves and grottoes. Head over to Bai Tu Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay. Go trekking in the Cat Ba National Park, rock climbing, kayaking, and, watching some of the most amazing sunsets that you’ll ever set eyes on. The choice is yours.

Book online today and look forward to a relaxing stay with us

Saigon cruise port

Region Asia

Local Time 2024-05-03 02:17

Port Saigon cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Saigon (officially Ho Chi Minh City / abbrev HCMC) is Vietnam's capital and largest city, with population over 8,5 million (metro over 13,5 million). The metro area consists of Ho Chi Minh City metro plus all surrounding towns. The name Saigon is widely used by locals and refers to city's downtown (District 1) which is the homeport for river cruise ships. All cruisetour itineraries between Siem Reap and Saigon pass through Phnom Pehn (Cambodia's capital city) and cross through Tonle Sap Lake .

Ocean-going ships to Saigon dock at Port Phu My (aka Tan Cang Cai Mep/locode VNPHU) while Port Saigon has locode VNSGN. The seaport is located approx 80 mi (130 km / ~1,5 hours drive distance) from the city, connected via a modern 2014-inaugurated highway.

Phu My is a large cargo port without tourist attractions in its vicinity. Cruise ships dock at port's containership terminal. Shuttle bus service to Saigon and also to Ba Ria (approx 16 km / 10 mi to southeast) is provided. From Ba Ria, passengers can access Vung Tau (beach resort city). The best way to get to Ho Chi Minh City is via the cruise ship company or private travel arrangements.

Ho Chi Minh City also has two river ports where cruise ships are usually berthed. Port Saigon is approx 2 km (1,2 mi) from downtown. The other port (Hiep Phuoc) is approx 16 km (10 mi) from downtown. Their GPS coordinates are - Port Saigon (Latitude 10.492100, Longitude 106.451440) and Port Hiep Phuoc (1038N / 10645E). Saigon's river cruise port information was contributed by Mr Truong Hoang - operation manager of A&K Vietnam Travel Co Ltd (subsidiary of "Abercrombie & Kent" - US-based luxury travel agency).

Once known as Prey Nokor, the city was an important Khmer seaport prior to the 17th-century annexation by Vietnam. Named Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City served as the capital of France's Cochinchina colony and later of the independent South Vietnam Republic (1955–1975). On July 2, 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Dinh Province and was renamed after revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969).

In 2007, approximately 4,3 million tourists visited Vietnam, of which 70% (3 million) visited Ho Chi Minh City. Most tourist sites are in District 1, and a short distance from each other. The most prominent buildings in downtown are City Hall, Reunification Palace, Municipal Theatre (Opera House), State Bank Office, City Post Office, City People's Court, Notre-Dame Cathedral. City's historic hotels include Hotel Majestic (from Vietnam's French colonial era) and Rex & Caravelle hotels (fka hangouts for US officers in the 1960s-1970s). The most famous museums are Ho Chi Minh City Museum, Revolutionary Museum, Vietnamese History Museum, Museum of South-Eastern Armed Forces, War Remnants Museum, Fine Art Museum, Southern Women Museum, Nha Rong Memorial House, Ben Duoc Relic of Underground Tunnels. Cu Chi tunnels are north-west of the city. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens were opened in 1865. Also inside the city are located Dam Sen Park, Suoi Tien Amusement Park and Can Gio's Eco Beach Resort.

Port Saigon

The seaport is managed by the authority company Saigon Port JS Co (fka Saigon Trade Bureau). The port has a total quay length 3+ km with 21 docks/berths along 4 rivers (Saigon, Nha Be, Soai Rap, Thieng Lieng). Port's annual cargo shipping traffic is 10+ million tons, or ~50% of Vietnam's SKEZ (Southern Key Economic Zone) that includes HCMC (Ho Chi Minh City) plus 7 provinces (Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang). Port Saigon handles annually ~65% of the region's steel, ~93% of the fertilizers.

Port Tan Thuan Port (HCMC's District 7) handles cargoes like steel, machinery equipment and container ships. Port Saigon-Hiep Phuoc (in HCMC's Nha Be district) has quay length ~1,8 km, land area 100+ hectares (berths and warehouse storages) and can handle cargo vessels with max DWT 70,000 tons, This is HCMC's largest cargo port with annual capacity 20 million tons.

In FY2018 (fiscal year) port's throughput was 9+ million tons, with revenue VND 1000 billion (Vietnamese dong / ~USD 43 million). Via joint venture companies, Saigon Port has partnership operations with leading cargo terminal operators like PSA (Singapore), SSA Marine Seattle (USA), APM Terminals Aarhus (Denmark). The deepwater terminals CMIT (Cai Mep International Terminal, by APM Terminals) was opened in 2006. Thi Vai LNG Terminal is new (2020-opened). The container terminals SSIT (SP-SSA International Terminal, by Saigon Port/Vinalines and SSA Marine Seattle) and CMIT (Cai Mep International Terminal, 2007-opened) have combined quay length 1,8 km and capacity to handle cargo carriers with max DWT 165,000 and ULCVs (Ultra Large Container Vessels) with max capacity 18,000 TEU-containers. SSIT and CMIT have combined annual capacity ~3,7 million TEUs.

Saigon cruise terminal

Ocean-going cruise ships to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) dock at Port Phu My. Tourist riverboats dock in downtown Saigon.

Phu My (pronounced "Foo Me") is Saigon's cargo port where cruise liners dock at its container terminal. A bus shuttle is provided to Ba Ria (approx 10 mi / 16 km to the southeast), from where cruise tourists can travel to Vung Tau. The best way to get to Ho Chi Minh City from Port Phu My is either via the cruise line's organized shore excursions or private tours. Taxis wait outside Port Phu My.

Local tour companies require passport details in advance to arrange seaport passes. Local tour companies picking up cruise tourists at the port also collect the port fees. The alternative is to walk outside Port Phu My and take a taxi.

In Vietnam, tour guides require passport details in advance in order to arrange your port passes. The permit to pick travelers up at the port is compulsory to the company in case tourists want to be legal and safe. Expect to pay USD 25-30 per person for port fees, even though "unofficial" fees may be less.

Visa for cruise to Vietnam

Cool Cruiser

In August I am traveling on a Royal Caribbean Cruise that stops in Vietnam along with several other countries.  I know that Vietnam requires a Visa for US citizens but I am trying to determine if this will be provided on the ship on arrival to Vietnam.  I found one topic on Cruise Critic that says it will be provided on the ship but I really want to see something in writing from Royal Caribbean.  I called Royal Caribbean and they referred me to Visa Central.  Visa Central said the Visa would be provided on the ship but I still have nothing in writing.  Is anyone able to point me to something from Royal Caribbean that specifically says they will provide a Visa.  If I can't find something in writing, I feel like I need to apply for a Visa through normal channels.  Hopefully someone can help.

From personal experience and the experiences of others, yes - all cruise lines arrange Vietnam visas for guests of all (certainly all mainstream) nationalities. They've always been cheaper as well as easier than everyone getting their own tourist visas on-line from the Vietnamese government, but are only valid for arrival & departure on the ship - which of course is fine for the vast majority of ocean cruisers.

Here's a recent thread on the subject - it was posted because the OP learned that NCL are actually charging considerably more for their ship-issued visa than the cost of organising your own pukka tourist visa, but there's other more general visa info in the thread as well

You have the answer you need and it's that the ship provides the Visa required for your Vietnam port stop.

Many people on our cruise that included Vietnam had gotten their Visa's independently and were so sorry they had done this...the ship provided the Visa's to everyone...regardless.

No need to stress over this..it will be taken care of once onboard.

I answered on the other post where you asked this same question.

YES...the ship will arrange for the Visa needed to port stop in Vietnam.

Those that felt the need to apply for them directly pre-cruise were very unhappy they had and the added expense to do so.

The ship at some point prior to arriving into Vietnam will collect your Pass Port and return it with the Vietnam Visa before your scheduled stop there.

Depending on your first port of entry into Vietnam: If you are an American citizen, you may be qualified for an E-Visa, which is not a very complicated process (that can be completed online).

ARandomTraveler

I'm also on a cruise that stops in Vietnam and on the Asia boards, other people who have done those itineraries gave me this link, saying you need to apply for yourself.

The issue is that our OP wants to have written acknowledgement from the cruiseline about the visa.  You can't use the excuse that you didn't obtain a visa because someone on CruiseCritic told you it wasn't necessary.  If I were unable to verify the facts directly with the cruiseline, I'd cancel the cruise.  There's no excuse for being that sloppy.  Who is going to believe some RCCL agent at a call center?  Important stuff like this needs to be in writing.  Not a difficult concept to grasp and I'm surprised that RCCL doesn't publish this information clearly.

Unless the legal folks at RCCL are clueless (which I doubt), OP would never get a correspondence from them stating a governmental requirement (true or not) without it also having a disclaimer (within the message itself and/or within the T&Cs and/or ticket contract) clearly stating that it is the passenger who is ultimately responsible for acquiring the CORRECT information and fulfilling the CORRECT requirements for visas, testing, etc. The legal language would continue with a statement to the effect that RCCL (or any cruise line) bears no responsibility for the accuracy of any information not associated with the cruise line’s provision of the cruise experience itself. Ergo, if a governmental authority then denies you entry into the country or the cruise line is required by that authority to deny you boarding because you do not have the required documentation, it’s not the cruise line’s problem.

My above posts are my personal experience with RCI and our itinerary that included Vietnam.

The ship did provide the necessary Visa once onboard for our port stop.

twangster

You are unlikely to find written statements from the cruise line for a number of reasons that all come back to protecting themselves if a foreign government makes a change to their customs and immigrations policy at any time, which some government do from time to time.

By not putting it in writing no one can come back and blame the cruise line or demand compensation when a foreign government makes a change.

Maybe it's too early, but am I reading that the ship will provide the visa but nobody will tell you that?

If your cruise stops anywhere in China, you will need to get a Visa on your own - the ship does not provide visas for China - this is from personal experience.

My itinerary and cruise documents don't say anything about the cruise line providing any visas.

It’s also a PRC requirement right now.

Yes and the price is hefty. It costs just a little more to get a 10 year multiple entry visa so that's what I did even though I don't think I will be going back there anytime soon.

We’ve got 10 yr PRC visas. However, they were issued pre-Covid and all of those have been “suspended.” So, unless that changes, we will have to reapply for our trip next February.

Will they refund us the extra $$ we paid for for the 10 year?  LOL - I'm not holding my breath!

Haha

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a Royal Caribbean cruise out of Singapore coming up in January that visits Vietnam. Members of my group hail from Mauritius and they are ineligible to apply for E-visas, nor is there a consulate in Mauritius.  What I would like to know is, if we don't have Vietnam visas at the time of boarding in Singapore, would we be denied entry onto the ship?  We would be happy to remain onbaord while in Vietnamese ports if we had to.

For sailings visiting Vietnam

  • Guests visiting Vietnam will be required to apply for and receive a Vietnam Visa.
  • To see if your country is eligible to apply for the E-via, please visit  here  or if your country doesn't require a visa before joining us onboard, please visit this link  here .
  • If you are eligible to apply for the E-visa, please fill in the  Vietnam E-Visa  form no later than 2 weeks prior to sailing.
  • Please note, if your country is not listed as eligible for the E-visa, you will need to apply for your Vietnam Visa at your nearest Vietnam Embassy or consulate no later than 2 weeks prior to sailing.
  • We will not assist guests with obtaining Visa on Arrival for Vietnam.
  • For guests who apply for the E-visa/Visa, correct port name and date of entry and exit must be entered. If any of the information is incorrect, it will be considered an invalid visa and guests will not be allowed to debark. However, they are still able to sail.

Whether or not you stay on the ship is irrelevant to the fact that you have entered the country. And, for that, you must have a valid Vietnamese visa.

Surfguyxxx

This is taken from RC's website as I too am going on 2 cruises from Singapore in February 2024.  I'll be visiting 2 Vietnam countries and it states I do need a Visa and that it is our responsibility to procure one.  I've cut out some portions of the actual but you can go to their frequently asked question regarding Visas.

What should i consider when booking a cruise visiting international ports.

Given the events over the last few years, having the proper travel documents has been a considerable concern of many guests prior to enjoying a carefree vacation. Passport, visa and inoculation regulations may vary by destination and may change from time to time. For your protection, your passport expiration date needs to be at least six (6) months after the sailing termination date. It is the sole responsibility of the guest to obtain and have available when necessary the appropriate valid travel and health documents such as passports, visas, vaccination certificates, etc., that are necessary for air travel, disembarkation at the various ports of call and re-entry into the appropriate country of origin. Visa Based on nationality, many countries still require an entry visa. It is the guests' responsibility to identify and to obtain all the necessary visas before commencing their cruise.  If your sailing includes a stop in  Egypt , a visa is required for many nationalities including US and Canadian citizens, but may not be the only visa required for these sailings based on your nationality. Suggestions on where to obtain visa information :

(1) U.S. Citizens can visit the  U.S. Department of State  Foreign Entry Requirements.

(2) Canadian citizens can visit  Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.

(3) The Embassies (Consular Service Office) of each country on your sailing itinerary

(4) The visa service of your choice, such as CIBT for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees that apply to your nationality

VisaCentral a CIBT Company website:  http://www.visacentral.com/royalcaribbean   toll free telephone: 1.800.858.8579  email:  [email protected] Consecutive Sailings

Guests on consecutive sailings must ensure they have the proper travel documents for their entire cruise vacation.

For Cambodia and Vietnam

All nationalities require visas for Vietnam with the following exceptions: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

All nationalities require visas for Cambodia with the following exceptions: Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Laos. Please Note :  The following nationalities will find it extremely difficult to secure a visa for Vietnam and Cambodia, whether through us or by themselves; Pakistan, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq and Nigeria.

Check with the closest PRC embassy/consulate with a visa office (e.g., San Francisco). The website (make sure it’s the actual governmental office and not some commercial visa service). There’s a cutoff date (I can’t remember it) regarding when in the recent past (before their visa departments closed for Covid) your existing 10 year visa had to have been issued.  Fortunately, the instructions (at least on the SF website) are good.

  • 3 weeks later...

I got an email from Royal Caribbean today and they gave the info about who might need to apply for visas, and it seems pretty clear that everyone has to apply for their own (they don't do it for you).

True for China, but that is not the point of the thread.  We started in Singapore in 2017, went to Vietnam first stop 3 nights in country, the cruiseline provided the visa (which was never ever requested or looked at).  If you are flying into Vietnam I am sure that you would need the Visa.

Royal Caribbean cancels all cruises to popular destination due to gang violence

Global cruise line operator Royal Caribbean has extended its cancellation of ship stops to Labadee, Haiti, due to ongoing violence in the region, the company announced.

Royal Caribbean cruises to Labadee will be canceled until at least September, according to a report from Royal Caribbean blog . Guests who booked cruises for summer and early fall are being notified by the company of the changes. Some trips have been replaced with another port or sea day while others have been canceled and refunded.

In March, Royal Caribbean announced it would suspend visits to Labadee through the end of May.

“We have not had any security concerns; this was done out of abundance of caution,” Jonathon Fishman, director of corporate and incident communications for The Royal Caribbean Group, told the Miami Herald .

Labadee is a private beach resort located on the northern coast of Haiti, which maintains sovereignty over the 260-acre area but leased it to Royal Caribbean in 1985. The exclusive resort is fenced off from Haiti and has its own security.

Haiti, in recent months, has been overwhelmed by civil unrest and violent gangs, which has forced the closing of the country’s main international airports, burnings of police stations and prison raids. About 2,500 people were killed or injured by gang violence in Haiti from January to March, according to the United Nations Integrated Office .

Haitian Prime Minster Ariel Henry in March announced he would resign from his position as the country works to establish a transitional presidential council.

Virgin Voyages to Announce Plans for Brilliant Lady

  • April 29, 2024

Brilliant Lady

Virgin Voyages is preparing to announce plans for its forthcoming ship, the Brilliant Lady. The 2,770-guest vessel was delivered to the company earlier this year but has remained out of service in Europe.

Now, Virgin appears ready to disclose more details about Brilliant’s inaugural season and future deployment.

In its social media profiles and main website, the company recently published teaser videos that promise “something brilliant coming.”

Virgin Voyages said that the announcement will include “epic news,” as well as new ports. The video also shows silhouettes of destinations landmarks across North America, including Seattle’s Space Needle, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Sign and New York City’s Statue of Liberty.

The news will be unveiled on May 1, 2024, during a live transmission on Virgin Voyages’ website.

Built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the Brilliant Lady is the fourth vessel in the company’s Lady Ship series.

Initially scheduled to debut in late 2023, the 140,000-ton cruise ship had its inaugural season canceled in September .

At the time, the company stated that unexpected construction, supply chain and staffing challenges led to the decision.

“We want to make sure that when the ship launches, we can deliver the standards our Sailors have come to expect from an award-winning brand like Virgin Voyages,” the company added.

A new launch date was not immediately determined, and the vessel has remained out of service in Italy since its delivery.

With three ships currently in service, Virgin Voyages offers year-round itineraries in the Caribbean and seasonal programs in the Mediterranean.

After cancelling its upcoming winter season in Australia, the company also revealed plans to return to Northern Europe in August with a series of cruises departing from the United Kingdom onboard the Resilient Lady.

The company offers an adults-only product designed to provide “the intimate and elevated experience of a boutique hotel at sea.”
