Always had great service from Cathy and her crew at David's House of Travel. Many successful trips. Recently she was very helpful through all of our Covid Related cancelations. Having had a big trip booked to Europe and having to cancel was very stressful. So glad we had such a professional on board to help us through all the hoops of getting a refund. Can't tell you how nice it was to have someone on your side to get through to direct contacts. When we are ready to travel again, going right back to David's House! You should too!

- Kandice K. March 22, 2019, 7:14 pm Alyssa was absolutely fabulous! I needed the airline tickets, shuttle to and from the airport, and a car. I had initially provided her with incorrect travel dates which resulted in extra work for her. Only to find out the rates for everything were better with the incorrect dates. So, after she did the work to set everything up for the dates I originally wanted, I changed my mind to travel on the incorrect dates I had given her in the first place. She was so patient with me. I highly recommend h er and David's House of Travel. This is not the only vacation they have helped me with. My past experiences have been just as great. Made my trips much less stressful. Thank you Alyssa! … – show 0 0 Reply

- Company's official reply December 18, 2017, 11:06 pm Karen — our apologies for the delayed reply — we just became aware of this posting. We felt a need to address this situation on this site. As you are aware everything was taken care of over that weekend after family members were able to reach several of us via Facebook. This ticket was booked with a tour consolidator to obtain a lower price for your mother. China Eastern had a FIVE minute schedule change and because of a recent “China Eastern Policy Change” the ticket was to be reissued — wh ich is not a normal procedure when the AIRLINE changes the flight time. Your international air carrier (United) who this ticket was issued on and the air consolidator — were also not aware of this policy. China Eastern did have the money for your Mother's Ticket all along — they never looked at the history of her reservation. We were able to work with the consolidator, United Airlines and China Eastern and your Mother was able to return the next day. … – show 0 0 Reply

Spring travel season is in full bloom for Alaskans looking to travel in state
A pod of orcas swim in Agnes Cove on the Aialik Peninsula in Kenai Fjords National Park on Sunday, May 16, 2021. (Loren Holmes / ADN)
Although the summertime cruise season officially started last week in Southeast Alaska, it’s a little early here on the Railbelt between Seward and Fairbanks. There’s still plenty of snow, and the tripod on the Nenana River is still standing tall.
Even so, spring specials are popping up all over for Alaskans who cannot wait to go exploring. Just be sure to bring your hat, some gloves and an extra jacket. Or two.
The sightseeing cruises in Seward started up last month. It’s always fun to sail in Resurrection Bay when the snow comes right down to the water. Watch for the critters on the shore and in the water, including the big gray whales and an occasional orca. Bring binoculars so you can see the otters and porpoises up close.
Kenai Fjords Tours offers cruises Thursday-Sunday, departing at noon. The four-hour Resurrection Bay cruises are available through May 16 for as little as $116 per adult. Kids under 12 years old sail free when accompanied by a paying adult (one free child per adult). Lunch is included (chicken burrito).
Major Marine Tours cruises seven days a week during the spring — and offers 25% off a hotel/cruise package through the end of April.
The cruise, which departs at 12:30 p.m. each day, costs $109 per adult. Hotel accommodations at the Harbor 360 are $169 per night, before the discount, port charges, fuel surcharge and local sales tax.
After everything is added on and the discount is applied, the cost for two adults to go on the cruise and stay overnight is $328.64, or $164.32 per person. I didn’t add up the cost for the kids, which is $54.50 per child (ages 2-11).
If you plan your cruise in May or early June (through June 15), Major Marine offers 20% off a hotel/cruise combo at the Gateway Hotel.

Overnight visitors have more time to see the Alaska SeaLife Center. Alaska residents typically can save about $5 off the cost of admission, from $25 to $30 per adult. Admission for kids who live here costs about $15. It’s important to book your tickets online, since the SeaLife Center offers staggered admission.
Alaska residents can trim 30% off the nightly rate at Alyeska Resort. Whether you’re going to ski or soak at the new Nordic Spa, the resort is well-situated. I plugged in some midweek dates to get the best rate: about $228 per room with the discount applied.
[ Here’s what I learned as a frequent flyer on my most recent trip ]
Up in Talkeetna, the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge sits on a bluff overlooking the runway and downtown Talkeetna. It’s got the best view of Denali for miles around. For a couple of years now, the lodge started opening in March for springtime travelers.
Between now and May 5, the lodge offers a 30% discount. Use the promo code “SPRING” when making reservations online at talkeetnalodge.com .

If you love the idea of cruising on the big ships, even when it’s a little chilly outside, there are some great spring rates departing Seward.
Nate Vallier with the Alaska Travel Desk in Juneau is a big cruise fan. He found some particularly good early-season specials, including:
1. Sail on the Norwegian Jewel on April 22 to Vancouver, B.C., in an inside cabin for $199 per person (based on double occupancy). In this case, the port taxes and fees cost more than the cruise: $301 per person. Still, $500 for a seven-day cruise through the Inside Passage is a good deal.
2. Get an outside cabin on the Jewel sailing on May 6 from Seward. The cost is a little more: $309 per person, plus $301 per person for taxes and fees, or $610 total per person, based on two people sharing a cabin.
3. If you want a balcony, Vallier recommends the Celebrity Summit, sailing from Seward on May 17. The cost is $399 per person, plus $383 in taxes and fees, or $782 per person, all in. Vallier picked this particular date because it’s much less than the other sailing dates on the Summit.
All of these cruises end in Vancouver, B.C. Travelers must have a passport. Travelers in May can fly back on Air Canada’s nonstop flight to Anchorage, starting on May 14. Early birds in April can fly via Seattle.
For a more intimate experience on a smaller ship, consider Alaskan Dream Cruises, which sails from Juneau and Sitka on seven- or eight-day itineraries through the Inside Passage.
Cruises between May 12 and June 14 are 49% off for Alaska residents, using the discount code “49FOR49″. You have to call for reservations, since the special prices are not listed on the website: 855-747-8100.
Still, you can check out the itineraries online at alaskandreamcruises.com .
The northern end of Wrangell is shown on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024. (AP Photo/Becky Bohrer)
Setting sail with between 40 and 80 passengers, these vessels go where the big ships can’t. One of the earliest cruises on the Alaskan Dream sails into Glacier Bay and calls in Kake, Wrangell, Petersburg and Pelican. With the discount applied, rates start at $2,497 per person, double.
The “Last Frontier Adventure” on either the Admiralty Dream or the Chichagof Dream is a seven-night itinerary that’s a little different, including a visit to the Fords Terror Wilderness area near Tracy Arm. There are four departures between May 18 and June 14, starting at $2,038 per person, double.
There are several itineraries from which to choose, but the Alaska resident pricing details are not available on the website.
Whether you want to hang out in a lodge or cruise on a boat, the spring travel season is in full bloom.

ICYMI: Davids Hosts Bipartisan Policymakers for Farm Tour, Discussion on Boosting Kansas’ Agriculture Economy
Recently, Representative Sharice Davids hosted U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small, Former Kansas Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam, and other policymakers from both parties to discuss the successes and challenges of Kansas’ farmers and producers. The group toured a local farm, held a discussion and press conference with regional agriculture professionals, and ate a lunch of locally sourced food.
Along with Torres Small, Roberts, and Beam, Davids was joined by former Representatives Collin Peterson (MN-07), Chair of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, and Jim Slattery (KS-02). Throughout the day, the need to overcome partisan gridlock and pass a bipartisan Farm Bill reauthorization was consistently highlighted.
Davids’ efforts to support Kansas’ agriculture economy made headlines across Kansas:
Kansas Reflector: “Davids, Roberts anxious about Washington gridlock inhibiting development of new farm bill”
“Democratic U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids and former Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts share bipartisan angst about political gridlock impeding progress on a new five-year farm bill outlining federal programs in agriculture, conservation, nutrition and trade.
‘You can see that the economy and the future of our state is so tied up on how well our farmers and producers in the ag sector are doing,’ said Davids, who serves the five-county 3rd District. ‘The farm bill is not a partisan issue. I’ll continue working to pass a bipartisan farm bill this year.’
She said after touring a Johnson County farm and taking part in a roundtable discussion on agriculture that the tradition of the House and Senate taking a bipartisan approach to the farm bill was being challenged by combative politicians in Washington, D.C.
‘I was honored to be joined by so many agriculture professionals and policymakers from both parties as we work to ensure Kansas producers have the support needed to thrive,’ Davids said.
[Roberts] said serving as agriculture committee chairman during work on four farm bills taught him lawmakers — urban and rural, conservative and liberal — had to set aside differences and reach across the aisle.
‘We know the most important thing when you get down to it is to get a bill passed to provide farmers certainty and predictability,’ Roberts said. ‘That is the most important question you have with the farm bill. Unfortunately, that is not the most important question we see today in the House of Representatives.’”
FOX4 Kansas City:
“Congresswoman Sharice Davids promises to get a Farm Bill across the finish line in DC for Kansas and she talked with local Kansas farmers and agriculture officials. The work on the Farm Bill has stretched out for nearly a year.
‘It’s not just this piece of paper. It’s actually a critical piece of legislation and lifeline for our farmers.’
Former Kansas Senator Pat Roberts was at Congresswoman Davids’ roundtable. He blamed a group of lawmakers who are part of the Freedom Caucus for delaying the Farm Bill.
‘That’s not the House that House that I represented for many years, or, for that matter, the Senate. And it is very troubling to me.’”
KFRM News: “U.S. Representative Sharice Davids Hosts Agriculture Roundtable In Kansas: Discusses Farm Bill And Support For Local Farmers”
“On Wednesday, March 27th, U.S. Representative Sharice Davids hosted a roundtable discussion in Olathe about the accomplishments and challenges farmers and producers face in Kansas.
‘When I get the chance to talk to folks — first of all, the Farm Bill is a must pass piece of legislation … and a bunch of those programs, things like crop insurance, things like the programs for cover crops … those are the kinds of programs that have a lifeline because of the Farm Bill.’
Rep. Davids said that she is optimistic that the Farm Bill will pass.
‘If it takes longer than it needs to, I wouldn’t look at it as a Farm Bill not passing. I would look at it as, if absolutely necessary, we will extend so that we can continue the negotiations. But we will get a Farm Bill done.’
Rep. Davids said she wants people to know the work is getting done, and that she is focused on supporting Kansas resources.”
The Gardner News: “US Rep. Davids visits local farm, hosts policymakers for Farm Bill discussion”
The future of farming in Kansas was the center of the conversation March 27.
Davids said the day had been fun and informative, and Finley Farms was a ‘prime’ example of a small, thriving agriculture business.
‘Kansas farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our nation, providing food and resources to folks here at home and around the world,’ she said.
U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small said it was through investment that the Finley family was able to look at the best and most efficient way to grow their crops and ‘be able to pass that farm on for generations.’
‘We know we succeed when we invest in farmers and rural communities,’ she said.
Former Senator Pat Roberts said a six generation farm is unusual. ‘And probably the most serious question we have is where is the next generation of farmers going to come from,’ he said. ‘Finley Farms has that answer so our hats off to them.’
‘You can see the economy and the future of our State is so tied up into how well our farmers and producers in the Ag sector are doing,’ she said. Davids said they need to get to the root of the issues folks are facing and addressing the most pressing challenges.
Davids said the Farm Bill is not a partisan issue. ‘It’s a common sense solution to lower grocery costs and safeguard our food supply, create good-paying jobs in rural American and sustain Kansas’ agricultural heritage for generations to come,’ she said.
Roberts said Davids is doing a great job and sitting on the wagon tongue listening to her constituents.
‘Farmers never put their seed in the ground if he or she didn’t have optimism that they wouldn’t have a crop,’ he said. Roberts said, however, this year was different. ‘This is different from 2018,’ he said. ‘Always before the Ag Committee would come out with a bi-partisan agreement.’
Roberts said the most important thing is to get a bill passed; especially the Farm Bill. ‘To provide farmers certainty and predictability,’ he said. ‘That is the most important question you have with the Farm Bill. Unfortunately, that is not the most important question we see today in the House of Representatives. The stars in our constellation are much different from the ones that we are today.’
Roberts said he ‘chalks up’ the bill’s gridlock issues to ideology and partisanship.
Roberts said Davids had been a ‘jewel’ with all her hard work trying to bring everyone together. In return, Davids said Roberts had been an invaluable resource for her and her team.
Davids said everyone needs to do everything they can to make sure politics ‘doesn’t hinder’ the ability to help and support farmers access essential resources for daily decision making, business operations and putting food on their tables. ‘Because they are putting food on everyone else’s table,’ she said.
Davids said she views her role as 3rd District Representative as representing everyone.
‘I think of this role as being of collaboration and listening and trying to support with federal resources where I can,’ she said.”
Kansas City Star Politics:
“Former Sen. Pat Roberts had some stern words for the Republican House Freedom caucus at a press conference urging the passage of the Farm Bill. Roberts, who was invited to speak by Rep. Sharice Davids, said ‘ideologues’ in the House were preventing Congress from doing its business, like reauthorizing the Farm Bill to give farmers some stability.
‘If you’re an ideologue, they’re right, you’re wrong, and no amount of talking or reasonable conversation or whatever is going to bring them to the table,’ Roberts said. ‘That’s what we’re faced with. Quite frankly, the Republican Party in the House of Representatives is in danger of losing their majority, due to this kind of performance or non-performance. And they’re not doing their constituents any favors.’
Roberts commended Davids for listening to farmers and urged bipartisan passage of the farm bill, which may be unlikely to happen before the end of the year.”
White House says Kamala Harris will travel to Arizona after state Supreme Court abortion ban ruling
Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Arizona on Friday, the White House announced Tuesday, shortly after the state Supreme Court upheld a near-total abortion ban .
Harris will travel to Tucson, the White House said in an advisory, "to continue her leadership in the fight for reproductive freedoms." It noted that it will be the vice president's second trip to Arizona this year and her fifth time since being sworn in.
"Last month, the Vice President visited Phoenix, AZ to highlight how extremists in states across the country have proposed and enacted abortion bans that threaten women’s health, force them to travel out of state to receive care, and criminalize doctors," the White House said.
The White House said that the trip was part of Harris' nationwide "Fight for Reproductive Freedoms" tour "that included stops in Wisconsin, California, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, and Minnesota."
Since the Supreme Court's ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, Harris has held more than 80 events on reproductive rights in 20 states, the White House added.
The announcement about her upcoming trip came just about an hour after the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that a 160-year-old near-total abortion ban still on the books in the state could be enforced. Under the law from 1864, anyone who performs the procedure or helps a woman access that care could face felony charges and up to two to five years in prison. The law — which was codified in 1901, and again in 1913 — includes an exception to save the woman’s life.
President Joe Biden, Harris and Democrats in general are hoping that existing abortion bans and threats to expand them nationwide will help them win their races in this November's general election.

U.S. House speaker negotiating with White House to advance Ukraine aid
Mike Johnson is set to travel to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club to meet with him and has been consulting him in recent weeks on the Ukraine funding to gain his support – or at least prevent him from openly opposing the package.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson is negotiating with the White House as he prepares for the treacherous task of advancing wartime funding for Ukraine and Israel through the House, a top House Republican said Thursday.

House Republican Leader Steve Scalise told reporters that Johnson had been talking with White House officials about a package that would deviate from the Senate’s $95 billion foreign security package and include several Republican demands. It comes after Johnson has delayed for months on advancing aid that would provide desperately needed ammunition and weaponry for Kyiv, trying to find the right time to advance a package that will be a painful political lift.
“There’s been no agreement reached,” Scalise said. “Obviously there would have to be an agreement reached not just with the White House, but with our own members.”
Johnson, R-La., is being stretched between a Republican conference deeply divided in its support for Ukraine, as well as two presidential contenders at odds over the U.S.’s posture towards the rest of the world. President Biden has repeatedly chastised Republicans for not helping Ukraine, saying they are doing the bidding of Russian President Vladimir Putin and hurting U.S. security. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican candidate, has said he would negotiate an end to the conflict as he tries to push the U.S. to a more isolationist stance.
The Republican speaker is set to travel to the former president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida on Friday to meet with Trump and has been consulting him in recent weeks on the Ukraine funding to gain his support – or at least prevent him from openly opposing the package.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, an Oklahoma Republican who often works closely with House lawmakers, said this week he and Trump have spoken with Johnson “in-depth” about how to advance Ukraine aid. It is not clear whether Trump would lend any political support, but Mullin said he was hoping to get the former president behind the package, especially now that Johnson’s job is at stake. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, has threatened to try to oust Johnson as speaker and warned that advancing funding for Ukraine would help build her case that GOP lawmakers should select a new speaker.
Meanwhile, Johnson has been in conversations with the White House about legislation that would structure some of the funding for Kyiv as loans, pave the way for the U.S. to tap frozen Russian central bank assets and include other policy changes.
Johnson has also been pushing for the Biden administration to lift a pause on approvals for Liquefied Natural Gas exports. At times, he has also demanded policy changes at the U.S. border with Mexico.
“This becomes a more dangerous world with Russia in Kyiv,” said Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican who supports aiding Ukraine. “So we’ve just got to find a smart way to get a bill passed that we can get out and back to the Senate.”
Still, Johnson is facing a practically open rebellion from a group of hardline House conservatives who are dissatisfied with the way he has led the House. With a narrow and divided majority, Johnson has been forced to work with Democrats to advance practically any major legislation.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Thursday that the “only path forward” for the House was a vote on the Senate’s national security package. He also suggested that Democrats would help Johnson hold onto the speaker’s gavel if he did so. Advertisement
While Democrats have pressured Johnson to put the Senate package to a vote, they also may be divided on a vote as a growing number oppose sending Israel offensive weaponry while it engages in a campaign in Gaza that has killed thousands of civilians.
The Biden administration, which would administer any military funding, has issued stern warnings to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that future U.S. support depends on the swift implementation of new steps to protect civilians and aid workers.
“If we want to prevent handing Putin a victory in Europe, the House should do the right thing for democracy and pass the Senate’s aid package now,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Thursday in a floor speech.
Associated Press writer Lisa Mascaro contributed.

Costco's New Shed Doubles As a Backyard Retreat—And It's on Major Sale Right Now

Yardline Upton 12’ x 24’ Wood Shed
Admittedly, simply reading the word "shed" might conjure visions of craft stations and tools as far as the eye can see, but this Yardline structure can be so much more. It features a 96-inch set of double doors that are 48-inches wide, and three operable windows that can be placed however you'd like. This pick even comes with an optional floor, so it can turn into an extra play area for your kids or as a fitness studio if you love to workout. Thanks to its generous 12-foot-by-24-foot floor plan, too, this structure is incredibly roomy.
The Yardline Upton Wood Shed is comprised of pre-cut pieces, so it can be a DIY project. However, if you're looking to ease off the elbow grease, you can also pay to have it installed on your behalf. That's exactly what Laura Lamb of Costco Hot Finds did—and she shared her experience with this on Instagram. "That’s what we chose and they had it done in one day." she captioned her IG Reel . "I can’t say enough good things about their incredible team, too."
It turns out, we're not the only ones who are intrigued by this shed: Lambs' IG followers are equally smitten. "Millennials and Gen Z, this our shot at home ownership," one viewer wrote. "This shed is amazing. I can’t say enough positive things about it. The options for its use are numerous," a second commented. Meanwhile, several people were musing about what they 'd do with the shed, throwing around ideas like turning it into an office, an in-law studio, or a home gym. "Man, I’m going to live in there," one person said.
There is one caveat to this product: The Yardline Upton Wood Shed is on sale, but it's by no means cheap. While flooring and professional installation cost an additional fee, pricing for this structure is $5,000—yes, that's with the discount. But when you think about how much extending an area of your house can cost, this shed is a worthy alternative.
