16 Top-Rated Attractions & Things to Do in Hua Hin

Hua Hin may have started as a sleepy beach town, but today it has grown into a vibrant city by the sea. Two and a half hours south of Thailand's capital, Bangkok (and another world away), this small-town-turned-tourist hot spot is an exciting beach, dining, and shopping destination right on the Gulf of Thailand.

Hua Hin Beach

Before this small town of 60,000 people became a tourists' favorite, it was best known for being home to Klaikangwon Palace, the summer residence of one of Thailand's former kings back in the 1920s. Today, it's the perfect getaway to some of the country's best national parks and quietest beaches.

If you're thinking of stopping by here when visiting Thailand , plan your sightseeing with our list of the top attractions and things to do in Hua Hin.

1. Dip Your Toes in the Sand of Hua Hin Beach

2. feel like royalty at maruekhathaiyawan palace, 3. pick up souvenirs at the hua hin night market, 4. escape to khao takiab hill and beach, 5. keep shopping into the night at cicada market, 6. step into a world of illusions at for art's sake, 7. transport yourself to a different world at santorini park, 8. shop the world at the venezia hua hin, 9. get wet at black mountain water park, 10. take a day trip to kaeng drachan national park and pala-u waterfall, 11. walk through the pranburi mangrove forest, 12. escape to sam roi yot freshwater marsh, 13. shop at the sam pan nam floating market, 14. browse the galleries at hua hin artists village (baan sillapin), 15. shop even more at bluport hua hin, 16. dine alfresco at tamarind market, where to stay in hua hin for sightseeing, map of attractions & things to do in hua hin.

Hua Hin Beach

Most people who come to this sleepy town come here for the beach. While other beach towns in Thailand are all about the nightlife, Hua Hin is a much quieter destination where you can truly lie down on the beach for hours of peaceful sun-worshipping.

Hua Hin's beach stretches for four kilometers --and while it might not be the largest or the whitest in Thailand, it makes up for it by being great for swimming , offering lots of family-friendly things to do ( kitesurfing and banana boat rides included), and always having deckchairs and umbrellas available for rent. Beach vendors selling refreshments and local souvenirs and crafts are often around (without being pushy) in case you need to stock up on goods without walking too far.

Maruekhathaiyawan Palace

Built for King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) as a summer retreat in the 1920s, Maruekhathaiyawan Palace is constructed entirely of teak wood and sits right on the beach.

The clever design of the palace – which sits on pillars and is made up of several sections connected by long covered corridors – allows for perfect air circulation and keeps the place cool in the hot and humid Thai afternoons. There's even a corridor leading straight to the beach and the Queen's former bathing pavilion.

The King's living chambers are partially furnished with some of his original possessions. His study, where the king composed poetry when staying here, overlooks the ocean and houses his beloved desk and writing materials.

Visitors can also explore the manicured gardens surrounding the palace or enjoy a picnic on the grass.

Handicrafts for sale at the Hua Hin Night Market

No matter how much upscale shopping you do in Thailand, nothing beats the authentic feel of a local night market – a chance to soak up the atmosphere and experience real Thai market culture. Night markets often have no rhyme or reason in Thailand, and Hua Hin's night market is no exception. Here, you'll find arts and crafts next to cheap snacks (don't be too shocked at the deep-fried insect snacks for sale) and stalls offering apparel.

Because Hua Hin's night market also attracts tourists, you'll find your share of stalls selling cheap souvenirs and beachwear, but also lots of street vendors selling authentic ware and fare for everyday life, Buddhist tokens, and traditional Thai crafts. Address: Petchkasem Road near 74 Street, Hua Hin

Khao Takiab Hill

Khao Takiab hill offers access to a quiet stretch of beach and impressive views over Hua Hin from up top. Some of the best seafood restaurants in town are located in this area, as well as some of the most colorful Buddhist temples you'll find in Hua Hin.

Khao Takiab temple, better known to locals as " Monkey Mountain ," is home to hundreds of wild macaques-a fun experience as long as you hang on to your bags and phone, since they have become quite good at stealing things from tourists.

Cicada Market at night

An open-air weekend market that's all about arts and crafts , Cicada is popular with both Thai and foreign tourists and is particularly lively once the sun goes down. The market is divided into four sections that include decorative home items and fashion for sale, an art gallery, a massive outdoor food court, and an area dedicated to live music and shows featuring bands, dance groups, unique pantomime performances, and live DJs.

What makes Cicada different from other night markets is definitely its style. You won't find cheap plastic souvenirs here, but instead a lot of handmade items, original paintings and sculptures, contemporary art displays, and even artists working on glass blowing and live sketching. And while there's a lot of cool things you can take home and many chances for artsy retail therapy at Cicada, the focus doesn't fall heavily on shopping either because of the many opportunities to chill out and just enjoy the surroundings.

Bonus points for the market being near the beach, so you can catch the cool salty breeze in a hot evening out.

For Art's Sake

Thailand's first 4D Art Museum is a must-see for all ages. A quirky collection of fun murals painted by Thai artists, art installations, and sculptures, these are truly living images. Place yourself in the right spot, take a photo, and voila – you're automatically part of a 3D image where piano stairs come to life, you can jump into the mouth of a shark, and monsters almost get you in the Horror Zone. The 4D element is provided through music and sound effects that make each museum zone even more unique.

Santorini Park

Just 15 minutes away in the neighboring town of Cha Am is Santorini Park, a themed shopping and attraction village that looks exactly like the name suggests. You might not get the sweeping views here of the ocean that you would at the real Santorini, but otherwise, Santorini Park does a very good job of bringing a picture-perfect Greek island to Hua Hin.

Rows of whitewashed buildings line up the stone-paved streets, winding around cafes, shops, and souvenir stores. There's even an outdoor performance space and a small amusement park here, complete with a Ferris wheel, a carousel, and a number of climbing and adrenaline rides for both kids and adults.

Address: Phetkasem Road (198 kilometer post)

Venezia Hua Hin

Thailand seems to have mastered the art of building themed shopping centers, where shops aren't the main attraction but instead just blend in with the incredible scenery. If visiting Santorini got you inspired and yearning for European lands, this place makes perfect sense as your next stop.

The Venezia is an impressive mini replica of magical Venice , complete with a reproduction of the San Marco's bell tower; a 200-meter-long canal (Gondolas included) that cuts through the shopping center; and plenty of attractions-including mini train rides; a 3D museum; and many photo opportunities around every corner.

While The Venezia is technically a shopping center, stores aren't the main attraction here. Still, you'll find plenty of local and international brands, as well as a chance to pick up some high-end local souvenirs.

Floating in a Thai water park

The beach might be just a few steps away, but that doesn't mean visitors should skip a visit to Hua Hin's water park when in town. With nine slides (including an impressive 17-meter-high vertical slide tower with a heart-stopping straight double-drop) and six pools , Black Mountain has something for everybody.

Lounge around in the lazy river , try the giant pool especially dedicated to water games, or jump into the largest wave pool in Thailand-then have a bite or grab a beach chair for some relaxing time in the shade.

Pala-U Waterfall

The largest national park in Thailand simply can't be explored in one day, so if that's all you have, you might want to start at Pala-U waterfall. Located near the border with Burma and about 1.5 hours from Hua Hin , the waterfall consists of 16 levels and is one of the highest in Thailand. Don't expect to climb it to the top, though. Anything beyond the third level requires an arduous trek meant only for expert hikers and climbers.

Still, you don't need to go beyond the third level to enjoy the magic here. Cool water, deep pools surrounded by a 1,000-year-old forest, and thousands of butterflies are just a little glimpse of what you'll find when you get to the falls. Keep your eyes open for lots of wildlife as well, including gibbons and rare birds.

Want to extend the trip? There are no accommodations available inside the park itself aside from two very rustic campgrounds, but you can overnight at Kaeng Krachan Town, just minutes away. Come back the next day for bird-watching and cave exploring – or hire a park ranger to take you deeper into the rainforest, where trails are trickier to find but wildlife is richer, and you might catch a glimpse of wild elephants, boars, and even leopards.

Wooden walkway through the Pranburi Mangrove Forest

Twenty kilometers from Hua Hin and reachable by car or song-taew (an open, multi-passenger truck taxi), Pranburi Forest Park is home to the largest mangrove forest in Thailand . The highlight here is the two raised wooden boardwalks that twist and turn through thick mangrove growths, over the Pranburi River and all the way to the ocean-all along the way offering peeks of wildlife and even a small fishing village.

Once you're done walking the wooden trails, head to the park's pine-lined beach, just steps away. Because few tourists know about the park, chances are you'll have the beach all to yourself. This is a perfect day trip if you want to see some awe-inspiring scenery and escape the heat of town.

Location: Pak Nam Pran (Pranburi)

Sam Roi Yot Freshwater Marsh

Thailand's largest freshwater marsh is located within Sam Roi National Park-a massive marine national park worth a visit on its own if you have the time to spare. The park is about 60 kilometers from Hua Hin and is home to massive caves, limestone islands, and over 300 different species of migratory birds.

If you can only visit one section of the park, however, the marsh-which is surrounded by limestone peaks and covered in lotuses-should be it. A wooden boardwalk extends across the marsh and leads to seven roofed pavilions that offer breaks from the heat and a chance to appreciate the mirror-like views in the distance. There's a great observation tower for bird-watchers at the entrance of the park, but you'll have a much better chance to see rare birds, such as purple swamphen and spoon-billed sandpipers, up close when walking through the marsh.

Lighthouse replica at the Sam Pan Nam Floating Market

Hua Hin actually has two floating markets. The Hua Hin Floating Market , older and smaller, offers plenty of shopping opportunities, both as you travel around the market in a traditional boat or walk on the long wooden boardwalks that connect the shops. The newer Sam Pan Nam Floating Market offers plenty of shopping, too, with an impressive 200 shops, as well as plenty of boat vendors traveling the man-made lake and canals to offer their fare.

But Sam Pan Nam is also an entertainment venue. There's a miniature train, daily music and cultural shows, and plenty of "Instagram corners" – moored traditional fishing boats you can jump on for a picture, colorful benches, themed restaurants, and more.

If you've been to Plearn Wan, you'll find a similarity in the design: early 20th century-style buildings with traditional shophouses reminiscent of the King Rama VI period. While you can easily come here just for the fun merchandise and photo opportunities, the market also offers boat tours, mouthwatering treats, and a great way to discover what the old Hua Hin would have been like.

Entrance to the Hua Hin Artists Village

Located just a few miles from the energetic beaches is the quiet, tranquil oasis that is Hua Hin Artists Village, also known as Baan Sillapin. One of the original arts centers in Hua Hin, this vibrant collective sits shrouded in beautiful green plants, perched on the edge of a small canal.

The space includes several large galleries of art and antiques, as well as actual artists' studios, where projects are constantly being dreamt up and actualized. Classrooms are available for those who want to take painting and sculpture classes, and a beautiful art-decked café serves delicious coffees and pastries.

Hua Hin Artists Village

The community goes back more than two decades. The land was donated to a well-known local artist who was tasked with promoting art to the community. More than 20 other artists have joined the commune, and today showcase everything from painting and carving to masks, stonework, jewelry, and more.

Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall

Hua Hin is not short on shopping opportunities, but one of the newest to hit the beach town is the Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall. The latest in luxury shopping, the massive mall is one of the best places to beat the heat in Hua Hin.

The mall has more than 1,000 different labels spanning fashion and beauty, as well as technology and dining. In fact, the Bluport Food Hall is a sprawling space serving cuisine from all over the world. You'll also find a Gourmet Market and standalone restaurants.

This is the department store in Hua Hin for fashion, as well as beauty treatments like haircuts, nail appointments, and a spa.

Address: 8 89 Petchkasem Rd, Nong Kae, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan 77110

Tamarind Market

Hua Hin's food scene heats up on weekends with the addition of the new Tamarind Market. Right beside the popular Cicada Market, this night market opens on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays just a few blocks back from the beach.

Here, visitors will find more than a dozen stalls selling everything from local Thai dishes, like rich, fragrant Pad Thai, to wood-fired pizzas, sushi, Wagyu burgers, and more. A stage in the market plays host to a rotating calendar of live bands.

Prices here are certainly higher than at more resident-friendly night markets, but this is certainly an energetic and beloved place to grab a filling (and gourmet-level) meal, enjoy outdoor entertainment, and catch up with friends.

12. Alisa Massage

There are a million and two massage places in Hua Hin, like almost anywhere in Thailand, and I’ve been to a ton of them, but very few meet the quality of massage I received at Alisa Massage, located at Soi Thipphayakan, Hua Hin, Prachuap Kriri Khan, 77110. The ladies here put in the work.  Massages, which ranged around $4 for an hour, same for a foot massage and facial , and each of them was amazing!   How their hands didn’t hurt after they finished with me, I’ll never know, but after 6 days of Muay Thai/boxing a week, my body needed this!

Alisa Massage

These ladies were amazing and while the place isn’t the fanciest by any means, the kindness of the women and the quality of the massages were excellent!  So, definitely make sure you pop in and get a rub-down.

Thailand’s original beach resort is no palm-fringed castaway island and arguably is the better for it. Instead, Hua Hin (หัวหิน) is a refreshing mix of city and sea with lively markets, good golf courses and water parks, excellent accommodation and an ambience that just keeps getting more cosmopolitan. In fact, many visitors never even step foot on the sand.

24 Things To Do in Hua Hin –Our Top Picks

View Of Hua Hin From Khao Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint

Hua Hin is about beaches, eating out, drinking at bars, massages and enjoying relaxation in the tropical heat as much as any other Thailand destination. However, we all need a little bit of something to do in between chilling out, and others like to see what’s going on and check out the attractions to see things and points of interest.

The rather scenic Hua Hin can be found by heading south-west out of Thailand’s capital. The distance between the two locations can be covered in little more than a couple of hours or so, which makes this entire region a particularly desirable and peaceful inland holiday destination for Bangkokians.

It’s true that many visitors to Thailand often overlook Hua Hin’s key features and character, preferring instead to head for the tried-and-tested southern beach regions like Phuket, Phang Na, and Samui. And anyway, Hua Hin’s quite reserved by comparison in some respects.

Certainly, there are some lovely stretches of beach and a few great characteristics like monkey temples on mountains and white sandy beaches. There is much more to be seen and experienced in this rather nice seaside town in Thailand as well though, and it holds particular appeal and charm for anyone wishing to avoid too much chaos or nightlife.

Let’s see if we can dig a bit deeper into that with 24 things to do in Hua Hin.

1. Hua Hin Beach

Hua Hin beach is considered the main stretch running past the central parts of the town. For the most part the beach is relatively white and sandy-looking, although there have been increasing complaints from locals over recent years regarding an increase of litter and other waste.

Quiet Area Of Hua Hin Beach With Not Many People

To be sure, this is not close to the exotic tropical scenery of the southern isles with its white beaches and clear azure waters. For many though, it’s good enough for a weekend or a few days away from the city.

The main entrance is closest to Damnoen Kasem Road, which is typically lined with taxis, vendors, etc, and plenty of activity. If you’d rather bypass that, head further north and be met with scenarios more along the lines of wide open space.

From this central stretch of beach, it’s possible to get to some much more scenic ones in either direction, like Khao Takiab and Suan Son.

— Beach Length: Approximately 7km

— Address: Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan

2. Khao Takiab Beach

Khao Takiab Beach is a relatively quiet and slightly more exclusive stretch of beach on the southern end of the town. It is in fact next to Suan Son Pradipat Beach, and the sand is clean and white with water suitable for paddling and swimming.

Suan Son Pradipat Beach In Hua Hin Facing The Small Mountain

This side of the town and coast is quite peaceful and relatively natural, although there are resorts, hotels, and restaurants. Visitors will still find various activities to indulge in such as horse riding and jet skiing.

One of the best things about Khao Takiab Beach is the  giant Buddha image at the foot of the big hill/mountain that the beach name comes from, although in translated terms it is also known as Chopstick Hill.

— Beach Length: Approximately 1.5km

— Distance from Hua Hin centre: 7km

— Additional costs: Activities like pony rides

— Address: South of Hua Hin Beach

3. Chopstick Hill (Khao Takiab) & Wat Khao Takiab

Khao Takiab–translated as “Chopstick Hill” is a fairly unique local temple scenario–in this case Wat Khao Takiab located atop the hill that also happens to be home to more than just the odd monkey.

Khao Takiab Chopsticks Hill Hua Hin

This is a fully-functioning temple inhabited by monks who are a familiar sight around the area collecting alms and rendering blessings in the early morning. Both the hill and the temple are visible from the centre of Hua Hin and some impressive views are available from this vantage point.

Steps At Wat Khao Takiab Temple In Hua Hin

There are various signs warning visitors of the potential hazards of encountering the resident monkeys. These typically go unobserved until first-hand experience hits home–like the monkeys leaping into your open car window and stealing something or even whisking away a can of soda off the top!

— Opening times: 6am-6pm

— Address: Nong Kae, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan

— Distance from Hua Hin centre: Approximately 7km

4. Vana Nava Water Jungle

Vana Nava Water Jungle is a great water park with a variety of thrilling rides for all ages. It claims to be the first ecologically aware community water park in the area and it comprises 20 rai of tropical jungle scenarios combined with state-of-the-art technology and modern facilities.

Birds Eye View Of Vana Nava Water Jungle In Hua Hin In The Province Of Prachuap Khiri Khan In Thailand

The park features more than 20 attractions including signature rides and thrill-seeker slides, as well as Thailand’s first ‘Underwater Studio’. Vana Nava Hua Hin is definitely a touch above the average water park and some of the standout attractions have names like the Abyss, Master Blaster, and Free Fall, which can make for an exhilarating experience.

The all-inclusive ticket option is probably one of the best options as the prices onsite are fairly high including the use of towels and storage. One of the oft-reported downsides is that the food is expensive inside the park, but it’s still an overall great place for some fun water activities.

The Santorini Park, At Cha-Am Ferris Wheel And Slides

7. Maruekhathaiyawan Palace

Maruekhathaiyawan Palace is located somewhere between Hua Hin and neighbouring resort town Cha-Am.

Mrigadayavan Palace In Thailand Near Cha Am And Hua Hin In Thailand

This unique structure apparently came about when a Thai King decided to demolish another of his buildings further south. It was decided that the teak wood from this place would be used to construct a new palace–and so it was–on pillars facing east across the sea towards the Cha-Am district.

The architecture and style were attributed to both the king and one Ercole Manfredi–an Italian architect hired to complete existing design ideas. In many ways the style  is completely unique among other Thai palaces, particularly of that period.

— Opening times: 8.30am-4.30pm except Wed

— Distance from Hua Hin centre: Approximately 10 km

— Additional costs: Small admission fee of around 10 baht with various concessions

Wat Khao Sanam Chai Temple And View Of Hua Hin In Thailand

Wat Huay Mongkol With A Monument Of The Monk Luang Pu Thuat In City Of Hua Hin Thailand,

The statue is approximately 12 metres high and 10 metres wide, and visible from far away. Visitors to the temple can get close to the image by climbing the wide stairways leading up to it.  This is a very peaceful and serene spot overall although it can be crowded on some weekends and Thai public holidays.

The temple is popular with natives who can be seen walking in circles under the belly of the elephants next to the statue to ensure good luck. The entire surrounding environment of the temple has the feel of a park to it and features a lake, waterfalls & streams, pavilions and other shaded areas, and even restaurants.

— Opening times: 6am-9pm

With some peaks in the park reaching elevations close to 600 metres, the national park features attractions such as the well-known Phraya Nakhon Cave but there are plenty of other places worth checking out too.

Open year-round, unfortunately the park subjects foreigners to the risible four-times-higher Thai dual pricing on the entrance fees. Tickets are day-purchase, but there are still extra fees for boat trips etc within the park.

Picture Of A Scene At For Art's Sake In Hua Hin Thailand

The facility is divided in several zones, each with its own theme featuring scenarios like local beaches, Hua Hin railway station, and the monkeys up at Khao Takiab.

There’s plenty of abstract stuff too featuring Ferraris, UFOs, magic tricks, and Tibetan monks meditating and levitating. There’s a scary zone featuring invading zombies, skeletons, and monsters making a grab for you, and lots of other abstract, virtual reality-type imagery going on here.

— Opening times: 9am-6pm

This is a small market established along the water in traditional style. It is home to a variety of local shops selling reasonably cheap clothes, accessories, and other items, as well as a couple of restaurants.

The Water At Sam Phan Nam Floating Market Hua Hin Thailand

Unfortunately foreigners seem to be the only entrants subjected to an entrance fee to the market, which has brought in its fair share of criticism in reviews. If this is your first visit to Thailand the market may be the type of place that adds to the cultural experience, although it doesn’t compare with famous floating markets in other areas.

Hua Hin Railway Station Sign

That might seem hard to believe when you find out that Hua Hin Train Station has only two tracks and platforms, and still has much of its original, albeit re-vamped, early 1900s-style decor, architecture, and character.

The station is close enough to the centre of town and the main tourist areas to make it worth a visit. And just in front of the station you might notice a couple of old train carriages that have been adapted as part of the community library and are thus full of books.

Soi Bintabaht In Hua Hin

There are other side streets leading off from the main soi and featuring similar bars or restaurants. The street is overall quite low-key compared to similar areas in other regions, and there is enough diversity in the bars and eateries to suit pretty much everyone.

— Address: Soi Bintabaht, Hua Hin, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan 77110

— Distance from Hua Hin centre: Very central

Hua Hin Attractions And Things To Do (Itinerary)

First of all, you can easily access Hua Hin via Thailand Train , a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur (Air Asia), 3 hours bus ride from Bangkok or if you’re on two wheels, just ride there!

I didn’t have the time to see Hua Hin whilst I was on my 6 Nation’s Borders Ride last year but hey!  I have now covered a lot of places (at least most) in my recent trip to Hua Hin.

I’ll break down the places that I’ve been in Hua Hin’s region as per the map below so it would be easier for you to plan your trip. Hopefully, this will be helpful.

hua hin attractions region map

The Northern Region

Mrigadayavan Palace –  is a former residence of His Majesty King Vajiravudh or Rama VI who ruled Siam from 1910 to 1925. The palace is now a property of the Crown Property Bureau and is under the management of The Foundation of Mrigadayavan Palace under the patronage of Princess Bejaratana (FMP), the only daughter of Vajiravudh. The entry fee is THB 30 and you will need to dress properly. i.e. no skirts/shorts. Google Map Location

hua hin attractions - Mrigadayavan Palace

Swiss Sheep Farm – Small animal farm, but good enough for you to spend 1 to 2 hours walking around, taking photos, relax village feeling. The entrance fee is THB 150 for adults. Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Swiss Sheep Farm

Santorini Park – It is a good (tourist) shopping place with good architecture like in Santorini, Greece. All colours are in white combination with blue, pink and green. Good place for those who love taking pictures. There are also some games that you can play.  The entrance fee is THB 150 and it comes with 1 free game. Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Santorini Park

Camel Republic – It’s a mini zoo with a fairly small theme park. Great place for kids to enjoy feeding food to giraffes, camels, birds and other animals. They also have some activities for teenagers in their theme park which teens would have enjoyed. The entrance fee is THB 150. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Camel Republic

The Central Region (City)

Hua Hin Railway Station –  A must-visit if you’re in Hua Hin. It was built back in the reign of King Rama VI, the architecture of this station is beautiful and it is also one of the oldest train stations in Thailand. It’s located in the centre of town, the ticketing counter opens 24/7 and their staff speaks good English. No entrance fee (free). Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Railway Station

Hua Hin Night Market – The best market in Hua Hin. You will finish your day there by buying some local products, eating cheap food and don’t miss the massage, especially the foot massage. There is a nice train pub next with bands. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Night Market

Hua Hin Beach – Nice beach and rarely very crowded. Even on weekends, It has a long stretch for a great walk and you’ll have loads of space. Restaurants + Sun-loungers if you want them and kite surfing are all here. The horse/pony ride is at THB 300 (15-20 minutes).  Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Hua Hin Beach

Mercado de Plearnwan – A place ideal to visit in the evening. Colourful lighting, varieties of food & snacks. You can do the shopping for some stuff as well. Parking is available and there is no entrance fee. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Mercado de Plearnwan

Cicada Market – Great laid-back market, with a festive atmosphere. Good selection of varied crafts, together with reasonably priced food selection (using a coupon system). A few of the food stalls were happy to make vegetarian versions (e.g. pad Thai). The live music was also nice. The atmosphere is much more relaxed than the night market, and unlike most markets, there was plenty of room and places to sit. Opens only Fridays & Weekends. There is no entrance fee. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Cicada Market

Oasis Bar at Seen Space – Wonderful seaside walk and shopping mall. Plenty of good shops, cafes and restaurants. There is also a good beach bar which provides free use of the infinity pool next to the beach. Truly a relaxing place and a good place for photography. Google Map Location .

The Eastern Region

Wat Huay Mongkol – This Buddhist temple is home to the world’s largest statue of Luang Phor Thuad, a legendary southern Thai monk revered for his enlightenment and ability to perform miracles. Many believe that the amulets created in his image guarantee safety in times of distress. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Wat Huay Mongkol

The Southern Region

Phraya Nakhon Cave – is part of the Sam Roi Yot National park. It’s an a mazing cave with an iconic view of the Thai pavilion surrounded by cave walls and sunlight from above. When you reach here, you have two options you can either take a boat ride (THB 400 per boat for a return trip with a max of 6 pax) or you can skip the 1.5 KM walk and start trekking to the cave for 430M or Just do the 2KM walk + trekking to the cave. I would suggest that you go early morning when the crowd is less and it’s not hot. The entrance fee is THB 200 which not only covers this cave but other places within the Sam Roi Yot National park. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Phraya Nakhon Cave

Khao Daeng View Point – is part of the Sam Roi Yot National park.  I personally found this the best part of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park because there were fewer people here so I really felt like I had the entire area to myself. That being said, this is NOT an easy hike because the paths are steep and made up of large rocks, so do not go for anything less than a proper pair of shoes with a good grip. Nonetheless, it is truly a rewarding experience at the end upon reaching the top.  You can use the same ticket that you bought for Phraya Nakhon cave here.  Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Khao Daeng View Point

Buang Bua Wood Boardwalk – is part of the Sam Roi Yot National park.  It is quite breathtaking and unusual. Beautiful wetlands with a wooden walkway. Spectacular mountains in the nearby background. Serene nature with birds, fish, and fresh air, away from the city, traffic and noise. You can use the same ticket that you bought for Phraya Nakhon cave here. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Buang Hua Wood boardwalk

Below are some other places to go in Hua Hin. Honestly, I haven’t been to these places as I was not interested (just me) but it may just suit you.

Pala-U Waterfall ( Hua Hin – Eastern Region) –  Approximately 1-hour drive from Hua Hin city centre and it seems to be a good place for refreshing nature in a quiet place. Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Pa-La-U Waterfall

Wat Khao Takiap   ( H ua Hin – Central Region) is a Buddhist temple on a hill. You can get a nice Hua Hin city & beach view from the top hill but just beware of the monkeys. Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Wat (temple) Khao Takiap

Vana Nava Water Park ( Hua Hin – Central Region) The name says it all. You can have great fun at the water park here. Good positive reviews online and the entrance fee is said to be THB 1000 bath for adults and THB 600 for kids. Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Vana Nava Water Park

Market Village Hua Hin ( Hua Hin – Central Region) Large and beautiful mall with a lot of variety in outlets, there’s a big supermarket in the back, also a food court, and of course the usual fast-food outlets (McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC etc). Google Map Location .

hua hin attractions - Hua Hin Market Village Mall

Venezia Hua Hin ( Hua Hin – Central Region) The Venezia is a small type of theme park trying to replicate the town of Venice in Italy. The cost for entry to all rides and features is THB 480. Google Map Location.

hua hin attractions - Venezia Hua Hin

That’s a wrap for my trip to Hua Hin. I would suggest that you spend 4 to 5 days (at least) and breakdown down the places that you want to visit based on regions, i.e. North, South, East etc. This will ensure you don’t go back and forth on the same route twice.

How to get to Hua Hin

There are numerous ways to get to Hua Hin from Bangkok. The most common options are train, bus, or private car.

The train is a long yet scenic route, taking a minimum of four hours from Bangkok Railway Station. Tickets are priced according to carriage, with second-class starting at 400 baht and a third-class seat at only 44 baht.

The bus takes anywhere from three to five hours depending on the traffic, but is the cheapest option. Buses depart directly from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, making it incredibly convenient as well. If you’re already in downtown Bangkok, you can catch a bus from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai).

Lastly, a taxi or private transfer is an option to keep your journey as comfortable as possible and get you straight to your accommodation. Expect to pay anywhere between 3,000 and 5,000 baht, depending on the company.

What to expect in Hua Hin

Throughout Thailand, the currency used is Thai baht . The conversion rate often fluctuates slightly, but for reference, 1 USD is about 30 baht and 1 AUD is currently closer to 20 baht. With prices so affordable, you won’t ever need to worry about exact conversions. Keeping these rough conversions in mind, however, will help you be able to understand the cost of things on the spot.

Although the official language is Thai, many locals working in tourist hotspots and popular restaurants are able to speak basic English with you.

There are almost always English translations on menus and signs, for example, so the language barrier won’t be too difficult to navigate. Thailand is the land of smiles, so simply approach anyone with a friendly attitude and communication will be easy!

How to get around Hua Hin

Get the most out of your experience in Hua Hin and explore on foot as much as possible. Walking allows you to stop and head into any new spot that catches your eye.

When you’re visiting an attraction that’s a little too far to walk to, hail a tuk tuk or a songthaew. These big (usually red) trucks in Hua Hin follow four regular routes yet have no specific stops, so simply wave one down and hop in the back.

If you’re eager for some air conditioning, take a taxi instead. Grab, the Uber of Southeast Asia, will become your best friend. You can easily use the Grab app to book a taxi in advance and see how far away a driver is. Just like Uber, you can pay in-app using your credit card, so you won’t need to worry about carrying extra cash with you.

Tuk Tuk Taxi of Thailand are parking for wait a tourist passenger at Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station,Tuk Tuk is the name of Thai traditional taxi.

The best time to visit Hua Hin

Although Hua Hin has warm weather all year round, there are certain months that will be much better for a beach holiday. October and November are the rainiest months of the year, so you might want to avoid them.

December and January are also packed with fellow tourists, so if you’re hoping for a quieter getaway, visit anytime between February and September instead.

Things to do in Hua Hin

Although Hua Hin is a relatively small coastal area, there’s much more to do than lay by the beach all day. Here are some of the best things to do and places to see while in Hua Hin:

Cicada Market

Anyone who has been to Thailand before knows that it’s all about the night markets! Cicada Market is Hua Hin’s most popular outdoor market.

At Cicada, there’s a focus on art and decor, with vendors selling a variety of eye-catching handmade goods. Of course, there’s also a range of mouthwatering foods to sample! Dig into some of the best Thai street food followed by a Western fusion dessert.

The atmosphere is absolutely mesmerizing and makes the market an unmissable experience. With vibrant lighting installations and live entertainment, your senses will never be bored here.

Cicada Market is held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from four o’clock until 11, so you are free to spend your time slowly wandering and taking it all in.

Mrigadayavan Palace

As mentioned earlier, the Thai royal family embraced Hua Hin and had many summer vacation spots constructed in the area. 12 kilometres north of Hua Hin in Cha-am is Mrigadayavan Palace . This former holiday villa was once the residence of Rama VI, the country’s ruler from 1910 to 1925.

The palace is built atop concrete pillars and made up of three groups of 16 teak wood buildings. Set within luscious green gardens overlooking the sea, it is undoubtedly one of the most peaceful tourist attractions you’ll come across.

Venezia Hua Hin

Not making it to Venice, Italy any time soon? Go with the next best thing and visit Hua Hin’s Venice-themed village. The main attraction here is the small canal with a charming bridge where you can go on a gondola ride for a few hundred baht.

There are a ton of restaurants and shops too, as well as a miniature train, so you can easily spend hours here.

It’s a fantastic spot to take some romantic photos or even bring the kids to. Don’t miss the colourful umbrella laneway and eclectic statues, some of which replicate ones you’ll find in Venice.

HUA HIN, THAILAND - : This is Venezia village a shopping village and tourist attraction which was made to look like Venice in Hua Hin

Hua Hin Beach

Of course, visiting Hua Hin Beach should be a top priority. The four-kilometre stretch of white sand is never too crowded, so you can always find a peaceful spot to settle in and relax for a while in the sunshine.

In addition to swimming, popular activities include windsurfing, kitesurfing and parasailing. There are plenty of restaurants by the shoreline, and vendors along the beach can offer you anything from umbrellas and deck chairs to ice creams and massages!

The ultimate spot to experience Hua Hin nightlife is around Soi Bintabaht near the Hilton Resort.

There isn’t the same party scene that you can find in Bangkok or Pattaya, but there are a couple of great bars and pubs to enjoy a drink at.

Stop by Hua Hin Beer Garden for a relaxed atmosphere and some live music, or Aladdin Bar for a game of pool. Blue Monkey gets lively if that’s more your style, and there are a range of delicious cocktails on offer.

Wat Huay Mongkol

The most-visited Buddhist temple in the area is Wat Huay Mongkol , which is about 15 kilometres away from central Hua Hin. The complex contains the world’s largest statue of the famous Thai monk Luang Phor Thuad.

Next to the monk are wooden elephant statues, which locals walk under while wishing for good luck. Near the main temple is a peaceful lake and garden with a small artificial waterfall, as well as several Thai restaurants.

What to eat in Hua Hin

If you haven’t eaten much Thai food before, you’re in for a treat! One of the best experiences in Thailand is simply sampling all of the street food, so be sure to taste something new and interesting during your trip. Here are some delicious local dishes you need to try while in Hua Hin:

  • Mango sticky rice: A beloved dessert to enjoy after lunch or dinner, or as a snack whenever you feel like! Made with, you guessed it, sliced mango and sticky rice, the coconut milk dressing makes it a super sweet treat.
  • Pad see ew: One of Thailand’s favourite street food dishes, made with large flat noodles and a dark soy sauce. Enjoy with chicken or as a vegetarian meal.
  • Tom kha gai: A creamy coconut soup with chicken. A good option if you’d prefer milder spices.
  • Pak boong: Better known as morning glory, this bean-spinach vegetable dish is prepared with soybean paste, soy sauce, chilli and garlic. It’s ideal to share if you want to add some extra greens to your meal.
  • Penang curry: The mildest of Thailand’s curry dishes is a favourite with tourists. Order with your meat of choice or with tofu and vegetables. Enjoy with a side of soft brown rice.
  • Kai jeow: Eat your breakfast the Southeast Asian way with a Thai omelette. Served on rice with sweet chilli sauce, you can also add some vegetables if you like by ordering kai jeow pak .

Where to stay in Hua Hin

Your money goes a long way here, and you can find some gorgeous, luxurious places to stay at for affordable prices. Not sure where to stay in Hua Hin? Here are a few recommendations you’ll absolutely love:

Kiang Haad Beach Hua Hin is one of the best value Hua Hin hotels. Reasonably priced, comfortable, clean, and right by the beach – what more could you ask for? Take advantage of the two pools and gaze out over the views from the balcony.

The property is less than two kilometres from the Hua Hin Night Market and the Hua Hin Railway Station, and only 200 metres from the Hua Hin Market Village. Book any double or twin room for under 100 AUD, or upgrade to a suite with a spa bath.

For those sticking to a budget, modest luxury can still be found at First Choice Suites by the Sea . Each self-serviced apartment is modern, spacious and well-furnished, coming with everything you’ll need during your stay.

The rooms show off stunning views of the nearby mountains and gardens. Suites are between 40 to 50 AUD per night, and two-bedroom apartments are just under 100 AUD. This is a truly great choice if you’re travelling with a group of friends or family.

Have a different experience entirely at the Korawan Garden View . Located a few kilometres outside of the main town, the property is quiet and peaceful, allowing you to embrace nature without the noise and light pollution.

For less than 40 AUD per night, you can stay in a surprisingly modern bamboo hut made from eco-friendly materials. The bungalows and cottages all surround a beautiful outdoor pool with lounge chairs. You’ll never want to leave this serene oasis!

Tours to do in Hua Hin

Since Thailand is so well known for its food, you won’t want to miss the Foodie Tour of Hua Hin . Over three and a half hours, you can feast on over a dozen different snacks and desserts.

This insider’s perspective will help you break through the sometimes daunting culinary options and give you a chance to taste some flavours you’d never normally try.

Another enjoyable tour to do in Hua Hin is a half-day bicycle trip around the city . See the best landmarks and temples, as well as the historic Rajabhakti Park.

Along the way, you can stop for photos and gain an insight into each attraction through the interesting stories told by your guide.

A highlight of the tour is reaching Khao Takiab Temple, which features a 20-metre-tall golden Buddha statue looking out over the ocean.

Khao Takiab temple on Khao Takiab mountain (also known as Monkey mountain or Chopstick mountain), Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand

Day trips from Hua Hin

Once you’ve seen the best of Hua Hin, don’t forget to venture out to the areas nearby. Hua Hin’s location along the Gulf coast is an ideal starting off point to explore both the countryside and the islands off the coast.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is one of the best places you can go for a day trip . Only 40 kilometres from central Hua Hin, you can spend most of the time exploring rather than being stuck in a car. If your time is limited, you can book a tour and see the area in only five hours.

Here you must visit Phraya Nakhon Cave, one of the most mystical attractions in Thailand. Reaching the cave requires a steep climb, but you will be wonderfully rewarded for your efforts. On the guided tour, you can even learn about pineapple and coconut harvesting as you pass through the plantations.

A longer tour that’s worth going on is a nine-hour trip to Pala-U Waterfall . While you’ll get to see and swim around the beautiful waterfall, this tour offers so much more.

See the gorgeous butterflies the area is known for and learn about the local flora and fauna. Best of all, you can visit the Karang Village and learn about traditional Burmese ways of life.

To spend the day island hopping, go snorkelling on Tatu Island or book a cruise to Monkey Island.

As you head along the scenic Pranburi River, keep an eye out for the playful dolphins before you stop to meet the cheeky monkeys. Swim and even fish along the coast, and enjoy a complimentary buffet lunch.

Cicada Market is an artist's paradise. A Long Weekend in Hua Hin: What to Do & Where to Stay

Located approximately a 3-4 hour's drive south of Bangkok (200 km), Hua Hin is a pretty seaside town on the Gulf of Thailand.

It boasts a five-mile long beach, and the highest density of world class golf courses in Thailand.

A historic fishing town that neighbors the also popular Cha-am, Hua Hin long been a favorite getaway place for Thai high-society, with businessmen and movie stars escaping the intensity of the city for a weekend of fresh air and relaxation.

Hua Hin is perhaps most famous for Klai Kangwon Palace (meaning Far From Worries), which was built in 1928 by King Rama VII . The Palace remains an official royal residence. Notably, King Rama 9 stayed there from 2002-2006.

Hua Hin has a reputation for being sleepy, largely because there isn't much to the center of town, and there really isn't much going on after 9pm.

But it's that place you can book last minute, that getaway you can plan on a Friday night and leave Saturday morning, and that trip that forces you to relax. Don't expect amazing beaches, but pick the right hotel and you'll have a lovely stay.

hua hin

No, I didn't stick a TTL sticker on there before someone reports me!

What's the Weather Like?

The weather in Hua Hin remains warm to hot throughout the year, with only small variations in temperature.

There is a much greater variation in the amount of rain. The average is 4.1mm in January and slightly over 200mm in October and November.

For me , the best time to visit is in December through February. At this time temperatures are warm and the chance of rain is low.

The hottest time to visit is between April and May, with temperatures around 34° Celsius

The monsoon season arrives in May. Rains then ease from June to August. The heaviest rains begin in September and continue through November.

What's the Beach Like in Hua Hin?

hua hin beach

My brother and I trudging slowly over wet sand. The main stretch of Hua Hin beach is very wide.

If you’re looking for an out of town beach getaway for a couple of days then หัวหิน (the Thai spelling) is perfect.

It's not the best beach in Thailand, I must admit, but it's a decent option for a Bangkok getaway.

Parts of the beach are really long and wide, making it perfect for long walks and kids to play.

If you hire a car, Cha-Am is only 20 km down the road, which has a worthwhile beach offering various water sports and delicious Thai street food.

Cha'am beach is popular with locals and Thai tourists, but if you want the authentic Thai beach experience, this is it: chilling, eating, talking, playing games and NOT going in the sun until after 4pm!

Hua Hin beach isn’t a tropical looking beach as such – it lacks the coconut trees and marine blue water – but it's openness and decent views across the bay make it worth the visit.

The main appeal of the beach is that it tends to be much quieter than the popular beaches down south.

One thing that does annoy me about the main beach is the donkey/horse riding in high season. This is generally confined to one area of the beach, though.

There are  jellyfish  in the sea all year round but they tend not to come too close to shore until the rainy  season , probably due to the direction of the sea currents and tides.

Occasionally the water here suffers from an influx of jellyfish, but this is generally not a problem until rainy season when the current and tides are affected by the weather. Paddling here is fine outside of the rainy season, and your hotel / signs will warn you if there's a jellyfish problem.

5 Things to Do in Hua Hin

Other than strolling along the beach and visiting the popular night market, there are a number of activities you can consider for the family.

1. Sea Cruise to Khao Sam Roi Yot

Like all tourist destinations in Thailand, Hua Hin offers the usual Thai massage and spa places, cooking courses, trekking, cycling, diving, snorkeling, and water sports. But for something a little different, check out the sea cruises to Sam Roi Yod National Park.

Khao Sam Roi Yot is a marine national park that covers 98 km, of which 20 km are marine areas. The park was established in 1966 and was the first coastal national park of Thailand.

Also the year England won the world cup! (Sorry, I had to get that in).

2. Kiteboarding

In recent years, Hua Hin has become a popular destination for kite-boarders. People flock from far and wide to catch the coastal winds, which on some days are quite strong given how open the area is.

Of course, this is largely a seasonal activity in the windier months, but if you like a thrill, you might want to check out this wind map.

There's lessons available for tourists, with all the kit provided.

3. Hua Hin Railway Station

Hua Hin boasts Thailand's most famous railway station, which dates back to the 1920s. It's a lovely site to visit and well worth the photo opportunity. It's easily walkable from anywhere in town.

I wouldn’t recommend catching a train though,  as the schedule seems somewhat relaxed (Thai style) – it was four hours behind when I enquired about the next train!

hua hin train station

Worth seeing but not waiting for a train!

4. Kaeng Krachan

I recommend a visit to Kaeng Krachan National Park and climb the waterfalls. The layers seem to go on indefinitely but I believe there are 16.

Make sure you take a big bottle of water though, or you might struggle on the way down without a drink, as I did in the soaring heat.

You can also bathe in the pools and just hang out there.

It's a fair drive from Hua Hin, so get a taxi if you haven't got a car. You could do the journey on a moped but it would be a fair old trip.

Kaeng Krachan National Park

In hot season there isn't much water flowing over the rocks.

5. Wat Huay Mongkol

You really shouldn't leave without visiting this temple   either.   It   was home to the immensely popular monk Luang Pu Thuat, who was famous for performing miracles.

The beautiful Wat Huay Mongkol houses the largest statue of Luang Phor Thuat in Thailand, situated in a park-like setting. Seriously, you won't believe how big this is!

Luang-Phor-Thuat

6. Cicada Market

Lastly, for more shopping check out the charming Cicada Market.

This is a delightful weekend market is nestled under huge, old trees and offers contemporary art, handicrafts and general cool stuff. Besides the crafts market, you’ll also find an art gallery, beer garden and live music.

  • Opening Hours : 16:00-23:00 (Friday, Saturday), 16:00-22:00 (Sunday)

Nightlife in Hua Hin

Hua Hin is pretty quiet after dark, which suits the type of holiday you'll have here.

Don't get me wrong, there are bars and clubs to be found, and even karaokes and naughty massage spots. But the vibe isn't anywhere near as energetic as Bangkok, Pattaya, Patong or Chaweng.

The majority of visitors spend their evenings down at the Hua Hin Night Market, which, even though it says shuts at 1AM, is, in my experience, dying down by 9pm.

The market is a lot smaller than the night markets you'll find in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but it's got the traditional vibe and has everything you'd expect, including restaurants, clothing stalls, handicrafts and souvenirs.

Even if you aren't up for filling your suitcase full of stuff you don't need, it's cool to just have a stroll, try some Thai treats and soak up the atmosphere.

If you want a night cap once you've had a meal and bought a Hua Hin t-shirt, you'll need to head over to the “Farang area” behind the Hilton Hotel.

Or, if you want the Walking Street Bars (girly), head over to Soi Bintabaht, which isn't far. In fact, pretty much all the nightlife is walkable from the Hilton Hotel.

If you want something a little classier than the “lady bars” I suggest heading for a drink at the Lotus Sky Bar, housed at the top of the Hua Hin Hilton Hotel – the view is incredible!

Hua Hin isn't really for the party animal and the pace is pretty slow, but its beauty is that it's “different”. And that's one thing I've come to love about Thailand: every corner of the Kingdom has something unique to offer, be it tradition, food or architecture.

How to Get to Hua Hin

Hua Hin railway station is part of the southern rail route that starts in Bangkok.

Trains run all day and night between the cities. Don't expect to arrive or leave on time.

There are buses direct from Bangkok to Hua Hin, and those that make numerous stops on the way. Pay extra and go direct. This will take about 7 hours.

Catch a minivan for approximately 200 Baht from Bangkok. The journey takes about 4 hours.

If you can afford it, I advise a private minivan, which will cost around 3,000 Baht each way.

The shared minivan may be a bit squashed and may do some drop-offs along the way that delay you.

Flights to Hua Hin from Bangkok still haven't resumed and it doesn't look like they will any time soon.

3 Superb Hotel Recommendations for Hua Hin

Each time I've been to Hua Hin I've stayed in different hotels. Below are three of my top picks:

1. Chalelarn Hotel

This small hotel is close to the city centre.

It's a good choice for one or two people but I wouldn't recommend it if you have kids.

The rooms are average in size but wonderfully decorated in authentic Thai style. There are rooftop views of the coast and city and a small pool on top of the hotel.

The breakfast is average and the dining room small, but it's central, very clean and 5-minutes walk from the beach. It's pleasant and means you don't need transport into town.

2. Sheraton Resort & Spa

This hotel is simply amazing.

If you want a real family treat that the kids will love, this is worth every penny.

You can lie on a lounger and stare out to sea, as the hotel backs onto a stretch of beach.

The pool is huge and the grounds are lovely.

The swimming pool flows around the hotel and is accessible from all pool-facing rooms.

The breakfast spread is to die for, and you can stuff some bits in your bag to cover lunch too.

Spa treatments are available on site, and they have a great gym and a kids clubs too – which my daughter loved.

3. Asara Villa & Suite

The Asara rivals the Sheraton.  Like the Sheraton, it's on the outskirts of town, though a little closer in than the Sheraton.

It too is situated on the beach, and also has a massive pool.

There are three restaurants to choose from on-site, and a bunch of workshops you can do like yoga and cooking.

Massage treatments and spa are also available.

The rooms are bigger at the Asara, but the pool and the breakfast at the Sheraton are epic.

Both hotels offer a mini-van into town and back in the evening. And you can book the minivan for the daytime too.

Hua Hin, in Summary

If you fancy getting out of the bustle of Bangkok for a few days, or want a long weekend doing nothing in a nice hotel with your partner, Hua Hin is a lovely seaside escape.

The beach gets better and wider towards the town, but don't expect it to be tropical island-like.

The sea is good for water-sports and paddling, but for swimming you might be better to go up to Cha-am. My advice is pick a hotel like the Sheraton or Asara and swim there, and when you fancy a walk on the beach just step out the back of the hotel.

The Hilton Hotel is also worth looking at, but it's usually very busy.

Hua Hin is perfect for a relaxing short break. Chilling, walking, shopping in the markets, eating, and dipping in the pool should be your main plans. Three or four days is perfect.

The town closes early, except the bars down near the Hilton, so don't centre your holiday around nightlife.

My advice: Treat yourself to a top hotel with great facilities, chill all day and take the free shuttle into town and back in the evening.

10 Things To Do In Hua Hin & Cha-Am In Thailand On A 4D3N Trip

Guest Writer

When it comes to travelling to Thailand, the first place you will probably think of is Bangkok. It’s not surprising that the capital, with its myriad of food choices and cheap shopping, is one of Singaporeans’ favourite travel destinations.

But why not leave the city behind and visit the lesser-known Hua Hin and Cha-am instead? These districts may not be as bustling as Bangkok but there are still plenty of things worth checking out.

Hua Hin And Cha Am

To get to Hua Hin from Bangkok and vice versa, you can get a bus ticket from Bell Travel Service at approximately THB 419 per pax, which allows you to bring one small personal bag and a luggage.

When you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, head to the airport bus station and wait for your coach. Be punctual because the coach departs on the dot.

You will then be brought to Hua Hin Bus Station (located within Hua Hin Town Centre) after a three-hour drive, before changing to a shared van. The van typically drives passengers to their respective hotels within Hua Hin, so you will be conveniently dropped off at the entrance of your hotel too.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 2

During my trip, I stayed at the City Beach Resort Hotel, which was a clean, convenient and comfortable three-star hotel.

I recommend that you stay within Hua Hin Town Centre because some attractions are located within the vicinity, that is easily accessible by foot. Here are 10 things you can do on a 4D3N trip to Hua Hin and Cha-am :

— Day 1 —

1. appreciate art at cicada night market.

Online Hua Hin And Cha Am 3

If you are in Hua Hin on a Friday or a weekend, you should not miss the Cicada Night Market , a popular art market in this district. You can get there by taxi if you want to arrange transport on your own. Otherwise, many hotels can help you book a private charter.

Cicada Night Market is an excellent spot for arty farty tourists to buy handcrafted goods and souvenirs or check out paintings and sketches in the art gallery. As it is also a platform for local art groups to showcase their talents, they have regular live shows to entertain the crowd. Be sure to show your support for these creative groups while you are there!

Cicada Night Market: Ban Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand 77110 | Opening Hours: (Fri to Sun) 4pm – 11pm | Facebook

— Day 2 —

2. take insta-worthy photos at santorini park.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 4

Cha-am is only a 20-minute drive from Hua Hin but public transportation is not widely available there. Many of the tourists who visit Cha-am either drive or organise their own private charter.

It’s really worth a visit because of a few out-of-the-norm activities that you can do, like visit the beautiful Santorini Park . I recommend booking a private charter through your hotel or in advance.

Prior to our trip, my partner booked a tour through Ms Na Hua Hin Taxi Service (you can email [email protected] ) for THB1,800  (total price for an eight-hour service) after negotiation, so that the driver could also bring us to several locations that are further away. Do note that this price does not include tipping the driver at the end of the service.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 3

Santorini Park in Cha-am is a theme park modelled after Santorini in Greece, and it is the perfect place for people who love taking Insta-worthy shots. So arm yourself with a camera and start exploring!

Admission to the park costs THB150  per pax and comes with one free ride ticket. Many of the rides are quite kiddy so the best ride to go for if you are an adult is the Ferris Wheel. As the park is not very big, you only need to allocate around two to three hours to visit this place.

One tip: Aim to visit the park just when it opens at 9am (on weekends) or 10am (on weekdays) because the crowd starts streaming in between 11am and 12pm – you do not want photobombers in your photos.

Admission Fees: THB150 per pax

Santorini Park: Amphoe Cha-Am, Phetchaburi, Thailand 76120 | Tel: +66 32 772 999 | Opening Hours: (Mon to Fri) 10am – 7pm, (Sat & Sun) 9am – 7pm |  Facebook

3. Feed Adorable Sheep At Swiss Sheep Farm

Hua Hin And Cha Am 5

Right next to Santorini Park is Swiss Sheep Farm , another Instagrammable place that’s home to adorable farm animals. If you are a parent looking for a place to bring your kids, Swiss Sheep Farm is definitely worth visiting.

Even though the farm is located across the road from Santorini Park, the main entrance is located far off so it is best to get your driver to get you there.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 16

Admission fees are THB150 baht  per pax and include one session of sheep feeding. There are other animals to interact with too; you can take photos at the Swan Lake, ride ponies and feed bunny rabbits as well!

Swiss Sheep Farm: Petchkasem Road, Cha-am 76120, Thailand | Tel: +66 32 772 495 | Opening Hours: (Daily) 9am – 7pm | Facebook

4. Get A Bird’s Eye View Of Hua Hin At Khao Hin Lek Fai View Point

Online Hua Hin And Cha Am 18

If you’re not already weary from all the photo-taking by this point, you can get your driver to drive you to Khao Hin Lek Fai View Point in Hua Hin on your return journey.

This place offers a splendid bird’s eye view of Hua Hin and will make you feel on top of the world! If you can catch the sunset at the same time, it will be so romantic.

There are several viewpoints around the hill and to get there, visitors can drive, bike or even climb the hill. The hill is rather steep though so driving will be the most manageable option. Sometimes there are also random monkey sightings, so do keep a lookout for them.

Khao Hin Lek Fai View Point: Prachuap Khiri Khan, 77110, Thailand | Opening Hours: (Daily) 6am – 8pm

— Day 3 —

5. trek to phraya nakhon cave.

Online Hua Hin And Cha Am 6

Who’s up for some exercise on a holiday? For the adventurer, you should visit the Phraya Nakhon Cave , especially if you have time and energy to spare. Located within the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, the journey to the cave offers a picturesque view of mountains, forest and beaches.

Similarly, you can get a private charter to drive you to the carpark of Bang Pu Village. From there, you can either climb across a hill (30-minute journey) or take a boat ride to Laem Sala Beach for a fee of THB150  per pax.

From the beach, you can then walk up a hill towards the cave. It may be quite a journey where you will need to walk a lot, but rest assured that the trek is worth your time and experience. Keep your programme light during Day 3 since you might feel exhausted from all the walking – there are plenty of massage parlours and spas within Hua Hin Town Centre which you can check out after.

Admission Fees: THB200 per pax (to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park)

Phraya Nakhon Cave: Amphoe Sam Roi Yot, Chang Wat Prachuap Khiri Khan 77120, Thailand | Opening Hours: (Daily) 8am – 4pm

6. Get Your Street Food Fix At Hua Hin Night Market

Hua Hin And Cha Am 7

If you are staying within Hua Hin Town Centre, it’s only a 10- to 15-minute walk to Hua Hin Night Market to get your Thai street food fix.

You’ll find plenty of stalls selling skewered meat, Thai snacks and desserts, such as mango sticky rice, coconut ice-cream and crepes.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 8

We found this delicious dish called Rotee, which was basically bite-sized pieces of roti prata drizzled in sauce – highly recommended!

There are also retail shops if you want to go on a shopping spree, with prices that are generally low. Unlike Bangkok, the stall owners are less pushy and typically do not allow bargaining unless you buy in bulk.

Hua Hin Night Market: Soi Dechanuchit, Hua Hin 77110, Thailand | Opening Hours: (Daily) 6pm – 11pm

7. Buy Handcrafted Souvenirs At Chatsila Night Market

Hua Hin And Cha Am 9

Connected to Hua Hin Night Market is Chatsila Night Market , an indoor market that sells trendy souvenirs. This place had a ‘Bugis Street’ vibe and was undoubtedly popular with tourists.

The items sold in Chatsila Night Market were on the pricier side, but they were of better quality, particularly the handcrafted goods.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 14

While you are there, look out for all the artistic wall murals which feature the various landmarks and icons in Hua Hin, and pose for some photos!

Chatsila Night Market: Hua Hin District, 77110, Thailand | Opening Hours: (Daily) 5pm – 11pm

— Day 4 —

8. catch the sunrise at hua hin beach.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 10

Since Hua Hin is a beach town, you cannot leave without checking out the beach. Fortunately, Hua Hin Beach is only around a five- to 10-minute walk from Hua Hin Town Centre so you should definitely drop by.

The sun rises really early in Hua Hin (it started around 5.58am when we were there), so if you do not mind starting your day super early, Hua Hin Beach is an awesome place for an amazing view. Stay on after to soak in all the beach vibes!

Besides suntanning or taking lazy strolls along the sandy beach, you can also participate in water sports such as jet skiing and banana boating for a fee. There’s even a horseback riding experience along the beach which would make for great memories.

Hua Hin Beach: Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand

9. Visit The Historic Hua Hin Railway Station

Hua Hin And Cha Am 11

Another must-visit place in Hua Hin is the iconic Hua Hin Railway Station that combines both Eastern and Western architecture. In the early days when there was no road access to Hua Hin, the railway station was built to facilitate travel to Hua Hin from Bangkok.

Now, it has become a popular tourist destination within walking distance from the centre and you will often spot people taking pictures along the railway tracks. The trains are still functioning though, so do be careful!

If you’re up for it, you can enjoy a four-hour train ride from Bangkok to Hua Hin as an alternative mode of transport.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 17

There’s also a Hua Hin Coffee Station next to the railway station where you can chill with some drinks or purchase lovely souvenirs after exploring the area.

Hua Hin Railway Station: Hua Hin District, 77110, Thailand | Facebook

10. End Your Trip On A Sweet Note At Hua Hin Chocolate Factory

Hua Hin And Cha Am 12

Still have some time to spare before you head back to Bangkok to catch your flight? Visit Hua Hin Chocolate Factory !

Contrary to its name, the Chocolate Factory is not a place where you get to see chocolate being made. Instead, it houses a small gallery featuring the history of chocolate, a retail shop and a restaurant.

This place is also only around a 10- to 15-minute walk from the Town Centre.

Hua Hin And Cha Am 13

The restaurant is a wonderful place to sit back and relax with chocolate desserts and drinks. I recommend the Chocolate Dome which melted when we poured hot chocolate over it. It was so sinful but SO good.

There is a connecting playground beside the restaurant for your kids to entertain themselves while you enjoy your tea. Before you leave, drop by the retail shop to get some chocolate treats for your family and friends!

Hua Hin Chocolate Factory: Hua Hin 65, Tambon Hua Hin, Amphoe Hua Hin, Chang Wat Prachuap Khiri Khan 77110, Thailand | Opening Hours: (Daily) 9.30am – 10pm | Facebook

Hua Hin and Cha-am may be quiet and laidback spots, but they have plenty to offer and are perfect for short trips and weekend escapades.

If you have time to spare, you can also visit other attractions such as The Venezia, Sam Phan Nam Floating Market, Plearnwan Vintage Market and Mrigadayavan Palace. I wish you a fruitful trip!

Getting to Hua Hin from Bangkok

Getting to Hua Hin

There are a few different ways that you can travel to Hua Hin. The most popular is to fly into Bangkok, International Airport, of which there are two, and then take a train bus or private transportation service to Hua Hin.

If you would like to take a bus, then you can compare options on the 12go.Asia website with bus routes available from the airport, as well as from the Ekkamai neighborhood in Bangkok.

You can also get a taxi using the Grab app, but we recommend if you do want to get private transportation book a driver in advance, we always use a guy called Nut and you can contact him on the line app.

9 Best Things to Do in Hua Hin

What is hua hin most famous for.

The best things to do in Hua Hin are mostly tailor-made for family fun by the seaside. Most Thais indeed envisage Hua Hin as a romantic and elegant gateway vacation destination, a notion started about 100 years ago when the Royal Family members and the well-to-do would spend their summers here. As a result, Hua Hin now has countless lovely seaside houses, villas, and a few attractive vintage summer palaces. These are all popular Hua Hin attractions, but the newer, purpose-built shopping and sightseeing villages mean there is something for all generations.  Hua Hin is usually full of people taking a break from Bangkok at weekends and as it’s just a short drive away, its popularity has remained. Much of Hua Hin’s attraction lies in the town’s charming old-world feel, best illustrated in Hua Hin Railroad Station and the Maruekhathaiyawan Palace.

What are the best things to do in Hua Hin?

Hua hin beach.

hua hin visit place

Hua Hin Beach is a fantastic 8-km-long stretch of fine, soft sand. Being east-facing, it’s a fantastic place to watch the sunrise. During the day, it’s gotten a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, often with fun activities available such as jet skis, banana boats and beach volleyball. The water is great for bathing, though there can sometimes be jellyfish in the low season.

The beach is bookended by Khao Takiap at the southern end, and the shoreline itself is dotted with piers and occasional inaccessible neighborhoods. While you can certainly go for a very long walk on the sand, you’ll hit obstacles eventually. Note that, with a lot of hotels backing directly onto the beach right along its length, there are only a few places you can easily access the sand, and automobile parking can be tricky near those spots.

Hua Hin Railroad Station

hua hin visit place

Hua Hin Railroad Station was built during the reign of King Rama VI and opened in 1911. It is only a short distance from the center of town. The railroad station and adjacent royal waiting room are undeniably one of Hua Hin’s most attractive landmarks. The brightly painted wooden buildings that are Thai in concept and design somehow manage to have a 'Victorian' feel to them.

The story about the birth of Hua Hin as a royal seaside getaway town would be incomplete without a mention of this historic railroad station. Back in the early days, there was no road access to this idyllic beach town, and train travel was a new and delightful alternate to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin instead of by boat. Even if you don't arrive at the resort by train, go and have a look. This railroad station is charming, quirky and photogenic.

Cicada Market in Hua Hin is all about art, handmade crafts and good times. With an open-air market concept, it brings together Hua Hin’s artistic talents and those who wear ‘freedom of expression’ on their sleeves. The market has sections for fashion, arts, events and entertainment, and dining.

Art a la Mode occupies the majority of the outdoor space and is dedicated to fashion and decorative items. Art Indoors in the art gallery is where the bulk of paintings and sculptures are for sale. Housed inside the same building as the art gallery are a handful of shops selling creative knick-knacks and souvenirs. Open only on weekend evenings, the market is usually packed with weekenders from Bangkok. It is located off Petchkasem Road, about halfway between Hua Hin town and Khao Takiab.

Hua Hin Night Market

hua hin visit place

Hua Hin Night Market is a traditional marketplace right in the center of town, between Petchkasem Road and the railroad line. The market encompasses one street and comes to life from 6.30 pm onwards when traders line the street with their stalls selling various merchandise. Most of the items sold here are generally what you might expect from a Thai market.

There’s a superb selection of seafood restaurants lining the road that hosts the Hua Hin Night Market, which also draws a lot of attention from visitors. The seafood restaurants in this part of town are incredibly popular due to their atmosphere, quality of food and Thai-style low prices. With minimal space between each establishment, you can pretty much expect the same thing from each place and prices that closely compare to their neighbours’.

The park features 9 different waterslides, a wave pool, lazy river, beach pool, kids’ pool, and more – all set on a vast mountain-hugged landscape fronting an artificial lake just 10 km north of Hua Hin.

Owned and managed by the same people behind the Black Mountain Golf Course, the water park is one of the great family attractions in the group’s portfolio. It’s located opposite the golf course, on a local road that passes through Wat Huay Mongkol and Baan Silapin.

Khao Takiap is one of the biggest attractions in the Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Its name translates as ‘Chopstick Mountain’, although you may hear it being referred to as ‘Monkey Mountain’ due to the monkeys that live on it.

The mountain is also home to a hilltop temple with sensational views of Hua Hin. The start of the hike up to the temple is marked by a large bell and a flight of stairs up to the main shrine, which is a pagoda-like structure.

Phraya Nakhon Cave

hua hin visit place

The magnificent Phraya Nakhon Cave is one of the most mystical and mysterious landmarks of Thailand but only a few travelers get a chance to take a picture of it. The reason is simple: this gold and green pavilion is hidden inside a hard-to-reach cave and only a handful of dedicated visitors will do the effort to visit it. Those who do are rewarded with a stunning vision that looks like it's straight out of an Indiana Jones movie.

Phraya Nakhon Cave is located in the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, a 45-minute drive south of Hua Hin. The first step to reach the cave is to drive to the small village of Bang Pu located by the beach, and from there decide if you'd rather rent a boat to take you around the cape to Laem Sala beach, or walk a 30 minutes trek above the hill leading to the same Laem Sala beach.

Santorini Park Cha-Am

Santorini Park is a theme park that brings a slice of the picture-perfect Greek island to Cha-am. It’s gotten all the details right, from classic whitewashed buildings, colorfully painted windows, down to stone-paved paths and domed towers. An impressive lineup of shops, restaurants and an amusement park promise good times for everyone.

The park has 5 zones that provide all-encompassing entertainment for families. Park Zone is essentially the amusement park part, with rides and games set on vast landscaped grounds. All rides are imported, including the 40-metre-high Ferris wheel, double-decker carousel, G-MAX reverse bungee, G-MAX giant swing, XD Dark Ride 7D interactive game and Asia’s first Wallholla climbing structure.

Venezia Hua Hin

hua hin visit place

The Venezia is a cool theme shopping destination and attraction in Hua Hin, following the growing popularity and undeniable success of other similar weekend destinations in Thailand. Palio in Kao Yai was probably one of the triggers for such a following of pretty villages, followed right after by the beautiful Santorini Park in Hua Hin and the now-famous Asiatique in Bangkok.

The theme chosen by The Venezia is obviously Venice, and you will not miss the San Marco's bell tower replica when driving through Cha-am on your way to Hua Hin. The park is immense and even includes a 200-metre 'Grand Canal' on which you can actually get a ride on iconic Venetian gondolas.

Hua Hin is a coastal town that is a 3-hour drive from Bangkok . It is the traditional holiday resort of the Thai royal family. Compared with lively Pattaya , Hua Hin's downtown area has an elegant and calm atmosphere and boasts the most ancient and beautiful railway station in Thailand, as well as the former Thailand imperial palace.

Cha-Am is connected to Hua Hin and is a seaside resort on the east side of Thailand. Its continuous bay draws the outline of a beautiful curve. The sandy beach is very wide and the calm blue sea water is very clean. At the quiet and casual beach , Cha-Am has a more quiet environment compared with Hua Hin. There are very few foreign visitors. Bangkok's families and students come here for vacations, weekend parties, and during holidays and festivals.

Means of transport: Starting from Bangkok, you can arrive at Cha-Am by bus in about two or three hours. It is more convenient to start from Hua Hin, and you only need around a half-hour drive. You can spend a half day or one day enjoying leisurely holiday time here.

During the cozy vacation period, the clean white sand at the beach is soft and charming in the blue sky and sunshine. Only people wearing bathing suits strolling on the beach can be seen sporadically. You can sit on a beach bench and sunbathe, buy a drink and relax your mind, enjoy the seafood under an Arenga Pinnata tree, or experience simple entertainment activities such as banana boats, etc. The prices are relatively affordable.

Khao Takiab and Khao Krailart are 4km away from downtown Hua Hin. As these two mountains stand side by side, they look like a pair of chopsticks. So the local people call them "the chopstick mountains."

You can play with the naughty monkeys dotted around the mountain and next to a small temple. The mountain isn't high and you can arrive at the peak in about ten minutes. When climbing the mountain, you should pay attention to your baggage and belongings because some monkeys will try to grab your things. Bold tourists can also purchase bananas to feed them.

You can appreciate the coastline of Hua Hin as much as you like because there aren't many tourists, and the mountain overlooks the shore of Hua Hin at the summit of the mountain. There is a small fishing village at the foot of mountain as well as some local small inns where you can sit and have a meal.

The blue and white buildings symbolizing the Greek Santorini is used as a theme for the amusement park . Hence, the place is also known as "Little Greece".

The park covers a large area. Although there aren't many recreation facilities in the park, each facility is very enjoyable, and the various interactive games are very suitable for the whole family.

All the buildings in the park are blue and white with a really fresh style. Girls will definitely be unable to restrain their young hearts and will definitely have to stop for photos.

In addition, there is also a ferris wheel that's 40m in height. You can't miss its colors and perfect view.

Phraya Nakhon Cave is located in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and is adjacent to Bang Pu Village. The cave is located on a small island which is formed by an original reef due to the seawater decline. The cave is wide and beautiful with a grand landscape. There is also a natural opening at the top of cave that provides a natural light source. When the sunshine enters into the palace from the top of the cave, the resulting resplendent and magnificent landscape is stunning.

There is a four-corner palace with a unique style that was established during the reign of Rama V, the King of Thailand. Because of the unique style and charm of the palace, it has become the representation and symbol of Prachuap Khiri Khan. There are few tourists and the seawater is clear right to the bottom. The island's landscape is quite like the scenery of the south island, and is very pure and quiet. You can come to put your mind at rest and contemplate life.

The body of an eminent Thai monk that is highly respected by the Thai people is buried at the far right end of the cave, and there is a Buddha statue for worship. Rama V, Rama VII, and even the current Rama IX, all the Kings of Thailand pay religious homage to the monk by braving the long journey and the difficult climb up the mountain road. The four-corner palace was built during the reign of Rama V.

Khao Wang is located on a hill in Phetchaburi. Mongkut, the King of Thailand, really loved this hill due to its natural essence, so he built his temporary imperial palace on the hill and named it "Phra Nakhon Khiri", meaning "city on the hill". Now, it has been changed into the state-run Phra Nakhon Khiri Museum.

Mongkut, the King of Thailand, was the inspiration for the valiant and majestic king in the film "Anna and the King", and Khao Wang was naturally used as the temporary imperial palace for the king in the film. When surmounting Khao Wang at the peak of the mountain by cable car, you can not only feel the natural essence of the "City on the Hill", you can also overlook the elegant urban landscape, and the vast land at the foot of mountain. It is a truly fascinating view.

5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Hua Hin, Thailand

Traveling to Thailand isn't complete without visiting a beach, and that's one of the reasons why you should visit Hua Hin. The city may not be as popular as some other beach destinations like Phuket or Krabi, but it's a great alternative if you still want to visit a beach in Thailand without traveling too far from Bangkok.

Just like Damnoen Saduak , so many travel agents offer Hua Hin as a destination for a day trip from the capital city of Thailand. However, I would argue that Hua Hin is worth visiting more than just for a day trip from Bangkok .

In this post, I'm going to share some of my two cents about traveling to Hua Hin and why you should add the city as one of your destinations while traveling to Thailand. So, here we go!

Table of Content

Traveling to Hua Hin, Thailand

Hua Hin beach in Thailand.

Hua Hin is a beach resort town situated only around 200 kilometers from Bangkok, making it a great destination for a beach getaway from the capital city. The city is also known as the golfing capital of Thailand, and I can confirm this because I once had a date with a professional golfer who just happened to be based in Hua Hin. LOL.

When my boyfriend and I decided to visit Hua Hin, our main consideration was because of the limited time we had in Thailand. We only had 2 weeks in the country, and we wanted to explore the northern part of the country. As we realized that we didn't have enough time to go south to the cities and islands that are more popular as beach destinations in Thailand, Hua Hin was our perfect choice.

Initially, we were planning to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin. But after we decided to stay in Kanchanaburi for 2 days , we then decided to take the bus from Kanchanaburi to Hua Hin instead. After 2 days in Hua Hin, we headed back to Bangkok from Hua Hin, we're happy with our final decision when traveling to Thailand this time!

Why Visit Hua Hin in Thailand

Hua Hin is a perfect destination if you have limited time to travel around Thailand, but still want to make the best out of it by experiencing a beach getaway in the country. From Bangkok , there are at least two beach destinations you can visit easily: either Hua Hin or Pattaya.

We decided to visit Hua Hin instead of Pattaya because we heard some negative reviews about the latter. And honestly, we weren't disappointed with the decision as we had a blast in Hua Hin!

In this section, I'm going to share my two cents about why I think you should consider visiting Hua Hin when traveling to Thailand. What are they? Check this out!

1. Hua Hin is a great destination for a day trip from Bangkok

Bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

Bangkok to Hua Hin by bus will take approximately 3 hours, making it a great place to go for a day trip from the capital city. If this is what you want, you can take the morning bus at around 7 AM so you can spend the whole day around Hua Hin beach before returning to Bangkok.

Alternatively, you can also take a train from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The journey will take longer, since it takes approximately 4.5 hours to get to Hua Hin from Bangkok by train. However, it will guarantee you comfort, especially if you book a second-class sleeper train for the route.

In fact, apart from the Death Railway from Bangkok to Nong Khai , the train trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin can be a scenic journey that stops at the Hua Hin Railway Station. The railway station in Hua Hin is one of the city landmarks, which is known for its beautiful wooden structure with a distinct Thai architectural style that's worth a stop before exploring other places to visit in Hua Hin.

Since I didn't get a chance to take the train when traveling from or to Hua Hin, I couldn't talk more about it. However, if you want to take the bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin, the easiest way to do it is by taking a bus from Mo Chit terminal in Chatuchak . In English, Mo Chit terminal is known as the Northern Bus Station in Bangkok.

Hua Hin-Bangkok bus ticket.

When we took the bus from Hua Hin to Bangkok, we initially bought a bus ticket from Hua Hin to the South Bus Terminal as it was closer to our apartment in Bangkok. However, there was trouble in the bus operation so we had to get off at Mo Chit terminal anyway. We paid 180 THB (around $5 USD) per pax for a bus ticket from Hua Hin to Bangkok.

If you plan a day trip to Hua Hin, you can ask the driver to drop you off at Green Market. You can just take the bridge to cross over, and Hua Hin beach is only within walking distance from there. Most bars and restaurants in Hua Hin only accept online payment through QR code, so unless you have a Thai bank account, be sure to withdraw enough cash at Green Market before heading to the beach.

2. Hua Hin is an excellent beach destination in the heart of Thailand

Hua Hin beach, Thailand.

Hua Hin is the best spot if you want a beach getaway in the center of Thailand, especially one that is not too far from Bangkok. Hua Hin beach stretches for several kilometers, with so many activities to do, from swimming to extreme watersports like jetskiing or paragliding.

Whether you prefer sunbathing while enjoying some cocktails at the bar nearby, or you want to jump into the water and swim, there's only so much to do on the beach in Hua Hin. Some sections of the beach are also suitable for watersports, so you can either bring your esurf or rent a jetski while enjoying the waves around Hua Hin Beach.

There are some massage parlors on the beach too, so if you're keen to relax and get some massage, you can definitely go there although it's usually so crowded that you might have to get on the waiting list for it!

Jet ski around Hua Hin beach in Thailand.

The beach was quite lively when we were in Hua Hin, but it wasn't full so it's still a great one to visit. You can rent sunbeds or beach mats on the beach, but you can also bring your own if you want to save a few bucks.

Alternatively, you can order some food from a restaurant that provides chairs by the beach. However, be prepared as the food and beverages there can be quite pricey for the latter. If you plan to relax on Hua Hin beach without spending too much money, I'd recommend bringing your own sarong and just finding an empty spot to relax there.

We rented a beach mat on the second day we were in Hua Hin, and we paid 40 THB (around $1.2 USD) for it.

3. There are plenty of activities you can do in Hua Hin

Apart from beach, there are many places you can visit around Hua Hin. You can go to Khao Takiab at Chopstick Hill to visit the temple full of the resident monkeys, just around 15-minute drive from the city center.

In the same area, make your way to visit Wat Huay Mongkol, the home to the largest statue of Luang Phor Thuad. The latter was a South Thai monk who dedicated his life to the practice of Buddhism. He's eventually known for the pursuit of his spiritual enlightenment. Born in Songkhla Province , Luang Phor Thuad is currently known for his spiritual teachings, legendary miracles, and protective powers.

If you don't mind going a bit further away from the city center, you can also visit Sam Roi Yot National Park where you can explore the wildlife in the region, as well as beautiful nature from mangrove forests to stunning viewpoints.

When in Hua Hin, you can also visit the night market and enjoy various choices of food over there. Whether you want to grab some fresh seafood for dinner or prefer having some BBQs, it's a great place to go in Hua Hin!

4. It's relatively easy to get around Hua Hin

You can hire a tuk-tuk to get around Hua Hin, as you can find a tuk-tuk for hire in almost every corner of the city. The key is to haggle the price they offered you first, as from my experience, most of them would try to rip you off if you don't try to bargain.

Otherwise, you can also play it safe and use Grab app to get around Hua Hin too. There are more fleets for GrabCar than GrabBike in Hua Hin, but at least you don't have to worry about getting ripped off when booking a transport via this app in Hua Hin!

5. There are so many decent hotels with affordable rates in Hua Hin

Although it's a great destination for a day trip from Bangkok, it's worth staying in Hua Hin for a few days as you can easily find some great hotels with affordable rates around the city.

If you have an extra budget for accommodation in Hua Hin, you can book a room at some hotels with direct beach access like Anantara Hua Hin Resort . Or if you're a member of Hilton Honors , you can also take advantage of your points by staying at Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa .

Alternatively, you can also book a hotel without direct access to the beach but with a free shuttle service for the guests. We stayed at Hua Hin Grand Hotel & Plaza where we could take advantage of their shuttle bus to and from Hua Hin Beach.

We stayed at a Superior Room at the hotel for IDR 683,413 (around $45) per night, and we're happy that we could enjoy all the facilities that the hotel provided from the shuttle service, to their huge swimming pool!

FAQs About Traveling to Hua Hin

As usual, I'm going to list some of the frequently asked questions about traveling to Hua Hin in this section so you can consider whether it's a great idea to visit Hua Hin next time you're in Thailand!

Is Hua Hin good for couples?

Hua Hin is definitely a top-notch destination for a romantic getaway. It's a great spot to relax, whether you just want to chill on the beachfront while enjoying your cocktail or just try some adventurous activities like kitesurfing or paragliding together.

Since I was traveling to Hua Hin with my boyfriend, it checked all the items on my checklist for a romantic destination. From swimming late at night at the hotel's swimming pool while staring out the sky and talking about life, to strolling around the beach while occasionally playing with the waves. It's definitely a great place to visit for couples!

Hua Hin Beach.

How safe is Hua Hin?

Hua Hin is one of the safest places to visit in Thailand, and from what I saw when visiting the city, Hua Hin is also one of the best family-friendly places to visit in the country.

I saw a lot of families traveling to Hua Hin with their young children, and I occasionally saw some kids playing around the beach wearing their school uniforms. I feel like this is the place where anyone can travel around without having to worry about their safety.

The roads in the city center are also pedestrian-friendly, and they're definitely less busy compared to Bangkok!

How long would you recommend to stay in Hua Hin?

I think 2-3 days should be alright to stay in Hua Hin. Since we had limited time to travel around Thailand, we only managed to stay for 2 days and 1 night in Hua Hin and we didn't get a chance to visit all the places we should visit in Hua Hin because of this.

However, since our main goal for traveling to Hua Hin is to go to the beach, 2 days and 1 night are enough for us to explore the beach in the city. If you plan to go beyond the beach around Hua Hin, I recommend staying there for 3 or 4 days!

Hua Hin may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you plan for a beach getaway in Thailand. However, it's a great destination to go if you don't have plenty of time traveling in Thailand from Bangkok while still wanting to explore the beach vibes in the country.

Whether you want to go on a day trip from the capital city or decide to extend your stay for a couple of days, Hua Hin is worth visiting if you are looking for destinations with a nice beach with white sands near Bangkok. It's a great spot for a romantic getaway, while it's also suitable for family traveling with young children!

I can second that! I have visited once and stayed a few days with friends. while the beach isn’t super amazingly scenic, it is clean and fine for swimming. I love Hua Hin has an actual town with temples, markets, etc. etc. and isn’t just a big tourist resort. We also went to loads of markets, the beautiful train station and celebrated King Rama IX birthday there – a once in a lifetime event. Took the sleeper train there (had a bed for three hours, perfect) and a “fancy” minibus back to Bangkok, very easy to get there.

Why Hua Hin Province Should Be Your Top Choice in Thailand

FazWaz

You're just getting out of bed in the morning from your new home in Hua Hin. You plan to visit the morning market for fresh ingredients. Later, you'll take your laptop to work at a café, listening to the waves hitting the white sand. In the evening, you look forward to enjoying soft grilled fish with Thai seafood chili sauce. It sounds like paradise, doesn't it? Well, this paradise is real, and it's located in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Hua Hin is one of the main districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, just a three-hour drive from Bangkok. This coastal beach town remains an untouched gem in 2024. Compared to its better-known competitors, such as Koh Samui, Pattaya, and Phuket, Hua Hin is less touristy, has less traffic, offers a stable cost of living, and more importantly, it's a place you can call home.

We are giving you four reasons why the lifestyle in Hua Hin is different from other provinces in Thailand.

Less Commerizies Beach Scene

First and foremost, Hua Hin stands out as a tranquil beach town, in stark contrast to the bustling beaches of Pattaya and Koh Samui. While Pattaya, just a two-hour drive from Bangkok, is famed for its vibrant nightlife, bars, and active beach scene, Hua Hin offers a different atmosphere entirely.

In Hua Hin, you're more likely to see families reading books on the beach or professionals nestled in chic cafes with their laptops. It's a favored destination for many Thais from Bangkok looking for a peaceful escape with their families. The beach activities here are minimal, which preserves the calm of the coastline. Instead, the town is rich with local morning markets and renowned night markets, where you can indulge in some exceptional street food.

The community in Hua Hin is welcoming, fostering a friendly environment where you can unwind and focus deeply on your work, your family, or yourself. This serene setting is what makes Hua Hin uniquely appealing, providing a quiet leisure time that is hard to find in more commercialized beach towns.

Hua Hin Beach

A Mature Community

The second reason Hua Hin stands apart from places like Koh Samui or Phuket is its mature community. Hua Hin has traditionally been known as a destination for expats seeking retirement or families desiring extended summer vacations by the beach. However, in recent years, Hua Hin has also become a favored spot for solopreneurs seeking tranquility and opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.

In Hua Hin, you'll encounter people from across the globe and from all walks of life. Despite the casual dress code of t-shirts, shorts, and slippers, the conversations you’ll have reveal a different story. You might meet a former executive from an investment firm like Blackstone or an entrepreneur working on a startup. These interactions reflect a community that values mature, meaningful conversations over superficial exchanges.

Unlike Koh Samui, known for its vibrant beach clubs and full-moon parties, Hua Hin offers a quieter ambiance. It shies away from loud nightlife, providing a serene environment more conducive to thoughtful discussion and relaxation. For a detailed comparison of Hua Hin versus Koh Samui , you might consider checking resources like FazWaz for more insights.

Golfing Haven

Hua Hin Province offers more than just serene beaches and a bustling expat community—it is also one of Thailand’s premier golfing destinations. Positioned uniquely close to both beaches and mountains, the area provides stunning vistas that enhance any golfing experience. Imagine taking a putt on the 15th hole with breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding mountains—it’s a golfer’s dream!

Golf Course in Hua Hin

Furthermore, Hua Hin is home to the APG tours in Thailand, making it a must-visit location for golf enthusiasts.

But the adventures in Hua Hin don’t stop at golf. The region is also renowned for a variety of other activities including polo, rock climbing, wakeboarding, and car rallying. Whether it’s during a leisurely weekend or as part of an extended stay, there are plenty of thrilling pursuits to enjoy alongside the peaceful lifestyle that Hua Hin is known for.

Lifestyle Cost of Living in Hua Hin

As you have noticed, Hua Hin stands out from other locations in Thailand due to its less commercialized beaches, mature community, and reputation as a golfing haven. These attributes contribute to Hua Hin being a relaxed and tranquil destination, catering more to family-friendly pursuits. It attracts fewer tourists and is favored by locals who prefer spending quality time with friends and family in a calming environment.

Taking these factors into account, let’s explore how the cost of living in Hua Hin compares to Phuket. For a detailed analysis, you can refer to the FazWaz Cost of Living table .

For a quick overview, we provide estimates for both a moderate and a luxury lifestyle in Hua Hin, taking into consideration housing rentals, transportation, and leisure activities.
