Heritage Line Jayavarman Cruise

Jayavarman-Cruise-overview

About This Cruise

map

Detailed Itinerary

You will be greeted in the morning at the cruise's welcome lounge in Saigon. Kick back with a second coffee as the cruise staff collects your details for boarding. Bid farewell to the hustle and bustle of Saigon and travel 70 kilometres south over land towards My Tho to embark on The Jayavarman. After checking into your luxurious floating “home” for the next several days, your first inclination may be to step on your balcony to watch the ship sets sail on its fascinating Mekong River voyage.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

A lunch buffet is served in the restaurant while the vessel steadily glides upstream. Now it is time to get acquainted with one of the largest streams in Asia, which runs an estimated length of 4,909 km (3,050 mi) and discharges 475 cu km (114 cu mi) of water annually. Millions of people – from China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam – pay tribute to this mighty river which provides sustenance and protection over its inhabitants.

Let your soul float and your eyes wander while the boat makes its way upstream. It is often stated that "nautical air" makes you hungry, so you are cordially invited to the afternoon tea in the open-air bar as twilight bathes the Mekong Delta in a golden haze. Get to know your fellow travellers while enjoying some tasty treats. The rest of this cruising day is fully yours to relax on your private balcony or be pampered by the cruise's therapists at the Apsara Spa.

While you savour your delightful dinner, the ship reaches Cai Be. This historic town was established in the 19th century by Vietnam’s last ruling family, the Nguyen dynasty, on the Mekong River where three provinces meet: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Ben Tre. Cai Be would later become the surrounding region’s predominant water-based trading hub, as you will see in tomorrow’s visit to the floating market. Anchor mid-stream near Cai Be and moor there overnight. If you are in the mood for some evening entertainment, there is a cinema in the lounge showcasing classic movies and interesting documentaries on a nightly basis.

Wake up early to witness the spectacular scenery at the break of dawn. To make the experience complete, join the cruise's daily morning Tai Chi class. Afterwards, a rich breakfast buffet awaits, or if you prefer, breakfast will be served directly to your room.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

Arrive at Cai Be, a charming market town which is famous for its Catholic French church and the manufacturing of traditional crafts and food products. The once enormous floating market of Cai Be gets smaller year by year since trading on the water is continually shifting towards modern markets. However, you can still see boat-to-boat trading of local goods, such as fruits and agricultural products and imagine what this must have looked like on a larger scale. Learn from your guide about the long-lasting trading culture and how each boat has a special marker to let buyers know what goods they are selling.

By local boat, you'll sail along the green canal network and watch the farmers working in the fields. A visit ashore of a workshop shows you the manufacturing of rice paste, rice paper, rice cookies and rice wine. Cai Be's surrounding areas are covered by palm trees, which is why the region is also famous for the production of coconut candy. While the vessel continues sailing upstream, you can enjoy time to yourself or head to the bar to and enjoy a true Vietnamese coffee as you watch the life on the riverbanks float by.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

In the afternoon, the vessel reaches the area of Sa Dec and arrives at one of the larger islands in the vast stream of the Mekong, Binh Thanh Island. Several communities have settled here and make their living by growing water hyacinths. You exclusively visit one of these untouched areas. By wandering through the village, get a deep understanding of native life. One of the local artisans, for example, demonstrates the entire process of traditional mat making. You can try weaving yourself. You'll also meet a local elderly couple who share their story of living on this island. They are always happy to chit-chat with visitors.

Back on board, you may take a dip in the pool on the sun deck. In the evening, your expert guide offers a presentation on life on the Mekong Delta as the ship continues sailing to Tan Chau, a pleasant, slow-paced border town near the Cambodian border with a sizeable Chinese, Kinh and Khmer community. The cruise moors near the city with views on the riverbanks.

Welcome to the fish sanctuary of Vietnam.

Once on shore, you'll see Tan Chau's vibrant town-life as you hop on "xelois", which are local vehicles still used as a taxi in this area. Your personal "xeloi" driver slowly navigates through the streets to observe all the workshops, houses and shops while feeling the laid-back vibe of this place. You'll stop at the colourful, local market near one of the town’s temples. This is a great opportunity to interact with the vendors of this friendly town and try your hand at bargaining with them.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

To see what Tan Chau is famous for, board local boats and head to a floating fish farm. You are about to get an exclusive look into the world’s largest inland aquaculture industry. Each of the floating structures has netting hanging down into the water to enclose the fish, which are raised and fed on a daily basis. The region’s specialties are tilapia and the Basa catfish, or Pangasius, which is unique to the Mekong River basin and rapidly gaining popularity on the international seafood market.

Back on board your "home", the cruise sails towards the Vietnamese-Cambodian border. Get ready for a fascinating and leisurely cruise through the deep Cambodian countryside towards Phnom Penh.

The whole afternoon is at your own disposal. From here, even the last passenger turns on their cruise mode and hopefully experiences the relaxing influence this mighty river emanates. The afternoon is perfect for massages, relaxation on a terrace deck sunbed or private balcony kick-backs. Conjure up a spell to merge with the river and float into a state of mild bliss.

You also may like to visit the bridge as the captain always has a little story to share about "his" river. Or, if you are curious to learn more about Khmer gastronomy, join a culinary workshop to sharpen your knowledge about local cuisine.

After some additional cruising time back aboard, the boat arrives and docks at the pier of Phnom Penh. Feel free to go out and explore by yourself after dinner. Stroll along the river promenade and watch the locals chit-chatting, selling odds and ends or have a drink in one of the numerous bars.

Welcome to Phnom Penh - the city once named Paris of the East. Despite its rapid development, it has retained a lot of its rustic charm and elegance. It is an amazing town with centuries of incredible history and culture which can still be felt at many street corners.

Phnom Penh

Enjoy your last breakfast aboard your floating home before disembarking the ship. We hope you enjoyed this fascinating river cruise, just as the crew does every single time. Moreover, take the enchanting memories and friendships along with you and share the stories of this amazing river - the Mighty Mekong.

Ship overview.

The majestic Jayavarman is considered the father in Heritage Line’s “family” of cruise ships. This vessel was named after Angkor’s most venerated king, a devout Buddhist who ruled from 1181 to 1218. King Jayavarman oversaw the construction of some of the most famous temples in Angkor, including Ta Prohm, Preah Khan and the unforgettable Bayon.

Inspired by the serenity and artistry associated with this great Khmer monarch, Jayavarman’s design was also influenced by the French cruise liner Normandie, which launched in 1935. Travelling the Mekong between My Tho , the entry gate to the Mekong Delta, and Siem Reap, Cambodia, Jayavarman marries the art deco charm of 1930’s France with the romance of Indochina. Measuring 57.8 meters/190 feet from bow to stern, Jayavarman holds 27 elegantly decorated cabins.

Thanks to its intricate woodcarvings, Khmer bas-reliefs and Vietnamese lacquer paintings, this impressive cruise ship resembles a floating art gallery. Wherever they look, guests are reminded of the local arts and culture.

With three-and-a-half decks, Jayavarman is as spacious as it is beautiful. Guests can admire Khmer artifacts in the Henry Mouhot Lounge, mingle in the Club 1930 Bar, dine in the elegant Indochine Dining Hall, and recharge with spa treatments in the Apsara Spa. A Jacuzzi pool is located on the top sun deck, which offers spectacular views of the passing delta.

Along with its peaceful beauty, the Mekong Delta is known for its friendly locals. The crew members of Jayavarman are no exception. From the moment they board, guests are made to feel at home. Offering exceptional service, comfort and style, Jayavarman is a name to remember. This beautiful vessel is an unforgettable means of exploring some of the finest scenery in Asia.

Life on the Jayavarman is one luxurious experience after another. Allow us to paint – in your mind’s eye – the picture of romance, majesty and mystery that becomes you when you board the Jayavarman.

You step out on to your private balcony, sipping your cocktail made with fruit from the land that envelops you. The sun sets gently and the charming countryside becomes a silhouette shining on the river. You soon realize that you’ve never been in a place so peaceful and so serene, occasionally punctuated by a child’s raucous laughter ringing from a nearby village.

Darkness descends, signaling the time for a traditional feast. Food from the region is served by waiters who, by now, have become your friends. They are a tad shy yet they are proud to put on display their traditional attire and share their culture with you.

After a night’s sleep, the soft rays of the sun warm your face. Tai Chi lessons await you on the upper sun deck, ready to connect you to the energy that is so plentiful in this cultured and spiritual place.

At every corner, every river bend aboard this luxurious and majestic ship, new sights and new experiences are ready and waiting to be found.

“HENRY MOUHOT” LOBBY LOUNGE

Named after the French archeologist who discovered the Angkor temple complex, the Henry Mouhot Lounge is the perfect place to curl up with a book or an e-book as. It is wifi connected. The lounge also hosts the boutique shop and the reception. The Lounge has a decidedly scholarly air about it – dark furniture with harmonious Asian fabrics, a fine smell of teak wood; white ceiling and rose-painted walls together with a bunch of stunning Khmer artifacts bring back memories of the past French Colonial era.

“CLUB 1930” FUNNEL BAR & LOUNGE

Be transported back to 30s and 40s in our Club 1930 Bar and Funnel Lounge. The bar has a warm classical feel and the lounge is spacious and airy. Observe the passing landscape from your dark-wood colonial styled and cushion filled chaise longue or sink in your comfy cane chair for a quick snooze.

THE APSARA BEAUTY AND WELLNESS SPA

The spa is tucked away in a quiet area at the front of the ship on the main deck. The room is designed to accommodate two guests at the same time. Selected Asian spa treatments are available ranging from relaxing foot massage up to East Western fusions.

Efficient organization

We heard about Inside Travel from some friends of ours who had booked a Mekong river cruise from Cambodia to Vietnam on the Heritage Line. They put us in touch with Ms Hong Nham, Mekong River Cruise Expert. Her efficiency was wonderful and everything worked perfectly, from the pickup at our Siem Reap hotel, transport to Kampong Cham, where we boarded the Jayavarman boat and collection at My Tho at the end of the cruise for transport to our hotel in HCM City. She kept in touch with us frequently as the cruise date approached. The cruise was a marvelous experience. Thank you Ms Hong Nham for your expertise, courtesy and efficiency!

8 day Mekong cruise

We had a lot of moving parts to put together but the airport transfers and hotel shuffles all worked well which Hong Nham from Inside Travel organized for us — the Mekong cruise exceeded expectations.i would certainly trust and recommend them to arrange future travel plans for South East Asia.

Super attentive service

We came to Inside Travel late in the day after our previous tour company advised us our Mekong Delta cruise was being cancelled because of insufficient bookings. Inside Travel quickly identified several suitable alternatives and helped us make our final choice. Everything they advised us was factually correct and the holiday matched our requirements perfectly. We'd have no hesitation in using Inside Travel again

The Jahan cruise

Just completed (Oct 23) the 5 day/ 4night cruise from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh on the Jahan. We booked this through Inside Travel and in particular our booking was handled by Hong Nham who has provided us with excellent support throughout the whole process. It wasn’t the trip we had originally planned, but due to a problem on the sister ship we were able to change our plans so we were still able to cruise part of Cambodia. Many thangs to Hong Nham in her assistance here. The outcome was an amazing time on the Jahan which is a fantastic ship with a really great and friendly crew who can’t do enough for you. The shore excursions were both amazing and very humbling to see the real Cambodia and its fantastic people. We undoubtedly had more unusual modes of transport that we could have imagined ever using, saw amazing sights and the friendliness of the people we met has created memories that will last a life time. If you want to combine elegant cruising, fine dining and authentic Cambodia then this is a must do trip. Can certainly recommend Inside Travel and Hong Nham to facilitate your trip.

Inside Travel (Heritage Line)

We sailed with friends in The Heritage Line (Javan) during October in Cambodia. This was re-arranged by Hong Nam at Inside Travel who was both diligent and knowledgeable of the area and sailing company (Heritage Line). We would definitely book through Inside Travel again as this was an unforgettable sailing experience aboard The Jahan.

Heritage Line Jayavarman Cruise

The Heritage Line Jayavarman Cruise was named after the most respected king of Angkor, Jayavarman VII, who was known for his tranquility and love for artistic creations. The French design of Jayavarman was inspired by the Khmer monarch’s serenity and artistry. Along the Mekong River between My Tho and Siem Reap, Jayavarman Cruise is a combination of French art charm and Indochina romance, which reminds guests of the local arts and culture. The ship’s interior design is characterized by a charming French-Colonial theme along with stylish Khmer accents.

It is said that the Mekong Delta locals are friendly, as are the Jayavarman crew members. From the boarding moment board, they would make you feel at home. Jayavarman Cruise is mentioned as one of the most luxury Mekong River cruises due to its exceptional service and style. It commits to making your Asia exploration unforgettable.

Cruise Itinerary

Day 01: saigon – my tho – cai be.

  • We greet our guests in the morning at our welcome lounge in Saigon.
  • Kick back with a second cup of coffee as our staff collects your details for boarding.
  • Departure from bustling Saigon towards My Tho, a 70-kilometer journey over land, to embark on our luxury Mekong cruise.
  • Check into the luxurious floating “home” – Heritage Line Jayavarman Cruise for the upcoming days.
  • Watch the ship set sail on the Mekong River from your balcony.
  • A lunch buffet is served in the restaurant while the vessel steadily glides upstream.
  • Learn about the Mekong River, one of Asia’s largest streams, spanning 4,909 km and providing sustenance and protection to millions of people from China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
  • Let your soul float and your eyes wander while the boat makes its way upstream.
  • Join us for afternoon tea in the open-air bar as twilight bathes the Mekong Delta in a golden haze.
  • Enjoy tasty treats and get to know your fellow travelers.
  • Relax on your private balcony or indulge in pampering at the Apsara Spa.
  • Savor a delightful dinner as the ship reaches Cai Be. Cai Be, established in the 19th century by Vietnam’s Nguyen dynasty, is a historic town on the Mekong River where three provinces meet: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Ben Tre.
  • We anchor mid-stream near Cai Be and stay overnight.
  • Enjoy evening entertainment at the lounge’s cinema, featuring classic movies and documentaries.

Day 02: Cai Be – Sa Dec – Tan Chau

  • Wake up early to witness the spectacular scenery at the break of dawn. To make the experience complete, join our daily morning Tai Chi class.
  • Afterward, a rich breakfast buffet awaits, or if you prefer, we can serve breakfast directly to your room.
  • We arrive at Cai Be, a charming market town that is famous for its Catholic French church and the manufacturing of traditional crafts and food products. The once enormous floating market of Cai Be gets smaller year by year since trading on the water is continually shifting towards modern markets.
  • However, you can still see boat-to-boat trading of local goods, such as fruits and agricultural products, and imagine what this must have looked like on a larger scale.
  • We learn from our guide about the enduring trading culture and how boats have markers indicating the goods they sell.
  • By local boat, we sail along the green canal network and watch the farmers working in the fields.
  • A visit to a workshop shows us the manufacturing of rice paste, rice paper, rice cookies, and rice wine. Cai Be’s surrounding areas are covered by palm trees, which is why the region is also famous for the production of coconut candy.
  • While our luxury Mekong cruise continues sailing upstream, you can enjoy time to yourself or head to the bar to enjoy a true Vietnamese coffee as you watch the life on the riverbanks float by.
  • Heritage Line Jayavarman cruise reaches the area of Sa Dec and arrives at one of the larger islands in the vast stream of the Mekong, Binh Thanh Island. Several communities have settled here and made their living by growing water hyacinths. We exclusively visit one of these untouched areas.
  • By wandering through the village, we get a deep understanding of native life. One of the local artisans, for example, demonstrates the entire process of traditional mat-making. You can try weaving yourself.
  • We also meet a local elderly couple who share their story of living on this island. They are always happy to chit-chat with our guests.
  • Back on board, you may take a dip in the pool on the sun deck.
  • Our expert guide offers a presentation on life on the Mekong Delta as the ship continues sailing to Tan Chau, a pleasant, slow-paced border town near the Cambodian border with a sizeable Chinese, Kinh, and Khmer community.

Day 03: Tan Chau - Border Crossing - Phnom Penh

  • Visit Tan Chau, the fish sanctuary in Vietnam.

  • Board local boats to visit a floating fish farm, the world’s largest inland aquaculture industry. See the fish raised in floating structures with netting hanging into the water. Tilapia and basa catfish (Pangasius) are the region’s specialties, popular in the international seafood market.
  • Sail towards the Vietnamese-Cameroonian border and journey through the deep Cambodian countryside towards Phnom Penh.

The whole afternoon is at your own disposal.

  • From here, even the last passenger turns on their cruise mode and hopefully experiences the relaxing influence this mighty river emanates.
  • The afternoon is perfect for massages, relaxation on a terrace deck sunbed, or private balcony kickbacks.
  • Conjure up a spell to merge with the river and float into a state of mild bliss.
  • You also may like to visit the bridge, as the captain always has a little story to share about “his” river.
  • Or, if you are curious to learn more about Khmer gastronomy, join a culinary workshop to sharpen your knowledge about local cuisine.
  • After our relaxing cruise during the whole afternoon into the evening hours, the boat arrives at Phnom Penh (docking mid-stream or at the pier).

Important notes:

Low water season:

The water level goes down and is very low in Tonle Sap, so the Ships have to dock in Kampong Cham, where the embarkation and disembarkation will take place. It takes 4.5 hours for our coaches to transfer to the meeting point in Siem Reap (Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa).

For downstream (REP-SGN), we will meet at 08:00 a.m. for the check-in formality.

For upstream (SGN-REP), the coaches will drop you off around 13:30 p.m. at Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa.

The low water season is approximately from January to the middle of September.

High water season:

The Jayavarman Cruise could cruise along in Tonle Sap and dock near Siem Reap pier. It just takes 45 minutes for our coaches to transfer to the meeting point (Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa). The embarkation and disembarkation of the Ship will take place near Siem Reap pier.

For downstream (REP-SGN), we will meet at noon (12:00 p.m.) at the meeting point to check informality.

For upstream (SGN-REP), the coaches will drop you off around 10:00 a.m. at Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa.

The high water season is approximately from the middle of September to the end of December.

High water and low water season just make itinerary timing schedule changeable in Siem Reap, there will be no changes at other destinations.

Heritage Line: The Return of Jayavarman

Heritage Line has enthusiastically announced the return of the luxurious Jayavarman to the Mekong River, after 3 years, 8 months, and 6 days of undergoing a significant transformation. The iconic vessel has resumed operations, embarking on journeys between Saigon and Siem Reap.

Indeed, the vessel underwent a pause in operations due to extensive renovations that have profoundly reshaped its character, blending French colonial elegance and Khmer style with comfort and luxury. This transformation aims to offer unforgettable voyages through the enchanting landscapes of Southeast Asia.

The extensive refurbishment of the ship includes redesigned areas in both public and accommodation spaces, accompanied by numerous technical upgrades to ensure compliance with the latest safety requirements. A highlight of the changes is the complete overhaul of the restaurant structure, featuring comfortable seating integrated with an open kitchen that will provide guests with a unique culinary experience on board.

The relaunch of Heritage Line Jayavarman has given rise to the conceptualization of culinary-themed journeys with the intention of enhancing the dining experience for guests. This is achieved through the introduction of the open kitchen concept, distinguishing the “new” Jayavarman from other vessels on the Mekong River. The restaurant has been completely redesigned to create a more pleasant dining atmosphere, with chefs cooking live and a revamped seating arrangement that includes both intimate seating and larger tables for communal use.

In the open kitchen, the culinary team will prepare various dishes live, inviting guests to observe their skills and the preparation of local and international dishes using fresh ingredients. This unique setup allows guests to learn about dishes, ingredients, cooking techniques, and more. In addition to savoring local and regional cuisine, guests can gain insights into the art of cooking, creating a richer and more engaging culinary journey.

However, the culinary adventure on board the Heritage Line Jayavarman extends well beyond the confines of the ship’s restaurant. Almost every day, guests will have the opportunity to participate in cultural tours along the Mekong shores or engaging food-themed outings, all at no additional cost. These culinary excursions provide guests with a glimpse into regional cuisine, local food, and recipes at each port of call.

In addition to the restaurant, public areas have also undergone a transformation, featuring refined furniture and settings. All cabins have been meticulously renovated, with Superior cabins now offering more space thanks to new furnishings and additions, and suites improved with both new furniture and an expansion of living space. Furthermore, the ship now has an additional pair of connected cabins in the Deluxe category (and another in the Superior category). Technical areas have been significantly upgraded with the addition of generators, an updated AC system, and a new engine, providing a much more comfortable overall cruise experience.

Embarkation

AM : Welcome on board with Heritage Line for your Mekong River adventure. After you have checked in, we invite you to a highlight of this cruise before we lift the anchor. The lounge is set up for an eye- and ear-catching lecture about modern Cambodian history, held by our friend and local expert, Mr. Jean-Michel, professor from the Royal University of Phnom Penh. He has studied the subject extensively and is more than happy to share his first-hand knowledge and surprising insights. The lecture takes about one hour before we set sail southbound towards the Vietnamese border.

PM : The rest of the morning and the whole afternoon is at your own disposal. From now on here, you can turn into cruise mode and hopefully experiences the relaxing influence of the cadence this mighty river emanates. The afternoon is perfect for massages, relaxation on a terrace deck sunbed or private balcony kick-backs. Conjure up a spell to merge with the river and float into a state of mild bliss.

You also may like to visit the bridge, as the captain always has a little story to share about “his” river. Or, if you are curious to learn more about Khmer gastronomy, join a culinary workshop to sharpen your knowledge about local cuisine.

As you sip drinks and nibble on treats during afternoon tea, we approach the border and finally arrive in Vietnam. From here it is just a short distance to Tan Chau, a pleasant, slow-paced border town with a sizeable Chinese, Kinh and Khmer community. We moor near the city with views on the riverbanks.

Jayavarman-Mekong-Cruise-Ship

Tan Chau, My An Hung & Sa Dec

AM : Welcome to the fish sanctuary of Vietnam. Once arrived on-shore, we hop on “xelois” to see Tan Chau’s vibrant town-life. A “xeloi” is a local vehicle which is still used as a taxi in this area. Your personal xeloi driver slowly navigates through the streets to observe all the workshops, houses and shops while feeling the laid-back vibe of this place. We stop at the colourful, local market near one of the town’s temples. This is a great opportunity to interact with the vendors of this friendly town and try your hand at bargaining with them.

To see what Tan Chau is famous for, we board local boats and head to a floating fish farm.

PM : Back on board and before lunch is served, you may take a dip in the pool. After the meal, our expert guides offer a presentation about life in the Mekong Delta as the ship continues to My An Hung near Sa Dec province.

My An Hung Village is a wonderful example of a real local village in the Mekong Delta. Time stands still here and we receive wonderful insights into the private household of a local family and visit the seasonal vegetable fields to see what they are currently cultivating. We are invited to their house for a Vietnamese tea tasting. Vietnamese tea is often bitter, so locals sweeten it with honey, a regional delicacy also produced by our hosts. The family then presents a huge variety of fruits growing in the delta, freshly cut from the tree. And as an artist group performs a traditional, artistic dragon dance, we snack on these “vitamins bombs”.

The sun sets and the light now bathes everything in a golden hue. The surrounding natural beauty is a perfect backdrop for a riverbank gathering with cocktails and dancing with the crew in this remote, secluded location.

Jayavarman’s Pearl of the Orient Downstream Day Two – Boat Side View LOCATION Mekong River DAY 2 / 4 Binh Thanh Island, Cai Be & My Tho

AM : This morning the vessel arrives at one of the larger islands in the vast stream of the Mekong, Binh Thanh Island. Several communities have settled here and make their living by growing water hyacinths.

We exclusively visit one of these untouched areas. By wandering through the village, we get a deep understanding of native life. One of the local artisans, for example, demonstrates the entire process of traditional mat making. You can try weaving yourself. We also meet a local elderly couple who share their story of living on this island. They are always happy to chit-chat with our guests.

PM : Back on the ship lunch is served and we sail towards Cai Be. Cai Be is a charming town which is famous for its Catholic French church and the manufacturing of traditional crafts and food products. The once enormous floating market of Cai Be gets smaller year by year since trading on the water is continually shifting towards modern markets. However, you can still see boat-to-boat trading of local goods, such as fruits and agricultural products and imagine what this must have looked like on a larger scale. We learn from our guide about the long-lasting trading culture and how each boat has a special marker to let buyers know what goods they are selling.

By local boat, we sail along the green canal network and watch the farmers working in the fields. A visit ashore of a workshop shows us the manufacturing of rice paste, rice paper, rice cookies and rice wine. Cai Be’s surrounding areas are covered by palm trees, which is why the region is also famous for the production of coconut candy.

Back on board our crew invites you to a farewell event and to enjoy some cheerful moments before dinner, including music and Cambodian dancing together with the team. Savour your final dinner aboard and relive the week’s adventures in your mind’s eye with a glass of wine at the open bar.

Disembarkation

AM : Enjoy your last breakfast aboard your floating home. We disembark the ship after breakfast and take a bus transfer from My Tho to Saigon. It is only around 70 kilometres on the highway, and you arrive in Saigon by mid-morning.

We hope you enjoyed this fascinating river cruise, just as our crew does every single time. Moreover, take the enchanting memories and friendships along with you and share the stories of this amazing river – the Mighty Mekong.

AM : We greet our guests in the morning at our welcome lounge in Saigon. Kick back with a second coffee as our staff collects your details for boarding. We bid farewell to the hustle and bustle of Saigon and travel 70 kilometres south over land towards My Tho to embark on our vessel. After checking into your luxurious floating “home” for the next several days, your first inclination may be to step on your balcony to watch the ship set sail on its fascinating Mekong River voyage.

PM : A lunch buffet is served in the restaurant while the vessel steadily glides upstream.

It is often stated that “nautical air” makes you hungry, so you are cordially invited to our afternoon tea in the open-air bar as twilight bathes the Mekong Delta in a golden haze. Get to know your fellow travellers while enjoying some tasty treats. The rest of this cruising day is fully yours to relax on your private balcony or be pampered by our therapists at the Apsara Spa.

While you savour your delightful dinner, the ship reaches Cai Be. This historic town was established in the 19th century by Vietnam’s last ruling family, the Nguyen dynasty, on the Mekong River where three provinces meet: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Ben Tre. Cai Be would later become the surrounding region’s predominant water-based trading hub, as we will see in tomorrow’s visit to the floating market. We anchor mid-stream near Cai Be and moor there overnight. If you are in the mood for some evening entertainment, there is a cinema in the lounge showcasing classic movies and interesting documentaries on a nightly basis.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

AM : We greet our guests in the morning at our welcome lounge in Siem Reap. With a last glance back, we bid farewell to the iconic sights of Angkor and travel southeast over land to the town of Kampong Cham, where the ship awaits us (approximately 4.5 hrs transfer time including rest stop) To keep you entertained during the ride, our expert guides share interesting insights about Cambodia and the region we journey through.

Kampong Cham is an important trade and transportation hub. The highway connecting the town and the capital of Phnom Penh is among the best maintained in Cambodia, and the country’s first bridge across the Mekong (Kizuna Bridge) was built here in 2001.

When moving into your staterooms upon boarding, your first inclination might be to step on your balcony to watch the ship set sail for a southbound journey on the mighty Mekong.

PM : This afternoon you learn more about the education of the young Cambodian generation. Children from the small village of Chiro come on board, always excited to show their skills in music and dance. The Organization for Basic Training (OBT) provides a free, supplemental education in English, maths, and the arts to these local youths. Shower the young performers with applause and in return, you are bestowed upon with the most genuine and happy Cambodian smiles. With smiles on our faces, we prepare to leave the ship for a bus excursion to a nearby spectacle only present during the Mekong’s low water season (December to May). The Koh Paen Bamboo Bridge connects the mainland with Koh Paen Island and is re-built by the local community every November when water levels drop.

We continue our land journey to the enchanting pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey (7th century). Formerly built to honor the Hindu god, Hirahara, the complex is now a Buddhist temple, a testament to the country’s past and present religious beliefs. This small complex sits on a hilltop with breath-taking views over the Mekong. Many young, novice monks live on the compound of Wat Hanchey, and we have the chance to observe a bit of their daily lives: eating simple meals, praying, studying, or hanging out and making conversation while in their saffron-coloured robes.

Jayavarman’s Serenity Cruise Downstream Day One – Boat Side View LOCATION Siem Reap – Kampong Cham DAY 1 / 5 Kampong Cham, Oknha Tey & Kampong Chhnang

Today, the small village of Angkor Ban is our first destination. The village is famous for its unspoiled community and beautiful, traditional houses. It feels like being transported back a hundred years, into an era unaffected by modernity where villagers are characterized by their unbridled warmth.

PM : Back on board, a monks’ blessing ceremony delivers spirits and wishes for health and prosperity for us all. While we sail downstream, afternoon tea is offered at the bar. Our staff is keen to show you a variety of traditional Khmer fashion the local people still wear on special occasions. Conversely, the ubiquitous Cambodian scarf, the Krama, is a garment worn by people of all ages and walks of life. This multi-functional attire is worn not just around the neck, but also as a bandanna, facemask, belt, swimwear, and even as a hammock to carry children.

Meanwhile we arrive at the island of Koh Oknha Tey. This spot in the middle of the Mekong owes its fame to manufacturing high-class silk products. We go sightseeing along the island’s roads a bit via tuk tuk before arriving at the village’s workshops and witnessing the curious process of making silk, starting from a tiny silkworm larva to cocoon, then dyeing, spinning and weaving the fibres into high-quality Cambodian silk.

After some additional cruising time, we pass the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Rivers, and the boat anchors near Kampong Chhnang for the night.

Jayavarman-Mekong-Lounge-650x425

Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Tralach & Phnom Penh

AM : After a sumptuous breakfast, we are now at Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia’s “water world”, where everything is balanced on sticks in water-rich soil. It is perhaps the most fascinating cruising spot in Cambodia. We take a local boat to the shore and hop on a mini bus to reach a quite unique, nearby rural village. As we explore the village on foot our guide reveals the village’s specialties – Khmer style pottery and the process of making of palm sugar from the Cambodian “skor t’not” palm tree.

We drive back to the shore where our local boat starts an exploration of nearby floating villages and the surrounding wetlands. Although we are still in the heartland of Cambodia, the residents of these floating villages are actually of Vietnamese descent who were expelled by the Khmer Rouge and soon returned after the ruling party was overthrown in 1979. No longer having land to settle on, they have since lived “on the water”.

PM : Back on board and with lunch ready in the restaurant, the vessel continues cruising languidly along the Tonle River towards Kampong Tralach. This part of the Tonle River is quite interesting to watch from the terrace as the river at certain points is very, very narrow. The boat glides through leafy swaths of this jungle-like landscape. We reach Kampong Tralach, where laughing children wave enthusiastically at our arrival.

We are in the middle of Cambodia’s countryside where – surprise – traditional ox carts are still a common means of transportation. Our ox-powered vehicle takes us on a journey along the riverside and through back roads lined with rice-paddy fields until we arrive at a tiny village. Beginning a few short years ago, local children have had the chance to receive an education here. The “Green School” is a local project supported by Heritage Line in this remote area to support the underprivileged youth. The students, who are dressed in green shirts, are always happy to meet us every week as the principal gives an introduction and updates us on the current situation of the school.

AM : Welcome to Phnom Penh – the city once named Paris of the East. Despite its rapid development, it has retained its rustic charm and elegance. It is an amazing town with centuries of incredible history and culture which can still be felt at many street corners.

We start with a full sight-seeing tour right after breakfast. By bus, we visit the Killing Fields outside the city and afterwards the centrally located prison “S21”. Both historic sites display the sad and cruel chapter of the country’s history when the Khmer Rouge ruled Cambodia with terror and oppression. Those places have not changed much since this horrific time back in the early seventies and it can be quite heart-breaking. Alternatively, you may explore the city on your own in the morning before re-joining the group.

PM : We have a lunch at a well-renowned restaurant in town and experience the elegant air Phnom Penh’s top addresses are known for. Our exploration of Phnom Penh continues with the cultural highlights of the city’s heritage. The golden edifice of the Royal Palace with its Silver Pagoda and the exceptional Khmer crafts at the National Museum top the list of the city’s must-sees. The day trip ends with a “cyclo” ride along the bustling streets of downtown Phnom Penh and back to the ship.

Take some rest or join fellow passengers at the bar for refreshing drinks. Today’s evening is a special one: let us invite you to a wonderful open air gala featuring a barbecue dinner feast. The dinner is accompanied by a classic Apsara dance performance along with other folklore dances.

As the evening unwinds, enjoy your supper with a good glass of wine and marvel at the skyline of Phnom Penh and the calming flow of the Tonle River.

AM : Our staff offers a friendly welcome aboard and offers you some refreshments as you settle into your luxurious “home” for the next few days.

In the early evening, the lounge is set up for an eye- and ear-catching lecture about modern Cambodian history, held by our friend and local expert, Mr Jean-Michel, professor from the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Receiving first-hand knowledge from our lecturer who has studied the subject extensively and in-person is a highlight of this cruise.

We reach Kampong Tralach, where laughing children wave enthusiastically at our arrival and traditional ox carts are still a common means of transportation. Our ox-powered vehicle takes us on a journey along the riverside and through back roads lined with rice-paddy fields until we arrive at a tiny village. Beginning a few short years ago, local underprivileged children have had the opportunity to receive an education at the “Green School”, a local project supported by Heritage Line. The students, who are dressed in green shirts, are always happy to meet us every week as the principal gives an introduction to the students and the school.

PM : While we sail upstream, lunch is served and afterwards our crew displays a variety of traditional Khmer fashion locals wear on special occasions. Conversely, the Cambodian scarf, the Krama, is a garment worn by people of all ages and walks of life not just around the neck, but also as a bandanna, facemask, belt, swimwear, and even as a hammock to carry children.

Later in the day, the ship cruises along the narrow Tonle River towards the most fascinating cruising spot in Cambodia, Kampong Chhnang’s “water world”, where everything is balanced on sticks in water-rich soil. We take a local boat to the shore and hop on a mini bus to reach a nearby, unique rural village to explore the village’s specialties – Khmer style pottery and the process of making of palm sugar from the Cambodian “skor t’not” palm tree.

We drive back to the shore where our local boat starts an exploration of nearby floating villages. Although we are in the heartland of Cambodia, the residents of these floating villages are actually of Vietnamese descent who were expelled by the Khmer Rouge and soon returned after the ruling party was overthrown in 1979. No longer having land to settle on, they have since lived “on the water”.

Once we are back on board, relax until dinner is served and take in the beautiful countryside and its gentle evening sounds.

Koh Oknha Tey & Kampong Cham

AM : In the early morning, we sail from the lower Tonle River towards the Mekong passing their confluence at Phnom Penh. We arrive at the island of Koh Oknha Tey, which lies in the middle of the Mekong and owes its fame to manufacturing high-class silk products. We go sightseeing along the island’s roads a bit via tuk tuk before arriving at the village’s workshops and witnessing the curious process of making silk, starting from a tiny silkworm larva to cocoon, then dyeing, spinning and weaving the fibres into high-quality Cambodian silk.

Before lunch, our expert guide holds a presentation about the geography of the Mekong River and Tonle Lake along with the unique attributes of the area. Afterwards, a monks’ blessing ceremony delivers spirits and wishes for health and prosperity for all.

PM : The ship sails towards the small Angkor Ban village up in the Mekong River. The village is famous for its unspoiled community and beautiful, traditional houses. It feels like being transported back a hundred years, into an era unaffected by modernity where villagers are characterized by their unbridled warmth.

We continue cruising while dinner is served and the boat finds its overnight spot at the riverbank of Kampong Cham.

Kampong Cham

AM : After a sumptuous breakfast, we leave the ship for enchanting pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey (7th century).

PM : After returning to the ship and partaking in lunch, we stop at the tranquil monastery of Wat Nokor. Although not massive in comparison to the vast complexes of Angkor Wat, Wat Nokor is the largest of its kind in Kampong Cham Province and is distinctive from other temples with its black sandstone walls. Here, we might have the chance to engage in light banter with some of the sociable monks living in the area.

As it is low water season, we may be fortunate enough to visit a nearby spectacle only present during the Mekong’s dry months (December to May). The Koh Paen Bamboo Bridge connects the mainland with Koh Paen Island and is re-built by the local community every November when water levels drop.

We cruise further up the Mekong to visit a local school and learn more about the education of the young Cambodian generation. Children from the Organization for Basic Training (OBT) are provided a free, supplemental education in English, maths, and the arts, and they are always excited to show their skills in music and dance. Shower the young performers with applause and in return, you are bestowed upon with the most genuine and happy Cambodian smiles.

AM : Enjoy your last breakfast on board our floating sanctuary. We disembark the ship for a transfer by bus to the drop off point in Siem Reap.

PM : The transfer takes approximately 4.5 hours including rest stop. To keep you entertained during the ride, our expert guides share interesting insights about Cambodia and the region we journey through. Snacks are provided during the trip. You will arrive in Siem Reap in the early afternoon.

heritage line jayavarman cruise

AM : We greet our guests in the morning at our welcome lounge in Siem Reap. With a last glance back, we bid farewell to the iconic sights of Angkor and travel southeast over land to the town of Kampong Cham, where the ship awaits us (approximately 4.5 hrs transfer time including rest stop). To keep you entertained during the ride, our expert guides share interesting insights about Cambodia and the region we journey through.

We continue our land journey to the enchanting pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey (7th century). Formerly built to honor the Hindu god, Hirahara, the complex is now a Buddhist temple, a testament to the country’s past and present religious’ beliefs.

Back on board you have some downtime before dinner. If you are feeling restless from all the excitement during your first day on the Mekong River, there is a cinema in the lounge showcasing classic movies and interesting documentaries on a nightly basis.

Phnom Penh, Border Crossing & Tan Chau

AM : The lounge is set up for an eye- and ear-catching lecture about modern Cambodian history, held by our friend and local expert, Mr.

From here, even the last passenger turns on their cruise mode and hopefully experiences the relaxing cadence this mighty river emanates. The afternoon is perfect for massages, relaxation on a terrace deck sunbed or private balcony kick-backs. Conjure up a spell to merge with the river and float into a state of mild bliss.

AM : Once arrived on-shore, we hop on “xelois” to see Tan Chau’s vibrant town-life.

Cruise Itineraries

4 days 3 nights, 5 days 4 nights, 8 days 7 nights, 4 days 3 nights: pearl of the orient.

Our 3-Night lower Mekong cruise “Pearl of the Orient” explores the delta’s rich diversity in every facet. The Delta is a powerhouse for agriculture (in particular rice) and fish farming. The pulsating and energetic life on the river stands in stark contrast to the charming and relaxed village life, where locals often make their living with specialized handicrafts.

1. Upstream: Ho Chi Minh – Phnom Penh

Day 1: ho chi minh - my tho - cai be, day 2: cai be - sa dec - tan chau.

While the vessel continues sailing upstream, you can enjoy time to yourself or head to the bar to and enjoy a true Vietnamese coffee as you watch the life on the riverbanks float by. In the afternoon, the Jayavarman reaches the area of Sa Dec and arrives at one of the larger islands in the vast stream of the Mekong, Binh Thanh Island. Back on board, you may take a dip in the pool on the sun deck. In the evening, our expert guide offers a presentation on life on the Mekong Delta as the ship continues sailing to Tan Chau, a pleasant, slow-paced border town near the Cambodian border with a sizeable Chinese, Kinh and Khmer community. Jayavarman Cruise moors near the city with views on the riverbanks.

Day 3: Tan Chau - Border crossing - Phnom Penh

Wake up early to witness the spectacular scenery at the break of dawn and join our daily morning Tai Chi class. Afterwards, a rich breakfast buffet awaits. Welcome to the fish sanctuary of Vietnam. Once on shore, we see Tan Chau’s vibrant town-life as we hop on “xelois. Your personal xeloi driver slowly navigates through the streets to observe all the workshops, houses and shops while feeling the laid-back vibe of this place. We stop at the colorful, local market near one of the town’s temples. To see what Tan Chau is famous for, we board local boats and head to a floating fish farm. Back on board Jayavarman Cruise, we sail towards the Vietnamese-Cambodian border. Get ready for a fascinating and leisurely cruise through the deep Cambodian countryside towards Phnom Penh. The whole afternoon is at your own disposal. It is perfect for massages, relaxation on a terrace deck sunbed or private balcony kick-backs. Conjure up a spell to merge with the river and float into a state of mild bliss. You also may like to visit the bridge as the captain always has a little story to share about “his” river. Or, if you are curious to learn more about Khmer gastronomy, join a culinary workshop to sharpen your knowledge about local cuisine. After some additional cruising time back aboard, the Jayavarman Cruise arrives and docks at the pier of Phnom Penh. Feel free to go out and explore by yourself after dinner. Stroll along the river promenade and watch the locals chit-chatting, selling odds and ends or have a drink in one of the numerous bars.

Day 4: Phnom Penh

Enjoy your last breakfast aboard your floating home before disembarking the ship. We hope you enjoyed this fascinating river cruise, just as our crew does every single time. Moreover, take the enchanting memories and friendships along with you and share the stories of this amazing river – the Mighty Mekong.

2. Downstream: Phnom Penh – Ho Chi Minh

Day 1: phnom penh - border crossing - tan chau.

The rest of the morning and the whole afternoon is at your own disposal.

Questions & answers, are transfers to and from the ship included.

Ho Chi Minh (7- and 3-night cruises): the cruise company provides a 2-hour transfer via shuttle bus to and from the ship docking point in My Tho and the Renaissance Riverside Hotel , located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh in District 1.

Phnom Penh (3- and 4-night cruises): The embarkation/disembarkation point is located in the city center. You will have to manage transfers to/from here. Siem Reap (7- and 4-night cruises):

  • Low water cruises (mid-November to late August): We provide shuttle bus transportation (4.5 hours) to/from the ship mooring point in Kampong Cham to Victoria Angkor Hotel & Spa in central Siem Reap.
  • High water cruises (late August to mid-November): Passengers will need to arrange a private transfer from the Siem Reap Pier to the city (45 minutes) or airport (1 hour). The cruise staff can assist you with arranging transportation.

What should I wear during on-shore excursions

We recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing made of cotton or modern material that can readily cool off sweat and body hear. The type of shoes will depend on the excursion types so best to have both light, open toed shoes as well as good walking/hiking shoes with you. A sun hat is always a good idea to bring along. Southern Vietnam and Cambodia are warm all year-round, but our other cruise destinations can get chilly during the winter months (Laos, Myanmar or northern Vietnam). Therefore, it is always recommended to bring a pullover or a warm jacket with you during this period. Many of our cruises include visits to local temples or pagodas. When visiting these holy sites, make sure to wear appropriate clothing which covers your shoulders and knees.

Will I encounter sea sickness ?

Generally speaking, the rivers we are cruising on in Southeast Asia are very calm and there is hardly any motion on any of our ships. A bit of motion can occur during monsoon rains with stormy winds, but the amount of motion is much less than one would feel during bad weather on the open ocean. Sea cruises as we offer in Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay can sometimes encounter heavier waters and ship motion, although this happens very rarely and port authorities will most likely not allow sailing under any such circumstances anyway. If you are new to cruising or prone to motion sickness, it does not hurt to bring along some motion sickness medication. Drinking a nice hot fresh ginger tea is a natural remedy and tasty alternative our staff is always happy to make for you.

Are there any foods that I should avoid during my cruise (on- & off-shore)?

All food and beverage on board is completely safe to eat and enjoy, including the ice cubes you enjoy in your chilled drinks. We do not recommend drinking water straight from the tap anywhere, including onboard. We provide you with complimentary clean drinking water throughout your cruise. You may want to be bit careful with local dishes as they can be spicier than you are used to from home. Approach new dishes slowly and carefully. If you have a sensitive stomach, then you may like to double check with our chef or onboard managers about specific dishes or meals. On excursions, it may be a good idea to avoid local foods and snacks unless offered by our tour guides. Besides the above, in general we recommend the following motto for your pre- and post-cruise travelling in the Southeast Asian tropics: boil it, peel it, cook it, wash it or forget it!

Are there any health risks that I should be aware of?

The most effective protection from personal contamination is ensuring strict attention to personal hygiene and in particular, frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and water and refraining from hand-to-mouth contact. Colds and other viruses can spread quickly in an enclosed area such as a ship. Continue to practice common-sense hygiene and respiratory courtesy. Wash your hands often and cover your coughs and sneeze. It is recommended that passengers carry anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, which does not require rinsing with water. Use sanitizer frequently and throughout the day, particularly after shore excursions and prior to meals. If you have any questions regarding your health or safety, please do not hesitate to ask your cruise director.

Motion sickness can be a problem for some people when cruising, flying or travelling on coaches and trains and it is a good idea to take precautionary measures. Over-the-counter drugs for treating motion sickness can be purchased at pharmacies in most countries, though a side effect can by drowsiness. Alternatives such as ginger tablets and acupressure wristbands are also available and work well for some people.

What are the visa requirements for Cambodia?

Cambodia visas are easily obtained for most travelers on arrival. Note that passports must have a validity of at least 6 months after your last date of travel in Cambodia. Because travel restrictions across Southeast Asia are constantly changing, we recommend checking with the Cambodia embassy/consulate in your home country for the latest information.

What are the visa requirements for Vietnam?

With the exception of visa exemptions, all travelers must arrange their visa prior to arrival in Vietnam. Passports must also have a validity of at least 6 months after your last date of travel in Vietnam. Because travel restrictions across Southeast Asia are constantly changing, we recommend checking with the Vietnam embassy/consulate in your home country for the latest information.

What are the visa requirements for Laos?

Laos visas are easily obtained for most travelers. Note that passports must have a validity of at least 6 months after your last date of travel in Laos. Because travel restrictions across Southeast Asia are constantly changing, we recommend checking with the Laos embassy/consulate in your home country for the latest information.

Do I need insurance? If so, which ones are recommended?

We recommend at least purchasing travel health insurance which covers both in- & outpatient visits and medical repatriation. Buying additional trip cancellation and interruption coverage may also be beneficial in case you have to cancel your travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances.

Do I need to bring electrical adapters?

We always recommend bringing a travel adapter as a standard item in your travel kit. You can borrow an adapter on board, but these may be limited.

It is customary in Asia to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is expected - though not compulsory - and shows an expression of satisfaction with the people who have assisted you on your tour. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from $5-$7 USD per person per day depending on the quality and length of the service.

Electricity

Indochina Countries use 220V, and a mixture of flat 2-pin, round 2-pin or 3 pin plugs. It is recommended to bring a universal plug adapter.

We serve a  buffet lunch  as we sail up the river. In the evening light, mingle with other guests over canapés and prosecco.

By dinner, we'll be near  Tan Phong Island , anchoring for the night. This gives you a preview of where our land exploration begins tomorrow. End the day with  classic movies or documentaries  in our onboard cinema.

Get up early to catch the beautiful sunrise and start the day with Tai Chi, followed by a big breakfast. We'll take a local boat to the quiet  Tan Phong island  in the Mekong River.

In Cai Be, we'll see how locals make rice paper, cookies, wine, and coconut candies by hand. Then, we head to Tan Phong Island to visit  a family's fruit garden  and taste different tropical fruits. A buggy ride shows us the island's daily life, and we'll also see a family weaving crafts from water hyacinth plants by hand.

Relax on your balcony or at the bar as we sail upstream. By afternoon, we reach  Sa Dec  and stop near Binh Thanh Island, where the locals sustain themselves by cultivating water hyacinths. Walking through the village, you'll witness the complete traditional mat-making process and meet a local couple who've lived here their whole lives and like talking with visitors.

Before dinner, come to the lounge for a talk about life in the Mekong Delta as we head to our overnight spot in Tan Chau.

We continue up the river, entering Cambodia and moving towards Phnom Penh. The afternoon is free for you to relax and enjoy the cruise. You can opt for a spa session, lounge on the sun deck, or chill on your balcony. The captain might share a story about the river as we go. Also, our chefs offer a cooking workshop on Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine. We'll dock in Phnom Penh, either in the river or at the pier.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap 5 Days 4 Nights

  • Explore the timeless story of the fascinating Phnom Penh city by visiting its famous landscapes
  • Experience firsthand the unique lifestyle of local villagers in the quaint ancient village of Angkor Ban
  • Visit the pre-Angkorian temple of WatHanchey to learn more the long lasting history of the country
  • Enjoy the endless charm of the great Tonle Sap Lake

Our crew gives you a warm welcome early in the morning when you check into your fancy "home" for the next few days.

After breakfast, we start our city tour with a cyclo ride, visiting landmarks like the  Royal Palace  and  Silver Pagoda , then the  "S21" prison , reminding us of the Khmer Rouge era. Lunch in town will be followed by a visit to one of the country's most famous history museums,  "Sosoro" , and a walk in the  French Quarter , ending at  Wat Phnom .

Tonight, join us for a talk in the lounge, followed by an outdoor barbecue, gala dinner, and  Apsara dance . Afterward, you're free to enjoy Phnom Penh's night scene or the riverfront.

As dawn breaks, we sail into the  Tonle River , surrounded by Cambodia's stunning landscapes.

Our first visit is to the famous Koh Chen's  Silver Smith Village , where 400 families create beautiful silver, copper, and brass items, some of which have graced Phnom Penh's Royal Palace.

During our upstream journey, enjoy lunch and a showcase of traditional  Khmer attire  for special events.

We then reach  Kampong Laeang , opposite the pottery hub of Kampong Chhnang. A tuk-tuk ride takes us into rural Cambodia, where we'll see pottery making, visit an ancient pre-Angkorian temple, and view the expansive floodplains and rice fields (depending on the season).

After getting back on the ship, we start heading downstream towards Kampong Tralach, where we'll stop for the night.

Afternoon:  Besides the usual cultural trip, this food-themed outing lets you join a cooking demo. Learn to make a popular snack called “Nom Kruak,” a cake from white or brown rice. Unique because it's cooked on both sides, unlike traditional one-sided cakes, the Khmer people created this tasty treat often enjoyed by locals before dinner.

This morning, we're off to explore the countryside near  Kampong Tralach . We'll ride in a cart pulled by oxen, passing by beautiful rice fields until we reach a small village. There, we'll learn about a local  NGO school  and library project run by a local group. Besides, you can visit  an old temple  and  Buddha shrine  that's been around for nearly 300 years.

As we head downstream, passing Phnom Penh to enter the Mekong River, we'll share a talk about these rivers.

Near where the Tonle and Mekong Rivers meet, we find Prek Bangkong,  a village famous for silk weaving . It used to be home to the Royal family. Today, the highlight is the silk weavers, who make silk from scratch. We'll get to see how they do it up close. Our visit ends at the historic home of  H.E. Sam-El , a well-known royal architect.

We'll spend the rest of the day cruising up the Mekong to where we'll stay for the night. Chill by the pool with a cocktail during sunset, with some music to set the mood, before having dinner and watching a movie in the evening.

Start the day with morning Tai Chi before we explore  Angkor Ban . Visit a monastery and the village behind it, where you can chat with monks and locals. Walking through the village, you'll see the local lifestyle up close, making great memories of Cambodia's countryside. This charming village is perfect for photos and meeting the community.

We head to  Kampong Cham  during lunch.

In Kampong Cham, a key trade spot by the Mekong River, small villages around the town showcase the locals' craftsmanship, like in  Cheung Kok  where they make handmade goods. The  seasonal Bamboo bridge  nearby is not just for crossing; it connects us to history.

Then, the ship heads to its last stop, anchoring in the middle of the river near Stueng Trang, with a goodbye party vibe on the way.

Morning:  Today's food-themed trip has a special part. Besides seeing Angkor Ban village, we'll visit Mr. B's house. He once cooked on the Jayavarman ship and now lives in his wife's village. With his mother-in-law and wife, who's the main cook, we'll make an old fish soup called “Samlor Korko.” It's full of veggies, spices, herbs, and roasted rice, served with a duck egg omelette.

Have your last breakfast with us before we leave the ship and take a  4-hour bus  ride to  Siem Reap . Our guides will keep you interested with facts about Cambodia on the way. We hope you loved the cruise and made great memories and friends. Share your stories of the great Mekong River.

You'll get to Siem Reap by early afternoon.  End of services.
