It is the first market to go to many homes and works from a long time within the community. The Spinney store is located behind Crystal Plaza on King Faisal Road. Smaller restaurants such as Al Urooj Grocery or Al Urooj Supermarket as it is called, Al Mustashar Grocery and Al Madinah Al Khadhra Grocery can be found in Abu Shagara. Citizens can find a variety of products at City Center Supermarket or as it is also known as New City Center Supermarket, Choitrams and Venicia Supermarket. Apart from this, Al Madina Supermarket, Kraz Supermarket, Amber Supermarket and a few others are available to the public.

CHURCHES, TEMPLE AND MOSQUES

Abu Shagara Muslims are evenly distributed. These include the Habbab Ibn Al Munther Mosque, the Al Bara’a Ibn Malik Mosque and the Al Salam Mosque. Also, the famous Al Noor Mosque is a short distance from Abu Shagara. Built with ancient Ottoman-inspired designs, the most visited mosque is characterized by its fascinating craftsmanship. The place of worship is one of the most popular tourist attractions. The beautiful mosque also has guided tours organized by the Sharjah Center for Cultural Communication. Members of the Christian community can find several churches nearby. A group of local churches in Al Yarmook is about 10 minutes from Abu Shagara. This includes the Catholic Church St. Michael, the Russian Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church of St. As for the temples, they are not in the Sharjah at the moment. However, residents can visit Shiva Temple and Shrinath Ji Temple in Dubai. Getting to the temples from Abu Shagara to the Bur Dubai area will take about 25 minutes. Sikh Gurudwara and Sindhi Gurdarbar are also a few temples in Bur Dubai.

One can find a few kindergartens and schools near Abu Shagara, focusing on neighboring communities. For young children, parents can decide between Al Lulu Nursery and Al Farha Nursery; both are far apart. One can also reach a few high schools in Sharjah India in a short drive. Following the Indian curriculum, the Sharjah Indian School is 6 to 10 minutes drive away from the area. Next to it is Happy Home English School, which follows the British Curriculum. Apart from this, parents can also choose Progressive English School and Radiant School in the nearby Al Yarmook community. In higher education, the Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Study is a long way off. In addition, University of Sharjah University universities are available for about 20 minutes by car. One can find a variety of well-known universities including American University of Sharjah, University of Sharjah and Skyline University College.

CLINICS AND HOSPITALS

Aster Clinic, Thumbay Clinic and Dr Ashok Menon Medical Center are all available to the public. There is also Right Medical Center which provides specialized health care services including dentistry, plastic surgery, gynecology and obstetrics. There are several hospitals near Abu Shagara. This includes Medcare and Sharjah Corniche Hospital, both of which are known for providing premium medicine.

There are few shopping centers in the area, while locals can also find supermarkets near Abu Shagara. The 4-story center for mixed use, Mega Mall Sharjah, is 7 minutes by car from the public. The mall has local and international brands as well as restaurants, a family theme park and a cinema. City Center Sharjah has another shopping mall near the residents. Within 10 minutes, the mall offers a wide range of high-end sales options. Located on King Faisal Street, residents can also visit the Safe Market to shop.

Restaurants

You can find various restaurants in Abu Shagara including many Asian and South Asian restaurants. The Indian restaurant Malabar Regency Restaurant attracts many diners every day. Other restaurants include Kamat Restaurant, Bab Abu Shagarah Restaurant and Cancun Restaurant. Apart from this, Shakespeare and Co and the Lebanese restaurant Zaroob are a long way off. For a bite or a quick snack, residents can also head to McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut and Krispy Kreme within 10 minutes by car.

Beaches Beaches near Abu Shagara include Al Khan Beach and Al Mamzar Beach Park. Al Khan Beach is located near Abu Shagara, 14 minutes away by car. The beach offers a variety of sports activities including kite surfing, banana boat rides, parasailing rides and water sports. Not only this, but visitors can also enjoy a variety of new foods and drinks while relaxing on the beach. Al Mamzar Beach is preferred for opposition and grinding and is about 20 minutes from Abu Shagara. There are many fun activities in Al Mamzar Beach Park for children and adults alike.

Every second-generation expatriate - who has spent a few years studying and living in Sharjah or Dubai - has either lived in Abu Shagara for some time or definitely knows someone who has spent their entire lives in the neighbourhood. "You lived in Abu Shagara while in school? Hey, me too!" or "Oh, you're from Abu Shagara; I know so many people who live or have lived in the area" - is how several conversations would go. Abu Shagara remains one of the most thickly populated areas in Sharjah. The Abu Shagara Park is also one of the most popular and largest residential parks in the emirate. With no shortage of flats across different price ranges, apartment buildings in the area are very popular for expatriate families. The preferred residential destination of both expatriate and local residents, Abu Shagara is a favourite for families with children because of its accessibility to schools, hospitals, supermarkets, and an array of other public and private facilities. However, easy access is not one of Abu Shagara's greatest charms. Perfect for families A 31-year-old mother of two who is a long-time resident of the area, Indian national Susan Anne Kurian, said: "My mother was a school teacher when we lived in Abu Shagara. I lived here all my life. I studied in a school nearby, and I moved to Canada to pursue my bachelor's degree. Today, I am back in the area, and I have two children. I find it so comforting to be here . Rents are affordable and parking is not a nightmare anymore." Daniel Stalin, Anne's husband, said: "Earlier, Abu Shagara had a serious parking problem given the large number of used car showrooms that were present in the area. In 2016, all the showrooms were asked to be moved. Since then, car parking was no longer an issue. "Everything is nearby. There are hospitals, supermarkets and everything families need. Since constructions have been maxed out in the area - as there are very few empty plots of land left in Abu Shagara - residents are not bothered by the din that usually comes from construction work," he added. Cultural melting pot The neighbourhood also happens to be a cultural melting pot where people of different nationalities live amicably; some are even offering products and services that are unique to their culture. Expatriates from around the world - Egypt, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Yemen, Sri Lanka and several other countries - live together in Abu Shagara, differences notwithstanding. Victoria Diamond, a Pakistani national, has been living in the area for over 30 years now. "There is a sense of nostalgia and comfort in Abu Shagara. Once you become a part of the place, it is very difficult to leave the neighbourhood. I have so many memories here: I finished school and started work and a lot of important things in life here," she said. "Earlier in the mid-90s, there were buildings only up until the park. Now the area has extended and there are so many buildings all the way up to Al Estiqlal street." The main street opposite Choithrams is also a food lover's paradise as there are options for every cuisine on the street. David Balita, a Filipino fitness instructor, said: "I first got introduced to the locality 12 years ago. I moved here as a bachelor and lived with several residents in one apartment. Today, I am married with two children, and we just moved to another residential building in the locality," he explained. Iconic locations According to residents, some of the most iconic buildings and locations in Abu Shagara are the 'bottle building', the Abu Shagara Park, Dr Ashok Menon's Clinic, 'baladiya buildings', Choithrams Supermarket, Hot Burger and the Madina Supermarket building. Muneer T, a grocer in a supermarket at the 'bottle building' said: "We have been around for 25 years. Business is always thriving here because there are always people around." Shyama Rajeesh, a pharmacist, said: "I like the area because it is easily accessible. There is a bus stop, and there are shops and restaurants for everything nearby." [email protected]
