The first sentence is the most important! This is what the reader will see first and your goal is to capture their attention so they click “read more”. If your first sentence is not compelling, they may not read your entire story and you have missed an opportunity to connect with them.

Ask a question. One of the best ways I found to have an engaged audience is to ask them questions in my captions. Everyone loves to talk about themselves and asking them a question is a great way to learn more about your audience and to increase your travel post engagement.

Do not use swear words! The Instagram algorithm is designed to detect swear words and will block your post.

Add a Call to Action. Think about capturing the attention of your readers and directing your Instagram audience to your latest blog post, your Instagram stories, Instagram guides, or anything you would love them to read. An example is “make sure you check out my latest blog post about the best budget hotels in the Maldives. Link in bio.”

Use hashtags beneath your caption. If you add hashtags within your caption, it reduces readability and you have a greater chance of losing the attention of your audience.

Melania Trump was a first lady unlike any other. 

She was the only first lady in almost 200 years to be born outside the US, and the only first lady whose native language isn't English. Trump was also the first first lady to be a former lingerie model.

Her actions as the first lady of the US similarly broke from tradition, winning over loyal fans and sparking questions from conspiracy theorists . Trump also became known for her fashion choices, with fans applauding her designer outfits and critics slamming her expensive tastes. 

On Friday, April 26, she is celebrating her 54th birthday.

Here's what we know about the mysterious former first lady — and the conspiracies and controversies that dogged her during Donald Trump's presidency and beyond. 

Melania Trump was born in Slovenia in 1970, making her the only first lady to have been born outside the US.

The other first lady born outside the US was Louisa Catherine Johnson, the wife of John Quincy Adams. She was born in England, though her father was an American merchant.

She started modeling in the late '80s and moved to New York City to pursue a career in 1996.

While modeling in Europe, Trump reportedly learned to speak six languages, making her the most linguistically gifted first lady in American history, CNN reported.

At a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives in 2023, she recalled navigating a "labyrinth" of paperwork to become a US citizen .

Once she moved to New York, friends say that Trump avoided parties, choosing instead to exercise, go to bed early, and eat healthily.

Inside Edition reported that she consumes seven pieces of fruit a day.

She met Donald Trump at a party in 1998, which he attended with another date.

She refused to give Donald Trump her number at first, but later asked for his and ended up calling him a few days later.

The couple married in 2005 at a star-studded wedding.

Guests included Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, Kelly Ripa, Barbara Walters, Rudy Giuliani, and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Trump's wedding dress was a satin Christian Dior gown that featured 1,500 crystal rhinestones and pearls.

Barron, their son, was born in 2006.

When Donald Trump began his presidential run, Melania Trump was happy to stay in the background, but she wasn't immune to scandal.

Her first major political scandal took place when she appeared to copy parts of her 2016 Republican National Convention speech from a speech Michelle Obama had given at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

The scandal didn't slow down the Trump campaign. Melania Trump officially became the first lady of the United States in January 2017.

Melania Trump and Barron, however, did not immediately move to the White House, staying in New York City until the end of Barron's school year. It was a pricey decision, with security costing roughly $27 million .

When the first lady and the president were together, people had a lot to say about their body language.

During a trip to Israel in May 2017 — Donald Trump's first trip abroad since taking office — much was made of the body language between the pair when Trump appeared to swat her husband's hand away.

In May 2017, Trump faced her first true scandal as first lady when she wore a $51,500 Dolce & Gabbana jacket at the annual G-7 summit in Catania, Italy.

Critics slammed her for wearing an outfit that cost more than most Americans earn in a year .

Trump changed into the more sensible footwear — Timberland work boots  — on the plane.

Donald Trump defended his wife from critics, saying that she had dressed up "out of respect for the White House" and added that she "wants to look good leaving the front entrance."

She also faced drama outside of fashion when Ivana Trump, the president's first wife, called herself the real first lady in October 2017.

Trump's spokeswoman called Ivana's comments "attention-seeking and self-serving noise."

Perhaps the strangest thing to happen to Trump in her first year as first lady was the rise of a bizarre conspiracy theory that she has a body double.

The conspiracy theory was based on little evidence other than one bad photo of Trump and the fact that she had a Secret Service agent who looked strikingly similar to her in some photos.

Trump didn't immediately take on any major political stances as first lady, but she started quietly taking action on a handful of issues by 2018.

Her initiatives included speeches to address bullying and solo trips to speak with those affected by the opioid crisis.

Trump took a major step when she embarked on her first solo international trip in October 2018.

The first lady spent the five-day, four-country tour in Africa exploring programs dedicated to childhood well-being.

The trip was also significant considering it came after Donald Trump had spoken about the continent in vulgar and inaccurate terms .

Over the course of the holidays and through other official duties that came with the Trumps' third year in the White House, Melania Trump established herself as a key figure in the raucous administration.

Along the way, she became the most popular Trump in the White House. A February 2019 Fox News poll had the first lady earning a 47% approval rating after two years in the White House, compared to the president's 43%.

The first lady was the subject of a biography published in December 2019 called "Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography," by CNN's Kate Bennett.

The book detailed little-known details about Trump's fashion, strategy, and life inside the White House, including the fact that she reportedly lived on a separate floor of the residence from her husband.

The year 2020 brought new opportunities for the first lady to appear at the head of the administration, including a trip to India.

Trump also made occasional appearances throughout the coronavirus pandemic, either in front of socially distanced reporters or through video messages.

After her husband lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 election, she notably stayed out of the spotlight.

The New York Times reported in July 2023 that Trump had repeatedly refused her husband's offers to join him at campaign events, though she continued to support him behind the scenes.

Donald Trump told "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker in September that Trump is a "private person" and that he likes to keep her away from campaigning because "it's so nasty and so mean."

Trump appeared to distance herself from Donald Trump's subsequent 2024 reelection campaign until April 2024, when she spoke at a Log Cabin Republicans event.

Coachella Valley seniors have a whale of a time fulfilling bucket list item

My Jump! is a nonprofit organization that helps seniors achieve what’s left on their bucket lists, with a focus on those living with low-incomes.

According to its website, the organization aims to inspire seniors to take a leap of faith in fulfilling their dreams, to sustain relationships and enrich these special individuals long after their experience with My Jump!, to tell stories of fellow seniors who maintain incredible lifestyles in the hopes it will inspire others to do the same and to enrich the lives of as many seniors as possible, including those living in isolation and without the means to fulfill their dreams.

On April 6, 32 individuals from five Coachella Valley senior centers joined together for a thrilling dolphin and whale watching expedition off Dana Point, Calif. They boarded an exclusive private charter on the Manute'a Whale and Dolphin Watching Experience run by Coast Guard-licensed Captain Dave Anderson.

The ocean off Dana Point, which is known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the World,” is teeming with whales, dolphins, sea lions and sharks. As the seniors got to know a boatload of strangers, they had a chance to observe sea animals up close without donning scuba gear, thanks to the ship’s Eye-to-Eye Underwater Viewing Pods.

The adventure was part of a new focus for My Jump!, which has been fulfilling bucket list wishes for low- or fixed-income senior citizens across the country for more than ten years.

"At the early stages of our organization, we were more focused on fulfilling individual bucket list wishes," says the organization's executive director, Webb Weiman, "but in the last few years we've started taking My Jump! in a new direction by trying to serve larger groups in order to create new bonds and friendships. That's why we brought together seniors from five local senior centers here in the Coachella Valley."

The group spent about two and a half exhilarating hours on the boat and saw plenty of sea life off the ship's bow.

"Over the years, we've fulfilled bucket list wishes, including a hot air balloon ride, a ride in a Goodyear Blimp, and a different type of ride — an accelerated ride at the BMW Performance Driving School in Thermal."

The latter event, Weiman says, "started with a gal who's 92 years young saying she had a need for speed."

It's clear Weiman loves his work with MyJump!

At the end of the day, he says, "it's so rewarding to see the level of camaraderie that forms. On the way (to Dana Point), people were strangers and not everyone was speaking to each other. On the way back, you couldn't get people to be quiet. They were on such an adrenaline high. I never get tired of what happens after you fulfill one of these bucket list wishes."

Kourtney Kardashian   looked like she had a very happy birthday celebration for her 45th on Wednesday, April 24. The reality star revealed that she had a birthday breakfast at IHOP on her Instagram Story, reposting a few photos and videos from her friends. It looked like Kourtney and her friends had a blast having breakfast together to celebrate her special day.

Kourtney revealed her “birthday breakfast” was happening at the International House of Pancakes by posting a photo of a large beverage (that appeared to be hot chocolate) with a mug visible that read “Kourt x iHop,” with her name written in a formal font, while the IHOP logo was underneath it. Many of her friends and sisters  Kim   and  Khloé Kardashian   also posted photos of their mugs, which Kourtney also shared.

In the photos, Kourtney was wearing a tiara, which had the words “Happy Birthday” at the top, as well as a skeleton crewneck sweater. She also accessorized with a set of large sunglasses. In one of the videos, she posed with a huge cake, as her friends sang “Happy Birthday” to her. “I have the best friends,” she wrote.

Among the people who shared glimpses from Kourtney’s birthday breakfast were sisters. Kim shared a photo of her mug, while Khloé posted a cute photo of her sister. “I love you my tiny goose,” the Good American founder wrote.

Besides her IHOP breakfast, Kourtney also went on a tropical vacation to kick off her 45th birthday! She shared a few photos from her birthday trip, including a sexy bikini shot on Instagram on Tuesday, April 23. “45 trips around the sun,” she wrote in the caption.

Kim had also shared a sweet tribute to her older sister back on her birthday on April 18. She shared a photo of the two of them as well as Khloé in the ocean in black bikinis. “There’s no one on this planet that I have spent more time with and have all of the same memories with growing up than you, and I cherish them all. Sharing a room and friends and cars and our lives together for four decades has been the most magical journey to have you by my side. I love you, and I can’t wait for another 45 years together!” Kim wrote in the caption.

The Friday Night Lights star and his wife of nearly 30 years prefer to keep their relationship low-key.

While Kyle may be best known for his onscreen relationship with Connie Britton as Coach Eric and Tami Taylor on FNL, his real-life marriage is also a success story.

Kathryn has long been a grounding force for the actor, helping him navigate fame while remaining true to himself.

"She knows who I really am and still appreciates me," Kyle told Men’s Health of their close relationship in 2010. "Here I have a new show, the critics are going crazy, and for a minute you think, ‘How can I reinvent myself?’ But success is attached to being who you are. My wife knows I'm a complete idiot, and she reminds me every day that success is meaningless if I'm pretending to be someone I'm not."

For the actor, his marriage is sacred, and so is the firm foundation of trust he and Kathryn have built.

“There’s a place in Los Angeles called Dog Park,” Kathryn told the Chicago Sun-Times in 1999. “I would take my little Jack Russell terrier there, and sometimes I’d run into Kyle and his dog. So we would kind of smile at each other and do the triple take, but we wouldn’t really do anything about it.”

Kathryn decided to take things into her own hands and told her dog — who she revealed typically didn't listen to her instructions — to jump on Kyle, which the pooch then did, leading to a conversation between the two pet owners.

The family lives in Texas

After years in Los Angeles, Kathryn, Kyle and their daughters moved to a 33-acre ranch outside of Austin, Texas, according to Men's Journal , where animals, and in particular dogs, are a big part of their lives.

"Every time I come home, we have another dog," Kyle told the outlet in 2017. "It's cool. You build a fire on the property and just sit out there, and the dogs stay with you. It's a good feeling."

Prior to the move, the family resided in Topanga Canyon, where Kyle said they lived a very quiet life.

"I like to live simply," the Godzilla star explained to Men's Health in 2010. "My wife is my best friend. We don't go to parties. I believe kids are supposed to get dirty and have fun. When we have people over the house, I'll fire up the grill outside and we'll have good food, but it's potluck. I love what I do, but I don't need the lavish lifestyle that's supposed to go with it."

They run a nonprofit in Texas

Kathryn started a nonprofit, Patriots’ Hall, in Dripping Springs, Texas of which she is a founding board member. Kyle also serves on Patriots' Hall's advisory board. According to the organization's website , it’s a place for veterans “of all ages and military service to explore therapeutic workshops, art classes, weekend campouts, education and employment seminars, family gatherings," and more.

As Kathryn explained on The Kelly Clarkson Show , “There’s so many veterans and families in Texas — the densest is actually right where we’re in the center of."

She added that Patriot's Hall was created as a place, "Just for them to get off the computers, get together, cook, get therapy... That was my brainchild, and then community has just stepped up."

"It’s changed our entire community," Kathryn added.

She and Kyle love to travel

Travel has become an important part of the Chandlers’ marriage after raising their children. “We’ve been married for 27 years. Now it’s that time where the kids have stepped out of the house and we have more time together,” Kyle explained of their empty-nester lifestyle during a 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show .

Instead of a relaxing beach vacation, he revealed that couple opted for a backpacking trip across the Camino de Santiago in Spain — a 500-mile walk, complete with sleeping in bunk beds in hostels. Kyle told Clarkson that they didn’t make it the whole way, but they had “the time of our lives” regardless.

Under the shade of a tamarind tree, the woman cooked aloo-vadi curry with rice. The man also helped his wife as he was seen peeling a cucumber. Later, they were seen relishing their food on a foldable dining table and chairs.

Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile review – a most sickening nostalgia trip

This relentless documentary takes us back in time to meet the women abused by glam-rock star Gary Glitter as children … and the roadies who tried to stop him (and set his wig on fire) 25 years before he finally got caught

D o you remember – it feels so long ago now – the days when it was a shock to find out that a rich, famous, charismatic man had been using his riches, fame and charisma to rape and abuse women and children and cover it up for years and years?

Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile is the bleakest of nostalgia trips, taking us back to those quaint times, before the public Jimmy Savile revelations, before the R Kelly revelations, before the Rolf Harris revelations, before Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein … I could, unfortunately, go on but I think the point is made.

This 90-minute film tells the story with whose main beats we are now grotesquely familiar. We see the fame, this time via plenty of Top of the Pops footage of the glam-rock star Gary Glitter – real name, the name under which he would eventually be prosecuted, Paul Gadd – the high-energy interviews on the likes of Saturday Scene with Sally James, the more stately stuff with Terry Wogan and other chatshow presenters, and even an episode of This Is Your Life that was devoted to him. And, as with most of the documentaries about British celebrity paedophiles and/or abusers, there is a stomach-churning interview with Savile himself from what looks like the late 1980s, by which time they were both well practised in their depravities and giving new meaning to the phrase “hiding in plain sight”. See also Glitter’s 1980 hit What Your Mama Don’t See (Your Mama Don’t Know) replete with lines like “You insist you’re not to be kissed / ’Cause your mama’s not far away … One more glance, I might take a chance / I’m a desperate kind of man.”

We hear, mainly via the prosecuting counsels, from and about the women who would eventually see him convicted of various sex offences. Woman A suffered an attempted rape by 31-year-old Glitter/Gadd in 1975 when she was eight years old. Two other girls, around the age of 12, were raped by him after concerts, their mamas ushered elsewhere by members of the star’s entourage. There is an incident recounted by music journalist Garry Johnson about two men who were hired to work security for a Glitter gig around 1990 who discovered in one of the boxes they were carrying from his van huge numbers of Polaroid photos of children. They confronted him. He cried and offered them money. They refused it and walked off the job, setting fire to his wig on the way. The bathos of the last act should not obscure the fact that this seems to have been the closest his victims got to justice for the next 25 years.

The film assembles its evidence meticulously, relentlessly and unsensationally, including not just the facts that would end up in court but moments that tell us almost more than the lawyers can. There is the fleeting look of absolute terror in Glitter’s eyes when Paula Yates interviews him on the infamous On the Bed segment of The Big Breakfast and asks of his girlfriends: “Are they very young?” Glitter’s relief when she appears to mean women in their early 20s is palpable.

Despite a 1993 story in the News of the World about him having sex with a 14-year-old (attention focused on the photo she had of him without his wig, completely bald) and the rumours that had been swirling for years, it wasn’t until child sexual abuse images were found on a laptop he took in for repair in 1997 that any charges were filed against him. Woman A added her complaint to the charge sheet but the judge reckoned too much time had passed and dropped her case. Woman B, from the News of the World story, was destroyed on cross-examination, and by the judge’s recommendation that the jury should bear in mind that there are 14-year-olds “who look like girls” and 14-year-olds who “look like sophisticated ladies” and consider which category woman B fell into. Gadd was cleared of offences against her, but the public gallery reeled in shock when he pleaded guilty to all the child abuse image charges.

The film slightly rushes the years he then spent in south-east Asia, free to exploit vulnerable children in poorer countries, and the legal systems that effectively function as an international ring of enablers for paedophiles and other abusers. But it does its job in reilluminating the horrors of the past, which are also the horrors of the present and no doubt the horrors of the future too. We have a little more knowledge, a little more awareness, a little more wisdom. Perhaps we are a little more protective. But, as Glitter et al’s long freedom (and usually nugatory sentences if ever caught) show, these terrible, terrible predators are ever in our midst, and we are no closer to ridding ourselves of them.
