The only thing better than sipping a pint of your favorite brew is getting a behind-the-scenes look at where it's made. To determine which breweries offer the best tour experiences, we asked a panel of beer experts to nominate their top brewery tours across the country. Then, our readers voted for their favorites. Here are the 10 best brewery tours in the United States.

No. 10: Samuel Adams - Boston, Massachusetts

Samuel Adams has long been a giant in the Boston beer scene, and visitors are invited to learn more about the history of the company and its famous Boston lager during 45-minute tours of the brewery. Other themed tours focus on cheese pairings and research and development.

No. 9: Stone Brewing - Escondido, California and Richmond, Virginia

San Diego's king of craft beer offers public tours of its Escondido, California, and Richmond, Virginia, production facilities. Beer experts lead visitors through the brewing facility and packaging hall while offering insight into the science of brewing and craft beer culture. Tours end with a tasting and include a souvenir glass.

No. 8: New Belgium Brewing Company - Fort Collins, Colorado & Asheville, North Carolina

Visitors to the New Belgium facilities in both Fort Collins and Asheville are in for a treat. Tours that last 90 minutes include beer sampling as well as stories of the brewery's history and a look at the facilities. After the tour, guests are invited to enjoy beers in the tasting room or grab a bite to eat from a rotating list of visiting food trucks. Free 45-minute Tour Teasers are also available, which include a tour of the Brewhouse and one beer sample.

No. 7: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. - Chico, California and Mills River, North Carolina

Sierra Nevada beer fans have the opportunity to tour brewing facilities in either North Carolina or California. During each 45- to 60-minute interactive tour, visitors trace the process from grain to bottle. Smell whole-cone hops, sample sugary wort, and finish with a guided tasting of Sierra Nevada beers. No. 6: Bell's Brewery - Comstock, Michigan

Bell’s Brewery, one of the oldest craft breweries east of Colorado, started out with a 15-gallon soup pot in 1985. Today, visitors can tour the facilities at both the Comstock and Kalamazoo locations to learn more about the processes of brewing, fermentation, and packaging. Tours include complimentary samples.

No. 5: Spoetzl Brewery - Shiner, Texas

Spoetzl Brewery, the pride of Shiner, Texas, dates back to the early 1900s. Those who take the 45-minute brewery tour will be introduced to the history of Spoetzl, learn about the impact its success has had on the town of Shiner, and have the opportunity to witness the brewing process up close. Tour packages start at $25 per person over 21 years old and include complimentary pours of Shiner beer. 

No. 4: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery - Milton, Delaware

The first-come, first-served $5 tours of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery offer a laid-back journey through the working brewhouse for a chance to watch the magic happen. For beer lovers, Off-Centered tours go into the brewhouse, rackhouse, and R&D system, with stops for tastings along the way.

No. 3: Burial Beer Co. Forestry Camp - Asheville, North Carolina

Burial Beer Co. gives its tour-takers the chance to bring along a guest for free, if they're the designated driver. Of course, they won't get the free samples that everyone else does, but they will get the lowdown on the Asheville brewing scene and the history of Burial during this 1-hour experience. 

No. 2: Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. - Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Visitors to this Chippewa Falls brewery have a few options for tours. The hour-long Legacy Tour covers the 150-plus-year history of Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co., with a stroll through the modern facilities and a visit to the Leinie Lodge. Or spend 90 minutes on a tour with the master brewer, 30 minutes exploring the Leinie Lodge Pilot Brewery, or 90 minutes learning about the history of the brewery and Chippewa Falls.

No. 1: Tröegs Independent Brewing - Hershey, Pennsylvania

Visitors to Hershey can enjoy a 1-hour guided production tour at Tröegs Independent Brewing. The experience includes a behind-the-scenes look at the mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse deck, fermentation cellars, and packaging lines. A welcome beer kicks off the exploration and three more samples are included.

Tröegs was voted top brewery tour in America by USA TODAY readers

Tröegs Independent Brewing of Hershey, well known throughout for beers like the year-round Perpetual IPA and the holiday seasonal beer, Mad Elf Ale, was voted by USA TODAY readers as the No. 1 brewery tour in the country.

The one-hour tour of Tröegs takes visitors on a behind-the-scenes look at the mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse deck, fermentation cellars and packaging lines.

A welcome beer kicks off the experience, and three more beer samples are included in the tour.

Tröegs Independent Brewing is located at 200 E. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. Tours of Tröegs Brewery can be booked online at troegs.com .

A panel of beer experts were asked to nominate their top brewery tour across the country, then USA TODAY readers voted for their favorites.

Among the top 10, two other breweries in the Northeast were voted as top brewery tours: Samuel Adams in Boston, Massachusetts took 10th place, and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery of Milton, Delaware came in fourth.

Mar. 15—A beloved Pennsylvania brewery is once again earning national recognition.

Tröegs Independent Brewing received the top spot among the best brewery tours in the U.S., according to USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Nominees in each category are selected by 10Best editors and topic experts before they are presented to the public for four weeks of online voting.

Here's what you need to know about Tröegs and the best places for craft beer in Pennsylvania.

Tröegs Independent Brewing claims top brewery tour honor

Located in Hershey, just east of Harrisburg, Tröegs Independent Brewing launched in 1996 with a name that plays on co-founders John and Chris Trogner's last name and the Dutch word "kroeg," meaning "pub."

Tröegs operates as a craft brewery with an emphasis on producing specialty and seasonal beers. The brewery was founded in Harrisburg and moved to Hershey in 2011 following the construction of a new facility.

The brewery's award-winning tour offers behind-the-scenes access to Tröegs' mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse deck, fermentation cellars and packaging lines, among other locations. Guests can also peruse an "Art of Tröegs" gallery and receive a free beer of their choice, three samples of Tröegs selections and an exclusive souvenir glass.

"Our tours meander through our working production brewery so you can see how our beer is actually made and the people to make it happen," Tröegs wrote on its website. "If you're uncomfortable climbing and descending multiple stairs, standing for extended periods or spending time in extreme heat or cold, we would encourage you to check out our self-guided tour."

Each 10-person tour takes roughly one hour to complete and costs $15 per person, Tröegs says online. Minors and children are not allowed to join tours, and of-age guests must make sure to bring along a valid ID and wear closed-toed shoes.

According to Tröegs' online booking system, tours are offered Thursday through Sunday each week from late morning through the evening. You can book a tour online by visiting troegs.com/brewery-tours .

Tröegs is known for some of its staple beers like Perpetual IPA and and Troegenator Double Bock. Some popular seasonal flavors include Nugget Nectar, Mad Elf Ale, Oktoberfest Lager and Double Blizzard.

Tröegs' production tour claimed the top spot among USA Today 10Best's "Best Brewery Tour" honors in early March. This year's honorees from across the country were nominated by a panel of beer experts, the outlet said.

Philadelphia breweries range widely in size and scope. There are the pioneering names, like Dock Street, Philadelphia Brewing Co., Sly Fox, Victory and Yards, responsible for sparking the local craft beer renaissance and creating some of Philadelphia’s best-known, and most accessible, craft recipes.

Newer additions like Human Robot, Levante, La Cabra and Brewery ARS have steadily expanded into multiple locations, developing wider brand recognition and distribution throughout the region. The tide on independent full-service brewpubs is rising fast, too, as stalwarts are joined by distinctive standalones (Crime & Punishment, Second District) as well as locally based chains (Conshohocken, Iron Hill).

Innovation and originality are another major hallmark of the Philadelphia scene, with breweries like Fermentery Form, Imprint, Free Will and Forest & Main often garnering international buzz by focusing on esoteric, hard-to-find or altogether new varieties, styles and techniques like fruited sours and milkshake IPAs. Pennsylvania breweries based outside the immediate region, such as Liquid Art and Separatist, and even breweries from further afield, like Other Half and Source, have made an effort to make their presence permanently known in the city with Philadelphia outposts.

All this action is bolstered by a lineup of still-in-the-works concepts, a promising sign that beer here will continue its boom, even in the face of immense challenges rooted in the pandemic.

Beer Tours and Philly Beer Week

Many of the breweries in the five-county region have tours and/or tastings at their facilities, and a number of local groups — including  City Brew Tours ,  Liberty Brew Tours  and  Viator  — offer comprehensive experiences that include multiple breweries across the breadth of Philadelphia’s deep, dynamic beer scene.

Taking place every June, the 10-day  Philly Beer Week is the largest beverage celebration of its kind in America, drawing breweries and visitors from around the country and world.

Philadelphia Beer History

Philadelphians have embraced beer and beer culture since the very beginning of our nation. After all, this is the birthplace of America, and great ideas have been known to hatch over a pint. Case in point: Local taverns served as vital meeting points during the American Revolution, providing the well-stocked gathering spaces required by Founding Fathers and common colonists alike to birth modern democracy.

Philadelphia would also play a crucial role in the wider maturation of American beercraft. In the mid-19th through the early-20th centuries, more than 90 breweries operated in Philadelphia proper, and another 100 operated in the surrounding areas, making it one of the region’s most stable and essential industries.

The brewery uptick came to an end in 1920, when Prohibition brought on the near-demise of virtually all of Philadelphia’s beer producers, the majority of which remained shuttered beyond the repeal of the “Noble Experiment” in 1933. But the enterprising, independent spirit of the originators never left the fabric of Philadelphia’s civic identity, setting the scene for a serious comeback that began gaining steam in the early 1980s.

Throughout the next 20-plus years, innovative craft breweries proudly reclaimed the region’s reputation by brewing some of the country’s best beer.

2SP Brewing Company

The pride of Delaware County, 2SP Brewing Company has some serious (beer) muscles bolstering its operation, including partner-brewmaster Bob Barrar, who guided Iron Hill’s Media location to dozens of national awards before striking out in 2015. It didn’t take long for Barrar and company to continue racking up hardware — The Russian imperial stout has won three Great American Beer Festival gold medals — on a 20-bbl system in Aston. The tucked-away facility is accompanied by a spic-and-span public tasting room pouring more than 20 of their beers like their signature Delco Lager, special releases, and creative small batches aged in wine and whiskey casks. In 2022, 2SP opened a tap house location in Chadds Ford, offering a dog-friendly outdoor patio, a dozen taps, and a menu of fun bar bites like smash burgers, spent grain biscuits and baked pretzels.

Animated Brewing Co.

After years of planning, Animated Brewing Co. opened its doors in March 2020 as the first craft brewery in Coatesville. A small menu of bar food complements lagers and West Coast IPAs, many of which reference the founders’ favorite music or inside jokes. Saturdays bring all-day five-dollar pizza alongside a packed calendar of events like Friday Teacher Appreciation Nights and Wednesday quizzo. In September 2022, Animated christened a second location in Parkesburg, a former 1930s gas station with an eight-tap bar and a lineup of food trucks.

Aristaeus Craft Brewing Company

Pull up an indoor or outdoor seat at Bucks County’s Aristaeus Craft Brewing Co ., an open-concept nanobrewery which features a 12-tap system serving a variety of hand-crafted beers and nitro cold brew coffee, as well as wine, hard seltzers, honey spritzers and a variety of canned cocktails. All of the beers are brewed with water from the Aristaeus well, the brewery’s very own certified and tested public water source.

Artifact Brewing

Opened in 2019, the brewers at Hatboro’s Artifact Brewing have created a relaxed space for craft beer lovers throughout Montco. The brewery’s ambitious lineup covers a wide range of styles, including tasty sasions, pilsners, IPAs and barleywine alongside sporadic bottled releases from the brewery’s limited-edition barrel-aged program. The taproom, built out of a former tire dealership, has expanded into the spot’s parking lot, which allows for ample room to kick back and hang out with food trucks and music (both live acoustic and replays of old Grateful Dead shows). The brewery also operates the new Artifact Brewing Brewpub a few miles up PA 611 in co-owner Ryan McKinney’s hometown of Doylestown inside a former Pennsylvania state store.

Artillery Brewing

After an initial run on a farm at the edge of the Brandywine Battlefield, Artillery Brewing moved into its new “Barracks Taproom” home on the west end of West Chester in 2021. Artillery blends local farm ingredients into many of their recipes as they craft beers across a range of classic styles (“Nothing fad-ish,” they say), with names that play on events relating to the Revolutionary War and its battlefields like The Militia lager, Paoli Massacre session and The Battle of the Clouds IPA to honor the rich 18th-century history of Greater Philadelphia. The brewery plans to produce a beer named for every battlefield between Maine and Georgia, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the preservation of each namesake battlefield museum, park or historical society.

Attic Brewing Company

Beer, environmentalism and social responsibility fuel the team at Attic Brewing Company , the first operational brewery in Germantown in more than a century. The spacious yet cozy brewery, formerly the historic Blaisdell Pencil factory, offers 14 award-winning craft beers on tap, with plenty of hazy IPAs, porters and pilsners available along with wine, cider, cocktail, and spirits both in their family-friendly taproom and dog-friendly outdoor beer garden that features food trucks and live music, comedy and vinyl-spinning DJs.

Bald Birds Brewing Company

At the start of 2017, Joe and Abby Feerrar made a New Year’s resolution to write a craft-beer business plan that would allow them to leave their corporate careers behind. The following year, the couple launched Bald Birds Brewing Company , combining a production brewery with a family- and pet-friendly taproom in Audubon. Bitchin’ Kitten Brewery

Long-time beer aficionado Michael Crosson began by experimenting with homebrewing in his small apartment kitchen, creating his first concoction named “Bitchin’ Kitten,” after his wife Brigitte’s cat Shadow who once accidentally mistook a White Russian for milk (and did not enjoy the experience). Carbon Copy

When Dock Street Brewing exited its iconic West Philly firehouse in spring 2022, it would have been sacrilege for the space to not continue as a friendly craft beverage space. Enter Carbon Copy , Philly’s first combined brewery and winery that reopened the historic firehouse doors in December of 2022 (with Dock Street co-owner Rosemarie Certo’s blessing). New owners Brendon Boudwin and Kyle Wolak, both formerly of Tired Hands Brewing, updated the space with high-tops, bar seating and tables for 50, plus new large windows letting in the daytime sun and large windows into the brewhouse where the duo brew beers onsite. (The vino is produced at Carbon Copy’s proprietary winery in Kensington.) The taproom offers 18 draft lines for beer, wine and craft cocktails, plus a pub menu of shareables, small plates and a half-dozen varieties of thin-crust wood-fired pizza and several vegetarian options.

A pet project of three longtime friends that blossomed into a full-on West Kensington operation, Fermentery Form doesn’t actually brew on-site. Instead, unfermented beer is created elsewhere and brought in to ferment, blend and age … ergo, fermentery. The results are crisp, refreshing beers executed in the style of Belgian lambics and French farmhouse ales that have garnered a cult following among the city beer cognoscenti. But before you head into this back-alley beer spot (which offers three to four drafts and a selection of 750mL bottles), check if the green light outside is illuminated — that indicates the ’by announcement only ” speakeasy is open. When Daniel Endicott and Gerard Olson first opened Forest & Main Brewing Company in 2012, they wanted an opportunity to embody that small town, front porch, idyllic feel. “We believe in simplicity, and letting the yeast shine brightest,” says Endicott, who prefers to brew balanced, lower-ABV styles of Belgian and British origin, including darks and bitters poured on cask. Having outgrown their original 19th-century Victorian facility, the Forest & Main team moved on and up to not one, but two new locations in November of 2022. Great Barn Brewery

Ask Great Barn Brewery founders Steve and Maryana Ferguson what it means to truly drink local and they will tell you all about their farm-crafted beers made from ingredients they grow themselves next door to their Ukrainian-owned brewery in the northernmost point of Bucks County. In June 2020, Hares Hill Brewing teamed up with Pottstown pizza and cheesesteak shop Tony Joe’s House of Great Eats to serve as a physical location for its line of contract craft brews. Human Robot Brewery

Does combining experimental nouveau beers, fascinatingly poured traditional drafts and award-winning sandwiches compute? That’s a question the flesh-and-blood folks at Human Robot Brewery aim to answer at their Kensington brewpub. J.J. Ratigan Brewing Company

The folks behind Pottstown’s J.J. Ratigan Brewing Company aren’t afraid to embrace the past. In the mid-19th century, General William Larimer Jr. set out from Pennsylvania headed west to the Rockies, eventually founding the city of Denver. The intrepid American settler, politician and railroad tycoon’s entrepreneurial spirit inspired the name of Chester’s Larimer Brewhouse (recently renamed from The Larimer Beer Company). Its historic building may date back to the 1800s, but Lost Planet Brewing Company — the brewery now operating inside the site of Royersford’s first firehouse — is brand-spanking new. McCoole’s at the Historic Red Lion Inn

A Quakertown landmark that poured its first ales around 1750, McCoole’s at the Historic Red Lion Inn (formerly McCoole’s Red Lion Brewery) still contains all the vintage markings of the historic inn, down to the colonial period heritage, ghost stories and local celeb clientele ( Lassie creator Eric Knight and his dog were regulars). McKenzie Brew House

The Mangan family, which has owned and operated bars and restaurants in the Philadelphia region since the early 1940s, opened McKenzie Brew House , its first brewery, in Chadds Ford in 2001, naming it for Anna McKenzie, the Irish immigrant family’s late matriarch. In 2022, the restaurant brewery moved its headquarters into an upgraded location along Lancaster Avenue in Malvern, with the original Chadds Ford location having reopened as  The Crown Tavern  in January 2023 (as their Devon location did with Will’s + Bill’s Brewery). Meyers Brewing Company

Brewery founder Mike Meyers (neither the actor nor the masked character) purchased a dilapidated 1880s carriage house in Fishtown, and rehabbed it to expose old brick and ceiling beams — while replacing and building everything else inside — to create the modern farmhouse design for his Meyers Brewing Company . The front of the carriage house boasts an operational 13-foot glass garage door with an aim “to provide a unique and chill atmosphere to enjoy beers,” according to the founder. He named his nanobrewery after Meyers Dairies, which his family operated in nearby Ambler from the 1880s to the 1950s. Head brewer Cortney Costa (formerly of Moss Mill Brewing) fills the spot’s kegs with a variety of styles, including IPAs, pale ales, lagers and milk stouts, some served in dairy bottles as an homage to the family’s dairy past.

At it since 2018, Moss Mill Brewing Company was the brainchild of husband-and-wife owners Nick and Evann Rodgers, who carved their nanobrewery dream out of an unassuming industrial park unit in Lower Southampton Township. The downstairs pub seats a cozy 35 while the upstairs sports bar-like taproom holds 120 (not to mention the curbside beer garden), where Nick (formerly of Yards and Nodding Head breweries) uses his modest one-barrel setup to populate Moss Mill’s taps with as many as 15 brews at a time, like their signature Birds E.A.G.L.E.S. kölsch and Your-Bock maibock ale. One of Philly’s newest breweries, My Local Brew Works opened up inside the Globe Dye Works design and artist incubator space in Frankford in 2022. For a decade, the Bucks County borough of Perkasie was a single-brewery town. But in 2022, the Perkasie craft beer scene on Walnut Street exploded with the opening of two new spots, including Mystic Ways Brewing , opened in August of 2022 by Joe Winiarski, a former master brewer at Red Lion Brewery, and his family. The 3.5-bbl brewery serves IPAs, honey pilsners, stouts in flavors including coffee, chocolate and vanilla and experimental and double dry hopped brews from 10 taps in a bright, vibrant taproom that literally glows from the “live wood”-carved bartop filled with glowing epoxy under original tin ceilings. Naked Brewing Company

Following the classic homebrew-gone-pro trajectory — from brewing in a garage to running an indie brewpub staple — founder Jim Crossland launched the cheekily named Naked Brewing Company in 2012. A union steamfitter by trade, Crossland built out the 4,500-square-foot space from scratch in a Huntingdon Valley industrial park, with most of it dedicated to the seven-and-a-half-bbl brewhouse. Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company

Where else would you locate a brewery called Publication Brew Works than in the basement of a former newspaper publishing house? Open since 2019, Tannery Run Brew Works offers an interior setting equal parts gritty and greenery, with exposed brick and corrugated metal and polish woodwork joining a trellis-like ceiling fixture dressed in vines. Tranquility Brewing Company

Houston, we have no problem. The Fuge in Warminster is the site of the U.S. Navy’s now-decommissioned human centrifuge where space race-era astronauts like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin once trained to experience high gravitational forces. Today, the Johnsville Centrifuge location is surrounded by an unconventional catering and event space (and future museum ) and, as of 2022, a spirited bar-style craft brewery. The space-themed Tranquility Brewing Company serves its own line of beer available on a dozen taps with out-of-this-world names like Fly Me To The Moon American IPA, Helix Nebula brown ale and The Dark Side chocolate stout. Triple Bottom Brewing Co.

Beer and social justice go hand in hand at Triple Bottom Brewing Co. , the first brewery in Pennsylvania to earn Certified B Corporation status (classifying it as a business meeting “high standards” in performance, accountability and transparency). As part of its mission to create a “fair chance” brewery, the Callowhill destination prides itself on creating meaningful, living-wage jobs for employees with diverse perspectives and skills who have been incarcerated, experienced homelessness or have otherwise been left behind. The self-described “brewery with a mission” also walks the green walk with electricity pulled entirely from wind power and trash diverted away from landfills. That mission extends to creating well-crafted brews — dozen-or-so beers including lagers, IPAs and a number of special releases  — served in a homey, comfortable atmosphere alongside a DiBruno Brothers -partnered menu.

Since 2003, the New Hope location of Jersey-born brewpub mini-chain Triumph Brewing Company has offered a rotating lineup of eight draft selections including sensible, balanced and largely traditional ales and lagers, like the year-round Bengal Gold American IPA and KellerPils German pilsner, as well as rotating seasonals. Troubles End Brewing

With a laid-back and chill vibe, Troubles End Brewing is aptly -named. Brought to life in 2020 by three guys behind Philly’s well-known Pistola’s restaurants and former Forest & Main lead brewer Zach Svoboda, the family-friendly seven-bbl Collegeville brewery offers an extensive 25 taps of pale ales, stouts and several saisons, a side-pull draught and plenty of guest slots, plus zero-proof cocktails and wine on tap. The industrial-style tasting room, adorned with reclaimed wood and steel walls, offers views of the exposed brew system and a large stage for live music. Equal parts restaurant and brewery, the wide-ranging American menu lists over 30 items, including brunch favorites and plenty of vegan and vegetarian offerings.

Twisted Gingers Brewing Company

Brewer Mark Mayer — who notably does have red hair — opened neighborhood brewery-taproom Twisted Gingers Brewing Company in a 100-year-old tavern space in the Manayunk -Roxborough area in 2019, serving eight drafts complemented by a selection of scratch pizzas made with a special beer-infused “brewhouse dough.” Staples at the brewery (which features a 34-foot beer can mural at its entrance) include Mayer Light, an easy-drinking blonde ale the brewer concocted to wean his father off macro-label light beers, and The Farmhouse saison, based on the ales served in this same location a century ago. The brewery also offers a kiosk at the Flourtown Farmers Market in Montco.

Van Lieus Brewing Company

The newest addition to the booming craft beer hub of Perkasie in Bucks County is Van Lieus Brewing Company , which opened Halloween weekend 2022. Halfway between Free Will and Mystic Ways Brewing on Walnut Street, the 5-bbl brewery is the creation of father-son founders Jim and Galen Barr, who first started brewing in the basement of their South Jersey farmhouse. The 35-seat tasting room (a former Texaco) serves a variety of brews from their eight taps including rotating selections of New England and West Coast IPAs, ESBs, kölschs, lagers and takes on other British styles plus a nitro tap for Irish stouts and more.

Vault Brewing Company

Housed in the circa-1889 Yardley National Bank, Vault Brewing Company ’s allure comes as much from its speakeasy-in-a-bank-esque design — wrought-iron caging, safety deposit boxes, the original four-ton vault door that opens into the cellar — as its beer. On offer: 10 selections on tap, including session-friendly IPAs, pilsners, wits and a sweet potato ale, along with a kitchen serving a hearty menu of small plates, sandwiches and seven gourmet pizzas straight from their wood-burning oven. VK Brewing Co. & Eatery

Originally planned for Glen Mills, veteran-owned VK Brewing Co. & Eatery shifted gears last minute, opening inside the beautiful and historic circa-1796 Ship Inn building in Exton in late 2022. The brewery opened serving from ten taps including their now-flagship Grand Opening West Coast IPA and Haunted Haze hazy IPA. While the ten-bbl brewery sits next-door in a former horse stable, the taproom and restaurant occupy the first floor of the 18th century stone edifice once patronized by George Washington, Andrew Jackson and even Jackie Kennedy. The restaurant offers burgers, pasta dishes and stone-baked pizzas, along with a (coming soon) raw bar as well as an outdoor patio that seats 40.

von C Brewing Co.

The von Czoernig family team at von C Brewing Co. can claim some serious brewing cred as sixth-generation brewers descended from third-great-grandfather Christian Schmidt who first brought lager yeast to Philly from Germany in the 19th century and founded the iconic Christian Schmidt Brewing Company in Northern Liberties in 1860. Situated among the rolling hills of Bucks County , Warwick Farm Brewing — owned by two fathers and their sons — is literally going back to its roots. Well Crafted Beer Company

In 2018, a quintet of college friends banded together to open Well Crafted Beer Company , a versatile brewpub located in a century-old Lansdale building that once housed a Masonic temple. The massive 5,000-square-foot space is evenly split between a brewhouse and modern-industrial restaurant-taproom, offering a 20-tap bar, a bottle shop and a stage for live entertainment. Brewer Rick Solomon and his team have made more than 180 recipes on their seven-barrel system, including flagship beers Nitro Blonde Americano ale with lactose and coffee conditioned on single-origin coffee from Lansdale’s Backyard Beans, Mother Of Perle kölsch and the fruity, fragrant Hop Monger IPA. The brewery recently expanded to a second location eight miles south at Ambler Yards, serving 13 craft brews on tap along with a regular rotation of food trucks.

Will’s + Bill’s Brewery and Restaurant

Philly brewery community mainstays Will and Bill Mangan closed up the Devon location of their McKenzie Brew House in early 2022 to transform it into a more casual neighborhood brewpub, reopening as brand new concept Will’s + Bill’s Brewery . The laidback Berwyn hangout offers a throwback ski-lodge vibe with seating for 200, two fireplaces and walls covered with portraits of famous Williams. Will’s + Bill’s offers a dozen house beers on tap, live piano music and a diverse upscale pub menu from chef Antonio Bedoya.

Wissahickon Brewing Company

It’s a real family affair at fast-growing Wissahickon Brewing Company , an award-winning production brewery, tasting room and full-service beer garden opened in East Falls in 2017 by the Gill clan, a dad and his sons and daughter who began by homebrewing in their mother’s kitchen. Their selection runs the gamut from IPAs and lagers to pilsners and porters served in a friendly neighborhood taproom with a casual, lived-in feel and a daily lineup of local food trucks. Dogs are welcome into the brewpub space that’s also home to regular community-friendly events, including yoga classes, quizzo, game watch parties and special programming.

Workhorse Brewing Company

Residents of King of Prussia were long an underserved local beer enclave until the opening of Workhorse Brewing Company , the brainchild of co-founder Dan Hershberg, a marketing and business veteran of such diverse stops as ESPN, the Phillies and his own popular Northern Liberties’ Philly Phaithful sports T-shirt shop. In 2016, Hershberg — with zero prior beer experience outside of personal consumption — launched his Workhorse brand to quick and universal acclaim. Within two years, Hershberg, alongside president and head brewer Nate Olewine (formerly of Devils Backbone and Victory Brewing), opened Workhorse’s mammoth KOP 30-bbl Rolec production brewhouse and tasting room. The pair will both tell you their M.O. is rooted in approachability, offering well-made beers that are simply enjoyable to drink and don’t demand any esoteric graduate-level sensory analysis. The result: a line of signature ales and lagers like the Queen of Prussia and Line of Succession session IPAs, as well as limited seasonal beers.

Wrong Crowd Beer Co.

Launched as a nanobrewery in Bryn Mawr in 2017, buddies Dan Shaw and Bob Bagonis soon decided it was time for their Wrong Crowd Beer Co. brewing operation to grow. The pair partnered with restaurant industry vets Kelly McGonagle and Kara Dougherty, opening a new production facility, taproom and scratch kitchen 20 miles away in West Chester in 2020. The taproom features two dozen draft lines from their 15-barrel brewing system, with new selections out every Friday, enjoyed along with a crowd-pleasing menu of wings, sandwiches and a dozen varieties of pizza on housemade dough.

Yards Brewing Company

As the driving force behind one of Philly’s most popular beer brands, Yards Brewing Company president Tom Kehoe (along with co-founder and still-occasional collaborator Jon Bovit) helped ignite the craft beer revolution in Philadelphia, momentum he’s sustained through considerable humanitarian efforts as well as unwavering standards for his brews. Established in a small garage in 1994 — starting with its still-on-tap ESA extra special ale — Yards Brewing’s profile skyrocketed over the next three decades, expanding its headquarters location five times through Manayunk, Roxborough and Kensington before settling into its current 70,000-square-foot site in Northern Liberties in 2018. Tour the oldest independent brewery in texas, by gerald e. mcleod , fri., dec. 24, 2021.

The K. Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner took advantage of 18 months of the pandemic without visitors to revamp their brewery tours. The result is an interesting 45-minute walk through the brewing process and 112-year history of the oldest independent brewery in Texas.

The tour leads up a back staircase into the bowels of the mega-modern complex. On the second floor past the shiny copper tanks, the hallway opens to a wall of windows overlooking the bottling line where every drop of Shiner must pass before it crosses your lips.

From there the tour guide talks her way through a museum dedicated to the Shiner story.

It began in 1909 when a group of Czech and German farmers created the Shiner Brewing Association . Bavaria-born Kosmos Spoetzl had worked in breweries around the world when he arrived in Shiner in 1914. His recipe for Shiner Premium mixed a yeast strain from the old country with local artesian water still used today.

Shiner Bock came later as a Lenten beer available only in the spring. The longhairs at Austin's Armadillo World Headquarters helped introduce the dark lager to the world.

Even with its local success, the brewery went through a succession of owners as they tried to compete against national brands. In 1989, the family-owned, San Antonio-based Gambrinus Company took over the Spoetzl family tradition.

American Lager

A classic, double mashed, American Lager brewed with Riggs-Grown 6 Row Barley and Riggs-Grown Low Oil White Corn. It’s fermented, conditioned, and lagered in our brewery for a full six weeks for an unbeatable smoothness.

ABV: 5.0%, IBU: 17

This German style wheat beer is brewed with Riggs-Grown Wheat. It has a rich banana aroma, but finishes clean, slightly tart, and refreshing. Brewed by a German certified brewmaster who learned his craft in Bavaria, so you know you’re getting the real deal. 

ABV: 5.2%, IBU: 11

Dark German malts are used to create a red color and subtle fruitiness that is unlike any other beer on the market. A healthy dose of American aroma hops accentuate the fruitiness and provide a refined bitterness leaves you ready for another drink.

ABV: 6.0%, IBU: 27

Being big fans of lager fermentations, we used a German Lager yeast in an American IPA recip e to create a truly blank canvas for the finest aroma hop varieties to shine through. Our IPL allows you to experience Citra and Centennial hops to their fullest.

The Details

Schedule This tour runs most Saturdays . The tour is approximately three hours long . Book your tickets using the fancy booking link near the top of the page.

Pickup This tour boards both at 1:15PM at Urbanrest Brewery, Ferndale, and then at 1:50pm at Checker Bar, Detroit .

Refund Policy We’ll gladly refund your tickets in full 14 days prior to the day of the event. After that, there’s no refunds. Sorry to be so mean about it.

FAQ’s

What happens if I miss the bus? Will the bus wait for me if I’m late?

We can’t hold the bus for you if you’re late. Sorry to be so mean about that. There’s a schedule to keep and we want everyone to have a good time.

Can I drink on the bus?

Yes, but with great power comes great responsibility. What we mean is take it easy and don’t wear the proverbial lampshade. This is a 21+ tour only. You’re on a starting and stopping bus. No, you can’t pee on the curb. Also, please only bring things with lids; no open cups. Small coolers only, since the big ones are a safety hazard. And it’s just plain illegal to take any open container on or off the bus. Drink on the bus? Sure. At the bar? Absolutely. But no drinks in the no-man’s-land in between the two. It’s the law, dude.

What about food?

We are hitting some bars that don’t have a whole lot of food options. We recommend, then, that you fuel up ahead of time and/or bring lots of snacks. Drinking and learning is hard work.

Do the breweries take credit cards?

Yes. Each of the breweries take credit cards. 

What if I can’t show up? Will my friend be able to go instead?

Totally. Just let us know ahead of time via [email protected] and we’ll update your tickets with the new name or send them with your printed tickets.

Will you be selling extra seats for the bus?

Nope. Sorry. All passes gotta be bought online. There’s a limited number of seats and we want you to have plenty of room – no roof riders no matter how badass that might sound.

What about weather SNAFUs?

We live in Michigan. Sometimes Mother Nature likes to throw us a curveball. We keep safety as our highest priority. In case of gnarly weather, you’ll receive an email the day of the event with a raincheck/snowcheck date. If you cannot make the rescheduled date, you’ll get a voucher good for a future tour with us.

With every seat you purchase on one of our experiences, we will give a Detroit kid in need of a safe ride to school or after-school program.  Ride for ride .

Baltimore’s love affair with the humble beer gives us a lot to be proud of. This is the birthplace of the beer cap (patented in 1829), the place where beer was first canned (by the American Can Co. in Canton) and, of course, where our beloved Natty Boh got its start, watching us from atop Brewers Hill .

While many of Baltimore’s historic breweries lost their fizz long ago, a new generation of brewers are putting us back on the map. Ready to crack a cold one? Find out where you can taste some of the most exciting modern craft brews in town and take a brewery tour.

Pick up a can of “The Crowler” from this small-batch brewery in South Baltimore.

Checkerspot Brewing Co.

Owned by Judy Neff—a former microbiologist who helped found Baltimore Beer Babes, a craft beer enthusiast group for women—this small-batch brewery in South Baltimore focuses on creating brews in partnership with area farms for super-fresh regional flavors. Checkerspot’s tap room overlooks the brew house, where they make combinations like a kettle sour brewed with all-local ingredients, or a Maryland style Rye Amber made from Chesapeake malting barley. Fittingly, the name comes from the Maryland state butterfly, a nod to the brewer’s appreciation for the outdoors.

Diamondback Brewing Co.

This 6,800-square-foot brewery and 50-seat taproom in Locust Point brews small-batch beer with a focus on ales, lagers and one-off styles. Among its peers, Diamondback proclaims a “slow beer” approach, allowing its crisp lagers to age for more than two months

Enjoy a pizza or pretzel from Diamondback’s kitchen on the patio outside the brewery.

Mobtown Brewing

Fittingly situated in Brewers Hill —the neighborhood where beloved local beer National Bohemian once operated— Mobtown focuses on producing innovative beers that embrace local culture and integrate regional ingredients. Head to the tasting room to sample a mixture of classic milk stouts and hoppy IPAs alongside interesting concoctions like the hard seltzer made from cherry juice and Hibiscus flowers.

Monument City Brewing Co.

Housed inside a former warehouse in Highlandtown ,  Monument City’s 20-barrel brewery offers eight brews on tap, including its signature 51 Rye IPA, a German-Czech pilsner and a malty American Brown Ale, alongside seasonal specialties. Cozy up to the bar to check out the handcrafted wooden tap handles, made from old mash tanks sourced from a historic local distillery.

M8 Beer Co.

Drink like they do down under at M8 (pronounced “mate”) Beer Co ., Baltimore’s only Australian-style brewery.  Located behind M&T Bank Stadium, M8 is the perfect gameday spot, brewing light blonde pale ales and pilsners as well as IPAs and smooth, malt-flavored ales and lagers. Plus, M8’s full kitchen serves a mix of Aussie favorites, such as sausage rolls and pies, and bar staples like wings, burgers and nachos.

M8 is bringing Australian-style brews and fare to Baltimore. Find them behind M&T Bank Stadium!

Peabody Heights Brewery

Situated in Waverly on the site of the former Oriole Park No. 5 from the early 1900s, and home of Baltimore craft staples like Astrodon (a hazy IPA named after the Maryland state dinosaur) and Mr. Trash Wheel’s Lost Python Ale, Peabody Heights Brewery is more than just a place to enjoy delicious craft beer. Peabody Heights takes pride in serving as a hub for community engagement with a packed events calendar, including trivia, comedy and live music.

Union Craft Brewing

Set along the Jones Fall river in Medfield, Union Craft Brewing combines old traditions with new ideas to create its modern riffs on beer. Founded in 2012, the 20-barrel brewhouse moved to a new, larger space as the anchor to Union Collective in 2018, where they host tastings and events alongside food and beverage vendors like Well Crafted Kitchen, The Charmery  and  Vent Coffee Roasters . Head to the tap room to try some of the brewery’s latest creations, which include collaborations with Baltimore-based brands, locally influenced flavors and beer-adjacent offerings like cider. One recent addition: a hoppy, fruity IPA in honor of former Ravens free safety Ed Reed.

Try one of Union’s most popular year-round beers like Anthem or Duckpin.

Wet City Brewing

With a name that references Maryland’s refusal to support federal alcohol restrictions during Prohibition, it’s no surprise that this Mount Vernon brewery offers a colorful selection of beers and sours (literally – Wet City has a purple beer on tap), plus a full cocktail menu. The food is equally impressive; a departure from typical bar food, Wet City’s menu features fun bites like kimchi tots and short rib poutine, as well as sandwiches and burgers.

Guilford Hall Brewery

Located in the historic 1898 factory of Crown Cork & Seal—the engineers of the modern beer bottle cap and cork sealing method—in Station North Arts & Entertainment District , Guilford Hall offers European-style ales and bites inspired by traditional Bavarian recipes. Besides a brewery, Guilford Hall’s spacious property includes a full-service restaurant, intimate beer garden and an event space able to accommodate 200 guests. Can’t stick around? No worries! All of Guilford’s on-tap beers are available to go in one liter bottles.

Guinness Open Gate Brewery

Skip the brand’s ubiquitous Irish stout in favor of one of the experimental beers brewed on-site in Maryland—the first Guinness brewery opened in the U.S. in more than 60 years. Be sure to check out one of the new beverages from their collaboration with CaNe collective, a Black-owned mixers brand and spirits consulting company. Guinness has tapped CaNe collective to make custom mixers to go with its beers, forming one-of-a-kind beverages like the Beer-mosa and Blonde Michelada.

Crack open a Loose Cannon from Baltimore’s largest craft brewery , and you’ll feel like you’re the new mate on board. This triple-hopped IPA is both a fragrant and potent flavor of Baltimore.

Nepenthe Brewing Co.

This award-winning Hampden brewery offers creative brews, from their fruited “Rhythmic Gymnastics” sour to the tropical “Space Jellyfish” IPA.

Suspended Brewing Co.

This brewery is always serving up new creations—all of which are vegan and cruelty-free. The taproom is open Thursday-Saturday, or you can find their beers at popular Baltimore restaurants such as Clavel, La Cuchara and Max’s Taphouse.  Please note Suspended is closed while they relocate to Hampden, but you can still enjoy their beer on tap at the aforementioned restaurants.

Yes, the Tap Room and tour is open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. You must be 21 years of age or older to consume our beer. Root beer is available for visitors under the age of 21.

Our tours are $10 and include four 4 oz. samples of our beer. Reservations can be made in advance. We also leave spots open on all of our guided tours for walk-ins.

We accept credit and debit cards only. No cash or personal checks can be used to pay for tours, beer, or retail items.

Our current tap room & Gift Shop hours are Monday – Sunday 11am – 9pm.

Yes! We have a growler filler with 15-20 of your favorite Abita brews available to fill. We sell Abita growlers onsite, but we’ll be happy to fill your 64 oz. growler. Please be sure to clean your growler prior to arriving!

We have light snacks (chips/pretzels) for sale. On select Saturdays, food trucks visit the brewery. Please check the upcoming schedule. Visitors are also welcome to BYOF (bring your own food) and enjoy at our bar, courtyard, or beer garden.

418 n main street, bel air, md 21014, (410) 937-0108, just tapped, independent brewing company is harford county’s premiere production brewery established in 2015, featuring a large taproom and patio located in the heart of historic downtown bel air, md. independent brewing company is conveniently located at the top of the popular ma and pa trail and is family friendly, bicycle friendly, well-behaved dogs are welcomed outside on our patios, tents, and grassy areas and always leashed. dogs and all other animals are not permitted inside the taproom., independent features 26 rotating taps of small batch artisanal ales and cider, many are brewed with locally grown ingredients from harford county and brewed to be gluten free. we have a daily rotating calendar of local food trucks on premises offering a variety of fresh, seasonal, and local cuisine. we fill 32 oz cans on site and have a variety of 4 and 6 packs to go. ibco offers an array of bottled craft sodas with cane sugar, organic juices, and other non-alcoholic beverages as well - including nitro cold brew coffee, homemade root beer, and kombucha on tap., see you at the brewery.

Guided PRODUCTION Tours

Our production tour offers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look into our brewery. Follow in the footsteps of our brewers through the mill room, hop cooler and brewhouse deck. You’ll also get a look at our fermentation cellars and packaging lines. Includes a welcome beer of your choice and an exclusive souvenir glass!

Each Production Tour guest can look forward to:

• One welcome beer upon arrival
• A  walk through the Art of Tröegs gallery
• One souvenir glass that’s only available to tour guests
• An up-close look at raw ingredients, including malted grain and hops
• 3 samples of Tröegs favorites

Tours are currently offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

$12 per person (21+ only)
