By Judy Shields
Chart-topping Texas Country music artist Jake Bush announced the release of “Somewhere Better To Be.” A genuine purveyor of timeless, boot-scootin” country tunes, perfectly suited for the loyal honky-tonk faithful. Download and stream the new music HERE .
“I knew the second I heard the hook of this song that I was living it. Being newly married and 2.5 years sober, I really spend my time differently off the road. I’d rather be on the couch with my wife & dog instead of in the barroom on a day off. That is my “somewhere better to be,” expressed Jake Bush .
“Somewhere Better To Be” narrates a personal growth and transformation journey, depicted through vivid imagery and nostalgic reminiscence. Reflections of humble beginnings and cherish leisure moments, determined to make the most of what one has. The essence of being carefree and the passage of time to experiencing a newfound sense of urgency and purpose as a relationship reassesses priorities and embraces change.
The U.S. Army Veteran has seen six of his songs rise to number one on the Texas Radio Chart since 2020 while committing to bring listeners nothing but authentic country music as his career progresses.
“I’d put some gas in the truck I’d get the rent paid up I’d have one hell of a time with what I had left I’d get a foot in the door They’d get that first one poured I’d put a pedal to the metal full speed ahead There wasn’t nothing gonna slow me down I wish me then could see me now I was the king of the bar I was a friend of the band I never went too long with an empty can in my hand I shut the neon down ‘round two or three Had some of the best times of my lif Till I had somewhere better to be She’s got me checking my phone She’s got me burning the road up Fast as my truck can get to her place…”
The infectious party song was co-written by Dan Alley, Tim Nichols and Greg Bates with Phil O’Donnell as Music Producer. It was recorded at Omnisound Studios Nashville, with Seth Morton (mixing) Rory Rositas (engineering) and Mastering provided by Mike Cervantes at The Foxboro. A-list session musicians included Troy Lancaster (electric guitar), Shaun Richardson (acoustic guitar), Russ Pahl (steel guitar), Aubrey Haynie (fiddle), Jimmy Carter (bass), Evan Hutchings (drums) and Michael Rojas (keys.)

About Jake Bush
Discover the captivating sound of Nashville recording artist Jake Bush , a true purveyor of traditional, rug-cutting country music. Tailor-made for the dedicated honky-tonk crowd, Jake Bush has emerged as an authentic craftsman of country music, with crowd-pleasing melodies seamlessly blending the nostalgic essence of ‘90s country with the vibrant spirit of modern country. Experience the bold and tastefully simple fusion that defines his music – “Where 90s Meets Now.”
Born in Pasadena, Texas, Jake Bush ’s journey began as the youngest among five siblings. Enduring the loss of his mother at an early age, music became his solace – a refuge where Jake found peace, residency and hope. Growing up, he immersed himself in the soul-stirring melodies played out on GAC and CMT videos of his idols Keith Whitley, Daryle Singletary, Craig Morgan, George Jones, Mark Wills and Tim McGraw, among countless other pioneers of the ‘90s era. After completing high school, Bush joined the United States Army Reserves, serving at Ellington Field in Webster, Texas.
In October 2020, Jake released his first seven-song album, aptly titled 7, amidst the tumultuous backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. The album’s lead single, “Gravity & You,” soared to the top of the Texas Regional Radio Report, fueled by a remarkable 21-week run and securing Bush his first number-one hit in Texas. His second release from 7 , “Better By The Beer,” co-written by Bush , marched up the charts for an impressive 20 weeks, clinching his second consecutive number one on the Texas Regional Radio Report. On February 11, 2022, Jake achieved his third number-one hit with the self-penned “If You Ever Get Lonely,” after an astonishing 32-week journey on the Texas Radio Charts. With three consecutive chart-toppers from a single record, Bush made an indelible mark on the Texas Music Scene – during one the most historically challenging times for musicians.
In February 2022, Bush unveiled his latest album, Where 90s Meets Now, brimming with heart-wrenching, 90s-inspired breakup anthems and captivating cowgirl ballads that have resonated with listeners across the United States and beyond. Jake kick-started its release with the irresistible single “Tractor Town,” igniting dance floors across Texas and propelling the song to the top of the charts after 22 weeks – an impressive feat that marked Bush ’s fourth consecutive number-one. Additionally, “Cowgirl,” another gem from the same record, conquered Texas Radio, climbing the charts for 22 weeks and securing Jake his fifth consecutive #1 smash hit!
Bush ’s commitment to Country music is unwavering – with a tireless and professional work ethic showing no signs of backing down, slowing down or ever entertaining the thought of releasing anything slightly off the path of COUNTRY music.
Currently, Jake is engrossed in writing and recording for his highly-anticipated debut album, collaborating with renowned Nashville producer Phil O’Donnell, also known as Philbilly.
Stay tuned and take comfort knowing the torch is still burning – and Jake is carrying it forward for Traditional Country Music!

Jake Bush: Tour Aspirations, Building a Future for Family, and Writing “Authenticity”
Click here to view the full photo album of Jake Bush performing at the Rhinestone Saloon in February.
I want to start this article with the fact that my favorite song of Jake Bush’s, Cowgirl, has been living rent-free in my head over the past 13 months since it’s been released. About two minutes and forty-three seconds into the recording, I will always sing at the top of my lungs “ All I know is she rode off in that red sky mornin' and left me blue as blue can be ” without a care in the world. I knew I had to meet the artist responsible for this incredible cut.
Fast forward to a cold February Friday night in the Rhinestone Saloon at the Fort Worth Stockyards. While a smaller bar/music venue, it felt comfortable with a great sound system for such an intimate setting. We were lucky enough to catch up with Jake Bush before his performance.
In this interview with Texas Country Tour, Jake Bush shares the story of his journey so far, his goals for the future, and his case for a revival of story-telling in country music.
Answers have been edited for clarity and brevity.
TCT: Can you tell us about yourself?
JB: I'm the youngest of seven. I come from a big family, all boys and one girl.
I started teaching myself music when I was about 14. First, I taught myself how to play guitar. I didn't start really singing out in front of anybody until I was about 16. Then I did a talent show in high school. I graduated high school, joined the Army, and figured out I love singing. In the Army, we’d sing cadence while running drills.
When I got out of the Army, I went straight to the bars to perform. I've been playing music since I was right under 20. I’m going on a decade now. This has been the only job I’ve had since that time.
TCT: What's the best and the worst thing about being on tour?
JB: The drive is probably the worst thing, but there's really not much to complain about.
You know, we get to do this for a living. It just depends. Traveling is probably the best and the worst, you know? We have the opportunity to experience some cool places, but sometimes it's a long drive. You don't get enough sleep.
TCT: Which Texas venue have you not been able to perform at yet, but you're working towards one day?
JB: Billy Bob’s!
I played two songs there with Josh Ward on January 1st of last year. Interestingly enough, he and his band learned one of my songs and I played it there with them. As far as playing and headlining myself, it hasn’t happened yet.
TCT: Do you have any pre-performance rituals?
JB: Tea! I drink hot tea almost every night. I really don't sleep. I try to lie down and take a nap. That usually never happens. My mind is always overthinking with work.
I just drink hot tea and I'll just say a prayer at night before we go play, but that's about it, man. While I’m pretty superstitious, I cannot overthink my performances.
TCT: What does success look like for you professionally?
JB: I just want to leave a legacy for my family, you know? I’d obviously like to make enough money to take care of my family and future generations. I believe success for me is putting out good music that I'm proud of with a group of guys that I'm proud to perform with.
TCT: Can you tell us more about your professional support structure or group of people for your music career?
JB: Man, I have a lot of day-one fans that have really changed the whole course of everything for me. People bless me in different ways: either with financial support or just showing up when we need them. Christian Miranda , my drummer, has been with me for almost five years. I don’t believe I’d be where I am today if it wasn’t for his support.
I have a really supportive family and a group of friends that started out as fans.
All of that is extremely important to me.
TCT: What are you hoping to add to the country music genre?
JB: Authenticity.
I believe there are not enough “real” songs out right now. Back in the nineties, there was a lot of storytelling you could believe. I think that kind of got lost, people started just writing and recording whatever they can. There's really nothing out there that has true substance. I want to write my own songs, release them, and make them believable.
These songs would be about either experiences that I've lived or not so far out of reach that you would believe that I had lived.
Jake is an emerging artist with a friendly demeanor and a passion for bringing authenticity back to country music. He even gives a powerful acoustic performance in the middle of his full band set, highlighting his range capabilities. Thankfully, country music has another protector that will care for and defend authentic storytelling in the genre.

Good Time Machine and Somewhere Better to Be, from Jake Bush
Jake Bush is a renowned Texas artist with 6 songs hitting number 1 on the Texas Radio Chart since 2020. Jake successfully released Gravity and You as his 1st single off his album titled 7 in October 2020, followed by Better By Beer securing his 2nd number 1 hit. Where 90s Meets Now was the 2nd album that dropped a few more hits for Jake in 2022, including Cowgirl .
Jake Bush grew up in Pasadena, Texas as the youngest of 5, and served in the United States Army Reserves after completing high school. He grew up on 90s country and is determined to continue making music dedicated to traditional country music. Jake has kicked off 2024 with Good Time Machine written by Dan Alley, Dan Hutson, and Dan Sheroky. Good Time Machine is a walk down memory lane reminiscing with 90’s country music from Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, and Reba playing on the jukebox.
Jake’s second release is Somewhere Better to Be written by Don Alley, Tim Nichols, and Greg Bates. The song paints a picture that was "too close to my story not to cut the song", explained Jake, newly married and celebrating almost 3 years of sobriety. The lyrics of Somewhere Better to Be highlight the switch from drinking days to sobriety and the shift in importance and priorities.
"I was the king of the bar
I was a friend of the band
I never went too long with an empty can in my hand
I shut the neon down ‘round two or three
Had some of the best times of my life
Till I had somewhere better to be
She’s got me checking my phone
She’s got me burning the road up
Fast as my truck can get to her place…”
Jake Bush started writing songs about sobriety before he was sober or even trying to be and thinks that it helped him with his sobriety. Jake said he gets song ideas from conversations, movie scenes, and random things that most people probably don’t pay attention to. Jake doesn’t stop tweaking songs until they are recorded, that is when he has to be 'completely finished' with them.
There is a plan to release a few more songs with a full album possibly out in the fall. Until then, check Jake Bush's website for tour updates!
Thank you, Jake, for your time and fun conversation, it was nice to meet you, In A Country Minute.

In a recent interview with Rock 100.5 the KATT 's Jake Daniels conducted at this month's Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, Oklahoma, BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale revealed that the first single from "Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023" is called "Nowhere To Go But Everywhere" . "And it really is a song that I wrote for my friends," he explained. "And you'll be able to sing it about you and your friends. It's a weird song. It [has] a power. And so when things like that happen that… So if you get a wistful feeling 'cause [singer-songwriter] Jimmy Buffett died [earlier this month]. I wrote a song that has a wistful feel to it, which I thought was a cool way of making a song to do the greatest hits that encapsulated everything I've done."
In 1994, BUSH delivered its seminal debut, "Sixteen Stone" . It notably achieved a six-times platinum certification, remaining a pillar of modern rock. Rolling Stone cited it among "1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year", while Stereogum exclaimed, "It feels like music untethered from time, separate from its history." The triple-platinum follow-up, "Razorblade Suitcase" , bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and boasted "Swallowed" , which garnered a Grammy Award nomination in the category of "Best Hard Rock Performance".
BUSH 's catalog spans the platinum "The Science Of Things" (1999) through "Black And White Rainbows" (2017) and "The Kingdom" (2020),which includes acclaimed tracks "Flowers On A Grave" and "Bullet Holes" .
BUSH 's latest, ninth full-length offering, "The Art Of Survival" , includes lead single "More Than Machines" , which is the band's seventh No. 1 single at radio. Thus far, they have notched 24 straight Top 40 hits on the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts.
"The Art Of Survival" ranked in the Top 10 for both Hard Music and Alternative Albums as well as the Top 20 for Rock albums radio chart. The LP received praise from Billboard , Stereogum , Consequence , AllMusic (who gave the album a 4/5 star review) and E! News , who said " BUSH …proved once again that they have no plans to slow down."
"More Than Machines" became NFL 's Monday Night Football favorite new anthem for major late game moments, and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" featured a dynamic performance of the song in their live concert series.
Headed back out this winter for LOADED - the greatest hits 1994-2023! The album comes out November 10th. New single this... Posted by Bush on Monday, September 18, 2023
