Elden Ring: What You Need To Know About New Game Plus

Just like most other FromSoftware games, Elden Ring has a New Game Plus feature - here's what you need to know about Journey 2.

One of the few downsides to Elden Ring is that, at some point, the game has to end. It's somewhat sad to say goodbye to your first playthrough - the sense of adventure and exploration in Elden Ring is just unmatched the first time - but becoming Elden Lord doesn't necessarily mean the game is over.

After beating the final boss of Elden Ring players are offered a choice: start Journey 2, also called New Game Plus, or continue in the current iteration of the world. Remaining in the world lets players choose to start their second playthrough at the Roundtable Hold instead, but there are a lot of good reasons to continue into this enhanced version of the base game.

Enemy Health And Damage Is Significantly Boosted

The main difference between a regular playthrough and New Game Plus is in enemy strength. All enemies and bosses in Elden Ring get a buff to their overall Health pool and the amount of damage they can dish out. In New Game +7 even the Godrick Soldier in the tutorial area can take out the player.

In regular New Game Plus enemies are noticeably beefier than before, and each level of New Game Plus after increases Health and damage by a little bit more. Early-game zones will likely feel too easy for you, but that's kind of the point - by the time you've reached Level 150 at the end of the game, you can restart and choose a completely different path to the Erdtree . You only need two Great Runes to get to Leyndell, they don't necessarily have to be Godrick's and Rennala's.

Some Things Carry Over, Like Armaments, Gestures, and Stats...

Though it's technically a restart mechanic, starting Journey 2 in Elden Ring doesn't mean letting go of things you've collected. In fact, the majority of items collected during the first playthrough will stay with you to the second. It's part of the appeal of New Game Plus - it's a chance to experience the game from the start with more options. For example, you can fight Godrick with the Sacred Relic Sword or kill Patches in a single shot with the Jar Cannon.

In addition to all Armaments and Armor collected, New Game Plus lets players keep their collected Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, Gestures, Upgrade Materials, Memory Stones and spells, Stonesword Keys, Talismans, the Flask of Wondrous Physick, Crystal Tears, and Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears carry over. Interestingly, the full unlocked map carries over to New Game Plus, too.

Of course, players also get to keep their Level and stat allocations when moving onto New Game Plus, though you won't be able to respec until Rennala is defeated again.

...But Some Things Don't, Like Great Runes, Prayerbooks, and Medallions

Not everything carries over to New Game Plus, mostly items that count as Key Items or are important for story progression. This means that medallion halves need to be re-collected, the Dung Eater's Seedbed Curses need to be found again, and all Great Runes need to be earned again too. If it's an important item that can be earned in a quest or is tied to unlocking new areas , chances are you can't bring it with you.

This also includes all Keys found in a playthrough, but there's more than just items that don't carry over. Bosses respawn, of course, but additionally all opened doors are closed, all Sites of Lost Grace must be found again, and all quests are reset to their beginning step. Be sure to complete all the NPC quests that are important to you in a single playthrough.

Runes Are Multiplied Differently According To Location

The amount of Runes you earn for defeating enemies is increased across the board in New Game Plus, but there are some things to keep in mind. Depending on the zone, and how far into the game players need to be to access it, Runes earned are multiplied differently.

Because players are so overleveled for Limgrave by the end of a normal playthrough , enemies and bosses in the zone reward about five times the number of Runes. However, in places like the Altus Plateau and Liurnia of the Lakes this increase is reduced to three times. Late-game zones like the Consecrated Snowfield and the Capital of Ash only see a 2x increase in Runes, but this still adds up to a lot when one considers how many Runes these enemies drop normally.

There Are No New Weapons, Enemies, Items, or Bosses In NG+

Unfortunately there are really no other major differences between New Game Plus and a regular playthrough of Elden Ring . Dark Souls required players to go to at least New Game +2 to get all achievements for the game, Dark Souls 2 changed enemy and item placements and added stronger items for players to discover , and Dark Souls 3 made all upgraded versions of rings only accessible in subsequent playthroughs.

All FromSoftware games have had some kind of New Game Plus mechanic, but it would be remiss to say that Elden Ring 's feels a bit lacking compared to other offerings in the past. It's still a worthy experience for all players to take on when looking for more challenge after beating the Elden Beast - but try going for a different ending or using a completely different build to make it more worthwhile.

Sword of the sea takes clear inspiration from thatgamecompany’s 2012 hit.

A lot of watching presentations like the PlayStation Showcase is just thinking a game might be a sequel to a thing you like, and as a Journey fan, Sword of the Sea had me by the throat for a hot minute during the show.

The game comes from Giant Squid Games, the studio behind The Pathless , but its Journey DNA is pretty apparent in its visuals. That’s because Matt Nava, the artist who worked at Journey developer thatgamecompany, is also working on Sword . There are scenes and set pieces in the trailer that look straight up pulled out of Journey , from the glistening desert sand to the way its main character boards across it, if you didn’t see the title card at the end, you’d think this was a Journey sequel. While it’s clearly trying to recapture the 2012 game’s magic, it’s going to have its work cut out for it when it launches later this year.

While Journey was a pretty once-in-a-lifetime video game experience that is hard to recreate, I do commend Sword of the Sea for just really committing to the bit of being legally distinct while clearly drawing inspiration from the original game. What remains to be seen is just how much it will riff on the same ideas of connection Journey leaned into with its seamless, wordless multiplayer experience. The game seems much more interested in letting you do sick tricks on your board, so it’s unclear just how much it will lean into the solemn framing of its inspiration.

Admittedly, I never got around to The Pathless , but now that it’s been brought to my attention just how much Journey is in Giant Squid Games’ work, I’m tempted to go back and give it a second look. At the very least, it will give me something to do until Sword of the Sea launches exclusively on PlayStation 5.

Elden Ring New Game+: What carries over into Journey 2 and beyond

So you’ve beaten Elden Ring. You’ve mended the Elden Ring and began the new age as Elden Lord. Or maybe you got one of the many alternative endings. Either way, your first journey through The Lands Between has come to and end. So on what? New Game+ time!

Elden Ring Journey 2

As any Souls fan will tell you, multiple playthroughs are part of the core FromSoftware experience, and Elden Ring is no different. While this is typically referred to as New Game+, Elden Ring refers to these repeat playthroughs as a new “Journey.”

After beating the final boss in Elden Ring, you’ll be asked if you want to start Journey 2. This is basically new Game+.

You have the option to move ahead into Journey 2 and start from the beginning of the game again, or hold off and continue playing your current playthrough.

If you choose to wait and stay in your current game, you can acquire any Great Runes, weapons or armor you may have missed, defeat any leftover optional bosses, or complete any remaining quest chains. The only thing you can’t do is try for an alternative ending (this can only be done in a new Journey). If you choose to stay in your current Journey, you can visit the Roundtable Hold at any point to begin Journey 2 at any time.

Starting Journey 2: What carries over into New Game+

If you choose to begin Journey 2, you will start the game all over again on a higher difficulty; however, you have the added advantage of some items carrying over with you. When you begin Journey 2, the following will remain with you:

• Your Weapons

Basically, you’re taking your character and all the weapons and items they have and playing the game all over again on a higher difficulty. The only items you can’t bring with you are Great Runes, story-specific keys and items that unlock shortcuts, and Stonesword Keys. All of your Sites of Grace will also reset and will need to be rediscovered.

You’ll notice that enemies will be a bit more tougher in your subsequent playthroughs by they will drop more Runes since you’ll need more to level up. There are a total of seven playthroughs in Elden Ring, so Journey 7 will be your last run.

Since the very start, the game had a very strong community, people that fell in love with the game and playing it all over again. Over the years, they discovered many interesting things and are still playing it. Journey is a very special game, it's best enjoyed "blind", with no knowledge about it before playing it for the first time.

You will be thrown into a scary, yet, wonderful new world, with no idea who you are or what you're doing, besides one singular goal.

Even worse: there is no guidance, no helpful hints to bail you out: you have to find out everything by yourself and make your way through the what seems like an endless desert.

The stunning visuals (best enjoyed on a big screen, played with a controller) and the Grammy nominated soundtrack will do their part to cause a wide variety of emotions.

Beware: Journey is a beautiful game, but it often manages to cause emotions like despair, confusion, fear or sadness too. This is part of the experience.

Journey is all about empathy and respect. Upon meeting a figure like you, you are forced to make decisions. Sometimes, they want to go further or go on an endless exploration. If both are stubborn, they will part ways.

Just like finding a new friend in life, you might walk for a while, lose contact or stay friends until the very end. You will enjoy the time spent together and probably respect each others flaws.

Journey is also a game about sand, cloth, and various creatures you meet on the way.

The more you play Journey you will discover slight differences or see things, that seem new. It may be hard to describe, but here are some expressions from longterm fans of Journey :

Elden Ring New Game Plus explained: How to begin Journey 2 and what carries over

New Game Plus is back in Elden Ring, letting you begin another journey into The Lands Between. Here's how it works.

New Game Plus in Elden Ring continues the FromSoftware and Soulsborne tradition, giving you a chance to take a different path and uncover secrets you might have missed the first time around. This game might be absolutely massive, but the end of your journey is ultimately just the beginning - as like the ring, you can continue forever, in an endless, circular cycle... if you wish.

In each of the games that make up this connected-but-not Soulsborne universe, New Game Plus has always taken a slightly different form. It’s quite simple in Elden Ring, but it’s going to be interesting to see what people discover as they begin to explore their second, third, or further journeys into The Lands Between.

A couple of us have completed the game, however - so here’s what we’ve learned about Elden Ring's NG+ so far…

How does Elden Ring’s New Game Plus work?

In Elden Ring, each game is known as a ‘journey’ , which means rather than being called ‘New Game Plus’ , the act of starting over is referred to as starting ‘Journey 2’.

As you’d expect, New Game Plus unlocks once you defeat the final bosses and reach one of the Elden Ring endings - of which there appear to be three major versions, with different permutations of each. At that point, you’ll be asked if you want to Begin Journey 2 right away.

If you choose to, New Game Plus kicks off right away. If you don’t, you’ll be returned to Roundtable Hold in an end-game state.

The world will be as it was right before you entered the final boss chambers. You can go off into the open world and do anything you want at this stage. You can visit dungeons, defeat optional bosses, and even take on any NPC side quests still available that late in the game. Anything you do will help contribute to your Journey 2 starting state. You can use this state to upgrade weapons and spirit ashes, level up, acquire armor and other gear, complete dungeons, and find new in-game locations.

One thing you can’t do in this state is repeat the game’s final battles and/or pursue a different ending - the path to the end of the game will be locked off permanently in that journey once you’ve seen one ending. The only way to take a different path is to Begin Journey 2, aka New Game Plus, and pursue your preferred storyline there.

To do that, just head to Roundtable Hold and rest at the Table of Lost Grace in the middle of the Hold’s central chamber. As you know, this functions as a standard Site of Grace, but after you’ve defeated the final boss, you can head here to trigger New Game Plus at any time with the Begin Journey 2 button that appears there.

That option is only at this specific site of grace, and is designed solely to boot you into New Game Plus. Once you hit that button, there's no going back - your game will be reset. You do carry a bunch of stuff over, though.

What carries over to New Game Plus in Elden Ring

Once you start New Game Plus, you’ll be placed into the world of Elden Ring anew. Enemies will be powered up, and give more Runes as a result. Basically, it’s the same game, turned up to eleven.

Some older Souls games made more changes - if that's the case here remains to be seen, but it doesn't appear there's any deep secrets left to be found in New Game Plus, at least in Elden Ring's launch state - it's just a chance to replay the story, tackle different quests, and get a different ending.

Heading into Journey 2 you’ll keep your level, gear (including ashes, weapons , sorceries & incantations , notes, cookbooks, memory stones, etcetera), consumable items, Flask power and uses, access to Torrent , and so on - so you’ll go into the play-through fully powered up.

In fact, the only major things you’ll lose will be Sites of Grace (which must be discovered again), Great Runes, and any keys or key items that might allow you to skip ahead and break progression. Doors opened by Stonesword Keys are also reset and closed again.

At that point, you’re set free in the world again to conquer The Lands Between once again. Same game… but different. But still same.

Incredible game, 1 issue with iOS port

The first time I played Dune on PS4 was very recently, and I honestly had a spiritual experience, a first for me with a video game. The visuals and gameplay are so simplistic but even without any writing or dialogue they tell a very moving story, with a dreamlike sense of sacredness and a deep touch of humanity on a desolate alien world. The multiplayer aspect of the game is what really binds you to the experience, in my opinion. On this iOS version, you’ll find the multiplayer experience is lacking. I’m not sure why, but you simply can’t find another player to travel with you for the entire length of the journey. It may just be that because this is a mobile platform, people are swiping the app off in the middle of things, although I can’t see this being a “pick up, play, put down” kind of game, so I’m guessing it’s a connectivity issue. This is an older game with kind of a niche following so I can see why, with “Sky: Children of Light” doing so well now, Journey is a low priority, or maybe there is some issue that makes multiplayer of this kind harder on iOS for reasons I wouldn’t understand as a layperson. Journey gets 5 stars for PlayStation, and I could easily say 10/5 stars, but 4 stars from me for iOS because you typically lose the companionship aspect of the gameplay.

Truly Fun and Emotionally Powerful

A really enjoyable game. There can be so much toxic behavior in the gaming world sometimes, but this isn’t that kind of game. I feel lonely very often, and don’t often see friends or socialize; I didn’t know this game had multiplayer when I started playing it, and had played through it maybe six times alone, so I was quite shocked when I ran into someone. See, I have a disability; I cannot feel my hands, and the muscles in my fingers don’t work, but the player I ran into patiently helped me and stayed with me even though I am very clumsy, and repeatedly fell off of a tall structure at one point. We had to start over many times because of me before we succeeded, and it would be very understandable if it was frustrating for them, since they wouldn’t know why I was struggling with certain things that would probably have been much easier if my hands worked, and yet they still played through that part with me. After reading more about it, I know this game’s designers intended for their to be an emotional connection bond/connection formed between anonymous players who run into each other, and that the lack of text or speech comms is meant to add to that, and for me, that was an incredibly powerful experience. Also, it’s pretty cool that if I can play this game on iOS, then it is probably pretty accessible for other players with motor disabilities that affect their hands.

The PlayStation 4's Play At Home initiative is meant to encourage people to stay at home with free games, including developer thatgamecompany's beautiful Journey . The unique, emotional game earned praise for its art-worthy visuals and award-nominated soundtrack, but one of its most notable features is its seamless, wordless multiplayer. Without text or voice chat, though, it can be hard to tell if Journey' s other player companions are real people or A.I. fakes.

Along with Journey , the Play At Home program includes Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in an effort to keep players busy and entertained while practicing COVID-19 social distancing. Both games are free to download and keep for all PS4 owners - regardless of their PlayStation Plus subscription status - if secured before May 5. The Uncharted games are single-player, which has its own appeal during social distancing and self-quarantines, but part of what makes video games appealing in the current pandemic is their ability to connect people separated by physical space.

Journey' s multiplayer does just that, but it does so in a way few other games have. Multiplayer is seamlessly integrated, with players simply happening upon each other in the game world, and players have only simple chirps to signal to one other. Journey has no chat system of any kind, and it doesn't even have an emote system to allow for more complicated silent communication, leaving some players wondering if they're actually playing alongside real human beings.

Is Journey's Other Player A Real Person Or An A.I. Companion?

PlayStation's online ecosystem is part of what makes Journey' s multiplayer functionality so vague. Normally, multiplayer gameplay requires a PlayStation Plus subscription , but Journey players run into other player characters even if they're not paying PS Plus members. While this may appear to indicate these other characters are just A.I. facsimiles, it seems Journey' s co-op just doesn't require a PS Plus subscription. According to the game's store page, its online features "require an account," but there's no mention of PS Plus, so this seems to refer simply to a basic PlayStation Network account. Descriptions for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , on the other hand, include phrases like "requires PlayStation®Plus membership to access online multiplayer," while Journey does not.

Of course, it's entirely possible that A.I. companions could be substituting for real ones when players' online connections drop, as some Journey -playing forum users have conspiracy-theorized. But there's an easy way to prove this false: At the end of a Journey playthrough, the game tells players the usernames of the others they met along the way. These are real accounts that users can message and send friend requests to, and it's highly unlikely thatgamecompany created fake accounts just to sell an illusion. In fact, it seems that if players lose connection or otherwise don't have internet access while playing, they'll simply go through the game alone, further proving the legitimacy of this must-play PS4 game's multiplayer .

Galvanize your Legend in Season 4: Loot Reborn

The forges burn with renewed vigor, stoked by braziers to hone the steel of Sanctuary’s finest. Across the land, Hell’s expanded Legions gather and multiply, marshalling their strength to ambush wanderers that fall prey to their Helltide.

Fresh from our first Public Test Realm in Diablo IV, Season 4: Loot Reborn begins on May 14 at 10 a.m. PT . Use the Itemization overhaul on new systems, Tempering and Masterworking to change a noteworthy blade into a force to be feared. Across all World Tiers, Helltide is reborn: slay monstrosities to fill your threat meter, marking you as prey for the Hellborne . Prepare to fight side by side with the Iron Wolves —a seasoned mercenary company of brethren aiming to quell the demons.

Itemization Reforged: Masterworking, Tempering and More

Helltide reborn, andariel joins the fray & tormented echoes, your greatest challenge: the pit of artificers, fight with the iron wolves, earn rewards with the season journey and battle pass, acquire fabled threads from tejal’s shop, community guides for season 4, stay up to date with diablo iv news.

Seasons within Diablo IV bear their mark on Sanctuary in the Seasonal Realm, unearthing new quests and fresh mechanics to explore and master. Season 4: Loot Reborn takes on a new theme, overhauling many core game systems to refresh how items are earned, how they function, and how they improve as you level through World Tiers during the season.

Unlike previous Seasonal themes that affect only the Seasonal Realm, with Season 4: Loot Reborn, these Itemization changes persist beyond the Seasonal Realm and affect the Eternal Realm as well. Read on to learn how Itemization will change the way you loot and reap your way across all of Diablo IV.

All updates to our new items, Classes and Skills will be available in our Season 4 Patch Notes, which will be available here following our Developer Update stream on May 2.

General Item Updates

One of our several goals for the Itemization changes is to make it easier to understand which items are upgrades when they drop. We reduced the number of affixes on items (down to 3 on Legendary items, 2 on Rare items) and made these affixes more effective. Instead of seeing an affix that relies on conditional values (+10% damage on non-injured Elites), you'll see affixes such as base increases to your Movement Speed, Max life, or single ranks of a Core Skill. Dropped Items are now simpler to evaluate, and we've moved their complexity and customization to our new crafting systems, Tempering and Masterworking, which we will describe in more detail below. We've also increased the overall values of these affixes, so they should feel more powerful!

By making items more individually impactful, we’ve significantly decreased the number of items that drop when slaying Monsters. The goal here is to spend more time obliterating and less time sorting through the many items that drop. The result is that fewer items will drop overall, but those items will be more likely to be valuable. To compensate and stay on par with the norm, materials gained from Salvaging and Crafting have been adjusted to match this change. Also, Forgotten Souls can now be earned from Whisper bounties and are a rare drop from all Elites. The Gold cost to re-roll items when Enchanting now has a maximum, and we’ve cut down on the materials needed to perform all activities when at the Blacksmith.

Additionally, which World Tier you play in will directly affect the rarity of the items you earn. Sacred items or higher only drop in World Tier III, and only Ancestral items will appear in World Tier IV. Similarly, Legendary items dropped from enemies over Level 95 will always have a value of 925 Item Power.

However, keep an eye out for Uniques—some have a chance to appear starting in World Tier I and II. All Uniques have a chance to drop starting in World Tier III, and Uber Uniques can start appearing as once you’re killing monsters that are Level 55 at max Item Power level.

Codex of Power Updates

Salvaging Legendary items stores their powers as Legendary Aspects in your Codex of Power to be reused indefinitely. You can upgrade your Legendary Aspects by salvaging legendary items of higher power value at the Blacksmith. Instead of taking up space in your inventory, any legacy Aspect items you may possess will automatically be converted into appropriate upgrades in your Codex of Power when you first log in after Season 4 begins.

The Codex of Power displays all available Aspects, so you can spend more time seeking the highest Aspect rolls possible. Once you have upgraded an Aspect to its maximum potential value, a specific border indicates the Aspect has been completed.

Aspects can now be searched, filtered, and favorited within the Codex of Power. When selecting a power for imprinting at the Occultist, an icon and a tooltip will denote which powers you already have equipped. Note that in the Seasonal Realm, when the Season ends, your Codex of Power will be transferred to the Eternal Realm. If you already have the same Aspect learned in the Eternal Realm, the Codex of Power will keep the higher value of the two.

Tempering: Sharpen your Steel and make it Sing

As you find and learn Tempering Manuals, Blacksmiths across Sanctuary will be able to use these manuals of craftsmanship to shape the qualities of your equipment. Tempering allows you to add potent affixes to your item.

Crafting Manuals can be found as a regular item throughout the game. Once learned, they can be used as many times as desired (like the new Codex of Power changes). Each Crafting Manual contains a small number of affixes, and typically correspond to six different categories: Weapons, Offensive, Defensive, Mobility, Utility and Resource. Simply head to a Blacksmith to Temper your item and add one of the available affixes, greatly reducing the time it takes to ensure your weapon has the affix you desire. Note that Ancestral items can have two Tempered affixes from different categories!

Remember, the Tempering Durability indicates how many times you can Temper an item…even the most battle honed blades can lose their edge. The manuals you learn on the Seasonal Realm last until the end of the season, and manuals learned on the Eternal Realm will be known permanently.

Masterworking: Refine your Weapon to Untold Prowess

Using the rarest of materials found within the deepest mines and caverns, improve your weapons to the absolute pinnacle of their potential. Masterworking is an end-game crafting system, using materials earned from The Pit of Artificers to upgrade your weapons.

Masterworking improves the overall strength of all affixes on your weapon, and at every 4th tier, massively upgrades one of your equipped affixes. The affix that receives the bonus will turn Blue. If the same affix is improved again, it will change to Yellow, and in rare cases, it will turn Orange if improved a third time.

If you hit the max level of Masterworking on a given weapon and you’re unsatisfied with the improvements on your weapon, you can reset and begin the process again.

Greater Affixes

Appearing only on Ancestral Legendary and Unique Items, Greater Affixes are 1.5x more powerful versions of normal affixes. Items with Greater Affixes drop with a distinct audio cue, alerting you to their presence, and have a unique icon both in the world and within your inventory. Each affix on an item has a chance to be a Greater Affix in World Tier III and IV. You cannot Enchant an affix into a Greater Affix—their awesome power may only be discovered.

Gems are simpler, streamlined and more effective across your Character’s journey. Crude Gems have been removed, and crafting levels have been shifted back. Normals Gems are available at Level 51, Flawless at 71, and Royal at 91. Diamonds have had their All Resistance values increased. Topaz now provide increases to Intelligence, and Sapphires increases to Willpower. Amethyst increases your Strength, and Emeralds now provide bonus Dexterity.

The legions of the Burning Hells regroup to coordinate a most formidable display of force in a Helltide reborn. Inspired by the Vampiric Blood Harvest in Season of Blood, your ferocity in combat draws the attention of increasingly dangerous foes. Only the strongest and most well-prepared can survive this potent onslaught. Unless otherwise noted, these Helltide changes affect both Eternal and Seasonal realms and persist beyond the end of Season 4: Loot Reborn.

Threat Levels and Becoming Hell-Marked

As you cleave your way through Helltide, you will now generate Threat. Threat is earned based on the difficulty of the monsters you slay and how often you’re opening Tortured Gifts within Helltide. There are three Threat Levels in total, with each level increasing the danger and frequency of ambushes. Once you hit Level 3, you will become Hell-Marked.

When you’ve been Hell-Marked, you’ll be besieged by a frenzy of densely packed monsters. If you make it out alive, a Hellborn will come for you: one of Sanctuary’s most formidable fallen warriors, now an immensely powerful agent of Hell. The Hellborn can embody one of the classes in Diablo IV. Your Threat Level resets once the Hellborn ambush has been activated, or if you succumb to the overwhelming forces of Hell and perish.

Unholy Blasphemy: Accursed Ritual

At a scene of shocking gore, the Accursed Ritual is the ultimate testament to the disturbing lengths these manic Cultists will go to appease their dark desires. It is here where you can begin the Accursed Ritual.

Baneful Hearts can be earned by opening Tortured Gifts throughout Helltide and by defeating Hellborn enemies. Deposit three Baneful Hearts to begin the ritual, which will commence with a swarm of demonic enemies. This ambush will end with the arrival of the formidable Blood Maiden, an immensely powerful demon who offers great reward upon her death.

Contributing any Baneful Hearts to initiate this dark ritual will grant you increased rewards as a contribution bonus.

Helltides in World Tier I and II

To get your feet warmed up to the awesome threat of Helltide earlier on in your character’s journey, Helltide is now available in World Tier I and II. The overall Monster density will be suited relative to these World Tiers, and no roaming bosses will be present.

Additional Hellish Changes

For the wanderer that want to push the limits of Helltide, an exceptionally valuable new elixir called Profane Mindcage is available to up the ante. Consuming a Profane Mindcage increases the level of Helltide Monsters by 10 and boosts Cinder drop rates. These are a guaranteed drop after killing Hellborne. You will see diminishing returns on boosted Monster levels closer to level cap—keep progressing in World Tiers to retain the same benefit from this potent elixir. The Profane Mindcage will only last until the end of Season 4: Loot Reborn.

Fresh demonic events have been added to Helltide, including new encounters with the fabled Iron Wolves. Stay vigilant for these encounters of demonic treachery.

As a recent change since our Public Test Realm for Season 4: Loot Reborn, Doomsayers no longer drop Chests of Doomsaying. Instead, they now drop the equivalent rewards that a Chest of Doomsaying would have granted on death—entirely removing the Cinder cost it previously held.

There are rumors that there are strange varieties of ore deep within the network of dungeons crisscrossing the north of Sanctuary, perfect for crafting exceptionally-made armor using secret Horadric techniques. However, the horrors that lay in wait for intrepid wanderers seeking to unearth these riches are unspeakably terrible.

Upon entering World Tier IV, you’ll receive a priority Quest to complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon. Upon completion, you’ll begin to collect Runeshards by playing through different Endgame activities. They’ll appear when you encounter Helltide Chests, World Bosses, Legion Events, Nightmare Dungeons and Whisper Bounties.

Collect Runeshard to activate the Obelisk in Cerrigar, allowing you to descend into the beckoning depths of The Pit. Your task is to slay enough monsters before your 10-minute time limit runs out to summon a final boss. Each player death removes time from the clock: first death removes 30 seconds, second death removes 60 seconds, third and subsequent deaths will remove 90 seconds.

After enough monsters are slain, a portal materializes, transporting you to the boss’s arena. Slay the boss before the timer expires to earn coveted Masterworking materials… and the next brutal tier of The Pit. If you can manage to kill the boss with time left on the clock, the benefit increases. With 4-6 minutes to spare, you skip a level and unlock an additional Tier of the Pit. Killing the boss with 6 or more minutes to spare grants you two additional Tier unlocks. The Pit has 200 total levels of difficulty to try and conquer, if you dare face the challenge.

The Pit can be entered in groups of up to four players, with the player who spends the Runeshards to open the Pit earning the lion’s share of materials. Only the player who opened The Pit has the chance to receive tantalizing Stygian Stones used for summoning Tormented Echoes—Level 200 variants of the summonable bosses found in Diablo IV. The further you descend into levels of The Pit, the more frequent these Stygian Stones will appear.

The Maiden of Anguish has returned in all her tormented glory. She joins the boss ladder at the same tier as her brother Duriel, with the same Uber Unique drop rate. With a mix of Shadow, Fire, Lightning, and her iconic Poison attack, Andariel stands ready to face all who dare fathom to bring about her demise.

Found east of Tasarak, in Hanged Man’s Hall, you’ll need summoning materials from both Lord Zir and Beast in Ice to fight Andariel.

Tormented Echoes

All summonable bosses are now available at Level 200 as Tormented Echoes. Summonable with their regular summon Materials alongside Stygian Stones—which can be found deep within The Pit—these bosses cost more to summon but drop far more rewards. To summon a Tormented Echo, simply go to their typical summon location and select the Tormented Echo variant. Note that to summon the Beast in Ice, you’ll need to craft a different Nightmare Dungeon Sigil.

All items dropped from Tormented Echoes will be Item Level 925. Defeating your first Tormented Echo drops one Resplendent Spark as a first-time reward (account bound).

Seek out the battle-hardened and stalwart Soudeh the Anvil, a stoic field commander of the Iron Wolves. The Iron Wolves are a band of noble Mercenaries in the South, seeking to protect the common people of Sanctuary and hold themselves to a higher code of honor than other mercenary companies of similar mettle. Mysteriously, members of their ranks have been dying under suspicious circumstances—seek out the source of this slaughter to earn the Iron Wolves’ favor.

Meet Soudeh in Khejistan to start your journey to uncover this deadly plot. Working with the Iron Wolves will earn you several Tempering Manuals, which are key to unlocking the potential of your items in Season 4: Loot Reborn.

Any Iron Wolf Events that occur in Helltide will persist past the end of Season 4: Loot Reborn.

As you fight side by side to vanquish demons with the Iron Wolves, you’ll earn rewards from the Season Journey and Battle Pass.

The Season Journey is broken into Chapters with tasks to complete. As you progress through the Journey, you’ll earn rewards befitting Sanctuary’s defenders, such as new Legendary Aspects, and 3 Scrolls of Amnesia, which provide a free Skill Tree and Paragon Board reset. The Journey also provides Favor—the resource used to climb through the Battle Pass’ Tiers— also earnable simply by playing aspects of the game.

The Season 4: Loot Reborn Battle Pass begins on May 14, 10 a.m. PT and hosts 90 Reward Tiers (28 Free Tiers and 62 Premium Tiers).

If you get the Premium Battle Pass , not only will the rewards of the Free Tiers be yours to wield, but Awoken Demigod Armor Sets , Platinum, and more also await you, including the Awoken Demigod Plating Mount Armor , Purified Demigod Thoroughbred Mount , and Divine Banner Mount Trophy , which unlocks at Tier 90 .

The Accelerated Seasonal Battle Pass also contains 20 Tier Skips and the Wings of Hell’s Legion Emote.

Smoldering Ashes earned from the Free Tiers can be spent on Season Blessings that provide helpful bonuses to beat back Hell’s armies. There are three new Blessings for Season 4: Loot Reborn:

• Urn of Nightmares: Boost Paragon Glyph XP earned in Nightmare Dungeons.
• Urn of Iron: Boost your reputation with the Iron Wolves from Helltide activities.
• Urn of Burning Obols: Boost the amount of Obols you can find in Helltide chests, which contain Obols during this season.

The bonuses gained from the five Season Blessings only last until the end of Season 4: Loot Reborn.

We’re dialing up the heat in the Shop with new Equipment, Armor, Accessories, Mount and Mount Armor bundles that will have you slaying in style. Starting on May 14, pay Tejal a visit to browse her wares—remember to check back often, as she’ll update her stock throughout Season 4: Loot Reborn. One such rarefied find from the far reaches of Sanctuary is the the Demon’s Heart Bundle for the barbarian, which contains the Demonheart Armor Set and 2 Demonheart Weapon Cosmetics.

Celtics’ Luke Kornet Draws Praise From 2-Time All-Star Center

B oston’s break-the-glass-in-case-of-emergency-center Luke Kornet seized the opportunity like he used to do all season during the Celtics‘ 120-95 blowout victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

With Kristaps Porzingis still on the shelf with a calf injury, Kornet played meaningful minutes off the bench for the Celtics.

The 7-foot-1 gangling center pulled down 10 rebounds while adding 4 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks in 21 minutes off the bench.

Kornet has quietly developed into one of the underrated backup bigs in the NBA today. He has put together his best season with the Celtics, averaging a career-high 4.1 rebounds with 5.3 points, 1.1 assists and 1.o blocks. His development has not gone unnoticed.

Former two-time NBA All-Star center Roy Hibbert used Kornet as a case study for an under-the-radar big men prospect, who dreams of carving a path to the pros, such as Richmond’s 7-foot-center Neil Quinn.

“He asked me, like, ‘Do you think that I can get to do things in the NBA?'” Hibbert said in an interview with The Celtics Chronicle’s Adam Taylor.

Hibbert, who called Quinn’s game twice as a college basketball analyst for CBS Sports, pointed to Kornet’s fundamentally sound game as something he could emulate.

“I sent him film of Luke Kornet,” Hibbert said. “Just saying, like, literally, you run, you set screens, you have good hands. You know, you move your feet, you can play in this league. This guy is like 6’10, 6’11 kind of athletic, and Kornet can catch lobs and everything like that. [Quinn’s] very physically gifted, but I feel like there is a path to the NBA.”

Luke Kornets’ NBA Journey

Tuesday’s game was a surreal moment for Kornet as the 19,156 TD Garden crowd serenaded him, chanting his name.

“It was cool,” Kornet told The Athletic. “I haven’t really had that since college, where they’d do that a little bit.”

A skinny white American big man is a rare specie in today’s NBA. But Kornet has persevered to carve his path to the NBA after a four-year collegiate career at Vanderbilt.

But even after averaging a career-high 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds and All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive team honors in his final year with the Commodores, Kornet went undrafted in 2017.

Finding Home in Boston

Kornet did not give up on his NBA dream.

He worked his way up from the New York Knicks’ Summer League team that year to a two-way contract until he earned a standard contract. Thus began his journeyman career in the NBA with stops at Chicago, Boston, Cleveland, Milwaukee and return to Boston via its G-League affiliate Maine Celtics in 2022.

Kornet was in street clothes when the Celtics came two wins away from winning an NBA title in the 2022 NBA Finals. He is hoping he would be on the floor the next time Celtics play for the championship again, which appears likely this season.

“It’s definitely nice to be able to come into the game and make a contribution early on,” Kornet told The Athletic. “That’s something I’d like to be able to do going forward, just to be able to do my job.”

Hibbert hopes Kornet’s journey would serve as an inspiration for players like Quinn.
